I know Mile and Apo fans are their main fanbase and bread and butter but they should have done the press tour very differently if BOC didn't want Mansuang to be viewed as a BL film. Apo and Bas should have been teamed up for the press tour along with Mile and Tong. All four should have gone abroad for the overseas premiers and even if not for one of the big magazines like vogue should have done more interviews and photoshoots together (all 4) for the movie. They should have played around with the pairing a lot more for the press tour. Bas and Tong had massive parts in the movie and according to critics did very well in the movie.They should have been promoted more in their own press tour for their film. The intention of Mansuang was a Mile Apo movie but that clearly isn't what the end product was and they should have promoted it as an ensemble film. This is not even taking into account the actual veteran actors and actresses in the film that got absolutely 0 press. Let the women and older actors in your film actually promote the film to their own fans and that demographic? People don't go to the movies just for young good looking men. They actually had a lot to work with and I think Mansuang would have done a lot better locally if they hadn't completely blown the marketing for this film in a rushed few weeks with overloaded content that followed the BL marketing handbook that they used for KP.
the lack of acknowledgement of the veteran actors on the posters and in the trailer was something @moerusai and I both noticed and talked about. I think we mainly kept quiet at the time because there was soooo much complaining, from the size of the characters on the poster to how often the specific posters rotated at what venues, it just would be piling on legitimate issues on top of petty complaints.
there were well known, well respected actors in the cast who would've been an audience draw. I have a handful of actors I'll go to see a film for, *knowing* they're playing a side character (thinking mainly of Tom Hardy and Ben Whishaw here, who shine as leads and support).
Mile and Apo both made jokes about how difficult it must have been for the artist who made the Man Suang posters to have worked with Pond. there's many fan accounts of Pond's perfectionism in running KPWT... he often seems myopic on perfectionism to the point of missing the main points (here, having a poster that pleased him over missing the overarching man suang marketing campaign...)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I also miss actor mileapo... 😔
not to make riches out of others' misfortune but the WGA strike and the SAG strike did potentially help in getting them on the map prior to White Lotus scripting and casting. There was already some momentum in getting them into the show as guest actors. If that happened it would be a wonderful way for them to get into a series where they're not doing the heavy lifting end to end of fundraising / script development all the way through coming up with marketing. 🙃
the problem with the fandom and having inherited the attitude of entitled musician / kpop fandoms is the constant hunger for new content and getting to see them. film / series take a lot more time to develop. you can drop a single or music videos in preparation for the launch of an album or just as a stand alone single, and most fans just don't seem to recognize that discrepancy in the lift. there were toxic apc solos complaining in August about how the year is "almost over" and Apo had "nothing" as though he didn't spend the majority of the year working on the movie.
anyway the hunger for content makes product promo much more accessible and bite sized... people just aren't patient enough. so many people were mad and antsy when MA were shooting man suang and trying to limit spoilers by showing very little that they threw fits over there not being new content when MA were literally working on the content that is the main dish of the whole meal.
anyway. yeah I agree. fingers crossed the uni icon product will go through relatively quick production and white lotus will pick them 🤞

Man, if i knew people would be this salty on both sides about the fact there would be no endgame calamity ships, I probably would made more posts about it XD
Anyway, I've seen some posts about the interview that sunk any of the calamity ships ships, and them being pretty aggressive with the idea that there was no way that there was planned to be any romance in the story at all, and Disney DEFINITLY didn't slap it down during season 3's production. There was definitely not a romance at the end that was cut. In fact, there was NO suggestion of romance at all in the series.
Which got me thinking, is that really the case? Are fans just looking too hard with the usual shipping stuff? Or are people just mad about shipper having a point?
So let's actually dig into this idea, and analyze whether or not there might have been real plans for an endgame Calamity ship before something(Aka Disney giving marching orders to cut it) made them change it before the end.
Sashannarcy
Tumblr media
Now, let's just get the big one out of the way first.
There was no way that Sashannarcy, the Fandoms most popular ship was EVER planned to be canon.
There is the obvious fact that Disney would NEVER have let the ship go through, and the writers would have known that from day one.
There is no way this crew would have been dumb enough to build up a story to a ship they knew from day one would never happen ever.
But there is also another reason why sashannarcy was not planned, and it relates to Marcy, as i'll cover with the next ship.
Marcanne
Tumblr media
Marcanne Is the second most popular ship of the series, and i can definitely see why. And frankly speaking, i can definitely see it working as an endgame ship.
However, I do not for one second believe that it was planned from the start, and the reason for that is that unlike the vast, vast majority of Amphibia, Marcy's character was not planned from the start.
Tumblr media
Unlike Anne and sasha, who remained pretty much the same characters they were from draft one to the finished product, Marcy's character was still up in the air, until season 2 began it's production.
She was originally envisioned as a sorceress, and vagrant, before her being settled on as a ranger.
