#blue growing to be a better person in the first place because he doesn't wanna be the guy who pushed away what's dear to him

I love the headcanon that Blue just reads Red's mind without breaking a sweat because they're so in sync, but i also like reading about how during the fallout of their rivalry, they’re desynchronized, out of balance, and strayed too far from each other’s life that they cannot read one another.
When Red goes missing Blue looks for him in places he thinks he will be but Red’s changed - Red’s not the same timid kid who would forgive him for forgetting to include him in their little games at the play park. Red is a champion, who tore through Team Rocket's hideout and demanded justice and responsibility for those they've wronged. It’s not farfetched to think he wants the same kind of responsibility from Blue for all those years he’s failed to be a friend to him, it’s not so impossible to believe that he’s come to hate what Blue has turned their friendship into. He’s almost certain that Red is denying Blue the gratification of finding him, and well, Blue isn't sure if it makes him sad or angry.
When they reunite it’s all Pokemon battles and flying fists, trying to hurt each other again. Paying each other back for causing them pain. It’s Blue who apologizes, surprisingly, cause while Red stubbornly planted his feet in the freezing mountain, almost begging for time to stop, Blue kept moving forward, kept living life day after the other and he’s grown. So when Blue does it, it is so unexpected that Red is finally awash with the realization that he hasn't been doing any maturing all this time, instead just keeping himself holed up in a mountain and holding onto his grudges, his pain. So he decides to let go of them.
It takes a while for them but they get there, they reconnect. They meet in the middle, Blue rewinds his clock to give Red a chance to catch up, and Red finally leaves his checkpoint in a sprint.
.// may put this in my hnhk fic drafts. I swear at this point im just publishing that fic here in parts lmao.

You had just taken off your dress along with your shoes and plopped down on the bed when your phone rang indicating a facetime call. When you grabbed it from the nightstand, you saw that it was Jack and quickly answered.
"Hi baby!" You excitedly said as his face came into view, but he was simply sporting a pout which had you confused.
"Pookie, is everything okay?" You asked growing concerned since he had yet to say anything.
"Today was just a rough day and it doesn't help that I miss you." He quietly said and a sigh escaped your lips.
"Do you want to talk about it? It might help if you do."
"No, I just wanted to see your beautiful face and make sure my girl was good."
"Well, I'm fine, but my husband isn't and I don't like that."
"It'll be fine, baby. I'm probably making it more of a big deal than it has to be."
"Your feelings are valid, smush. I always tell you that. No need to hide the way you feel."
You were now taking off your jewelry and had propped up your phone in front of you when Jack finally took in the sight of you.
"Is that bra new?"
"It is, do you like it? Rih sent it to me along with a bunch of other things, but I'll save those for when I see you in person." You answered and Jack instantly smiled.
"You should have saved that one. You know how I feel about lace." Jack commented and you noticed that he kept adjusting and you raised your eyebrow.
"Babe?"
"Hmm?"
"You're bricked up right now, aren't you?" You asked while smirking.
"I'm always bricked up around you because my wife is sexy as fuck. I thought that was understood and besides it's been like three weeks since I've been in you."
"Then I think your wife needs to help you with that. I got an idea."
"What is it because the last thing I need to get is blue balls. You about to play with that pretty pussy for me and make me cum by watching you?"
"If that's what my man wants, I'll do it. Hold on a minute."
The bottom drawer of the nightstand contained all of your toys and you immediately opened it to reach in and grabbed your dildo that was a mold made of Jack's that he got for you one Valentines Day.
When you came back in the view of the camera holding it, Jack immediately bit his lip and you could tell he was palming himself through the comforter since you could no longer see his hands.
"Take it out, I wanna watch you. I don't know why you're acting shy around me. This is nothing compared to other things we've done."
"I'm not, I-...."
"Take it out." Jack finally complied and once you saw the precum leaking from the tip, your mouth was watering.
"Much better." You said as Jack was slowly starting to jerk himself off.
"But I need that bra off. And are you going to use the toy I made for you or simply hold it? You know what? Get your vibrator too."
Reaching over once again to the drawer, you took out your pink vibrator happy that you had charged it the night before. Once you came back into Jack's view, you slowly slid your bra off along with the panties that matched it and moved to the top of the bed spreading your legs for Jack to have a full view of you. You could already feel the river forming down below and you took it upon yourself to place the dildo in your mouth to make it wet so it would be easier to insert it.
"Got damn, baby."
"What? I have to make sure it's wet enough so it can go in easier." You responded while laughing.
"I can guarantee you that you probably didn't even need to do that. It's like the damn ocean down there."
"Well I can't help it if my man makes me this wet all the time." You put it back in your mouth and spit began to leak out of the sides falling onto your chest.
"Play with your nipples for me. Spread that shit on them."
"Mm my baby is eager tonight isn't he? But I can do you one better." A smile graced your lips before you brought your left nipple to your mouth and lightly sucked on it making a moan escape from Jack's lips.
You looked back up at Jack after you had switched to the right one and was trying to figure out when he had lost his shirt, but there were more important things to worry about.
You were determined to do whatever your man wanted in order to get him to cum.
The dildo left your mouth with a popping sound and you slowly inserted it letting out a quiet moan.
"Mmm, baby it feels so good."
"That's my good girl. Take that shit."
"Oohh, oh fuckkk."
"Is my good girl going to cum for me?" Jack asked you as you immediately nodded and focused on the task at hand while increasing your pace.
"Use your words, baby. And stop holding back. I wanna hear you."
"Yes."
"Yes, what?"
"Yes, daddy. I'm going to cum for you."
"Put that vibrator on your clit."
You reached with your left hand to where it was and put it on the lowest setting before hearing Jack's voice once again.
"I know your ass didn't just put it on the lowest setting. Turn it up. I want to see those legs shaking."
You complied as you placed your left hand to hold the vibrator on your clit while using the right to keep your dildo going at the same space.
Your eyes were closed, but you opened them to see Jack jerking himself off to your movements and the moans that he was letting out was putting you over the edge.
"Oh shit, baby I'm about to…." You breathlessly said while turning up your vibrator to the highest setting that it would go to.
"Fuck, me too."
Within the next thirty seconds, you squirted all over the sheets and your phone and it took you by surprise since the only time it ever happened, Jack had been the reason for it.
Jack was coming down from his high, but was looking just as surprised as you were because of what just happened.
"Well shit. Look who taught herself how to squirt."
"I.. don't even know what I did differently. But I'm definitely going to try to do it again." You said while taking the dildo out and inserting it into your mouth once again and sucking on it.
"Fuck, I can't wait until that pretty little mouth of yours has my dick in your mouth."
"Technically it already does baby seeing as this is a mold of yours. But I get it. Do you feel better?" You asked while setting the dildo and vibrator to the side.
"Yes, thank you baby."
"You know I'll do anything for you." A smile graced your face as you simply looked at him and he smirked.
"Right back at you, baby."
You couldn't help but to notice that it seemed like Jack wanted to say something else.
"Smush, is something wrong?"
"Do you have one more in you?"
"Hmm, depends. What's next baby?"
"I want you riding it this time."
"I expect a generous tip when I see you in three days."
"You know that you're about to get a lot more than that. You got some Louboutins waiting for you. Be a good girl for me and I just might throw in a Birkin and another Givenchy outfit."
"Let's get to it then."

Hello can i request both iruma and evil cycle iruma asking their crush out if your fine with it
ik this has been so so long but i wanted to write for it, sorry it took me a decade to finally have ideas and write 😞 hehe this was fun, thank you for requesting !! also i changed my writing style a bit ?? (i think)
asking their crush out
iruma / evil cycle! iruma x reader (no prns) • 0.4k
romantic; fluff
[ reader is a demon in iruma's , second hand embarassment in evil cycle! iruma's , personally i think iruma is such a complex character so im sorry if i dont nail him akjshvbs ]
m!ik masterlist | main masterlist
Tumblr media
iruma
iruma has always been embracing whatever position the world puts him in. it has always been that way and he thinks it should stay that way: it is after all the safest way to live without upsetting others. which is also why he was fine with watching you from afar, having only the occasional conversations to pass by the time waiting for the teachers to arrive— or more if luck is on his side and he is blessed to be in the same group with you.
but the blue-haired boy doesn't think he can go on like this.
he blames it on the time spent with you, a tad frustrated that he is starting to lose his cool and stutter more every time you talk. i mean, why is your smile that blinding in the first place?!! and why do you look at him like that, like he deserves to be looked at with so much love? iruma is going to be more in love if this happens.. :(
but, iruma has always been good at embracing things. and that includes the fact that you make his heart flutter.
he asks to walk you home (you think it's sweet of him, since you can spend more time together walking than flying home) and your lips curve into the lopsided grin he's fallen for.
you don't talk along the journey, letting the sound of birds and the shuffling of your shoes to fill the air. soon arriving, you turn to your classmate to thank him when you notice the red his cheeks are flushed with.
cute.
"y/n?"
"yes?"
"i want to be honest with you..—", he purses his lips, "—i've liked you for a long time and uh..u-uh... i'm wondering if...." "if~?", you tilt your head playfully to better look at his face.
startled, he takes a step back. his eyes meet yours and he swears you can hear his heartbeat, immediately covering his face with his hands. "uh i'm- i'm sorry for saying it like this but i can't say it while looking at you...", he takes a peek from behind his hands and continues when you say you don't mind.
"please go out with me!!"
peeling his hands off his face and intertwining your fingers together, you softly smile. "you don't even have to ask."
Tumblr media
evil cycle! iruma
one thing about iruma on an evil cycle is that he gets what he wants. right there and then. which is why the moment he realizes his feelings for you, it took him no seconds for him to stride right towards your seat.
it's a usual evening in class and professor kalego is explaining something on the board when iruma stands. ignoring him, you continue to listen to the lecture when suddenly you feel your hand being gently enveloped with your blue-haired classmate's.
"hey, wanna go out?"
huh?
you lift your head to meet his gaze and the corner of his lips pull up into a small smirk. you don't realize you've been staring at him until something soft makes contact with the back of your hand─ AND IRUMA IS KISSING YOUR HAND??@?&?
a cough interrupts your moment and you feel your whole body go warm from the looks you're getting from your classmates. IN FRONT OF THE WHOLE CLASS TOO? IS HE CRAZY??
pulling him closer by his hand that's holding yours, you whisper shout to his ear in disbelief, "go back to your seat!!"
unphased, iruma turns his face to you and you miscalculated the distance because the next thing you know, your noses are almost brushing and you can already hear your heart bursting. "so that's a yes?"
growing more concious of the stares you're getting, you clench your jaw and roll your eyes in frustration. iruma leans back, not yet letting go of your hand, and excuses himself for interrupting the class. (wild i know, but you have some weird effect on him.)
the class however thinks otherwise as they start hollering and cheering, with professor kalego losing yet another junk of his lifespan from the chaos. wanting to get it over quick, you mumble a quiet yes. and you don't think iruma missed it, not when he closes the distance yet again to press a kiss on your forehead before going back to his place.
you definitely can't focus on the lecture now.

here are my headcanons that clash with the lore [aka ronnie hobb's headcanons he just makes up on the spot me thinks] i have for tcm game characters bc i have writer's block and i need out of it FAST.
danny does not go to university, i'm sorry. i know i know the home gives him a scholarship but he is a blue collar guy. he has to make his own living, he's a hands on guy and he's got COMMON SENSE. no working-class person in the 70s is going to college, they know learning on the job is both sustainable for living (plus he's in a situation where he has to leave the home at 18, so he gotta pay city rent prices to have a roof over his head) and better to learn a trade while getting a paycheck. he was an apprentice since he was 18, and is a year into working as a car mechanic in austin. he does night/weekend classes at the university, probs something in humanities or art. he frequents the student bars when he has his time off, and that is when he meets maria + the gang. he knows leland from fixing his car from time to time, and when danny sees him at a bar one night, hanging out with maria, he knows right away he's asking him to introduce him to her.
leland is NOT the mf that gets the friend group together. this mf has a lot of misogyny to unlearn from growing up in a southern suburb. he took an elective in an art just so he can be in a class with "hot chicks". he doesn't even consider being friends with women at first bc he used to think girls = protential girlfriends/future wives. it wasn't until he found out sonny (the first friend he made, his bff) was close with maria, julie and connie that he warmed up to the idea of all hanging out together. sure... his crush on julie played a factor on him wanting to stay, but being around such open-minded people made him relax and unlearn the shitty traditions he didn't like in the first place. now they're like sisters to him and he lets maria braid his hair when stoned and makes attempt at getting connie out of her shy shell. watching julie from afar, remembering her off-hand remark about not wanting to be in a relationship, keeping his feelings to himself; because he doesn't wanna ruin the bond they all have.
the reason why julie is not wanting to date is because she comes to the realisation of her sexuality. she realises she likes men because, men tend to like her first, and it's easy to love someone who loves you back (typical fire sign move). and she's never picky, she says she doesn't care about looks; it's more the personality. and that is true but, for a guy if he has good style and funny -- she's settled. then she will see a lassie and think "she is the most ethereal thing i've laid eyes on". the intensity of her love for women compared to men hits her overnight. she lets her love for women shine through her platonic relationships; connie, maria and ana are her first priorities (especially connie). she likes sleepovers, having the illusion of living with a s/o while sharing a bed and making breakfast in the morning. she loves showering her friends in compliments, giving them makeovers, taking any excuse to be close to them and show her adoration. her subconscious desire to be in a relationship with a woman lives vicariously through the platonic relationships she has with her feminine peers.
the only person who can see right through it is connie, someone who has her sexuality figured out. she went through the same self-discovery, after all. but loving julie means moving on from her lover who she left behind, so connie is tied at both ends. does she take the risk, find new beginnings, even when there is no concrete proof julie is capable of loving her? or does she keep her promise, return to her lover back home, even if that meant witnessing the promise broken on the other side? what if she found another fate, got married, had kids, kept the feelings hidden. and when she sees how men look at julie, and how boys looked at her past lover, the insecurity prevails. why should they take the risk for her, a singular person, when there is the familiar option lining up to be her husband? *queue Good Luck, Babe! by Chappell Roan*

Hello Mickey! How ya doing pal? (Hope you’re having a swell day)
I wanna ask, what do you think about your nephews Morty and Ferdie? I assume you’re kinda close with you considering well. You’re their uncle and I feel you do fun stuff with them sometimes. And another question is, what’s your current job right now? Do you enjoy it (or do you feel you wanna do something more fun. That you clearly enjoy the most)?
That’s all! (Sorry if it’s too long) see ya later Mickey :)
-Sunny ☀️
Hiya Sunny!
I am havin' a swell day! Thank you for askin'!
What great questions. I would love to answer 'em both.
Oh, I love my nephews Morty and Ferdie. They're just so fun and energetic and every time they come over and visit, I just know that my day is about to be 100 times more interesting. They can sometimes... get into things they shouldn't. But I also was a mischief maker back in the day, so I have no standin' to say anything. In fact, I actually see a lot of myself in them. Just like me, they can go overboard sometimes. But they also have hearts of gold and are usually clever enough to fix it, or at least know when to get help. That's usually when I come in 😆.
I know the boys can sometimes seem as if they are the same person, but they're pretty different. Morty, who tends to dress in reds, is definitely the more rowdy and brave one. He's usually the one findin' the trouble in the first place 🤦. But it comes from a strong drive for life and so much excitement for what the world has to offer. He has such big dreams and hopes and honestly, I hope he goes far. Unfortunately, he doesn't always think through what he does. He tends to run into things head-first and without warning, but he has good instincts that help keep him safe. And a lot of times his spontaneity is just what the situation needs 😉.
Ferdie, the one wearing more blues and sometimes wears glasses, on the other hand, is more shy but is extremely smart and mature for his age. He's usually the one being dragged into trouble by his brother🤷, but I think he enjoys the adventures they go on, just as much as his brother. They help him come out of his shell and be more prepared to face the unknown. He prefers when things are more planned out and can be hesitant to unexpected changes. But it is because he cares about havin' a good future. He was just askin' me about good colleges yesterday and he's not even in high school. He has a very bright future ahead of him and I cannot wait to see where he goes 🌞.
As for your second question,
I'm actually currently workin' as a Detective for the Mouseton Police Department. And honestly, things seem okay so far. I used to have another job, but they weren't treatin' me right and wouldn't let me grow in the ways I wanted to. It was tough movin' from that job as I genuinely thought that it was my dream, and revolved so much of my early life around it. But it wasn't makin' me happy, and I kinda think I misattributed some of the positive experiences I had with my sister, who is still workin' in that field, with my feelin' towards the work. Honestly, it can be tough figurin' out where you belong. And even I still feel like I haven't figured that out yet
Luckily my new job is definitely a step up. For starters, the people I work with are much better. I was already pretty close with Chief O'Hara as he was my neighbor growin' up. He tends to be very supportive and even recommended me for the detective role (even though I think I might be a bit underqualified, I didn't realize how high rank of a position it was 😓). But he says he trusts my skills and convinced the others that it was a good idea. So I guess I better not mess this up. There's so much pressure.
Though I mostly work with the other two detectives. Brick can seem a bit intimidatin' on the outside. He's pretty big. But you'll soon learn that he's neat once you talk to him. If you ask questions 'bout Texas, he'll be your best friend in an instant. Though be prepared to listen to him for hours, haha. Casey on the other hand... Well... He can be a bit of a... challenge sometimes. I think like me, he's also under a lot of pressure, and that causes him to be a bit stubborn and hesitant to get help. He apparently was really strugglin' with cases before Brick and I came into the picture and it probably felt like an attack on his pride when we came to help. But I think he genuinely cares and wants to do a good job. And with the right push, he can do a swell job.
However, it isn't just the people that make this job a step up. I actually think I am enjoyin' the work more. There is just something 'bout investigatin' and solvin' crimes that clicks with me. Every time we get a new case, I don't wanna put it down until I have it all figured out. Maybe O'Hara was onto something when he hired me. And even better yet the work I do is actually helpin' people get justice which is what I really care about. I've always wanted to make the world a better place, and I feel like I'm doin' my part with every sinister scheme I stop and every person I help.
Though, I can't say everything is perfect. While I do enjoy my work and the people I work with. There are quite a few elements of working with the Police Department that... I am not sure how I feel 'bout. It's honestly hard to talk about. I just don't want O'Hara to feel like he made a mistake. But I also want to make sure I'm doin' the right thing.
But hopefully, that answers your questions! 😄 This was pretty long, but I wanted to give you my best answers.
I hope you have a swell rest of your day, Sunny!!!

