Small "What is going on in the bkdk this week" update

I am still trying to write a full on summary of the bkdk history in fandom, but for now, what is going on this week?? It is now the 6/10/22 and this week had been quite interesting!

Monday 3 October was international boyfriend day and Noguchi, one of Horikoshi's previous assistants, decided to bless us with this fanart, which was the most bkdkbk fanart he has ever posted:

The number 5 was quite interesting and some people have speculated it could be tarot related given some of the tarot references in BNHA. In particular the fifth card is teh Hierophant which apparently symbolizes: Marriage, alliance, captivity, servitude; by another account, mercy, and goodness; inspiration.

Later, the next day, we have this twitter. This is from Kobayashi Ryota who is the actor who plays Bakugou in the Ultra Stage musical (more info on the musical here). The tweet reads "I purchased the last volume of Heroaca. I've read it". The last volume is volume 36, where the famous chapter 362 is located. The additional video is the actor playing a romantic song dedicating it to volume 36.

This is the translation of the songs lyrics:

The same day, Noguchi's mutual on twitter Hidero Mashi (who works on another work: "Prince of Stride") comments on Kobayashi's tweet, and later on Noguchi and Hidero Mashi ends up in a twitter space talking Bkdk. (just know that Hidero Mashi has been drawing bkdk fanarts for quite a while, in the past).

They both draw Bkdk dancing (here is Hidero's art and here is Noguchi's art), and Hidero even tries to (unsuccessfully) explain to Noguchi what the omegaverse is.

Where we have again the number 5.

This time we have 5 hearts on Bakugou's shirt, and they are drawn EXACTLY like the card "5 of hearts" which represents marriage:

Imagine getting an Ochako solo cover for this volume!

All of those crazy fanarts becoming true!!

Volume 38 featured Himiko Toga, containing chapters from 375 to 386, i.e. a total of 11 chapters. Assuming that Vol 38 also contains 11 chapters, we have a slot from ch 387 to ch 398. Both Ochako and Toga are valid candidates, along with Shouto and Todoroki family who showcased some major developments.

We had Shouto Todoroki RISING with ch 390 and Ochako's Quirk Awakening with ch 393, so these two would most likely compete for a spot in the main cover.

A solo cover for any character, is the most likely option since most of the BnHA covers feature just one or two characters.

Likely options:

Shouto Todoroki RISING: another solo Shouto cover, with Dabi and Todoroki family (marking the end of this plotline)

TogaChako battle cover similar to vol 27 or vol 36

A solo Ochako cover: Awakening (it would be crazy if Ochako got a solo cover after Toga)

A mix of Ochako, Toga, Shouto, Dabi and the battle chaos like vol 22 cover

Maybe another Toga cover (because Horikoshi loves to draw her and we got her backstory and stuff)

Other (we don't know what will happen in future chapters, maybe something major happens and that takes the cover page)

But let's see what happens!

Hoping that Ochako gets her solo cover at least this time, cause she has already been sidelined for other characters time and time again!

21. part of canon you think is overhyped

I think that a lot of the big reveals in Code Geass, especially after the midpoint, aren’t as fun as the earlier ones.

As far as BNHA goes, though… I actually think 1-A’s speech to Izuku when he’s running from them and subsequent shepherding is just a little too cheesy for me. I still like it overall, but there is something that weirds me out about that many people going to support one other person in this way. It’s the same part of me that squirms at some forms of PDA.

I also got bored during the final stretch of fight in the Overhaul arc, particularly Mirio’s fight.

22. your favorite part of canon that everyone else ignores

MY FAVORITE PARTS OF YUGIOH ARE THE FIRST FIVE VOLUMES. I also loved the season zero fillers, though we could argue about how “canon” or not they are.

For BNHA, um. The things that get on my nerves that people ignore isn’t fandom-wide, but more notorious in certain subgroups. It’s hard to name just one thing that I see across spaces off the top of my head.

