IM THE PERSON WHO WAS TALKING ABOUT THINGS HAVE GOTTEN WORSE SINCE WE LAST SPOKE A FEW DAYS AGO And i agree about how sad it is that most queer horror authors i dont vibe with. do you have any you DO like? im always on the lookout for more and from what i’ve seen of your book taste on here we have pretty similar taste in books. can be any genre of horror tbh im not picky
hehehe yes i'd love to give u some recommendations! though if i'm being honest i really haven't found that many authors in the genre that i really vibe with yet. im still on the hunt... may leitz is probably the only one i can recommend that is kinda in the same vein as the "popular" ones, but Leitz is someone who i think does well balancing the extreme aspects of it with characters that are actually interesting and sympathetic to read (as opposed to just one-dimensional cannon fodder for random violence)
i don't know if any of these authors actually refer to themselves as "queer horror" authors nor do i know with certainty if all of them are a part of the lgbt community, but um. well i like their books. these also all aren't strictly about the characters identity; some focus more on it than others so i'll just say it's horror + lgbt characters.
i'll start with extreme horror:
fluids by may leitz - this will be the most extreme book i recommend, and i've talked about it a few times before. it's about two women, named Dahlia and Lauren, who meet on tinder during the pandemic, and after only a few days of talking Lauren takes it upon herself to drive to Dahlia's hometown and try and "save" her. things escalate, and the two women's paths diverge. cw: extreme violence and gore, rape, incest (the two girls pretend to be related), emetophobia, suicide, eating disorder, murder, literally everything you can think of. this is Extreme Horror, and i wouldn't recommend this one for anyone that's not already familiar with the genre.
girl flesh by may leitz - while i didn't like this one as much as fluids, i'm just a fan of may leitz's writing in general so i'd still recommend it. this one has a bit of a pacing problem & does a lot of telling rather than showing, but i like the direction leitz takes this one in the end. i've talked about this one before too so you might remember me rambling about it. this one is about two women who are kidnapped and wake up restrained in a dirty hotel in the middle of the texas mesa. they work together to escape their captors as well as the wild mesa and maybe even fall in love a little bit on the way. cw: extreme violence, gore, transphobia/deadnaming, eating disorder, emetophobia, self-harm, rape. this one isn't as extreme as fluids but i'd still be cautious with it.
to be devoured by sara tantlinger - this one is a short novella you can read in one sitting. Andi really really really wants to know what carrion tastes like. she's fascinated by the vultures that circle the edge of her property, but her fascination soon turns to obsession, and Andi will stop at nothing to learn their secrets. cw: blood consumption, cannibalism, violence and gore, very graphic animal harm and animal death
okay now the rest are just more general horror:
house of hunger by alexis henderson - loosely based on the legend of Elizabeth of Bathory, this story takes place in a society that runs on blood. Marion travels to the House of Hunger to begin her term as a bloodmaid under Countess Lisavet, who has a mysterious ailment that renders her weak and bedbound unless she has a constant flow of blood to treat it. Marion gets to know the other bloodmaids, and in time begins to realize not all is as it seems at the House of Hunger. cw: blood consumption, violence, abusive relationships/gaslighting, death
alexis henderson has also written the year of the witching, and she just announced an academy for liars. i really like her writing so i plan to check out her other work soon-ish.
apparitions by adam pottle - again i talked about this one recently so you may have seen it already, but i NEED more people to read this book. this follows the story of a young man who was born deaf and raised in an abusive household until he was able to escape as a teenager, only to be institutionalized immediately after. there he meets another deaf teen, and for the first time in his life, he has a language that he can speak with and can finally be understood. cw: child abuse, institutionalization, homophobia, abusive relationship, ableism, violence, death, religious trauma, animal harm and animal death.
the luminous dead by caitlin starling - gyre price is a lone caver swaddled inside a hi-tech suit that allows her to dive deep underground to map mineral deposits off-planet. however, the person on the other end of the suit has other plans, and easily takes control of gyre and her suit, putting the two at odds with each other as gyre spirals into uncertainty and paranoia while also having to deal with the terrifying presence of the tunneler. cw: claustrophobia, death, forced drugging, violence, gore, abusive/toxic relationship
caitlin starling also has a few other books though i haven't gotten around to reading them yet and i honestly haven't heard much about them so i can't say how they compare, but the luminous dead is one of my favorites of all time.
the Sworn Soldier series by T. Kingfisher - i love these books, they're just short fun horror stories with a really charming main character. Alex Easton is a retired soldier from Gallacia, and has their own special pronouns in Gallacian (kan/kanself) as part of their occupation and culture, and is what we would consider nonbinary (not all soldiers identify this way, but Alex does). vicars in Gallacia use van/vanself, there are different pronouns for children and adults, etc. i think it's just really interesting and i enjoy what the author has done with the worldbuilding and language, and how seamlessly it fits into her writing. the first book is a retelling of the fall of the house of usher (and is the stronger of the two) while the second one has Alex returning home to Gallacia and facing off with an old Gallacian superstition that's haunting their family cottage.
again i don't really know how T. Kingfisher/Ursula Vernon personally identifies but i do recommend her writing regardless, she's written other horror books as well as some fantasy books & she's just incredibly skilled imo, easy and fun to read.
most of my TBR that i'm working towards is horror so maybe i'll update this post later with more.... i'm currently reading providence girls by morgan dante and into the drowning deep by mira grant.
morgan dante has a few other books that are all some flavor of gothic horror/romance and i'm very excited for their new book that just came out TODAY that's a carmilla/elizabeth of bathory reimagining. i'm planning on reading that Immediately (i preordered it) so i'll report back for it and once i finish providence girls, too.

Who's your favorite female character in BATIM? Also, what do you think about Audrey as a character (aside from the weird stuff about Joey and "you don't have to be like this" that you mentioned in that one post)? You draw her really well.
Aw, thank you! And MAN that’s a tough question……
Dot and Abby and Susie are my personal stack of favs. Dot’s probably the one where I like her personality as-written the most, since Abby I find difficult to summarise beyond “she’s gender” and loving her friendship with her besties in TIOL (and also getting my heart destroyed after seeing her and Joey interact in DCTL). Abby seems like a delight to interact with and I enjoy that she’s a little bit rude at heart but in a “omg its true but u shouldn’t say it lmao” sort of way, and I get the sense that she and Joey kind of enabled each other when they were younger. I’d love to hear more of her art opinions. I would say I’d get in a fight with her about Monet, but I don’t think she’d even give me the honour of an argument.
We as a fandom have spent a lot of time yelling about how Buddy is clearly autistic and I don’t think we spend NEAR enough time talking about how Dot is clearly autistic as well. I really like the contrast between the two of them through that lens; Buddy has never understood an unstated implication in his life and he’s not about to start now, but badly wants to interact the way he’s expected to, whereas Dot is incredibly intuitive, perceptive, and understands subtext but has no time for it frankly and would rather be direct than conventional. A day after meeting Buddy she’s explaining how conversations work and coaching Buddy on how to ask questions even when he’s being guided away from asking questions, which is definitely a normal way to converse. I love her so much.
Meanwhile Susie is so complicated by virtue of having almost no presence in the books – just the games, where her timeline is one of the most up in the air, her writing is hit or miss, and so so much of her personality is in the gaps between audiologs that, like most in-game BatIMs, means no two fandom Susies are the same. I find her really compelling, though, exploring the character to find that sweet spot between someone who is clearly very charming and cheerful and sweet and sympathetic, but also cruel enough to become Malice, entitled and demanding enough to not take “no” for an answer and to simply decide that Alice should get to be hers forever. I’ve said before that I like to imagine that’s what Sammy saw in her, someone who could somehow be simultaneously thoughtful and optimistic and ruthlessly ambitious. I think she’s neat, but also I love her best when she’s not just sweet and not just horrible.
Anyway, Audrey’s a fun character with a lot of pretty believable emotional responses; when scenes are taken individually, I like her. Grain of salt that I haven’t watched the whole game, I’ve just seen some big moments and cutscenes, SO I COULD BE WAY OFF HERE -- but from what I've seen, while it’s tempting to say she has more personality than her predecessor, I’d be hard-pressed to pin down exactly what that personality is.
I don’t think it was intentional, but Henry’s weary compartmentalisation soaked into every comment he made, even when the things he was saying were deliriously strange (“[survives a deadly supernatural ordeal] huh, looks like I need 3 gears here”). We all made headcanons about how he’s either tired from the loops or selectively mute or just trying not to think about the horrors, and it felt like it worked. But Audrey is tough to really pin down a motivating force for, as if she’s defined by static descriptors like “determined” and “kind” rather than any particular desire like “wants to help” or “wants to stay out of trouble” that might spur her to make decisions based on those desires. Her most consistent character trait is giving others the benefit of the doubt (and constantly getting burned for it) and her most reinforced motivation is that she just wants to not be in the confusing dangerous weird ink place, which, like, same! I WOULDNT WANT TO BE THERE EITHER
She sounds bitter when Joey compares her to a father she never knew, which is an expected and reasonable response on its own that feels right in the moment – but when we look at her timeline (or the Archive’s revelation that she repressed her memories of her father AFTER Joey’s death), it’s actually a sort of difficult reaction to make sense of. I feel like a lot of her reactions are like this, especially near the end; they’re not that weird in the moment, but it’s hard to get a sense of why she’s doing these things or what’s led her to the conclusions she comes to. She defends Wilson to Allison, but like… what led her to believe that he’s legit? We can fill in those blanks with headcanons, of course, but we don’t have strong clues. Is it her having sympathy for him now that she “knows” he’s trying to save his father, or does she think it’s her best shot to get out of here, or does she really believe Wilson is going to fix everything despite everything else she’s seen? Do her chat with Henry and the revelation that Baby Bendy and the Ink Demon are one and the same just not affect her decision-making at all here? Or is killing Baby Bendy just a sacrifice she’s immediately willing to make once she realises that? What ARE Audrey’s feelings on her father and at what point does she remember him? Audrey giving Allison her name is a nice subtle indication that she’s started to accept that Joey’s story might be true, which I genuinely like, but it’s weird that we see her doing that right before insisting that she’s gonna go off and hear Wilson out – we get this indication that she’s started believing Joey, but apparently not enough to decide to try to fix the cycle, not enough to put together that the “wicked creatures who never came from my pen” might be the Keepers that she knows answer directly to Wilson. She’s determined to help Wilson so that she can get out of there, and only after that extremely fails does she decide to try to fix the broken cycle. (Honestly, it would’ve been kinda neat if she HAD in fact been selfishly helping Wilson as a “well, sucks for you guys, but I gotta get home,” and then Joey’s insistence that we always have a chance to make a better choice would actually mean something and inform her decision to take the Reel as more than just “well I guess this is the option that I have left.”)
Anyway, DESPITE THIS CRITICAL PARAGRAPH this is all fine for a player character who basically just needs to go from task to task; I think she’s likeable and I enjoy her interactions. But it does feel like a lot of times she’s just doing the next thing she’s been handed, to me, and it’s harder to make that a part of her personality than it was for Henry. It’d be neat to see a little more of Joey in Joey Drew’s daughter.

