It’s been a whirlwind body week+ and today I had the delight of an excited dog landing full force on my left hip causing a cascade of functionality drop. Feeling such gratitude for the folks I was supposed to be on different zoom calls/sessions with today moving plans to the weekend or next week. Gratitude to my Boy helping get me standing, fed, drugged, into/out of baths, even getting my shoes on so I could take an Uber home. I need home time. One of the challenges with my body adventures though is that if it is hip, knee, back, general vertigo, or Meniere’s related, going up and down stairs is tricky… if possible. Had the aha 2 weeks ago to offer keys to my building/home to a few extra folks, plus that if I remove the bug screens from a window I can toss my keys down so others can come up. I have such gratitude for the people in my life. For their generous spirits and open hearts. Now to battle internalized ableism mixed with the dance of not always being able to “prove” it is bad. Plus, to feel the love of well-intended offers of ideas that are not actually viable for me. Having groceries or food delivered, for example, is a well intended offer… but if I can’t go down 2 flights to then carry stuff back up… such a kind gift becomes a challenge I must now overcome. I feel the love, and, breathing deep, I also ask folks to know what helps someone else. What helps you might not help me. The golden rule states “do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” A beautiful intention. I believe in the platinum rule, “do unto others as they actually want done.” Today I breathe, stretch, hold, whimper, breathe, hydrate, lay flat, stand up, move slow, move a centimeter at a time, letting tears flow and gasps escape. It is okay to be I say to myself. It is beautiful to be in community and a web that carries such love to and from me. Blessed to have those who do not say “get better soon,” as this is a long-term dance. Blessed be.