But if I had to choose something that personally drives me the MOST insane when people don’t acknowledge it, it’s this: Katsuki and Izuku love each other. Period, the end. It isn’t “gay”, it isn’t “straight”, it isn’t “NOT gay”, and it isn’t “NOT straight”. It just is.

Related - the fandom needs to get talking about the absolutely boggling amounts of idealized potential father-figure projecting Izuku does on Katsuki without acknowledging it because he can, much like he does with most of his admiration, believably pin it all on All Might instead and have nobody question it unless they look a little harder.

C’mon, y’all, I know Bakudeku in any capacity isn’t seen as PROBLEMATIQUE as it used to be, but it’s time to get back into the spirit of going bloody-knuckled into stories that explore the presence of love despite (or even because of) some unsavory shit (from a western perspective, anyway. It’s more ambiguous from other perspectives, I think.)

I have been hyperfocused on Mic's lack of a mustache, as well as Midnight's lack of a latex suit, on the backside of the BNHA Vigilantes volume 12 manga.

So i decided to do some investigating to find out why they appear this way.

Since i don't keep up with Vigilantes like I do with the main story manga, I wasn't sure if the events of the chapters featured in volume 12 were a flashback or not. Upon closer inspection, I did figure out that it was, in fact, a flashback, although they don't specify how many years ago this flashback takes place, so I'm going mainly off of the physical appearances of recognizable characters like All Might and Fatgum, as well as a character that is key for me to find a good enough estimate of age: Miruko.

Under the alias Tiger Bunny, Miruko was still a highschool delinquent in this flashback, which puts her somewhere between the ages of 15 and 18.

I'm gonna go ahead and just say she was 17, that's only a guestimation though. Now I'll subtract that from her current age in the main series: 27, and that would put this flashback roughly 10 years in the past.

Now I will apply this to All Might, who was looking much healthier in this flashback compared his current appearance. I personally believe All Might is 55 in the main series, influenced by some new information in the most recent manga chapters. I'd be happy to elaborate on this another time, but for now I wanna advance my point for this post. With that said, All Might might be about 45 in this flashback, which to me explains why he still looks healthy: the events also take place 5 years before he receives his terrible wound from fighting All For One.

Also, Sir Nighteye is here in the flackback, who in the main series had left All Might after he received his battle wound.

AFO is also shown to still have his hair and nose in this flashback, before the battle where he wounds All Might and gets his own skull crushed like a soda can (that unfortunately did not kill him).

I also just wanna throw in Fatgum for good measure since I love him dearly. He is 29 in the main series, so 10 years ago would put him at about 19 in the flashback. Barely a pro, but also no longer a hero student. <3

So now that I've guestimated the number of years this flashback may take place in, I'll finally apply it to the MidEraserMic trio.

Both Aizawa and Mic are the same age (although Mic is 4 months older heheheh~), and are currently 31 in the main series. So they would be 21 in the flashback.

Midnight was already a third year student when Aizawa and Mic were in their second year of high school, putting her at maybe a year older (32), and 22 in the flashback.

And that, my friends, is why Mic doesn't have a mustache, and why Midnight's lack of latex seems a little similar to her pro-hero debut costume.

The three of them were depicted on the back of the volume 12 manga as young "we're legally allowed to drink now" adults, still only ankle-deep in the waters of professional heroism.

Aizawa is the only one who looks no different than how he normally looks, though.

BNHA AU Concept: Transmigrator

Midoriya Izuku, a normal - if rather sickly - japanese boy of 15 years old passes away just after finishing the final volume of Plus Ultra! a gritty, pre then post-apocalyptic manga about superheroes staring class 1A as their society crumbled around them following the death of the Symbol of Peace.

The whole thing was pretty bleak, with members of the class dying off pretty regularly until only 12 remained, teamed up with other heroes trying to defeat the big villain, All for One. The ending was a downer though - the heroes were all slain and it was left ambiguous at to if All for One survived that last strike or not.