1- aaah I have so many good Green Clothes and some of them are even made by dear friends so I CANNOT choose a favorite BUT I do have a Most Frequent and it's this shawl :
It was made by a weaver who works the renfair circuit with a wooden loom! I get to go see her every year and anyone can watch her working! I know where she got the yarn and everything and I do in fact love knowing how almost every step of the process went!
But also it's just a fantastic shawl, keeps me warm in the light-cool of spring and autumn and keeps the sun off my shoulders in summer. Heck, I wore it today (Texas. it was 72 F) and it was just the right Extra Warm over my sundress. And it goes with every dress I own! The joys of a chromatically unified wardrobe :D So: this!

More mundanely, I'd love to get a custom corset by someone local enough I can actually go to them for a fitting? I've had customs before but I've always had to do my own measurements etc and do it by mail and I am just NOT an expert, even with muslins. There's just no one close by who does what I want, a peril of living in the middle of nowhere. :/

I had many!! Part of why the current situation is so enduring is because it fused many of them into one.
But oh one that's stayed with me but I don't talk about much here is comics? Just. The art and structure of them! The potential! I kinda stopped talking about them in general spaces because STILL when I say " comics" people go " oh superheroes" and NO NOT SUPERHEROES THAT'S A GENRE, that's like hearing " books" and responding with " oh yeah, Harlequins" YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT LIKE TWO PUBLISHERS AGAINST A WHOLE MEDIUM , THEY MAY BE THE MOST POPULAR BUT THEY DO NOT GET TO DEFINE THE WHOLE FORM AAAAH

Choose between Jack watching Buffy with Cas or Cas reading him (insert your favorite books from childhood here)? Also, if you choose the latter, what was your favorite book or series as a kid?

So I think I’m going to go for the second one, because although obviously Buffy is great and everyone should watch it, I think some of the parallels between Jack and Buffy & Dawn and how much better they were treated might give him psychic damage (for example I once wrote my friend a buffynatural essay on the end of btvs s5 vs unity at 3am). Also, I’m not going to pass up an opportunity to talk about children’s books <3
In terms of the media they should consume, it’s not a book but I did write a very self indulgent post several months before I’d met Jack about how I thought he and Cas should watch Bagpuss. I’m not sure anymore whether it actually would fix them, but it is wonderful and they should watch it anyway.
Book-wise, I still as an adult insist that the Just William series is just objectively excellent comedic writing, so I’d like to think they could have a good time reading that – it’s glorious. Also as a bit of a rogue one, the lead character from Wintle’s Wonders by Noel Streatfield (now published as Dancing Shoes) is the only children’s book protagonist where I still think about them sometimes and go “godddd” (the ways in which she’s misunderstood by the adults around her but the narrative Gets It I remember finding quite gut-punchy), and I think Jack could get something out of that too.
(Also, I do have various thoughts about Jack and children’s books characters in general. He is Sara Crewe – in a post-canon scenario where Cas is still dead but Jack is living in the bunker, Jack would read A Little Princess and sob. Then also, more analytically, see this post and compare to eg Beth March, or other more watered-down examples of that archetype. Victorian perfect martyr child 😐 (which drives me up the wall conceptually, but which I do think is an interesting lens to view his writing through).)

I'm a fan of Shakespeare's play Richard III and reading your recent posts about him made me wonder two things :
- Is there any good book/essay you know of which studies the way he has been represented through time? You talked about how he was misrepresented as disabled, it matters quite heavily in the plays Richard III is in and his speeches so I'm actually fascinated to know how far that had gone and where that comes from (Shakespeare must not be the first to use that device for talking about that *character*? )
- which book would you recommend to get a better and nuanced grasp on Richard III and the entire political trouble of those times? Again, I'm entirely relying on contextual info I've found in my editions of Shakespeare's play... Which is unsurprisingly little in the matter of historical research.
But most importantly, whether you can answer those questions or not, I wish you a good end of 2021. I hope the very resentful anons with no grasp on history as a science will be cursed to dig holes until they find a trace of the Time Vessel that teleported every child staying in the tower of London to Neverland, because that's just how it works and anyone with a BA in History knows that duh ( <3 take care)
There is, as you might imagine, a comparatively vast literature on the topics of medieval disability studies, depictions of disability (specifically Richard III's disability) in Shakespeare and early modern drama, and how this has influenced academic studies of the historical figure. As far as we can tell, Richard did have some kind of physical disability -- a crooked shoulder, scoliosis, or similar -- but definitely not the monstrous hunchback that exists in the play. The question is then whether the character is portrayed in a way that equates his villainous inner nature with his physical deformity, or whether he subverts it and makes powerful use of it within an unrelentingly abled setting. After all, what does it mean to have a crippled king, when his physical body is supposed to metaphorically represent the realm?
As for sources, they obviously exist both in terms of analysing the Shakespearean character of Richard, and those who study the actual king. For this topic, I am cautious about recommending things that I haven't actually read (thanks to the Ricardians and the other conspiracy theorists, and the fact that the Tudor period has been picked to death by people who both are and are not qualified at all to write about it). However, I did a preliminary trawl for sources that might be useful for you, though unfortunately most of these aren't open-access and might require borrowing someone's university credentials:

Hey hey! I started watching Y Destiny, thank you for enabling with your diligence and commitment! I have a question though, a conversation did not make sense to me and I'm wondering if something got lost in translation. Episode 3, 41 minutes in. Sun is sitting on a bench and Nuea comes to ask to go shopping that night. He asks what Sun can do and Sun lists "just walk, no touch, no harassment". Then says he's still a virgin. Was there some word play or something that made him answer like that? What is happening?? Thanks, as always!
hi! awww, you're very welcome <3 honestly y destiny’s subs SUUUCK, I legit had to change a lot of sentences in my gifsets too bc even though they do get the message across they're often not very faithful to what's actually being said. so I've rewatched the scene & frankly first of all the joke is just very awkward & badly brought up imo, but basically since sun doesn't want to go with nuea to buy books, nuea offers to pay him for his wasted time. and basically the way they discuss it, with sun haggling the price, there is this undertone that they're talking about sun prostituting himself (he says "500 bahts, less than 2 hours") , which is a joke I've often seen in thai dramas (for example krathing in girl next room had a similar joke (way better imo though lol), here's my gifset of it.) but ANYWAYS then nuea asks "what can you do?" which is even more suggestive as you can imagine, and that's when sun puts a hard stop to the joke by saying "just walk, no touch, no harassment... I'm still a virgin." so here it doesn't even have to do with bad translation or a thai pun, it's just that frankly the joke is not very good lol

