Part Two
“We won.” The words left Iwaizumi’s mouth. It was the second time he said it that week. Another win for Seijoh, leaving the other team completely defenseless. It was another easy win for them.
Another win, yet another loss in his book.
He promised himself that he’d confess to you after the game. Everyday, the words repeat in his head like a mantra. Everytime he sees you, he waits for the words to leave his mouth, but they don’t. They never do.
He hates himself for it. He wished that he could just grow up and say it. Iwaizumi knew there wasn’t much time before you both graduated, and you both knew that you’d separate after.
He wanted nothing more than to cherish this time with you.
He watched as your usual bright smile stretched across your face, eyes dancing and bleeding with pride. God, he never got tired of seeing that.
“I knew you could.” It was something he heard many times before, but he didn’t have a problem with it. No. He loved it. Loved that he had your support.
There were tons of people that supported him. He was in a powerhouse school so it wasn’t odd that there were lines of people cheering his name. Yet, he only heard you. Everytime you’d scream his name, your voice would echo in his head, telling himself to play even harder to guarantee the win that day.
He remembered you wearing his jersey once. Technically, it was ‘wear your favorite player’s jersey’ at Aoba Johsai. Mostly, it was Oikawa’s jersey that was spread throughout the school. Iwaizumi truly didn’t care that he didn’t see anyone wearing his, until he saw you.
There you were standing in the crowd alongside your two friends dressed in his jersey. He remembered how fast the heat crept up his neck, blooming across his face without warning. How rapid his heart was racing, causing him to stop in place and stare at you with a tilted head. He was shocked.
He remembered how Oikawa wrapped his shoulder around him with a crooked grin. They said nothing but from his posture Iwaizumi knew Oikawa was teasing him. Though, he didn’t care in that moment. He was too happy. Happy that you were there for him. Happy you even wore his jersey.
He remembered how Oikawa faked him into going on a date with you. Well, more of a study session. All of the third years made plans to study at the library, but it was only you and him that came. While you only saw this as ditching, Iwaizumi knew that they did this so he could confess.
He was such a blushy mess being alone and close to you. Especially when you asked for help on a specific problem, his hand lightly brushed against yours as he grabbed the pencil from you, his hand immediately recoiling back as he stuttered for words. You looked up at him and grinned muttering sorry. He didn’t know why you said it, but he nodded. That day he didn’t confess either.
He remembered finding you between two vending machines, crouched down and head into your knees. Your body was shaking as choked sobs parted your lips. Immediately, he kneeled down and asked you what was wrong but you didn’t say anything. You didn’t even look up at him. Iwaizumi was unsure of what to do since he’s never been in a situation like this before. Besides, it was you. You were headstrong, it was strange to see you break down in school.
He opened his mouth to say something, but the feeling of two arms wrapping around his stomach and a head pressing into the crook of his neck ceased him from doing so. You cried into his neck, holding him tightly like he would slip away from your grasp. He thought it was selfish to be enjoying her touch like this, but only pure bliss filled his heart.
Turns out, your grades were slipping and it wasn’t guaranteed you were going to make it into university.
He remembered the wide smile that spread across your face when you aced a test that he helped you study. You took no time to engulf him into another tight hug. Iwaizumi stiffened at your touch. Unlike last time, your arms were around his neck. Your hand placed slightly below his nape. Hesitantly but surely, he placed his fit arms on your waist. For a moment he could’ve swore that you moved in closer, but he wasn’t so sure since he was focusing on not breaking down right there and then.
He remembered the first time he went inside your home. You were down with a fever, and your parents were at work. He took the day off to aid you, hoping for a quick recovery to get back at school. Your room was nothing like he expected. It was nice, and had a sweet scent.
You were embarrassed for having him see you so sick like, but he didn’t mind. You asked him how could he not be disgusted by your looks, he responded by saying you looked exactly like he always saw you. Disgusting, is what you replied with jokingly. Iwaizumi laughed with you, his heart aching with the familiar feeling he’s experienced before. More than ever, he wanted to tell you. But he just couldn’t.
He remembered the train ride home you two took that one day, not walking since it was pouring. Iwaizumi stood, holding onto the bar to keep himself balanced while you sat. You insisted for him to sit down with you since it was still a long way to go till you both got off, but he declined. He didn’t want to invade your privacy. The seat was mildly close to yours, it was definite that he’d accidentally touch you in a matter of time. He didn’t want to go through that embarrassment, nor the apologies.
After minutes of pestering, he finally sat down beside you, his legs relishing the relief he felt from standing all day. That day he learned more and more about you: your favorite animal, favorite food, favorite place, your plans after highschool, he learned it all. From the corner of his eye he noticed your head drooping, eyelids falling. In the nick of time, he caught your head from toppling over. Unsure of what to do with it, Iwaizumi did the most selfish thing he could— He placed it onto his shoulder.
Moments after, your hand found it’s way onto his. So much for ‘invading privacy’.
Finally, he remembered the solace in his heart when he heard you reject the rumors about you and Oikawa dating. You two were growing closer, leaving Iwaizumi as a grumpy, insecure mess. The practices were more tense than they usually were, all of the 1st and 2nd years confused as to who shifted the mood. The 3rd hears already knew, and they were sure why. The rumors had been going around for about a week so it wasn’t surprising that they heard of it.
Iwaizumi didn’t want to believe it, but Oikawa was the golden boy at the school, everyone fell for him. And Iwaizumi was just him. He knew there wasn’t much of a competition, he knew that you were going to pick him, and that’s why it hurt so much. He cried almost every night, refusing to speak to anyone at school or home. He also avoided you, making sure to take the longer routes to his classes and staying ten minutes after school just so you’d miss him and walk home by yourself.
But one day, there you were, waiting for him at the gates. You demanded for him to tell you why he was avoiding you, but he wouldn’t share. You kept hassling him hoping for something to slip out, and it did. In the most snarkiest way he replied with, “Why are you bothering me? Shouldn’t you be with your boyfriend?” He pronounced boyfriend in the most mocking way, that it made you sneer. You laughed in his face, causing his heart to break even more. Iwaizumi turned around aiming to get as far away from you as he could, but you grabbed onto his hand before he could take a step. You instantly shot down his assumption, claiming that it was only a rumor, that you and Oikawa were friends and nothing more.
That day Iwaizumi felt like an idiot. He should’ve asked instead of recklessly jumping to conclusions and leaving you in the dust. It was unfair. Mentally, he cursed at himself for being so inconsiderate towards you. Only one thought entered his mind for the rest of the day: I should just confess already.
And here you are, shining your toothy smile at him, eyes ablaze with exhilaration nearly lighting the night sky itself. You were just so alluring. There was never a day where his heart stopped beating for you, where that same crimson blush stopped occuring, where he would try to find open spots in his day to spend with you. The feeling inside of him was overwhelming, the feeling coursed through his veins like it was his blood, like a drug he couldn’t live without. He wanted you. He needed you.
And like he was starved, his mouth opened before he could process anything.
“I love you.”

what it is
summary: Oikawa x Reader. he makes it out of the friendzone (with some help)
word count: 1.3k
cw: nothing, oikawa in glasses
a/n: i wrote this in under an hour while heavily caffeinated?;!;!4& brain melting
“You’re late,” you say with a grin. Oikawa Tooru pouts at you, his team jacket folded over his arms. He’s already changed out of uniform, you notice; must have exchanged it for a white t-shirt and slacks in the locker room.
“I was swarmed,” he claims as the two of you start to walk together. You roll your eyes and don’t even bother making a jab about his popularity with the girls (and people of all genders, really). At this point, you’ve accepted that deranged fans come with the territory of being friends with the volleyball team captain.
You met Oikawa on the first day of your first year at Aoba Johsai and had been friends ever since. Even though you had no interest in the sport at first, his love for volleyball was infectious. He had even roped you into being the team’s manager. You still weren’t sure how he had pulled that off, but you didn’t mind too much—you’d grown to love the team and the sport too, in your own way.
