焼肉家族@下北沢 ‪____________________________________ いやいや、まさかのご本人がカレーを作ってました🤘 何年ぶりの再会だろう。

𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘆 | Burmese restaurant @lahpet in Bethnal Green have launched a range of meal kits to make at home, and also pantry items to purchase. There’s 3 kits available; 👉🏻Coconut noodles with chicken. Photo 1. 👉🏻Ginger salad. Photo 2. 👉🏻Tea leaf salad. Firstly, for someone who would eat a salad once in a blue moon, I LOVED this. I honestly couldn’t get enough of it. Pickled ginger, fresh shallots, red chillies, garlic, it definitely packs a punch behind it. But the coconut noodles with chicken, I’m still thinking about them 3 days later. Again, this is a dish that I wouldn’t have too often at all, but it was AMAZING. As soon as you start to cook that coconut cream the smell just fills your kitchen and it smells beautiful. Lahpet also sent me some pantry items, such as Shan tofu, chilli jam, and tamarind sauce, and there’s more available. Note; the meal kits do require you to buy a couple of ingredients. Please check out what @lahpet have to offer, and go for the coconut noodles and ginger salad, you won’t be disappointed. . . . . . #burmesefood #burmese #burma #noodles #coconutchicken #chickennoodles #chickennoodlesoup #gingersalad #mealkit #mealkits #homecooking #bethnalgreen #eastlondon #foodie #londonfoodie #foodblogger #londonfoodblogger #londonfoodblog #londonlife #londondining #londonrestaurant #londonrestaurants #londoneats #londonfood #londonfoodguide #foodgram #noodlesoup #noodle #noodlelover (at Lahpet) https://www.instagram.com/p/CA4uGpFHroC/?igshid=r2rrsursspek

Hte Da Win, Hser Ku, and Naw Doh will be cooking these ginger, turmeric, and taro leaves from our farm for their harvest celebration at @novickurbanfarm on Saturday. We met this morning and they told me about their lives beginning in Burma, escaping through the jungles to find refuge in Thailand, and eventually finding home here in Philadelphia, each time bringing soil with prayers to stay in their new homes a long time. They are grateful to have places here to continue growing the foods that taste like home: peppers, eggplants, spilanthes, pumpkin leaf, ginger, and so on. They provide several varieties of their favorite seeds through Truelove Seeds, and we visit each other’s farms and share and learn from each other regularly. Thank you to @adamforbes29 for the initial connection! #gingerleaves #turmericleaves #taroleaves #burmesefood https://www.instagram.com/p/B4TO6V9gJcf/?igshid=ngyuwl3htply

HIRO TOKYO(レトルト)@自宅 ‪____________________________________ ミャンマーチキンカレー *チェッターヒン いただくのは2回目。

One of my #supportlocalbusiness adventures 🥰🥰 This place is very much new to me - besides the fact that it's a new restaurant, I've never had Burmese cuisine 🐷🐷 As a person who loves trying new things, especially food, eating here was a no-brainer 😆😆 I ordered the Mohinga (noodles) and Burmese fried chicken - they both tasted very good 😚😚 The place is clean with decent lighting, good for date night, in case you're thinking about it *wink* *wink* 😊😊 I look forward to my next visit - there are so many more to try, it's too bad this place only opens for dinner 🍽🍽 🍗🍗 🍜 🍗🍗 The flavours are very interesting 🐽🐽 My palate is tingling just thinking about the food 👻👻 It has definitely put Burmese dishes on my mind - hopefully they'll put other traditional Burmese nom-noms on the menu 👌🏻👌🏻 🍜🍜 🍗 🍜🍜 #wellingtonnz #burmesefood #mohinga #friedchicken #wellingtonfood #wellingtonfoodie #noodleslover #friedchickenfriday #foodphotography #foodporn #foodstagram #foodblogger #foodblog #eatlocal #eattheworld (at Wellington, New Zealand) https://www.instagram.com/p/CY3HjmBPi7D/?utm_medium=tumblr