Check in on my (not very realistic) wish list for episode 135
1. The M9 eventually find a way to catch up with Lucien and Cree before they are able to go to the astral sea and at least start the combat (Bonus: Cree gets a wild magic effect that gives M9 some advantage or laughs).
Doesn’t look like it’s gonna happen. Well, I’m still personally REALLY happy that they all decided to explore a little bit much and ended up with combat lol. I love the heavy lore dump, reveals, map and the Aeorian nullifier/others combat, all part of the D&D fun.
2. Caleb and Beau somehow don’t get any extra eyes from their dreams (look, let me have some hope alright, last episode was kinda open-ended).
Noooo not on the clavicle and the palm... These stupid eyes are the reason why the empire siblings rolled bad rolls first thing in the morning, I’m telling you.
3. People on watch in the dome have some one-on-one conversations (Yasha and Fjord are doing the first watch, looking forward to it, also hoping for whoever on the second watch to talk).
Nope :( I’m a bit sad that they just kind of time skipped to the morning but it’s understandable.
4. If the empire siblings do get eyes can we at least have a morning eye check routine and Essek’s reaction to it? (Bonus: Essek examines the eye and offers help in some way)
I mean, we got part of a nice conversation about the eye so that counts as a reaction right. Essek is very wary about it, understandably. Don’t worry Essek, Fjord will take care of it if the eyes turn them evil.
5. More wild magic effects from casting in Aeor! Jester, Essek, Caleb, Caduceus, Veth and Fjord I’m looking at y’all. (Bonus: the effects are harmless and fun ones, like Bjald)
OH NO CALEB not first thing in the morning... wow never mind it’s a nice nostalgic smell! Apple tart, how awesome. I mean a lot of people used higher level magic and didn’t roll yet (or maybe they did we just don’t know)? This particular effect was harmless and fun tho.
6. They explore the Aeorian ruins even more along the way and discover cool relics/labs/history and lore (Bonus: clues related to the Eyes of Nine).
Ayyy genesis ward looks like a fun place, thanks to their high investigation rolls we found so much sweet lore. They also went into underground city ruins and basically wizard paradise lol. AND A BOOK ON THE SOMNOVEM! This is the first clue we have found so far. Also, Factorum Mollis project/Creator Hammer? Athodan’s rejuvenation/dunamancy? The plot thickens. THEY FOUND WHERE THEY NEED TO GO! B9!
7. Beau and Yasha have fun with some shameless PDA OR alternatively they get some super private time (bonus: cuddles in the dome).
I love their morning flirting. “That was amazing babe”, “Jump I’ll catch you!”, “Come here baby”, that’s some shameless PDA right there we love to see it. ALSO, Marisha said “we are doing PDA it’s a thing” and I feel so validated right now.

They didn’t heal each other/converse BUT they had some nice moments! Fjord holds Jester’s ankles and waist at her request, how cute!

10. They talk seriously OR laugh together about Bjald/smooth Fjord (Bonus: Veth disses Bjald just because) but Fjord eventually gets his hair back.
Wow straight out of the gate lol, Veth doesn’t wait (they are seriously expending spell slots for this). Also Veth cannot stop trying to grab his illusory hair. She also tells Devexian that Fjord is not a robot despite him not having hair I can’t even- Also, rejuvenation tube gave Bjald hair back and a long rest, great!
11. Continuing to hope for Caleb to polymorph into anything really, or using polymorph on any party member (polymorph! Caleb interactions my beloved).
Sparrow! Caleb my beloved! “I’m adorable” indeed, he totally is adorable. Landing on Jester, Fjord and Charlie must have been fun.
12. More moments of Essek’s trust issue (OR changes in his opinion) with Charlie and more moments of Charlie being helpful to the party.
Charlie was a very competent translator! Also, Essek does continue to have a lot of trust issues.
13. Jester and Charlie cute interactions OR Veth and Charlie interactions (Bonus: They reach the genesis ward to fix Charlie).
Charlie stopped listening when Jester asked him to, how cute! Veth also advocated for Charlie’s repair because she is already 100% attached - and they did fix Charlie I MEAN DEVEXIAN. Veth’s flirting with Devexian is... kinda cute? I guess?? Not sure how Devexian feels about it lol.
14. Cad attempting to speak with the dead on the remaining TT members (there is still Otis and Zoran right) and learning some useful information.
Well, speak with the dead was cast on the dead Aeorian warrior and some useful information was learned about the rejuvenation chamber I’d say. It was not cast on the TT members though.
15. Caleb casting fire spell challenge! I miss his signature fire magic that we have not seen in a long time, actually (Bonus: Essek is impressed).
Well fire bolt is a fire spell and actually does decent damage for a fire bolt.
16. Cad has a particularly badass moment in or out of combat (bonus: divine intervention success).
HOLY THAT BANISHMENT WAS SO BADASS, also that canceled nat 20 on Yasha. Wow Cad continues to be cool in battles, he is such a MVP!!
17. Veth has a particularly badass moment in or out of combat (bonus: HDYWTDT).
I mean all Veth’s sneak attacks are badass in my book.
18. The wizards nerd out about/investigate Aeorian magic together OR have another conversation (look, I love how they talk to each other okay).
WOW both happened! Essek stayed behind with Caleb in the record room and had a conversation to keep him on track. Right after, Caleb also reminded Essek of the same thing. Once again, I love how they talk to each other. Their dynamic is so fascinating. They also nerd out about/found dunamis (and a literal beacon piece) together in that chamber! That would make sense, time magic = rejuvenation and all that.
19. I know this is highly unlikely but I still kinda want to see the tower again with Essek getting a full tour! I want to see his room decor.
Nope, as expected lol. I don’t think we will see the tower until they deal with Lucien? We will see though, you never know.
20. We find out what exactly Capeleb/Caleb saw when Jester was casting commune/scry (it’s totally something Artagan-related, but what though?).
Nope, but it’s fine. It’s probably not urgent, otherwise Caleb would mention it.
21. Yasha pushes another red button and Beau enabling her out of love.
Yasha went “do it” as Fjord went in the tube lol so she was more of an enabler.
22. You know the drill by now - everyone remains relatively happy and alive by the end of the episode except Lucien and Cree (they can perish), and the episode ends on a terrifying cliffhanger as always.
Wow that episode was PACKED with so much information, I can’t even digest it all. Anyways, the score this time is 14/22, which is not bad at all.
Bonus:
Caleb shared half of his pearls with Essek! Also, wow that IS a beacon that they just found. The 3 magic users showboating each other at the end I can’t lmao I love them.
I just love all the noises of the Aeorian Nullifier, thank you Matt.
Jester, for that wand of smiles move, I love you even more (also she was the only one who actually tried to keep the party on task lol).
This episode will certainly need some re-watching to process all the information... but wow what an experience! Loving everything, as always. I cannot wait for next Thursday!

