you wake up - luffy's foot is in your mouth, but also at the same time, his other foot is wrapped around your legs??? he stretched in his sleep and has trapped you in some very odd body trap...it takes you yelling at him to even wake him up.

sanji is the first to wake up, usually, and when you get to the kitchen the breakfast is waiting for you. now you have to sleepily fight for your share of the food because luffy is hangry (his default mood when he wakes up is hangry because he hasn't eaten yet...since he just woke up...) and then also there are 9 other hands that are fiending for all the dishes on the table.

after surviving a war in the dining room, you hope to take some time to relax. but that doesn't exist on the thousand sunny since chopper and usopp are quick to get into their shenanigans. they call you over, wanting to show you a creation that the sniper made, only for you to get a pie of whip cream to the face. they called you over so that they could prank you and now were rolling on the deck laughing about it.

instead of skewering them alive, you decide to take the peaceful route in going to the bathroom to wash your face off. oh, but franky is already in the bathroom taking his morning shower.

you get a face full of cyborg and a very girlish scream escapes his mouth when he realizes that you are standing at the entrance, watching him sing into the shower bottles - naked and all. he then screams out for how he can get no privacy, but you're just too determined to clean your face of the whip cream that you don't really pay him any mind.

when you get out of the bathroom, now having peace in mind, there is a rabid sanji and zoro fighting each other. they're at each other's throats for whatver reason and when they catch you walking down the hallway, they involve you in their fight...for whatever reason.

they're asking you to take a side, who was right in their idiotic fight, but they're both shouting so loud and at the same time you can't even process what either of them are saying. you can only blanky stare back at them as their huffing and puffying to regain their breaths from their nonstop yelling.

and then their expressions go back to being angry, but not at each other - at you, for seemingly being too neutral and not staking a claim to one of their sides. it's all just their adrenaline ramped up to a thousand (even though it's barely been an hour since they've woken up) and now they're trying to make your reaction the same.

you can only sigh, shoving your palms into their faces, and making them clear a path for you to leave the hallway. this makes their bickering turn back to each other instead, their shouts echoing all over the thousand sunny.

just when you finally think, maybe robin or jinbe could offer you comfort in peace, no! brook and nami are actually fighting about something on deck. as you listen in you hear about how brook is the one stealing their undergarments at night - that's enough for you to step in and deal with the perverted skeleton. a punch to his skull is enough to knock some sense into him (nami laid out a couple of her own on his head before you arrived)

nami thanks you in a sigh of exasperation. she offers you a slice of the tnagerine she had peeled, which she gingerly feeds you when you accept. and her face mimics that of an angel, eyes closed as she smiles kindly at you...before she barks at brook to make up for his odd, perverted actions by playing her her favorite song.

and even though you do enjoy brook's violin playing, that is just not your definition of peace right now. maybe any other day, but just not right now.

so you go below deck and finally find your favorite people: robin and jinbe. you practically collapse on jinbe, murmuring about how tired you were despite the day just starting, and robin laughs at your fatigue. she begins to read aloud for the three of you whilst jinbe's hand comfortingly goes up and down your back. she looks at your figure, observing your peaceful expression, before fluidly going back to reading aloud the history book she picked up.

jinbe is laid out against the cushioned seats so really, he's acting as a big bed for you and you definitely do not pass up the chance to catch a quick cat nap. and hopefully this time when you wake up, your captain's foot won't be in your mouth <3

A little summary of what you’re getting into, at least with season 1 winky face (this is the summary i wrote for when i eventually post this on ao3 or smth): After an accident that leaves Danny with ghostly abilities (because no, there’s no way he’s dead), said creatures seem to be coming out of the woodwork, sometimes quite literally. The 15 year old High School Freshman takes it upon himself to keep the town safe since his accident is the reason they’re getting through. Oh, and he keeps breaking the lights. That’s probably not important.

OR; A rewrite of Danny Phantom as a fruity No One Knows AU and I’m changing his powers to electricity based. Homie was electrocuted it makes more sense imo

Basic info you might want: 

The AU itself: This is a no one knows au!!!! Sam and Tucker do not know. While they heard about the accident, in classic nok aus fashion, Danny is refusing to give them details and is pushing them away. In a classic Finch fashion, I made the death of a ghost correspond to their abilities. As such, Danny has electricity-based powers. 

Genre: Superhero, obv, thats what DP is, a little comedy, but mostly HORROR ELEMENTS!!! I love horror. Psychological? Probably. Body? Definitely.

The ghosts: While some ghosts will not make an appearance (most likely at least. Look man i'm still working on it), your favs are going to be completely revamped! Every ghost that will show up I hope to flesh out well :) except maybe one-time villains/cameos. I have created a whole system of ghost typing ranging from Will-o-the-wisps and Shades to Liminals (who are often called, ahem, Gravewalkers) and Lords/Ancients. Each ghost typing has their own abilities and whatnot (think like the ghosts in Phasmophobia). And since some of my typings would BUTCHER a few characters including Danny, ghost types can overlap :D For example, in this au Danny is a liminal banshee, and by the end of the series he’ll be a liminal banshee and [REDACTED]! This mostly applies to higher level ghosts since those are more titular than anything, but it will also apply to a few of the main cast of full ghosts.

The characters: The characters you know and love are back, but a few with a bit more substance. Team Phantom is overall pretty similar, just adjusted to fit headcanons I’ve inserted into the au. Vlad is not an incel anymore and now is taking Daddy Issues to the extreme! This definitely won’t have any negative consequences for Phantom. Oh, hes also like, 5x more manipulative. Danielle is back and BETTER. While I quite liked her in canon, now she makes more sense. Instead of going by “Dani,” she decided to be less confusing and pick a cooler name (her words) and goes by “Elle!” Pronounced like the letter L shes built different (its not because I keep reading “Ellie” wrong or anything). She is also physically the same age as Danny. She also has a dual ghost type, but you can wait for that I’ll do like a proper character intro or smth.

Season 1 (the only season i’m giving you a peak of rn): Season 1 is mostly a learning period for Danny. Unlike canon where the origin story is left to the intro until a retcon in season 2, the Accident is told through flashbacks, Daredevil style. Overall, this season will be the slowest, as it’s more for building the world, establishing characters and motives, and other stuff to make the next seasons flow as well as possible. Think like the Owl House where season 1 has more filler that progressively gets fewer and further between as it continues. This season ends with what very well might be a rewrite of one of everyone’s favourite episodes from canon. You can speculate what one that is.

