I remember being so distraught when we thought Hirotsu and Gin died, and then when it's revealed that Tachihara was the perpetrator, i was literally like "nvm theyre fine. That's his family, he wouldn't kill them no matter what" and i was right.

Follow up question why do think akutagawa listened to atsushi request to not kill people for 6 months? I don't think this has anything to do with dazai's approval. I like the bsd omake where akutagawa was having a hard time not killing and gin being genuinely worried about his mood!! It's funny how the entire mafioso seem okay with akutagawa's decision to not kill, until he settles his score with jinko.
I do think it was really just that Akutagawa, for how he is, keeps his promises. Once he accepted it - and he accepted it, because Akutagawa can’t turn down a challenge or a chance to prove himself -, I don’t think he ever even considered breaking it, because he’s of that kind: hyperfocused, straightforward, quite the executer, someone who doesn’t really question things but is used to stick to the directives when coming from a place he feels he has to prove himself to (that’s what Dazai made of him, after all). I do agree Dazai’s approval had secondary importance in this case. I also think Akutagawa just really wanted to kill Atsushi. He’s not used to… Question things, and he saw in keeping his promise the only way he could get to fight Atsushi in six months, which is something he really wanted to do, so he just did that. Akutagawa is quite narrow-minded and straightforward.
But again, even leaving that aside, Akutagawa being one who keeps his promises- I don’t know how to explain it, it just fits his character. It fits his being naïve and it fits his serious personality and his upbringing and moral compass. Seriously, I don’t think it was even because of Atsushi specifically, he just keeps his word in general, even if he was to give it to one of his victims before killing them. He’s a man of his word, it's in his very character introduction.
Tumblr media
About how the promise could ever possibly concile with his Mafioso job, thinking about it is my personal treat! It gives back some kind of dignity and authority to Akutagawa after all the mud I so often have fun throwing at him ahah. I think I already summed up pretty well what I think about the matter in the tags here:
Surprisingly, I think Akutagawa has enough power to do that. Despite all the mud I throw at him he *is* one of the most powerful pm members and like... Realistically‚ now that Dazai is gone‚ what is keeping him in the pm anyway? On the other hand, it would indeed be a great loss for Mori to lose him. So I do believe to some extent they just make Akutagawa do whatever he wants to do; which most of the time is killing and maiming so that's quite convenient! But if for six months he decided to limit himself to the maiming part I don't think there's much they can do about it. Besides, I believe it's an important aspect of Akutagawa's character how... You could say‚ capricious, but overall simply untamable and unrestrainable he is. I think that although they never directly confronted about it‚ both Mori and Akutagawa know Mori has to leave Akutagawa enough freedom of action to keep him in after Dazai left. Because again‚ seriously - and that's a whole post for another time -‚ what is keeping Akutagawa in the pm after the dark era events? He doesn't hold any sincere loyalty to the pm like Chuuya does– his true loyalty still lies to Dazai beyond what even Akutagawa himself acknowledges. He can't fear pm retaliation like virtually any other member would, because he's objectively powerful enough that wouldn't be a problem for him. I mean who would they send after him? Chuuya? I mean they technically could‚ but it's going to be unpleasant for everyone. Tl;dr Akutagawa one day really showed up (unannounced) to Mori's office and told him that he‚ ruthless mafioso pm rabid dog™‚ wouldn't have killed anyone for six months and Mori just had to roll with it. But that's fundamentally tied to Akutagawa's whole character and his characteristics of being wild and unpredictable and especially uncontrollable. (Gin's reaction would be indeed hilarious though. Really SHE is the only person left in the pm that holds power over him I'm not joking)
I do actually believe that Akutagawa, despite not being an executive, has enough power to decide what he does and doesn’t do in the mafia. He’s the most valuable member that isn’t an executive, and one of the most powerful members overall. He’s often played a key role in the pm’s major conflicts. Mori has direct interest not to lose him. Yet Akutagawa has no real reason to stay in the pm? He joined because of Dazai, but Dazai is not there anymore. He never showed true loyalty to the pm outside of doing his job. It really is just a job for him- a job he’s quite good at doing, a job that’s perfectly fit for him, but still a job he can abandon any time. There are universes where Akutagawa doesn’t work for the pm. But that doesn't change the fact that it would be a great loss for Mori if Akutagawa left, so if Akutagawa one day is just like, “no killing commissions for the next six months”, Mori just has to deal with it. And Akutagawa – who after all has a very powerfull skill, and after Dazai left was able to climb the ranks easily – has enough authority to do that. He’s not an executive (and I firmly believe he will never become one), but he is not below executives either; in the story he’s always shown receiving orders from the organization boss directly and answering to him only.
Akutagawa is a wild beast. He doesn’t like being kept under the leash. Dazai had (and still has) complete control over him, but that’s because he’s Dazai, and because of the circumstances in which they met; that said, Akutagawa isn’t willing to let anyone else control him very easily, and after Dazai left the pm, Akutagawa stayed, but at his own conditions. Which more often than not align with the pm’s, because he’s good at killing, and gets some kind of satisfaction from it, so he’s fit for the job; but if he ever decided to temporary change the terms, to do as he pleases and not kill anyone for six months, that’s for the others to deal, because there’s no changing his mind (and you don't want to contradict Akutagawa).

