Another day of working and recording for NCT Dream upcoming new album, it's getting late as i look at the watch on my wrist showing that it hits 01.11 and just sighs cause i realize it is been a longg day.

The head producer got up with his friends leaving along with him, only leaving me, jisung and mark that stays behind waiting for his members to finish first. Mark doesn't really bother answering anyone since he had his earphone on and probably replaying things he had recorded before.

"Hey Noona. I'll just go right in now" Jisung greets with a smile under his mask, i barely greet back as he entered the recording room. "Alright jisung, let's do the work now." I talk as i push the button for him to hear me.

It ends around 3am. It was probably dark outside, but i stayed on my chair with jisung and mark who is getting ready to leave soon. "Yo, I'm leaving first okay?" I nod at mark and jisung just waving to the older one as he just laying his body on the sofa right behind me.

"long day, huh?" Jisung asks shortly, not that he is the type to talk to me first, i just nod as i held my temples together to give them soft massage. Jisung saw and just laughed at it.

"aren't you going with your friends?" It's not usual for him to stay late here so i asked that. "No- uh- i don't really feel like to go early today" he answers as he sat up properly. I guess we had interest to each other, for idk the reason is- but you've been dressing pretty comfy with hoodies and sweatpants too." I just hums at his explanation, not knowing where is this going to. But jisung? The sudden change of personality here kind of confused you.

"i know you're confused why am i talking a lot and talking first to you like this but. I like how you look noona." Another explanation coming rather soft from his tone, "awh, well thanks jisung. I'd rather be comfy these days" i chuckles as i replied.

"but hm.. i just wondering of something more now, can i ask you more?" Jisung straighten up his seat position as he put his face on his palm as he looking at me, but i just nod for the question.

📝 haechan journal

🌿 Entry No. 1

There's just something about Haechan and his attitude towards his career that makes you want to root for him.

He debuted at 16. He wasn't as famous as the rest of the group then. He was the youngest. He's yet to establish his role in NCT. He even admitted recently that during the early days of NCT, he was just happy to be there.

He's extremely talented. Despite that, he went through comebacks where he has little to no lines in songs, and barely any exposure in their choreographies, especially in 127. He was a vital part of Dream, tho, so it was bearable.

Heachan being reassigned as a main vocalist in 127 and debuting in an NCT U vocal group with a YYJ ballad was just a thing waiting to happen. He's born to be a singer. His parents are both musically-inclined. He grew up with respected musical influences that shaped his identity. He's also a great dancer with technical training pre-debut, and he was the best rapper among his fellow trainees during their training period. It's just natural that with time, he'll get recognized for his talents.

That said, the time came earlier because Haechan, aside from being naturally gifted, is also a hardworker. This shows whenever he's in a recording studio, during dance practices, or when they're shooting their music videos.

According to their producers, Haechan is usually the Neo who finishes recording in the shortest span of time. That makes sense because he enters the studio having figured out what to do with his parts.

Haechan is very goofy and playful most of the time, but the shift in attitude whenever he enters the recording booth is undeniable. You'll really find him the most serious when he is recording.

He records his parts knowing what he already wants to do with them. It's actually rare to see him ask the producers what he's going to do with his parts. He'd rather ask for opinion about a change he wants to do to his part which I think speaks volumes about him as an artist.

This also reflects on his dream as a singer-songwriter. He's a very goal-oriented person who knows what he has to do to succeed. He's very proactive about a future solo career that I just wish SM would give him more oportunities to grow individually. So far, he only has one OST to his name. It's a good thing that he released 2 of the songs he made during The Link concerts, but I hope in the near future, they will be available on music platforms. The songs deserve to be heard by more people.

He's also very diligent about dancing. He's trained in ballet, jazz, contemporary, and sports dance. I bet it was hard to incorporate a more ballet/contemporary training in kpop compared to a more urban hiphop training but he made it work beautifully.

He is also one of the members who easily memorizes choreographies. Although he's in three active units, meaning he has more choreographies to remember, he doesn't slack off. He's one of the Neos that the mebers go to when recalling choreographies.

He's also seen in a lot of their music video shoots practicing the dance steps during his free time. With a schedule as grueling as his, he might not have the time to practice as much as the rest of the group is. His dedication to his craft is immense because you will never catch him slacking off despite this.

I'm aware that for some, recording seriously and practicing choreographies during your free time might be a bare minimum, but to me, it speaks about his work ethics and his whole perspective about his career.

He's relatively one of the most successful members of NCT at this point, just basing on the fact that from an average member, he's carved a place in the group that only he can fill. He's also built and grew a stable fandom even though he only had opportunities for solo promotions in 2022. He's one of the most popular now (and his selling power good lord). All these and he remains humble (that sometimes I just want him to be more vocal about his achievements cos I always get the urge to push him to the mic and give a speech whenever they win on music shows). He works just as hard, if not harder, as when he was a trainee.

He's such a great person to root for and look up to, and he's inspired me to work harder for myself in more ways than one. 🧡

imma be honest - other than exo and got7 (mostly the 3rd gen bg's) boy groups nowadays aren't really my type. nct used to have an amazing array of songs, so much talent (especially with Mark and taeyong and ten, DONT GET ME STARTWD ON WAYV ARGHHH) but fuckkkk now with their new sound like sticker - it's driving me batshit insane. its just plain not doing for me unfortunately

usually when I hear a song, I prioritise coherence and good grammar, which most songs nowadays don't really have - new jeans, twice and stay c !!!!!!! arghhhh they really hit the nail so well !!!!! ALONG WITH G-IDLE TOO !!! GYU I MISS SOOJIN SO MUCH TBH !!!!! ahhh my kpop era was definitely a little cringy but auahahahah there were so many good memories there! 💗

waaaaah i agree with you on basically everything here wow ! i can't say much for got7 since i've never really taken the time to listen to their stuff, but exo reallyy has a superior discography idc what anybody says ! i've seen ppl compare them to bts and other groups and i'm always just like ? ? no hate to bts ! their older stuff is good ngl, but exo are literally on a league of their own lmao, there's no other way to put it yk.