So basically, A TikToker was doing an angel tree gift kid and ordered online and I was, in a nicer way, like thank fuck someone used the internet to get all the kid wanted instead of just going 'I couldn't find it so they don't get that item that they specifically needed like a coat' and she replied with basically 'Oh at least they tried, we should just be encouraging ppl to care, its the thought that counts blah blah' NOT ITS NOT, Its fucking not! and I can tell you cos I know! I hated pink as a kid but because I was a girl, I always got the girls stockings when I needed them (I'm from the UK/we never got enough help to get onto custom lists like that) and it was all pink glittery shit and skin care stuff. The year I got a box from my school, ppl that knew me? Still pink girly shit and products I can't use, It ruined my Christmas each fucking year because I hated all that shit and thought about the other girls who didn't get one but would have loved it! Making me more sad and I'd just have to donate almost all my stocking fillers to a different place. We eventually stopped using services like that because we decided it wasn't working at all for us so just went to the food places when we needed help. I just wanted the cheap plastic cars and maybe some glue sticks and my teachers and classmates knew that, even a pink car would have been nice! My favourite child toys were a purple Barbie car and a pink thunderbirds car, you can combo girly with my interests as a kid but no one ever did, I was more excited about having the canned foods and trying new brands I'd never seen before. Also I never got a jumper in a single one? All these American kids getting coats, It was only last year that i had a stocking with a hat and gloves like damm. Anyway-

It's like when ppl said we as a society need to stop getting art kids the cheap shitty art sets that will dry out and snap in a week, that's not a thought that counts, they're gonna have ONE good day then have a break down over how they think they did something wrong to the kit when actually it was just a shitty gift. Like yes, if this is a 4 year old maybe get them that horrible thing to test the waters so you can find out what they like but art kids still get them into their 20s! If your kid is older than 4, they will have a preference in art medium. Get the kid that paints some nice paints, better if you know what type they like but even paint they don't like is still better than that shit. Get the drawing kid, wait for it, pencils! Whoa! So new! Care about your fucking kid. They can always tell.

Edit: Actually, I'm not done. Angel trees this year have been pissing me off because, okay so this one TikToker picked a little boy asked for Bluey stuff and she got him really cool bluey stuff because it was very clear that he'd like that because the note said that. Her girl? They girl card she picked up? Just said anime. Just fuckin anime! No show, no genre, no manga NOTHING! Just anime! Imagine if Bluey boy just said Dogs or cartoons. Someone could get a fuckin Monster high doll for him, that's what it'd be like for these anime kids! This girl liked unicorns and make up so I'd assume maybe she's into magical girls but i understand why the TikToker chose this nice BNHA book because BNHA is popular and, ngl it was probably the only thing available in store but again thats why online is a thing. No shade to this lady tho, she didn't a good job. But another person got another girl who just said anime and FNAF. So y'all can write FNAF, but not a single anime name? Because she had FNAF, they got her a demon slayer color book, they did check the pages for age appropriate stuff before tho. But like we are just assuming these kids are into the popular, boy fighting stuff when they might not be and it sucks cos imagine getting a gift of an anime you actually hate, like I hate Demon slayer but love FNAF, it is a safe choice and a good one like sge replied to be about and i was like 100% the best guess... But why are we having to guess on these personalized fuckin hand made lists! Bluey kid didn't have that! This is probs my 4th try at end speculation and I'm mostly putting it here for myself, because it will be fun to compare next week:

*Loki will indeed take over the tva, but not exactly stay there. He will most likely be at the citadel. He'll either become a 'god of stories' type where he scans for threats and has them eliminated and slightly manipulates lines

or

they'll go with the 'avenger prime' approach where he is involved in activly recruting heroes from different time lines to fight Kang.

*Sylvie's powers will have to be of use or it would be a waste. I don't see her making a full turn in two eps, so ruling with Loki is unlikely.

Which means huge sacrifice (sucky option) or her own mission (less sucky option).

I don't think she'll be able to just settle down anymore.

(There is the idea of both Lokis merging, but thats to whack for the mcu sadly).

*Mobius will work at the tva, possibly co-run with B15.

I said it before, Mobius is the tva, basically, and it looks like marvel will establish it as an institution (so much detail, built up and merch went into it, plus 2 shows, the tva will stay)

*B15 has already shown leadership qualities, she'll stay and use them.

*same with OB and Casey, they're needed for the tech part.

OB's a bit of a wild card tho, there's a reason his time line wasn't shown in the trailer.

The timelines we'll see in 2x5 will be for background story and character development, but not 'real' and nobody will stay there/get back there.

*Ravonna idk. She doesn't make much sense as a villain, with Kang still in the background.

She does pretend to be Kang in the comics, and since she's already in the void, Loki could use her as a stand in so he can stay in the background. But it seems unlikely. Especially after what she did to Dox and the minute men.

Maybe she'll get eaten.

*Brad no clue. Could get brainwashed and deposited somewhere. If they wanted to kill him, they could have already. He might also become vital to the plot, he seems to have a lot of background info.

So, the 2 peoole who have claimed to have seen 2x5 called it 'hectic' and 'a filler'. Which boils down to Loki trying different ways to get the crew back, which will all fail, so he'll have to try a different approach. The tries will be hectic, and the time lines stuff will not affect the plot or move it foreward. It will just be fun and emotional ad the actual solution will be in 2x6.

There has been a development in his opinions about the Pink Posse storyline.