Then he wakes up in the body of Midoriya Izuku, the background character with whom he, unfortunately, shared a name, right before he was killed by the sludge villain, kick-starting Bakugo Katsuki's whole tragic backstory. Not wanting to be the first person to die twice in one day, he holds on until he's saved by All Might (whom he fanboy's hopelessly about), ends up saving Bakugo Katsuki from the same villain, and getting offer All Might quirk - confirming one of the biggest fan theories of the series!

Well. Looks like he's got a chance to save some of his favourite characters and stop this whole world from ending - pretty lucky his first life gave him a great pain tolerance and total disregard for his own life, huh?

Addams family Aizawa or adams family class 1A au

I love the idea of an Aizawa thats just a little,,, off. His smile too wide, his teeth too straight and square, his eyes never reacting to light, always a little brighter than the ambient light should allow for.

He tends to be given the powerful students, but this year he got something better: the weird ones. The ones like him, touched by something beyond the veil. A boy that sees too much, another with a living shadow, one part machine - unclear where student ends and metal begins, a girl with space in her eyes and gravity at her finger tips -

Just like him. His students.

BNHA AU Concept

Silly BNHA AU where Izuku is two years younger than the main cast and this ruins the whole plot.

To start, Bakugo is fiercely protective of Izuku - he’s quirkless, tiny and sweet and, thankfully for Bakugo’s inferiority complex, not someone hes compaired to being a full 2 years older than the kid. There is no childhood ‘betrayal’, just Bakugo stubbornly making sure Izuku thinks he’s the worlds coolest person.

The slime villain happens without Izuku and All Might’s conversation before hand. He hears Bakugo call Izuku a quirkless dumbass while Izuku sobs and hugs him and All Might has a “aww, sweet!” moment. He files it away.

He ends up teaching Bakugo at UA, mentions the kid who saved him. “Oh yeah, Deku? He’s like 12 and a nightmare. Self preservation of a lemming.” Izuku then proves him right by getting kidnapped by Shigaraki durring the press break in - Izuku had a day off school and wanted to see UA so he walked with Bakugo - and then, when Shigaraki tries to threatern UA with the death of a child, Izuku fucking bites Shigaraki’s finger off and jumps out the window.

His childhood hero was Bakugo. It rubbed off on him a little.

All Might is like “hmm. i think i will have a heart attack now” but ends up giving Izuku his quirk because hes so stupudly heroic there is nothing else he can do. Bakugo is in on it and he visits UA on saturdays to train with All Might. Aizawa is convinced he’s All Might’s bastard child, as is Todoroki. They, somehow, bond over this.

An au where stain is just someone hired by the hero commission to kill heroes who speak out against the hero commission and killing false hero’s is just a cover story

Wait this slaps, I love it. Is Stain an agent, just acting out his cover story? Is he an actual villain the commission hired to do this - do they have leverage over him or is more dead heroes exactly what he wants? Or is he the HPSC's own version of a nomu, constructed for covert assasinations, mindlessly following orders?

I really do like the idea that he was a villain they hired who disliked heroes anyway. Stain thinks he's going to betray the HPSC when they run out of targets to give him, but they already know of Stain's plans and are one step ahead of him.

oooohh!! Imagine they stage a prison break for him after he's captured by Izuku and co, and they tell him to 'do away with the kid'. Stain flips because 'dude what the fuck hes like 15, you dont pay me to kill kids' and the HPSC is like 'ah. is see we have reached an impass' and he has to rip off the armoured collar they gave him because its started to heat up ever so slightly. he throws it to the ground where it pops with a deceptively small explosion, right where his jugular vein would have been.

He then runs to UA in a half-blind panic to do the only thing he can think of - warn the kid. He's already a dead man walking if the HPSC want his head, but that poor kid has a life ahead of him. Nezu, who does not trust the commission as far as he could throw the whole building that housed them, decides to listen before letting All Might punch him into the sun, and is quickly horrified by how everything lines up.

