28. Inquisitor’s feelings on being the Herald of Andraste?

June: Hates it so much. Being pushed into a religious position is *exactly* what she escaped from from her family, and now it is being done again on an even greater scale. She vehemently denies being the Herald, but up until HLTA there was a tiny part of her wondering if it could be true, which frankly just made it worse (finding out that she was right about the Andraste thing not being real was a huge weight off her shoulders)

Ari: He does not believe in Andraste and consequently does not believe in being the Herald one bit, and isn't thrilled about being called such. And while he does not actively support it, he is well aware that denying it would neither work nor help, so he begrudgingly lets it slide.

35. Who do you want to see return in the next game?

MM there's a bunch of characters who'd be cool to see imo! Most of the DA2 cast are the first that come to mind, for different reasons; Fenris has business in Tevinter plus the whole wolf theming, Merrill has her eluvian business going on (which i think could be super interesting if she was brought in), Isabela gets around a lot and could easily be included imo (i've seen a post abt the possibility of having her ship as a home base for the next protag and i would love that so much), Anders is more unlikely i suppose but having him and Justice turn up again could be v cool. Sebastian and Aveline have less reason to be there probably but depending on how they stood with Hawke and the Inquisition they could turn up. And we already know Varric is gonna be there xd

Otherwise, i'd love to see Connor or Feynriel again! Especially Feynriel, him being a dreamer and all, and with him possibly having gone to Tevinter to study magic. And Valta!! For obvious Dwarf Lore related reasons. And/Or whoever was named Orzammar's king in DAO! I wanna know how Orzammar is doing pretty please...

Would be nice to maybe see Bull and his chargers again, or Sera! Because i love them and bc they are mercs and a red jenny respectively which means they Get Involved In Stuff and if they dont at least get a cameo i am going to be very sad.

I’ll do this for the main characters of almost all my main WIPs (mostly to get all their name meanings in one post for my own convenience). Real names are in bold, and the information on them comes from Behind the Name.

Abihira: Saoridhin, “the jealous one”

Irímé: Saoridhin, “dragon”

Ilaran: Saoridhin, ”forsaken”

Kitritúr: “brave”

Lian’s names:

Imrahil: Saoridhin, “happy; light; bright” (also a Tolkien reference)

Kirvoki: Saoridhin, “tranquil”

Vieraneth: Saoridhin, “secret”

Lian: Mandarin, “pity” (also a Tian Guan Ci Fu reference)

Diarnlan: derived from two Avallese words, ediarn meaning “protect” and lan meaning “edge of a sword”

Karandren: Avallese, “good fortune” (fantasy-equivalent-of-Apollo did not give his parents the gift of prophecy when they named him)

Rusudan: Georgian, possibly derived from Persian ruz meaning “day”.

Konstantine’s names:

Konstantine: Georgian version of Constantine meaning “constant, steadfast”.

Vasilij: Variant transliteration of Vasiliy, Russian form of Basil, meaning “king”.

Cheng Yin: Chinese, borrowed from Li Cheng Yin from Goodbye My Princess.

Darejan: Georgian; shortened version of Nestan-Darejan, which was invented by a 12th-century poet and derived from Persian nist andar jahan meaning “unique”.

Ketevan: Either the Georgian version of Katherine or derived from the Persian name Katayoun.

Hariye’s names:

Hariye: Çarisarian, “unique”

Zviad: Georgian, meaning “proud; arrogant”.

Jane: Feminine form of John meaning “God is gracious”

Arthur: Meaning unknown, possibly derived from ancient Celtic words for “bear” and “king”

Ophelia: Derived from Ancient Greek opheleia meaning “help, advantage”.

Yo-han: Behind the Name lists two possible meanings for each syllable, depending on the hanja used. I picked “daylight, sunlight” (曜, yo) and “writing brush” (翰, han) from the list. (In hangeul it’s written 요한.)

Leopold: From Old German liut (”people”) and bald (”bold, brave”), with the spelling influenced by Latin leo (”lion”).

Máté: Hungarian form of Matthew meaning “gift of God”

Rachael: Variant of Rachel meaning “ewe”

Evelyn: Derived from Aveline (meaning unknown; possibly related to Latin avis meaning “bird”

Sinclair: Derived from the name of a French town

You know what. I just did like 4 hours of research on this so imma put it here just because. Every writer should know the pain of trying to name characters.

These are all for a Berserk fic that as of yet doesn't have a determined name. Premise is simple: Griffith manages to stop Guts from leaving, suffers PTSD, gets very sick, and ultimately they end up together along with Casca and to a lesser extent Judeau. But that's not why we are here, no, we are here because of all the OC this stupid fic requires.

So, have some character names and what they mean (I swear I will draw them all someday):

First, the ones you know, for posterity and comparison: Griffith - name means "Strong Lord" or "Strong Handed Lord" depending on how you read it. Welsh Origin.

Casca - "helmet; armor or shell". Latin.

Then the OC that took a life of his own, Rudesind, aka Rudy aka Rose (from Rosamond, the Spanish/visigoth version of his name): means "One who Walks/travels" but originally meant "one who Walks the path of Fame". Old High German. Rudy is Griffith's younger half brother, disinherited.

Kaspar meaning "treasurer" "one who defends [things of value]". Greek/Roman/Latin. Griffiths older half brother and Heir apparent to the Darcy household.

