The blue lagoon in Iceland is currently closed (for a week) due to a high risk of a volcanic eruption within a kilometer (0.8 miles) of the popular tourist location.
When the gathering magma breaks the earth's crust, anyone visiting the blue lagoon will have (best case scenario) approximately 20 minutes to make it to safety.
If there are people sleeping in the adjacent hotel or gods forbid in the lagoon itself, the worst case scenario is the magma breaking surface beneath the lagoon.
The only truly realistic way to avoid serious casualties here is for the resort, hotel, and lagoon yo remain completely closed until the danger passes.
There are currently icelandic people calling for a 2/1 deal (or cheaper) on blue lagoon tickets for Icelandic people on twitter.
Do Not Go To The Blue Lagoon Until The Danger Has Passed!!
It's a lovely experience but it's absolutely not worth boiling alive or burning to death.

BLUE LAGOON
These underground quarries, where mainly phosphated chalk was mined between 1877 and 1925, consist of a series of adjacent and sometimes communicating mines. The quarry extends over an area of almost 68 hectares. About 40 hectares of it can be reached on foot or by canoe. The rest is completely submerged or filled with chalky slime. This slime, grown in specially designated slime ponds, was used as a phosphorus-limestone amendment in the 1930s-1940s.
So these are quarries dug by man's hand, and not natural caves. Moreover, there is no doubt about their age: the excavation of the galleries, which today cover more than 175 kilometers, dates back to 1877. While similar quarries in the area were used for the extraction of white chalk much earlier, the phosphated chalk that was found here was unsuitable for making lime and too fragile to use as a building material. Only when the first processes of chemical extraction of phosphorus were developed in the mid-19th century did the importance of this chalk for the extraction of phosphorus (used for the manufacture of fertilizers) become clear.
Large parts of the quarry are under water. Depending on the amount of precipitation, the water level can vary considerably. The lime deposits give the water a special blue colour. It is from this that the location derives the name 'Blue Lagoon'.
Visiting this quarry is not without danger. Not only is it pitch dark after a few meters and it is easy to get completely lost, but there is also an acute danger of collapse in several places. Today the complex is managed by a group of volunteers who try to maintain the quarry. Guided tours are organized regularly along the galleries that are still safe.