Queue an arc where Stain is pretending to be a sidekick and teachers aid at UA for cover while they try to work out how to keep Izuku safe, all while Izuku is the only student who is like ",,,am I losing my mind or is our new teacher's aid the hero killer???"

notebook #12 has been finished! it was a college-ruled composition book with 100 sheets, and it was filled from June ‘21 to January ‘22. a lot made it in here, and as i look back on the quality of the entries... a lot will not be making it onto tumblr! as with previous posts (i feel like i missed a notebook... ah well), more info contained in the read more,

finally read through the His Dark Materials trilogy by Philip K. Pullman! it was certainly. a trip. as the year went on, a lot of my book log entries just developed into, like, bullet points. and sometimes little comics like this one!

right, okay, so not only was i going through the first stages of afohiko brain-rot with dfohiko verse, but i was also being bombarded with Sports Festival chapters from Anachronism, in a (vain) attempt to lance the afohiko from the muse.

my little sister tried VALIANTLY to get me into hollow knight (she was invested in the speedrunning community, and the Lore), but the most she got me hooked was the Stag Beetles and Broken Legs fic. i also was keeping track of the villain hunt arc (seen bottom right).

three things here: (1) i will always be thirsty for prime torino. he should have more pin-up poses. (2) i like drawing the low polygon animals that the one blog posts! (3) afo is just. a guy.

look! my pokemon! this isn’t really a 100% Dream Team. i would have bulbasaur and rowlet on here. but my sisters and i were having a thought exercise, and so this team was composed. the wooper and zigzagoon are criminals.

now that i am in the midst of obtaining bnha volumes, i am trying to actively use them as reference! i love horikoshi’s tiny low-rendered doodles. they are my friends in simplification.

in all honesty this idea practically writes itself and idk where else to put it,, kinda gonna be in bakugo’s pov

when bakugo first receives the text from half n’ half he almost ignores it,, almost. but because deku’s part of the group chat he knows he’ll have to answer to avoid a load of spam texts to get him to reply

‘it’s about their case.’

huh? what the hell was that supposed to mean? half n’ half could be talking about just about any other- oh.

‘i’ll be there in 20.’ was deku’s reply and he was quick to send in ‘15’ before taking off.

arriving to todoroki’s office, bakugo stops to watch the half n’ half hero lift two very large paper bags up on his desk. now what could that be?

“manga?” he brows furrowed as todoroki pulls out stacks upon stacks of books that began piling up on his desk. the sound of the office door opening and closing was heard. deku apologizes for arriving ‘late’. yeah like two minutes makes a difference

todoroki grabs another book from inside the second bag and lays it down, it’s marked volume four and there are two copies, “take a look at the characters.”

deku grabs the first copy and examined the book and then begins to skim through. he takes a seat in the nearest chair and lets out a deep sigh. “this can’t be real.” the book is tossed back on the desk and deku leans back on his seat. he takes a deep breath, and bakugo isn’t sure if it’s to calm himself down or a sign of relief.

bakugo takes a long look at the copy in his hand. his grip only tightening when he finally takes a good look at the picture.

there sat eren yeager with what seemed to be friends of his. he could vaguely tell the where the other three stood. jean kirstein stood next to annie leonhart, eren appeared to be resting as he sat in the grass area and there behind him was yn, crouching down behind eren with that pretty smile of theirs.

they still seemed to be much younger than when they first disappeared and by the uniforms they all wore, they were soldiers. exactly what war they were training and fighting for none of them were sure.

“you’ve got to be fucking kidding me.” yet another copy of the volume was tossed back onto the desk.

“what sick bastard thinks this is entertaining?” bakugo reaches for the first volume before reading out loud the summary. “.. but the sudden appearance of an immense Titan is about to change everything. what the fuck is that supposed to mean?”