Evelyn, "Desired child". From Norman French Aveline. Griffiths younger half sister.

Anice, just a different way to spell Anise, the spice. Mother of Evelyn.

Lilliana. "Pure Lilly". Unsure of origin. Mother of Rudy and Kaspar. Deceased.

Aurelius "the golden one". Latin. Griffiths biological Father and current patron/Duke of the Darcy house.

Mariene, aka Mary. "Drop of the sea; bitter; beloved". French. Griffiths biological mother. Deceased. (Sort of - she's a ghost).

Beatrice "one who brings joy". Latin. Griffiths neighbor growing up. (I have not named the kids yet). Kind of a pseudo-adopted-mom.

Oslo. "Meadow consecrated to the gods". Old Norse. Surname of the man who "took in" Griffith at 7 and made him a ward. Also his house name. Has a habit of "picking up strays".

Lucien. "Light" (literal light) or "bright eyed". Rudy's life partner. Also pretty significant side character. Grew up in the same noble household as Griffith after he left.

Einar "bold warrior". Old Norse. One of the twins Casca has. Assumed to be Guts' child (because that's how they thought twins worked back then)

Caius "rejoice, joy". Latin. The other twin. Assumed to be Griffiths child.

Dawn. Self explanatory. Unplanned surprise daughter that showed up in a basket. Claims to be of Griffith's blood. He denies this, but Guts isn't fooled. Gets passed off as Rudy's and Lucien's ward.

Alaric "all powerful ruler". Guts' biological father.

Kane "warrior". Labann's oldest child and Heir. Waylens Squire.

Oliver. Has quite a few meanings, but here takes from "olive branch" from Norman French and German. Labann's younger son and Griffith's squire. Was Corliss's squire.

Corliss "benevolent, carefree, cheery." Old English. Corliss is none of these things. Part of the Kings court and leader of a as yet unnamed group of knights. Main antagonist if there was one. Really wants to bang Griffith.

Waylen "land by the road". Old English. Corliss's best buddy and evil henchman. Has some moral fibre.

Drakkar. "Dragon". Swedish. Evil henchman of Corliss who is actually evil. Has weird fetishes that involve blood and strangulation.

I have more but they aren't as important in this one.

Those are all I have for now. :) the joy of naming things

Letter's to DA Characters - Guidelines

This is a new thing for me as well as my followers, so I figured I would create a little bit of a guideline and maybe some examples for what to send in if you're unsure but still want to do it... this will get updated frequently, I'm sure 💖

For examples, please scroll through here - Letters from DA Characters Collection - and feel free to take inspiration from how others have asked questions! :3

Please respect:

~ These are my takes on the characters, but I always try to be as faithful as possible to canon

~ You can send in your questions through a private message or a comment :3

~ Just because these are open doesn't mean I won't reply to other asks hence:

~ If you send a question to my ask box, please let me know you are sending a letter to a character, which character from the below list you are sending it to, and please make sure to send only 1-2 questions PER ask - but send as many asks as you want! Spam me, go for it. I'm up to the task!

~ Feel free to do your own question or something from the list below

~ Please be aware I am studying a master's and sometimes I might be overwhelmed with deadlines and research - if you are concerned your ask didn't get through, drop me a message but most likely, I am just a little busy at that time 💖

~ I have put OCs down there, but if you want a Hawke / Warden who is romanced with someone particular, a different gender, a different race / class etc, just let me know in the ask :3 otherwise, I will try and be as neutral as possible to ensure I don't force my headcanon onto anyone!

~ If you send a question to a character who might not be interested in replying to said question, that is not ME being uninterested, that is the character being sassy or denying you in their reply - HOWEVER if there's a question I am uncomfortable with personally, I won't answer at all. Hence, please, do spam so you will for sure get a reply from someone!

~ Merrill, Isabela, Anders and she will aid Fenris by transcribing and letting him write a sentence or two as practice whilst he learns to read!

The second Anders walks in the door, Mo knows something is wrong. His hair and robes are singed and his expression is… empty. Devoid of the passion he carried when he left the estate that morning.

Individuality – Indie – stirs restlessly at the back of their shared head. >>I don’t like seeing them like this! Where is their spark?<<

“I take it your second day at the new clinic didn’t go according to plan? You look like someone went through and kicked every cat in the city of Kirkwall,” Mo says from the couch.

Anders just silently shakes his head and makes his way upstairs to his room.

>>Get Fenris!<< Indie urges.

>>Euuuggh, why?<< Mo whines internally. At this point, her rivalry with Fenris is more of a formality than anything with real malice. A petty game they play at, despite being on mostly good terms.

>>He knows how to find Justice’s spark.<< The spirit

Mo snorts out loud. >>You know that sounds sexual, right?<<

>>Oh, absolutely.<< They confirm smugly. >>But in all seriousness, Fenris brings Justice and Anders’ true selves out. Go get him.<<

>>Fiiine.<<

But before she has the chance to do so, she hears knocking at her front door. It’s loud and steady. Indie immediately recognizes it as Aveline’s knocking.

She sighs and ambles over to open the door, mildly surprised to find not just Aveline but also Donnic, Varric, and… Cole? All standing outside her door looking worried. Donnic looks singed in much the same way as Anders. “Can I… help you?” she asks.