Despite your closeness, you’d never really understood why he had a fan club, especially as a teenage school athlete. You expected his popularity to grow when (not if) he went professional, but the idea of swooning over some guy you had pre-calculus classes with was totally foreign to you. It was a running joke among your friends that you were immune to Oikawa’s looks and charming magnetism (and, honestly, to all four of the team’s upperclassmen. You could acknowledge how objectively attractive they all were even though none of them seemed to fit your niche).
Sometimes, you caught Oikawa making strange expressions while your friends teased you about not liking him. It felt like you were the only one who noticed these kinds of things, sometimes. You really liked being able to read him so easily: both of you had saved each other under the contact name “Platonic Soulmate” in your phones.
You chalked up the weird faces to your friend’s first-rate ego, and even though you knew that the notion of one person not being desperately in love with him wouldn’t scratch the surface of his self-esteem, you always found yourself taking his hand surreptitiously or leaning your head on his shoulder when you did see him looking mopey. He always perked up, after that, and all would be sunshine again.
Today, everyone else had bailed on you when you suggested a joint ice-cream-and-study-date before next week’s exams. Iwaizumi had claimed that Oikawa was too loud and always distracted him, so he couldn’t seriously try to study together. Matsukawa had to babysit and refused to bring the brats, as he affectionately called his siblings, to get sweets. Hanamaki had just quirked his eyebrows at you and said, “I don’t feel like third wheeling. Thanks, but no thanks.”
You hadn’t really understood what he meant, but you hadn’t questioned it.
Oikawa had almost begged off to do some solo practice, too, but you’d made a fuss about nearing the end of your high school experience and worrying that you would fall out of touch when volleyball became his whole life (even moreso than it was now!), and he’d caved with an overdramatic sigh and a soft look that told you he wasn’t all that mad about your guilt-tripping.
You’re broken from your thoughts when you reach the ice-cream shop, Oikawa jabbering in your ear about some drama you can’t keep up with.
“And then she told me—ah, I can’t read the menu. You know, they were late refilling my contact prescription this month, so I’ve been carrying around my glasses, I hate it. So unflattering.”
You worry your lip as you stare at the flavor chart, barely listening to him talk.
“I’m sure it’s,” you start, turning to him as he slides the case out of his pocket and puts the frames on his face in a smooth motion. “Um.”
The glasses are not unflattering, you think dumbly, staring at him, your sentence hanging unfinished. The glasses perch on his nose perfectly, making you appreciate, for the first time, the shape of his nose and his cheekbones. Had they always been that sharp? And since when had his eyes been so pretty, reflecting the sunlight in so many shades, framed with long eyelashes that would have made you jealous if you weren’t so—
You reach out and lift the glasses off his face slowly, hoping that the old, familiar features that you’d never felt anything but friendship-friendly feelings towards would return. You can still see it, though: the divot of his Cupid’s bow is appealing, now, his smooth skin glowing to you, his surprised expression fucking adorable. You drop the frames back onto his nose.
Very abruptly, whatever immunity you once had to Oikawa’s looks is demolished in one fell swoop.
“I have to go have a midlife crisis,” you say decisively, and march out of the shop.
“Hey! What—where are you going? You’re not even middle-aged?” Oikawa calls after you, and you try steadfastly to ignore him, but every sense seems to have been awakened to your friend. Your face flushes, and you start walking faster, nearing the pace of a jog even though your limbs are stiff.
You finally pull over in a quieter, slightly more secluded spot between two buildings. You lean against the wall, closing your eyes, trying to remind yourself to take deep breaths.
“Are you okay?” Oikawa says, and you curse his long, athlete legs for having followed you so swiftly. “What’s wrong?”
You open your eyes. He’s still wearing the fucking glasses. Rest in peace, you think to yourself, surely my heart is going to give up soon, at the rate it’s going. Your lips part, but you can’t seem to get the words out. His worried gaze studies you until he finds something—exactly whatever you didn’t want him to see. A slow smile unfurls over his face, and you narrow your eyes. Ugh, how dare his smugness be attractive too, now?
“I should wear the glasses more often, huh?” He says, and you shake your head no frantically.
“Please don’t,” you say. “It’s, like, it doesn’t even matter anymore, anyway, I can’t unsee it now.”
“Unsee what?” He cocks his head, and he’s getting closer, and there’s nowhere to back away from him because you’re up against a wall—
“You’re hot!” You wail. “I saw it and I’m never gonna stop thinking it now, it doesn’t even matter what you wear, I’m doomed! This is the worst thing ever, ‘Kawa, how’m I supposed to go on… I can’t be your friend and a part of your fan club. I don’t think I can even be a part of your fan club ‘cause I don’t just think you’re hot, I think I have a crush on you—oh, my God, I have a c—”
Your increasingly frantic rambling is cut off by Oikawa sealing his lips to yours. The kiss is quick and sweet, and when he pulls away he still looks so, so handsome, and so concerned.
“Please breathe,” he says, and you nod, gaping at him in shock. “I like you too, okay? Please stop having a crisis.
“Okay,” you exhale, bracing your hands on his shoulders. “Okay. I’m still freaking out, though. I think the only way to stop it is to keep kissing me.”
Oikawa heaves a big, overdramatic sigh, and leans in, his glasses bumping your face; giving in to you, just like he always does.

- you signed up because iwaizumi hajime is on the team you needed some team building experience
- and the members were kind to you, of course!!
- maybe maddog didn't like you very much.
- you don't know why, but it's okay.
- you'll grow on him one day!!
- sadly, that day is just not today. 😔
- oikawa thought you were a fan of his
- which is not true
- like.
- at all.
- if anything, you were more of a fan of iwaizumi, but moving on
- word got out that you were their manager, and you SWEAR that oikawa's fangirls are plotting something.
- oikawa treated you the same as he does with every other girl, maybe the occasional flirty statement here & there
- but like
- NO.
- YOU DIDN'T WANT THIS!!!!!
- yahaba tried HIS shot on flirting with you using the good ol' toss-and-run, aka the same thing he tried to do with yachi
- you quickly shut him down by running away, absolutely mortified by the expression on his face.
- NO BC SERIOUSLY WHAT IS THIS
Tumblr media
- bro's rizz came right outta aot 😭😭😭
- just avoid him like the plague, and you'll be fine
- kunimi is one of the more calmer boys, so you /may/ have unintentionally favored him
- like, you'd refill his water bottle first, you'd fetch his towel first, etc.
- kindaichi gets the job done, but he tends to get lost in his own thoughts
- matsukawa and hanamakki are pretty chill as well,, a joke about oikawa every now and then makes you laugh
- and iwaizumi
- wow, where do you even start
- wou don't know WHY oikawa is the one with a bunch of fans, when his hunk of a best friend is right there
- but it's okay. less competition, am i right lass.
- you do not hide your liking towards iwaizumi.
- "iwaizumi is so cool!" you say with hearts, visibly forming on your eyes
- "are you aware that you're talking to yourself?" kunimi asks with a stoic face
- "very aware."
- iwaizumi messes up his spikes every now and then because he feels you watching him
- YOU'RE JUST. THAT. PRETTY. 😭😭
- he gets all shy whenever you hand him his things because he can see flowers and sparkles all around your face
- "..thanks, y/n."
- "you're welcome, iwa!"
- PARDON??
- WHAT DID YOU JUST CALL HIM.
- "o- oh—! sorry for calling you that. i heard oikawa say it, and well.." you sheepishly apologized. you truly didn't mean it. it completely flew over your head that this was just your first day as their manager.
- "no, it's okay. it was cute." iwaizumi puts a halt to his step.
- ok
- wgat ☺️
- so here you two are, a blushing mess, while the third years watch
- "i bet the entire team some ramen that iwaizumi is the first to get married between him and oikawa." hanamaki says.