HELLO i noticed you are a spamblue shipper mm yes this the GOOD shit ok so. i mentioned in a reply that i used to ship this hardcore and i have a ton of old dusty headcanons for their relationship and history together and i wanna hear yours
Oh I'd love to share, thanks for asking!
This is gonna be an incomprehensive unorganized list so. I'm gonna put it under a read more
Also a lot of this stuff I'm kinda just pulling from a fic I'm still trucking through, so go check that out if you'd like, it's long though
anyways
(btw im using he/it for spamton and they/them for blue. another name for blue is cerulean but im just gonna use blue here)
Spamton and blue always Kinda Liked each other, but they'd always been pretty good friends ever since they met
Blue was always nicer to Spamton than the other Addisons; that's what made Spamton like them so much in the first place
The others always just sorta let him entertain them as some funny little inconsequential guy that they let hang around with them, but Blue really did genuinely enjoy Spamton's company
Blue wasn't exactly too much better than the others, though. They prided themselves on being the nice one when being nice isn't exactly the same as being kind. They do grow to be kinder throughout their relationship with Spamton, though
When Spamton does finally fall for them, he completely disregards any faults Blue has and focuses only on the fact that they're nicer to him than they have to be. It's the type that when anything positive happens in its life, even the slightest thing that makes its life feel less awful, it clings to that
After getting feelings for them though Spamton is just absolutely zonked. Like it's gone. The guy is an absolute pathetic loser girlfailure who follows Blue around like a lost puppy
It like. Wants to do something meaningful for them but 1: it absolutely doesn't have the courage to and 2: it doesn't even have the money to try
And Blue is SO generous to him even though he doesn't quite understand why. He wants to swallow his pride and let them spend all their money on him but he ALSO doesn't want to feel like he's taking advantage of their kindness which. he also really wants to do
One of the things Blue does for it is make cookies! Like website cookies. They're an amazing cook too and cookies bring a lot of Addison-specific nutrition so Spamton really can't say no
Blue doesn't even know exactly why they feel like improving their demeanor towards Spamton and they aren't quite exactly the person to look inwards but they do it anyway because that's waht they feel like doing!
Blue realizes their feelings much later on and while they can tell that Spamton isn't Normal about them either they just. Feel so nervous about making a move
When they do Finally date Blue makes every excuse to spoil Spamton with as much love and affection as they can. They feel bad about having gone along with all the teasing and mocking that the other Addisons did, even though they didn't actively participate in it. And Spamton is just happy it got this far
Spamton likes taking Blue out on fun little novelty dates, like bowling or vintage shopping! Blue likes more sophisticated dates, like museums or concerts
And of course. Once Spamton starts getting money he turns the tables on Blue and buys them everything they could possibly want or need and more
Once he's on his way to big shot status, Spamton feels like he has to really prove he loves Blue, not just to Blue, but to himself, so he makes sure to flaunt his accomplishments in front of them. Isn't that what a proper Addison does?
Blue of course is so, so proud of it. They were with Spamton every step of the way and they're glad to see all of its hard work finally pay off
So like they're both in a generally content place at this point. For now
Aaaanyway thanks for liking my stuff! As you can see I am still amidst the vicious throes of this ship so it's nice to find somebody that Understands

AH gotcha! Song Lyric Prompts:
'Cause we all wanna party when the funeral ends Ba ba ba, ba ba ba And we all get together when we bury our friends It's been ten fucking years since I've been seeing your face 'round here And you're walking away And I will die in this place
or alternatively, from the same song:
Well, you can hide a lot about yourself but, honey, what are you gonna do? And you can sleep in a coffin, but the past ain't through with you 'Cause we are all a bunch of liars, tell me, baby, who do you wanna be? And we are all about to sell it, 'cause it's tragic with a capital T

Working Title: up until 3am Fandom Tags: Boom! Comics Power Rangers; Mighty Morphin Power Rangers; Go Go Power Rangers. Relationship Tags: Eugene Skullovitch/Billy Cranston; Jason Lee Scott/Farkas Bulkmeier; to be decided. Character Tags: Matt Cook; Farkas Bulkmeier; Eugene Skullovitch; Violet Arias; Hailey; Tommy Oliver. Additional Tags: Meet-Ugly; Alternate Universe - Role Reversal; Multiverse/Grid Theory. Summary: In another dimension, somewhere in the vast multiverse, the teenagers that Zordon chose to fight Rita Repulsa had a little more attitude. This was not the best Color combination Zordon had ever had, but then again, he supposed, as long as it worked...? Orange, Purple, and Green. All chaos colors, all unstable, all of them very flawed and very beneficial in their turns. Blue and Black. It was rare to get these colors to prefer and tend to the female-presenting Rangers, but Zordon was grateful and didn't question the Power in this. This is not to say that he does not question the Power in its choices going forward with these teenagers that are so different from the ones chosen so often on different plains of existence. Here, there is no Ranger Station headed by Bulk and Skull in a rivalry with an entitled rich kid. These two are not the leaders--this group doesn't have a singular hand at the helm, but a group of loners that will put aside their differences to protect the Earth--but they are powerful in their own right. They have scars from pasts that keep trying to drag them down, down, down once Rita realizes there's really something interesting in messing with people who are a different kind of breed than normal Rangers; Purple and Orange are devastatingly rare for a reason. Here, there was no end of all things when Tommy Oliver became Lord Drakkon, death meeting Violet and Matt so young, so they don't get put in coffins and they find a way to become the better people they want to see in the world. Hailey doesn't grow old and scarred and powerful in her own right leading scores of freedom fighters. Oddly, Matt still breaks away from the friends he's had for years, the girl he thought he might come to love, but because he ends up the liar after one of them is stolen when his back is turned and it's his opposite Orange that sees the truth at first glance when Green was supposed to be so powerful--powerful enough to become a great warrior, but Matt has to become better as a person first. Oddly, it's Violet's Blue and Hailey's Black that draw them to Tommy Oliver trying to stay a loner, stay to himself. Here, he is no super fighter that draws Rita's attention and finds friendship with Jason's group after the fallout of mind control. Here, Tommy finds friendship in Hailey handing him something to keep him mellow in the bathroom stalls behind the football field. Here, Tommy finds friendship in Violet's quiet authority when they're paired up often in school or she helps him and Hailey get rid of the smell on their clothes with rolling eyes. So much is different. So much is better.  It's kind of tragic what an anomaly among dimensions they are.

Consider this: slightly chubby office worker bucky and lean, muscular steve who has a huge crush on him.
They work in the same department so Steve is always sneaking him food and rubbing his belly for him. Poor bucky keeps outgrowing his shirts and his pants barely go over his ass anymore but he doesn't wanna stop.
Bucky finally has to work from home when he gets too big for his office chair and his belly is almost constantly hanging out. All thanks to steve, of course.
Hello! I'm sorry for only answering this now, buuuuut this ask made me think of a very specific scenario for some reason? So, I hope you'll enjoy reading this... imagine? ficlet? this is neither edited nor proofread, so I apologize for any mistakes
Alright, I immediately jumped to Bucky working from home because he's outgrown his office chair. Maybe he hit the weight limit, maybe he's just gotten too wide to comfortably fit between the arm rests. Maybe he’s a gainer in this? In any case, he applies to work from home, and they grant him the request (anything to facilitate the kink, right? :D)
Rating: Mature Words: 1638 Relationship: James "Bucky" Barnes/Steve Rogers Additional Tags: Stuffing, Belly Kink, nicknames (pig), allusions to masturbation, mutual pining, maybe slight dub-con (Bucky doesn't know he's unmuted and Steve doesn't tell him right away)
The only requirement is that he has to be "on call" the entire workday. So, the next week on Monday Bucky sits down at his desk at home and logs in to the program his company makes him use for those calls.
And of course Steve picks up. The guy Bucky has had a not so subtle crush on since basically his first day. The blue eyed, blond haired subject of all of Bucky’s dreams, who is also the guy that Bucky has been eating his weight in junk over, because Steve keeps bringing in baked goods and Bucky can never say no to Steve.
On the other end of the call Steve is nervously chewing on his pencil until he finally hears Bucky’s warm voice say “Good morning.” A huge grin appears on his face without him wanting it to, but this is Bucky. So, of course he’s grinning like a maniac.
Bucky is just… Steve had tried to explain it to Nat once, but all he’d gotten out was a stupid “wow”, while grinning the same way he was right now. So, maybe he had a bit of an office crush, it’s normal when you spend 8h a day together, right? Bucky’s video feed is off and Steve is glad he didn’t stupidly turn his own camera on. He was debating it while he waited for Bucky’s call.
“So, do I just do my work, while I stay on this call or…?” Bucky asks when Steve didn’t respond. Steve scrambles out of his daydreams and nods. Then he remembers to actually say “Yes.”
“Alright,” was all that Bucky said and then the little red mute symbol pops up. Steve groans and rubs his hands over his face to get rid of that stupid smile.
“What’s up?” Bucky chimes back in, when Steve yelps in surprise, he adds, “you didn’t mute yourself. I could hear you… being annoyed, I think.”
“Sorry, Mondays.”
“Yeah,” Steve hears something crunching, “though my day has actually been pretty good so far.”
“Are you eating breakfast right now?” Steve looks at the clock—9:03 am.
“Nah, post-breakfast snack. I was craving something crunchy like those pig's ears you brought in on Friday.”
“That just sounds disgusting. Just call it a palm heart or a palmier.” Steve said the name of the pastry in a French accent in an effort to make Bucky laugh and when he did, his heart fluttered with a burst of warmth.
“Well, I’m having some cereal to make up for not having any pastries around.”
“Some?” Steve asked. He sobered quickly at the mention of what Bucky was actually eating, he hated how badly he was hiding his excitement at hearing what Bucky was eating. He’d been “subtly” pushing food on him since Bucky had first started working at the office. Steve doesn’t know a lot about flirting, but providing food seemed like a natural place to start.
Except he’s been stuck there for close to a year now. Every day he’d promise himself to finally ask Bucky out when he brings him one of the pastries, he brought in from that bakery on his way to the office, but when he’s actually looking at Bucky’s face, that lights up when he sees the sugary treat, Steve can never work up the courage and just slinks back to his own desk. And now Bucky wasn’t even in the office anymore.
Because you’ve fattened him up too much, a traitorous voice whispers in the back of Steve’s mind. It not like Steve was forcing Bucky to eat what he brought in, but all those treats right there in the break room surely weren’t helping with Bucky’s expanding waistline. Or those lunches they started taking together, where Steve always suggested they go out to eat instead of sharing a packed lunch in the break room. So, yeah, Steve wasn’t really at fault. Then why did he feel so goddamned proud whenever he saw Bucky’s shirts getting too small and the armrests on his chair digging into his plush sides?
Steve snaps back to reality when Bucky starts talking again.
“Just a bowl-full. Well, this is my second bowl, but cereal is pretty much mostly air, right?” They talk (argue) about what’s the best cereal after that, then what Bucky had for breakfast and then they somehow spend the entire morning talking like Bucky was still in the office and not all the way across town. Bucky refills his bowl twice before lunch rolls around at noon.
“Well, I’ll see you after lunch.” Steve reluctantly leaves his desk.
“I’ll be here!” Bucky calls before Steve takes of his headphones and heads into the breakroom to scarf down his lunch. He knows Bucky will probably only get back on the call once he has to work, but some small part of Steve hopes that if he eats fast enough he’ll get to spend at least part of his break chatting with Bucky.
When he makes his way back to his desk, Steve pops his headphones back on, plops down on his chair and immediately freezes at what he’s hearing. Bucky isn’t muted. Steve is listening to Bucky eat some kind of pasta dish, a very saucy pasta dish from the noises he can hear every time Bucky takes a bite and sucks the spaghettis he missed into his mouth. This is Steve’s personal hell, he thinks, it can’t get any worse than this.
Steve is just about to tell Bucky he’s unmuted when he hears him say, unmistakably, “Fucking pig.” It can get worse.
“Such a fat fucking pig.” Bucky muffles his moan with another mouthful of food. He must be close to finishing his food Steve thinks, then he blushes at realising he knows what Bucky sounds like when he’s getting full.
Bucky’s headphones must be lying on the desk, because they pick up the slide of skin on skin perfectly and Steve leans closer to his monitor even though there isn’t an image. He presses his hands over his headphones to make sure he hears all the little sounds Bucky is making and then he jolts back when Bucky burps loudly.
Steve’s eyes scan the office to make sure no one saw him jumping around on his chair like a scaredy cat, but no one is around. No one is around to see Steve listen very intently to his co-worker eating lunch. Stuffing himself.— Brain.Steve scolds himself, but then Bucky moans again and Steve can’t help but scoot his chair closer. One, to hide his growing erection and two, because logic has left his brain and he needs to get closer to hear better apparently. Steve turns up the volume and then takes his headphones off to make sure it’s no so loud that anyone walking by could hear the sound.
“Fuck, so good,” Bucky groans and Steve can hear his cutlery cluttering onto the desk. He can hear clothes rustling and suddenly the sound of Bucky rubbing his hands over the taut skin of his belly is back. It overtakes the connection for a long moment, that and Bucky’s shallow breathing.
“Best penne and pizza? Yeah, I can believe that.” Steve can hear Bucky’s chair groaning under him. Three suffering clicks from the chair and another pained belch from Bucky.
“If you keep eating like this you’re gonna get fat, Barnes.” Bucky chuckles to himself, “well, fatter.” Bucky exhales heavily, Steve can hear him shift again and his breathing gets heavier.
“Only thing missing is dessert. That’d make a real glutton outta me, not just overeating at lunch, but eating more sugar after,” Steve hears the familiar sound of Bucky popping his button to get comfortable, but Bucky doesn’t stop there, Steve hears the zipper being pulled down too. Steve’s heart skips a beat. Is he gonna—
“Get some feeder to bring it to me, some rich chocolate cake. No, ah, those little cake pops, that— that Steve brought in.” Steve holds his breath when he hears his own name in Bucky’s voice, the emphasis Bucky puts on his name.
“Steve—” He hears a bottle cap being snapped open. Ok, nope, this is too far, Steve decides and reaches for the mouse.
“Oh, my God, Bucky. You’re unmuted!” Steve just about shouts into the microphone. He immediately hears something clatter to the floor and then Bucky swearing.
“Fuck, I’m so sorry. I was just— This isn’t what it looks like. I’m— I was— How long were you listening?” The tips of Steve’s ears are burning and the blush is working it’s way down over Steve’s face.
“A few— just a bit. You said my name.” Steve adds, hopeful, even though Bucky was probably more worried about his co-worker almost catching him jerking off. Listening to him jerk off.
“Great, are we going straight to HR or is tomorrow fine?” Bucky asked resigned.
“How about dinner?” Steve didn’t know where he plucked the courage from, but when Bucky didn’t answer right away whatever ounce of courage had possessed him left just as quickly.
“I’m sorry—"
“No. No, yeah, that’s fine. Great! That sounds good.” Bucky floundered a bit but Steve couldn’t wipe that grin of his face again.
“Tonight?” Bucky added.
“It’s a date.”