and aaaaah i def get what you mean abt nct ! ! i've been a sticker + 2 baddies enjoyer since day one lmao but i have no problem in admitting that their discography has def seen better days ! ! nct as a whole has been so mismanaged lately it's insane :/ sungchan + shotaro debuted two years ago and are stil unitless. i think they're gonna debut soon in a new unit with the smrookies, but even then idk how much i actually like that idea bc although i really freaking want to see those two finally get under the spotlight, i can't help but wonder if a new unit won't just make everything worst ! mark + haechan haven't stopped since 2020 between dream & 127 schedules, nct 127 went basically one entire year without a comeback and had what ? two weeks of promotions ? once they finally got one ? i'm not even gonna talk about the fact that wayv haven't had any comebacks since early 2021 and we're still waiting to know if they'll continue as 6 or as 7 or what the heck is gonna happen with them in general. it makes me so mad seeing all these guys with so much potential and talent get left behind AND BY SM OF ALL COMPANIES ! you'd think such a big company would be exactly the one to be able to handle such a huge project but ig not.

boy groups in general but specially 4th gen ones i feel like have been leaning sm towards the noise music lane lately and although there's a select few that do it kind of alright, most of them are basically just making fans drift away from them. that's why i think all these girl groups have been doing so well ! their sound is experimental in it's own way and they all have their own vibe, but that just goes to show that you can do something new that will separate you from others while still producing good music. newjeans got where they are bc their sound was something new, (g)-idle try so many concepts and still manage to do amazing every time, ive, le sserafim, stayc ALL OF THEM have something unique that sets them apart but their music is still good and liked by most people, unlike what we've seen with boy groups yk — they'll have something that sets them apart but not for the best of reasons lmao.

kpop has been so insane lately and i honestly wonder why i haven't given up on it completely yet bc this industry is absolutely too much lmao. there's so many gems in it but companies nowadays only care abt money and, maybe without realizing, all they're doing is ruining their groups. we need more good music, not tiktok tunes and challenges AND VERY MUCH NOT US VALIDATION ! although i think it's great that 4th gen is so focused on making kpop a global genre instead of it having such a limited audience, i also think it's so stupid to have topping on the us charts as your main goal. idk maybe i'm wrong for this but it's just what i've been noticing as someone who has kind of been just listening to kpop and looking at it from afar instead of actually being super engrossed in the fandoms yk

You’re WayVs assistant and you’re incredibly whipped for their charismatic rapper after he stole a steamy kiss from you a year ago.

You went through your schedule frantically, realizing that you needed to be somewhere right now. Most of of the staff rooms were empty and you couldn’t find any of the NCT boys anywhere. Being an assistant manager for WayV at SM seemed like a dream job but why have the past couple of months been literal hell ?

SM had hired you to watch over the WayV unit during the resonance promotions seeing as you were the most capable at mandarin than the rest of the assistants, and frankly the only one who hadn’t complained about their recklessness or the farm that was developing at their dorm.

The only issue with being assigned to WayV right now was an attachment to one of the members you wish you’d forgotten. Wong Yukhei, or better known by his stage name Lucas. Ever since you laid eyes on him you felt giddy, like a school girl going through her first crush.

Lucas was so nice to you from the very beginning. He made you comfortable enough to joke around them and always treated you like a friend rather than an employee. The problem though started at SM’s Christmas party a year back.

“Y/n what are you doing here ?” He said, that familiar grin spread across his face as he approached you.

“Hey-y I’m just getting some fresh air” you had responded shyly, leaning against the wall as his huge frame stood in front of you.

You couldn’t remember much of how the rest of the conversation went but you do remember at some point Lucas had pinned you against the wall and kissed you. You remembered his large hands grope your thighs as he groaned into the kiss, whispering sweet nothings into your ear. He smelled like tequila and his usual Tom Ford cologne, having him that close was intoxicating. You also remembered when it came to an end, his band mate Yangyang had shouted for him, and Lucas’s last words to you that night was “let me know if you wanna do that again sometime.”

After that night he moved on like nothing happened. It’s not like he didn’t talk to you but he had completely erased that you two had shared an intimate moment together. You hated that after that night your feelings for him had only escalated and unfortunately you couldn’t do anything about that.

You dragged your feet across the floor as you made your way over to the recording studio as that’s where your schedule needed you to be right now. WayV was recording their individual track for the resonance album and you had to make sure all their needs during recording were met.

Opening the door you were greeted by WinWin and Xiaojun, WinWin in the booth and Xiaojun on the couch memorizing his lines.

You playfully nudged him as you took your seat, “you need any snacks or water ?”

“I’m good thanks, the producer just got us drinks too” Xiaojun smiled sweetly.

You nodded and slumped into the couch as he now took his turn and WinWin waved you a goodbye before leaving the studio. Something in you hoped that you missed Lucas’s recording, but a little part of you didn’t.

You got your answer pretty soon when the door flung open and Lucas walked in, sporting a simple black tank top and jeans. His hair was pushed out of his face and he wore clear spectacles. He was effortlessly hot and he knew it.

You had no idea how long you were checking him out but Lucas had noticed and waved his hand in front of your face.

“Hey you” he giggled and awaited a high 5 from you.

You pressed your lips together and hi5ed him, hating that he was still so nice instead of being a dick about the whole situation. Lucas was cocky but not in the way where he would’ve boasted about kissing you or mocked your little crush on him. But it still hurt how normal he was. It hurt so much.

“Alright Lucas we’ll take it from your verse” the producer said as Lucas stepped into the booth and placed the headphones on his head.

He sucked in his lip as his eyebrows knitted together, reading the words before nodding his head to the music that began to fade in.

You knew about their song Nectar. The words, the innuendos, the whole message behind it and it didn’t surprise you that the boys were quite excited to perform this song.

Lucas was his usual playful self, dancing along to the beat and just having fun with the recording. You unconsciously bit down on your lip as Lucas lifted up his shirt in order to feel the cool breeze of the a/c, still dancing along to the beat.

“Great stuff man, hey I’m gonna go meet with the main producers real quick I’ll be back in an hour or so” the producer turned back to you and you nodded.