- "deal." matsukawa accepts
- "you two are so annoying..!" oikawa cries out
- maybe maddog will grow more accustomed to your presence if you'll be iwaizumi's future wife :p

'Traitor'
In where you're Oikawa's little sister...and the captain of the volleyball team in Shiratorizawa High
So first, Oikawa was pissed when you decided to joined Shiratorizawa
A total drama queen, claiming that you betrayed him and his older brother Ego and whatever dramatic excuse he could find
But after the initial shock, a sense of proudness took over him…much to his dismay
Look, he hated Shiratorizawa, but he knew that they were good
So that you were able to join an important school because of your volleyball talent was something to praise…even if it low-key hurt his pride
He wanted you to join Aoba Johsai
Now, despite everything, he always went to cheer you on
It didn’t matter where it was the Nationals, if you were going, he was to
So when in your second year -and his third year- you became the captain of the girls team, he was excited.
So excited, he decided to take you out to have dinner at your favorite restaurant, after all his little sister was following his steps
It was Friday, so you cut your practice a little shorter to go to Aoba Johsai and wait for him
Once in the school, you went directly to the gym, finding Iwaizumi on the way
He knew you, being the longest and best friend of Oikawa he was bound to meet you at some point, so you to always kept contact
“hey, captain too, huh? Proud of you, kiddo. Rub it in Shittykawa face” he says ruffling your hair “Let me present you the team, i don’t remember if Shittykawa has tell them he has a little sister”
Oikawa, in fact, didn’t tell them
Once you entered with Iwaizumi you hear people calling his name, from the looks of it, the other third years
One with Black hair and one with brown hair, who smirk and tease Iwaizumi after noticing you, the unknown girl
The second and first years looked mostly confused, but still respecting their senior privacy, they didn’t comment much
One though, a cat looking boy, was just looking at you…and then at his captain, who just walked out of the lockers
“oh? Yn-chan? Here already?” he asks you, smiling at you as he comes closer “shit, we need to go! I made reservations and all!”
“Wait, wait, wait there, you’re not presenting us?” the other black hair dude grins
“Why would I want to present her to guys like you?” Oikawa retorts, you stay there watching amused
“‘Like us’? As if you aren’t the one who constantly has girls around him. Pretty, why are you even dating this loser?” the brown hair one asks you
“Dating?” you ask confused. You look at your brother, who also has a dumbfounded look, and start laughing
“She’s beautiful, isn’t she? I guess beauty runs in the family…but I clearly was the favorite one” Oikawa says, which made you raise your eyebrow before hitting him
“Well, I guess you had to have something since you lack in the intelligence department” you say back
“Eh?! I’m incredibly intelligent, mind you!”
"Sure are…”
“I am!” you two start bickering “and I’m even better at volleyball, by the way!”
“Oh really? And who got into Shiratorizawa and became captain of her team first, huh?”
“I decline Shiratorizawa, not the other way around!” you two keep going, why? Because you’re siblings, and what type of siblings don’t pointlessly argue?
“emm….not to interrupt but…you two are family? And you are from Shiratorizawa?” the black hair asks, everyone in the team, outside of Iwaizumi, was just confused
After a brief introduction and explanation of everything, things were settled down
But not before Matsukawa and Hanamaki started teasing his captain because of all the achievements you had before him
You and Iwaizumi of course joined the teasing, even some second and first years were slightly joining
After a few minutes though, you look at your brother, making sure he wasn’t actually hurt by any of the teasing remarks. Both of you may annoy the life out of each other, but will always end up supporting each other dreams
In conclusion, meeting his team was definitely chaotic, but you could tell that they care and respect your brother, also accepting you as part of their family now
Which means that now you also have a whole bunch of new cheerleaders that are ready to cheer you on, even if it hurts their pride a little.

# tooru oikawa - my girl
Tumblr media
a/n = began writing this one while bored at the beach (i literally can't swim and dislike tanning so what's there for me to do) i just hope it's not out of character or smthing T-T
summary = you go to the beach with aoba johsai, only to be found in a rather uncomfortable situation. but don't you worry, oikawa is there.
warnings = mentions of some guys being lowkey creepy, nothing else i think.
Tumblr media
oikawa noticed that something was wrong.
going to the seaside with the entire aoba johsai volleyball team was supposed to be a fun way to say goodbye to their third years, officially closing the chapter of high school volleyball in their lives. everyone agreed to it, the brown-haired captain proud of himself for coming up with the idea. all of them were surely having fun, right?
he slowly left the water, ignoring the hungry stares from girls next to him as he started looking around, his eyes eagerly trying to find every single person who was able to attend the trip.
most of the guys, including kyoutani, matsukawa, and hanamaki, decided to join some people in a match of beach volleyball, oikawa chuckling under his breath as he saw them clearly crushing their opponents in the game. it took a quick glance behind him to notice yahaba, watari, and kindaichi in the water, the first year fighting for his life as the other two tried to drown him for fun. kunimi was, as per usual, sitting and making sure no one's things got stolen. it seemed as if everyone was in their place.
until he realized that you were nowhere to be seen.
oikawa tried not to panic, although it was clear from his behavior that he wasn't doing that great of a job at it. his eyes hurriedly scanned every possible corner, carefully looking through the crowds of people, hoping and praying that he would find you in one of them, that you weren't captured or something.
but the moment his eyes met yours, he wasn't relieved at all.
you stood by the bar, arms crossed over your chest as you, once again, tried to politely walk past two guys who in an almost demanding tone asked you for your number around ten minutes ago. since then, they've been bothering you without an end; stepping into your personal space, their hands trying to gently brush against your body, cheeky smiles on their faces as they tried every method possible to, get your social media accounts, number, anything. you tried to ignore them as much as you could, brushing their attempts off with the nicest face you could muster up to make, taking small steps from time to time as you headed towards the exit.
much to your disappointment, though, they seemed to understand exactly what your plan was, cornering you in a way that made you unable to escape from them. as you were trying to think of a way to get away as fast as you could, you suddenly saw a pair of hands gently tapping on arms of both guys.
"she's a beautiful one, isn't she?" hearing and seeing oikawa made you let out a breath of relief, one you didn't even know you were holding in until now. he got between the two guys, his hands immediately creeping around your waist, your eyes widening in surprise at his actions.
"too bad for you boys, she's mine."
his next actions shocked you even more, his face suddenly mere inches away from yours as his lips crashed into yours, his hands squeezing your waist gently as your back fell against the wall behind you. you melted into the kiss instinctively, lips moving swiftly against his as one of your hands traveled to his back. you smiled into the kiss, noticing in the corner of your eye that the two guys from before left you alone, frowns on their faces as they walked away.
as both of you pulled away from the kiss, heavy breathing being the only thing disrupting the silence between you, you couldn't help but notice the glint of worry in oikawa's eyes, giving you a concerned look.
"they didn't do anything to you, right?" his voice was unusually soft, his daily demeanor completely vanishing, just as if you were presented with a completely different side of oikawa. you shook your head in response, seeing the boy let out a sigh of relief, a genuine smile gracing his face. "thank god. i wouldn't forgive myself if my girl got hurt."
my girl.
his... girl?
you could feel the burning feeling rushing to your cheeks, giving the setter a puzzled look as you tried your best to use your hair as a cover-up. oikawa chuckled, his hand awkwardly scratching his neck.
"well, not my girl technically." he came back to his usual, flirty demeanor, face leaning in next to your ear. "but i definitely wouldn't complain if you were."
he couldn't get his eyes off of you for even a spare second, taking in every small reaction to his words, scanning the features on your face as you silently put the pieces together. suddenly, a lot of previous situations that you and the rest of the team were confused about made sense.
how oikawa rejected the prettiest model who asked him out after his game a few weeks prior, how his usual flirty demeanor seemed to calm down a bit, remarks of this sort only being thrown around and to the volleyball team and you. how he didn't gush over every girl who tried flirting with him, ignoring their attempts more and more. it was unusual for oikawa to act like this, but no one knew how to approach that topic in a conversation with him.
right now, you didn't have to.