Sam and Bucky dance to this song after having to take refuge in a safe house during a particularly high stakes mission. Theres a record player and Sam makes this necessary senior citizen taunts when he catches Bucky's frequent glances towards where it sits on the wooden shelf. Eventually, Sam walls over to fiddle with it because Bucky insists on faking disinterest, but Sam really wants to see him being not-so-boring for once. It was rare to see the other man take interests in his surroundings, barring the hyperawareness that he had for every environment he found himself in.
Sam could almost imagine Bucky's robo-brain whirring to calculate all the exits, people, and vantage points for any possible threat. He never seemed to fully relax. Even sitting in a chair, he sat stiffly as if he was ready to leap out at at any moment. Sam could understand. He wasn't brainwashed and weaponized for 70 years, sure. But he has seen war and death. Things he'd rather forget. And he's felt fear. The initial fear of the thousand foot free falls, the fear of the police and the banks, and the fear of losing himself in it all. So, Sam gets the mental burden and understands how hard it is to leave once you're in.
So, he fiddles with the record player and pretends not to know how to work it. There's no other records visible, but luckily one is still in place. Bucky would eventually get irritated and put everything into place because he knows what Sam is doing. And he knows that Sam knows. Because Sam knows everything. Bucky assumes this from the amount of time the other man spends talking. So, he puts the record on like old times and ignores the lump trying to force its way up and the memories that resurface. Steve-
"You're lucky, man. Etta James, and a classic at that, talk about a two for one. Looks like our luck it starting to turn around, CP30," Sam smile toothily and Bucky wants to do do something to that gap in his teeth. He doesn't quite know what that is yet. Maybe punch it because Sam knows he doesn't understand that obvious reference. But Sam's smile soften to a close, and the corners curl at the edges as his head begins to sway with the notes. Like silk curtains, his eyes slip close in simple pleasure as if he was settling himself into the music.
Bucky watches and feels awkward. At some point, in the past, he would know what to do in the situation. He would know what to do with the violins and the soulful tones curling words of longing into the air. And tired fulfillment. Maybe, he would know what to do with Sam but he doubts it. Or at least how to...be himself. Maybe then they wouldn't argue for once. Sam opens his eyes and looks over to see Bucky who stood, stone faced and deep in thought. The focus of his hooded stare was intense and Sam scoffed. The other man was being broody again.
"Are you even listening to the music or did you zone out again?" He shifts, slightly elbowing his companion and Bucky blinks, his thoughts shifting back to the present.
"You started talking, I couldn't help myself," Bucky quips and Sam let's out a soft scoft that becomes a short laugh. Bucky feels his own lips twitch.
"You gotta relax, man. You could beat a piñata with the stick you have up your ass," Sam shakes his head. That wide tooth smile is back but this time its less cocky and a little more warm. Bucky rolls his eyes and looks away. He does that a lot. At least he understood the reference this time.
Sam sighs and stops the music. He replaces the needle at the original point and let's it go. After a few seconds of crackling silence, the song fills the room again. Sam slaps the back of his hand gently against Bucky's chest and steps back with a mischievous grin on his face.
"Wanna dance, old man?"
Bucky gently freezes in shock but Sam catches it because he expected it, really. Its why he asked in the first place. He wants to shake up that tightly wound exposure that Bucky has at all times. And he was bored. Bucky was not a talkative person and their current predicament left them without many sources for entertainment. It'd been hours since they arrived, yet Sam was feeling the time pass under his skin like an itch. He was exhausted and body weary, but it was better to stay awake so he could orient to the new time zone. As a result, he couldn't help but pester the other man.
"No."
Sam just kept looking at him. His gaze was sleepy, but a twinkle of the earlier mischief still shined through. Similarly, his skin reflected the warmth of the sun as it clung to the early evening and seeped through the windows. It was lucky that they got to be above ground this time.
The staring lasted a long moment. Like it always did. Then Sam shrugged.
"I know dancing may not be a particular talent of yours-" but before he could finish, Bucky was in his space and the rest of Sam's sentenced disappeared with some of his bravado. Bucky was fast and his sudden closeness wasn't expected given the man's reservations a second ago. The sudden adrenaline that had sparked through Sam's started to fade too. He wasn't scared of his companion, but the man's behavior was largely still a mystery to Sam which meant that sometimes he was caught off-guard.
Bucky raised his right hand out, brow arched expectantly, and Sam took it with caution. The man's other hand rose to hover a few inches above Sam's hip, and it took a few moments before he realized Bucky was waiting for permission. His cheeks warmed and he hoped his complexion made it less obvious. He gently guided the metal hand until Bucky settled it on the jut of his hip, the surface cool and smooth under his soft hold.
"Aren't you a gentleman? Thats that old-school chivalry," Sam teased. Bucky pulled their bodies closer and smirked wryly.
"I aim to please." A new song had started and Bucky briefly tore his attention from the heat he felt spreading along his front. He hadn't danced in a long time. Not like this.
The current song featured a masculine husk crooning affections for the listener. It was accompanied by the distinct, steady tempo of a piano. Bucky felt his body catch the music, the way he'd been taught, quickly adjusting to an appropriate rhythm. Sam followed without much of a pause, finally starting to settle into the feelings of sharing this foreign intimacy with the familiar stranger who was holding him so damn gently. Even so, Bucky gripped him firmly like he'd catch Sam if he even thought about falling.
It was...nice. Nicer than Sam (or either of them, really) had expected. He hadn't been held in who knows how long. He was too busy and had mostly outgrown flings, but it wouldn't be fair to a potential partner if he randomly left on long missions that required little to no contact with those who didn't have the clearance. But that was kind of an excuse. Since everything that had happened, Sam hasn't much felt like having others in his space. He was a social person and owned that, sure. But it was hard to open up authentically as much as he teased Bucky about his tendency to isolate himself. He tries to take the advice he regularly gives to the veterans he takes under his wing. Its enough to sustain his close relationships, including whatever he has going on with One Armed Wonder, but he has little energy to offer anyone else. He has to remind himself that thats okay.
Without thinking, Sam realized he had sunk his head into the crook of Bucky's shoulder. He had started to drift, still following the gentle sways of his partner's body like a boat welcoming the gentle rocking of small waves after a storm. Bucky hadn't said anything, luckily, so Sam remains in his position and enjoys the comforting sounds of soul that has wrapped around them.
He had finally put Bucky onto some real good conditioner after growing sick of the greasy tresses the man sported as the Winter Soldier. No judgement. Its hard to have a solid hair care routine as an international assassin for magic super Nazis. But now, it smelled like honeyed coconuts instead of the scentless, dollar brands he used to buy at random. Even though Bucky's hair was shorter, Sam still caught wiffs of it near his neck. It was more noticeable this close given the man's lack of cologne.
Bucky had noticed earlier when Sam's head dipped into his shoulder. Shortly after, he though he had heard soft snores, but the man's body had otherwise remained upright and solid like usual. He had continued to follow the pattern they'd set, so Bucky had just shifted his hand to his partner's lower back to provide support and kept their pace steady. Otherwise, he lost himself in the heat of Sam's hand and the confusing stillness that had settled in his chest. He felt...anchored. But that was Sam. He was strong and steady, and reliable, but just as capable of sinking as anyone else without the support he inarguable deserved. The support Bucky tried to provide.
Steve was gone now. He'd left the both of them to figure out the aftermath of everything that had happened. Bucky wondered if it hurt Sam like it hurt for him. He didn't blame his Steve; couldn't begrudge him that act of selfishness after all they'd been through. Without Rogers' strong presence between them, they had been left to scramble in the gap and reshape it for two. Sam had his family and Bucky had his therapist, but nobody could understand the them as much as the other, as different as they are. So here they are, slow dancing in a safehouse Rhodes had been generous enough to lend them on short notice. He was amicable towards Bucky, but the generosity was really for Sam. Bucky's neck itched, likely with dried sweat, and he sighed internally. He needed a shower.
The man worked his hand against Sam's lower back instinctually and the other man responds with a questioning hum tinged with sleepiness. Bucky doesnt have an answer so they continue in silence. The song had changed. It was a woman again. She was singing the Blues, if Bucky guessed correctly. He's been picking up more of the music Sam liked. It could be relaxing but full-bodied one moment or rich and thrilling the next.
So far, he has only worked his way up the mid-80s. Sam jokesthat his sensitive hearing isnt prepared for the young and hip tastes that dominate the charts, but he'll still sneak recent artists into his recommendations so Bucky isnt completely "out of the loop." Like always, Bucky would just roll his eyes, but now and again he closes them and try to imagine what Sam felt when listened to the music. Wonders at the connections the man shares with the melodies, and the histories curved into the lyrics. Some things, he couldn't ever understand, even if he tries. So, other times, he just listens.
Now, he's curled over his partner's slightly shorter stature, nose brushing the other man's temple. Sam was not a small man. He was built like a brick house. His upper body was strong, but his lower half was thick with muscle and padded by soft curves of flesh. Probably because he only does legs. Meanwhile, Bucky's own body is near the opposite: wide, sturdy chest that tapers to a firm waist and steady, straight legs. They contrast nicely, Bucky thinks. Filling up the spaces the other doesn't. For two people of their size, they still manag to fit snugly with little space between their bodies. Any closer, and Bucky isn't sure how he'd handle the proximity. He feels lulled into the calmness of the evening that had unexpectedly crept up on them in the quiet of everything around them, save for the music.
The two danced a bit longer, but eventually Sam's body grew too weary after the lack of sleep. With hesitancy, they quietly parted after the final notes of the song slipped from the record player. Bucky turns stopped the music while Sam flops into the nearby couch. His growing exhaustion does not stop him from throwing a smirk Bucky's way which the man met with his regular deadpan stare.
"Not bad. Not a single hip replacement necessary. I'd say thats a success for two old men." Sam quipped. Bucky stayed silent.
"You're not old," he finally said. He hadn't moved from his spot by the record player.
"Hmmm. Well, compared to you, 42 isn't that old." Sam lets his eyes close again but Bucky clears his throat, causing one of them to open in question.
"There's a bedroom upstairs," he explains carefully. They've been on the move for some time now with little time for real rest. If Sam was going to finally sleep then it should be in a real bed, at least.
Sam lets out out a quick laugh, "if you think you can butter me up with a dance-"
Bucky cuts off his teasing with a quick glare. If there was ever a moment being the Winter Soldier has served him, it was now. Otherwise, the heat he could feel trying to redden his ears would send Sam into a fit of hysterics.
"I did a perimeter check when we arrived. There's three bedrooms upstairs. All of them have en-suites bathrooms so take your choice," Bucky grumbles out, avoiding eye contact with his counterpart. The earlier stillness he had felt was slowly disappearing now that they were interacting again. His nerves were more taxed than before. He'll analyze that later. Maybe with his therapist, but she was kind of petty, so maybe not.
Sam's teasing smirk has settled into something a little more kind as he rises frim his seat and crosses the room to where Bucky stands. He roughly claps the other man's arm a couple of times before settling the familiar weight of his hand at the ball of Bucky's shoulder.
"I'm just messing with you, man. Thanks though. That couch would do my back in after being thrown by that explosion. Luckily, you were there to provide some cushioning," he says with that toothy smile. Before Bucky can respond, Sam bids him goodnight and slowly makes his way upstairs. Bucky watches him go, dry-mouthed and slightly confused. Once Sam has completely disappeared from view, Bucky takes in his surroundings and feels the emptiness of the room without Wilson's presence.
He'll do one more perimeter check then turn in for the night. Even he can feel the pullings of sleep. Maybe tonight, he'll dream about dancing.