Part 1 Part 2 Part 3
Okay!! So the title of this AU is from The Archer by Taylor Swift. It contains Daminette, but the beginning starts off more sibling Jasonette-centered.
I’m splitting this into multiple parts; this one will just set the scene for the next parts and discuss the background before the plot actually starts.
Jason and Marinette:
Marinette met Jason when she was 13
He was introduced as Gina’s motorcycling buddy
They clicked right away and decided to stay in contact
Jason knew when she became Ladybug, and revealed himself as Red Hood
Being Gotham, he couldn’t do much, but he discreetly trained her through video calls and such
This pretty much sums up their relationship
Heroes and Villains:
Ladybug and Chat Noir defeated Hawkmoth a month before her 16th birthday
Her class had long turned on her thanks to Lila, but on the bright side, the liar had been exposed as an accomplice of Hawkmoth and was in jail alongside Gabriel and Nathalie
Her school and teachers were under investigation for enabling Lila’s lies and bullying as well as sheer incompetence
Just when she thought Chat Noir was done with flirting due to the lull in puns and confessions after the Heart Hunter akuma, it came back full force one day and only seemed to get worse despite her protests
Adrien revealed himself to the authorities as Chat Noir to prove his innocence
He confessed his love to Ladybug, saying that since Hawkmoth was gone they could finally be together
If the reveal had happened last year, maybe she would have agreed
But Jason had taught her better; that Chat’s behavior was harassment and she couldn’t just brush that aside
She said as much, but he insisted that “We’re meant to be together! You’re the only one who doesn’t see it!”
She was shocked that this was who she was in love with for so long
Marinette wasn’t a consolation prize; she wouldn’t stand for this kind of treatment any longer
She knew he was likely distressed because of his father and told him she would give him one more chance
He could either get help for himself—research harassment, start therapy—or she would take the ring
Her seriousness seemed to sober him, so he reluctantly agreed
Marinette:
Marinette cut her losses with her friends the moment they turned on her
She didn’t blame Adrien for not helping her in fear of upsetting his father, but she was a little disappointed
She was still friends with Luka and Kagami, though
Now that she wasn’t swamped with helping her friends babysit or doing them favors or hanging out with them, she used the time to double down on her fashion design
She started MDC and used her connections with Audrey Bourgeois, Jagged Stone and Clara Nightingale to her advantage and to expand her clientele
She worked with Jason to take down Hawkmoth
Marinette took a month after the villain’s downfall to testify against Lila and make plans
She was itching to go visit Jason but knew she needed to be patient
She had already planned on moving to Gotham once Hawkmoth was defeated, so all she needed was to tie up some loose ends
Nothing really compelled her to stay, and Jason was the only family she really needed
It’s not that her parents were bad per se; just a bit neglectful
They trusted her enough to let her take care of herself and treat her like an adult, but apparently not with the bakery or anything important to them unless it was necessary
They didn’t seem too concerned about the idea her living in an entirely different country on her own; they absently noted that they trusted her
Marinette talked to Jagged about living in Gotham since that was his birth place and managed to get a nice apartment—”For my favorite niece!” he said
Once she finished making arrangements and booking a plane, she called Jason to tell him the news
He had no idea she was planning on moving since she made a point to very carefully keep it a suprise
He cursed up a storm of excitement and started talking about what they could do together
And then he got an idea
“Hey! You know that stupid gala I was telling you about last time? You should come with me and meet my family!”
Her flight was in a week, and the Wayne Gala was in two, so making outfits would be almost impossible
But Marinette was never one for the impossible anyways
Next up: Marinette meets the Batfam at the Wayne Gala!

And if you aren’t really up for it, he doesn’t mind either. The two of you can be content with just an occasional wave and small talk with the neighbor when you chance upon meeting them. If you’re really eager to reach out to the neighbors… cool. He’ll come with and greet them if you want him to.
who remembers to buy healthy food
Lucifer cares a lot about the fact you get your proper nutrients, especially when you don’t.
“MC, you can’t persist on cup noodles every night when I come home late.” Insists on buying vegetables so you can at least put them in your ramen to get vitamins to live if you don’t want to cook. He makes it a habit to have a balanced meal every time.
If you’re as health conscious as he is, you make sure to pack lunch for the both of you before you go about your day. :)
who remembers to buy junk food
YOU DO, BABY!
Every time you go shopping for groceries with him, you both pick out produce and everything you need for meal preps, but you always backtrack to grab bags of chips or candy that catches your attention. He watches you with mild exasperation as you scrutinize whether to grab the salsa or the guacamole for the chips and end up just getting both.
He grumbles a little less if you slip in a bag of his favorite snack though. (A bag of licorice mayhaps?)
who fixes the oven when it breaks
Both of you are capable of learning how to fix the oven when it breaks. It probably does end up being a joint effort regardless. As to whoever BROKE the oven, it’s probably Lucifer. Baking is his weakness; he doesn’t understand why.
who waters the plants/feeds their pet(s)
You water the plants and Lucifer feeds the pet(s). You will always have Cerberus-- always. Whether you have more is really up to your and his discretion, but he’s pretty on top of making sure Cerberus has his food every morning before he leaves. He could water the plants too, if you wanted him to, but he thinks it’s cute to come home to you watering the hydrangeas at the front door or the succulents at the windowsill. It gives you a very nurturing vibe, even if you don’t mean to, and it makes him feel a little soft every time.
who wakes up earlier
Lucifer does. This really depends on what job/occupation you currently have, but for the most part, he wakes up at the crack of dawn naturally anyways. Doesn’t matter when he sleeps, his internal clock is set for ‘when the sun rises’ (which is funny, considering how the Devildom doesn’t have a sun).
You think it’s horrible until you realize he can choose to sleep in when he wants to, but Lucifer honestly doesn’t mind. He likes waking up early so he can press kisses onto your forehead, careful not to wake you up but laughing under his breath if you stir and mumble in your sleep. He’s absolutely besotted with you, and it really shows in the way he holds you in the moments before he starts the day.
who makes the bed
You do, mostly because you wake up later than he does… and because he doesn’t like it when the bed isn’t made.
“Why make the bed when we’re going to end up sleeping in it anyways?”
“Yes, why wash Cerberus if he’s going to get dirty again.”

Just make the bed. He’s ridiculously pleased when he comes back home to a neat bed, especially if you were not in the habit to do so before. If you weren’t really happy to do it before, he says “please~?” in a way you swear you fucking see sparkles in the background and you give up. (you are weak for the man)
who makes the coffee
(flashback to Hell’s Coffee chat)
Lucifer lives off of coffee, so more often than not, he ends up making the coffee. He also tends to wake up a LOT earlier than you, so the duty usually falls to him anyhow. If you drink coffee, always makes a cup for you before he leaves with the right amount of sugar and cream.
On the day you’re both off, you tend to both sleep in, and therein the coffee making responsibility goes to you, because Lucifer certainly isn’t going to get out of bed any time soon. You tried making coffee for him on a work day, which basically meant you tried to wake up EARLIER than him. Not the best idea you had, but when he found you asleep on the dining table with the coffee made hot, best believe he pressed a kiss onto your forehead and said ‘thank you’ before sending you back to bed.
who burns breakfast
Assuming both of you are decent at cooking, you’re more likely to burn the breakfast mainly because Lucifer doesn’t eat breakfast to begin with.
“What happened to three balanced meals a day?”
“I never said ‘three,’ I just said they had to be balanced.”

It’s his fault though. Every time you make breakfast, he distracts you by coming into the kitchen and wrapping his arms around you and pressing a kiss on the back of your neck. Or, if it’s on a weekend, he tugs you back into bed and you forget about the bacon on the stove until it’s basically charcoal.
how do they let each other know they’re leaving the house
Lucifer tries not to wake you up before you need to, so he’s usually silent when leaving the house. When you do stir awake and sleepily ask him if he’s heading off to work, he never fails to press a kiss to your cheek and say, “I’ll see you soon.” He’s always the most tender with you in the early light of the day, willing to indulge you a little if you tug him back into bed for a snuggle or press kisses onto your lips until you’re satiated.
If the both of you are awake, he’ll say something along the lines of “I’m heading out to do something. I’ll be back in an hour,” and if you’re not busy, kisses you and leaves.
how do they greet each other when one of them gets home
“I’m home,” Lucifer says quietly, just in case you’re already asleep-- but you never are. He finds the kitchen light on with you sitting at the dining table with a book in hand, and you smile up at him when he walks through the door and places down his keys.
“Welcome back,” you tell him, like every night. You tug off his jacket and press a kiss onto his lips as he tiredly gives you a smile.