He walked into the living room and went ‘i was up all night thinking about the Pink Pus-Posse thing. And i have several thoughts and even more disappointments…..so far but that’s to be shared when i see how bad it goes…i have zero faith’ he thought it out and came up with two different versions of his own opinion because and i quote ‘one is for serious and one is for shits and giggles because how can i take them seriously?‘ and in order to explain it to me he DREW STICK FIGURES. So please bare with me while i try to explain this shit. The “serious” opinion drawing is two stick figures representing britin and theyre standing close together with a heart above their heads. And then the Justin stick figure has two thinking bubbles, one is britin kissing and the other one is a stick figure Justin and a baseball bat. And Brians stick figure only has 1 bubble that’s like split in middle and it’s Justin and a baseball bat(Basically same as Justins) and Cody and Justin. And then on a bit further from them is another stick figure thats cody and his thinking bubble is bunch of stick figures with Xs as their eyes. Clearly I am related to picasso. And basically his opinion is that Justin is split between being free and happy and gay and between anger and revenge. And he has to decide between cody and brian(except he thinks it could be another ethan type plot). Meanwhile Brian only thinks this will lead to the prom scene again. And in fact he thinks thats what they might do in the season: hurt justin on a patrol and Brian freaks and then gives him an ultimatum for the first time and that leads to the i love you (you gotta give it to him, he’s persistent with the i love you), he also fully thinks Brian and Cody will meet and have a confrontation (which ngl now i am suddenly wishing we had that bc his reenactment of what he thinks will happen was entertaining). i was actually impressed by this bc so far he has taken the posse plot only half serious which i get. Even tho i was confused about the drawing but he said that at 3 am this is the only way he could make sense. Now the unserious version is a drawing that is basically a reenactment of Drag Race. Brian is in the middle instead of Ru and he has Daphne and Jen on each side and they are making fun of a stick figure Cody. Jokes about the buzzcuts and the pink shirts are written in little speech bubbles.

I now really wish the unserious opinion/drawing came to life because it would be a dream. Daphne, Jen and Brian just roasting anybody would be funny as fuck. Even if it’d be Justin

WOW! Your Brother is basically writing fanfiction (gap filler, Pink Posse arc) right now. I think the serious version could be an amazing fic - Brian confront Cody during the arc.

Also, I am DYING LAUGHING because if Brian is Ru and Daphne and Jen are on either side, that means one of them is Michelle Visage and the other is the-hilarious-Ross-Matthews or style-super-star-Carson Kressley. And I am living for this. And it makes me want to abandon middle-aged exes-to-lovers and write my RPDR/QAF crossover fic.

Bad Cop is probably not the one to openly say "I love you" even further down the road, at least not as easily as Wilson would do it. There's so much delicious contrast between him and Wilson when it comes to this, you can see why this ship is *chef's kiss*. Another thing that could happen between them is Bad Cop being overprotective of Wilson, cause I can imagine how much he would internally fear losing someone he loves yet again. There probably could be an incident where Wilson would have to calm him down from it (for example, Bad Cop going near apeshit on a perceived threat to Wilson)

but i agree, i think post good ending would be where they would both kind of realize their feelings for each other. Badcop would probably realize it but try to ignore it and push his feelings away because he's afraid of losing someone close again. Their confession would be super awkward but i think thats like. the best part. the comedy from that as well as the romance lolol.

maybe something more heartfelt and cute would happen but i think this is funny.

they would kind of both protect each other, later on badcop more than wilson. badcop would probably be more aware of things he feels threatens either wilson or the both of them, and wilson is more concerned about like. bodily harm. its sososos great

ouuyghhhhhhhhhh I love doing world building stuff so much, I have this huge world ive been homebrewing to hopefully eventually run a campaign in and I just have so many characters and locations ive made for it and I like them so much Inchunder- one of the locations is called inchunder, its a town and its called that bc the sidewalks are always an inch underwater because its always raining in the town, its a haven of sorts for those that like the rain or the cold or the dark, and was magically made to rain by a wizard or something a long time ago, its a chilly place, people usually wear cloaks and you can see your breath when you walk around, people who make cloaks and cobblers are some of the main professions in the town, well-renowned for their waterproof shoes and clothing. Some other important jobs in the city are lantern-lighters, metalworkers, and glassblowers. Watch out for potholes, because there is a very rare chance if you step into one deep enough you wont come out, and will get transported somewhere else. Fireplaces are a staple in the city for heating. Tidal Town (filler name)- for lack of better name atm ive been calling this place tidal town, its a coastal town mostly made of white stone and copper, most of the structures are made of pillars with domed oxidized copper roofs with spires or statues on top, the architecture is intricate and well-maintained, very ornamental, the town is very isolated and a sort of retirement place, most of the people there are older people who dont want to be disturbed. Most houses are single story, with only 1-2 people. in the center of the town is a sundial that tells the time, and allows people to know when the tide is coming in or out, because this town floods and un-floods with the tides. there are also kelp and seaweed gardens scattered about in box gardens. Most of the people who live in the town are tritons, water genasi, or other amphibious/water breathing creatures. There is a section of the town that remains entirely underwater, but thats deeper and not accessible to creatures who dont breathe water. The town's main exports are jewelry and embroidered clothing, as well as other methods of ornamentation. Hybrid City (again filler name)- The hybrid city is exactly what it sounds like, its a city for people without anywhere else to go. It's a haven for creatures who dont fit in anywhere else, and has different districts for different species, who all have their own developed cultures. Genasi hybrids and half elves are especially common here. There is a lot of variation in clothing styles here, but almost all of it is colorful and considered to be fashionable. There is also a lot of variety to fit the specific needs of various species, and tailors are a common profession here that can be paid very well, as are textile and fiber artists. For example, a fire genasi might need cooler clothes, like sleeveless shirts and pants that can be hemmed, whereas a water genasi might need warmer clothes. The variation in body types also contributes to this, as tabaxis will have different needs than centaurs for example. This city is quite literally in the clouds, and was established and is maintained by air genasi. Insect/music Dungeon- I'm not sure exactly if this'll be a oneshot or if its part of the world but im putting it here anyway because its cool, the insect dungeon is what it sounds like, an insect themed dungeon. The entrance is above ground, guarded by an older man who is an anthro giant African snail, and a younger man who is a weevil knight. Inside, there are a collection of insect themed puzzles, for example one themed around cicada years, and the floors go down and down deeper into the earth, structured like an insect nest. The final boss fight is probably an egg sac of sorts. The dungeon also has a music theme, with things like cricket songs being a theme, and one of the items you can get being a magic lute painted like a pair of insect wings.

So right now my friend @royalxsapphire and I were texting about the less than intresting turn in the story of obey me and during our disscussion we talked about things we would of changed from season 1 to now and adding in our own plot for fun, These are just our thought feel free to tag us both and add or talk about what you would add in. This is just how I would like the story to go if it were up to me you can also reblog with how you would of changed the plot and added in more charcater development.