“well I guess we’ll just have to find out then,” the half n’ half hero sighs as he handed deku a copy of the first volume before grabbing one himself.

seeing eren and his friends deal with the invasion of man eating giants was a tough pill to swallow. and when they finally had grown old enough to battle only to have Eren be swallowed whole by a Titan had each hero feeling nauseous.

by the end, shouto flipped through the pages again, “odd. there should be a page stating that the places and events were thought purely through the imagination of the author.”

there was silence. the same thought running through their minds. could this be the work of a quirk? who could possibly have the heart to ruin so many lives for their own entertainment? clearly there was such a person or else their friends would be with them today.

“shouto.. where did you find these?” deku asks while he reaches for the second volume. the half n’ half hero gives them both the name of the bookstore and the cross streets. they’d need to get more heroes behind this case before they do anything rash like storming the bookstore without evidence.

their group of three soon grew and the case was active again as the ‘characters’ matched perfectly with other individuals that had gone missing around the same time period. it seemed that they were continuously contacting investigators on a global scale to reopen cases that were cold so long ago.

soon weeks turn to months and slowly they were getting more volumes released to the public. at least to the public only 22 volumes were available, but the heroes were certain there were more behind closed doors.

with the help of underground heroes, who volunteered to go undercover, they were able to get bits of information as to where the old bookstore keeper was getting his hands on such a rare and unique manga.

“his son? the fucking author is his son?” the conference room filled with heroes listening in on the report made by the undercover hero went silent. bakugo was fuming to say the least. well, wasn’t this a twist? the bastard was right under their noses the whole time.

“kacchan, will you let them finish their report?” deku side glanced him to which bakugo grunted in return. deku nods to the hero to continue. “he says that just a couple of days ago his son was down to the last panel and should be done any day now. all that’s left for it to be officially complete is to bind the pages to the book cover. no word yet on when that volume will be released.”

bakugo scoffs, “why wait for him to release it? as soon as we find out that he binds that shit all together, we take his ass down and take the rest of the volumes with us! we need to start figuring out how to get them all back instead of playing this waiting game he’s got us in!”

“rushing in won’t do us any good when we aren’t aware of how his quirk works. we need to take precautions so that we have an advantage. who knows, maybe binding the pages to the cover solidifies the storyline.” ingenium uttered as he collected the report from the undercover hero. many hummed in agreement and it didn’t help now that bakugo felt singled out.

“we understand the urgency, but we just can’t risk getting caught.” uravity adds as she assisted ingenium, “i can’t imagine the kind of situation he’d put us in for finding out. we don’t want to end up like..” her brows furrowed as she glanced down at a page filled with panels from the battle with the beast titan. “bakugo, i’m sure you understand our point of view and we understand yours, so please hold on.”

he takes a look at the panels, stomach churning at the thought that it could be them next if they weren’t careful. but the idea that he’d have to sit and wait still doesn’t sit right with him. “alright, a weeks time and then we head in. i don’t wanna hear that it’s too early, that’s all i’m willing to wait for.”

“so it’s agreed, we wait no more than a we-” the conference room door opened with a resounding bang, “deku, sir!” deku’s secretary, azumane, rushed in with his fist clutching a phone to his ear. “i’ve just gotten word from detective tsukauchi, he wants shoto, dynamite and you to head to the Narita Medical center immediately! he’s also advised for the others to commence the search warrant on isayama hajime.”

their reactions were to immediately make their way to the double doors, all but one. “kacchan, there’s no time for hesitation here. let’s go!” hesitation wasn’t a word that bakugo wanted to be associated with, not now or ever. of course, he wanted to be there to capture the man who created this mess and bring him to justice. though the thought that he’d be one of the first to see those students back was far more tempting.

he’s waited long enough to see that pretty smile that l/n used to give him. with a small sigh of relief, finally approaching deku who had waited by the double doors of the conference room. “yeah, yeah, i’m coming, don’t get ya panties in a twist!”

maybe, just maybe, things were finally looking up for him.
