I legitimately could write so many essays or video essays on the dream SMP if I actually sat down to do it
- retrospective: dream smp's place in internet culture; how a very unique set of circumstances led to the explosion in popularity
- retrospective: rise and fall of the dream smp; something about how scheduling issues and various other things caused the actual story of the server to fall apart in many ways
- legitimately probably dozens of character studies and story analyses i could do especially about tommy dream and wilbur who are my favorites and have such a unique narrative dynamic
- i have this one fucking batshit theory/take from ages ago (just after tommy died in prison) in which pandora's vault is representative of the actual moral center of the dsmp and tbh i think i cooked with that one
- the impact of fanon on canon and my own personal experiences with Canon As A Suggestion
- the unique space the medium occupies: cc! and c! blurring the lines between actor and character, the weird half-lore segments, the fact that it started out as a bit and became something So Serious, the way that live-streamed minecraft roleplay actually works as a storytelling medium
- legitimately i could probably write really good literature reviews on certain subsections of fanfiction especially sbi tropes.
- subpoint: how the dream smp's specific boundaries and culture made gen fic far more popular than ship fic and how that is so nice to see as an aroace person specifically but also just in general
- just a personal essay on how important and impactful the dream smp was to me As A Person and how it's still a piece of media that is really really important to me, and how i balance that with the feeling of cringe and also The Controversy
- an exploration of fandom space and culture through the dsmp and my experiences in it autoethnography style
like i have So much to say all the time this doesn't even really cover it. exile's impact on the story. when the lore became actually serious. wilbur's entire character arc. tommy as an unwillingly willing protagonist. the discs. THE DISCS. the way that i would rewrite the story if it were me telling it. the way that since it was roleplay it was essentially a first draft and that should be taken into account when analyzing it. Literally Any Fandom Discourse. Literally Any Personal Essay. Literally Any Character Analysis. if i had the time and energy to actually do research for these things and put them together i would be so banger for real

favorite niche piece of media? elaborate.
ok i don't know exactly how niche this is but my favorite movies of all time are both like. not extremely popular so
ok my two favorite movies of all time are tied and it's the prestige and the count of monte cristo (2002)
so. the prestige. it's a story about two magicians in 1890s london. they hate each other. they hate each other so much. i can't even explain the movie without giving anything away because it's an absolute masterclass in foreshadowing and well-earned plot twists. it's sort of a mystery but not really. it's DEFINITELY a drama. it's the world's greatest revenge story. it's about hatred and obsession and how they ruin your life. it's about magic. it's about humanity. it's about not believing the obvious answer even when it's right in front of you because it's too simple. nikola tesla is there and plays a major role in the story. it's a frame narrative with three levels - you're watching the story of a man reading a diary about how that diary's author was reading the first man's diary. there's a murder trial. the plot twist is so well earned. it's a million times better on the rewatch and i catch a new detail every time i watch it. the cinematography is absolutely gorgeous. if you're paying attention you can catch the biggest plot twist 10 minutes into the movie but no one ever does, which is in and of itself the thesis of the movie. michael caine plays the best character in the movie. i think everyone should watch the prestige
the count of monte cristo (2002) is the most recent(?) film adaptation of a famous classic french novel by the same name. it's ALSO a revenge story. it is probably the most satisfying revenge story ive ever seen. the absolute catharsis of watching the main character's revenge plot come together and get executed flawlessly is like doing straight heroin. napoleon bonaparte is there and plays a minor role in the story. there's a scene that makes me cry. if you asked me what love looks like i would point to that scene without hesitation. richard harris plays the best character in the entire movie. there's several extremely punchable men. they all, in fact, get punched. henry cavill plays an entitled rich 16 year old boy with daddy issues. the pacing of the story is phenomenal. my favorite scene in the movie involves a hot air balloon and an absolutely pimpin outfit, complete with cane
i love these movies so much. the prestige i watch when im in the mood for like an insane drama but the count of monte cristo is just a feel good "sit back and relax and eat some chocolate" movie

One of the things that I really love about Anya is how empathetic she is. While she doesn’t really understand Yuri’s complicated thoughts, she knew he need comfort and she offered it to him in a way she knows how: giving pats.
She did the same with the cow, Yor and Franky too. I love Anya a lot!