One thing that the first half of Untold Origins of the Armed Detective Agency really reiterates for me is that no one in that fucking agency knows a goddamn thing about anyone they work with.
Especially Kunikida. He doesn’t know anything about Dazai. He doesn’t know how the agency got founded. He doesn’t even know that Fukuzawa raised Ranpo. Tanizaki is also too afraid to find out any of this information.
At least Atsushi trauma dumps at job interviews I guess… so they all know more about him than they ever wanted to. But this is definitely why they’re all constantly side-eyeing him like “you weird, sad orphan…”

You know, as much as I love Wan and as much as I recognise how non-canonical it is, I gotta say....they were so wrong for making Dazai, Yosano, and Kouyou the preschool teachers. All three of them are unhinged and traumatised and two of them canonically. taught children and scarred them horribly.
The only two qualified to even be associated with teacher-hood are Fukuzawa and Hirotsu, you cannot change my mind.

Yes, hello, I was flipping through your watchlist (I think that’s what it is? Shows you intend to watch or have watched, right?) and I saw! My favorite one, Bungou Stray Dogs! And I don’t know if you intend to watch it soon (or ever! It’s fine if you never do, of course!), or how you decide what to watch next, but I saw it and got excited and wanted to Ramble so! Here we are! Did my best to steer clear or spoilers, though, so… Enjoy!
A List of Reasons to Watch Bungou Stray Dogs
- You seem to have a type when it comes to pairings and I think that would hold true here, too! The MC and his mentor have pretty good chemistry in my opinion, and I doubt you’d have to worry about being attacked by people angry at you for aging up the MC since he’s Already An Adult at 18 years old. They also just look very nice together, but they are my OTP, so I may be biased, haha.
- There’s a cat boy. I’m not gonna get too far into it just to be safe on spoilers, but there is one and I love him. He can pop the ears and the tail and even paws, it’s great. There are other reasons falling under this but those will come later, if you chose to watch- Again, for spoiler reasons! If nothing else, I think it’d be hilarious if he interacted with Aizawa.
- MC clearly has Trauma but it’s never really addressed satisfactorily? So you can just go Balls to the Walls in the way I’ve seen you do with other traumas from other protagonists (please adopt the MC like I have I love him so much-).
- There’s quite a bit of side material! Some of the voice actors have done little radio shows (the one with the MC’s and the Mentor’s VAs is genuinely really fucking cute), there’s a sort of alternate universe, what if sort of version? Though you’d probably need to read that after the series proper, for spoiler reasons. Also, WAN! I love WAN, it’s so good, if you end up looking into BSD you need to watch and/or read WAN! It’s basically a bunch of little omakes and side stories, all very cute. The MC becomes a magical girl at one point.
- There’s another “father figure” for you to hate. And at least a few more, especially if you watch the movie!
- The MC literally sleeps in a closet at least once. I can’t remember if that’s just Where He Sleeps but quite a few people headcanon that’s it’s just. His room now. This has both funny and serious connotations depending on how you look at it but HE COMES OUT OF THE CLOSET EVERY MORNING AAAYYY-
Some Warnings About Bungou Stray Dogs
- Not gonna go too deep into it, but as a heads up, it does contain discussion on things like abuse, suicide, self hatred, guilt, morality, and a variety of other dark or heavy topics. I’m not sure if those would put you off but I’d much rather you be safe if you ever chose to watch it than get taken off guard by that stuff!
- One of the running jokes involves incest. I’m… Not fond of it, though I suppose it gives room for headcanoning as to why? But it did surprise me when I first saw it, so I thought I’d warn you.
Hopefully this doesn’t come across as annoying or pushy, I’m just very excitable and wanted to share some stuff about the series. I hope you’re doing alright either way!!!
God yeah I've got to get to BSD.