45. "Do I even wanna know?" for Tala and Mathilda (because I'm interested in seeing your version of their friendship when she's with or moving towards being with Spencer) Or if that line doesn't work, either of the others will do as long as it has those two :)
Title: Do I even want to know? Pairing: Sergei Petrov and Mathilda Alster romantically, Yuriy Ivanov and Mathilda Alster platonically. Notice: Written from Yuriy´s point of view. Mostly. Also, I haven't yet read the new manga so some of my headcanons for him might be off, aged or not canon. Also, I kept writing and adding to this for ages, and feel it's a bit of a mess. Hopefully, it shows some emotion that I meant for it to show. Not sure if I will post this anywhere else hm...
Yuriy has mastered the art of ignoring others' eyes on him. Easily walking by as if he's clueless of their attention on him. Even if the fact that they were staring was something he noticed before the person themselves knew their eyes were trailing him.
Observant as he is.
During Yuriy´s early childhood, he’d get looks of hatred and disgust as he lived, or barely survived, in the streets. Wearing old and tattered clothes, pale skin almost grey because of malnutrition, and blue eyes desperately searching for help as passerbys continued to choose not to see him. At times, the hatred in strangers´ eyes was better than being ignored. When they pretended not to see the misery Yuriy was in he ended up feeling like he was already dead.
Soon, Yuriy learned of another kind of fear. The fear that came from those who were threatened by his skill in the bey dish, fear because of the harsh fates waiting for them if they lost to him in the days of the Abbey. Once that first child lost terribly to Yuriy, and was never seen again, his peers started to respect him. Respect born from fear.
As Yuriy and his brothers were manipulated and tricked to threaten the safety of the world, he was looked on as both a hero and a monster. A hero who´d give Russia the top spot in Beyblade again. And as something a little less than human, perhaps closer to a cyborg, leading the world towards its demise while being seemingly void of much emotion. Perhaps only rivaled by how power hungry Kai had gotten together with Black Dranzer. Or even by Boris after that match against Rei. Boris had been Balkov´s triumph card. The man is still recovering from the lack of love he got from a young age, and to learn to handle his growing emotions just as his rage.
Today the world knows how all of it ended, and who to thank for their safety and freedom: the Bladebreakers.
After the Demolition Boys´ loss, people started to look at them with yet a new set of eyes. The eyes of those who viewed them as victims of manipulation, of harsh childhoods. Often with pity. It never suited Yuriy. Being a victim. Rather, he aimed for them to be seen as young, free and brave men redeeming themselves and growing into something better. Growing into the people they want to be now when they have a real shot at it.
Survivors.
Today, Yuriy is well trained in observing strangers and deciding whether or not they´re sincere when approaching his team. If they truly want to get to know them, or if they want something from them. Regretfully the Russians often decide it's safer to assume people are out to hurt them than blindly letting strangers into their lives.
It´s a snowy and cold day in Moscow, Russia. The air is crisp, cold and dry. Chilling to the bone. A good winter's day, with a clear blue sky telling of an even colder night ahead. Probably with stars. The streets are busy with people. Families, couples, children playing around. At a corner of a smaller street a coffee shop recently opened, carrying a foreign brand of coffee to Russia.
To the untrained eye Yuriy´s pale face appears indifferent as he thanks the young woman accompanying him for holding the door open. He's carrying some of the things they bought today. Books. Clothes. Some new toys for his pet dog. However, even if he might look like he'd rather be somewhere else, his eyes tell of a new kind of warmth as he looks at his female companion. An attentiveness few earn from him.
Yuriy´s presence has stirred people to life it seems. Staff greets him with almost spooked expressions and “Hi!”s. They must be newly hired, since the shop has just been around for a few weeks. It instantly sours his mood, as he much prefers workers to treat him like any other customer. From that point Yuriy makes sure it seems like he pays little attention to the people around them, but only after he shows his appreciation with a slight nod of his head. There´s this middle ground he has found as of late. Looking strangers in the eye as they gawk at him while fighting nerves. Some are his fans, and they pay a bit of his paycheck through watching his matches. Supporting him and his family. No matter how Yuriy looks at it, his fans matter, they all do in beyblading. Not all of them are stalkers, or want to hurt him or those closest to him. Even if it is hard to remember that sometimes.
The woman with him takes the lead to a small two-seater table at the back corner of the shop. Fairly isolated, yet with a view towards the street outside. She's always considerate like that. Sitting down with his back against the wall and a good view over the coffee shop, Yuriy´s eyes settle at the woman in front of him. The scent of sweet fruits washes over him. Nothing too overpowering. She takes off her coat, observant eyes darting around the place as she too notices the eyes on them. Unlike Yuriy, she can’t hide her discomfort. Yuriy has already deemed the room safe. The usual quick sweep of the eyes he does every time he arrives somewhere, especially somewhere new. Checking where the exits are, if there’s anyone suspicious around. Old habits are hard to break, and this one he won't try to: it has saved him before. Yuriy lets out a soft sigh as he allows himself to relax in his chair. Body grows heavier as he sinks into his seat. Knees falling apart ever so slightly. The only threat in this room seems to be awed struck fans, and those he can handle. At least well enough to make his friend enjoy their short coffee break.
Although Yuriy appears relaxed, his body language erects a barrier between his safe bubble with his friend and the people around them. Nothing about Yuriy is inviting. He leaves no room for strangers to think it's suitable for a quick chat or to ask about a signature: his focus is on his company. The girl in front of him tries to hide the fact that the attention from strangers gets to her, and Yuriy can´t help but imagine what the fans around them think as they see how she squirms in her seat. How they draw the wrong conclusions. The Russian offers her a hint of a smile in an attempt at making her feel more comfortable. If her attention is on him, Yuriy knows she´ll be able to relax and enjoy herself as well.
Ever since his brother started dating her, no one has seemed to want to accept their relationship for what it is. At first, not even Yuriy. The girl in the chair across from Yuriy is called Mathilda Alster. A young woman with a petite frame, big eyes and soft short pink hair. She is still red in the cheeks from the cold outside. Mathilda holds the hot cocoa she ordered tightly in both of her hands as if her fingers would turn into ice if she didn’t. That, or, it´s another sign of her nerves. Yuriy frowns slightly at the sight. Mathilda has been with them in Russia for over a week, and it seems like even the thick clothes he and his brothers helped her get doesn’t keep her warm enough out in the dry cold. It's the major reason why the two of them ended up shopping for clothes together.
Mathilda can't continue to wear her boyfriend´s shirts and hoodies once she gets cold. It works at their home, but not out and about, as most clothes that's supposed to end by the hips reach her mid-thighs or lower. Every borrowed t-shirt ends up a dress.
And Yuriy can't have her get sick.
”...I don’t really go to these kinds of places often, so it’s making them excited.” Yuriy says flatly, talking about the other people who keep stealing glances at them.
The fans are watching from a respectable distance so far, luckily. Yuriy is a very well-known face in Russia but he doesn't doubt people have realized just who is with him. The red haired man crosses a leg over the other and sips at his coffee, adding a bit of milk after a moment as he finds it just a bit too bitter for his liking. Something his teammates surely would judge him for. They always have their coffee black, black as their souls, as Boris says. A part of Yuriy regrets going to a crowded coffee shop during daytime. He loves coffee, but he´d normally have gotten it on the go or brewed it himself at home. However, Mathilda wanted to go for a snack after they were done with what they needed to do in town... so here they are. Not like Yuriy could deny her that when she looked so hopeful, so eager to spend just a little bit of more time together. Without really demanding anything but some of his time and company.
Before they set out this morning Mathilda had told Yuriy she'd keep him company, and that she had something she wanted to tell him. A secret. It made Yuriy curious. Mathilda might be someone who’d never tell someone else´s secret but she wouldn’t be able to hide that she is in fact, hiding something.
”So, you said earlier that there was something on your mind.” Yuriy asks at last.
Usually, the two of them have these kinds of conversations back at home. During Mathilda´s stays with them it has become a habit to gather around the kitchen table, having tea or coffee with something sweet and just talk. Even if she could just lock herself up in his brother's room and spend all the time with him, Mathilda put effort into getting to know all of them better. Never once voicing she thought their lifestyles were odd, but asking if she could help out with meals and chores while she lived with them. After a few days, they realized that all of them had breakfast, lunch and dinner together at the same hours a day. Even if their work, school, or individual practises were scheduled differently. Mathilda had observed, and made a good schedule that´d suit their hectic life-style. Before that, it had mainly been Sergei and Yuriy who were responsible for any home cooked meal. This change resulted in Yuriy and Mathilda growing closer, spending more time together, and learning each other's habits and likes and dislikes.
Today Mathilda was a little bit too eager to help Yuriy with his errands. She seemed almost anxious to get away from the three other men as she spoke with him in a low voice in the hallway. Asking if she could come with. Mathilda would often be content staying back reading when her boyfriend was at his part time job, or hanging out with whoever was at home, but Yuriy didn´t mind that she wanted his company. He has come to enjoy hers, and found the way she seemed to want to rely on him quite endearing.
However, he's certain whatever she's trying so hard to keep a secret has something to do with her boyfriend. It had left him feeling a bit uneasy for a while, as he's concerned it´d be something negative. Yuriy might not be able to admit it yet but he would miss her if Mathilda ever broke up with his friend. His thoughts straying to if it would work staying in touch even if it happened.
Mathilda´s cheeks end up getting a bit redder at Yuriy´s question. Her embarrassment and shyness is always refreshing, especially since it has never stopped her from doing what she wants in the end.
Leaning his chin in the palm of his hand, Yuriy leans forward over the table. Elbow resting just at the edge. ”Do I … really want to know?” Yuriy asks at last, the corner of his lips turning upward in a smirk.
Judging by Mathilda´s expression this won't be about a break up.
Even if Yuriy´d consider Mathilda to be something like an addition to his family by now, it wasn't always that way. It was something that happened gradually over time, until she was included with no questions asked.
Yuriy had learned to be observant from a very young age. It didn’t take long for the captain of the Russian team to notice that someone was getting uncomfortably close to the tight, sturdy and often very solid barrier of safety he had erected around his team. The intruder was that of a young woman, a woman he knew almost nothing about, during a beyblade tournament where their teams were rivals. Every team was the enemy in a sense.
Yuriy´s eyes soon followed Mathilda every time she was around, looking for any signs of ill intent while a small lump of anxiety grew in his chest. That lump grew in size as he realized she had been around for much longer than he had known. Rude as he sometimes can be, he genuinely decided it must have been because of her lack of presence that he at first didn’t take notice of her. She was always in the background, quiet and didn't take up much space. Not an opponent he´d have to worry about in the dish, but if he was going to be fair, his focus had been on other players.
Eventually he was informed about her, and that they had actually been in the same tournament once before. Alongside the fact that her team had too been victims of greedy and manipulative adults.
As Yuriy continued to observe Mathilda, he noted yet again that Mathilda was neither tall nor had a strong build. Her body, and eyes, showed her emotions as if she was an open book for everyone to read. He also realized that Mathilda was always observing too. Always conscious, self-conscious. With a build like that, and emotions so easy to read, Yuriy concluded that Mathilda wouldn´t become a threat to them physically. Whatever she threw at them in the dish or outside of it they'd know ahead of time and be able to counter. Yet, soon, he also realized that she might come too close in a completely different way than he expected.
Mathilda had her eyes set on Sergei.
With a risk to sound egocentric, Yuriy thought of how there have been people in the past who had tried to befriend, for example Sergei or Ian, with hopes of getting let into the Russians´ circle for their own personal gain or to even end up in his or Boris´ bed. Ian has always been the teammate most strangers assumed to be the easiest one to get close to. Often getting played in return as Ian has through bad experiences learned how people wanted to use him. All it took was for the short man to get excited over a friendship only to realize he wasn't the one the person was really there for. Others thought Sergei could be their key in. For some reason, many interpreted his silence for lack of depth, and assumed he´d accept almost any positive attention shown his way. They often realized their mistake when the usually gentle giant showed signs of irritation, and they realized just how intimidating the oldest and tallest member of the team could be.
It took Yuriy a while to realize that Mathilda was having a thing for Sergei. Even if her skin grew red with embarrassment, her voice cracking, she kept on approaching his brother with small conversations. Eyes were bright with delight as Sergei eventually started to return her greetings. Answered her questions, even if he seemed a bit put off balance by the attention and the fact that the girl didn´t stop approaching him.
Yuriy trusted Sergei to shoot her down if he felt she was overstepping, and he forced himself to let it go, only for him to see the two together more often. The lump of anxiety in his chest grew larger. Now, would this tiny girl, who sometimes stuttered out of nerves, be that cunning, to get close to Sergei with a false promise of.... affections... to later hurt him? Hurt their team? Yuriy didn´t want to take any chances. Yuriy knew Sergei had his walls up just like himself. He might seem approachable, at least the most approachable one out of his other teammates, just for the person trying to strike up a conversation feel like they're facing a cold brick wall. However, Yuriy could tell that Sergei´s walls were starting to crack around Mathilda.
Soon Sergei allowed her into his space, closer than any other stranger, and would expect Mathilda to be around. His steel blue eyes searched for her when she wasn't there when he expected her to be. How the quick meetings in the shared kitchen area of their hotel floor turned into longer and longer conversations over tea and coffee.
At one point Yuriy had felt Mathilda´s Captain Miguel´s eyes on him from across the dining area as they had both observed the same thing, and Yuriy felt annoyed. For once not so much over that Sergei and Mathilda were getting closer, but because of how cautious Miguel´s eyes had been. As if he was telling Yuriy to make sure his team behaved.
It didn't take long for Mathilda´s name to leave Sergei´s mouth around his team. It had made them grow quiet, because it had been rare for any of them to have plans with others outside of their small circle. Boris was the first one to break the silence as he made a crude joke about Sergei´s and Mathilda´s difference in size and that Sergei should be careful not to crush her. Boris deserved the death stare Sergei gave him after that.
Yuriy kept fighting his unease, believing that Sergei knew what he was doing, while also getting ready to act if things got out of hand.
The first time Mathilda ate with them she was very nervous, Yuriy could tell, the whole world could tell, but she still sat there with them and tried. Tried to keep up with conversations even if Boris was rude, and spoke mostly in Russian in a childish way to exclude her. Something Yuriy wouldn´t accept, as he instead used the lunch to talk to her. Gently poke her to see if there was any ill intent, testing the waters.
What in the end convinced Yuriy Mathilda was safe and good for his brother was the way she reacted to Sergei getting hurt. It was a minor injury: Sergei had stepped badly during practise and damaged his ankle. Leaving him with a swollen foot and a bad limp he tried to cover as well as he could among strangers. Somehow Mathilda saw through his pretense and realized he was hurt. The usually quiet girl had stopped Sergei as he and Boris were walking past her in the hallway. Voice a bit high-pitched as she asked about Sergei´s limp, and grew almost pushy as Boris told her it was nothing. As he told her to back off.
Mathilda had spent that evening sitting by Sergei’s feet cooling the swelling of his injury with ice and cold water. Yuriy had only realized this when he returned from a meeting with the BBA. The worry he saw on her face wasn’t an act. The challenge in her eyes as she looked at him and his team while staying by Sergei’s side, daring them to ask her to leave, was her true feelings.
Yuriy´s eyes narrow a fraction. He swirls the tablespoon in his now half-empty coffee cup, and tilts his head to the side while taking in Mathilda's sincere expression. Her face tells him that whatever secret she is hiding her nerves is from excitement and not out of anxiety.
“Our one year anniversary is coming up.” Mathilda starts slowly, her cheeks seeming to get even redder as she tries to word her thoughts as she wants them. “And I'm… trying to decide what I can do for him in celebration.”
Yuriy´s expression softens slightly, his concern fading. “...A year already?” He asks, feeling calm again. The thought that something between Sergei and Mathilda had turned bad had made him feel strangely uneasy. The man mentally sighs at himself. Focus returning to the current conversation and not what he dreads of the future. It feels like he met Mathilda just yesterday, at the same time as he feels as if they have known each other for several years already.
Anniversaries. Yuriy hasn´t thought much about it, but have they ever celebrated things like that, him and his family? They do keep track of a few dates, when things changed for the better for them. Boris is usually the one bringing out the alcohol. They always made sure to celebrate each other's birthdays as well. Celebrating they´re still getting older, living. Being free. Sergei was the first of them to get into a serious relationship. This is all new.
“Sergei probably won't expect anything…” Yuriy trails off slightly. “You have a good shot at surprising him, Mathilda.”
Mathilda has been patient and gentle as she guides Sergei through his first relationship. Yuriy thinks Sergei might not be Mathilda´s first love, but her first in many other ways, and they could experience it together at their own pace.
Sergei rarely wants something for himself, or expects others to do things for him. Emotions that Yuriy has seen grow since he started seeing Mathilda, as the man too learned he wanted her attention in different ways. Sergei had gone from only making sure others were alright to having someone, outside of family, who’d get worried sick about him. Who he would fight wars to keep happy and safe.
Mathilda smiles at Yuriy´s answer, and she seems pleased about what he just told her even if it didn't solve her problem of what to get Sergei in the end. Yuriy wonders what she has planned for her boyfriend. Warmth grows in him as he knows that Sergei now has more dates to remember and celebrate. Just like he too has a reason to spoil yet another person, Mathilda, when he wants to.
“I thought of… kidnapping him for a day, taking him to our favorite places, eat his favorite foods… “ Mathilda speaks, excited. “And-- … “ “You want us to be… somewhere else that day?” Yuriy asks with a slight smirk. The smirk is quite natural as he´ s amused imagining how Mathilda would ´kidnap´ Sergei.
“N-no!” Mathilda exclaims, understanding what her friend means. If they want some more privacy, just for them. “Well, it would be nice but--… “
“I'm sure I can get Boris and Ian out of the house for one evening…” Yuriy continues to playfully tease her.
A low buzz in Yuriy´s pocket makes him reach down for his phone, looking at the screen for just a moment.“Sergei´s off work, he's coming to pick us up on the way home.” Yuriy is thankful as he would rather not get on the public transport again today.
Mathilda nods, clearly thinking time must have passed quickly today, as she too checks her phone. Red cheeks slowly return to a normal shade as her embarrassment fades. Mathilda had neglected her phone simply because she was focused on Yuriy today, and there's an unread message from Sergei there waiting for her. The blonde Russian must have texted Yuriy too, due to the lack of reply on Mathilda´s part.
Just like Yuriy calls Mathilda when he can't get a hold of Sergei.
“I'll go and buy something for the others!” Mathilda says, getting her wallet before walking away. Blue eyes watches her as she checks out the display of different treats. Yuriy can already see Ian grinning at the gesture, and Boris not reacting much but whatever Mathilda gets for him will get eaten before next morning. For once, Yuriy isn´t the first one to notice Sergei. Instead his eyes follow how Mathilda rushes over to him, bag of sweets in hand. Taking in how Sergei´s tall and stiff frame softens as he leans down towards her: listening attentively to whatever she's saying. Yuriy gets up from his seat and pulls on his coat slowly, unable to look away at the sight. They look happy. It warms him, from inside out. He gets Mathilda´s things for her before he moves towards the couple. A long exhale through the nose.
Not everyone is out to hurt them.