Rarely, you come home later than he does, but it happens.
“Did you eat dinner yet?” Lucifer asks, once you set down the keys and shrug off your coat. “Or would you prefer a bath first?”
“Did you learn that phrase from Levi?” You tease, watching him roll his eyes good naturedly as he stands from his chair and makes his way to you. “I don’t know,” you respond, as he snakes his hands around your waist. “Maybe a bath if you want to join me.”
His hands dip further down. “If you insist,” he says, dropping his head until he trails his lips along your neck.
The both of you pause at the sound of your stomach growling.
You look sheepishly at him as he gives you an amused quip of his lips. “Maybe…” You suggest hopefully, “Dinner in the bath?”
Lucifer throws his head back and laughs.
who brings home little gifts like flowers/chocolates more often
With Lucifer, romance is never dead. If something catches his eye on the way back from work, he has no problems taking a quick stop and buying a bouquet from the florist so you can decorate the house with it or add another succulent to your collection. His gifts always mean he thought of you-- would you like this necklace? Didn’t you say you needed another pen the other day? How much chocolate is too much for a gift? (it’s never too much luci)
However, you refuse to be beat. You throw him a reverse uno card and buy him small gifts or trinkets that catch your eye and think he’d enjoy it. There’s not a lot he actually wants, so your gifts are more fun, something to make him laugh throughout the day or remind him of you. He brings a lot of the trinkets to work with him and look at them
who picks the movie for movie night
Both of you switch off on choosing a movie. He’s not that picky with movies. If it’s horror movies you want to watch, he’ll be there for you to hide behind. If it’s a rom-com you want to watch, expect a few chuckles from him.
their favorite kind of movie to watch
Lucifer likes watching the classics and prefers new movies that are thought-provoking. Thrillers or psychological movies like Black Mirror or Annihilation are very fascinating to him. He’s impartial to most genres, though, unless it’s completely and utterly inane. He prefers movies with some thought or some emotion-evoking aspect to it-- SUBSTANCE.
who first suggests a pillow fort + who builds the pillow fort
You suggest it and drag Lucifer into building the pillow fort with you. He thinks he enables you too much; you agree with him.
“Who did you get this idea from? Mammon?”
“No, of course not! I got it from my six-year old niece.”
“...”
Still, you end up in the pillow fort, covering it with a blanket and end up eating snacks and napping together in it.
You don’t see him complaining about it afterwards.
who tries to distract the other during the move
Lucifer allllll the way. The man loves to tease you whenever he has the chance, so if he’s in the mood, would definitely try to distract you by placing his hand on your thigh and just subtly tracing his hands over them. Acts innocent when you scold him, but continues to do lingering touches on your thighs, waist, neck until you either give in and be completely distracted by him. He knows when to stop though, like if you’re actually very interested in the movie or aren’t in the mood.
who falls asleep first
Lucifer does if the both of you go to bed at the same time. Tired during the day, he knocks out pretty much immediately if he lets himself relax in your arms and in your presence. Which is fine by you. If Lucifer had a ritual to take a moment to cherish you in the early hours of the day, you take the time in the moments before you sleep to kiss his brow and sweep his hair from his eyes, whispering ‘I love you’s’ against his temple in the quiet hours of the night.
who is big spoon/little spoon
Lucifer likes being a big spoon, of course, but you ALSO like being HIS big spoon, so it’s a trade-off. You enjoy being in his arms and being the little spoon: you feel protected, his arms around you, his head either on top of your or his nose buried in your hair. Being a big spoon lets YOU do that to him!
Usually, you sleep on his shoulder, or you sleep facing each other. You really let the night decide whether you end up big or small spoon, but you tend to end up small spoon naturally. Sometimes, when you wake up in the middle of night, you turn to make him big spoon, and he gets a little embarrassed when he wakes up like this (but again, no complaints here! <3).

WIP Wednesday <3
Thank you @takitalks and @captain-aralias for the tag and for being my enablers. Let's talk feelings, baby! (Baz's pov)
His gentle breath on my neck threatens to burn me like an open flame, somehow, I shiver anyway. Call it biology, call it lust, but my body yearns to be his and I can’t stop myself from turning my head to give him more access. Whatever he wants. He trails his nose on my skin, soft and reverent. He’s treating me like I’m made of glass simply because I’ve asked him to. Most alphas were taught to control, but Simon only wants to protect. There’s a reason I’ve been keeping him at arm’s length. Simon Snow is so easy to love. Too easy to love. The more time I spend with him, the less certain I am about ever getting over his sunny smile and freckled skin. I don’t ever want to breathe the air that doesn’t contain his salt and milk scent. I know he wants me. I know he has no malicious bone in his body and he displays every single emotion like an open book. I know wants me entirely, sincerely. Madly.
The truth is, Simon could want me with the passion and intensity of ten thousand burning stars and it would still only be a fraction of what I feel for him. He’s been infatuated for a few weeks.
But I’ve been his for two years.

November, December and January were the worst months of my life that started out as the best months of my life. I am better, but I’m still not okay.
CW: death (not mine), medical stuff (no gore), emergency room experience
The first week of November was the election we’d been building up to, frankly, 4 years. I was basically eating, sleeping, breathing work from mid-August until the election, and then for several days after until we got the result that we wanted.
The second week in November, I found out I was pregnant. We were shocked and thrilled. (It was intentional but it was still, like, surprising that it actually worked???)
Turn back now because it only gets worse from here.
The third week in November, I find out I’m getting laid off. I was given a lot of reasons, none of which made sense, but basically a casualty of office politics way over my head. I was told that it wasn’t performance related, but it still felt brutal to have to do this after pouring myself into work. I’ve been laid off before, and it’s always a cold experience. You remember that your company only cares about you to a degree, and at the end of the day, they will always protect themselves and not you. I personally don’t understand why you would replace a professional with two part-time dilettantes on your public facing communications BUT ANYWAY!
I was asked to stay through the beginning of January and I accepted.
The fourth week in November was Thanksgiving. We were home about to make dinner for 2 (COVID). During the day, I started to feel sick and crampy. I called the urgent care nurse line and they told me to go to the ER. I live very close to a hospital, so I literally packed my biggest warmest sweatshirt and a book and walked there, leaving my spouse and the turkey still in the oven (luckily that was his purview anyway).
The ER was, surprisingly, very quiet. I was there for about 4 hours while they ran various tests on me. (They had to call a specialist in from their Thanksgiving dinner, which I felt terrible about.) Ultimately, they could not determine whether I had miscarried or not, so they sent me home with instructions to take it easy and to go in for more testing.
In December I had a doctor’s appointment where they confirmed that I was not pregnant any more. (The tech was very cold and impersonal… I was crying on the ultrasound table. I know that it was so early, but I was crying for myself and my spouse and the dreams we had invested that never came to be. I was sad because this was our first time, and it was so terrible, and we won’t ever have a first one.)
They flagged something in my blood tests that was troubling, so they ordered regular testing. I was going in about 3 times a week for blood draws. Luckily I’m not scared of needles so it was more annoying than anything.
I was also applying to and interviewing for jobs (without success) and also still working at my job where I felt literally invisible. It was a really dark time. I don’t know how else to describe it. I don’t know how I got out of bed every day. It felt like everything in my life had just collapsed at once. I didn’t feel unwell, but it was just like a big weight dragging me down all the time.
In the 3rd week of December, I had another ultrasound and then met with a new to me doctor, I’ll call her Dr. S. I had been going along with all the additional bloodwork, but I was starting to push back on why it was necessary.
It was a Friday afternoon when Dr. S met with me and said: We think that you have an ectopic pregnancy. I didn’t know, but I would soon learn that this was a pregnancy that was not in the right place, would not grow, but could rupture and kill me. She recommended surgery to address it.
Okay, I said. I had the next week off, so I assumed it would be either that week, or in January while I was funemployed (but still had my good health insurance).
I was thinking this weekend, said Dr. S.
So it was that I went to a Friday doctor’s appointment and found myself signing into surgery on Saturday morning.
It was my first ever surgery with anesthesia, and everyone took great care of me, but it was still EXTREMELY disconcerting. I had laparoscopic surgery so I only have 2 teeny scars, but I was in a lot of pain and confused when I woke up.
Work was closed all week, so I basically spent the whole week sitting in 1 chair in my apartment either watching movies or reading. I didn’t want to get into all the details with people, because a) 2020 was already so… 2020, b) I was still nominally job-hunting and I didn’t want to give anyone a dumb surface reason not to hire me or make them think I was a pregnancy flight risk (I love being a woman of a certain age!), c) I just didn’t want to talk about it. On the other hand, almost no one at work checked on me. I found their treatment very cold, again.
In January I put myself together for my last week at work, we had the runoff elections, we had the coup. I had my surgery follow-up where it was confirmed that it was an ectopic pregnancy. That was my January: medical follow-ups, but at least I don’t have to schedule them around the job I no longer have!
WHEW. If you’ve gotten this far, thank you for hearing me. I have since gotten a new job working on communications for politics, but also nonprofits and city agencies. My stress has been cut by probably 70 percent. In my job I’m doing a lot more writing, which is probably what enabled me to write this long overdue update with most of everything in it.
We are starting to explore our fertility options. I had a doctor that really catastrophized me in terms of how intense we need to go about it, but likely we will start slowly and see how it goes. They still don’t know why I had an ectopic (and probably won’t figure out), but I am at higher risk of having another one, so any potential pregnancy will involve a lot of testing and monitoring. That’s why we haven’t “started” “trying” again, because there are tests and there is my new job and so on. I had a hysterosalpingogram, which you should definitely Google if you’re not squeamish. (It didn’t hurt but it was totally weird!)
I am better, but I’m not OK. I’m still mad about everything that happened to me. There are moments when I get catapulted back to my surgery and everything, and I completely freeze. I just got my doctors’ records from November and December (which I had to pay $35 for!!! MY OWN RECORDS) and even though I didn’t learn anything new from reading those records, I still had a lot of emotional trouble processing what happened. It’s weird that so many of them start by noting that the patient was “not in acute distress.” Must be an automatic fill-in because that doesn’t match what I was feeling ever!!!
Dr. S literally saved my life and I think what was not clear to me at the time, because I was still mourning what could have been, is that I am still here. I am more than everything that happened to me.
I am looking for a new therapist and I am trying to look on the bright side. Unfortunately, one of my oldest friends in the world endured a similar health issue back in January; fortunately, we are each other’s best comfort because I know she won’t judge me. This summer may bring good news on this front or maybe not, but at least vaccinated we can do more than we have been able to do (picnics in the park! Visits to family!) I have to believe my luck is turning. It’s how I get by.