"that's why you rejected that one model after the game?" you mumbled, eyes looking up at oikawa, his hair still damp as little droplets of water fell from his hair. the boy gave you a nod in response, a smile not leaving his face.
"and every girl prior to that. and after that, too." his eyes lowered to your lips for just a second, an action that you didn't leave unnoticed. "i only had my eyes on you, sweetheart. but you never quite caught the hint."
"you flirt with iwaizumi more than with me, tooru." you pointed out, a laugh escaping your lips as the brown-haired boy didn't even try to deny it, trying your best to ignore how your cheeks went even more red at the nickname that slipped from his lips.
"i wanted to ask you out properly later today." he admitted, eyes locked with yours, an awkward laugh leaving his lips. "i guess the universe was fed up with me postponing it all the time."
you giggled at his response, hand coming up to pat his shoulder as you went past him.
"i'm waiting for the proper question, then." you said quietly, just enough for oikawa to hear.
"because for your information, my answer will always be yes."

hello! this is fr my first time requesting for a oneshot. i have this scenario that i CANT get out of my head and i really love how you articulate things so 😁😁😁
basically it is volleyball national match between japan and argentina where reader is a huge oikawa fan but is engaged to osamu. they went to check on atsumu before the game and reader BEGS atsumu to get them a pic with oikawa in which atsumu replies with; " 'samu are you hearing this?!" and osamu goes "theyre my fiancee. believe me, im more pissed than you are." both of the twins are half-jokingly upset that reader is more happy to see oikawa but reader made it clear that they are rooting for japan!
reader ends up getting a pic with oikawa, osamu being the one taking the pic with a scowl on his face.
i just thought it would be funny hehe
Hihi anon, I'm so sorry it's taken me so long to get to this one ;-; If you're reading this, you should know that it's been in the back of my mind ever since you first sent it. I've always been intending to write it, and I was just waiting for the perfect inspiration. And it finally hit me! It's Olympics time baby.
Pairing: Miya Osamu x gn!reader (but... it's not really the main focus?)
WC: 1k
Tumblr media
"What did ya just ask me?" Osamu runs his fingers through his still-wet hair. He just stepped out of the bathroom, and you dropped a bomb on him.
"I said, do you think Atsumu can get me in to meet Oikawa Tooru tomorrow?" You bounce eagerly on the hotel bed.
"Ya do know Oikawa is on the opposite team, right?" Osamu asks slowly, and you flop back onto the bed with a groan.
"Of course, I'm not an idiot! It's just - you know I went to Aoba Johsai. I was a first year when Oikawa was a third year, so obviously I never actually met him, but my friends and I were kind of obsessed with him," You actually giggle. "Just imagine the looks on their faces when I get a photo with him!"
"It's like ya don't know my brother at all," Osamu sighs as he lifts the covers to crawl in bed. You scramble up and scoot in next to him. "Do ya know what it's gonna do to him if ya ask him that?"
"He's a big boy," You say breezily. "I think he can handle it."
Osamu just shakes his head, leaning over to turn off the lamp. "Just make sure he knows it was all your idea," He says pointedly, pulling the blanket up and settling back against his pillows.
"Just think," You sigh, snuggling your cheek against his bicep, "Tomorrow I'm going to meet the Oikawa Tooru."
"Yer already practically related to the Miya Atsumu. Isn't that enough?" He grumbles.
"He's old news," You chuckle, and Osamu huffs what could almost be considered a laugh through his nose.
"Whatever. Just get some sleep. Big day tomorrow." He presses a kiss to your lips. You settle in against his chest, but you aren't feeling very tired at all.
The next morning, Osamu grips your hand tight as you wind your way through the Olympic stadium. It's so full of people and sounds and lights, it almost makes you dizzy. Eventually, you hear Atsumu bellow your and Osamu's names.
"You're here!" He pulls you both into a bone crushing hug. "Ya all ready to cheer for me? I want ta hear ya yelling all the way on the court." He grins.
"Of course!" You say, completely sincere. "You're gonna kill it today, 'Tsumu." You sock him on the arm. He almost turns to go, but you stop him.
"Wait, 'Tsumu!" You say. "I've got a teeny, tiny favor to ask you." He narrows his eyes, and Osamu backs slightly away, as if denying any kind of association with you in this moment.
"What kinda favor?" He asks slowly. Your grin widens.
"Is there any way you can get me in to meet Oikawa Tooru?" You ask, clasping your hands in front of yourself and pasting on your best puppy dog look. Atsumu immediately swings around to glare at Osamu, who throws his hands up in defense.
"Are ya hearin' this?" He almost yells.
"I've been hearin' it for the last 24 hours," Osamu exaggerates drily. "And it wasn't my idea, 'Tsumu! Swear! Ya think I want my fiancée meetin' that pretty boy?"
Atsumu sighs, pinching the bridge of his nose for a moment. "Yer lucky I love ya," He finally bites out, and you can't hold back your excited squeak.
"Seriously?! Thanks, 'Tsumu!" You throw your arms around him, and he huffs.
"Guess we gotta hurry," He grumbles, turning on his heel. You grab for Osamu and practically drag him along behind you. Before you know it, you're surrounded with the team Argentina colors.
"Hiya," Atsumu approaches one of the team's managers and gestures to you, "Is Oikawa-san around? Got somebody that'd like to meet him."
"Oh? Someone looking for me?" At the sound of his voice, you turn, suddenly feeling like you're back in high school again, and just a little bit star struck.
"Oikawa-san!" You blurt out, "I was such a huge fan of yours in high school!" You can hear Atsumu feign a gag behind you, but you ignore him.
"No way, really?" Oikawa laughs, delighted. "I don't always get to meet such dedicated fans." He turns and rattles off something in Spanish to someone behind him. She produces a glossy photograph, and he scribbles his signature across it.
"Oh, wow," You gush, carefully gripping the photo so as not to smudge the fresh autograph.
"Hey, you got your phone there? We can get a quick picture." You pull it from your pocket immediately, pulling up the camera with shaky hands. Your friends are going to lose their minds.
"Here," Oikawa hands your phone to the same manager who'd just handed him the photo, and she holds it up, ready to snap the photo. When you turn to pose with him, you catch a glimpse of Osamu, arms crossed over his chest. The frown crinkling his brow is absolutely adorable. Atsumu, meanwhile, is cradling his forehead in his palm.
Oikawa slides his arm around you, the two of you smile, and that quickly, the photo is snapped.
"Thank you so much!" You retrieve your phone. "My friends aren't gonna believe this. This was so great of you, Oikawa-san."
"No problem," He gives his hand a wave, "Can I count on you cheering for me?" He asks, flashing you one of his signature grins. You feel your smile falter.
"Sorry," You say, biting your lip, "That's one thing I can't do."
His eyes dart to the twins, and to your surprise, he barks out a laugh. "Guess I should have expected that! He's a lucky guy to have you cheering for him."
"My future brother-in-law," You explain quickly, feeling Osamu's eyes boring into you. Oikawa laughs again, delighted.
"Don't you worry. I'll give him hell just for you." He winks, and you can't help but laugh at that.
"Thanks again!" You say quickly.
"Anytime," He says amiably, turning back to his team.
The twins descend on you immediately. You proudly display the photo on your phone, but Atsumu reaches for the signed photo in your hand.
"What the hell did ya need ta get his autograph for?" Atsumu grumbles.
"Oi!" Osamu reaches for your phone and peers a little closer at the photo. "Is that his hand on yer hip?"
You link your arms through both of theirs appeasingly, grinning widely. Would you look at that? You've managed to make both Miya twins jealous at once.

A Tall Manager -
Some teams and how they would be with a tall (betwen 175 to 180cm) beautiful manager.
The teams include: Karasuno, Aoba Johsai/Seijoh, Shiratorizawa and Fukurodani.
