"I'll be fine!" You tell Nico as you put on your heels "I promise I won't be back late.

"Do you have pepper spray?" He asks worriedly.

Ever since Bianca died, Nico has been more protective than you have of him. For such a young boy, he's been through so much - whether it be falling through Tartarus alone, Losing Bianca, then Losing Jason. He was still a child. A child who had grown up too fast.

You laugh. "Yes tesoro. And the drink cover, and the emergency knife." He sighs and hugs you with a small smile. "Promise me you''l be careful. Please."

You kiss his forehead. "I promise. I promise I'll be careful." You say as you step out the door "I love you Nico."

"Love you too." He whispers and closes the door. 6 hours after:

To say Nico was not worried was a lie and an understatement. He was worried out of his mind.

He tried calling you.

You didn't pick up.

He tried calling your friends.

They didn't pick up.

He defeatedly sat down on his bed. On the very edge of crying. What if something horrible had happened? He was about to go and look for you, when the phone rang.

"Hello?" Nico asked

"Is this Mr Di Angelo?"

"..Yes."

"..I am terribly sorry Mr Di Angelo, but your sister y/n has unfortunately passed. We did all we could to save h-"

He slammed the phone onto the bedside table, a single tear falling down his face. In his mind, repeating the words you said, the promise you made.

"I promise I'll be careful." "I promise I'll be careful." "I promise I'll be careful."

"I promise I'll be careful."

He threw his phone onto the floor and started to cry.

Later on, Nico went to the police station to actually find out what happened, because not knowing was eating him alive.

"A gunman came, looking for someone, but couldn't find who he was looking for, so he killed everyone in sight. No one survived. I'm sorry."

Time skip to after the funeral:

Nico lay on your former bed,still in his crinkled suit, when he felt something uncomfortable under the pillow. He lifted it up.

Your old camera.

He stared at it. It'd been so long, he thought you threw it away. It took him a few minutes to find out how it worked. But Nico eventually did. He saw something that surprised him.

A video album.

Not just that, but that video was taken a while ago. It was You,Nico and Bianca, when you were children - blowing bubbles and chasing them down the streets, another was Bianca and Nico playing hopscotch, another was you climbing a tree and helping Nico who was too scared, while Bianca yelled in encouragement. The memories brought tears from his eyes as he sighed and turned over onto his side.

First Maria. Then Bianca. Then Jason. Now you.

"You promised." he murmured.

But why was he surprised. Broken promises were the norm. It was just another broken promise.