We’ve definitely got some major angst coming in N’s route. I’ve been thinking about this more and more lately. For how open N is about their feelings for the detective, they really aren’t open about... anything else.
Their previous relationships ended because they weren’t giving it their all. Mishka has said that the deeper parts of their past is something they don’t discuss even with the rest of UB, and that they’re big on sharing and talking about feelings and having things out in the open... when it comes to other people. And then, well, there’s that heartbreaking gif with the cracked face under the mask.
N is a lovely, wonderful, caring person. (Someone who consciously chooses to be that way, and I think that’s important). But they also have some serious emotional walls up. And I think we’re going to start seeing them now that the detective is in a relationship with them. I’m sure N will want to bring down those walls with the detective as well (it’s not like A, where they’re just fighting to keep them up) but it’s going to be painful for them and going to uncover a lot of things.
This isn’t even going into the whole tier X and blood issues that they have, or why Rebecca is worried about them dating the mc, or so many things—again, there is so much about N that is just pure mystery and it’s anyone’s guess what all that is really about.
Gonna add a cut here for some Book 3 demo discussion, in case that’s something you’d like to avoid!
I’m also still stuck on how N avoids kissing the detective’s neck in the demo and how the narration makes a point of commenting on it. I think I’ve talked about this before but I really don’t think it has to do with N thinking they won’t be able to control themselves—it’s more about the temptation of it being there in the first place, and that’s a different and very interesting thing. N’s relationship with their vampirism and with humanity is such a wonderful source of angst and I just can’t wait to go deeper into it.

Its ya girl, the library Customer serv. rep. back in business after 4 months of furlough. They got me pretty much on my ass answering emails which I dont know yet is better or worse than answering phones. We'll see. I will say, people somehow manage to be just as rude or even more rude over email than I thought possible. But maybe that's just me cuz I start off every email with "so sorry to bother" but anyways. Let's roll. (Want to preface this with library is closed, we're doing curbside only but the public is absolutely not allowed in)
1)A lady sends an email with the subject "mail new card". No explanation, no body text, nothin. I email back basically "I'm happy to help but need more information thanks" and they send back that they want a new card mailed to them for reasons. We dont mail out cards, theres no budget for postage or anything of the sort. I try to be as nice as possible and say I can set them up with an ecard for online material because of reasons stated above and I get no response. 3 hours later a coworker calls me saying someone called the main line absolutely livid that we weren't sending cards and wanted to complain about blah blah blah, and she called me since my name is on the bottom of the email (per policy, we gotta have our names signed on our work emails, ya know?). So I'm like "ok? Was there something unclear?" And my crazy little coworker goes "no, but she wants to talk to you specifically so can I transfer over?"
...Girl?????? NO???? She already yelled at you, give her to a manger, I'm not gonna have her yell at me over it. The fuck? Besides, shes gonna end up wanting to speak with a manager anyways cuz shes gonna try and get me in trouble. Let her waste someone else's time.
2)This next one was an email that basically bitching about us being closed. It was a whole 2 paragraph thing explaining that we should be more than able to reopen if we did x, y, z and had more hand sanitizer stations and handed out masks and gloves and so on and so forth. "In order to check out books for kids we NEED to browse them first to make sure they're appropriate" was a line in there. And listen. I get it. People are bored, tired, and want to be able to do things. But the world is a different place than it was in february. I wanted to respond back to her with a link talking about the city budget shortfall and how public works lost so much funding that it cut over half of the staff working in each department. The library lost half of its staff, closed 1/3 of its locations, and now has to compete with other city departments for sanitation stuff just for staff to use. This was big news when it happened in the city! Why you gotta be an asshole? We literally cant afford to do any of the things that would enable us to have the public inside. Fuckers.
3)A lady complained about a book she wanted but we didnt have available as an ebook and I had to explain to her that the book doesnt even have an ebook version published because of its formatting. She was rude and condescending the whole way through that.
4)And people were complaining that books they dropped off at locations that are not open havent been checked in. I'm sorry, where did you leave the books? I was personally responsible for literally locking, taping, and stuffing cardboard in each of those locations' dropboxes so that they couldn't leave things back in March. There are signs saying that the drop box is closed and have been for months. "Oh there was a stack of books by the doors" you absolute shitstains. I have the incredible pleasure of informing people that they havent been checked in and wont be checked in because there are absolutely no staff to go and do that. There are signs. They're neon. They're in 2 languages. Theres 2 on each door and on a couple of windows and on the walls by the staff door. You stupid, dumb, inconsiderate fucking morons cant be bothered to read them though. I hope you rot.
It was a bit, sorry about that. Hope things get better lovelies, but america is an absolute hell hole right now. To my retail people: yall are far better people than I ever could be, but it's not fair that a lot of you get treated like dirt. Before covid, but especially now, when people rely on you for the most basic and essential of things. To my restaurant folk? Godspeed. Having to be forced to work to put money on the table for you and your families? During this??

I don’t think there’s much wrong with liking the design itself; I prefer Riposte personally, but that’s just me.
The best way I could put the “insensitive” part (I’m sort of dumb when it comes to this stuff and I talked about it before when I was working on that 3D model of Marinette) is that it’s so heavy on Japanese. I mean, they already have Kagami constantly wear what looks like a school uniform and Tomoe is just like--super heavy Japanese. It’s like the show doesn’t know how to balance “can’t tell at all” (with Marinette) and then “okay this is WAY strong” (with Kagami+Tomoe+Kung Food).
That makes sense! I guess the only problem then would be that the kwami can’t really act as mentors of any kind because “you’re saying this just because that’s all you can say” (like Sass, hypothetically, always willing to give someone a second chance, no matter what; I know that’s not what his power specifically entails but it’s just an example).
I would however definitely lean towards kwami being very strict in one alignment, so Tikki would always be on the path of pure good and thus never want to take/steal/whatever, whereas Plagg is always on the path of “bad,” but there are times where Marinette will have to ignore Tikki while Adrien will have to listen to Plagg.
And yeah, the guardians existing and the kwami not having so much control... not a huge fan.
Someone asked about Chat Noir’s flirting and he claimed that it was “on purpose” (you know, while throwing episodes like “Felix” at us but okay) and then he followed up with this:

Yes, constructive criticism is mainly for seeing a product improve, but that doesn’t mean ignoring it because, “well you haven’t seen the full product.”

Ignoring the fact that a movie/printed book is usually a “full product,” criticism is also to say “you did this thing wrong, don’t do this in the future.” It doesn’t have to be referring strictly to the show. It’s just, “you did this thing wrong and here’s why, try to catch yourself if you accidentally do it again in the future, whether in what you’re working on now or otherwise.”
(He’s also talked about “unsolicited critique” before and I don’t know what that means? Like, dude, this isn’t someone’s fanfiction where I’d actually agree that you can’t go after them for their work. This is professional work.)
Anyway, remember “Chameleon”? When everyone saw the trailer and absolutely flipped out over it, then there were people who were like, “Wait for the full episode!!”?
Guess what? The full episode came out and people were either just as mad or even madder than before.
Astruc wants to have his cake and eat it to. He wants to say that his episodes are “stand-alone,” and that the order isn’t that important, but when people start pointing out issues, it becomes, “No! You have to wait for the rest of the episodes to come out!” and when people do that, it’s gonna be like, “Well, we already did the whole show so it’s not like I can change anything. *shrug*”
Also, just blaming it on “the industry” when everything else has been exhausted:

I think the reason people see it the way they do is because of Fu’s line in “Robostus” seems to imply the exact opposite thing happening.