Minor detail that made me sad during Book 7 Chapter 6:
When, 10 years after the war, Baul mentioned "Kingdom of Thorns", he corrected himself and said "Valley of Thorns" instead. So much of their lands have been stolen away from them that they don't even officially qualify as a kingdom anymore.
Even so, their citizens still hold on to their pride and never forget what is rightfully theirs.
Although if the illness in the royal court keeps going, at this rate it isn't impossible that they too would fall and fade into obscurity as a mere fairytale.

This was was literally the most fun I’ve ever had drawing in a while, i experimented with soooo many effects (even though i ended up not using a lot of them lol)
My concept was early 2000s / late 90s in terms of fashion, but i kind of just went with whatever i wanted as i went along
I honestly thought hopper was going to turn out terribly because no matter what i did he just looked like a tiktok fuck boy LMAO and TBH he still kind of does but I’ve just accepted it (i refused to give him his canon hair because i didnt want to draw a hairline so I’ve just gone with this lmao)
Cupid was def my fav, i was tempted to give her tattoos but that was just a lot of detail work i didn’t want to do (I could totally see her getting like biblically accurate angels or smth)
Btw i dont know if briar would’ve looked better with gold jewelry but the silver looked good so i ran with it
If you see the frog.png in the bottom left, OFC i had to draw a frog, it took me so long to write frog in the font and literally no one is going to read it but I HAD FUN

least favorite tropes? and why?
ooh hmmm it's a lot more difficult for me to pin down my LEAST favorite tropes because so many times i will see something that i should hate but that is well written and go :)
that being said here is my attempt at a list, in no particular order
miscommunication based on dumb misunderstandings played for drama that lasts ages. i think this one is self explanatory. i actually do like miscommunication sometimes but when it's stretched out for ages when all that needs to happen is the characters have one (1) conversation it feels cheap and annoying. i will even accept a dumb misunderstanding for drama if it gets resolved in a chapter/episode or two
love triangles and adjacently, will they/won't they. love triangles are.... fine.... ive definitely found myself enjoying them before, kind of. but it's the whole "oh i don't know mimimimi ive never made a decision or committed in my life ever" that really gets to me. girl. please. please. for the Love. of God. please. one decision. please don't stretch it out for ages for no reason
on that note characters who are overly self-pitying and have no confidence/self esteem really annoy me. look i get it. but please. please. stop. just an ounce of confidence, an ounce of getting your head out of your ass
insta-love. it can work sometimes, love at first sight can be cute it it's not the main focus and you still get to see development of the couple over time (like in my adventures with superman) but when you rush from not even knowing each other to confessing your undying love it's like mmmmmmmmm i don't know about that
i don't like damsel in distress stories but i also don't like it when the guy gets there and the girl is already on her way out and she's like "what, you thought i couldn't do it because i was a Girl?" but i also don't like it when a girl who SHOULD be competent isn't. how about we treat our characters like people who have strengths and weaknesses and let them play to their strengths and weaknesses instead of contriving ways for them to fall in love through arbitrary peril-rescue scenarios
im sure there are more but i got bored of typing them out just now lol

