🧩 Unlocking the Power of Sudoku🧠
Let me take you back a couple of years—a time when my world was turned upside down by a traumatic brain injury. In its aftermath, I found myself navigating a labyrinth of uncertainty, grappling with the daunting task of rebuilding what had been shaken to its core.
Amidst the chaos of recovery, I discovered an unexpected ally: Sudoku. What began as a simple pastime soon evolved into a potent tool in rebuilding my cognitive faculties. With each meticulously placed number, I felt my mental acuity sharpening, as if each puzzle piece held the key to unlocking my brain's dormant potential.
Tumblr media
Here's how Sudoku became more than just a game, but a lifeline, offering a multitude of benefits that propelled me forward on my journey of restoration:
1. Mental Stimulation: Sudoku exercises the brain, promoting mental agility and keeping the mind sharp, crucial in preventing cognitive decline.
2. Improved Concentration: Solving Sudoku puzzles requires focused attention and concentration, aiding in training the mind to stay focused for longer periods, crucial during recovery.
3. Enhanced Problem-Solving Skills: Sudoku challenges you to think logically and strategically, honing your problem-solving abilities, vital in navigating the complexities of recovery.
4. Stress Reduction: Engaging in Sudoku provides a mental break, promoting relaxation amidst the chaos of recovery, fostering a sense of calm and tranquility.
5. Increased Memory Retention: Regular practice of Sudoku improves memory retention and recall, crucial in rebuilding cognitive functions post-injury.
6. Boosted Confidence: Successfully completing Sudoku puzzles boosts self-confidence, encouraging you to tackle more challenging tasks, vital in rebuilding self-esteem after trauma.
7. Enhanced Visual Perception: Sudoku requires analyzing patterns and identifying relationships between numbers, improving visual perception and spatial reasoning skills, aiding in overall cognitive rehabilitation.
8. Improved Time Management: Setting goals and solving Sudoku puzzles within a time limit improves time management skills, essential in organizing and prioritizing tasks during recovery.
9. Cross-Training for the Brain: Sudoku offers diverse cognitive challenges, including logic, pattern recognition, and deductive reasoning, providing comprehensive brain training, essential for overall cognitive health.
10. Accessible and Portable: Sudoku puzzles are readily available, making them a convenient and portable way to exercise your brain anytime, anywhere, offering a consistent source of cognitive stimulation during recovery.
So, while the struggles may still be severe, I take solace in knowing that Sudoku has become more than just a game—it's a symbol of hope, resilience, and the unwavering strength of the human spirit.

Brain Injury Awareness Week
Brain Injury Awareness Week is from May 11 to May 17. This week aims to raise awareness about the issues people suffering from brain injuries face. There are many causes of brain injury. It could be caused by a fall, the head being struck against something, motor accidents, or an assault, to name just a few. Brain injury survivors have to face a lot daily, whether they struggle with temporary or permanent disabilities or face other people’s prejudices. People with brain injuries should consult professionals to seek the appropriate treatment for their problems.

Something people don't know about brain injuries is that every injury is different. For some people a slight bump on the head might not do anything, but for others that bump could be life changing. One of the age old questions is "could a penny drop from the top of the empire state building and kill you." The answer is no but It can damage the skull. (Greenhut,2015) something so small can change someone's life in the matter of an instant. Society has its own stigma on brain injuries. We might not rationalize how a penny, a box, a lift gate, a pebble or door could cause such damage. Yet when a baseball, soccer ball, volleyball, a baseball bat, a car or a person causes the damage we understand it better. When in reality the damage from something so unpredictable could be just as damaging as those we are more aware of. This is the case with me. This is a current picture of my neck. Can you see anything wrong with it? Is it normal to you? Sadly it's not. It's far from normal. I found out just recently, all the neck pain I had from my brain injury was caused from a bone sticking into my skull. Another thing caused from a box being dropped on my head. Sadly injuries like this are more common than one might think but certain doctors don't know to look for it so it can sometimes cause people to be misdiagnosed or overlooked. Although I told doctors about the ball on the back of my neck and all the pain. They missed it. I'm very lucky to have found a chiropractor that knew what to look for. He's helping me get my c1 vertebrae out of my skull and get my spine/neck back to normal, 3.25 years after my initial injury. He says it won't be a cure all but it'll relieve alot of my issues. #braininjuryawarenessmonth #braininjuryawareness #mystory #mystoryisntoveryet #recoveryroad #braininjuryrecovery #braininjurysurvivor https://www.instagram.com/p/Ca-ysNIOadZ/?utm_medium=tumblr