Season 1

Changes:

If I had to rewrite it I would give mc and belphegor more screen time to flush out how mc deals with their murder

like mc would get possed with rage and then the brothers would have to find a way to bring them back from theirrage since they are causing trouble in devildom.

Season 2

Changes:

As for season 2 hmmmmm I would give the death demon more power like maybe blow out beels candle and then send him into purgatory and from there have mc travel into purgatory which is filled with actual fragments of beels mind

kinda like the last dimension in doctor strange type vibes and then from Mc will have to there collect theshards and piece them back together so beel and mc could make it out of purgatory, but not without suffering some of beels sinwith Mc being literally tempted to eat the fragements

(i would like solomon to randomly have a crucifix and yeet it at the death god killing him)

(Not really adding the amesia part with lucifer cause it was the start of just filler lessons)

Season 3

Changes:

I  personally would like them to scrap out the mansion( we already have house of lamentation) show them wheremc might live(give the player an option of how mc lives) and just let the broslegit show up there and be like "Sup we are your new roomates" kinda a ms kobahyshi dragon maid type thing

 except the bros have to really adapt to human life and all dealing with religion racism just finding out that mcs world is a shitty place

kinda humbling them a bit as well,since they kinda are diavolos sugar babies in a sense,

as for who to focus on in season 3 hmmm, maybe it could be Lucifer but really focus on the angst and history of christians and the Vatican in the crusading days really make him conflicted with his motives like mentally shake him up questioning if the war was worth the pain and suffering humans delt with during the time Chrisianity had a bad name.

I also think it would be cool for the other brothers to meet different humans and learn their stories of how the specicfic brothers' respective sin destroyed their life, making the demon brothers think a bit more about how humans too have it bad.

Season 4

I dont know about season 4 tho what its about but if I had to fill in the blanks I would revive diavolos father and from there thats where shit hits the fan the demon king is repulsed by the demon bros and then from there he seperates lucifer and diavolo so because some demons like diavolos rules on how he governs they take lucifers side and diavolo is on the side of his dad for reasons being hes family and he doesnt want to go against his dad and devildom now goes into war with Lucifer representing democrasy and the Demon king dictatorship.

I would like to focus on belphie for that season too so he could at the end make amends with diavolo. 

But as for mc i want Mc to leave the realms and try to adapt to their human life as much as possible(of course making lots of time go by like say 20 years) and then they decide to go back to devildom and negociate lucifer and diavolo to forming an alliance  and then put an end to the demon king via assination.

and from there devildom becomes a democracy.

Season 5

If we wanted to add one more season, Lucifer would be going up against simeon for prime minister since simeon helped in the war,

Mammon would be a CEO of a non profit organization that is raising awareness on the addiction of gambling,

Levi would be a swim coach for the devildom military,

Satan might be a librian keeping the offical history documents of devildom together,

Asmo would be an influencer that spreads awareness of rape victims,

Beelzebub would  be a gym owner with his own wrestling team (which also recruits future military soldiers)

And Luke would of acended to the hisghest rank lucifer was at when he was an angel, making meeting with both realms less stressfull and awkard.

I think season 5 could be where all the choices you make in the game thus far determines who you end up with. Kinda like in mystic messenger and then the rest of season 5 is you building your relationship with whichever demon or "undatable" you end up with.

I would want to squeeze in some slight angst with mc dying (cause the years afterwards took devildom a LONG time to recover)

and from there whatever demons or undatetable they were closest to wouldcome in and revive mc but Mc would then be an angel in the celesitial realm with lillith.

Eventually gaining the freedom to go back to the devildom.

But these are just our thoughts which i edited a bit what do you think?

I have to say I knew that at one point renji, ikkaku, yumichika and iba were in the same squad with kenpachi but good god you managed to paint a beautiful picture for me. I simply assumed that for them it was simply party time all the time along with a few bald jokes but this is much better. Emotionally healthy squad 11 which still love fighting more than anything. I always cringed when someone would just describe them as hooligans that do nothing but fighting. I mean they do that too but I love the idea that they are all emotionally healthy and mature, a loving and supportive family to their own - in their own wakka doodoo kind of way thats endearing - and of course they are in my opinion they single capable force against sexisim. Because they don't care about anything else - gendere, sexuality, gender performances, race, mentality or anything - other than if you fight good you respectable and if you fight good in squad 11 you family. ( like when kenpachi just became captain he made yachiru his lieutenant and no one was against it no one thought it was beneath them, sure thru nag at her sometimes but that's mostly in a banter like way because she call them stupid nicknames but no one hates her for being unrightfully their superior. One day they got a new captain and a new lieutenant that's a child and they just went with it.) I admit their disdain and disrespect to squad 4 is still frowned upon but I do believe some squad 4s can handle their own, it's just that we saw the really peaceful ones. Anyways sorry for ranting. Just wanted to say that yeah, I really like how the past squad 11 with iba and renji in it was a great place in general. I think if they found out some one was being sexist - for whatever reason - they would be there right next to nanao - or iba's mom protesting. Kenpachi and yachiru as well. And that makes me want to be squad 11 ,despite not being much for fighting, so bad.

So, for starters, thanks! I try to have fun whenever I write Squad 11, and I’m glad you enjoy my take on them.

My Squad 11 is just... really not very canon, though. Canon Squad 11 is actually pretty gross and sexist. Yumichika is transphobic, Kenpachi makes homophobic remarks about Yumichika, they bully Squad 4, there’s a filler episode devoted to a guy that Ikkaku bullied for, like 100 years because the guy lost his reiatsu saving Ikkaku’s dumb ass.

When you write fanfic, you occasionally run into these more problematic aspects of the source media, and you can choose to dig in and analyze them, or just... remake them in your own way. Take for example, Gin. If you read fanfic about Gin, there are some people who will peel away the layers of him and his fears and insecurities and still make him be a horrible gremlin, and it’s really stellar writing. Other people prefer to write him in an AU where maybe less bad stuff happened to him, and he’s more mischievous than sociopathic, and this is a less meaty interpretation, but it’s also more fun. Sometimes fanfic is a meal and sometimes it’s candy. It fulfills different needs and different fantasies and all of it is welcome.