Chapter 2: Tattered

warnings: swearing, internalised guilt and shame, intrusive thoughts, self doubt, depression.
a/n: I don’t really have anything to say other than I’m enjoying writing for Aran so much. if you wanna be tagged in future chapters lemme know, and as always feedback is greatly appreciated!
Tumblr media
Aran knows people don't always mean what they say.  Even he had done it before and it destroyed a few of his relationships. Knowing that doesn't make your words hurt any less.
He tries to convince himself you didn't really mean it, still a part of him wonders if that's how you really feel. How you've always felt. For all those years he was assured of your friendship and now you've pulled the rug from under his feet. None of your words align with the image in his head. Perhaps you've never been the person he remembers. The you in his mind is just that, a memory, a perfect picture he created from bits and pieces he chose. Has he truly always seen only what he wanted to see?
Thoughts of you run through his mind as he stands on the back line. One more serve before he wraps up. Bam.
To always see good in people is what he was thought growing up and what he still tries to do to this day, even if years had thought him people aren't only their good sides. He always thought of you only at your best and failed to even get to know you properly. What kind of friend does that? You're in pain and he can't help because he has no idea where the wounds are. He has no idea where to look for them because he refused to see.
Perhaps he is a terrible friend after all.
Bam. The ball gets caught in the net and falls. Aran watches it roll away before picking up another. He breathes deeply. It's all about focus, he reminds himself, even when his mind wants to slip he has to remain focused.
All of his teammates have left already. Home, to their partners, their families. What will he return home to? An empty apartment with take-out he'll eat on the couch. Alone. Maybe he should get a pet. But when will he have time to care for it?
Bam.
He should call home. Check on his friends. Maybe if he had checked on you more often then-
Bam.
What use is pondering over what could've been? With each serve his palm aches more, his muscles already sore from practice but he doesn't want to stop yet. One more.
“There's a difference between training hard and overdoing it, you know?“
Perhaps life is just memories of days long gone sipping into present.
When he turns to face you uneasiness rises in him. Any other time he'd be elated to see you. Now even words to greet you with escape him. You come closer, shoes softly squeaking on the gym's floor. “Doorman let me in. After a little bit of convincing.“
“Really?“
“No, I slipped past while his back was turned. How long are you planning on staying? I saw all of your teammates leave already.“
Aran turns the ball in his hands. It's becoming slippery from all the sweat. He can't bring himself to look you in the eyes. “My serves are gettin' sloppy. I need more practice.“
Bam.
You stay where you are, watching and fiddling with the strap of your bag, until you can't bear the silence anymore and speak up. “Aran, I actually wanted to talk to you. About you know... what I said.“
“T's okay. I know ya didn't mean it.“
“I did.“ Your voice eerily echoes in the otherwise empty gym. “As shitty as it is, it's how I felt.“ You're eyes stay fixed on the floor. “I'm sorry.“
Aran catches the ball he just threw in the air for another jump serve. When he looks over at you you're still intently focused on your shoelaces, gripping the strap of the bag so tight your knuckles turned white. Why are you beating yourself up so much? If you feel something, you feel it. What reason for it do you need to have? Knowing how you felt hurts, that much he can't deny. And yet he can't hold it against you.
He puts the ball on the top of your head, just like boys used to do back in high school to annoy you. “If ya really insist on apologisin' then I guess I have no other choice but to forgive ya.”
As his words sink in you shyly glance at him. “You sure?“
“'Course I am,“ smiles Aran, balancing the ball so it doesn't roll from the top of your head.
“You're not angry? At me?“
He takes the ball and starts throwing it from one hand to another. “Not really. Very surprised. A little hurt.“
“I'm sorry-“
“Yeah, yeah, I know,“ he cuts you off. “Set for me and we'll call it even.”
“Aran, my sets are in no way near the level you're used to.“
“So?“ he asks already walking over to fetch the ball cart. “Ya still remember where to stand, right?“ he teases, cackling softly when you roll your eyes and take off your bag and jacket, all while trying to hide a smile creeping on your lips.
It takes a few tries for you to remember how to make an overhand set. Aran's filled with giddy warmth when you manage to send the ball in the right position for him to spike it over the net. Perhaps all those lessons with Atsumu years ago didn't go to waste after all. Your little victory jump makes him burst into laughter and he rewards you with a high five.
It really is an echo of history.
Your skills are rusty, something that makes you apologise profusely every time you mess up, even after he reassures you he doesn't mind, and ruffles your hair.
With each set you relax more, till every smile and laugh seem sincere. Only now Aran realises how he missed this carefree side of you. Time always flies too fast when you're around and soon enough, out of breath and wiping the drops of sweat from your forehead, you call an end of this individual practice.
He hurries with showering and changing into fresh clothes, not wanting to leave you waiting for too long, especially since you have morning lessons tomorrow. He buys you a drink from the vending machine. It's not much, but staying hydrated is important, he tells you when you tease him about it.
“You know, that brought back a lot of memories,“ you say while walking to the train station, then poke his shoulder. “Thanks.“ The smile dancing over your lips makes his cheeks warm up. You glance over to the sky hiding behind a golden halo that city lights cast over the rooftops. “Do you ever miss Hyogo?“
“Sometimes.“
“I miss the stars.“ You kick a small stone from your path. “You've become quite a star too you know. With all the fans and attention I really wonder, do you get lonely?”
Your question catches him off guard. “I'm too busy to get lonely,“ he lies.
“I get lonely sometimes,“ your eyes still search for a glimmer of a distant star. “And tired. Some days I just want to sleep all day. Do you ever get the urge to do that? Skip practice and stay in bed?“
“No. If I skipped practice how will I become better?”
You purse your lips and nod. “That's why you're a professional athlete and I'm just trying to figure out why I have to separate blue and red laundry.“
“Those are two very different things.“
“Both are just some pieces of cloth. Why do I have to separate them? If they got problems with each other they should grow up and talk it out.”
That’s not what he meant, but your slight annoyance over technicalities of doing laundry still makes him laugh.
Tumblr media
In the coming days Aran checks his phone every chance he gets, just to see if you already wrote back. No matter what you talk about he wants to hear it; be it about your day or the delivery man being late with your order. His teammates notice and tease him about it yet he denies you're anything more than just a friend, and they exchange knowing looks when his back is turned. Even if his entire body heats up at the sole mention of your name Aran isn't ready to admit to himself, let alone others, he wants you to be more.
Not when he isn't sure if his feelings for you are being muddled by his memories.
That Tuesday you grab a dinner together that turns into a late night walk through the streets. It's not a date, Aran keeps reminding himself. It's just two friends hanging out as you've done a thousand times before. So why is his heart threatening to thump it's way out of his chest?
After that night weekly hanging out with you becomes a regular occurrence. Sometimes you go out to eat, sometimes you drag him along when you go shopping, saying he has a good eye for colour combinations. It has nothing to do with the fact he buys you ice cream every time. Some days you come to his place to play video games or watch movies. Seeing his favourite series making you laugh warms his heart.
As you become more comfortable around him your facade slowly, bit by bit, starts to crumble. He's scared to see what lies beneath yet at the same time he wishes it would break already. He can't help you if he doesn't know, can he?
Whatever is troubling you he wishes you'd trust him enough to confide in him. In the back of his mind lingers the question he's too scared too ask.
Does Kita know what's on your mind? Do you still talk to him?
You used to be close to the team. The one they relied on. The one who so lovingly tapped their fingers before each game. Do they know your eyes are puffy? Do they know every sleepless night that goes by makes the dark circles under your eyes harder to hide? Do they know his heart breaks every time he sees the tremble of your lips when you force a smile?
No matter how bad he wants to hold you, tell you it's going to be okay, the mere thought of reaching out paralyses him.
What if you don't want his help?
If you did, you would've asked already, right? Not even practice can stop him from thinking about you. His disappointment grows a little when he sees no new messages. Perhaps you don't want to talk to him after all.
He's just leaving the gym when his phone lights up and seeing it's your name makes his heart flutter. He eagerly picks up. “Hi!“
“H-hey.“ Already in the first word the strain in your voice is apparent. “Um, am I interrupting you?“
“No, of course not. I just finished with practice. What's up?“
“I-“ He hears you take a deep breath. “Um, I don't, I don't feel so good...“ Your next words are almost a whisper. “Could I come over?“
“'Course ya can come over. I'll be home in about an hour.“
By the time he arrives you're already there, standing by the entrance nervously stepping from one leg to another. You give a shy wave when he approaches. He noticed you've been acting weirdly sheepish around him and he's not used to it. You're friends. What's making you so nervous?
You trail behind him, hands tucked deep in your pockets. You don't even pull them out when taking your shoes off.
“Tea?“ he offers when you make your way towards the sofa.
“Sure,“ you nod, sitting and tightly hugging a pillow. “Sorry about that,“ you say when he joins you with two cups of tea, “I just... bad day, you know? Didn't want to be alone.“
With a smile he assures you it's no problem. You're welcome to come by whenever you want.
You tell him about college, about work. “Boss is a shit bag,“ you complain. The working hours make you late for your lessons and even professors are getting fed up with you always being late. Not to mention your classmates aren't keen on lending you notes to copy.
It's all too much, you say, work, college, the pressure of everyone's expectations. Your fellow students give you funny looks sometimes, you tell him. It's only a few years but you're still older than them, at the age where your parents are asking when you are going to settle down. Have children. Get a stable job. Well how could you when you haven't even gotten your degree yet? It all makes you feel like a failure.
And yet something tells Aran that's not why you're here. Maybe it's the nervous fumbling with the hem of your clothes. Maybe it's because you don't look at him at all. A silence falls on you as you sip your tea. Aran considers asking out right but you gather the courage before he does.
“Shin called.“
“Ah.“ That's all he manages to say.
“He's doing good, in case you're wondering. He asked if we have any plans on visiting any time soon.“ Your eyes skim over his face. “That would be nice, don't you think?“
Aran forces a smile. “Sounds great.“ Once again your words threaten to shake the ground he stands on. All he hears is 'seeing Shin would be nice'. His grip on the cup tightens and he puts it away before he'd crack it.
“Do ya miss him?“ he asks, words coming out more choked up than he intended. He clears his throat when he leans back on the couch's backrest.
You think over his question. “I miss my best friend.“
He asks. Even if he doesn't want to know the answer, he asks. “Will you get back with him?“
“No.“ Your answer is quiet, but firm. You readjust yourself to lean on the backrest, facing him, the pillow still tightly squeezed in your grip. “Shin is a great guy just... not the right for me. Wasn't easy to accept but that's how it is.“ You fumble with the thread sticking out from the stitch. “I wasn't good for him, you know?“ you quietly continue. “He protected me since we were kids but at some point it all just... fizzled I guess. I was so used of always being by his side the thought of living without him terrified me. He was that stability I craved. For a long time I believed he would give me a goal in life, or something similar.“ You chuckle. “Try getting through seventeen-year-old-me's head that's not how relationships work. I knew we wouldn't work out. But I stayed because I was selfish and stupid... and scared. I think he knew. And it started to take a toll on him. So I left before he'd break.“ Tears start forming in your eyes. “Shin could never understand why I'm so sad without a reason... Maybe if I left sooner... well, it doesn't matter now.“
“Ya can still go back,“ hearing his own words shatters Aran's heart, “once ya feel better.“
The brief laugh you give almost sounds like a sob. “Can I?“ You forcefully wipe the tears away. “Even if I could it wouldn't be the same as I remember now. It's hard to explain but somehow, what’s in your memories is always better than reality. Know what I mean?“
He knows. Memory is the thief of future.
The lump in his throat grows larger, heavier as he watches you try to hide tears starting to run down your cheeks. He's lost, not knowing what else to do but to pull you closer, tucking your head under his chin. He hugs you and softly caresses your back. “It's alright,“ he whispers when you apologise through sobs and tears. He keeps repeating, it's alright. What else could he possibly say?
You relax in his arms and your sobs slowly turn to muffled sniffles. Aran only wishes you feel safe in his arms, your head leaning on his shoulder, your arms shyly wrapping around his middle. It's not the most comfortable position but he's to scared to readjust. He hears your hitched breathing sync with his own as he runs his hands up and down your back and, exhausted from your crying, you're soon fast asleep.
Tumblr media
Perhaps for the first time in his life Aran's starting to really understand you. It pains him, knowing your struggles. You, who were always so full of light, you who were the pillar, tall and unyielding, one he could always lean onto. How memories managed to muddle his perception of you so much is beyond him. The only thing he can do is promise himself to never let them deceive him again. After all, who needs memories?
He messages you more frequently. Not too frequently, he doesn't want to appear nosy or pushy. Just often enough to let you know he's there for you if you need him.
You've been busier with college lately, so weekly hang outs turn to late night phone calls. Hearing your voice feels like a refreshing cool breeze on these hot summer nights.
He collapses in his bed, only half listening to your rambling on about one of the professors. He didn't catch her name.
“Aran? You still there?“
“Yeah, I'm still here. T's been a long day, t's all.“
He hears you hum and he can imagine the way you lean your head to the side. “Coach in a bad mood?“
“Not really. I'm just not feelin' my best. Couldn't sync with Aritsura's sets. But ya know, more practice 's all we need. How was your day?“ he asks, forgetting you just told him a few minutes ago.
“It was alright,“ you say instead of repeating what you already told him. “Actually, I wanted to apologise. About last time. I shouldn't have dumped all my problems on you.“
“How many times do I need to repeat it's okay. I'm here for ya.“
“Still. I'm sorry. It was a lot. I... I don't want to be a burden.“
His brows furrow. How many times does he have to repeat it? Why don't you get it? “Yer not.“ Your low chuckle makes him irritated . “I mean it. If ya ever need to talk just say, alright?“
“Yeah, yeah I will... Thank you. It's just that... I don't want to ruin this friendship too. That's all. Tell me when I become too much. Please.“
What are you talking about? “Whatever is on yer mind I promise I can handle it.“
“Can you? So you not being able to play your best has nothing to do with me dumping all my problems on you?“
Something in the way you say those words pushes the wrong button. He's only trying to be here for you, why can't you see that? “I don't care enough to let it impact me.“ Fuck. Even before the final word leaves his mouth he knows it came out wrong. “I'm sorry, fuck, y/n, I didn't mean it like that-“
“It's okay,“ you interrupt. “You're right.“
“I'm-“
“Get some sleep Aran. You have practice tomorrow. G' night.“ You end the call before he gets the chance to say goodbye.
Fuck.

what have I created?
idk if yall like this, but they just exist not i guess :/
ok the the first one is Royalty AU
first things first, when I say Royalty AU, I don't mean the classic shit we've all become accustomed to. Im talking about the good old Chinese royalty! And I want to emphasize that these guys will/should be dressed in century appropriate attire. As someone thats read a handful of 'marinette, princess of china' fics from the ML Fandom, I've noticed a common trend. Marinette wouldn't be in the culturally appropriate clothes, always ballgowns. Not that there's something wrong with it, its just most of if not all these fic are set in China, so I'd expect Chinese royalty to dress as THERE dress code calls for. And since this AU takes place far in the past like, it won't make sense for any of the characters to be in royal clothing that wasn't from there region. I'm not trying to white knight/gatekeeping. Im Guyanese not Chinese. But since JTTW and Monkie Kid take place in China, it's only right. In my opinion that it. You don't have to outright agree with me.
With out of the way, it's time for that good old AU crack
- Wukong is the king of the Flower Fruit kingdom(or a different one if you'd like, again I'm only familiar with what western culture has taught me, but I'll try my hardest)
- he’s single but rumor has it he used to/still is dating the Vigilante/thief The Six Eared Macaque
- *chants ShadowPeach violently*
- no one know whether it true or not
- On of his wanders around the kingdom he finds an abandoned baby in a basket.
- and no shit sherlock it's fucking baby Xiaotian
- I think we all know where this is going because i'm a simp for Monkey Dad & Monkie Son shenanigans
- Xiaotian becomes prince
Shit, ill be referring to Xiaotian as Mk from now on, I mentioned this before in a fic I wrote for lmk that Mk's a nickname for Xiaotian for some reason- wait i don't have to explain my self to you people!
- Sun loves his son
- MK is treated differently by staff and others because he's not blood related to the king
- no one mistreats MK per say, because there King loved his adopted son, but words are said behind his back
- Sometimes MK hears what’s said, and he feels as if he won't live up to his dad’s legacy.
- He meets Mei during a festival
- Mei is from a noble family, that wouldn't mind if they got a connection into the royal family.
- but it becomes hella clear to Mei’s family very fast that the two are just friends, and will always will be. but hey there daughter is bffs with the prince so that's a plus.
_
- the Demon Bull Family is rules a kingdom as well, I dont/am not creative enough to think of a name I leave that to you.
- It's a common misconception that DBK is a tyrant, when he’s not.
- most of the time...
- they have been at war with the Monkey King for some time now and settled for a peace agreement.
- that agreement being there sons to marry
- oooo original i know
- MK and Red Son are roughly the same age, Mk being 20 and RS 22
- RS is revolted/disgusted at the idea of being wed to the Monkey Kings child, even more so when he realizes MK is adopted,
- but, that all changes the second he meets MK while he meets him by accident when he gets kinda lost in the palace when he and his parents go to discuss the arrangements.
- the second he looks at MK, he's instantly in love. MK less so, he's nervous and honestly kinda bummed he's not marrying someone he loves but it's for the good of his ppl, and he'll do anything for them.
- RS isn't even aware that MK is Suns adopted son until MK walks him back to the meeting room.
"Oh There you are MK! I was about to have a servant go fetch you!" Sun Wukong says, gesturing for his boy to come sit with him.
"S-sorry for keeping you waiting I got caught up in my lessons with Mr. Tang" MK responds, sitting next to his father. Red Son looked gobsmacked. The beautiful young man he had bumped into, was the prince of this land? Damn, life truly blessed him. Or cursed him depending on how you looked at it.
- the two are left alone in a separate room for a while.
- And MK straight up tells RS why he's agreeing to this union.
"Look Red Son. I've dreamed about meeting my one true love for a while. And I would give almost anything for that dram to be real. But I wouldn't ever dare give up my people, for as there price they mean more to me. I'm doing this for them, no other reason" MK says, his back straight and hands folded neatly in his lap. The look in his eyes was a mix of sadness, but that was drowned out by loyalty and determination. It just made Red Son fall for him even harder. Clearing his throat Red spoke.
"I understand, for im doing this for the betterment of my people to. But I propose a wager"
"A wager?"
"Yes, if i can make you fall in love with me by years end, before our marriage, we can live together like in the fairy tales from far away. But if I fail, in a years time afterwards you will be permitted to find your own path in life" Red Son stated. MK took a moment to process what was happening.
"So, if you succeed in making me fall in love with you, before our marriage we can live happily ever after?" Red Son nodded in response, letting the younger continue.
"And if I shouldn't fall for you, in a years time after our union, im free to leave?" Red Son nodded once more.
"So, what do you say?"
...
"Deal"
In the end, your free to choose their fate, should Red Son win the hart of Mk? Will he fail? Or will he let him go, and let him travel the country, after all Mk's a free spirit and keeping him trapped in a big house is like keeping a cannery trapped in a cage only for its song, only for it to dul. Or will the unthinkable happen and will both boys find their freedom? together or appart? I don't know, because that's all up to you 😉
personally, I’m partial to where MK and Red Son both find freedom together. Like they straight up run away together to somewhere far away and just live out there lives together.
this could also be genderbent thing as well. MK or Red as their respective counterparts. Again it doesn't have to be, but it’s whatever bro. im just spitting out the idea.
Also, there is a main side plot that they fight the WBS throughout the year as well, along with other shenanigans you wanna throw in.
____
The second is a My Hero Academia/BNH/MHA AU
truth be told i'm not a big fan of MHA i think it to over hyped(this is also coming from the same person that’s a Fairy Tail fan lol), and the fandom i don't even know how to describe that mess, but I will admit not the whole of its toxic since every fandom has some toxic members, some even more so.
I just sometimes find myself enjoying MHA AUs like the Fullmetal Alchemist, Danny Phantom, Evil!Deuk AU and several others.
to make it clear I don't see this AU taking place the same time as the main plot of the actual Anime/Manga. This could be either like 6-10 years before or after the plot idk bro. But i’ll do this after the main story plot of MHA, so keep that in mind ya? another thing, the gang is still in China, the top hero school in the world just so happens to be in Japan, and it’s only ever mentioned by Sun wukong and other pro heros. So MK never attended AU. in short it’s only ever mention/ reference.
_
- Mk was considered Quirkless as a kid.
- he was just a late blumer, i swear
- Mai’s Quirk is called Dragon.
- it pretty much works the same way as it does in the show(duh)
- Tang’s got a knowledge Quirk,
- my man can retain information and he’s basically an archive of information drawback being his personality lol
- Piggsy is a Animal that gained a Quirk
- in cannon to my current knowledge, there are two other characters that can confirm animals can become sentient. the characters being Fumikage Tokoyami, & Nezu the principal at the school UA.
- Sandy is just Conner Kent, aka he like superman but can't fly, or shoot lasers from his eyes. And blue.
I have two scenarios for Macaque and Wukong
*- The first one is that, Sun Wukong & Macaque are brothers. twins to be exact.
- they where legit people, but have mutation quirks that made them too like monkeys.
- the added powers were just a boues.
- Sun and Mac are close growing up, like there brothers but also best friends.
- the draw back to there quirks could honestly be whatever you want bro idk, same with the others tbh. Personally I like to think Sun just has lack of motivation, and Macaque needs to draw on other people's energy.
- Sun is a hero, Monkey KIng and Mac is a villain Six Eared.
- Sun was always treated has the golden child in the family, Mac always resented that, but there shitty up bring didn’t stop the two from being good brothers to one another.
- soon tho the resentment became hatred when Sun was able to attend UA in Japan, while Mac didn't.
- Mac be angy
- so he became a villain, and joined the Chinese branch of the LOV(league of villains)
- Sun doesn't know this till he finds out during the all out war during the main story. and by that time he’s a full on hero with is own agency(The Flower Fruit agency)
- when the hero's ultimately win and Mac is arrested
- This ultimately hurts Sun a lot, his brother was in jail now, arrested for his involvement and wrong doings, he knew nothing about this! this brother, his blood. A bad guy? why? he hadn't seen his brother since he left for UA, he hadn’t seen him when he came home, and started his agency.
- this just puts Sun into a funk so he’s not as active as he used to be, and he starts thinking he might need a successor
*- The second one is that they were two separate people that had similar quirks and both attended UA but Sun ended up in the hero corse. so 1A.
- Both Macaque and Sun have similar quirks, Sun’s is obviously more light based while Macaque’s is more shadow based(this applies to the first one as well)
- Macaque was placed in class 1B, U.A.’s High's Heroics Department, I believe, you can correct me.
- In cannon Class 1A and 1B both went to the training camp. I can see the teachers pinning Sun and Macaque against each other to hone their skills.
- And because of that they become great friends
- In fact when they graduate they both co-found there hero agency together in China and are a duo.
- But due to Monkey King’s popularity and Six Eared's association with shadows(people sometimes saying he has more of a villains quirk than a heros) the public see’s Macaque as Sun’s sidekick when thats far from the truth.
- now it’s up to you whether you think that Wukong and Macaque would be in a relationship together, but knowing how cooked we all are, ShadowPeach is a thing here more than likely.
- If you do or don’t support/ like the ShadowPeach aspect, the two would be living together regardless since its more cost efficient.
- They my be heroes but living costs are expensive!
- I would imagine there would have been a huge fight/argument between the two in privet of course, at there home.(or in there shared office if you want the extra angst of the other people they work with hearing them fight)
- If the two are dating, then this would either lead to an out right breakup, or Macaque just up and leaving with Wukong thinking he’ll come back once he’s cooled off. But after a week, with no sign of his partner, or him answering texts or calls, not even coming into work. Wukong gets worried that something might have happened to him. so there wouldn't be a confirmation if they were still a thing or not.
- But Wukong remains hopeful, despite the nagging at the back of his head, and gut telling him to go find Macaque, or atleast make a public statement, or even just tell another pro hero about it.
- on the not so shippy side, Macaque and Wukong still have there argument, and much like the ShadowPeach esc side, Macaque up and leaves, and isn't seen for weeks. the only difference here is that when Wukong comes home one night to there flat, most if not all of Macaques stuff is gone.
- where as if this was the ShadowPeach side, Macaque leaves all of his possession in the flat he and wukong share. for the simple reason being, he still loves him and wants to go back, but Macaque being Macaque can’t bring himself to do it, especially after seeing just how hurt Wukong looked when he yelled at him just before he left.
- in other words, ANGST DIALED UP TO A 10 BABY
- in either case, its a news report that confirms Wukong's suspicions that he desperately didn’t want to believe, and that is Macaque turning into a villain.
- much like if the two were brothers, Wukong just can’t take it and is no longer as active as he once was, and is thinking about, either A) Retirement  B) Saying, “Fuck Society, Be Gay Do Crime” and join Macaque as a villain himself, or C) find a successor, and a way to bring Macaque back to there side, but most importantly, back to him.
- also extra points if you're after people's hearts and want to make them suffer;  - If there dating, Wukong curle’s up in the bed he and Macaque shared, holding/wearing something of great value to Macaque and just crying himself to sleep, where as Macaque is getting wasted on alcohol, as he stumbles out of the bar he’s in, he either see’s something that reminds him of Wukong or while he’s trying to put his wallet back into his pocket, a photo of them on their first date fall’s out. and Macaque just cries in a nearby alley way. And it’s there where he gets indoctrinated into the League.
       - If there just friends, macaque heads to the nearest forest and just levels it, where as Wukong just gets engrossed into his work, trying not to think about it. you could add you own spin on this, again i'm just spitballing.
- NOW BACK TO MK! :D
- Obviously MK is a huge Monkey King fan
- at Twenty MK has come to terms he's quirkless (HE’S NOT)
-for ANGST reasons MKs fokes kicked him out at this realization at 13.
- he works at Piggsy's Noodle shop, and has been since he was 14.
- don't need a quirk to drive or cook!
- the boy lives a content life with his new family, till DBK happens :D
- DBK runs a Mafia(in conjunction with TLOV) and has been in jail for like 5 years thanks to Monkey King, PIF and RS brake him out one night when MK's out making a late night delivery since Piggsy had the bright idea to go 24/7 service!
- one thing leads to another and Mk somehow manifest what looks like the Monkey King's staff, but its not, it’s MKs powers, it just so happens to be the same power the Monkey King has. And it practically goes down the same way in the pilot.
- but unlike the pilot Mk and Mei go straight to the FF Agency, after making a panicked call to Pigsy and Tang.
- one way or another Mk are lead into Wukongs office. Mei being forced to stay in the lobby.
- they have there convo, butterfly monkey squishing included.
- "And so, I want you do be my success-" BOOM 💥
- from there they rush downstairs and see that the lobby has been infiltrated by the DB fam, and you know fight.
- once the DB family seems like there down, PIF wisks them away. Much to Monkey King’s displeasure.
From there stuff kind plays out like cannon, the calabash ep is just a conjoint quirk the Demon bros have. As for EP9, ill have to script that one out myself lol. I'll get onto it as soon as my will to commit stabs me in the face. Till then have a dancing Kermit the frog.
Now if you'll excuse me, am about to Kermit a felony :D
(For legal reasons thats a joke)
Psst @writingamongther0ses its done

