Do you ever think about how in Percy Jackson and the Olympians Poseidon offered Sally Jackson palace at the bottom of the sea to keep her safe but she turned it down. Hades offered to take Maria Di Angelo and her kids to the Underworld to protect them but she turned it down. then Zeus offered nothing to Beryl Grace but she would have taken it. there's something to be said there, it's definitely interesting but it's late and I'm tired.

In Defense of Thalia Grace
so in the past Percy episode Annabeth says that while Luke immediately cared for her Thalia was more hesitant and distant and had Annabeth “earn” her affection. People have called OOC, people have called needless change, people have called stupid Thalia and Athena parallel, people have opened season on Thalia and critiqued her every move since
And oh how quickly we forget our roots. Thalia was 6 years older than Jason. A child taking care of a baby trying to protect him from her unstable mother. She didn’t trust Beryl to care for him. She realized this as a child no older than Annabeth was. When Jason was taken she was dragged screaming and crying away from the site he was last seen. She thought her mothe had gone insane. After being disowned she left her house at 10 years old.
And then 2 years later she finds a little girl, only a couple months older than her baby brother. Who needs love and protection but she already gave someone her love and protection and that baby went missing Thalia maybe even thought he was dead at that point.
So of COURSE she was wary about taking in and caring for Annabeth. Not only did she fail to take care of a child once before (not her fault) but she ran the risk of getting hurt again.
It’s safe to assume that Thalia might’ve closed off after jason’s “death”. It must’ve been hard for her to have even trusted Luke! But to ask her to just, take in and care for another child that could end up just like her brother? Hell I’d be closed off too

thinking about jason’s scar. how he got it when he was two, and thalia was nine. how their mom didn’t take care of them. how thalia had to basically raise jason herself
do you think she was terrified when she saw him bleeding? do you think, at nine years old, she had to call an ambulance because beryl was too drunk?
how long do you think thalia looked for jason after beryl ‘lost’ him? do you think she sometimes saw a bit of jason in annabeth? do you think she eventually accepted that he must be dead? do you think it hurt her more than any monster ever could?
thinking about how they only met briefly a few times, on quests, before jason died. how thalia is a hunter and has to live without him again for possibly decades or centuries. how they never really got to be a family. how thalia had to mourn him not once, but twice.

thinking about how percy’s mother named him after perseus, one of the only greek heroes to have had a happy ending, in hopes that her son would avoid the tragedy that befell most heroes and instead have a long and fulfilling life. and how she told him that he would not only be a hero, but be the greatest hero of all. and how percy was ultimately declared to have risen above every hero in tlo and saw that he will live a long life and is implied that he will die peacefully.
thinking about how jason’s mother didn’t even want to name him jason and how he was only named after the greek hero in order to abate a goddess’s wrath. how that still wasn't enough, so she ended up abandoning him to the gods as a sacrifice of sorts. and how the main purpose of jason’s entire life from that point was to be in service of the gods. how jason the hero died miserable and alone. and how jason spent his last months adrift from everything and everyone he once knew and loved, and ultimately died alone.

Jupiter naming Jason, against Beryl's wishes because she didn't want his name to be Jason.
And his reasoning being that naming him after Juno's favourite hero would appease her.
So she wouldn't try to kill him.
But that doesn't make sense because the original Jason died partly because he lost his favour with Hera.
He broke his vow to love Madea and died alone on the rotting ship of the Argo.
Dying when he took a nap and the mast fell onto him.
Naming your child after the hero who disappointed your wife so badly she let him die.
... Doesn't feel like your trying to save him.
If anything, I think Jupiter saw Jason as a means to an end.
Hating the idea that a mortal pulled him in, instead of the other way around.
And felt she had power over him, baring a a child that looks just like her.
One that would be fated to fall in the line of service.
He named him after Juno's disappointment, just a reminder to get rid of him if he falls out of line.
Once his task is over, there will be no use for him.
What Jupiter didn't expect was that Juno would end up caring for her little champion.
Not enough to save him of course.
But enough to cry at his funeral, oh well she'd get over it.
They always do.
Except the look Apollo gives him, makes him wonder.

Having thoughts about how much Poseidon is willing to give/ do for Sally. He offers her a palace, to make her a queen and she declines. Yet in episode seven when she burns something discarded and unwanted he comes without question.
Maria was offered a life in the land of the dead, yet refused. After all it's no place for children. And when her life is in danger Hades is by her side, even if in the end he is too late.
Yet Beryl, who would have taken anything Zeus had to offer, was never truly loved. She was coveted, in the same way she coveted fame and fortune. He was never going to care for her as a full person as she never cared for herself or others.
I think of these women and the string that ties them together, I think of Maria and Beryl's lives cut short. I think of May Castellan. I think of the price of loving a god.

Thalia stood by where her tree stood. Although she was still trying to gain back the feeling of the air and wind, she focused on the flower crowns that littered the ground. Some of the flowers were even so crisp that they seemed as though they had been sitting there for years.
The person responsible finally flickered into her mind. Y/N.
She and y/n sat in the strawberry fields. Y/N was busy rambling about something unimportant, but Thalia listened intently anyway as she watched how the other girl intricately weaved the flowers together.
“And then Rachel broke up with Ross because he said that they were on a break, and she was like ‘well that doesn’t mean-’” she looked up, “Thalia?”
“Sorry,” Thalia laughed, “but, how do you do that? With the flowers?”
“Here,” y/n beamed, “I’ll show you.”
Thalia grabbed what looked to be the freshest flower. She examined the flowers that twirled around. She sighed and began making her way back to the cabins.
She finally was at the doorstep of y/n’s cabin. She took a deep breath as she knocked on the wood.
The door opened with one of y/n’s siblings standing there, “Thalia? Oh my gods, I-”
“Is y/n here?”
They shook their head, “no, she just left. She’s be acting off today, she didn’t even say anything about where she was going.”
She huffed, “okay, thanks anyway.” She rushed off and stood in the middle of the cabins. She thought about all the places where y/n could’ve been, and then it hit her.
She ran off to the strawberry fields, where to no surprise, y/n sat, weaving a crown.
“Y/N?”
The girl turned around, “gods.”
Thalia sat beside her, “I was looking for you.”
She looked down at the flowers, “I’m sorry, I was- uhm- here.”
Thalia smiled, “I got that.”
Y/N nodded, “sorry yeah.”
“Are you okay?”
She stayed silent.
“Y/N?”
“I’ve been scared of seeing you.”
“What?”
She finally looked back up, “I’ve missed you for years, and you’re back and I don’t really know what to do with myself. I mean, I don’t know how to talk to you. Well, I know how to, but not how to.”
“Like this.”
She giggled, “what?”
“You just talk and make your flower crowns, and I’ll just try to make out whatever words you're saying.”
Y/N bit her lip, “this is for you.” She placed the blue flowers on top of Thalia's head, her finger twirled a strand of the girl’s hair as she pulled her hand away.
Thalia laughed, “thanks.”
“I’ve been wanting to do that for the past six years.”