Marigami is acceptable. I’m not crazy about it but it’s likable enough.
Lukadrien though... no, absolutely not. On a conceptual level, because it’s such a slap in the face for Marinette, and on a fanon level, because most of the jokes around it is Luka going to Marinette like he’s about to ask her out and then just asks for Adrien’s details. It’s just... ugh. I hate it (throwing Marinette into the ship still doesn’t help for me though because I’m not into the love square).
Bi erasure is my least favorite thing.
And yeah, it’s like--they set the love square ship(s?) out onto the water, then the Lukanette ship later with the plan to either sink it or just kinda... return it to the harbor if they don’t make a huge fuss about it?
Meanwhile, the love square ship has been in piece this whole time, and instead of letting it sink, they put it on a raft to keep it floating.

That’s accurate. I dislike about a fourth-ish of Season 1,then about half-ish of Season 2, then like... almost all of Season 3.
So we’ll just have to see what happens in Season 4.
I like Adrimi, but I’m not crazy about it and I don’t really write for it unless Lukanette is already the main ship (making Adrimi just a background ship). Adrien tends to dismiss Kagami a lot (like in “Frozer” and then “Miracle Queen” with him not committing) and I don’t want to see Kagami hurting like that (I agree with the anon completely that Adrien is more at fault than she is). They’re both emotionally-stunted so I usually have them wait it out or something to have them get together.
My ideal endgame is Lukanette while Adrimi is more like “let’s wait, let’s work on ourselves (especially Adrien; Kagami at least has on firm crush and wants to commit to it), and we’ll see where we go down the line.”
I don’t know if they really have the guts to arrest Gabriel. I also think that Lila might pick up the butterfly at the end of Season 5 or something after she’s been “dealt with.”
Chloe also is the mayor’s daughter so even if the law was that strict on teens, nothing would happen to her unless Andre got replaced.

Maybe that the thing forcing Marinette away from Adrien and causing things to go wrong is the part of the curse trying to prevent the ladybug and cat miraculous from coming together?

I’m 100% sure that Marinette wouldn’t be as uncomfortable around Adrien if Alya hadn’t constantly intervened. She’s the enabler of both Marinette’s anxiety and her crush on Adrien.
I went back and looked at the scene and it does kinda look like it, yes, because it basically goes from the intersection Marinette is in to another intersection that looks very, extremely similar and I don’t see Marinette in that intersection.
It was just a really, really bad transition. I remember being thrown off for a second too so I don’t blame you, anon.
I think Bob Roth’s intent was to scare Marinette away from showing that proof? He probably knows very well that Marinette has all the evidence she needs to make a case and already had a story planned for the press about how “the young talents they found didn’t measure up and the people deserved better.”
He just needed enough pressure on them for them to believe that he had enough authority to silence them.
And then Silencer tried to silence him instead. :3
I don’t think Marinette’s relationship with her parents would change too much. Like, they already let her just go out whenever she wants which obviously Plagg approves off, although Marinette might become more numb to the idea of being grounded because Plagg just teaches her, “hey lol Ladybug isn’t grounded tho,” so Marinette sneaks out all the time.
Yeah, Tikki would probably justify Gabriel’s behavior, and she wouldn’t really be able to get on his case for flirting as Mister Bug because she’s not aware of it.

Adrien overall and then honorable mention to Alya for Winny’s comment about her being Marinette’s conscience (which is probably why they almost never nail Alya for stuff she does).

And ugh, the absolute level of bias in that. Even if the video was made in, like, Season 2 (don’t know, didn’t see it), Season 2 still gives examples of why Adrienette isn’t making Marinette happy at all (and has some of the love square failings too).
The name and the fact that they gave it that name tells me everything I need to know.

Yeah, people can talk about character’s flaws. I mean, we talk a lot here about Marinette’s struggles in getting over Adrien (partly brought on by a lot of outside factors but still).
Also, sure, Luka is a “pushover” because he’s one of the few characters who understands Marinette’s tunnel vision and isn’t bothered by it, okay. :P (Interesting that the topic of Chat’s entitlement towards Ladybug but Luka respecting her choices and just enjoying being around her makes him her punching bag).
Every time I hear, “Adrien needs more spotlight!!!” I lose a part of my soul. How people can’t see that Marinette is the show’s true punching bag is beyond me.

first because this is the easy response: how did u get interested in pirate history????
short answer: keira knightley in pirates of the caribbean BYE 💀
long answer: it’s basically a mix of those movies being a centerpiece of my childhood and me just thinking pirates are cool SKJSKAj i’m very much into history n my uni had a course on ‘history of pirates’ last spring so i took it as smth to do during quarantine and i ended up really loving it !!! i’m actually workin on historical fiction short story abt anne bonny and mary read rn which required me to do a lot more research on pirates (under the black flag by david cordingly is a very good book on piracy!) and my research has been very interesting just in general and for writing the odyssey – i've incorporated little historical tidbits here n there to add to the world-building :’)
next: ur writing process
ok so let’s go cray besties i’m going to tell u abt the life of adele writing the odyssey!!!! i’ll try talking abt this in some semblance of a logical step-by-step
1. manifesting vibes + outline
i talked abt this last time but manifesting the vibes is very important ! the first things i like to do when getting ready to write a new chapter is define the setting – place(s), weather, time, and general mood
while i have a pretty good idea of how many chapters it will be and where the odyssey ends, i usually don’t plan a chapter in super great detail until it’s time to sit down n write it. i have general points of people to include + things that would be important to the plot + vibes i hope to include (parts 6 and 7 r gonna SLAP!!), but these never get fleshed out until it’s Time. my outlines are therefore usually not very detailed because i like to give the odyssey room to do its own thing – i find it important that the story takes its time and we get to the important stuff whenever it wants us to. an outline will usually b something like, in the case of the furies call part 2:
find megumi, talk abt his role in the zenin clan – naoya arrives on shore and shit hits the fan – run to find mai, maki fights her father – fight between naoya and todou – todou dies because you can’t kill naoya – sukuna rescues reader and it ends
after i have smth that looks like this as well as a decently clear idea of how everything will look and feel we get started!!
2. writing (pain)
arguably the worst stage for any creator! writing! at this point i genuinely just let go and let god tbh. i have no idea how i do things at this stage other than see how many commas + dumb poetic phrases i can include SKKSJKA – sometimes things just happen and it’s really cool!! for example in part 4 i didn’t know the guns warehouse was going to blow up until i was writing it and it just happened
i do have a set quota of words i meet every time i sit down to write so that i A. feel accomplished and happy when i'm done, even if it sucks and B. don’t get burnout and start hating what i do. this stage is always difficult because writing is just hard and takes a lot of brainpower and self-discipline </3
i wld say the hardest part is that i run the risk of getting very overwhelmed – by the complexities of the plot, by how fucking long it takes me to write, by how much work writing itself is ! for example, abt 7k or so into part 5 i started having the worst existential dread when i realized that this chapter was not even halfway done and i wld have to surpass 15k before it was (at the time of writing this, part 5 is 16.3 💀) it just gets hard sometimes to overcome that and maintain the motivation to keep going and know that everything will be fine when it’s done – thankfully everyone here is so patient and sweet so it makes me feel better when i'm taking forever and/or need time off <333
basically, as always, the pain of writing is just having to write and come to terms with the fact no one else is going to manifest it for u. and have fun too!! writing is only fun when ur writing what u think is cool
3. revision (less pain)
one of the fun stages, but also the point when i start to become impatient! writing an odyssey chapter can easily take 2.5-3 weeks even if i'm writing my quota every single day (part 5 took roughly 3 weeks of writing every god damn afternoon) and after that i spend another few weeks just going back and rereading/fixing everything.
i basically start by rereading sections of the chapter to change sentence structure, grammar, dialogue, or whatever else i don’t like – sometimes sentences sound stupid or certain things don’t make a whole lot of sense so i like to go back and polish up! for example i changed the arrival of maki/mai/nobara in furies call part 1 about ten times before i decided it made sense to me
this step can be horrendous because i'll often write things really shitty in the first draft with a “i’ll come back to this later” mindset and then get mad at myself later for being a hoe <//3
in essence, i'm a horrible perfectionist so i will usually reread everything and change or add things multiple times before i think i'm finally ready to share. most of the time, as the chapter gets closer and closer to completion i become more and more hyper-fixated on it – i’ll start spending almost all of my free time just rereading and looking for minor fixes or places that don’t vibe as well.
at the end of this step, my favorite thing to do before i queue the chapter up to post is sit down and just read the entire thing once or twice and give it one last kiss before i send her off into the world <3
so anyway there’s my ted talk of how i usually make the odyssey ! i vibe, write, revise n take forever to do all three steps but that’s just part of the fun! thank u for tuning in if u have any other questions u wld like me to overshare on i am more than happy to talk abt it :’)

A/N: So, I kinda turned it into a pretty long story. It’s far more longer than I’ve planned and I keep coming up with more and more things, that’s why I need to divide it into parts.