Smiles... the thing that brings me back to being human. I'd like to talke about seizures; I do not always smile during a seizure, but sometimes I laugh and make jokes if I'm conscious enough... I'll throw a peace sign if my hand is cramping in a weird way. Or tell the scared man in the elevator that I'm just a mermaid out of water and I'll be dome flopping like a fish once I get back to the water....... often times, people don't joke back, because they are scared... but so am I, and I am trying to cope too, so I joke. Is it bad timing or terrible puns? Absolutely! But that is how I just keep swimming. Having memory resets afterwards or waking up in the garden or chicken coop not knowing who my family is... that still happens, rarely, but it does. Mainly when I am sick (like really sick with Covid) or a family member dies and there is stress, quite literally, it comes out through my body now. It never did before my Traumatic Brain Injury, I never had seizures, I'd tune out when overwhelmed, maybe have a moment of needing to calm, but never seizures and memory loss... this is still a challenge I am learning to cope with daily. The challenge of forgetting to eat, and not physically feeling hungry, forgetting to pee and ..... must I explain that one? Forgetting to get dressed and just wandering half clothed or without any. It is a challenge, one I often smile through. Smiling, though it does not take away the pain, can create a sense of ease to find what or who does make me smile. Moments in time, whether I remember fully or not, moments that are truly smilebringers, the ones that make you pause and thing, wow this is happening. So when I smile, and I can remember, it is a great smile, and a great feeling behind it, because it means it hold memories, either once made, or to be made in the moment. #Love #Life #Covid #TBI #TBIWontStopHer #Living #Smile #Happiness #Moments #Memory #Memories #WorthLiving #DontStompOnYourFresh #Loveit #Seizures #Brains #BrainInjuryAwareness https://www.instagram.com/p/ChSL84zrH8r/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

In the dimly lit cafe, the aroma of freshly brewed coffee mingled with nervous anticipation as I waited for my date to arrive. Thoughts raced through my mind, wondering if tonight would be the beginning of something beautiful or just another fleeting encounter.
When he finally walked in, a smile spread across my face. Conversation flowed effortlessly, laughter punctuating the air as we shared stories and dreams over cups of steaming coffee. I felt a connection, a spark of possibility igniting within me.
But as the evening wore on, I knew there was something I needed to share. With a deep breath, I mustered the courage to speak the words that had long weighed heavy on my heart.
"I want to be honest with you," I began, my voice tinged with vulnerability. "I have a brain injury."
His reaction was unexpected, his expression shifting from interest to discomfort in an instant. "Oh," he muttered, his eyes darting away uneasily.
I could sense the shift in the atmosphere, the warmth of our connection cooling like a distant memory. It was as if my truth had erected an insurmountable barrier between us, casting a shadow over the promise of what could have been.
As he made his excuses and bid me farewell, I watched him go with a mixture of disappointment and resignation. Once again, I had been reminded of the stigma and misconceptions surrounding brain injury, the fear of the unknown driving us apart.
But amidst the ache of rejection, I found solace in the knowledge that my worth was not defined by his lack of understanding. I was more than the sum of my challenges, more than the limitations imposed upon me by society's narrow perceptions.
As awareness and understanding of brain injury continue to evolve, I hold onto the hope that one day, society will be able to see beyond the labels and embrace the beauty of imperfection. Until then, I walk with my head held high, knowing that my journey is paved with courage, resilience, and unwavering self-belief.