Could I have some headcanons of Seto Kaiba with a chubby reader who's sassy and doesn't take any crap from anyone? Awesome blog!
My first request :D YAY FINALLY! Hopefully it’s not horrible D:
Tumblr media
One would assume that Seto is rather choosy about the people he dates and they are quite correct. With people constantly after him for his company and money combined with the abuse he experienced from his adoptive father, he has issues with trust and getting him to open up is like trying to make Yugi grow taller. Being in a relationship with Seto will require a lot of patience and effort on your part but it’s definitely worth it once you get past his Blue-Eyed shield and can actually attract his attention to begin with.
Contrary to popular belief, Seto doesn’t really care about looks or even social status when it comes right down to it so don’t even worry about your chubbiness! If anything, that’s just more of you to love according to him even though he won’t say it out loud! If anyone even dares to crack a “Number 10″ joke (since he’s pretty skinny LOL) or attempts to give you shit because of your size, Seto will shut that down REAL quick assuming you don’t beat him to the punch that is. God forbid if the offender in question works for KaibaCorp! I don’t even wanna imagine the nuclear revenge that would follow! If you do put an asshole in their place before he does, Seto will definitely have a proud smirk on his face and will let you take out the trash while he stands by your side, glaring at the prick.
Seto can be quite an asshole sometimes so your sass and “take-no-shit” attitude will definitely be helpful in this relationship! Since it will lead to quite a few arguments due to Seto’s stubbornness and own bad attitude, Mokuba will be the mediator between you two since he ships y’all like FedEx. You and Seto will definitely have some back-and-forth banter since he’s pretty sassy himself and holy shit it can go on FOREVER! Thank God for Mokuba!
Speaking of Mokuba, it goes without saying that if you want to be close to Seto, you have to obviously deal with and get along with the younger Kaiba as well. But that’s no issue since he’s so adorable and lovable! You two make a great team and your sassiness just makes everything better and also funnier! Even Seto can’t help but chuckle at the banter and one-liners you and Mokuba will deliver sometimes!
Expect to be showered with the finest clothes and jewelry money can buy. Especially clothes that show off your chubby figure! If you’re gonna be Seto’s lover, you gotta deal with being spoiled even if you don’t need or want it. If you have your own dreams and goals, that’s even better because Seto will definitely be there to support you! Can’t afford college? He’ll make sure you’ll get into the best school with all expenses fully paid. Have issues finding a job? Don’t even sweat it! With Seto’s influence, you can get a job practically anywhere! Of course he’ll be subtle about it in his own special way but it’s so irresistible and who can turn that down?! If you love Duel Monsters, you’ve bought a one-way ticket to his heart! Enough said.
Any insecurities about your figure will quickly be forgotten with Seto as your lover and anything negative that you say about your body he’ll turn into a positive. Seto shows his love for your body in more subtle ways such as lingering touches and stares and suggesting more form-fitting clothing for you to wear. He definitely has the “If you’ve got it, flaunt it” mentality when it comes to combating insecurities and self-confidence issues which is no surprise since he’s richer than Bill Gates.
Seto will definitely be a great guy for a sassy, chubby person to have as an S/O! He’ll never let anyone pick on you because of your weight nor will he allow you to feel self-conscious because of it! Your sass will match his perfectly and the fact that you don’t take shit from anyone is something that Seto adores (even when you direct it towards him)! 10/10 Best lover hands down!

"Not so tough now aye Princessa?" You chuckeld into her ear, not failing to notice her breath hitch and heart beat picking up a pace.
"Midnight. We meet again." Came her reply, trying to keep still in your hold.
"Mhm, what a pleasurable coincident." You purred. You'll admit that you did find her very attractive, and the way she seem to shiver when your lips ghosted ever so slightly against her ear and they way your breath fanned against the back of her neck had her hair raising had you smirking devilishly.
"Enjoying yourself Princessa?" You cooed.
"In your dreams, bad wolf." Alex breated out, hands now firm on the arm around her neck.
Kara stepped closer this time, keeping a tentantive eye on you.
"(Y/N), you can let her go now. She means no harm." Kara assured. "And you can come with us now."
"Meh, where's the fun in letting her go. She doesn't seem to mind it either." You chuckled at them.
Kara looked to Alex and with that distrataction you whispered an inaudible thing in her ear and shoved her towards Kara.
Kara let's out a spueek but easily caught her sister, helping her to stand upright.
"Well playtime was fun but I'm afraid I must go, see ya later querida." You winked at Alex before turning into wolf form and running off into the shadows of the night.
They both stood dumbfounded and baffled, trying to process what have just happened.
"What just happened?" Kara managed to get out, looking at her sister.
Alex stood wide-eyed, before calming down.
"Just...woah. I don't even know." Alex breated out.
Kara suddenly amusedly smirk at her sister.
"Oh, you like her." Kara laughed heartily at her sisters perplexed expression.
"I....do not!" Alex yelped, trying to hide the blush rising towards her cheecks.
Kara laughed even harder at this. "You so do have a crush."
Alex playfully shoved her. "Shut up blondie."
"What did she whisper in your ear?" Kara asked, a smug look on her face.
"N-nothing." Alex blushed, glaring at Kara.
"Oh Rao, am I hearing wedding bells?" Kara bursted out laughing.
Alex glared even harder at her. "Shut up!" And this time punshed her shoulder lightly.
"And how do you know her real name?" Alex questioned Kara.
"Well, turns out she's my childhood friend from Krypton. That's why she looked familiar." Kara explained, standing infront of her sister.
Alex smiled at her sister. "Woah, that's nice. You aren't so alone anymore."
Kara smiled back. "Yeah, I'm glad she survived. I was heartbroken when I thought she have died with Kryptons destruction."
"Are all Kryptonians so foward and flirty." Alex smirked.
This time it was Kara's turn to blush. "Ehehe, not everyone, just males and Alpha females."
"Ha, knew you were a bottom." Alex laughed, causing Kara to elbow her playfully.
"So that means she's an Alpha wolf?" Alex suddenly asked.
"Yep, she is. Born pure Alpha. Why you asking? You wanna be her bottom Omega. Or are you a top." Kara wiggled her eyebrows, giving her a cheecky smile when her blush returned full on.
"You Kryptonians or so unbelievable." Alex grumbles, arms folded.
"And just so you know, Krytonians eat alot so make enough food for us all."
"KARA!" Alex yelled. "She haven't even joined and you talk like this."
🐺🐾🐺🐾🐺🐾🐺🐾🐺🐾🐺🐾🐺🐾🐺🐾
Alex, Kara and J'onn were in the main computer room at the DEO facility, talking about the wolf they now know as (Y/N).
"I still believe that she'd join us if we keep on trying. We can't give up now." Kara said, determination in her voice.
"I agree with Kara." Alex smiled at her sister.
J'onn nodded. "I know. She've been through a lot and it might take her time to fully trust us. But we have to prove to her that we aren't like CADMUS." He explained.
Just when he went to talk more Winn came running from his desk frantically, almost bouncing with excitement.
"Please tell me good news Winn." J'onn looked at Winn, waiting to hear what he have to say.
"Sir, I've find a way we can know who've helped (Y/N) escape. But the file is located at one of their hideouts." Winn explained.
J'onn narrowed his eyes, rubbing at his chin in thought. "Well just give me the location then and I'll work out a plan."
🐺🐾🐺🐾🐺🐾🐺🐾🐺🐾🐺🐾🐺🐾🐺🐾
"Agent Danvers. I have a new mission for you if you are up for it." J'onn fell into step next to Alex that is busy talking.
Both Alex and Kara's attention snapped towards him, greeting him.
"A new mission? What is it Sir?" Alex asked eagerly, just wanting to do something fun other than be stuck listening to Winn's weird theories he seem to have lately.
He held a piece of paper out towards Alex. "I want you to go search this location. One of CADMUS hideouts. Apparently it holds the information of the wolf we need. We can learn who helped her escape, her abilities, strength, weakness etc. But this is a stealth mission, just sneak in and get the info then get out."
"Hell yeah, I'm up for this mission." Alex accepted eagerly.
J'onn give her a small smile. "But just be careful Alex. You are our best agent. We can't afford to loose you. I would've send someone else out but I only trust you with this."
Alex nodded at him, giving him an assuring smile. "I'll try my best Sir."
J'onn gave her a pat on the shoulder. "Suit up and get ready to leave. We need that info as soon. I'm going to have a freak fit if we have to clear up onther mess CADMUS made." With that he left the room.
"I would have loved to go and help you out but Miss Grant will have my head if I do plan her famous Gala tonight then I also have to attend said gala." Kara grumbels.
"You go do that sis, it's only a sneak in mission and get the info then get out. I can handle that." Alex assured her, nudging Kara's side.
Kara smiled softly at her sister, pulling her into a hug before flying off in a hury.
Alex immediately went to get ready, already dressed in her DEO outfit, hostering two pistols at either side of her just in case something goes wrong with the mission and she might have to defend herself.
"Let's hope this is worth a shot." Alex said to herself once outside the building, getting onto her bike.
🐺🐾🐺🐾🐺🐾🐺🐾🐺🐾🐺🐾🐺🐾🐺🐾
"Oh, how orginal." Alex muttered under her breath when arriving at the location, seeying it's an abandoned warehouse.
Taking a quick scan over the place, Alex could see a few guards guarding around the eerie warehouse, unsetilling drilling sounds filling the slightly windy dark air along with the sounds of hammers on metal as a few guards make small talk off in the distance.
"Sir, I don't think this is just a regular abandoned warehouse." Alex said through her ear piece to J'onn, the few hair on her arm raising.
"Agent Danvers, what do you mean? Winn said it wasn't a big deal." J'onn ask in concern and confusion.
"This place is dark and eerily creepy but it seems like an active place, they are certaintly doing something very bad here." Alex explained softly.
"That sounds?" J'onn asked knowingly after catching the faint sound, imagining just how much harder it must sound in person. "I wonder what secret dark stuff they are up to this time. I'll have Winn make more scans over the place."
"Yeah, he clearly must have missed something when he scanned the place." Alex agreed, making sure to stay hidden and keeping an eye out for any guards that might be guarding near.
"Agent Danvers, you can come back to the DEO. Leave that place."
"No Sir. We are so close to getting the information. I can't just throw that away just because of an creepy warehouse." Alex firmly said despite the fear that slowly grips her heart.
J'onn let's out a heavy sigh, knowing it's useless to try and argue with the stuborn agent.
"Alex...just please be careful." J'onn said worriedly making Alex sinceriley smile to herself.
"Will do."
"Come back to us alive and in one piece Agent Danvers." J'onn chuckled out, greately worried about her.
"I'll try my absolute best Sir." Alex assured."I must get going."
"Be safe. If anything goes south don't hesitate to alert me or your sister. Don't try to take on too many danger yourself. You aren't invincible like Kara or me." J'onn said in a stern voice.
"Yes Sir. I know but just know I'll try my best." With that she disconnected the earpiece.
Alex quickly but silently found a way to sneak down from the low cliff she was on, hiding behind what appears to be broken weapon that's mounted in a wall, peeking around the corner and scanning for guards, spotting one near.
Alex let out a soft huff, looking at the dirty ground, spotting a medium sized rock, bending down to quickly grab it and pressing herself back against the wall.
"This better work." Alex said softly under her breath, clutching the rock tightly before she threw it against an empty tank with a hole in a good few feet at the guards left, creating a clank sound, immediately gaining the guard near hers attention.
Alex held in her breath as the guard slowly walked in the direction where the sound came from, gun pointed and ready to shoot, one hand going to active his ear piece but he didn't get far before Alex sneaked up behind him, hitting him behind the head to knock him out, letting out the breath she was holding in as the guard lay passed out.
She dragged him behind the wall she first used, making sure he wouldn't be spotted before she dashed to the side of the warehouse, hiding behind everything she could, keeping an eye out for more guards but spotted none, figuring that most have went to talk with the other two guards that were talking and joking loudly.
Alex noticed rusted faint blue stairs at the side of the warehouse that led to an second floor entrance.
"And there's my way in." Alex said to herself softly, palm pressed against the cold metal container she's hiding behind as she did another quick scan of her surroundings before she made a fast paced run for the stairs, hands gripping the cold metal railings as she softly made her way up them, the hairs on her neck raising as the sounds grow even louder now accompanied by an eerie faint shimmering swooch sound that grows louder with each step.
Alex lifted her hand to the rusty knob, pushing it open when realizing it isn't locked, making sure there aren't any guards nearby before entering.
Tumblr media
"Some security they are." Alex said sarcasticaly.
She kept hidden in the dark corners, trying to focus on the task at hand instead of the awful steely stence of blood that fills the air, even noticing said dried blood along the rusty floor, making her even more on edge.
Upon walking past a huge crate she could see various alien weapons, a few barrels with a glimmering green substance in, cages with dead alien people in that makes her pull a distsgusted face, briefly closing her brown eyes in sympathy for the aliens before moving to look over the railing that goes down to the first floor, spotting more weapons, guards, diffrent substance in racks of vails and more cages filled with aliens with some tied down to chairs while the scientist were performing diffrent opperations on them, dread filling her heart and rage at the people for doing such things.
Alex spotted a blue cube office near the corner on the other side of the stairs.
"Bingo." Alex said to herself, having a good guess that the information she came for must be in there.
When she went to take a step down the stairs she was suddenly knocked down the few stairs by a force from behind, landing on the rusty cold hard floor with a loud yelp.
"Well, well. What have we here? A lost DEO girl scout." A male said in a manic voice as he stepped down the stairs making Alex flinced at every clank the man's dirty boots made against the metal stairs.
Alex pused her palms against the floor, trying to get up but another man came from behind, kicking her back down with his foot, keeping it pressed down on her back hard as the barrel of the the other guard's gun pressed against her forehead, growling lowly when the guard behind her yank her head up with her hair, forcing her to look up at the one that have pushed her down the stairs, a sinister scowl/smirk present as he kept his gun against her temple.
"Time for some fun." The other one snickered, grip tightening on her hair.
🐺🐾🐺🐾🐺🐾🐺🐾🐺🐾🐺🐾🐺🐾🐺🐾
Whoop another cliffhanger for ya'll lovies. Sorry for the long wait, it took me a damn long time to get insperation to finish the chapter, hope you guys enjoy it.