Indie prickles at the sight of Cole, but Mo shushes them. >>We have enough to deal with tonight, we don’t need you trying to pick fights with Cole.<<

>>Oh, so you’re allowed to have petty rivalries, but I’m not?<< Indie sulks.

>>At least my petty rivalry with Fenris is mutual! Cole likes you just fine.<<

>>He is wearing someone else’s identity!<< The spirit insists, utterly indignant.

>>You literally share a body with me, so you’re not exactly one to talk.<<

>>That’s different.<<

>>Is it, though?<<

“If you want me to go, I’ll leave,” Cole offers timidly.

“Nobody wants you to go, kid,” Varric places a reassuring hand on Cole’s back, then pins a stern look on Mo, “right, Prickles?”

Before Mo can answer, Cole darts away from the door and around the corner to… who knows where.

“See what you did?” Varric says.

“Contrary to popular belief, I don’t make a habit of controlling other people’s actions,” Mo retorts flatly.

“I’m sure he’ll be—” Aveline begins, but is interrupted by Cole returning with three cats in his arms, “—back… soon?”

“Soren, Aly, and Splotches the Magnificent wanted the fresh air,” Cole announces, stepping through the door, “but they forgot for a moment that home is safe and cozy.”

>>Alright, fine, he remembers the cats’ names. He’s not all bad.<< Indie admits.

“I’m impressed you could tell Soren and Shini apart after only meeting them once,” Mo says.

“Maybe we should come in before any more cats decide to go on an adventure?” Varric suggests, nudging Ser Scratchy-Pants and Ariwen the fennec back into the house, “Or… honorary cats.”

“Alright, everybody in,” Mo waves them in. Once everyone is in and the door is closed, Mo places her hands on her hips and asks again, “So, why are you all here, exactly?”

“Did you hear what happened?” Aveline asks, worry written across her face.

“I obviously have not, or else I wouldn’t be asking you why you’re here?” Mo retorts.

“Blondie’s clinic got burned down on day two,” Varric says.

“So much smoke…” Cole murmurs from the floor, where he has sat himself down to pet the cats and fox. “Couldn’t breathe before, then the air… suffocating… barely got out alive. And the flames... exploding potions, red-hot droplets on tender skin… so many hurt… they just came to get better.”

“Everyone got out alive, thank the Maker,” Aveline says, “but there were a lot of injuries.”

“I was there,” Donnic confirms. “It was bad. The clinic is… he’ll have to start over from scratch.”

“If he bothers to reopen at all,” Aveline adds. “It might be time for him to pass the healing torch on to someone with less of a… reputation.”

“Revolution ended in flames, now healing has ended the same way… hard to find a path when the whole forest is on fire,” Cole says solemnly as he pets between Ariwen’s gigantic ears.

“Holy shit,” Mo murmurs under her breath.

“Anyways, that’s what’s going on and why we all showed up on your doorstep,” Varric says, trying without much success to keep his voice casual. “We just figured Blondie could use some support, is all.”

“And hugs,” Cole adds.

>>I need to talk to them!<< Indie announces.

Mo rolls her eyes fondly, “Message from Indie incoming.”

She relinquishes control of her body and lets the spirit take over, an eerie lavender glow emanating from their eyes. “Justice doesn’t need hugs,” the spirit announces. “He needs a cause!” They flourish dramatically with an arm. “You can’t help them if you don’t treat them as individuals!”

“Prickles has a poi—” Varric begins before being cut off by Indie.

“Not Prickles,” Indie says, hurt seeping into their voice. “We’re not the same.”

“Sorry. Still getting used to that. Sparky has a good point,” Varric corrects himself. “If we don’t give Justice a cause, they’ll both fall apart.”

“The manifesto,” Cole says.

“Kid, that’s old news. We need a new cause, not one from before the Inquisition.”

“Not that one,” Cole insists. “So many lost years as a slave… Never let that happen again. Not to anyone.”

“Fenris’ manifesto!” Indie blurts out. “They’ve been working on it together. Yes, that’s perfect.”

“See, this is why you all need to come see me more often! This is all news to me,” Varric says, a bit hurt.

“Well, you are a bit busy these days,” Donnic points out.

“Never too busy for my family,” the dwarf says with a grin. “Speaking of family, how about we gather the rest of the gang and surprise Blondie with some hugs? I can get Broody.”

“Why doesn’t Justice have a nickname?” Indie asks.

“Can’t they both be Blondie?” asks Varric. “They have the same hair.”

“They’re different people!” Indie insists. “You should come up with a nickname for Justice.”

“Right now?”

“Yes. It will affirm his sense of self,” Indie insists. “He needs that more than ever today.”

“Okay, uhhh…” Varric thinks hard, “Shiny? Glowy? Uh… Glowworm?”

“Oh, he’ll hate being called a worm,” Aveline snorts.

“Worms are nice,” Cole adds. “They deserve justice just as much as everyone else.”

“Alright, fine. Nightlight?” the dwarf proposes.

“Better,” Indie says.

“I think we have a winner!” Varric puffs out his chest proudly.

“Alright, back on task,” Aveline pipes up. “Donnic and I can get Carver while Varric gets Fenris. Mo, can you—”

“Not Mo,” Indie interjects.

Aveline lets out a beleaguered sigh, “Spirit – Individuality – can you and Mo go get Merrill and Isabela? I assume they’re upstairs.”