Yumichika, who for me is the fulcrum of Squad 11, presents this problem. I really don’t like the way his “appreciation for beauty” plays out in canon. He doesn’t actually appreciate beauty, he just likes telling other people they’re ugly. I don’t think he’s ever pointed out beauty in anyone else aside from himself or his zanpakutou. I remember the first time I watched his fight with Charlotte and it struck me as so off -- why wouldn’t he find her beautiful? I mean, I know it’s a transmysogynistic joke, that’s why, men dressed as women is funny, hurr hurr, but Yumichika is gender nonconforming himself. This was an opportunity to make a cool character point, and Kubo took the cheap laughs road instead. Going back to what I said last paragraph, a skilled writer could, in theory, write about his insecurities and his brittleness and meanness and write a pretty compelling story, but a) Kubo certainly doesn’t, and I have never actually found a Yumichika-centric fanfic of this nature, and b) this doesn’t fit the role I need him to play in my stories. I am rarely really interested in writing about Squad 11 for its own sake. I like to write them as a backdrop for the period of Renji’s afterlife where he hit absolute rock bottom and bounced back up again. We already know the role Ikkaku played in this, except that Ikkaku is a complete moron in terms of mental health, and I really, really felt like this is where Yumichika needed to come in.

I like to massage Yumichika’s character a bit, but I do want to keep the flavor of some of his character flaws-- he’s still shallow and mean and judgy, and I love that for him, but I like to add in a positive side to his appreciation for beauty. Having Yumichika make fun of Izuru’s pores is funny but it’s even funnier if he’s just given Renji a compliment on his hair first. The idea that a Yumichika compliment is attainable makes all his drags the more vicious. Yumichika also judged people by their beauty instead of their moral character, which is humorous to me. He dislikes Byakuya as a person, but is obsessed with his haircare regime. I like to have him treat Rangiku as an equal, beauty-wise, and a person whose opinion he respects based on her aesthetic. Rangiku is actually a pretty savvy and very emotionally intelligent person whom many people write off because she likes to present herself as a lazy airhead, so in an extremely convoluted way, this all works out. I like to think that Yumichika’s ideas of beauty are also caught up in boldness and risk-taking and having one’s outward presentation ring true to their inner self. To me, this is the core of why he loves Ikkaku. To him, Ikkaku’s devotion to doing the most Ikkaku thing at all times, no matter how stupid, is irresistibly sexy. 

Aside: At some point, I decided that the fact that a lot of people in Bleach have colorful marks on their faces and elaborate hairstyle and accessory games implied that make-up in Soul Society is gender neutral. I like to think there is actually more of a divide between the nobility, who like their make-up to follow rules and be classy, and, well, Squad 11, who like to get make-up ideas from Jem and the Holograms. I don’t even wear makeup (I don’t know how and it’s expensive and I am ashamed of myself, we can talk about my own gender presentation later) but I like to write about both my male and female characters wearing make-up. I don’t actually know how my readers feel about it, but it just falls under the “Is that what people want?”/“It’s what we do” philosophy of all my writing.

I think one of the theses of my writing is that middle management is more important to the character of a squad than the person at the top. Captains sort of act as ideals to strive for, but they are generally unapproachable for one reason or another. Yachiru is more like her captain in this respect (which makes sense, since she is, in fact part of her captain). Ikkaku and Yumichika present this dual idea that 1) strength is awesome, fighting and being the best is awesome, and 2) part of strength is presenting yourself to the world in a bold and confrontational way. (The fact that both of them are hiding huge parts of themselves is laughably ironic). Kenpachi and Yachiru are shining examples of Do Whatever You Want and Be So Strong That No One Can Stop You. 

What really makes this work is that you need someone one layer down-- does anyone actually subscribe to this nonsense, and that’s why Iba - Abarai Squad 11 is Best Squad 11. I really, really enjoy the genre of Reddit posts where a total bro will find out that his girlfriend is trans and react by becoming a vehement advocate for trans rights. I love the bodybuilders typing encouragement to each other meme. Our world is flooded with disingenuous messages from concern trolls trying to tell us why being kind and inclusive to one another is bad or that you should reject help because struggle makes you stronger and the idea of a Himbo looking at something like that and saying “that seems dumb" is delightful to me.

I actually feel like there are a lot of awful people with bad ideas in Squad 11, it’s just that Renji and Iba don’t put up with their shit, and over time, that becomes the culture of Squad 11. I think that Squad 11 has incredibly turnover, but the ones who stay are the ones who subscribe to the ideas you mentioned-- fighting is what matters, if you wanna go argue about shit, go join Squad 5. In the IkkaYumi story I wrote, which happens shortly after Zaraki takes over, a ton of people leave. The Bount Arc (which I know a lot of people skipped) features a dude who was extremely pissed off because he had liked the old Kenpachi and thought Zaraki sucked and was so mad about it that he betrayed Soul Society. You might think that this arc would feature Zaraki caring about this in some way shape or form, but he really didn’t. So, I think there are a lot of Soul Reapers that took issue with serving under a little girl as a vice captain, they just aren’t in Squad 11 anymore.

Oh, one last note on Iba’s mom. I am of an age where a number of my friends have mothers who were Second Wave Feminists. The moms in question are a real mixed bag, because they Came From a Different Time, and on one hand, you have to respect what they went through, and on the other hand, they are very difficult to get along with. I liked the idea that Iba has always chafed against his mom and her big personality, and then Renji comes in, and is like, “hey, your mom is strong as hell and she has a lot of ideas that I never thought of but they make sense” and Iba realizes that, even though she’s still a huge pain in his ass, his mom is the person who made him who he is. Moms are complex.

Uhhhh, I have definitely lost the thread of wherever I was going with this post. Thank you for enjoying my Squad 11, which is nothing like canon Squad 11. Hopefully maybe this year, I will actually finish my Squad 11 Self Care story, where Renji stops being a drunk disaster person after Yumichika teaches him how to fill his brows; I got stuck on a part where Rangiku gives Renji a talk on ethical sluttery.

Oki so my writing question is: How do you write a clear 'voice' for your characters?

Like people always say, especially with dialog, to make sure every character 'sounds' different. And I try to like make difference between how complicated the words they use are, do they use slang, are they descriptive or to the point etc to try n paint like a different picture but then there are characters who are similar on things like these and also pov which always just reads to me as something id write n not necesseraly the character themselves, even if i do have a clear picture of the character n their personality.