More importantly for this discussion however, is that Marcy's personality was originally meant to be WAY different. With her being far more calm, cold and calculated. It wasn't before they had her voice actress actually read lines, that the marcy we know came to be.
So if you've ever thought that, "Man, Marcy looks really shifty and confident when Anne stole the box", that's the reason. While her motivation was already there, her personality and character was not. That's also why there was nothing of her as a character in season 1. Because they still hand't settled on it.
With all this in mind, i find it very, VERY unlikely that they were planning on making Marcanne a thing from the beginning, when they hadn't even fully settled on how her and Anne's relationship would have worked before season 2.
It is of course possible that the way they gelled so incredibly good in season 2 changed their plans and they wanted to make the ship happen at the end, but if so, then that wasn't planned from the start.
It would if so, qualify as a cut romance, but it would not have been the original plan for the series that everything had been leading up to.
For obvious reasons this also means that Marcy x Sasha was not planned either.
Which leaves us with...
Sashanne
Tumblr media
Now, i have made it no secret that the way i read Sasha waybright's feelings on Anne, as someone deeply in love.
But let's look at this objectively, and break it down, and look at it both from their relationship, but also from a meta perspective, and some stuff we saw through the series that may or may read as hints.
Tumblr media
Let's begin with Sasha picking up Anne.
Before heading to Wartwood, Sasha specifically had a special carriage prepared, and it was most certainly custom made, which means it's design was all chosen by her deliberately.
And for it, Sasha specifically chose to make sure that it had huge, obvious golden hearts. But not only that, but she also made sure to to find a spider that looked much, much cuter than the usual tarantulas toads usually use, give it a suave wig, sunhlasses, and trained it to drop them bad boy style.
I will be blunt. I honestly cannot interpret this thing, as anything but Sasha trying to be romantic and sweep anne off her feet.
And i felt that way ever since i first saw "Reunion", BEFORE i actually started to ship them following Sasha's followup development.
Tumblr media
Then we got the cut/toned down scenes from Reunion, where Sasha was way, way more directly physically on with Anne, pushing her cheek directly up against hers, which in turn immediately cheered Anne up on the spot, shoeing that Sasha and Anne was originally planned to have a much more touchy feely relationship than what they ended up with(And it's not like they aren't touchy feely in the show itself).
Tumblr media
Then there was the dance scene, which was originally gonna have them hold handa(Setting up their dance fight in "The beginning of the end" two seasons later), and that the game they were playing was about fusion, but originally only about the color of pink and blue, with green nowhere to be seen.
Now I'm not saying that these two are definite proof that the shoe was going to have these hook up, but keep in mind that they WERE told to tone it down from what they had originally planned, and there must have been a reason for that.
The creators had a vision, and as shown here, Disney were very much willing to meddle with it as they saw fit, in order to tone down the imagery.
Tumblr media
Moving on to season 2, we have the famous joke from quarreler's pass, where Hop Pop says "Lets talk about Anne's Boyfriend again" and gets kicked off a cliff in response.
However, the show then immediately cuts to the next episode, and the the very first episode showcases Sasha running and is all about her reaction and how she deals with the aftermath of "Reunion", and the episode ends with her declaring that she and Anne aren't through yet. Not even close.
This could be coincidence, but on a meta level, it works really, really well as a hint/foreshadowing, if you assume that the story will end with these two hooking up.
Tumblr media
Then, on the opposite end of these girls, when Anne designs the costumes for their band, she gives Marcy a butterfly(the symbol of metamorphosis), herself a Dragonfly(So she can make a pun on it and her name).
And what does she give Sasha?
A moth costume. The moth, who Anne would know very well from "Flight of the moth" is "one of nature's most seductive animals".
Out of countless insects to go with, Anne deliberately chooses an animal that she knows is known for "Being seductive". That... Probably speaks for itself.
As for season 3, it is full of moments that are very, very easy to read as romantic between the two of them, be it their very erotic dance, pretty much all of commander anne has strong romantic overtones(like her overcomponsating too hard against what broke them up in the first place, which is something couples who get back together after a breakup very often do), or Sasha flat out admit that she loves Anne in Turning point, and her big moral heel turn is built on the idea that Sasha wants to be someone worthy of Anne's love.
However, on the meta front there are a couple of things, like how Toady specifically refers to them as Madame Generals. For those who don't know, Madame is a term exclusive to women who are married. So he's basically saying they're a couple.
Then there is this scene where the Plantars are marveling at a love story from a tv series, and exclaiming:
Tumblr media
"And it only took 3 seasons"
Which if Sasha and Anne and hooked up would have been a nice meta joke and nod, in that yep, it literally took 3 seasons for the ship to sail.
Now to my verdict.
If there was any ship that i realistically can think was indeed planned to happen from the start, only to be struck down by Diseny during production(Not wanting another confirmed gay romance between leads after they canceled Owl House for it), then it was Sashanne. Realistically speaking, of the calamity girls ships, it was the only one who had enough planning from the start, along with lots and lots of moments that could easily have lead into a romance, to have been the planned endgoal all along.