OKAY UMMMM this is hard bc I know most of this. imma give you a couple:
ezekiel jones bc silly guy & uhhhh chuuya or gin, ig you haven’t done them bc i literally CALLED that you’d love them!!!
also did you know that. um. ily~
hi beloved ily 🥰💕 starting with gin bc. fave 💓💓💓
first impression:
"wait 'he'? i didn't think corey said they were a boy??" and then i think i proceeded to actually pause the episode and check bsd wiki to make sure i had the right character and correctly remembered what you told me about them
impression now:
i need to see them again Right Now. please asagiri bring them back i need to see them i need to know they're okay i need them to reunite with akutagawa and i need to see what happens between them and tachi and and adn
favorite moment:
all of them <3 uhh real answer is i really love the omake where they're going around asking for advice about how to help akutagawa deal with his stress in a healthy way now that he can't kill people
idea for a story:
sometimes i think about a tachigin bodyswap au.. post-doa arc so gin has to deal with tachi's limited vision while tachi is suddenly faced with the brunt of gin's body dysphoria. gin hates hearing their voice but tachi doesn't actually mind it and he won't shut up. gin doesn't mind talking either now though bc their voice just sounds like tachihara's. and they don't actually mind being in his body either. but also having to watch their body from the outside is weird and awful. they have to call akutagawa to pick them up and take them to the agency so dazai can switch them back. akutagawa seems to hate the switch even more than gin and tachihara do.
unpopular opinion:
they're the best character in bsd.
favorite relationship:
any flavor of tachigin and also the akutagawa siblings!!! i want to see more of them in canon asagiri please also i'm kind of really intrigued by their dynamic with dazai,, like we don't really see much interaction between them in canon but i like how i picture their dynamic in my mind bc gin has a lot of complicated feelings towards him and i'm not sure dazai really even realizes that, or at least he doesn't realize the full extent of it
favorite headcanon:
transmasc gin!!!
chuuya:
first impression:
"he's the geto of bungou stray dogs"
impression now:
for someone who has literally the most fans out of all the bsd characters, there are surprisingly few people who even remotely understand them😐
favorite moment:
basic but probably when he comes to save the ada in the helicopter. or the scene in dead apple when he goes to fight the dragon and ango is like "dude dazai's probably dead. you're going to die if you use corruption." and chuuya's like LOL dazai??? dead????? trust me i'd know if that waste of bandages finally kicked the bucket. now stop talking i have a dragon to beat up
idea for a story:
i think i told you about this but a kunichuu 5+1 that's just chuuya not being able to shut up about kunikida when talking to literally everyone at the port mafia. they're spending a half hour talking about kuni during an executive meeting and they aren't even dating him yet. how is this somehow worse than teenage dazai and chuuya, mori wonders. at least it isn't dazai, kouyou argues, blissfully unaware that dazai will end up being part of the relationship too.
unpopular opinion:
i don't like transmasc chuuya. it won't turn me off a fic completely but chuuya is one of those characters like cherry and zuko who gets softened and uwu-ified and oftentimes, this is just made even worse when they're written as trans. which is. a problem across fandoms in general obviously since cherry and zuko get the same treatment. also this shouldn't be unpopular but chuuya didn't spend like eight months crying himself to sleep after dazai left. hello??? do you even hear yourself??? i'm not a big fan of femchuuya either and in fact like that less than femdazai. nor am i particularly into ada chuuya, mostly because people soften their character way too much when they write ada chuuya. i want my chuuya still recognizable as chuuya!!! alas most people can't even get chuuya's characterization right regardless of any au or gender headcanons. anyway i'm sure i have a bunch more but i'll stop here
favorite relationship:
have you heard of kunichuu. or kunichuuzai even. it's not as if we have spoken about this at length multiple times or anything
favorite headcanon:
nonbinary chuuya!!!!!
--
ezekiel:
first impression:
i first watched the librarians in 2015 i do NOT remember that
impression now:
i miss him :(
favorite moment:
in the apple of discord episode where he snatches the apple but nothing happens bc he's "already the worst version of himself". i don't think we talk enough about the implications of that!!! the others immediately went for murder but ezekiel's "worst version" of himself is?? a thief who's kinda lazy but still clearly cares about everyone around him?? do you understand how insane that is!!!!!!
idea for a story:
once a very long time ago (in high school) i started writing an arospec ezekiel fic. i didn't get very far and i'm sure whatever i had written was bad but it was such a good idea
unpopular opinion:
i don't think there were any popular ezekiel opinions i heavily disagreed with?? best i can think of is that i like caszekiel better than jassandra
favorite relationship:
jazekiel realness..... and i do enjoy caszekiel too
favorite headcanon:
demiromantic/demisexual ezekiel!! it's canon TO ME