Note: This is another random idea i had and had a beautiful, amazing friend choose the teams for me :)) this was written at 3am and its rushed, I'm sorry.
Might have some grammatical mistakes or mispellings, sorry for those- LONG POST!
Pronouns: You, implied as female.
Tumblr media
Karasuno (Height: 177cm) -
You're a 1st year, in Class 5.
Which also means you share a class with the one and only, Yachi Hitoka.
You both first talk was due to a project you two needed to do together and she was utterly scared about your height.
But you quickly surprised her with a friendly nature, almost like an older sister. Yachi grew close to you rather fast.
So it was no surprise when she asked you to come with her to the school gym, after class.
"Hum? Why, are you going to train for something?"
"NO, I TOLD A BEAUTY THAT I WOULD JOIN HER CLUB ACCIDENTALLY AND I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO, PLEASE (Y/N)!"
"A beauty? what..."
Despite that, you decided to follow her anyways.
Arriving at the gym, it was clear both you and Yachi gained the attention of almost all boys in the gym, which was somewhat understandable, since we have this 149cm cute girl and 177cm pretty girl.
Kiyoko was the first to walk towards you both, greeting Yachi before going to you with a friendly welcoming and asking if you were to join as a third manager. Now you understand how Yachi couldn't say no.
Daichi, Suga and Asahi were the next to introduce. They all were really sweet to you, although Suga were jokingly disappointed at you being taller than him while being a 1st year, which made you laugh a bit.
Ennoshita, Kinoshita and Narita were the next ones, all also very kind, but in a more quieter way. Kinoshite also joked a bit, asking what you did to get so tall, since you were taller than him. His only answer was a slap at the back of his head by Ennoshita.
Nishinoya and Tanaka, were... something else. When you first introduced yourself, they were both dead silent, almost as stones statues, that also scared the other 2nd years, before tears appeared in their eyes. They were just happy of having 3 different managers. You could also hear Tanaka commenting something about "School's Beauty" and "Nekoma", but you weren't too sure.
Hinata and Yamaguchi were both stunned by you, a small blush in their faces while you looked at both of them with a bright smile. Hinata started jumping up and down, greeting you and commenting about your height in a non-malicious way, to which you tried to answer truthfully. As for Yamaguchi, he let out a small compliment, shocking himself, but your only response was a compliment about his freckles.
Tsukishima and Kageyama were... Indifferent. Of course, Kageyama was surprised about your height for some time since you were almost his height, but it quickly drew away. Tsukishima knew about you, since you were in a College Prep Class as well, so he somewhat respected you, but he really didn't care about your height or anything.
After that day, you were now officially a Manager for the Crows. And, even though you were almost the same height or taller than most of them, they were still protective of you, just like they were towards the other 2 managers.
But, to be honest, you wouldn't have it any other way.
Tumblr media
Aoba Johsai/Seijoh (Height: 179cm) -
You were a 2nd Year, in Class 6.
You sit right beside the sweet Libero for the Volleyball Team, Shinji Watari.
He was pretty surprised about your height, he wasn't short in anyway, being 171cm, but he could feel shorter beside your 179cm self.
You both were "seatmates" since the first day of 2nd year, and just clicked as friends.
After the volleyball team's practice match against Karasuno, Shinji constantly heard his captain commenting something about Karasuno's Manager and Seijoh's Lack of one.
So, one day, while both of you were quietly eating during lunch, he asked you the infamous question;
"(Y/N)-chan, do you have a club yet?"
"Hum? No, my last club was full this time."
"Would you like to join our club as a manager?"
To say you were surprised was an understatement, but you still agreed about it.
After school, you found yourself a bit nervous, you knew their volleyball team was strong and a powerhouse, so a small wave of anxiety filled you but Shinji was quick to calm down your nerves.
Arriving at the Gym, you took quick notice or the spacious place and all the players around, who seemed to be doing their own things.
The coaches already knew why you were there for, so he called out all of his team players, who were quick to notice the pretty girl standing besides their Libero.
The Third Years all had different reactions, and it kinda shocked you: Oikawa was the first one, greeting you with a sweet smile and also a wink, that took you by surprise, but a ball on his head was enough to make him drop the "flirtatious boy" act. Iwaizumi was the next one, the one who gave you a proper welcoming, glaring down at his captain. Matsukawa and Hanamaki, however, instead of introducing themselves first, their first reaction was compare you and the Ace height, while holding a bit of laugh, this making Iwaizumi angry and you a bit surprised.
Yahaba was another one who tried to flirt, but just looking at your sweet smile was enough to make the boy weak and stutter a bit before recovering his posture.
Kyotani completely ignored you, at first, but was forced by a certain Setter (read: Yahaba) to be kind and introduce himself. However, instead of the introduction, his first reaction was to ask how did you get this tall, boy was genuinely curious. Also, you were 0.2cm taller than him, he was insistent to know the "truth".
The First Year also had unique reactions: While Kindaichi was bit red on his face while staring at you, Kunimi were just staring uninterested and kinda tired from all his training, that didn't stop him from being kind to you when you first introduced yourself.
Needless to say, they all accepted you pretty fast as they first manager. Iwaizumi was quick to teach you how to throw a ball at your captain's head. Matsukawa and Hanamaki were also quick to put you in their group chat, where they would post random memes.
Now its a routine for you, Shinji and the other two 2nd years to have lunch together.
Also, the next time Seijoh went against Karasuno, Oikawa was fast to brag about you, as their manager, to his precious kouhai, who was utterly confused about the situation.
Tumblr media
Shiratorizawa (Height: 175cm) -
You were a 2nd year, in class 5.
Now this one is a bit different, you and Taichi were close friends before High School, meeting each other in middle school and it kinda just clicked as best friends.
This one, instead of Taichi calling you, you were the one to initiate the conversation. The main problem was the coach, who highly believed you would be a distraction for the boys.
It took some while to convince the coach, to even have the thought of giving you a chance, but seeing how some of them were alreayd distracting themselves with filling bottles and other stuff, instead of training was enough to make him agree.
So, one day, after school you found yourself standing on the doors, staring a bit dreamily around the gym and noticing the team players.
Look, you aren't short in the slightest, but being around this team makes you feel tiny. Their shortest members are around 174cm, for god's sake.
Taichi was the first one to notice you, jogging, mid training, to talk to you, and this quickly caught the attention of his teammates.
"Could this be? Taichi's girlfriend?~"
"Tendou, I don't think we should be meddling with our kouhai's love life."
"Are you telling me you aren't also curious Semi-Semi?"
"..."
Be glad the Coach was busy that time.
Anyway, while the third years talked like you weren't there, Taichi was quick to introduce you to his teammates.
First person you met was Goshiki, he seemed a bit nervous and serious around you, but still did a fast introduction and talking about how he was going to be Shiratorizawa's Next Ace, to which you just smiled brightly and agreed with him. Kai and Yusho, the next ones, were a bit in the back, but you still greeted both of them in a friendly manner, making a small blue appear at their face.
Shirabu, seemed a bit annoyed since you were 0.2cm taller than him, but was quickly subdued since you were really friendly to him. He seemed indifferent, but having someone sweet yet not overwhelming was good for his soul.
Then, you get the 3rd years. Hayato was the first upperclasmen to greet you, making a small joke about you being taller to him, which made you giggle a bit. Reon were also really sweet with you and promised to help you around the gym whenever needed, although you couldn't take his offer.
Semi was a bit more quiet about it, but he was glad to have a manager to help with certain 'trivial' things, since he was one of the main 'workers' there. If you like music, he would be quick to recommend multiple songs for your playlist.
Tendou was the sweetest one, instead of just a normal greeting, he would go directly for a quick hug; If you were uncomfortable with the situation, he would be quick to break from the hug and apologize, giving a proper introduction. If you were to return his hug, you are now officially adopted by him, that's it.