Suddenly there was an uncomfortable tension in the air as Lucas emerged from the booth and grabbed a bottle of water from the coffee table. You watched as he downed the whole bottle, the veins in his neck became prominent as he swallowed.

You diverted your attention to your phone, hoping he didn’t catch you staring or notice your reddened ears.

“What did you think ?” Lucas asked as he took a seat on the coffee table in front of you, wiping away the small beads of sweat from his forehead.

You looked up at him, “of what...?”

“My recording, stupid” he chuckled and playfully knocked his knee against yours.

“Oh it was good” you replied shyly, his eyes were practically burning into yours as he talked.

Lucas sat back placing his hands behind him for support and spread his legs as he cocked his head to the side.

“I thought you liked me...is it just good?”

“Huh w-what I don’t like you...what” you were a stuttering mess as you tried to compose yourself.

Lucas laughed loud and ran his fingers through his hair, “you’re so cute oh my God it’s insane you know that ?”

You kept quiet, afraid to make yourself look stupid in front of him again when you felt him lean in and place his index finger under your chin, lifting it to meet his gaze once more.

“Those innocent eyes drive me crazy, just like that night we...were together. You remember ?” He licked his bottom lip.

“Y-yeah I do” you murmured placing your hands in your lap and twirled your rings nervously.

“I was waiting for you to let me know when you wanted to do that again and you never did” Lucas pouted and stroked your cheek, “you don’t like me ?”

“No that’s not it!” You blurted and he chuckled. You sighed and swallowed hard, “I do like you Lucas but you just kinda ignored me after so I thought you didn’t like me...”

Lucas’s eyes widened and his lips curled into a smile as he his hands moved to your lap and laced his fingers with yours.

“I clearly remembered telling you to let me know if you wanted to, I thought me kissing you was enough to let you know how I felt about you y/n” Lucas sighed, “when you didn’t respond after I assumed you weren’t into it.”

You groaned loudly and playfully shoved him, “well next time be more clear will you ?!”

Lucas grabbed your face and pulled you into a passionate kiss, quickly dominating it and cheekily bit on your bottom lip before pulling away.

“Is that clear enough for you ?” He said lowly as his hands moved to your sides and drew circles on your hips.

“I meant be more vocal Lucas” you rolled your eyes yet still flushed from his incredible kiss.

Lucas moved from the coffee table to the couch and in one Swift movement he had you on his lap, straddling him.

He laid his head back as he looked at you through hooded eyes and wet his bottom lip with his tongue.

“Vocal huh ?” He mused.

You tried your best not to move on top of him, the last thing you wanted was to get a tiny taste of friction and going all the way in your workplace studio.

“I don’t want to be just a fuck buddy if that’s what you’re into...”

“Now where the hell did I say that damn y/n what do you think of me?” Lucas chuckled and fake cried into his hands.

“I’m sorry I just wanted to put it out there” you bit down on your lip and played with the material of his shirt.

“I want more, Ofcourse I want more” Lucas groaned and pulled you closer, “you know Johnny hyung told me you’re out of my league”

“I-I’m out of y-your league ?”

“I mean he’s kinda right though, you’re perfect I’m sure any of the guys were waiting to get to you” Lucas pouted and placed a soft peck on your neck.

“Well I only want you...” you mumbled not noticing Lucas’s eyes brighten, all you felt was him bear hugging you and placed butterfly kisses all over your face and neck.

“Good!” Lucas grinned before his eyes became dark again, “so now that I’m vocal, I want to hear a different type of vocal from you y/n.”

𝐧𝐜𝐭 𝐝𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐦 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: 𝐬𝐞𝐱𝐲 𝐝𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐚𝐧𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐢𝐝𝐨𝐥

— [era: 2020] wherein aiko got caught in a compromising position with enhypen's sunghoon.

While NCT, and NCT Dream at that, was not a fourth generational group, their ages still match those that debuted from 2017-2018 onwards.

This essentially meant that when MNET decided to conduct a special stage for those who were born from 2000 onwards, they were bound to invite some members from NCT Dream to participate.

Following Aiko's popularity in her past collaboration stages, she was, once again, invited to be one of the idols to perform on the special stage — however, this time, she was invited together with Jaemin.

In an unfortunate sense, the special stage was to be some sort of partnership between idols, randomized and paired by the show producers themselves — dancing to a toned-down version of Hyuna and Hyunseung's Trouble Maker.

To say the least, the fans were ecstatic, as the stage would be bringing back a song that took the KPOP world by storm when it was released back in 2011 — Years before any of these idol youngsters even debuted.

To Jaemin (and the Dream's) dismay, Aiko was partnered up with a junior, two years younger than her with the name of Park Sunghoon — the rising star from Enhypen that transitioned from being a figure skating athlete to a boy group idol.

And as the performance required some solo stage per pair (there were a total of three!), Aiko felt responsible to take charge of her and Sunghoon's practice, as she reasoned that she was the older and the senior, and thus invited the young boy to practice in the SM dance room.

The only problem was, she invited him way too late into the night, and she didn't even tell her seven protective older (and younger) brothers about it.

As a result, when the seven members of Dream opened the door to their usual dance practice room — with the sole intent of looking for Aiko, only to find her in a very questionable position with Sunghoon, their thoughts spiraled into chaos.

MARK would laugh uncomfortably, a strained smile on his face as he flits his eyes on both Aiko and Sunghoon—with Aiko having a nonchalant expression and Sunghoon having a relatively calm one. He would then awkwardly point his finger at the young boy, silently questioning his identity while bowing respectfully. Mark would try to balance his emotions — from shock to confusion to even slight protectiveness. But after Aiko explained the situation, Mark would be a giggling and smirking mess, very much amused at the other members' reactions as he shares a laugh with Chenle—but not before greeting the idol in front of him properly and with formality.

"Hi! I'm Mark, and you are?"

RENJUN would look Sunghoon up and down, judging his character the moment he set his eyes on him and thinking immediately that he was not good for their beloved Aiko. He would have a very stern expression, his eyebrows scrunched in slight range as he silently communicated with Aiko on who the stranger could be. Even when Aiko explained that they were simply doing a dance, and they shouldn't be overreacting, Renjun kept up the facade, showing a strained and fake smile as he bowed to Sunghoon.