I hope thats not too vague i just started wondering afrer reading the latest :X chapter, it was amazing to me just how much you could tell about Shinsou simply from words he used to describe a sittuation n i wanna learn how to do dat too

Something that influences my writing a lot in this respect is that I developed my writing the most while roleplaying! It used to be really hard for me to imagine writing more than one character in a scene myself, because my writing method when roleplaying is pretty much ‘get into the character’s head and have at it,’ and writing more than one character seemed like it required some kind of manic rapid back-and-forth switching (which eventually turned out to be just... easier than I expected!) As a result... this isn’t actually something I’ve explicitly thought about very much! So thanks for the ask, because it made me reflect on what actually goes into my writing.

The first thing I want to say is: You’re really on point with what you’ve explained so far! It’s a fantastic start! The way I frame it in my mind when I think about it is that I’m trying to focus on what characterizes whoever I’m writing. What makes them stand out and seem special? It doesn’t have to be part of their voice - it’s just, like, what aspects of them are most recognizable? Take those things and make sure that they show up when you’re writing that character. Here’s a few aspects to consider:

More obvious aspects of speech patterns, like you mentioned. For example, I have Present Mic cut off his ‘g’s a lot and use more infomal language (so “What are you thinking?” turns into “Whatcha thinkin’?”) because he’s a peppy, flamboyant, informal type of person.

What a character is feeling. A lot can be communicated about an emotional state using filler words and sounds, someone’s body language, the contrast between their internal narration and their words, and non-vocabulary aspects of their speech like whether they get to the point or if they’re hesitant to say it outright. ‘Show, don’t tell’ isn’t a hard rule but it comes into play a lot for this one.

The iconic aspects of someone’s character and how that influences how they would see and speak about a certain topic. Aizawa is a very to-the-point person that is aware of the necessity of emotional needs but not supremely adept at managing them, so he’s a lot more likely to be blunt as default. Hawks lives by lying through his teeth and managing every situation he’s in, so while he can be blunt, he’s usually going to do it with the goal of getting a specific reaction. That changes how and when they are blunt.

A character’s relationship to another person or the situation they’re in. Shinsou in :X, for example, has an internal narrative that is pretty self-flagellating, tends towards some amount of snark, and includes the occasional swear word. But... he also holds an immense amount of respect for his teachers and he’s nervous talking to people, so when he speaks to Aizawa and Present Mic, he code-switches to something more formal and withdrawn, and gets stressy about it if he slips up. I don’t have to outright explain those things about his personality and view of Aizawa and Mic for that information to be communicated by his code-switching.

Sometimes you run into two characters that have somewhat similar ‘obvious aspects of speech pattern,’ like Present Mic and Hawks, for example. In that situation, focus on the other points! Sure, I write Mic and Hawks as both calling people ‘man’ and acting physically expressive and upbeat while being emotionally canny individuals, but Mic is more genuinely emotional (and thus more likely to show other emotions than pep) while Hawks wears his lightheartedness as a mask and can get stuck in it when a more somber face might be more natural. He’s also less genuine and more likely to be dismissive. So when I’m writing them, for Mic I think ‘what would I say if I was trying to say it from my heart?’ and for Hawks I think ‘what would I say if I was trying to find the right words to resolve the situation quickly?’

These differences in approach affect how a character’s voice manifests! I think a lot of it really boils down to improving your fundamental understanding of a character and their current state and letting that flow into how they think and talk. You can think about all of these things individually, but if it seems like a lot - well, it is! I’ll think about individual aspectst of the above when editing, but when I’m writing my first draft, I tend to just build a picture of a character in my head and jump right in to writing while trying to let myself feel and think what the character does. Active daydreaming about fic a lot helps with that, haha.

I hope this helps and isn’t just a repeat of stuff you’ve already read! Practice really does make perfect with stuff like this - understanding and balancing everything gets way easier the more you do it. Lastly:  ❤! :D

What worked and what didn’t:

I think the overall structure worked pretty well. The most difficult part was, with the plot and subplot already created, scattering all those ideas throughout the text in such a way that at least made some sense. I regret not writing more about Mer Yankelevich, I feel like the crumbs I left on the way were not enough; in my attempt to make it subtle it lacked information about her. The key piece was of course her sister, and I should have introduced her sooner.

MC’s evolution. I feel like Kate’s learnt a lot with this experience (I’m not only referring to the Deathly Hallows or Grindelwald) When it started, she was very discreet and kept a low profile, not knowing what to do really, not taking more risks than necessary. And then she ended poisoned and splinching just to protect a document she thought was important. I hope her evolution is noticeable for the reader.

Worldbuilding. Grabbing HP concepts that were forgotten and full of potential, plus a dash of original ideas from me and blending them with muggle features was my absolute favourite part of the process.

On that note, I dont own these concepts: Durmstrang, Igor Karkarov, Nerida Vulchanova, umbrella flowers, fanged geraniums, billywigs, Appare Vestigium, glow-worms, trick wand, chamaleon ghouls, 

If you’ve read the fic and thought: “everything happened so fast” or got a general odd feeling about the timeline it's because I made a series of  monumental mistakes: setting a chapter limit, telling you about it and then tried to stick to it.  At first the idea sounded nice: this is my first “big” story  with complicated components. I should (and I did) do an outline of what I want to happen in each chapter and stick to it methodically so I don't forget what's happening or lose track of the plot. Well...it kind of backfired. So I wrote the first 3 chapters and at that point I thought “okay everything is going as planned, I’m going to put it out there”, bam, instantly cursed. After that it got ridiculously difficult to make the story that I wanted. Why? I needed chapter space that I convinced myself I couldn’t add. Dumb.

The major consequence of this was the lack of character backgrounds. It started out good, but as I kept writing and publishing I realised that I missed some great opportunities to make amazing ocs. That’s Corentin’s fault in a way: he wasn't going to be a major character, really, just a piece to help Kate a bit. But we all fell in love with him so what was I supposed to do? Also, Sheyi Mawut owns my heart and he got just a bit of spotlight. A shame.

I wish I had written more about them, but I think I wasn’t ready just yet to make it even more complicated.I just wanted to prove I could concoct a mystery plot and now that I know I can manage a fair amount of information I think I can take it a step further and deepen new ocs a little bit more.

I’m thinking about the datura series and I know why I got blocked and tired of writing it; it wasnt going anywhere because I wasnt prepared, and I didn’t do the months of outlines and planning that I did with this one. I’ll come back to the datura story one day, subjecting it to a sever rewrite. The ideas are there, I just need to be organised.