Ushijima was a bit more complicated. While he was staring you down, he introduced himself and welcoming you to the team officially. He seemed a bit blunt, but you were quick to notice that this wasn't in a malicious way. So you took his encouragement and tips to heart whenever doing your managerial work.
In all fairness, this team would act like they didn't need a manager first but with you there, their tactics were more calculated and they stuff was more organized, so they were pretty happy with you there.
Also, when you first met Oikawa, he was exteemely annoyed at the fact that Shiratorizawa had a manager before him. Ushijima was quick to throw his famous infamous catchphrase, annoying the setter even more.
Tumblr media
Fukurodani (Height: 180cm) -
You are a first year, but this time, you didn't share class with anyone else on the team.
You trial as Manager was one of an accident.
You were walking around the schoolz trying to evade as many people as possible, you accidentally bumped into one of the volleyball managers, who seemed to be in a hurry, with you both falling to the ground.
Before you could even say anything, she quickly got up and apologize, picking up some papers she scattered around and then running away. What she failed to notice was one last paper laying beside you.
"Volleyball Trial Manager Sheet".
While in class now, you stared at the paper, a bit curious about it. You knew the volleyball team had alreayd 2 managers, so they wouldn't really need another one right? But you also remembered that they were both 3rd years and this was their last year, what if the team doesn't have another manager?
These thought plagued in your mind for the entire day and took one of your parents to convince you to finally join it.
The next day, you decided to join during morning practice, rapidly noticing they were in a rally, so you just stayed at the door, trying not to disturb the team. But a hand on your shoulder made you turn around, noticing the Coach with a small smile.
He then entered the gym, clapling to get his students attention, which was a success but their attention was fast towards you. You introduced yourself kinda nervous about the sittuation but still holding your place.
Yukie and Kaori were the first to go to you. They were really happy to have another manager with them, and kept complimenting your height, which made you a bit bashed.
The first years were a bit in shock about your height. Anahori was a bit intimated but curious, but he also hold onto his comments to himself, scared that it could offend you in any way, to which you quickly denied, saying you didn't mind. Onaga was also surprised, he didn't have to look down too much to talk to you and that was a relief for his neck. He was also happy you didn't mess his name like his classmates.
Komi and Konoha were a bit in shock, their new manager was taller than them in unique levels, but they were really gentle with their greetings even joking a bit about stealing your height to play.
Sarukui was one of the calm ones, he was kinda surprised about looking at you in the eyes without bending his neck, but nonetheless he was happy about having another manager happy. He was also grateful about you not commenting on his mouth unnecessarily, that has happened way too much.
Washio was somewhat indifferent about it. He was surprised a bit but didn't have anything to comment much, since he knew height was something uncontrollable. As being a manager, he was glad to see the team would have someone trustworthy as their manager for two more years when the other 2 graduates.
Now, here comes the complicated part. Bokuto for you was an enigma, he was blunt about his question and commentaries about your height, but you knew there was no ill intent in his words. But after it cooled down, he was fast to ask you about volleyball and what you knew.
When you first found out about his Emo Modd, you were taken aback, since how could someone lively be so quiet?
Akasshi, the sweet boy he is, thanked you a lot almost daily, since your praises were quick to take Bokuto out of his Emo Mode, thus taking a lot of stress out of him. He was also the most helpful one, he would always take the boxes from you hand, yadda, yadda.
Overall, Fukurodani were pretty shocked about your height but these sweet boys were nothing but sweet.
Also, Bokuto bragged about you being a Manager to his cat friend, who at first thought was a lie but was quickly shut off by your tall stature cheering for Bokuto.

✄・・・ Crisp Leaves [Aoba Johsai Manager Series]
➜ Pairing: Aoba Johsai x Manager! Reader
➜ Warning: none
➜ Notes: Manager in this story will be portrayed as a girl. She will be tall, around 170.5 cm.
Tumblr media
↷ SUMMARY ↶
Yes, they were wondering about your almost nonexistent love live.
“Hey, [Nickname]-chan, I’ve been thinking about this really hard,” Oikawa drawled after swallowing his favorite milk bread, cheek resting on top of the desk.
“Knowing Oikawa is thinking hard, must be something stupid,” Hanamaki commented.
“Why did you say that so casually!?” sure enough, the slander managed to revive the captain from his slump–shooting out from his seat almost instantly.
Currently, it was lunch and the third years were hanging out at Iwaizumi and your class–pushing your desks together and pulled up a few chairs to accommodate five people at the same time. While you packed your own lunch and Oikawa brought his milk bread, the rest was taking a short journey to the cafeteria for food.
“I couldn’t help but agree,” Matsukawa added, hurting the boy’s pride even further.
“[Nickname]-chan!” of course, the best way for him to be out of this misery is to call out for your help.
“What is it?” you decided to indulge him this time because the captain seemed to be invested in this certain topic each minute passed.
Oikawa pointed at you before moving to gesture Hanamaki, Matsukawa, and Iwaizumi along with him including. “You are surrounded by boys.”
Furrowing your eyebrows in confusion, you answered nonetheless. “…I can see that.”
“A lot of boys for more than three years!”
“Well, I am the manager of the boys’ volley club if you forget.”
“What are you on about?” Iwaizumi deadpanned, not liking how this certain topic stretched out–the ‘ridiculous alarm’ in the back of his head was ringing, signaling that indeed this conversation went from least normal to weird in an alarming rate.
“Don’t you see, Iwa-chan!?” Oikawa gasped dramatically, pointing towards you in earnest. “[Nickname]-chan is surrounded by boys for more than three years! You bound to like some at some point! Why have I never heard about this!? I thought I’m your best friend!”
There’s a pregnant silence before Hanamaki broke it by remarking, “You really are a moron.”
Oikawa pressed a hand upon his chest, faking as if an arrow just stabbed through his heart–not believing this sort of betrayal. “I’m hurt Makki!”
“But he does have a point,” Matsukawa, with his saving grace, decided to take this into his account for once. He looked at you for a moment and hummed. “I mean, everyone has been through that phase somehow. Wanna share?”
“Thank you for making my point valid!” Oikawa harrumphed in triumph, which earned him a disgusted gaze from Iwaizumi.
You sighed in resignation, finally getting into conclusion. “To put it simple, you want to know about my nonexistent love life?”
“I’ve seen you getting confessed to by a senior so it’s not really nonexistent.” Hanamaki commented, pulling up a lazy smirk as he rested his chin on his palm–successfully dragged out another resigned sigh. And how did he even know that was beyond you.
“Well, what do you want to know?”
“Did you have a crush on someone during middle school!?” Oikawa exclaimed–the ruckus he caused managed to gather pairs of curious eyes diverting their gaze towards their table, and received a heartful smack on the back of his head courtesy of Iwaizumi.
“I did.” Your quick answer without a hint of hesitation made the four taken aback–definitely not expecting it. They were more ready with lots of stutter, reluctancy to reply, and flaming red engulfing your face as you confessed to them–the usual routine if someone ever dug other’s deepest secret.
“That was fast,” Matsukawa remarked, shoulders eased up a little. True, even though you’re practically under the spotlight of sudden interrogation you didn’t feel the need to be nervous or flustered–which kind of intimidated them a bit. Contrast to it, they were actually the ones who were tense with whatever answer you had in store–maybe this is what you called an anticipation.
They would declare themselves a hypocrite if not once they thought of you as someone who’s not attractive–considering you were getting attentions from others especially during official matches. They’re the opposite gender so of course they took it to their mind at some moment.
“So, who is it?” Hanamaki asked, rising a brow.
“Tooru.”
“…Please tell me you’re joking.” If short-circuiting is capable to happen in one’s brain, then Iwaizumi had that undoubtedly. You? Had a crush on Oikawa during middle school? At this moment, snowing in tropical regions would likely be more possible than your statement. Even Hanamaki and Matsukawa found themselves rendered speechless by your revelation.