"He's too tall for Aiko."

JENO would awkwardly smile — though it wouldn't be too noticeable as his usual bright eye-smile was still on full display. He would then do the sound he usually makes when he's confused, laughing along with Mark despite not knowing what was going on. He would then lean into Jaemin and his smile would fall dramatically the moment he'd ask who the person beside Aiko was. Much like Renjun, even after explaining, Jeno wouldn't relent so easily, clinging unto Aiko as he kept a strained smile the moment Sunghoon respectfully said his goodbye to them as a group.

"Eung? Who is he?"

HAECHAN would scoff, putting out a strong and intimidating front the moment he sets eyes on the boy, and especially at their controversial position. He would be the first one to directly ask Sunghoon who he was, his glare never disappearing on his face. He still distinctly remembered the promise Aiko made with him (or something he forced her to promise him) — the one about not having a boyfriend until she was 40. He was not going to permit anyone to have any type of relationship with Aiko, especially if it was someone who he thought (he deluded), had a weaker physique than him, reasoning that Sunghoon could never protect Aiko that way.

"You look too weak to carry Aiko in that position."

JAEMIN would keep his introverted and intimidating guise, looking straight into the idol's eyes with a subtle glare before directing that to Aiko, not believing that she would allow anyone to "manhandle" her like that (She told him, later on, he was exaggerating his perception on their dance position). He'd answer Jeno's questions with gritted teeth, never wavering from his position. He would then rapidly fire out comparisons between his own partner and how they were never even doing a dance that required so much skinship, shifting the blame from Sunghoon, to Aiko and even the show itself—he was annoyed by anything and everything.

"Ryujin-ssi and I don't even do those kinds of moves. Tsk, we never should've joined if we weren't partnered up together."

CHENLE would lowkey enjoy how the Dream reacted with the situation, giggling along with Mark when Sunghoon was finally introduced properly. He knew everything was professional, and so he didn't think much about it; that was until Sunghoon called Aiko, "Noona", and suddenly, even Chenle got a little protective. His smile would disappear, and his face would scrunch up—confused and interested in their relationship dynamic. Regardless, he thought that only Jisung and he were allowed to be Aiko's babies, there was no space for another one.

"She's a noona to him too? Absolutely not."

JISUNG would let out a sound of shock, his eyebrows shooting up as he sees a same-age idol in a compromising position with his noona. Much like Chenle, he'd react in a subtly possessive and protective way, but he'd first look at his hyungs and assess how they were going to address the situation. Seeing as nothing was happening, he would approach Aiko first, and even while Sunghoon was still there, he would still wrap his arms around her—never relenting even as Aiko was already slightly elbowing his abdomen. He knew there were a lot of people that liked his noona (in fact, a lot of idols with the same age as him approached him for that exact reason—though his hyungs didn't know any of that), and he thought Sunghoon might be one too.

"Noona...you...stop attracting so many juniors."

Meanwhile, Sunghoon would blank out, not registering the members' glares directed at him, even as he greets goodbye to Aiko and to NCT as a whole. He even had the confidence to loudly promise the Neko-member to treat her to a meal for covering the practicing venue.

"Noona, I'll call you!"

Original contender of getting JiHo’s current room, but gave it up because she has a lot of stuff and spends more time in the dorm than he does

Is such a dad

Not the first person JiHo goes to when she has something on her mind, but she knows she can trust Taeyong with her heavy problems

They used to look super awkward around each other, but now they are the type of friends that can just sit in silence together doing their own thing and it not feel awkward at all

For example, Taeyong once lost a bet during one of their NCT Daily videos and had to clean up at the end. JiHo stayed behind and helped him clean up while talking about how fun the video shoot was. It looked so natural and NCTzens were so happy to see them together like that

Helps her with rapping and is the person JiHo reaches out to when she wants validation with her rapping

Spent a whole night with her in the studio after she had a mental breakdown when she kept messing up and the producer told her to come back the next day

They never talk about it and no one else knows (that’s what they thought but Taeil and Doyoung do know. Of course they respect JiHo’s privacy and never bring it up) but he’s always there for her before or during she records her rap part when he knows she’s nervous or stressed out

They talk in English a lot as well, JiHo actually helps him out with his Korean at times

Knows JiHo isn’t the best reader and while he usually makes fun when the other members mess up when they read, he’ll never make fun or laugh at JiHo

The first and only time he’d done so, he saw how her smile faded and it broke his heart so he never did it again

Instead, he’ll volunteer to read instead of JiHo whenever possible and she appreciates it a lot

Doesn’t believe that JiHo is technically younger than him

Believes in treating everyone equally, so if he didn’t tease or annoy her enough during practice, promotions, or video shoots he’ll annoy her at the dorms

Barges in her room whenever he wants to and after an hour of annoying her or “ruining” her Vlive, he will just sit on her bed and play on her switch or his phone for a few hours

Mark and Xiaojun as the stars, whose life seems perfect. Jaehyun basically played Cha Minho, his character from Dear. M. Some of the reality was woven into the plot. Jungwoo works as a pattern designer. Chenle is a clerk in SM Ent.

- Ten, who was in China during shooting of the MV, was included very accurately. He was in the whistle sequence as well, which was smart, made his part less detached.

- Took me a few times of watching the MV to understand Yuta’s scene. He was cut short, so it didn’t read easily. He picked up a baseball ball that flew over from another court. Connection. He is a solo player and works on his skill in an empty place, but he is not alone. There are other people working towards their dream.