“Yes, we can!” Indie beams. Aveline is still adjusting to calling them by name, so when she succeeds it feels good.

“I’ll get the cats,” Cole announces. “And Ariwen. She’s not a cat, she just thinks she is.”

“Good call, kid. Anders will like that,” Varric says, patting his shoulder.

And with that, they all split up to retrieve the rest of their little family. Indie returns the body to Mo so she can retrieve Merrill and Isabela, since they are, after all, her girlfriends. She finds them both hanging out in their shared bedroom on the top floor and quickly explains the situation to them before leading them downstairs to Anders and Justice’s bedroom, where the rest of the group is already waiting (minus Cole, who is apparently still herding cats around the house).

“Is that everyone?” whispers Fenris, whose own cat, a tiny black cat named Shadow, is perched across his shoulders. He’s also clutching a thick book to his chest.

“Minus Cole and the rest of the cats? I think so,” Varric whispers back.

Fenris nods and turns to knock on the door, “Anders? Justice? Can we come in?”

A moment later, Anders pokes his head out of his door, looking like he’s been crying. Once he sees just how many people “we” is, his eyes widen to the size of saucers.

“We heard you had a bad day,” Carver says.

“Who the fuck sets a free clinic on fire just because they don’t like the guy running it?” Isabela says.

“Some people are just so mean!” Merrill adds.

At that moment, Cole shows up with Ariwen in his arms, Siren the Accursed standing on his shoulders wailing at the top of her weird little cat lungs, and the other nine cats trotting along behind him. “Cats make you to feel better.”

Anders lets out a tired laugh and scoops Siren off of Cole’s shoulders to cradle her in his arms like a baby before Cole herds the rest of the cats into his bedroom and sits down on the floor with them. “You’re all here just to make me feel better?”

“Both of you,” Fenris corrects. “I brought my manifesto, in case working on that will help Justice.”

“How big’s your bed, Blondie?” asks Varric. “Can it fit a proper cuddle pile?”

“Uhh…” he glances back at his bed, then into the hallway, “with this many people and animals? Not a chance.”

“We could put two mattresses together on the floor,” Carver proposes.

Anders shrugs, “Sure, if you want?”

“Easiest option is Anders and Fenr—” Carver begins.

“No one. Is touching. My bed,” Fenris growls.

“I will go get my mattress from downstairs!” Carver declares, jogging down the stairs.

“I’ll… help,” Fenris sets Shadow in Anders’ bedroom and hands his manifesto to Isabela before hurrying after Carver.

“Anders, can Donnic and I move your mattress to the floor?” Aveline asks.

“Go for it,” Anders shrugs listlessly and steps aside for them to slip into his room. “Careful with the cats.”

“I’ll keep them safe!” Cole pipes up from Anders’ floor.

As Aveline and Donnic relocate his mattress, Anders steps out into the hallway and slides down the wall to slump on the floor, releasing Siren to go yowl at Cole in the bedroom.

Mo makes her way over and sits next to him. She’s not sure what to say, but she and Indie feel like the right people for the job somehow. Maybe because they know how it feels to be infamous. Maybe because they know what it’s like to be called an abomination.

“Thanks,” he whispers, even though she hasn’t said a word. They wait together in a haze as the warriors move around mattresses and gather pillows and blankets. Merrill and Isabela continue the conversation they’d been having upstairs (something about Isabela’s travels). Varric cracks a few awkward jokes. Mo tries to think of the right comfort words but never quite finds them. Indie isn’t much help.

Thankfully, the warriors work fast, so before long they’re called into the bedroom where a cushioned nest of pillows and blankets awaits them. Fenris motions for Anders to sit down in the middle and then tucks himself under the mage’s arm and rests his head on his chest. Isabela sets Fenris’ manifesto in Anders’ lap, then takes a seat near Fenris. Merrill and Mo snuggle in near her. Aveline sits on Anders’ opposite side, Donnic and Carver tucking themselves in near her. Varric sits down near them with Cole using his lap as a pillow. Ariwen and Shadow find their way into Merrill and Fenris’ laps, and the remaining cats tuck themselves in wherever they can fit. Siren trots up and yells at Anders until he picks her up.

“Okay everybody, scoot in closer! This isn’t a proper snuggle pile until everyone is touching Blondie,” Varric declares. Everybody complies, leaning in and reaching out (careful not to disturb any cats or foxes who think they’re cats) until Anders is surrounded in a protective bubble of comforting touch.

He immediately dissolves into tears, clutching both Fenris and Siren to his chest until the cat gets irritated and leaves him to sob into his partner’s hair. Merrill bursts into tears with him, earning her gentle pats from Mo and Isabela.

Eventually, Anders’ tears fade (and Merrill’s fade with them), and he touches the cover of Fenris’ manifesto in progress and looks around at his friends – his family – and says, “I don’t know why we thought we could just… walk right back into Kirkwall and restart our old life as if nothing ever happened. I… just wanted my old life back. I guess that was too much to ask.”

“You’ve got us, Blondie,” Varric pats his knee.

“In your old life, we couldn’t stand each other,” Fenris points out.

“Yes, I enjoy your company far more now,” Merrill agrees.

“And you have a lot more cats, now!” Mo adds.

“We can’t bring back the past, Anders,” Aveline squeezes his shoulder, “but we can make the future just as good, if not better.”