Because I have been lonely, I value love.
-Leonard Nimoy
----------------------------------------------------------
“How’s your business tycoon of a boyfriend doing?”
The immediate reaction of yours should have been an eye roll but instead, you ended up dropping the empty whiskey glass that you were cleaning. You gasped as the glass broke, sending sparkling bits scattering here and there. To say you were a little distracted was an understatement . Whatever had happened between Namjoon and you was consuming your senses completely. You had come close to kissing him, twice and every single time you were interrupted either by your thoughts or someone else. You were confused and…angry? You couldn’t tell.
Did you want him or did you not?
You sighed, crouching down to pick up the broken pieces as your coworker, Isla, towered over you.
“He’s not my boyfriend. How many times are you going to make me say it?” You muttered, your voice laced with annoyance and frustration. Annoyed, because Isla kept calling Namjoon your boyfriend. Frustrated, because it wasn’t true, no matter how much a part of you wanted it to be.
You carefully cleaned the shiny marble floor, the bar counter hiding you from the eyes of your manager, a very moody and rude man who had no respect for his workers whatsoever. Surprisingly, he wasn’t the perverted kind at all. That was probably the one thing that made you stay, along with the money, of course.
“Oh come on, Y/N! If Mr Kim isn’t your boyfriend now, he will be very soon. I can tell that you like him a lot. And you even stay under the same roof. You want me to believe that a man and a woman can stay together without-“
“Maybe you should focus on restocking the bottles rather than prying into Ms Y/L/N’s domestic affairs.”
Your eyes widened, your head jerking up to see your manager glaring at Isla. You winced, crawling towards the bin to throw all the glass bits you had collected, knowing that Isla was probably being burnt to the ground by your manager’s eyes. He was scary, more than Hitler. Okay, that was a bit of exaggeration on your part but he was horrifying, nonetheless.
“Sorry sir, I’ll get to work right now.” Isla apologised in a small voice and you swore this was the first time she sounded so weak. Isla was a very driven person, capable of a lot of things but when problems stood before her, she preferred to cower away. That loud and giddy girl existed only in front of you. It was a surprise that within a week you had managed to grow so close to someone.
Isn’t it the same with Namjoon?
You pursed your lips, moving to help Isla before the club opened for the night.

"Namjoon, just because you're doing what your father wants you to do, doesn't mean you're a bad person."
Hana's words kept replaying in Namjoon's mind, like a broken record player that he was unable to fix. There had been so much warmth and love in her voice that Namjoon had thought he was dreaming. He was only 19 when his father pushed him into the Mafia business, his mother running away soon after she saw him making his first kill. To this day, Namjoon wished it had all been a dream. His father breaking the awful news to him. His mother leaving. Hana dying, only to come back alive as someone who didn't wanna stand by him anymore.
Maybe if it had all been a dream, then Namjoon's life would have been better. Maybe he would have lived like a normal guy with a normal job and a normal family. Everything would have been so perfect.
Namjoon clenched his jaw as the car came to a halt, the club's name flashing in the darkness of the night. It was a few minutes past 9, everyone's anxiety growing bigger than they could ever imagine.
"Okay so, just a recap. We'll be scattered around, trying to blend in until Hana comes and we confront her." Rex confirmed, earning a groan from Jungkook who was seated beside Namjoon in the backseat along with Yoongi.
"Once again, this isn't a movie. We aren't gonna go to her until she's done talking to whoever she's planning on meeting." Jungkook replied, his eyes glaring at Rex who sighed in disappointment and sulked in his place. The others were in the car that followed behind, hoseok's voice ringing in the earpiece that all of them had.
"She could be here any minute, we should go in."
There was heavy silence for a second, the air very thick and suffocating. Jungkook knew he had lost his favourite person, she wasn't the same Hana now and he had to let her go. The girl that used to be his link to the innocence of the world was gone and he let it happen. No matter how much he told himself that it wasn't his fault, he failed to believe it.
"Let's just get this over with." Yoongi muttered under his breath, pushing open the door of the car and stepping out onto the gravel. It was a cold night, Yoongi's blue suit jacket doing nothing to keep him from getting cold. The only thing keeping him warm was the adrenaline rushing in his veins, a subtle ache in his heart on seeing Namjoon's grim expression. Whatever was gonna happen, Yoongi could only hope they all would be okay again. To him, this wasn't that big of a surprise because he saw it coming. But Namjoon and Jungkook, he knew they were hurt. Very hurt.
As the club loomed over them, they all glanced at each other, Jungkook's eyes falling on Namjoon towards the end. There was a silent message being passed, Namjoon's eyes softening at the look of betrayal in the younger's eyes. In that moment, Namjoon swore he was gonna be strong for the rest of the members. He had to step up as the leader and take care of everyone. He didn't worry about himself too much because he knew. He knew that at the end of the day, he'd go home and he'd find you waiting for him with the smile you wore all the time. Maybe someday he'd be able to tell you what you had done to his heart, but for now, he knew he'd be okay.

You placed the different glasses of drinks on your tray, moving through the crowd as you kept track of which glass goes on which table. The mass of bodies grinding against one another in the middle of the dancefloor, made it difficult for you to navigate your way through but you had to do it. This was probably why Isla always took charge of the other end of the club. That was the VIP section. You shook your head in envy, grabbing the glass of beer and placing it on a single table where a man with a black cap sat, bobbing his head and looking around the club. "Enjoy your drink." You stated, your robotically sweet tone having been perfected with practice. It was the same everytime, no matter who you were serving. The man looked up at you as you passed by him, not noticing his face in the flashy lights that reflected throughout the place.
Rex was positive he had seen that face before. It wasn't very clear in his mind but he knew he had seen those eyes.
The only question that remained was when?
He narrowed his eyes, thinking hard about who it was. That waitress had a very familiar face but he couldn't put a finger on where he had seen her.
"Rex, I see you zoning out. There's a man at the bar who just arrived, he looks like he's waiting for someone, keep an eye on him."
Namjoon's voice rung in Rex's ears, making him flinch at the suddenness of it. He quickly shook himself back to reality, eyes falling on the man who had, indeed, just arrived. Nonetheless, he saw the same waitress again, picking up another round of drinks as she laughed at something her colleague said. Rex wondered if Namjoon could see her. Maybe he'd know who she was, because the curiosity was killing him. He had such a bad memory, that's probably why he failed half his tests in school.
"Hey boss. Do you see that girl at the bar? The waitress? The one with the ponytail?"
The response was immediate, all the members' heads turning to look at who Rex was talking about. Namjoon couldn't see very clearly, only the back of that waitress was visible to him. But upon seeing her, he felt something familiar, like he knew her.
"You don't actually have to describe her, there's only one waitress there." Jungkook snapped, glaring in Rex's direction from the corner of the room. He was just growing irritated at how long it took Hana to get there, nothing personal against Rex. No matter how annoying the kid was.
Rex pursed his lips, seeing that there was only one waitress there, thankfully it was the one who he wanted to ask about.
"So does anyone of you know her? I think I've seen her before but I can't remember. Help me out, my dudes. I'm dying out of curiosity."
Jimin rolled his eyes at Rex's words. My dudes? He was definitely not fit for being in a gang. Yoongi narrowed his eyes, shifting a little in his place but he still couldn't see her. Seeing that there was no sign of Hana yet, he decided to move closer to her, pushing through the dancing bodies until he was in the clear. Under the colourful lights, he somehow managed to see that face. The one that made his eyes immediately move to Namjoon who was standing on the floor above. Before Yoongi could do anything, he saw the way Namjoon's lips parted in surprise, his eyes stuck to your figure hunched over the bar table.
"Is that...." Hoseok voiced, still trying to come to grip with the situation. They were here to find Hana but looks like there was someone much more interesting there.
"..Y/N." Taehyung added, glancing at Namjoon who had his jaw clenched, his fingers tightening against the railing as he glared at you. Not that you knew. He had been caught way off guard, finally catching onto your lies. You worked at a cafe? Bullshit.
Jungkook raised his eyebrows, taking in your appearance. A pretty one, he wasn't going to deny that. Your eyes were very... expressive. They shined under the lights, telling everyone that you were content with how your life was going. For a second, Jungkook saw the same flash of innocence that he used to find solace in. The only difference was that you weren't Hana. He cleared his throat, looking at Namjoon and concluding that no one knew about your little job. Oh.
So the new girl was a liar.
That thought made Jungkook feel better. A part of him blamed you for whatever was happening, but he also knew he had no reasons to hate you yet. You seemed like a good person, he could understand why Namjoon took you in. He would have probably done the same anyway.
You patiently waited for the bartender to make the next round of drinks, your elbow resting on the shiny black counter as you looked around the club. You hummed a little tune to yourself, feeling grateful that tonight there had been no catcalls or inappropriate comments directed to you. It had been a good day, you were sure of it. You wondered what Namjoon was doing, recalling how he had told you he had a meeting to attend. He surely had a very tiring job.
Your eyes wandered to where Isla was standing, her expression distraught as she tried to get her hand out of a stranger's grip. You immediately straightened up, your breath hitching as he pulled Isla onto his lap, his companions laughing at the scene. You were fuming at this point, your feet taking off in her direction, ignoring the calls of the bartender behind you as your shoulder brushed against Yoongi's. But you didn't notice.
Every single member had his eyes trained on you, watching in confusion as you ran to the other end of the club. Right then, Rex happened to look at the entrance, a hooded figure making its way to the mysterious man that was sitting near the bar. He inhaled deeply, looking back at you and then the others. No one was paying attention.
"Guys, Hana's here I think."
At that, everyone's eyes shot to the bar, where Hana took off her hood and began having a serious conversation with the mystery man. Jungkook's blood boiled at the very sight. He was surprised at how quickly he began to hate her but anyone who hurt his family was his enemy. No matter the reasons. He saw Namjoon, fuming and making his way downstairs. Wrong move.
"Let her go." You bellowed over the music, prying the man's hand off of Isla's waist and pulling her to you. She was crying by the time you came, hiding behind you as she sobbed into her hands. You weren't gonna lie that you weren't scared when he stood up but this was no time for that. It was time for you to be strong, to learn to protect yourself.
"And what do you think you're doing?" The drunk man seethed, clenching his fists as the people around you stopped their activities to see what was going on. You breathed heavily, taking a step forward. "I'm sorry but you cannot touch a woman without her consent. We can throw you out for inappropriate behaviour towards the employees." You stated calmly, reminding yourself that you still had a job to keep. Hopefully, your manager would see that you were on the right.
Namjoon was joined by Yoongi as he made his way towards you, his eyes burning holes in the back of your head. You had a lot of explaining to do but that was for later. Right now, he could tell you were getting yourself in trouble. Jungkook discreetly pushed his way towards Namjoon, walking beside him.
"What are you doing? Hana is there and this is gonna grab too much attention." He explained, only to hear a scoff from Namjoon. The leader halted, turning to Jungkook as he stared at him with cold eyes. "Y/N needs to be taken out of here. We don't need to wait for Hana to see us. Go and do what needs to be done." He instructed, earning a reluctant nod from the younger male.
"Oh baby, did you want to be in her place? You just have to ask, you know?" You wanted to throw up at the stench of alcohol in his breath. You were beyond disgusted, your head bringing back unwanted memories when you used to be treated like this by strange men. You swallowed thickly as his friends laughed, his hand inching closer to you. Just as his fingers grazed your skin, he was punched to the side, his body landing on the floor with a loud thud. You gasped, your eyes widening as you looked at whoever had saved you.
Namjoon's eyes looked back into yours with anger and disappointment, your heart fluttering on seeing him but you knew it was over. What you didn't want him to find out, was laid out before him in the clear.
"Namjoon..."