- I don’t have enough knowledge about Korea to understand Jeno’s scene. Is it a place to discard furniture in good enough condition for others to pick it up? I know Japanese llligaly make furniture dumps (it costs money to dispose of large things properly) in forests, but the place in the MV looks clean. If it’s the former, then is it a hint at poor students? Second chance? Or simply a recogniseable landmark for the type of building complex Hendery walks in? (cheap apartments)

- I’d prefer Jaehyun and Doyoung’s lines in the traffic jam scene to be sang by only them (and lower) to have their voices heard well in the middle of the song (Do is more pronounced than Kun, but Jaehyun I can’t distinguish at all, wouldn’t guess it’s him without the MV). Chenle or Xiaojun appear several times and it helps the whole composition. Same with Jaemin as the centre, there is that repetition that balances the video reel. It’s a minor grievance, otherwise the producers did very well. Also notice how Yuta or Hendery own their lines despite their shortness. It’s not about the number of lines, it’s about how memorable they are in the song.

- Taeil as an ancor appearing on the big screen is a masterpiece. His best MV appearence hands down. Why does it feel like NCT is sending Taeil off into the army with giving him the solo role in a chorus song...

- As a rule, I dislike the “cute boys in pastel” concept. Usually it’s done in a rather cringy way. Hormonal teenagers or young adults who should worry about enlistment, finding a job and getting a partner instead play with soft toys and balloons. This cotton candy and bubble gum style is for small 8-10 y.o. kids. It doesn’t look authentical on older idols, so it screams “fake delusion”.

In “Beautiful” pastel and soft sweaters translate as intented: hope, comfort, positivity.

- The colour/lighting filter used in the MV is one of my favourite, and Hendery’s scene with the whistle is 10/10.

- The baseball team had Sungchan and Hendery, who are not a part of “Universe” unit. So it’s “Doyoung and the kids” theme, heh.

- Taeyong has a certain tone to his lower voice that is very reassuring. I think he is the only one in NCT who can deliver lines like that. Even if it is achieved with doubling or filters.

- Renjun said the song is an old one and was a contestant for Tende debut. I can see why. It does sound similar to “Without you”. The positive uplifting tone. The producers did a smart decision though. “Beautiful” sounds more epic with a crowd.

You never expected Chenle to call you in the middle of the night asking you to come give him company at the studio. Earlier, he told you he would be working on songs for the next Dream comeback, the first time he would ever be included in the song-writing process for NCT. You remember asking him if he was nervous, but Chenle just shrugged his shoulders and gave you his confident reassurance.

Now that you walk into the recording studio, you think it might’ve all been an act. You greet the other producers in the room politely, and then your eyes fall on Chenle who sits on one of the red couches against the back wall and plays with his fingers in his lap.

“Chenle, “ You whisper to him, trying not to distract the producers, “What’s wrong?” He doesn’t answer, only staring down at his hands. The producers announce they’ll be taking a break and leave the room; you’re thankful because maybe Chenle might open up now that you’re the only two in the room.

He stands, still ignoring you, and walks to the spinny chair that is at the desk with the computer and recording equipment on it. You scoff at his quietness.

“Chenle, you asked me to come here and now you’re not talking to me? I’m gonna leave.” You turn around head back to the door.

“No. Stay with me.” Chenle’s words make you turn back around, his appealing gaze too convincing to walk out the door. Or maybe you’re just too whipped for him. “C’mere, you can sit in my lap until I’m done working.”

The invitation is too good to pass up, so you make your way back to him; he pulls you all the way to him with a gentle grasp on your wrist and helps sit you down comfortably on his thigh.

“Okay, but you have to tell me what’s wrong.” Chenle turns to the computer, messing around with something on the display and once again ignoring you. You take his earlobe between two fingers and softly pull on it. Still no response. With a determined finger, you poke his cheeks. No response. You shower him with pokes, in his collarbones and his chest, around his ribs and sides. “I’m not going to stop poking you until you give me some attention.”

And attention he gives. Chenle turns his whole body to face you, wrapping himself around your middle to cut off your attack, his sparkling eyes almost covered by his black leather bucket hat as he looks at you in defeat.

“Fine.” He leans forward and rests his forehead on your collarbones. You melt at his simple affection, relaxing into him and resting your cheek on the top of his head. “Are you wearing my shirt?” He whispers, but he already knows the answer.

“Yeah, you left it at my house the last time you were over.” You whisper back, and he squeezes you in his hold, pulling you closer to him on his lap.

“Never take it off. You’re only allowed to wear this for the rest of your life.” He nuzzles into your neck further.

“That’s very nice, but no, I’m not doing that.” You laugh at him, but something in the back of your mind unsettles you. He’s usually not this touchy in a public space, even if there’s no one else in the room. He’s also not this quiet around you, and it makes you wonder if you did something wrong or if something happened that put him in a funky mood.

“Chenle…” Just by calling his name, he knows you’re serious now. “Is everything okay? You’re not acting like yourself.” The studio is silent while you wait for Chenle’s reply, your light fingers now moving up and down his side as you try to coax the answer out of him. You use your other hand to reach up and tug Chenle’s hat off of his head, tossing it on the desk. You lean against his hair and give the strands a kiss; his heart mellows out at the peacefulness of the room and of just existing in your arms.

“I think I’m in love with you and I’m terrified.” Chenle can hear your heartbeat increase from his position against your chest, and it makes his own thud uncontrollably.

“So… Nothing’s wrong with recording?” Chenle slowly shakes his head against you. “And nothing is wrong with us?” He shakes his head again. You gather your courage and tug at the strands of hair behind his head to lift his face out of your chest. His gaze connects with yours, nervousness and a bit of anxiety in them from his confession.

“I asked you to come here to give me company, and you did. Without even a second thought.” He whispered hoarsely, his feelings causing his voice to give out. “You always support me unconditionally, and I don’t think I’ve ever properly thanked you for that. You never tried to change me, and yet I think I’m a better person because of you. I’m not sure why I just realized it when you walked through that door a few minutes ago, but I did.”

“Why are you terrified?” You ask, and his hand on your lower back rubs gentle circles while he thinks of his next words.

“Because it’s been at least five minutes and you haven’t said it back.” He laughs awkwardly, “And because I felt like I just rushed it. We haven’t been dating that long, and it’s scary to feel this way after such a short time.” He explains, his voice losing confidence and wavering a bit as you still have not said anything in return at his confession.