Anders sniffles and forces a smile, “Thanks. You’re all so good to me. I can’t… I can’t believe how lucky I am.” He hugs Fenris close and melts into the cuddle pile. “I think Justice is having an even worse time than I am, so I’m gonna let him get some hugs, even if he thinks he doesn’t need them.” He relinquishes control of his body and Justice’s familiar blue glow emanates from his eyes.

“Hello, Justice,” Fenris kisses his cheek.

“We hear you’ve been having a rough time,” says Merrill.

“Sparky says you need a nickname, so hey Nightlight!” Varric greets.

“I do not need a nickname,” Justice declares, though his body language seems more flustered than genuinely offended.

“Too bad. Take it up with Sparky. You’re Nightlight, now,” the dwarf laughs.

“I suppose I could get used to a nickname. Nightlight…” he mulls over the nickname, a faint smile on his lips.

“Did you want to work on our manifesto with me, darling?” Fenris asks, his voice soft and sultry.

“Our?” Justice asks.

“That’s what it is, is it not?” Fenris asks. “You do a lot more than just transcribe for me. You’re helping me write it. It’s ours.”

Justice practically beams, “Our manifesto… Yes. I would love to work on that.”

Isabela snickers, “This is beginning to sound suspiciously like foreplay. Do you want us to stay, or…?”

“I… would appreciate the extra company, tonight,” Justice says, blushing furiously. “Platonic… company.”

“We promise not to make things weird,” Fenris laughs.

“Can I help?” Cole asks, sitting up to peer curiously at the book.

“I, for one, would welcome your input,” Justice says, then looks to Fenris.

“I don’t see why not,” the elf agrees.

“I’ll make tea!” Merrill stands up and claps excitedly.

“Anybody care for a game of cuddle pile Wicked Grace?” asks Isabela. “It’s like regular Wicked Grace, except we have to whisper so we don’t disturb the manifesto-writing.”

“And we’re not in a circle, so everyone can see each other’s cards?” Mo quirks an eyebrow.

“Added challenge! You just have to be really good at hiding your cards,” Isabela winks.

“Sounds terrible, I’m in!” Varric laughs.

“I’ll get some cards while the tea steeps!” Merrill offers before bouncing off towards the kitchen.

“You’re all ridiculous,” Aveline shakes her head fondly.

“Come on, join us!” Donnic urges. “You’ve got nothing better to do.”

Aveline lets out something between a sigh and a chuckle, “Alright, I suppose you’re right.”

Justice looks around at them all gathered around him, tears gathering in his eyes. “You’re all staying here for… me?” he asks. “Not just Anders? Me?”

“Course we are, Nightlight,” Varric shoots him a grin. “You’ve been with us as long as Anders has, haven’t you?”

“It just took us longer to get to know you because you spent most of that time hiding in the back of Anders’ head and only coming out to have the occasional meltdown,” Mo points out.

“But you’ve really grown on us,” Isabela drapes herself across the pillow pile he’s leaning against. “Especially after you pulled that giant stick out of your ass during our adventures in Rivain with your Warden friends.”

“We’re not going anywhere until you’re ready for us to leave,” Aveline assures. “You’re family.”

“Well then,” Justice takes a deep breath and blinks back tears, “I am honored to be a part of such a good family. You all have my thanks.”

hello sexy stranger who is not me i WOULD like to talk about therese aka theresa but i changed her name a little bit cause it didnt sound like. idk french enough

anyways therese florien is louis florien (oc)'s younger sister and also the last monarch of the northern empire (actually when she became queen she was the last monarch of just the north because the south and the west had broken off by that point but we'll get to that).

in the main story, 20-30 years after all these events ill be telling later take place, samira and the rest of the continent know her as 'The Coward Queen/Tea-time Queen' because she only ruled for a couple days and immediately forsook the throne when the southern and ko'bi army approached the capital. currently, she resides in the florien ancestral home (summerhead) on the northern continent, and she's converted the castle into both a prayer place and a place where travelers and vagabonds and so on can stay for safety. and she's basically become like a priestess . long long long backstory under the cut

anyways . the first we know of her is that she's louis' younger sister, she's very religious, she's very timid, and she's very close to her father gareth...there are reasons for the last two that have to do with her late mother lorete. so like. louis is a sorcerer which lorete discovered when he was just a child (northern sorcerers are believed to be willingly practicing dark magic against their religion or whatever) and the florien family is already in some deep shit with the royal family (tldr floriens used to be the royal family, were deposed and murdered and so on and also gareth pissed off his cousin back when they were in their twenties or whatever, this will all be relevant later) and so lorete knew that her son would be taken away/the family wld be punished or whatever adn devoted all her attention towards her son and towards concealing his magic from everyone, including his father.