Time Hauls A Silver Tide
Also on AO3
Fandom: Bungo Stray Dogs
Characters: Chuuya, Dazai, Atsushi, others.
Pairings: Dazai/Chuuya
Notes: Pseudo-soulmates AU. Coloursverse. Previous fic in the series is “A Faint Pale Rainbow”, which is Dazai’s side of the same story, but you don’t need to have read that first.
Summary: Chuuya can't see as many colours as most. He doubts he ever will, so most of the time it doesn't bother him so much. The ones he needs are right there, after all.
Until suddenly, they aren't, because he looks at Dazai and he's covered in grey.
...
Chuuya had only ever seen in black and white from the moment he was born. Which, for him, was far more recent than most. He had crawled out of a crater in a seven year old body, and known nothing about the world other than the fact that, suddenly, he existed.
Chuuya, he had said when a kid older than his supposed age had found him, asked what his name was, some weeks later. Nakahara Chuuya.
Was it really his name? Did even really belong to him?
It had been what had automatically come out of his mouth, though, so he hadn't questioned it. He had needed to be and to belong more than he had needed truth, and the need for some sort of truth would come later. Could come later, once he was prepared to face it.
They held a piece of paper up to him, and he scowled with all the power of a seven year old god when asked what colours he could see.
Some of us can see different colours, they said. Not just back and grey and white.
He'd just stared at them, and they'd almost ignored him, passing him off as useless until one of them shoved at him more than he liked, and he sent them flying without even thinking about it.
It turned out that colour didn't matter when you could fight instead.
...
At first he's something of a lucky charm, and then later on as he grows older and learns how to fight, he becomes the strength and might of the Sheep.
He looks after them, defends them, tells them off when they get rash and stupid and go into the wrong areas of town. Teaches the younger ones some of the things he's learned over the years, and gets into arguments with the older kids.
He watches as one by one, each of the younger kids they've picked up over the years grow up, and each of them gain their first colours, as they make friends and fall in love and have stupid crushes on other Sheep - or drag their supposed true love into the fold.
A cute little kid asks him, when he's fourteen and he's pointing out some of the ways you can tell colours apart just by shade and placement and what colours usually go where, because it's useful to know this shit, you don't wanna suddenly tell someone the sky's red when it isn't, or that the grass is a beautiful shade of blue-
"But - what if I never get colours and none of this is ever going to mean anything because I never meet anyone who's that important to me?"
Chuuya's mouth goes dry.
He belatedly realises that he's still holding a crayon - maybe red? - in midair.
"I... I guess it isn't normal, but it's not like it's unheard of. That's why they label stuff, see?" Her face drops. He isn't helping. "Besides, you're a cute kid. Can't imagine a cute kid like you going around colourless all your life."
She seems better, after that.
He wishes he could take his own advice, and not worry about it so much.
Instead, he's reminded of how many people he's met and known, and how he just seems to never mean quite enough.
The more he thinks about it, the more he wonders if maybe colour is far too human a thing for him to have aimed at attaining, when his main memory of what he's more than just started to realise is the same as what everyone calls Arahabaki, is just a being of pure destruction with no need for colour, or connection.
...
He first begins to see the blues of the sky in Mori's office, arguing with the suicidal brat, and at first he doesn't even notice.
Eight years of nothing other than black-grey-white, and he hadn't known what to expect, because he'd all but given up on the idea by this point, and now this.
He's able to keep ahold of himself at least - holds back the worst of the staring, keeps himself from going wide-eyed at everything like some damn tourist who's never been to Japan before, let alone Yokohama, which would've been annoying, given this was where he was from, and in many ways, it was where he'd been born, the only place he'd ever known, and yet-
It felt like seeing everything brand new. Through new eyes. And this was just one colour.
It's new enough and novel and wondrous enough that he's relieved when he can barely see the sky or the sea during their fight with Randou, and that none of the combatants were wearing blue.
(Dazai's ability activating didn't normally glow that brightly, but then, usually it didn't cancel out an ability that big, that powerful, with that much range. He finds himself staring a little too long and a little too awe-struck at Dazai's face, then. Knowing damn well who was to blame for the extra colour in his world, and for just a moment, unable to hate him for it. Hate the fact that it's Dazai, rather.)
It's easy to forget who Dazai is.
And then he's gone, vanishing off back to the mafia, leaving Chuuya to pick up the pieces with the blue sky and the blue sea and the first time he looks in a mirror since mouthing off back in the mafia's headquarter's, he sees his eyes - blue, bright blue.
He curls up around himself that night, leg still hurting, and he blames the tears on the pain and the shock of realising how close he'd come to dying, only to lose the first person who'd known exactly what he was and told him that being Chuuya was enough.
He's left feeling like he's lost something without it having even had a chance to start, the idea that if he'd known Rimbaud longer, maybe... maybe, he would have had a second colour.
Apparently, though, kicking a scrawny brat into a wall and then arguing was enough for one, but a few conversations and two life-changing events just aren't enough for the other-
Most of all, though, the heaving sobs that come for him and steal his breath are for the fact that he can see colour at all, and that this means that either it doesn't matter what he was, or - or maybe, he's human enough as he is.
...
The first hints of red flow into his world like sunset as Mori explains what being a leader means, and he realises at long last what it was that he'd been missing for so long.
It seeps into the chair the Boss is sitting in, the Boss' scarf, the carpet, even the rim of the hat he's now holding.
He'd sworn to destroy every last one of the Port Mafia, but here he is, and he feels more alive than ever in spite of the still throbbing knife wound in his side.
(Red also becomes the colour of blood, which makes him pause before applying just a bit more gravity on the unlucky bastard, because knowing and seeing were two different things.
It made sense, in a way, that the same colour he'd been given by the Boss was the colour of the blood that he had to spill to keep Yokohama's nightlife in check, and remind them who was in charge.)
When he looks in the mirror now, he sees red hair, a little too grey to be truly the shade of scarlet that Mori had imparted to him, but close enough he could see what it looked like, for the first time.
A little more of Chuuya that he could accept as his, as real, as someone and something that belonged somewhere.
...
By the time he meets Dazai in that hallway, Kouyou has already begun to give him pink, and that's enough colours to make the light of the stained glass almost unbearable to look at-
Not to mention, in spite of how insufferable he's being, in spite of so much else still being kept in monotone, he can see in stark relief the way that Dazai's face goes from pink to red and all of the places he flushes, and like hell is he giving in, because if anyone around here is an attention seeking dog it isn't Chuuya.
(Even so, he also refuses to admit he enjoys seeing all of the different ways he can make Dazai flush red. Far too many of them at his expense, and the last thing he wants is to encourage the bratty kid to get worse.)
...
Work and responsibilities drive him into having less time, once he gets the role of executive, but he never stops seeing blue, or red, or pink, and when he'd heard people talking openly about how they'd woken up one day for work only to have a colour fade, he's worried himself more times than he can count by the idea that the next time he looks at the sky, it will have faded to a dull tone.
Dazai doesn't seem to care. Dazai just keeps on throwing himself into danger, the way he'd said he was all too happy to the moment he'd admitted he'd wanted to give being in the Port Mafia a go.
It shouldn't shock or surprise him anymore.
He still sighs with relief when the sky is the same as always.
...
And then Dazai leaves, without a word, and his car had been targeted with a bomb, so he can't even go after him.
Dazai leaves.
Dazai leaves, and doesn't come back, and he half expects the sky to turn grey regardless, because everything he'd ever started to trust had been right there, and now one of those pillars, as frustrating and aggravating as he was-
Dazai was gone.
The sense of betrayal feels like it should mean something. That it should do something.
Instead, the sky is as blue as ever, and the sea sparkles, and his eyes stare back at him, bright and hard and dull and scared and alone-
He hates it. He hates what Dazai makes him feel like - vulnerable and only half of what he could be, and he hates that it's Dazai who makes him feel so human, and he isn't even here for it.
...
He had barely interacted with Akutagawa before Dazai had betrayed the organisation, but now, he's somehow wound up becoming a subordinate. He spars against the kid from time to time, and the way he flinches sometimes pisses Chuuya off, because if you're gonna fight someone stronger than you, the last thing you need is to give them an opening.
Even so, it comes as a sort of dull surprise when Akutagawa comes back from a mission one day with dark spots marring his features, and when Chuuya gets close enough to force the kid to slow down and stop pretending he's fine, he realises it's not just a mix of pink-grey-red, but there's purple mixed in as well.
He tells Akutagawa to go put ice on those bruises before they swell up further, and to tell Mori or a medic if they do get worse, before dismissing him.
Purple, he thinks to himself later, lost in the irony of it. A mixture of red and blue. Someone Dazai left behind, but Mori put him in my care. Just figures, doesn't it.
...
When he comes down the steps to the cell they'd been keeping Dazai in, he isn't lying when he says that Dazai looks like a masterpiece, hung up like that to dry. It was what he deserved, after all - for being a damn traitor, for working with the enemy, for leaving him behind like that.
The fact that Dazai isn't dressed in what had once been clearly just a plain black suit, a suit that hadn't left anything to the imagination, that hadn't been interesting or eye-catching, causes him to blink.
Grey.
Dazai is covered head to toe in grey.
Colours Chuuya can't see, reminders that Dazai had people in his life who'd given him colours Chuuya didn't have.
It's enough to piss him off even more than he already was, because how the hell did someone like Dazai earn the right to that? Someone who manipulated and harassed other people, and had constantly left Chuuya wondering if he'd ever had a shred of human decency or compassion?
How dare you, his fists say. You don't deserve those colours.
He holds Dazai up by the throat, and holds his knife up to the skin above the bandages, close, close enough to see red pooling around the sheen of the blade, feeling satisfaction at the sight of the dark bruises that are already forming on the little skin Dazai is showing.
I hate you, he thinks, and the feeling doesn't dissipate after he's forced to let Dazai go, and it sits pooling in the pit of his stomach once he's already left.
...
His world goes grey whenever he enters Corruption.
He'd told Dazai once, when they were sixteen and he was scared, more scared of what going completely colourblind had felt like - what it could mean - than of Dazai using it against him.
He always had. Expected Dazai to use it against him, that is, and yet... he hadn't.
What do you think it means, he'd asked, needing some sort of answer even if it was just made up to piss him off, and Dazai had said I've heard that dogs are colourblind, and it'd done the job.
It's also the reason why he hates using Corruption at night more than he hates using Corruption in the daytime.
In the daytime it feels jarring, because even anyone who's used to violence is used to it not escaping the night, but the night brings darkness and muted colours, so when the monochrome begins to fade out and and wash away, it's slower than it should be, more muted than he'd like, and he finds himself shaking in Dazai's grip as Corruption loses its hold on him and yet at the same time, he's still worried that the lingering aftereffects haven't gone away yet.
He collapses to the ground of the crater he'd made, the strength leaving him and with Dazai's hand gone, nothing to keep him upright.
Feels Dazai's eyes on him, as he's peering down at him like, like- like he's playing some sick show of being concerned.
A show that's betrayed by the way that when he does crouch down to be more on Chuuya's level, when he berates Dazai for not stopping him sooner, Dazai just says that he could have, but he'd been having fun.
The bastard.
"I used Corruption," he manages to get out, "because I trusted you..."
He trails off, staring at Dazai's chest, now that his bandaged arms aren't in the way.
Feels like he should say something else, but the words are all lost.
"That's blue," he says instead.
Dazai blinks. Looks down.
"You didn't notice before? I thought I'd add some colour."
The words spin in his head, the anger and confusion and hope and love and hate clashing to the point where the only thing he can think to do is put the last of his energy into a single punch aimed at Dazai's chest.
It's pitiable, how he knows damn well that an hour or two ago he could have knocked Dazai back into the trees even without the use of his ability, but after Corruption his words from back in the cell are coming back to bite him - you call that a punch? That's barely even a massage.
The last thing he sees as he topples sideways, is Dazai smiling.
...
(The words won't leave him alone, even well after he wakes up and Dazai is gone.
I thought I'd add some colour.
They both knew damn well that Dazai wasn't actually just wearing grey - that there were things he had, that Chuuya didn't.
I thought I'd add-
But Dazai had chosen to wear blue.
Dull and almost unnoticed in between the stripes of his shirt.
I thought-
Bright and shining in the moonlight, glimmering and ready to catch Chuuya's eye when Chuuya needed it most.
I thought I'd add some colour, Dazai had said, and Chuuya heard I thought of you.)
...
It takes a while for him to get back on even ground with himself.
He curses Dazai's name in the celebration he, the Boss, and Kouyou all share for the fact that Yokohama's been saved.
Swears that he isn't mother henning Akutagawa, thank you very much, unless you want to call practically locking him in until he's sure the kid has rested after that fight, and threatening to confiscate the damn coat until he's sure he isn't just going to pull a Dazai and walk out half dead on his feet.
He finds himself walking the route to the Agency's dorms when he should be going home one day, absent-minded and with more focus on the sky than where he's going, which is how he winds up almost - but not quite - walking straight into the weretiger Akutagawa's so hung up on.
"Eh- Nakahara-san?"
He blinks.
"You're doing better than Akutagawa," he says without thinking.
For a moment he wonders what the kid's gonna do with that information, but then the weretiger just... sighs.
"He pushes himself like he thinks he has to prove something to the world with every fight he gets into, that's why," the kid muttered out, just loudly enough Chuuya could hear him and snort, getting a startled look and a flushed face for his trouble. "Sorry. I didn't mean to-"
"Nah, it's fine. That sounds just like him, actually. I've been trying to get him to take better care of himself for years now."
The kid deflates - relaxes, really - and laughs nervously before looking at Chuuya in an almost expectant way.
"Were you... looking for someone?"
He could deny it. He probably should. He could snap and say it was none of the kid's business-
He doesn't, though. Not only because there wouldn't be any point this close to where Dazai might come out of the woodwork at any moment, but because the kid didn't deserve any of it.
He sighs, and looks away, and winds up staring at the cloudy sky, the sun set but the light not quite having disappeared from the horizon yet. Pale blues mix with near-blacks, and he can see every last one of them.
"Yeah... I was wondering if the grey bandaged bastard was around."
"Grey-? Oh... you mean Dazai-san, right?" He doesn't wince, at the reminder that Dazai wasn't grey to everyone else. "He... I think Kunikida-san wanted him to stay later than usual to finish up some reports that suddenly became relevant in a recent case. If you need to tell him something, I can pass a message along?"
He-
Can't.
His mouth goes dry.
"Thanks," he says instead, "but you don't have to. It can wait." He didn't think he could ask this sort of thing through a proxy. It'd be like passing notes in class where the teacher can see them - not that he's ever been able to do anything like that. He doesn't know about Dazai, though. The closest is when they'd tried to tap out morse code messages while they were being reprimanded by Mori. "But - can I ask you something without you telling Dazai for me?"
The kid froze awkwardly, as if only just now remembering that he was chatting away with a Port Mafia executive. It would've been cute if it weren't frustrating.
"I, uh - that- that depends on what you want to know...?"
"Relax, kid-"
"Atsushi."
"Atsushi, then." He left off the honorific. He didn't use it with Dazai, or Akutagawa, or anyone really. Besides, they were technically not on the same side, so a bit of disrespect didn't mean love lost."Relax, I just - wanted to- you know what colours he's wearing, don't you?"
"You can't- oh. I didn't mean... I'm sorry."
"Don't. Just... don't."
He just stands there. He doesn't know if the kid's going to just stare at him with pity until he walks away, but he's got more pride than to be the first one to move.
"...Brown," Atsushi says at last, and it feels like it's been way too fucking long. "He has a tan brown coat, and light brown trousers, and a dark brown waistcoat," he carries on, and each word hurts, because the kid's just standing there and pointing out his weaknesses in the middle of the street. "The leather of his tie is, and so are his hair and his eyes."
Chuuya laughs, and it breaks off when he realises how much he must have given away just by the look in his own eyes, and the way he'd sounded so broken, even just to himself, but he can't help but ask-
"Who the hell gave you that colour?"
The weretiger looks back at him, mostly black-and-white, but with almost full-grey eyes that were somewhat purple near the pupil, near the middle, and he smiles.
"That would be Dazai-san," he said, as if he wasn't just saying something that most people kept private, as if he didn't even think of that. "And, I hope that things work out for you, Nakahara-san."
Something about the way the kid looks at him, the way he just accepts, and the way he wasn't even sure if that was pity anymore, something about any one of those things or just one - takes the wind out of him.
"You might as well call me Chuuya," he says, and sees Atsushi smile - brightly - before he turns away.
...
He answers the call, and doesn't come running, but he comes all the same.
You know what this means, don't you, they all tell him, one way or another.
Like hell he doesn't know what they all think. He doesn't care what they all think.
The blues are fading, he'd realised earlier. I can still see them, but-
He hadn't been able to finish the thought, because the idea that they'd just keep fading until they were just a shadow of what they'd been is one he's not about to entertain today.
He'd worried about it enough other times, growing up, and more than he ever should have in the past four years. But not today.
The bastard didn't get to die on him today.
...
"You know when's a good time to chicken out and go home?
"I- no. What is?"
"Never, that's when." Everyone's telling me that bastard's dead. But- "Especially not while I can still see this much blue."
He hurls himself off the helicopter with a run, and chants those damn words in midair.
(There are no guarantees, he remembered reading once. From the viewpoint of fear, none are strong enough. From the viewpoint of love, none are necessary.
He doesn't remember who wrote it, but hell if they didn't know what they were talking about.)
...
He still can't see brown when Dazai touches him and brings him back, and the suit is all black-and-white apart from the tie, which is a washed out and ugly grey. Dazai's eyes, when he sees them, are wide and grey, and he knows damn well that the grey in Dazai's hair isn't from age.
None of that matters, though, because he's completely surrounded by the blue of No Longer Human.
He won't admit it, but-
Shitty suit and colours he can't see or not, he still thinks this is the most beautiful he's ever seen Dazai.
...
"If you wanted a kiss, you could've just asked for one, asshole," he grumbles out, the curses and grudging frustration betrayed by his words.
He's slumped across Dazai's shoulder, anyway. The only dignity he'd been able to reclaim was that he wasn't caught with his head practically shoved between Dazai's legs.
"Dogs give the worst kisses," he hears Dazai say, and the only reason (other than being too damn exhausted to move a muscle still) why he doesn't hit him again just for that, is the distant way he's talking, because he knows Dazai as well as Dazai knows him. You don't get that kind of depth from one colour if you don't. Dazai's... scared. "I much preferred the idea of being given one from a prince."
"You're the worst," he mutters out, and hears - feels - Dazai sigh, his hand on Chuuya's neck not moving. "You could've just asked," he says again.
He could swear he could almost feel Dazai's heart stop beating, his lungs stop taking in air.
He forces himself, with what little energy he'd managed to regain, to push up, out far enough that he could see Dazai's face.
"Don't," Dazai says, sounding like he's just been choked.
Dazai's hand slips-
Chuuya lets himself fall forward, like it's a parody of before, trusting Dazai to catch him again, which he does, but this time he has Dazai's hands on his chest, stopping him from just plain falling onto him entirely, and his mouth on Dazai's. It's about the least romantic thing he can think of and they can laugh about it later.
Right now, he's caught by the way that those not-grey eyes are wide open, staring at him.
"Chuuya is beautiful," Dazai says, before gently setting him back down, before they both wind up worse off than before.
He doesn't let go. Chuuya doesn't let go.
He wonders what Dazai sees, when he looks at him.
...
"...Atsushi was the one who suggested the truce between the Agency and the Port Mafia," Dazai says some time later, by several weeks. They're on a bench by the prettier side of the docks, and the sun's setting over the water. A beautiful mix of red and blue. "The only way he could have come to that conclusion would be while he was either on or falling from the Moby Dick, in an attempt to get Q's doll to me, so that I could nullify the ability and breast the curse."
Chuuya blinks, and thinks back to that time. It's not something he likes to think back on. They'd lost too many good people.
"I don't see what that's got to do with me," he says, trying to push the subject away.
"Really? I certainly found it interesting. Because although he was able to see dark reds before then... it was only after that, that he began to be able to see burnt orange."
"That's... seriously?"
"I wouldn't lie about a thing like this, Chuuya. I believe he respects you."
Who the hell gave you that colour?, he remembered asking, and he laughs.
"And why d'you think I should know that, anyway?"
Trust shitty Dazai to tell him other peoples' secrets. It shouldn't have been his to tell.
"Because I thought you should know," Dazai says. "You deserved-" He looks out at the sea. For once, the first time he can remember, Dazai's eyes don't just glaze over the parts of the sky that aren't red. "To know. That he was the one I found my blue in."
When Dazai turns to him, eyes wide, leaning in, it leaves his mouth dry for reasons entirely nothing to do with kissing, because he knows this isn't a kissing thing.
His new subordinate-
Oh, he finds himself thinking.
Because it isn't anything about them, it's about Dazai trying to say to someone, that he'd improved, he'd become better.
Akutagawa had never given him anything. Not even the purple that Chuuya had. And when he saw Dazai now, he didn't think that'd changed. Guilt was no more a basis for a colour than pure hatred was, after all.
"You're an idiot, you dumb shitty mackerel," he says. "But... maybe this isn't such a bad look on you."
He might not be able to see the sunset the same way Dazai did now, lacking the gold he knew Dazai was able to see, but he could see the way the years had changed his old partner, and maybe it wasn't that bad, and maybe he was still bitter and angry, but maybe...
Maybe none of that mattered, because the wide-eyed looks Dazai still gave him from time to time were breathtaking.
Even if he couldn't see all of those shades of brown.
...
AN: The "There are no guarantees" lines are actually something I'd seen quoted by another author, and it turns out the source is Emmanuel Teney, if you're curious.
The title comes from "The Moon", one of IRL Chuuya's poems.
EDIT: Originally this was just going to be a second part or chapter of "A Faint Pale Rainbow", before I decided to make the Coloursverse into a series. Because of that, I almost forgot that I'd accidentally deleted a clarification:
Randou/Rimbaud does indeed give Chuuya a colour, but because colours tend to seep in rather than come in all at once, the colour that he would have given to Chuuya never had a chance to set, since the first time Chuuya felt any positive influence from Rimbaud was while he was dying; effectively, the yellows stuck in a state of being never entirely desaturated. Which, unfortunately, also means Chuuya's never going to get that colour in future, since it does technically already exist for him.