You cup his soft cheeks, redirecting his attention back to you, and slowly lean in. Kissing Chenle has to be one of your favorite activities; he somehow always knows how fast you want to go and he moves with you fluidly, as if he’s dancing with you. You feel charmed by just being pressed against him, his strong hands keeping you balanced. Your grip on the hair on the back of his head proves as an advantage when you tilt him back to expose more of his skin. You kiss down his jaw and his neck, your other hands wandering under his shirt and fluttering over his side. Chenle shuts his eyes and lets out a low moan at your actions. Before your kissing can go any further, you lean in, your lips mumbling against his ear.

“I love you.” Chenle’s heart springs into quick thumping at your sudden words. “I do love you,” You say with more conviction, “And I’m not terrified… Because I know you’ll never hurt me on purpose.”

Chenle opens his eyes and tilts his head to you, your noses touching from the close proximity and your deep breaths mingling in the small space between you. He doesn’t say anything back, only leaning in again and pressing your lips against his. Although he has kissed your lips dozens of times, the first time after confessing these strong feelings makes the action seem different, adding more meaning and showing more feeling.

Eventually, you and Chenle part and the producers return to the room from their break. You’re allowed to sit on the couch in the studio and listen to Chenle work with new vigour and energy. Every once in a while, his eyes flicker to you and you share a knowing gaze:

“I love you and you love me. We’re drowning in it, but we’re drowning together, so there’s no need to be afraid.”

Song of the Week

Lots of idol stuff this week, so let’s get into.

Honorable Mentions:

The song that makes me the most confused this week goes to Love Me Once Again. It is 90s boy group ballad coming out in the year 2021 of our lord, fully in English on a Korean music YouTube channel. Starring Yun Min Soo, and BOYS II MEN?!?!?!! I’m thoroughly confused, and also it is a 90s power ballad, which sounds so like the 90s that it makes me think it is just a song I missed, and not a new track.

Rain Song has the traditional Epik High beat, and a dreamy feel like some of their more somber work previously. I like the chorus with Colde, but not the verse quite as much, no matter how much I love Tablo. I’m impressed how consistent Epik High has been for years (over a decade?), but I do sometimes get tired of so many songs with such a similar feel. Also, I can’t take Tukutz playing piano seriously. I’ve seen too many interviews where he has maybe half a braincell, so seeing him be serious is hard.

DPR Live may not always be my style, but damn if DPR on the whole doesn’t have some of the best MVs in Korea by a long shot. Every single one has a distinctive style that is kept throughout. Yellow Cab is psychedelic filters over bright colors in just slightly strange sets. And when the color is pulled, it is for a reason. If you haven’t seen a DPR video before, this is a decent place to start, and while not my style, the track is good as well.

Idk if Break Ice is an idol track or not, because technically Second Wife Kim DaBi is the lead on it, but ITZY features heavily. I think the start of the chorus is interesting, and the rest didn’t keep my attention.

Idol Roundup:

- Chase by Dongkiz: This is a little too cute for me, but the bass-y synth chorus is pretty cool

- Hello Future by NCT Dream: I really like the chorus, but the rest feels like filler to get between the choruses, and the video confuses me.

- Xtra by AleXa: She still isn’t my thing I think. BM is just there though, which is a nice bonus

- 13IVI by BM: I want to like this more than I do. Look at him go tho.

- Free Pass by DRIPPIN: Very cute, and not a whole lot else

- Veronica by ONEWE: Another sweet summer track, only this time with band vibes

- Vamos by OMEGA X: Feels kind of ATEEZ-ish, but not quite as pushed conceptually.

- Moonlight by BDC: Very vibey if that is a style you like. I don’t mind the chorus, which is a bit lusher, but the rest is not for me

- Tesseract by CIX: IDK why there is a video for the 1:28 of this track (nevermind, its on another site that I’m not going to search for)

- Pool Party by Brave Girls: Their voices are incredibly over processed in this. I know everyone in kpop is autotuned, but usually I can ignore it

So, I may be a little bit biased for this whole track, because it is produced by Bang Yongguk, who I love very much, but Damage is surprisingly decent? Just B is definitely a debut group, and you can tell in the video. The track though has some really nice moments. The start of the hook is really cool, and the delayed drop in the chorus adds a cool half beat of expectations. I also really like the silence or near silence spliced in throughout the track. It is a more interesting debut than a lot I have seen this year.

I hope the chorus of PTT grows on me, because the rest of LOONA’s newest track has me hooked. I love the percussion heavy instrumentation, and letting their voices hold nearly all of the melody, I know that the super hard hitting chorus is the new thing (tracks like Next Level come to mind), but I have yet to really like one. They definitely get stuck in your head, but I’ve never had one last longer than that. Everything else though it pretty damn great, and I’ll give the chorus a pass for all of the rest.

I love seeing really experienced groups pull off tracks that younger groups could never touch, because the feel is just way way too mature. You aren’t going to catch a freshly debuted group with a song like Make (or Make It? I’m not sure what the English title actually is). You need experience to be casually sexy and have it not come off as insincere, which 2PM has in spades. I like the jazzy brass mixed in. I like the chorus and hook. I like Taecyeon getting to sing a deep part. My biggest problem is that a group with 3 guys who have acted quite a bit can’t seem to act their way out of a paper bag the whole video. They stare at the female lead with negative energy or interest, and she does the same back. I guess props to her professionalism for standing so close to so much 2PM and surviving, but damn. If you want a way better video for it, watch the relay dance from M2, it is way more fun.

unnatural - wjsn | recommended songs: all of them (especially unnatural, supermoon, and yalla) except for rewind | skips: just rewind bc ballad /// im not sure what style to call this album but they really made such a smash, its crazy that it came out so early in the year and no gg is touching it (album wise). literally the only complaints i have are the obligatory ballad (that they always do bc they can all sing lmfao), the album cover/title (dont love the cover design and i dont love when the album name is the tt name, except in certain circumstances (a full album (especially where the title isnt necessarily from the title track) like montero) or when it's a single album (the inverse of this being rsq's prequel which couldve just been called colorfull since that was the only damn song 😐)). i also was disappointed with the outfits for last dance but that's peripheral.

ugly beauty, jolin tsai - discovered this year, came out in 2018. i just really like jolin tsai idk. i had only heard that album w play and i’m not yours, both are iconic but the production quality sounds...low? like its older but ik they’re not *that* old. either way, ugly beauty does everything i wanted it to - dramatic, vocals, rapping, boa vibes...jolin tsai is a queen what can i say

also, there are of course a ton of singles that i love as well, this is albums only though lmfao. i have no idea if i could even attempt to organize the singles lol

📝 haechan journal

🌿 Entry No. 2: Ramble on Haechan's Solo Activities Let me just rant because I'm so disappointed about how SM's managing Haechan. It's so unfair. I don't wanna feel sad the whole day so let me write.