and when she gives birth to therese, her attention is still all lazer focused on louis, and gareth, who doesn't know why she's ignoring her in the first place basically raises his daughter alone up until lorete dies of an outbreak of plague or whatever when therese is four and then he's raising the eight year old louis AND therese alone. therese's timidity comes from both the paranoia her mother exuded when she was little, lorete's death, the fact that when she was young she saw a jousting accident involving her father in which a man died. her piousness comes from the fact that the only thing she really did when she was younger was pray and read while her father was out doing knightly duties (cough cough colonizing) and it provided an outlet for her to vent her emotions ab her upbringing

also, there's a conspiracy the floriens were involved in with a couple other families set up by gareth's grandmother to restore the florien family on the throne (re: louis would become king when the time came) so like even then everyone always gave her brother attention over her because they were convinced he would be king and she was just the second child they didn't care about. in this world like women are as eligible to inherit and own land just as much as men btw louis was just the eldest

anyways because of her very like. kind of stuck up religious nature, her fear, and because the floriens are already kind of pariahs her first friends are just louis' friends, charicle elaphin (the elaphins are a family close 2 the floriens) and the strange iloro girl whos in training to be a knight (kidlat, but her 'northern name' is claire), but they get along very well, making a little sort of friend group.

as the years get on, therese really keeps herself busy just by taking care of her, who's very infirm, and reading more theological stuff (like by her hero, her ancestor aveline florien who was a priestess and religious reformer) and even writing a bit of her own stuff. to the outside world though, her interiority is looked down upon and royal family supporters (ie, against the floriens) even spread rumors about her, like that she's a secret sorcerer or something (the florien family has always had accusations of sorcery flung against them, little do they know there is a witch in her family but it's her brother who's actually the sorcerer)

we mostly either see her thru the perspective of kidlat, who likes her but feels a bit alienated to her like how kidlat feels alienated by everything northern, or louis who is like. apathetic towards her like he feels some affection for her because they're siblings of course but he's not really close to her and he thinks her piousness is self righteous and finds her deep fear and timidity unpleasant to deal with...tho, his greatest resentment towards her comes from the fact that he's always felt his father has preferred her over him (he does btw. like louis isn't wrong lol)

anyways the royal family sets up a wedding for her because louis refuses to be married, and claims this is out of love for their cousins, but this is just really a ploy to royally piss off gareth by taking his other child away from his household (something they already did to louis), and therese is um. well she's very angry and upset about this, which louis (and no one else, except for her father ofc) doesn't realize until the day of her wedding when he's getting her ready. she doesn't want to leave her father and summerhead, she wants to devote her life to the Goddess instead of some random husband, and she, like the rest of the floriens incl louis feels very humiliated and cheated by the way she's being treated when she has the right to the throne, when she and co should be in charge....this surprises louis because. he didnt know other people had feelings. also at some point therese wants to ask charicle to marry her instead because he's very religious as well and he's gay so neither of them would have pressure to feel love for the other, but louis tells her to not do that by saying oh well he's half western you're a florien almost-princess which convinces her to not do that

anyways she does get married to this guy, and has a kid (eventually), but continues to constantly visit her own family and gareth dies of like. natural causes or whatever (also stress because of louis being a cunt asshole or whatever and therese leaving him and colonizer guilt and a bad leg infection and honestly the man had a lot going on tbh) which really really bums her out, louis also yells at her because again, poorly hidden resentment over his father's preferential treatment of her which makes her even more upset

also later on when the king is dying she tries to pray for him at his bedside but the queen, who again, does not like the floriens, gets mad, calls her a witch and devil or whatever whos killing him, tries to beat her etc, and finally therese has had it she's HAD it and her big joker breaking point moment is. throwing a shoe at the queen and calling her a 'very godless lady'

anyways later later after aeetes (yeah remember him) kills prince edouard, who was about to be crowned king, and the west, galvanized by the south breaking off and the death of the Sort of King, breaks off as well and starts waging war against the northern forces, the remaining northern lords are like. well shit. whos going to be in charge. maybe the floriens again? but..... louis has already ran off chasing after the deserter kidlat (and unbeknownst to everyone, has died in a tragic mysterious Axe Murder Accident) so the crown goes to...you guessed it....therese! anyways she's crowned, only of the north, which is the only nation the crown has juristiction over at this point, but when the southern and ko'bi forces annihilate the remainder of the loyal northern knights (many northern families have tried to start their own factions to try to reconquer the continent, even fighting each other..this is not working) and move up to take the throne a couple days afterward, her deep fear that she's always carried with her leads to her immediately forfeiting the crown and running away....

i wrote a little something from her perspective on her coronation, basically she believes that the goddess has put this in her hands for a reason, she believes and knows she's truly the heir to the great florien kings and queens, she's apathetic towards the (supposed) death of her brother because um. the way he treated her for all of her life, though she does feel a great emptiness now that he's gone, she wishes her mother and father were there to see her, but there's always that. undercurrent of anxiety and uncertainty she's always had. so you can kind of see what she eventually does coming from a mile away

It was the end of a lazy evening. Caretaker stretched as the credits of the last movie rolled. Whumpee was draped across her lap and had apparently fallen asleep somewhere during the movie. She wasn’t sure if he even witnessed the climax. Even asleep Whumpee had a soft smile on his lips; he seemed truly at peace.

It hadn’t always been like that.

A year ago, serenity like this would have been unthinkable. Maybe he would have crawled into her lap if she ordered him to, but he wouldn’t have allowed himself to relax. He wouldn’t have been able to.

A year ago, he still called himself Pet or Mutt. He would beg for punishment, beg to be allowed necessities like sleep or food. But never for mercy because he’d thought he didn’t deserve it.

A year ago, Whumpee didn’t even remember they lived together for years prior.

But he did now, and that was all that mattered. God, how she had missed him and the time they spent together. Caretaker wanted to savor it all, savor every little moment she could spend with him.