Lana Winters x fem!Reader

Lana was the woman who broke the mould. She was the embodiment of woman’s strength. No wonder, she became a role model for young feminists, including you. You adored her from the moment you saw her on TV for the first time. She wasn’t even famous yet, and you already were her biggest fan. For some reason you felt like the two of you had a lot in common and would get on well with each other. Yet you were just a teenager – a rebellious girl who grew up in a very conservative family. It was always clear that you weren’t like other girls. You didn’t want to get married or have children. You wanted to study and explore the world. You wanted to change the world and inspire people the way Lana had inspired you. And so you decided to be a journalist.
It wasn’t always easy, but you were a fighter, just like Lana. And even though life lavished both of you with a lot of obstacles, you didn’t give up. You weren’t that type who give up easily. And even though, you had to go through a lot on your way to the aim, you knew it was worth it.
After publishing her book Lana was on top of everything. She was on top of her career, fame and life. At least it seemed like that. She succeeded and was in charge. Everyone not only wanted, but paid for listening to her. She got the power that was unimaginable and finally, for once, everyone was taking her seriously. You wanted the same thing for yourself. And who else could understand it better if not Lana Winters herself?
That’s what you thought going to a job interview at the magazine in which she was the boss. Little did you know that getting to Lana wasn’t going to be as easy as you had thought. She was a chief editor and didn’t bother to participate in the process of recruiting new journalists. She simply didn’t have time for it and didn’t really care. Lana was a busy woman. There were always a lot of thing she needed to do, a lot of places she should be at and a lot of things she wanted to write about. She rarely met with anyone, especially the ‘young staff’ - as they called it - because for her the best way to get to know them was by reading their articles. It was, in fact, that part of her job that she hated. She found them all incompetent and stupid. Their works always needed to be corrected or changed completely in order to make sense at all. Lana often complained that there were no real journalists anymore. And that’s when you appeared and became a member of the staff.
It wasn’t clear for you how or why you managed to get the job, as there were a lot of people who were more experienced than you, but you weren’t going to complain. Working for Lana Winters was like a dream come true. She was the person you looked up to the most, so you were ready to do anything just to meet her. You were young and full of energy. You wanted to change the world and you put a lot of effort into making it happen. Yet you weren’t really ready for a reality check. It was all going too well to be real, you thought, but you were an optimist, so you wanted to believe that after all you had been through it was finally going to be okay. Though, as usually, life wasn’t going to go easy on you.
As you got the job it turned out that you were not only the youngest one, but also the only female member of the staff. That made everything twice as hard, but it didn’t discourage you. You kept on doing your best, believing that it would lead you where you wanted to be. But still there was a long way for you to go before achieving anything.
It wasn’t all that bad at first. They seemed to be pretty nice and friendly, but you soon realized it was only an illusion. In reality they were all awful and treat you horribly. They didn’t take you seriously, even kind of discriminated you, simply because you were a woman. Instead of letting you write they treated you more like some servant. And you were well aware that you wouldn’t be able to achieve your goal if you kept on making tea or coffee. That’s why you decided to do something about it.
Since Lana didn’t have her own family she had pretty much time to focus on her job. She loved writing, but besides being the best journalist she also wanted to help her staff develop. Or rather make sure that her workers were good writers, because obviously, in Lana’s team there was no place for incompetent morons. Her time was precious, but giving her attention to that matter every weekend didn’t seem to be a total waste of time.
As a boss Lana was able to lay down her own rules. And she did make quite a lot of them. One of them was making you write an article for her every week. It was her way of checking if you were making any progress in your writing and if you paid any attention at all to the corrections she had made in your previous works. It also enabled her to keep track of you developing your writing skills.
Whether you liked it or not, all of you had to follow Lana’s rules. You didn’t mind, but the majority of your colleagues hated it. The pressure was enormous, you couldn’t deny it. Writing for Lana was really time consuming, which was the biggest problem for all your male friends, who always complained about it. You failed to understand why they were so ignorant and didn’t take it seriously. For you it was obviously a great way of improving your skills. You were also aware that if you want to keep working at the magazine and be able to work with Lana and not only for her, you needed to be better than the rest. You knew that to get her attention you needed to amaze her with your writing. Though it was pretty hard, taking into consideration that your colleagues pretty much excluded you from writing.
At the beginning you had no idea that Lana wasn’t getting your works at all. She was usually picking a few works every week and then sending them back to their authors with her corrections and suggestions. All your colleagues got their works checked at least once, but you had never got yours. That’s when you began to wonder why. You were furious when you found out that your so called friends were purposefully excluding your works. Though it began to make sense then. No wonder you never got your works proofread, since Lana hadn’t got to read any of them. You knew there was no use in confronting your colleagues about it. That wouldn’t change anything anyway. So, you decided to act the way they did. You couldn’t make them play by your rules, because treating everyone equally obviously wasn’t their thing, so you began playing by their rules. Except you were smarter than them and knew exactly that you were able to beat them even in their own game.
It was against your principles to do things like that, but since you joined the group of male writers you learned that if you wanted to achieve anything, you had to break the rules sometimes. You took the risk and replaced the envelope that your colleagues prepared - with the one that contained only your works, because you had to make sure that Lana would pick your article. It was very risky and there were only two options. You could either get all you wanted or got fired and be left with nothing, but you did it anyway.
You had always been rather a patient and calm person, but that two days of waiting were like a torture. You felt uncertain and didn’t know what to expect. Whether Lana would like your work or hate it? Whether she would be mad and fire you or not? Or what would you do if she indeed fire you? You hadn’t really thought it over and so you were dying of worry for a whole weekend.
But as Monday arrived you didn’t need to wait too long for getting answers to all your questions. Early in the morning Lana practically dashed inside - with the white envelope and a lot of different papers in her hand. She immediately had everyone’s attention, because she had never ever appeared in that part of the office where you were working. She put all her stuff on the nearest chair and spoke up.
“Who wrote this?” she showed you a file of articles
There was a moment of silence. It was hard to say whether she was happy or not and nobody even dared to look at her. You were about to confess it was you, but before you managed to one of your colleagues - the most annoying and self-important one spoke.
“It was me” he said
Apparently, following the “all or nothing” rule was a thing among you. Your heart was beating so fast that you were pretty sure you may faint. What would you do if she believed him? Though luckily for you, she didn’t.
Lana looked at him and a frown of disapproval appeared on her face.
“No, it definitely wasn’t you. I had seen your works before. You’re unable to form a grammatically correct sentence, not to mention that you have absolutely no idea what you’re writing about. Honestly, I don’t know how you managed to graduate in journalism without the ability of writing and having such a poor stock of words”
After that comment you became a little bit less stressed, you somehow found the nerve and addressed her.
“I wrote it” you said coming out from behind the desk
Lana turned around immediately as she heard your voice. She smiled with satisfaction, as she had already known it must have been a woman, who wrote the article.
“Well” she began “I must admit I haven’t seen such a great work in a while”
You looked at her surprised. For a moment you felt dizzy and didn’t know whether it was because you were talking to your idol or because all the stress and uncertainty were finally gone.
“Thank you, Miss Winters” you managed to say
“Oh, you’re welcome, sweetheart. Please, come to my office in an hour. I’d like to talk to you some more and get a few things straight”
“Of course” you nodded still shocked
Lana smiled at you and was about to take her things and make her way to her own office, when your colleague - the one who had spoken before - started an argument.
“It can’t have been her. That must be a mistake”
Lana stopped in her tracks and took a deep breath - she was already done with him, but turned to face him once again.
“Why is that?” she asked
“Because…” he started, but couldn’t find the words
“Yes?” Lana crossed her arms on her chest
“Because she’s a woman!”
“So am I. Is that a problem for you?”
“I mean no… But you... you are Lana Winters and… and…” he kept stuttering
“Listen to me” Lana said sternly “There’s no place for sexism in my team. Everyone is equal regardless of their sex, race or whatever. If you want to be noticed you need to be good at your job. That's how it works here”
“You chose her because she’s a woman and as we all know you like girls” he complained
Lana inhaled sharply. Her hands clenched into fists, but she remained calm.
“I see, you don’t get it. Well, I think in this case we won’t be able to work together anymore” she said
“W-what?”
“Which part you don’t understand? Clean your desk and get out!” with that Lana disappeared leaving everyone speechless
You knew that everything was about to change. All you had to do was to wait one more hour.