“Sadly not,” all of his hope was crushed in an instant. You then directed a bored stare towards the said mentioned person. “To be honest, I’m questioning myself too. Do my taste really stooped that low?”
“Y-You’re mean, [Nickname]-chan!” Oikawa protested. “But it’s nice knowing my charms works on you!”
“Thank goodness you’ve opened your eyes for the truth, [First Name],” Matsukawa sighed in relief, incurring another series of protests from the brunette and a satisfied firm nod from Hanamaki.
“I’m assuming you’re not currently?” the pink-haired boy added which earned him a nod.
“I’m over it, it’s an old story after all,” You took a short second for swallowing before continuing, smiling playfully. “Knowing he’s vowed his unending loyalty to volleyball, I know when to back off.”
“You are a good person,” Hanamaki hummed in understanding. It’s difficult to recover from heartbreak or backing down from a certain feelings, you managed to do that for Oikawa earn another respect point from him. You thought of the brunette thoroughly unlike the girls he’s been with, you respect and fully support him instead of telling him to tone down his ambitions for aiming higher in volleyball.
“That, I can agree.” Unexpectedly, it came from the mentioned captain. His playfulness vanished as he moved to rested his chin on top of the desk. There’s solemn reflected on his eyes which you couldn’t quite decipher; was it guilt?
“If you’re thinking on apologizing then don’t,” Stating firmly, you placed your chopsticks down to emphasized. Because there’s nothing for him to apologize. Not with things which wasn’t in his control to begin with. “I can’t choose to who to like, and it’s my own decision anyway. If I felt hurt, it’s on me. You’re not responsible for any of it, Tooru. Besides, either it’s romantic or not, I still love you.”
People would take it as cringe worthy or too dramatic in modern era such as currently. However, that’s how feelings worked; sometimes extremely hard to put into words, sometimes it didn’t even need to be vocalized. Your words held honesty–no matter what, you cared for Tooru, Hajime, and the others immensely.
“[Nickname]-channn!!” As usual, there’s fake waterworks involved as soon as Oikawa successfully comprehended. As usual, he bolted from his seat to threw himself on you. Though, you keep it to yourself when you took a notice on how his hug was firmer than the usual playful ones.
Then there were more hands joining in; one settled on your head, one resting on your shoulder, and a little finger intertwined itself with yours. It was quite a sight to see, but you couldn’t care less.
You love your boys.

a/n: i had a lot of fun writing this one <3 by far the cutest i've written :(
˗ˏˋ XMAS MASTERLIST ´ˎ˗
Tumblr media
When Iwaizumi invited you to a Christmas party with fellow Aoba Johsai graduates, you thought nothing of it. It was going to be on two nights before Christmas, just a small thing amongst your closest friends and an invite that you accepted pretty readily.
It would be a good distraction from missing Oikawa too much considering how four days after would mark six years of dating since third year. Although you wish he could be in Japan to celebrate the holidays with you as he’s done every year since leaving, he seems to be busier this time around because he’s got a match to play on Christmas to celebrate some sort of ‘tradition’. At least he’s given you the livestream link to watch, promising to wink at the camera with each service ace he gets.
“Hi, pretty,” Oikawa’s voice rings out from your phone which was currently propped up against the wall of your kitchen. You’re scrambling around, trying to find the appropriate ingredients needed to make dinner.
“Hey, handsome,” you reply, not paying much attention to your phone screen that your boyfriend was currently dominating in all of his drowsy glory, having just woken up from a good night’s rest.
“What are you doing?”
“Making dinner.”
“Without me?” You can hear the pout in his voice as he peers at you with his tired eyes that were still slightly swollen.
Brushing aside the obvious that he was in another country, you place your chopping board in front of your phone so he can hear your response clearly. “Yes because you should be asleep instead of waking up to call me at 6:50am.”
That earns you a whine. “But I love spending time with you! I can’t do that whilst asleep.”
“Wow, I can’t believe you don’t dream of me,” you set out to cutting up some carrots, decidedly making a curry for tonight’s dinner.
“I do! But when I’m not dreaming of you I wake up so I can spend some time with actual you,” Oikawa points out, his confession making your insides gush with adoration and warmth. You wish he was here so you could actually kiss him for it. “Don’t you dream of me too?”
“All the time. Even when I’m not asleep, you’re always on my mind, Tooru.”
His lips become wobbly and a sudden shine glosses over his eyes, was he about to cry from that small of a comment? A sniffle that he let escape answers the question for you. “You’re so perfect, I love you so much,” he mumbles, slightly muffled when he wipes his eyes. There’s urgency in his next demand, instructing you to ‘tell me you love me too.’
“I love you too, Tooru,” you reassure. “I really hate that you’re not coming home these holidays.”
“I know, love, I hate it too, I even tried crying in front of my manager but she wouldn’t budge!”
“Good. Someone has to keep you in check when I’m not there. Send her my best wishes.”
“Not you too! Even the love of my life is cruel to me.”
“Only when you deserve it.”
He humphs, watching you work in silence. No matter how much you berate him for waking early, you will always appreciate his company, even if it’s over a phone screen that leaves you constantly yearning for a physical version of him, but at least the emptiness can be mended with video calls, messages that update you about his day, and selfies to match.
Although the feeling of an empty bed, unused mugs, and untouched books that weren’t yours will always haunt you, no matter how hard Oikawa can try to mend it, it just isn’t the same without your other half by your side. You could be selfish- well, you already are, it’s just that you’re not inclined to act on your selfishness because watching him soar and flourish in Argentina was a real blessing. If he’s happy, then you are too.
“You’re not mad that I’m not coming back, are you?” He asked, voice suddenly a lot softer and timid.
Pouring some water into a pot, you huff with contempt. “I’m not, I promise, it’s just- I really miss you. It’s been a while since your last visit to Japan as well and it feels a little empty in our apartment without you. My life feels a little empty, too.”
“You’re gonna make me actually cry, I hate it when you’re sad,” he mutters, hugging his pillow tighter to his chest as his frown deepens. “I’m sorry.”
“No, it’s not your fault at all, Tooru. I don’t want you apologising for things like this because I’ll support you no matter what, you know that.”
“I’m apologising because you’re too good for me. You could’ve left me whenever you wanted to find a ‘better’ man- if he exists, but he doesn’t because I’m already the best! Yet you’ve decided to stay with me only for me to put you through all this.”
You scoff. “You also could’ve left me to find a ‘better’ partner-”
“-no such thing,” he says with a wink, but the mischief doesn’t really reach his eyes.
“Yet you’ve decided to stay with me as well, Tooru. You put so much into our relationship that I don’t have anything to complain about, which is good because otherwise Iwaizumi would throttle you on my behalf.”
“Of course I’m gonna stay with you, you’re the one for me. I figured that out before I even left for Argentina.”
“You’re the one for me too, Tooru,” you confess timidly, making a ‘heart’ shape for him with your hands. Although this is far from your first time being vulnerable with one another, it’s always going to be a little cringey expressing your feelings for one another, no matter how comfortable Oikawa may get with you.
The conversation dwindles a little as you transfer your phone near the stovetop, waiting for the vegetables to boil whilst preparing the curry roux you purchased earlier. Under the kitchen lights with the sound of appliances in the background, you’re content to just exist with your lover through the familiarity of your device.
As the vegetables soften and the rice cooker is operating the background, Tooru has gotten up and done his morning routine- shirtless because he was generous enough to keep you in mind, before showing you the beautiful landscape of Argentina from his apartment. It’s outside on his balcony that you continue the conversation.
“Iwaizumi actually invited me to a Christmas party with our Seijoh friends,” you tell him once you leave the pot to boil.
His eyes widen a little in curiosity, leaning closer to the phone in interest. “Are you going?”
“Yeah, I am. I thought it might be fun.” Tapping your fingers on the kitchen bench, you raise your phone closer to your face so you can see his pretty face clearer. “I’m excited to catch up with the friends I haven’t seen in a while which is easier because I won’t have your annoying ass around me all the time.”