With a smile playing on her lips, she brushed a stray piece of hair from his scarred face. She didn’t want to wake Whumpee up but she would have to. No matter how much she wanted it, they couldn’t spend the night like this. In the morning, his already aching back would trouble him even more. He was frankly too big for her couch, his feet already dangling over the side. With one hand she was playing with his soft curls, scratching the nape of his neck, and trying to grab the remote with the other – without success.

It had to be done. Caretaker softly whispered his name, tracing his jawline in an attempt to wake him up. He wouldn't budge.

“Whumpee”, the name came out as a soft chuckle. “Whumpee, you need to wake up.”

Again, nothing.

This time she held him by his shoulders and started shaking him gently. Two bleary brown eyes stared up at her, blinking a couple of times. A sleepy groan escaped his lips as he struggled to sit upright. Somehow Caretaker doubted that Whumpee was truly awake.

She stood up and held her hand out to him. “Let’s get you to bed, big guy.”

Loosely, he took her hands and let himself be pulled up, almost immediately resting his head on top of hers.

“Yes, Master”, he breathed into her hair.

Caretaker could feel her blood running cold. She froze, waiting for any indication of what happened, any sign that Whumpee wasn’t feeling well.

But he didn’t. He didn’t tense up or start shaking. He didn’t fall on his knees or stare at her in adoration and obedience or wait for her order. In fact, he didn’t seem to even realize what he’d said. Instead, he just nuzzled further into her locks, almost falling asleep on his feet.

Slowly, she took a step backward, his hands still in hers, waiting to see if he’d follow. Whumpee shuffled along, although at a snail’s pace. Caretaker didn’t know whether to bring up what had happened but one look in his half-lidded eyes told her that any attempt at communication would just pass by him. Chances were he wouldn’t even remember how he got to bed in the morning.

She took him upstairs where –at the sight of his own bed– he staggered forward and flopped down on his messy sheets. Caretaker followed him inside to tuck him in. While she was securing the blanket under his shoulders, Whumpee loosely grabbed one of her hands in his much bigger one and pressed it to his cheek.

“G’night…”, he murmured into her hand.

She couldn’t understand what he said after that and she wasn’t sure she wanted to know the answer.

Got really long so, under the cut!

Wardens

Isadora Cousland - 7ft. Tall Warden-Queen. Alistair romance. Relies heavily on intimidation, especially with people she doesn't like, but is overall a good person. Once broke Thomas Howe's nose for calling her "Her father's half-qun bastard"-- proceeded to become fascinated with the Qunari and solidified her becoming a warrior. Tends to rush into things without a plan. Radically pro-elf and pro-mage. I made up a whole religion based on what we know of Avaar's religion and some irl Celtic inspired mythos for her bc I couldn't see her being fully agnostic but she can't stand the Chantry. Oghren taught her how to be a berserker. Sten and her are platonic kadans. Her favorite color is dark blue!

Michai Surana- As feral as Isadora, but keeps it more or less contained-- very good at The Game and knowing when to speak to his advantage. Incredibly intelligent and gets frustrated if he's outsmarted. Did call Cailin a shem to his face though. Alistair romance (he was my first bi mod) and helps his dear King in court. I have a whole tragic backstory about his first romantic relationship with Cullen that ended in tragedy (bc of the Kinloch stuff). In response, he decided to become everything Cullen would hate-- he outsmarts the desire demon and becomes a blood mage and then studies as an arcane warrior. Extremely close with Anders. Kieran is his son and he and Morrigan are actually very good friends who judge people together. His favorite color is goldenrod.

Jacobi Amell - Extremely shy and soft spoken spirit healer. Considers himself Wynne's apprentice. Immensely kind and empathic, cries easily when something is emotionally moving. Alistair and him are platonic soul mates. They are every bro meme. They are ride or die. Zevran marries Jacobi and basically gets Alistair as an eternal third wheel. Keeps Alistair a Warden and chooses to trust Anora. His favorite color is purple.

Hawkes

Garrett Hawke - Is Garrett really an OC? I feel like the standard purple mage Hawke is kind of his own character but he is a Fenris-mancer Force mage. Carver becomes a Grey Warden (and Isadora's right hand man!) and, while he sends Anders away, he spares him. Grows to regret that as Anders was part of his found family. His favorite color is also purple, based on his personality!

Ash Hawke - Oh Ash. Ash is non-binary mage who is starts purple but has an easy to switch to red temper. They are a force mage mainly. They were super close with Carver growing up and is fiercely protective of him. After they encounter Corypheous, they decide to leave Carver behind when they go to the Deeproads. Rivals Aveline as they blame her for Carver signing up with the Templars bc of her actions that barred him from the guard. Romances Fenris at first, but doesn't wait for him as they're not that kind of person. Ends up romancing Anders and approves of the Chantry explosion. Later, Fenhanders gets together around Post-Inquistion Era. Their favorite color is red.

Aurora Hawke - So. I tend to favor purple mage Hawke and Aurora is no different. Aurora is very good at pretending to be a proper lady like Leandra wants, but she's extremely raunchy and loud with her friends. Somehow, Sebastian falls for this-- though, they are a rivalmance that gets broken when Aurora spares Anders. Another Templar Carver timeline and you can see this and her featured in my fic Winter Rains if you like Canders. She does get left in the Fade. Her favorite color is a fiery orange.