yapping about Briar. fellow Briar enjoyers assemble.
okay okay i don’t make it too obvious (or maybe i do, i wouldn’t know) but briar is my personal favorite character. i think about where the stories of all the characters would go and what their arcs would be a lot, but hers in particular is really important to me.
so i wanna talk about it.
first of all, she’s narcoleptic coded, right. we all know that. but her mom on the other hand reads to me, like, an alcoholic mother? and her dad is just willfully ignorant. either way, there’s a huge sense of neglect going on in that family. i mean go figure why briar would be the one doing most of the work raising her brothers. and of course she’s a party girl, because who’s gonna stop her? her parents? see yeah exactly.
so i don’t think it’s unreasonable to say she doesn’t have very strong parental figures in her life, at least not at home. but, and now you have to really hear me out about this one, i think baba yaga could take up a parental role in her life.
i know it isn’t much, but the seeds for her having at least a hint of a connection with baba yaga are there.
in the webisode “Stark Raven Mad”, baba yaga scolds briar for rambling about her party, and then as the commotion picks up she’s still exercising authority over briar in particular.
then there’s thronecoming, wherein, when briar is sulking at the dance, upon noticing the picture on the projector, she asks baba yaga for answers, who provides them.
and then skipping all the way to epic winter, after the girls become a little creeped out by her mannerisms and book it, briar is the one who makes sure to peak back in and give a parting remark.
so i think there’s potential there to be explored. her feeling neglected at home and then finding solace in another adult at school would be neat.
but the fact that it’s baba yaga is important, so just put a pin in that and we’ll circle back to it.
now, i think out of the core four, she was (at least at first) the hardest to actually pin-point what the future of her story could look like. with raven, i think it’s pretty clear her journey is just continuing to combat the prejudices of the world as she fights for change, apple is now pretty much on a path to figuring out her own future as ruler of a kingdom and what that’s going to entail, and maddie is the goofball that’s there to have fun and be supportive along the way.
then there’s briar. and, let me be clear, no, in my mind that girl is not sleeping for 100 years with where things are heading; in the main universe of the story, briar will be free of the sleeping beauty destiny.
but it’s like, if she’s not gonna sleep, what more is there to actually do with her? what direction COULD her life go in? because if she’s no longer fated to sleep 100 years of her life away, then she can’t just party like there’s no tomorrow anymore. she’d need to decide what she actually wants to do with her life.
and i think i have an idea.
i mentioned her narcoleptic coding at the start with intent to bring it up again. see, you might notice that a lot of the fairytale aspects of ever after high can be read as allegories for real-world problems. for example, hunter and ashlynn’s relationship is treated in their world the same way society may look at queer couples or biracial couples. or how raven’s mom being trapped in a mirror is their world equivalent to not paying child support.
with that kind of correlation in mind, i think treating briar’s curse as a condition could open up an interesting opportunity. i think, in their world, curses as a whole could be viewed as a separate branch of medical specialization, with briar spearheading this notion of thought.
we know briar is well-versed in chemythstry already. in the webisode “Briar’s Study Party” she makes note of the fact that she’s been studying forever-after, and she demonstrates enough knowledge in the subject to enthusiastically teach it to her friends, who all end up acing their tests on it as a result.
i think this is something she could potentially make a career out of. i think she could come to the conclusion that she wants to be able to help break curses for people everywhere, and could pursue learning to develop potions and elixirs to do so.
which could happen under baba yaga’s tutelage.
picture this: briar declares her newfound goal, to which baba yaga offers to teach briar all she knows in order to achieve what she’s set her sights on. briar—with an ounce of hesitance—accepts, and baba yaga officially takes her under her wing with the intent of mastering sorcery.
obviously, she wouldn’t lose who she is in this. she’s still gonna be an impulsive, adrenaline junkie who desperately needs a screentime limit on her mirrorphone. but in this process, she’d be rounded out by baba yaga and would in turn mature a bit from the experience. she’d get serious about life, but she wouldn’t let go of who she is at heart.
this could lead to her becoming the resourceful one in the main group. like on adventures, she’d be able to pull out a potion or whip something up (because i’m not going to let raven’s magic make her too o.p. she’s gotta have limitations) as a solution to problems. she could really have a role that proves useful and important to the story.
that’s my ideal pitch for where to take briar’s character.

Becky coming over for a slumber party with Anya.
Yor thinking there's no need for her and Loid to share a bed for appearances sake when their guest won't be needing her own room, Becky can just sleep in Anya's room with her. And Yor was certain she could sneak past the two 6 year olds into own bedroom without their guest noticing. It was going to be such a fun night! She should get the girls matching sleeping bags! Maybe they could even make a pillow fort and camp out in the living room!
Twilight casually throwing out every possible excuse he can think of as to why sharing his bed for the night would in fact be the safer option for the mission, without just explaining to his wife that the visiting 6 year old has a creep level crush on him and he's worried about her snooping around in the middle of the night.

Someone said the ED was about Anya being Loid and Yor's light but that's not true, because Anya is in darkness too. She needs them too
We see them all alone for a reason, and that's because without each other it's darkness. When they go into their own rooms they have to be alone again, focusing on the mission or on their past or what have you
But the moment the sun comes up and a new days begins, they finally feel hopeful
And that's when we see the light. The OP and ED really aren't being subtle here. They are each others light. And even if it is "for the mission" clearly it's not. Because all we see are things that are clearly not for the mission.
The mission doesn't require hugs or laughs from friends, it doesn't require family cooking and dinner. It doesn't need any of this
The people who need this are Loid, Yor, and Anya (and Bond of course).
And when the day ends and the mission begins again, we see the toll it takes on them. Because for there to be light, there needs to be a little bit of darkness. But the Forgers know, maybe subconsciously, that their light is always waiting for them at home.