I don't even know where to start. I don't want to seem ungrateful because 2022 is such a busy year for Haechan, and it's a really great year for his growth as an individual artist, but the way SM is managing him is just downright frustrating.

I think we can all agree that Haechan is a talented person. He sings, he dances, he raps, he creates his own music, and he can choreograph, among others. Talent-wise, he's up there among the most deserving Neos for a solo. Not even a solo album, just a solo activity he can add to his resume or whatever. Adding the amount of work they exert for the NCT brand to the criteria, you narrow down that list of Neos but Haechan remains, and he's on top.

This year, we got his solo activity which is also his first OST, Good Person (2022). We got his first solo magazine cover for star1's July 2022 issue. He didn't get to perform a solo stage for NCT 127's The Link because he had little time to prepare, but we had Love Sign (plus the dance break he choreographed) and NYCT. This is great. We got a lot from him and he has new things that he can call his own.

But if you look at it within the context that Haechan debuted in 2016 and for 6 years, he had nothing solely to his name, this is just the bare minimum. This, and the fact that he exerts thrice as much time and effort into the NCT brand, only to get crumbs of what others get.

Then you see new people coming in and new opportunities for them, and here's an original member from 2016, one of the backbones of the brand, and you can count on one finger the opportunities that SM let him have. I cannot help but feel envious because I know he deserves more than what he's getting.

This came to mind again because during a fansign yesterday, he was asked about the song cover he promised months ago. I'm not sure if he's still pertaining to the song cover, but he said that he has something recorded. Unfortunately, they couldn't shoot the MV for it yet because they lack time.

For so long, sunflowers have been ridiculed for asking solo activities for Haechan. Nonfans say that perhaps he just doesn't want solo activities, he doesn't have offers, or he's too busy for it.

First and foremost, it's Haechan's dream to be a singer-songwriter. I believe there are two types of idols in Kpop: (1) those who are Kpop idols because they genuinely want to sing and dance, hence, traversing the soloist path in the future, and (2) those who are Kpop idols by name, just gaining momentum, until they can jump to another field in the entertainment industry.

Without a doubt, Haechan is the first one. Fans know this. He's mentioned it on multiple occasions. It's also the reason why he released Love Sign and NYCT. He's also mentioned (on multiple occasions again) that he wants to release a solo album AND HE SHOULD.

It's bullshit to say that he doesn't want solo activities when he talks proudly about Good Person, about Love Sign and NYCT, even about the cover.

Second, I can't fathom the audacity of people, especially nonfans, who claim that he has no offers. Music producers want to work with him. Unconfirmed, but he was being scouted for variety shows but SM declined it. He's the emcee they usually go to for NCT content yet he didn't emcee for any music shows, aside from those special shows where he was invited as a special MC.

The thing that I'm most angry about was his supposed Rolling Stone Korea interview that sunflowers alone won for him. Fans spent money to secure that interview because it's a magazine focused on the music industry, and figured that it would be a great avenue for him to talk about his music. But alas, the magazine, the company in-charge of the poll, and SM did not push through with it.

Lastly, I think it shouldn't be on him if we're talking about the lack of time for solo schedules.

Sfs understand that since he's in three active units, his schedule is much tighter than the rest. Sadly, while he's spending time and effort for brand comebacks and promotions, the members from the units that are currently not promoting have time to do career-related stuff that they want. It may be as simple as song covers, random dance covers, etc.

We understand this, even before stanning Haechan. It's just frustrating that when SM can lessen their workload, especially cos Haechan has been continuously working since 2019, they still choose to pack his schedules to the brink.

Full album comebacks and repackage album promotions, on top of concerts and world tours happening within the same timeline. It's insane how SM cares so little about Haechan's health and well-being. The way he is working is unethical.

Sure, he loves his work. Haechan is just happy to sing and dance, to perform in front of a crowd. But for the same crowd to see him grimacing in pain and squeezing parts of his body that hurt is heart-wrenching.

[SM, there is no shame in having one of Haechan's units come back in the first quarter, the other during the third or last. Give the middle of the year to non-Haechan units so he can rest. The world tours can be evenly spaced out. In fact, the fans will understand a mini album release specially in the midst of two world tours.]

I don't blame the other Neos for having opportunities that Haechan does not have. I am just frustrated that because SM cannot manage their groups efficiently, someone has to sacrifice the formative years of their career working their bones off.

He's approaching his 7th year in the industry. Since he wants to become a singer-songwriter, it is just right that he starts building the foundations of his career as early as now, but because SM is shit at management, he has to tire himself physically and mentally instead.

What's sadder is that I don't think he knows we want his solo as much as he does. And that's why we keep reminding him!!!

I'm speechless whenever he talks and it seems like he doesn't know how many people are waiting for him and how many of us are ready to support him the moment he as much as mumbles the word "solo",

A solo stan who is thinking about checking other groups out?

There is nothing wrong with being a solo stan (as in only liking 1 group) as long as you are kind and courteous to other groups.

Also this post might not be for you.

But if you are a solo stan (usually starting with BTS) or just in need of finding new groups and thinking about spreading your wings here are some suggestions. 🙂

When I first got into kpop way back in the 2010 years I had no clue what I had stumbled on and I only liked 2 groups max for the longest time because I didnt know about any other groups. Since then I’ve come to love so many groups that I wish I knew about sooner.