Lahpet
Tumblr media
A place that had been on my list of places to try for a while now is Lahpet.  At one point, I thought I might just wait until they open their new restaurant in Covent Garden but in the end, I couldn’t wait and decided to go try the original restaurant in Shoreditch.
Tumblr media
For our starters, we had a bit of a selection and the first things we tried was this platter of fritters.  The 3 different types were Mandalay (kidney bean and ginger), Shan Tofu and split pea.  I really liked the split pea and the tofu but I thought the ginger in the Mandalay was just a little overpowering.
Tumblr media
This was the ginger salad.  The ginger in this was pickled so wasn’t quite as gingery as what was in the mandalay.  As you can see, there was also a bunch of other stuff including refried beans, tomatoes, cabbage and peanuts.  My favourite bit of this was the peanuts as they were really crunchy and fragrant.
Tumblr media
The pickled tea leaf salad.  I wasn’t quite sure what to expect from this but was very pleasantly surprised.  It was a very big portion but it was very more-ish.  There were quite a few similar flavours (and ingredients) to the ginger salad but I felt that this was a bit more savoury, maybe from the dried shrimp.  I can see why this is a bit of a signature dish at Lahpet.
Tumblr media
Our last starter was this paratha with a yellow pea filling.  The paratha was really well made, super flakey and crispy.  I thought the filling wasn’t bad but I think it must’ve been the carnivore in me that felt I would’ve just liked it a bit more if the filling had some meat (and I’m thinking pork) in it.
Tumblr media
For our mains, we had the hake masala.  This came with a pool of curry sauce and a lemongrass rosti that was lovely and crispy.  The fish was cooked perfectly and the sauce was mild in spiciness but full on flavour.  We’d ordered some rice on the side which the sauce was perfect for.
Tumblr media
The other main we ordered was the pork and mustard green curry.  This was quite a soupy curry but had these big chunks of pork shoulder in it that were tender to the point of falling apart from a touch of the wooden spoon.  It was a really tasty curry and definitely needed the side of rice that we ordered.
I really enjoyed this meal at Lahpet and I would definitely go back to try their bowls of noodles.  I’m looking forward to them opening their new restaurant in Covent Garden as I’m always happy to have another option for a tasty bowl of noodles :)

Naw Doh brought her mom and some farmers from Novick Family Urban Farm to visit Truelove Seeds today, just like last year. This time, they brought a feast, and we harvested lots of vegetables to add to it, and for them to cook at home: turmeric leaf, ginger leaf, spilanthes leaf, pumpkin leaves (for soup) green tomatoes (for the tea leaf salad), and some type of smooth-stemmed bedstraw that grows like a weed, which they simply call “bitter leaf”. I am very grateful to this Karen refugee community from Burma for providing some of the seeds in our catalog (White Garden Eggplant and Rat-Tail Radish) and also for teaching me about all the edible, delicious foods right under my feet. Naw Doh’s favorite is pumpkin leaf, and she said our Lunga di Napoli Squash, with it’s green and white coloring, was the right type of leaf, unlike the Halloween pumpkins whose leaves are plain green and don’t taste good. She demonstrated how to easily peal the strings off the leaves and vines to make it more pleasant to chew in the soup. We ate truly ripe soft yellow cucumbers cooked in a lovely soup. We had deliciously sour Chin Baung (Roselle Leaf) sautéed with bamboo and shrimp, and Naw Doh shared their traditional seeds for this plant so that my friends in Florida can help regenerate them. We learned about the small squat pumpkin-shaped bitter eggplant that is eaten every year in the mountains of Burma as health insurance. The earth provides. Thank you to Naw Doh and the Karen community for sharing your food and your knowledge! Also, thank you @adamforbes29 and @novickurbanfarm for connecting me to this wonderful group. #karenfood #burmesefood #myanmarfood #pumpkinleaf #turmericleaf #gingerleaf #chinbaung #seedkeeping #seedsaving #bittereggplant https://www.instagram.com/p/B2AulKEgkqt/?igshid=1pyvfzjruh1q