Although the chapter limit was problematic it was also a good exercise of managing space and deciding which things were unnecessary for the story. I dont think there’s any filler chapters, perhaps the last ones, but there is important information there too so... However this sentence  from the blog  wordsandstuff reassured me (and I think I did a good job at that?)

If you set out to write 10 parts and you write a fantastic story in 8, you haven’t failed and it’s not too rushed. Concise writing is an underrated talent. Focus on how effectively you engage the reader, not for how long.

I spent more than year writing this! When I started, I had a lot of ideas, I wrote the last two chapters then the first 3 and I really thought it was going to be that way with the rest of the story... okay... lesson learnt. #humbled

Other thoughts:

I received a couple of comments on ao3 that said that they were pleasantly surprised. Maybe I should change the tags because they are misleading? Clearly this wasnt what people were looking for lol.

One particular comment stood out to me and quoting it said:  “You did not choose the easy way with a fiction with so few characters from the fandom.”  And I’ve been thinking about this since I read it. It didn’t occur to me that there were few mystery fics (maybe I should write more things like that? Maybe throwing some power couple detective work 👀 ) In any case, I’m glad  I contributed with something different to the fandom, and the fact that the Charlie bits are very scarce but people who read it still liked it is really flattering.

I wanted to make sure that all the characters had strengths and flaws, I didnt want to severus-snape them so maybe I overdid it with that bit of introspection kate does at the end...

Also, I did the kiss and fade thing twice to mention sex. I know some people dont like that but since it wasnt the point of the story and I havent done research on how to write sex scenes I didnt include them. I have that on my “to learn” list.

Conclusions:

Writing the whole thing was incredible. It's my first ‘big’ project and its not a great work (there are some things I wish I did better, thats what you get when you are an agatha christie wannabe) and not writing more character backgrounds will haunt me to this day,  but I think it's at least good for a first series and I’m proud of it. I loved spending hours doing research and trying to piece together this puzzle. And of course I’m not an expert and I dont want to sound pretentious (like this is my first story) but if you are planning to write this type of genre I can be another source of tips and tricks for you.

If I read the story after a while and I dont cringe, I would call that a success.

The entrance to Grindelwald’s room was going to be in the duelling classroom, strangely shaped as a triangle. I had this system where one of the round candle lamps descended and lined up with a line on the floor (serving as separation for duels) it created the Deathly Hallows symbol. I couldn’t make that work because it wouldn't make any sense for Nerida Vulchanova to shape a room like that.  Here are some sketches:

Lucius Malfoy was going to appear as the Ministry employee that goes to Durmstrang, but after revising the events of the OoP I realised it was impossible.

Kent Jorgensen was going to be around Kate’s age and the charms teacher and he would have a small crush on her. After seeing some pics of Pen Medina, I rewrote the character completely.

The series was going to be 6 chapters long (I’m glad I decided not to) one for each month. The chapter names were ridiculous: January of Beginnings, February of reputation, March of Students, April of Discoveries, May I? and June of Endings. #tragic

The Dolohov family was going to be a part of the plot but I had to erase that part because it was unlocking another layer of complexity that I just couldnt handle.

I dont remember exactly the chapter but I got really confused with the names Rhode and Hodges and there’s one chapter where I accidentally mixed them (I corrected it I think), but for a while I could stop calling Rhode, Hodges, and vice versa lmao

Also I’d love to know your opinions about the way you read the story, I mean, I know some people read it as I published, and some other readers found the story already finished, what are the differences? Should I stop the updating system and drop a story all at once? I know it is difficult to keep up with a complex story if there’s a lot of weekly or monthly gaps between the chapters, so I wanted to know.

hellooo! ive recently discovered u as a fic writer and am making my way thru ur stuff (thank u for what u do!) and i wanted to ask how u do such a good job of getting into the heads of all these characters cause im wanting to start writing my own fics. do the characters just live rent-free in ur brain and u can see them and their actions clearly? how do u write their interactions and stuff in a way thats entertaining but still distinctly that character?

first of all, thank you😭😭😭♥️♥️♥️ second of all, im SO sorry for the super late answer ive been wayyyy too busy lately

i tried to answer this as like. coherently as I could but it did get p long so I’ll put it under a read more !

they DO often live in my head rent-free lmao i’ll be honest i tend to project onto a lot of the characters i write abt (bc unfortunately it’s often hard for me to get into the heads of characters i either don’t care abt or can’t relate to) but i do always try to make sure I get where they’re coming from emotionally before I add like..... “layers”? especially if im setting a story at a certain point in the story/a characters arc, i try to figure out their motivations in canon and then like expand on them; if im having them do smth that strays from canon, i try to find a way to make it Make Sense--like, what circumstances would lead this character to do these things? why would they do them? how would other characters react? or the other way around: if this character was put into this situation, what would they do and why would they do it? (idk what media you found me thru but to use an example, if it’s a character like zuko from atla, whose situation, motivations and world view change a lot over the course of the story, i would try to keep whatever point of his arc im exploring true to that, if that makes sense? like the way he views/interacts with the world at the beginning of his arc is different from the way he does in the middle, or at the end, so if i was setting a fic at the beginning i would try to keep his thoughts/actions accurate to that. or if im changing something intrinsic to that part of the story, i would try to figure out what repercussions would it have on the rest of his arc and character development.) and one reason I enjoy writing for minor characters a lot is that there are a lot of directions you can take things/ways you can interpret them because they often don’t get as much in-canon exploration. if a character only has a few key traits that define them in-canon, i try to figure out what i can add or explore that will stay true to those key traits and give them depth while keeping them recognizable as the characters they are in-canon. you definitely dont Have to adhere to canon at all if you dont want to--at this point i usually just pick and choose plot points that i like and throw away the ones i dont--but i do try to keep the characterization as accurate as i can even if im diverging from canon or interpreting their actions in a different way.

in terms of character interactions:

so dialogue is smth ive always struggled with just bc it’s hard to make it seem realistic sometimes, so a lot of my early fic is mostly introspective character study type stuff that was largely just me Practicing Writing. it’s a little cliche but my biggest piece of advice that has been the most helpful to me is to read it out loud!!