Now mind you. I am primarily a boy group stan so there are not a lot of girl groups on her so please forgive me. -*edit I’ve decided to do a part 2 of just girl groups so stay tuned

This is also under the impression you already know BTS and their brother group TXT.

-Many fans detest this concept and wish SM to make them a fixed unit but that doens’t mean you can’t love OT6 or OT7 at the moment.

-Former Member E’Dawn was basically kicked out of Cube and Pentagon after revealing he was dating label mate HyunA. Fans are still hopeful for an OT10 reunion.

-Their songs are so addicting and on top of that are actual sweethearts.

-Only want to make people smile and feel loved through their music.

-Gaining popularity in the Western regions.

-In October of 2019, member Wonho (the orange hair in the gif) left the group due to rumors and lies being spread about him. He didn’t want to hurt Monsta X’s reputation so he left the group but fans have strongly opposed this, fighting for starship to help clear his name and have him return. The protest continues on even after almost a month.

(Trust me, if you knew this group and Wonho, you would understand why fans are opposing this.)

When did you post your first piece?

I posted something way back in September 2019 but then went on a long 9 month hiatus and came back on June 3rd 2020!

Do you write fluff/angst/crack/general/smut, combo, etc? Why?

I write anything except smut and certain themes like disorders or abuse because I’m not too comfortable writing it yet and I don’t want to write it wrong and potentially anger or offend people.

Do you write OCs, X Readers, Ships...etc?

I write x readers!

Why did you start writing on Tumblr?

I started writing because I’ve always loved to write and have been doing so since I was little. I got introduced to the writing community on tumblr when I was just aimlessly surfing one day and I remember reading the ‘To All The Boys I Loved Before’ series written by @theboyz-engup and was just so inspired that I made my own The Boyz blog to begin writing. I got into NCT sometime during my hiatus so when I came back from it, I started to write for NCT too.

What inspires you to write?

The feedback most definitely, shows and books I’ve read and watched too but mostly feedback.

What genres/AUs do you enjoy writing the most?

I like writing angst although most of my works tend to be more fluffy...

What do you hope your readers take away from your work?

Ah, my works are generally pretty simple but I guess I’d want them to just get immersed in the story like how I was as I was writing it!

What do you do when you hit a rough spot creatively?

I just watch Netflix or browse through Youtube, sometimes watching videos other times listening to music to find inspo.

What is your favorite work and why? Your most successful?

My favourite (published) work so far would probably be ‘Wedding bells’ on my tbz account and my Doyoung timestamp at 11:11am on my nct account! My most successful generally would be a Sunwoo timestamp at 11:22pm.

Who is your favorite person to write about?

For NCT + WayV, I’d have to say Doyoung. For The Boyz, I would say maybe Jacob?

Do you think there’s a difference between writing fanfiction vs. completely original prose?

Yeah, I guess so. I think when we write fanfiction, we already have an idea of what sort of personality our idols have and we keep that in mind when we write for them but for completely original prose, you create your own characters so in a way, you have to think a little bit deeper for how you want your OC to act or talk.

What do you think makes a good story?

Sweet and simple description rather than ones that are overly detailed? A story with good flow is good!

What is your writing process like?

Hm, I usually start off with choosing a song on youtube to listen to as I write or I’d have a movie or show playing in the background ( usually it’s Friends these days ) then I’d start writing. I tend to write only at night or have more motivation at night, I’m not too sure why either.

Would you ever repurpose a fic into a completely original story?

Sure, why not? It’d be interesting but also a little difficult to start to imagine a completely original character in the story since I’d be very used to thinking of the idol who was previously a character in the story.

What tropes do you love, and what tropes can’t you stand?

I love the enemies to lovers trope! I think it’s really interesting because you start off hating each other and it’s cool to see how that gradually progresses to love. I don’t have a lot of tropes I hate but I’ve never really been able to write about werewolves or vampires? It’s just not my thing at all.

How much would you say audience feedback/engagement means to you?

Oh, it means everything to me! Sometimes when I’m down or unmotivated, I always go back to checking out reblogs or kind things people have said about my works and I’d feel like writing again. It’s like feeling rejuvenated and gaining inspiration to continue with my wips.

What has been one of the biggest factors of your success (of any size)?

I won’t consider myself very successful ^^” although I must say that I’m growing faster than I expected. I think it’s probably because I do update consistently but I’m not sure if that’s going to change once I start school.

Sure, it can be! I think art is sometimes able to tell stories that can’t be told verbally. It moves people in a way and I think it can be used to truly express the artist’s message to their audience.

Do you ever feel there are times when you’re writing for others, rather than yourself?

Honestly, sometimes when I’m unmotivated but mostly no. I love whatever I’m writing when I’m writing it for the most part.

Do you ever feel like people have misunderstood you or your writing at times?

No? At least not that I know of.

Do your offline friends/loved ones know you write for Tumblr?

They do but they don’t know my URL.

What is one thing you wish you could tell your followers?

Thank you so much for believing in me and appreciating my work! I am grateful for every single one of you guys and you are all my motivation to keep writing and produce better written works. Without you all, writing is somewhat duller and hearing that you guys like the work I put out means the world to me. I love you guys!!

Do you have any advice for aspiring writers who might be too scared to put themselves out there?

Don’t be! We all start somewhere and taking that first step may be a little daunting at first but I promise that what follows is going to be magical. You’re going to be able to gain a lot of inspiration and friends, you are going to be able to greatly improve your writing but what’s best is that you’ll feel like you are now part of a writing family on tumblr! Do not be afraid of showcasing your works because there is always bound to be an audience for it and even if your writing style doesn’t suit someone, there’s definitely another group of readers who will love every single piece of work you publish ^^

Are there any times when you regret joining Tumblr?

Nope! I hope I never do.

Do you have any mutuals who have been particularly formative/supportive in your Tumblr journey?

YES and I love every single one of them. Thank you to @jenocakes @atbzkingdom @chaoticdeobi @hae-sicheng @moondustaeil @ihearttbz @badwithten @glossyjaems @lovely-kpop-writer @jopping-to-my-kpop! There are a few more but these are just the ones that pop up in my mind first.