Putting his hand over his chest and clenching it, he acts as though he’s been fatally wounded and you can’t help but roll your eyes at how dramatic he is.
“Okay, okay, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean it,” you relent.
Oh what a miracle, Oikawa has been healed. “Can I help you find an outfit?” He asks, a sheepish smile on his face. When you nod in agreement, he continues. “You should wear that one outfit you love that I got for you. You haven’t worn it at all and I think you’d look really nice in it,” he mutters with a small pout, putting his chin on his hand.
“You’re not even gonna be there to see it!”
He raises his hands in defence. “You can always send photos! It’ll be like I’m with you through the dress because I bought it and so technically, that’s me showing off how beautiful my partner is.”
You dismiss him with a wave of your hand, denying his compliment with a shy expression. Your humbleness pisses Oikawa off.
“Don’t be like that. You know how pretty you are,” he reaffirms. “I hate that I’m not there in person to remind you.”
You soften a little, trying not to let sadness plague your expression again. You truly are miserable without Oikawa, feeling incomplete unless he’s here with you but that’s how you know you’re soulmates, you suppose. Such a painful way of realising something so beautiful.
The call ends twenty or so minutes later because he needed to go on his morning run, but this routine is performed daily. He calls, asks you about your day, you tell him then ask him about how he is, and what he has to do later. It’s a nice routine and one you’ve been sticking to very frequently, a balm to the burn of longing.
But when you’re preparing for the Seijoh Christmas party, you’re about to call Oikawa to show him how you look, only for him to not answer your call which was very unusual. Maybe he was still asleep? He did mention how training was draining him and that it hurt to walk so you chalk it to that explanation and let him rest for a little longer. He deserves it for how much he gives towards being a volleyball player.
Leaving the house at exactly 7:30, the address to the place you were told is only twenty-five minutes away. Although you find it weird that even though it’s a friend-organised party, the venue was a professional and proper hall for celebrations. Looking on the website, there were even full-length windows acting as walls that gazed at the scenery outside but you brushed it off, thinking nothing of it before going on with your day.
But now that you’ve arrived, managing to find a spot in the relatively filled parking lot, you can feel your gut brewing in scepticism and uncertainty. Were you at the right place? Surely, the fairy lights are on and beautiful, there’s cars so there must be people, but why was there no music? No Mariah Carey to tell you that you were in the right place?
Then, the familiar face of Iwaizumi stepping outside calms the turbulence of anxiety you previously drowned under. He waves at you with an excited grin, helping you up the small stairs with a gentle hand.
“You look nice,” he compliments upon exchanging greetings. You smile gratefully at him, thanking him for his company and for his compliment.
“Thank you, Oikawa actually picked this out for me, it suits me quite well!” You gushed. “You look nice tonight as well, Iwa.”
“Thank you. Should we go inside? A few people are already here.”
Nodding, the dark-haired quickly leads the way, ushering you inside through the halls which were much nicer than you expected. The reception is beautiful, there is so much art decorating the walls but it gave a refined and sophisticated vibe, and the gentle lighting only pulled it all together.
Whoever is hosting this party must have gotten a raise. No, maybe a promotion instead.
As your shoes clink against the marble floor, Iwaizumi opens the door for you and you thank him with a grateful nod before abruptly stopping.
The room is enchanting. The decor is beyond comprehension, the lighting is subtle but glamorous, and the windows indeed gave a beautiful view of snow coated trees, gently lit up by fairy lights.
But, the most marvellous sight of all was Oikawa Tooru himself, looking as dashing as ever whilst standing in the midst of an empty room.
Your feet take you to him without thinking and you don’t have time to think before you’re embracing him in a bone crushing hug, a gesture he returns with just as much fervour and passion as he places a lingering kiss on your temple. Melting into each other’s embrace, there’s a shared feeling of relief, warmth, and content as you breathe him in.
“My love,” you whisper into the crisp fabric of his button-down. You’re too overwhelmed with happiness to be confused on the logistics of how and why he was in Japan. “You’re here.”
“I am,” he responds, separating from you to cup your cheeks, looking at you with so much love and adoration, eyes going down to admire the outfit you’re wearing. “You’re absolutely breathtaking, my beautiful, beautiful Y/N.”
You hide away from him slightly, shying away at his boldness.
“I’m finally home. But, there’s something I need to do first.” Oikawa then sinks to the floor on one knee, pulling out a velvet box with a stunning ring as he looks up at you with doe eyes that brim with hope.

All Too Well - Tooru Oikawa x Reader | Haikyuu
Is this inspired by All Too Well by Taylor Swift? Yes. Yes it is. That's my current favorite song.
Tumblr media
In middle school, Tooru Oikawa realized his dream of being the best at volleyball. He refused to believe that anyone could be better than him. In high school, he wasted no time in joining the team and worked harder than anyone. Come his second year, he started feeling comfortable with his position.
That was the year he met you.
Something about Oikawa is that when he falls for someone, he falls hard. The first year of your relationship was filled with romantic dates, constant sleepovers, and lots of PDA. He'd make sure you would always have a front row seat to every one of his games, dedicating all of his serves to you. He treated you like royalty.
The start of his third year started off the same, except now Tooru was getting recognized by professionals since he was close to graduating. He had a promising future ahead of him and he had wanted to spend it with you. However, Karasuno, a rival school, had gotten stronger since Aoba Johsai last played them. Oikawa fell into a routine of ignoring your texts, opting to train until every muscle in his body was sore and Iwaizumi had to threaten him to go home. In lieu of sleep, he would analyze Karasuno's video tapes to see their usual strategies.
If you watched the team during practice, Oikawa rarely ever smiled. His voice remained as warm as ever, but his jovial expression was replaced with a terrifying glare. The Tooru you had fallen in love with seemed to have disappeared.
After practice, the two of you would walk home together. What once was a way for Oikawa to cheerfully ramble to you alone had become him speeding past you with a quiet scowl.
You jogged to catch up with him, "Tooru."
"Yeah?" He refused to look at you or slow down.
"What's wrong? You're not as cheery as you usually are."
He sighed, "Nothing's wrong. Just stressed."
"I'm worried about you though. You've been doing nothing but practicing for days on end. You should take a break."
Oikawa finally slowed down before replying, "I can't! This is our final time to go to nationals in high school. If I let Karasuno beat us..."
"It'll be okay if you don't go to nationals! I know it'll hurt but it wouldn't be the end of the world. You're gonna go pro. You're an amazing player even if you lose."
"It wouldn't be the same! This is the last time us third years will be on the same team together!"
"They're your friends, Tooru! I'm sure they'd be fine knowing everyone gave their all in the end. Karasuno's third years probably feel the same way as you! Losing does not mean you're weak."
"Yes it does! In middle school, I was overshadowed by a kid that's now a first year on Karasuno's team. He's younger and dumber but he still stole everything from me!"
"He's a kid, Tooru! He probably looks up to you-" Before you could finish, Oikawa rolled his eyes and walked up to his house, slamming the front door closed. You tore your defeated gaze away from his house to make your way into yours.
Oikawa refused to talk to you after that day. He continued his toxic routine up until the day of the match against Karasuno. He didn't notice that you were in the audience, in the front row along with other peers cheering the team on. You tried not to stare at Tooru the whole time but found yourself constantly drifting back to him.
You witnessed the team's demeanor deflate at Karasuno's win. You gripped the rails in the stands as you saw the boys begin to tear up one by one.
As Oikawa gathered his things from the locker room, Iwaizumi pat him on the back, saying that their loss wasn't the end of the world despite how much it stung in the moment. That's exactly what you had said too. After his friend walked away, Tooru's fist weakly pounded the locker he slumped in front of.
You were right, he had realized. You were right and he had blown you off like you weren't important to him. You cared about him and he ignored you, blinded by the thought of proving his talent.
"I'm sorry." He whispered before breaking down into sobs, no one left in the room to hear him.