Aingheal Hawke - I'm including her bc while she's less fleshed out, she's my warrior Hawke. Fiercely protective of her sister Bethany who ends up in the circle as well as her wife Merrill. While she sides with the mages, she kills Anders in an effort to keep them safe which... like none of my other Hawkes do. Her favorite color is black.

Inquisitors

Shiva Cadash - From hardened killer to long suffering mom friend. Dwarf dual-wielding rogue. Shiva was trained to be an assassin from birth and doesn't know how to really relate to people at first. Varric especially helps her learn to be a person. She grows close with Cole, Dorian, Varric, and Bull but Vivienne becomes like a sister to her, with Vivienne buying Shiva her first dress something she never had before. Vivienne does end up becoming Divine. At first she has a strange relationship with Solas who isn't interested in her that way and eventually she pulls away as she catches on to his "even though you're a dwarf" attitude towards her. To both her surprise and his, she and Blackwall fall in love. Her favorite color is emerald green.

Asaara Adaar - Asaara lies about his origin, honestly. While he is Tal-Voshoth, his Tamarassan discovered he was a sarebaas at a very young age. She steals him and another imekari who was always protective of him away and names them Asaara and Arug (Arug is actually my friend's Inquisitor!). She marries another Tal-Voshoth who becomes their father. Is smart and hates being considered stupid and will verbally rip people a new one. Everything about Asaara's story tends to be about first impressions vs reality. On principle, he likes Solas and despises Cullen when they first meet. Iron Bull and him don't exactly get along at first. Dorian and him get off on a rocky start being a Qunari and a Tevinter. So on and so forth. But as he gets to know everyone and see their true colors, his opinions change and he even falls in love with Dorian. His favorite colors are turquoise and mauve.

Day 7: Fighting 1 - Methods

Elissa

Elissa is an accomplished theoretical fighter before the blight, but hasn’t been in any combat aside from sparring. Her style begins relying heavily on her quickness to avoid a blow rather than a sword to block it. Later, she becomes both quicker, so more able to dodge damage, and more defensive, with a focus on blocking with one or both of her longswords. Her fighting style shifts to a battle of attrition as well: she typically coats her blades in a poison of some sort and darts in for biting attacks before dancing away. Her first kill is the Howe soldier who tries to assassinate her and does kill Iona, and the impact doesn’t hit her until she’s already used to killing people who threaten her and hers.

Marian

Hawke has killed darkspawn as a soldier in the King’s army prior to the blight, and was more than prepared to kill Aveline and Wesley herself if they threatened Bethany further. Her strategy runs reckless, and she tends to barrel into the fray with her greatsword to act as a human shield to her companions (so it’s a good thing she almost always has a healer handy). Her first kill is at the gates of Kirkwall, fighting the other deserting Fereldan soldiers attacking the guard posted there. She does her best not to think of it, and that becomes easier as her body count rises over the years, much to her quiet dismay.

Evelyn

Evelyn prefers not to fight, and is devastated at her first kill: a templar sent after her and her apprentices after escaping from the annulment of Ostwick. She sees his face in nightmares for years after the fact, joining the others she had to kill to defend herself and others. As a fighting strategy, Evelyn tends toward the defensive: a set of ice mines to limit her opponent’s ability to attack followed by strikes from her spirit blade. She is absolutely abysmal fighting at first, but, between Dorian and Solas, she gains the confidence and proper motivation from within she needs to protect herself.

11. Is there any OC of yours you could describe as a “sunshine”?

Yes lmao, I have two OCs who are essentially the Sun (or that world’s sun god) personified! Their names are Dyani Alvarzhan and Sun King Athar. Dyani’s the “current” host of the Sun spirit, and Athar was the host about years 1000 before her. Here’s both of them with their corresponding Moon spirit host and wife!! (super old drawings please excuse the not-amazingness of them)

24. If you could meet one OC of yours, who would it be and why?

Omg that’s so hard... Well for once it wouldn’t be Jace or Aurelia, bc they’re both lowkey bitches lmao.

35. Any sibling characters?

Many many many sibling characters. But the first two that came to mind were the Deron twins, Anton and Ava (Aveline).

Had to make them a new drawing bc I couldn’t be bothered to search through my sketchbooks from when I was 14 lmao. Their oc universe (I don’t think I’ve talked about it here) is more or less ATLA meets Star Wars, and they’re both part of this Uprising against this evil fascist empire called The Unity. They’re both like 200% muscles and share a single braincell when it comes to anything that isn’t fighting (Anton) or mechanics (Ava).

46. Has anyone ever told you that you treat your OCs badly?

No lol. I give people horrible backstories, but they (ok, the main characters) always get nice and happy epilogues... so I don’t think I’ve ever merited being told that lol.

like for all of the DA games? oh gods, i wish i was consistent lmao, with like oc’s, but basically, the gameplays are always the same. but im always chaotic good

origins:

usually play as dalish elf

romance zevran

king alistair (for the elves, and for the good of ferelden. i know hes happy as a warden, but hes a good man. a good king. he is a person first and cares about people. and given his background, how he loathes the chantry/templars. i just cannot not make him king).

i do the ritual with morrigan, bc i cant do that to zevran.

befriend sten, give him his sword back

side with mages, always, anders is right, EVERY TIME
