#diana wynne jones#howl's moving castle#Sir Not Appearing In This Poll#my DWJ posts#I'm not picking fights with that other DWJ poll I just have opinions apparently#and those opinions include “the genuinely best and most genius of DWJ's books are her standalone novels and that's that on THAT”#genuinely I don't think this poll will get nearly as much traction as the other one because Howl's Moving Castle is not involved and#look I love HMC as much as anyone else but there is a reason that DWJ is one of my favorite authors and HMC is absolutely not that reason#my personal favorite is Time of the Ghost though Fire & Hemlock and Black Maria are in close contention#but also I'll point at almost any of her standalone books and be like “this is also brilliant and here is why!” so yeah I dunno#I can often do the same for her series novels but her standalones tend to be genius in far stranger and unexpected ways and#and those strange unexpected brilliances tend to also be the exact reasons why DWJ is one of my favorite authors I guess

in remus' eyes, sirius was glowing. incandescent and of an unspoken brilliance, because no words can describe what sirius black is.
sirius is a god; sirius is gorgeous, long lashes and soft lips, black hair and mercury-gray eyes. there are no words that could encapsulate what sirius black was like, in remus' eyes.
sirius black was brash, and reckless, and never gave a shit about what everyone else had to say about him; he got into fights for those he loved, blood, crimson red, and bruises, purple and black, and remus would always be there to patch him up and gaze into his eyes, his heart thrumming in his chest, and sirius would just give him that sirius black grin.
sirius was witty, words always burning on his tongue, and he wasn't afraid to speak his mind and what he believed in. he seemed to wear his heart on his sleeve with those he loved, but he rarely let himself be truly vulnerable; remus knew that, james knew that, all of his friends knew that.
he kissed his friends goodbye and wore large t-shirts, and when he wore long sleeves they never were tight on his shoulders and arms, and his pants were always ripped. his nail polish was always chipped and the laces of his docs were always purple and yellow.
remus noticed the little things about sirius, someone who seemed to be known by everyone, yet few people knew what he really was like.
sirius black's kisses were remus lupin's little secret; teeth and tongue and lips and too much and too little, sirius' nails scraping against remus' back and his hand on remus' chest, his hand tangled in sirius' hair. sirius was angry and loud and reckless and loving him wasn't always pretty, but it was an explosion of feelings, spilling out of both of them, young and alive, two teenagers in love, their hearts out for the other to see, their bodies pressed together, remus and sirius, remus and sirius.
#this originally started as a post about sirius but then at the end it kind of is wolfstar#i have so many thoughts about remus and sirius as a young couple and i am sure that they weren't the prettiest couple out there because#<- they're very different people with big personalities and big personalities tend to clash and it's not always pretty to see that#i think that i was a pretty healthy relationship overall but there was definitely some toxicity to it especially after they were thrown in#<- the war. they didn't trust each other anymore etc etc and then my point with big personalities stands once again#also for the laces colors: back in the 70s in the punk community lace colors had different symbolism#yellow means anti racist and purple means gay pride#sirius black#remus lupin#wolfstar#(it's been a hot while ever since i've written wolfstar 😭)#my writing#also this was a prompt from an anon! anon writing prompt: glow brilliance incandescent. use all and any or none!

I am 14 hours into Disco Elysium, and I have many thoughts to say (mostly appreciative), but my biggest criticism is that for a game named after Disco and so clearly meant to invoke its cultural vibes, there's no actual disco music featuring in its OST
(or if there is I have not seen it yet)
#the bland navelgazy indie ambient rock soundtrack really does the complexity of narrative and worldbuilding a disservice#that's not touching on how the game seems insistent on only adopting the white aesthetic touchstones of the 1970s#when disco was more heavily than anything led by black artists#but i think that comes largely from the game being european#anyway. i have been playing this game obsessively and ranting to my bf about its brilliance please don't think this is a takedown#it's just like. the one part of the experience that could be so much better.#disco elysium#beansprouts commentates

my complete and utter hatred for the current production of chicago on broadway is never quite as vehement as when i see clips of the original 1975 production and how fucking mind-blowingly good it was. i mean come on. gwen verdon and chita rivera and jerry orbach. that staging. that choreography. the things i would do to see it are beyond imagination.

the more stressed and overwhelmed i get, the more my brain melts and my silly brain filters dissolve. so here are some more random tumblr posts.
A Black Lady Sketch is back with new episodes and I was watching this sketch over breakfast and losing what was left of my mind. It's a play on Verzuz rap battle, except with witches.

and here my witcher-addled brain can't help but think the Lodge of Sorceresses should totally make decisions based on who wins some rap battles based on their magical prowess and awesomeness. Yen vs Philippa? Margarita vs Keira?
Then my brain was like "but what about The Locked Tomb?" can't help but think some of those Houses would dominate in a battle like this.
What other magic users from various media and book fandoms should go up head to head and rap about their awesome magic skills? Crossovers welcome.