sometimes you don’t realize how awkward smth is phrased until you have to say it yourself and imagine whether or not you could picture yourself and/or the character saying it to someone else. a lot of the time I read All of it (ie the descriptions, the dialogue tags, etc) out loud but it’s helpful the read Just the dialogue to see if it flows like an actual conversation. i also tend to incorporate a lot of filler words if the setting isn’t like. idk a period piece or something, bc that’s how ppl Talk. at the same time, some characters have certain speech patterns/ways that they talk so it can be hard to balance that, and my advice there would be seeing if you could imagine that character saying it.

at the end of the day best thing u can do is just practice! a lot of my oldest stuff is really short little character studies with very minimal plot that i mostly just posted to see how it was received and also to Prove that I cld write and post smth. one time when I was like 15 I wrote a very pretentious 700ish word sentence fic that defied all laws of grammar just to see how long of a sentence I could write and then posted it just bc i could. i dont love a lot of my older works but like. without them i wouldn’t have been able to get feedback and grow and improve. obv im not claiming to be like famous author level good, but im definitely proud of a lot of the things ive written over the years even tho a lot of it isn’t very good or polished (i only recently discovered the helpful process of editing<3 ) bc i know ive come a long way in terms of quality. basically what im saying is definitely start writing your own fic! it can be a great creative outlet and i promise that there’ll be ppl who will be really happy to read it (myself included!)

i would say dirty, because when you decide to get a new towel it’s because the old one is dirty? 

do you think the people in our dreams are only people weve seen before? or people we make up in our heads? cause my theory is that everyone in our dreams (like the random “filler” people if you know what i mean) is someone that youve seen at least ONCE, maybe passing by on the street, a grocery store, the mall, seeing on an advertisement, etc. and your brain stores them away to be used in your dreams later. or do you think we just make up people on our own?

i remember reading smth about this and i’m pretty sure our brain is somewhat incapable to dreaming up their own people? cant remmeber if science backed this up or not lol but yeah everyone you see in your dream is someone you’ve seen before. although, there is an exception with the “have you seen this man” guy (i personally get a lil creeped out by the picture they have of him). if you don’t already know, it’s this face that many people all over the world have seen in their dreams, but no one knows who he is and their’s a sketch/generated picture of the face and a whole website for the guy but no one in the entire world knows who he is? also, i just did a google bc i just remembered reading smth recently about him and nvm its a hoax AHHAHAHAHA but yeah that’s always creeped me out.

OHHHHH  I LOVE THINKING ABOUT THIS SO MUCHHHHHH and then you consider the fact that lobsters or shrimp or smth see more colours than we do and its so cool!!! like !!!!! there is so much out there that we don’t know or see or hear because humans just arent able to process the stuff and thats so funky cool! but the reason we all unanimously agree a colour is a colour despite everyone viewing it differently is becasue we just.. like... thats what we’ve been told and that’s how we see it? every inidivdual understands “purple” to be one thing, so if i told you that this cup is purple, you would also see purple even if the purple you see if not the purple i see; you’ve jsut always associated that colour with the word “purple” and i could tell you that if you mixed blue and red together you’ll get purple and you would agree because your understanding of colours is consistent within your own little brain and my understanding is consistent in my own little brain and so we just match up the parts that are similar (the word) and it makes sense to our own inidivudla selves? as kids we’re told that the colour we percieve is called X, and soo i guess it’s passed down what we call certain colours.

Hypothetically, then, if eveyrone in this generation and the next few generations told their kids that what we perceieve as purple was orange, eventually would what we know to be purple be called orange in the future?

Memories of the Alhambra mini review

This is my third Hyun Bin drama that I watch, and it just made me fall in love with him even more. The first one I watched was Crash Landing on You, which I enjoyed but i didn’t completely lose my shit over him yet...Then I watched Secret Garden, and OMG, he was husband GOALS!!!! 

I was really hesitant about watching Memories of the Alhambra because of its scifi/mystical elements, but I was in the middle of my Hyun Bin obsession, plus I really like Park Shin-hye. And ughhhh...the drama destroyed me!

Overall i really enjoyed it. So did my husband which was annoying because I wanted to watch it alone. But obviously he was really into it because of the gaming/VR elements. He kept putting his two cents in and giving me his theories when i just wanted alone time to drool over Hyun Bin! 

Since this is a mini review I wont break down the whole drama that much, and I HAVE read negative reviews about it, which I understand, but i dont completely agree with.

The concept was really good. I did feel like they didn’t really give a good answer to all those hanging questions we had since the beginning, but they did their best. The ending.....[SPOILERS AHEAD] although I HATED it, it was a great open-ended finale. I obviously wanted a happy ending where Hyun Bin would be back and him and Park Shinhye would have an epic kiss, a proposal and a happily ever after ending......but it left us wanting more with just a glimmer of hope. I know everyone feels cheated with this ending, but to the type of drama that it was, i think it was good (still hated the shit out of it!) The entire episode overall had what almost every single drama that i watch have, a bunch of useless filler scenes that no one cares about! But I’m used to it by now so I won’t hold it against them. I think so far only Secret Garden has given me the perfect ending I’ve longed for. 

The romance was something that a lot of people, including my bestie, had concerns over. I have read reviews saying that there was NO chemistry between the leads and that their age difference was too apparent similar to Goblin. Well, I personally did not like the age difference in Goblin, but i dont know if its because I’m obsessed with Hyun Bin, but I LIVED for this romance!!!!! I wont say it was the BEST romance, but it definitely left me wanting more! Thats a reason why I can’t rank this drama in my top 10, because even though I appreciate great dramas like this one, my passion for kdramas come from the romance. They literally had like 3 beautiful moments....only 2 kisses and then they left me hanging :( His character was so hot and I loved his cynical attitude...i think that added to his sexiness. I just wanted more scenes and focus on them....maybe a bed scene perhaps? It was a great romance, one of the best chemistry couples I’ve seen....but needed more scenes!!!!!

The sequence of events and how they are presented was also criticized. I found it interesting. I do think it wasted a lot of time though because they would show repeated content....but in general it was a great method to keep me engaged in the events happening. It was confusing at first but then i really got the hang of it and added to the speculation and theory making. 

Final thoughts, this was a great kdrama with excellent acting and visuals. Great story line with great action and a romance that worked. But if you’re looking for a romcom with a happy ending, this aint it. 

I give the drama a 9/10

But my personal rating 7/10