Mind you, I'm not saying this WAS definitely the case, but the people saying that the writers didn't include anything at all which suggested that romance would happen, are flat out wrong.
I can believe that Matt Braly did indeed plan this story out with no romance at all planned.
On the other hand, i can also fully believe that he wanted Sasha and Anne to hook up at the end of the series, built the idea up all through 3 seasons, only to get a solid NO from Disney, and told to keep his damn mouth shut about it if he ever wanted another chance at another series.
I'm not blaming him if that is the case mind you. He needs to eat like the rest of us. I'm just pointing out that the official reasons the owl house got the boot, which was touted by creators, was that it didn't fit in with what disney wanted out of their shows.
And it's bullshit. Disney knows it's bullshit. The people who said it knows it's bullshit. We know it's bullshit.
Owl house was canceled because it was a kids show that had a gay lead in a relationship with another girl, and disney got cold feet after it became a major part of the show. We know it, Disney knows it, everyone knows it.
And yet they forced the creators to claim otherwise so they wouldn't have to deal with the bad press.
I'm not saying that is DEFINITELY the case here. But it is very much a possibility.

Introduction as told by Red
Tumblr media
❝ My name? Doesn't matter and if you must, just call me Red. Here's the story. I was born the youngest to seven other siblings and two.... unique.... parents. They were alright, you know bought us all up to be ambitious. Dad's a celebrity doctor, you know the type that appears on tv as an expert? Mom's an actress. Shakespare, stage plays, always the biggest prescene in the room. They've been divorced several times. It's always been a turblent affair between them. ❞
❝ My siblings? All wildly success. Some took after Mom, some took after Dad. Big business, this and that. One of my sister's has a fitness cult in Texas; you heard right, but we'll get to that and all the details about the rest of them later. Me, on the other hand? Not so much, much to Mother's disappointment. I have a day job, it pays the bills, fits my set of skills. Not ambitious enough for the family name, but I was an oddball. ❞
❝ Who I am in my day life doesn't matter, and I really don't want my family finding out it is ME whose up to what I am about to be up to. Secret identity and all. You've read about it in comics. ❞
❝ So who is me? Who's Red? Red's not an alias, not some hero name, it's a lack of name. I... wouldn't be doing this if I didn't get dragged into it and I don't know if I'll keep doing this, I.... I see injustice daily, so if I'm any good at this, maybe I'll keep it up. ❞
❝ I have talents, maybe call them powers. Sound mimicry, wind manipulation, really cool trick of knowing when someone's about to hit me, I can copy cat people. It's pretty good, since a natural born fighter I was not, except mybe these talents were always in me waiting to wake up. I wouldn't have the answers, I killed the thing with the answers. ❞
❝ Alright, Red, enough suspense; look I love exposition, my day job is mostly paperwork and research I love it; anyways. So on the eve of my 27th birthday, I was visited by.... I still don't really have a clue, but a little alien demon man-thing; who was looking for my closest sister, Vivian. See Viv and I look a lot alike, we aren't twins, she's a year older and was coming to tell her that our family was only three years shy of the prophecy of world destruction was upon that, that they were this close to becoming gods. ❞
❝ Apparently, my entire family is evil with special talents; used for manipulating the world or people, that's the gist. The prophecy goes something like "On the eve of the eighth child, that's me by the way, take her life and she will become the key to the universe and your family will become gods of the new world. Something like that, except, I'm the eighth child. I'm 27 now. That's three years from my birthday. My sister was suppose to be the messenger of some universe destroying prophecy my family was going to achieve. ❞
❝ The alien-demon man fucked up and when he realized that he just revealed a HUGE family secret to the eight child, the dud child... He attacked, I don't know if he was going to kill me, considering I'm a key or whatever... We got into a struggle, it was going really badly but ... Uh... I managed to kill him, I didn't want to. I was simply trying to get away, protect myself, scream bloody murder for anyone, someone. ❞
❝ His body fell limp on top of me and... he didn't look human, I didn't know what to do, who to call. My day job, I know some of the ins and outs of legal system; I'd probably be fine, I mean it was NOT human but that's also the trouble. Most traumatizing night of my life, but what I figure out later? That's gonna be more traumatizing, spoiler warning, sorry. ❞
❝ After he died... I killed him, holy shit, I killed someone even if it wasn't human, which am I even human? Is my family? I felt different like.... stronger, faster, I... My voice started changing, the air felt like something I could grasp, like I could pull on like reigns. I remembered everything I read, honestly, some of these talents made my day job easier. ❞
❝ Eventually the thing's body just... disappeared. So one problem solved, but the next was figuring out what the fuck, what the fuck, what the fuck... Does my family know? Does Vivi? Should I say somthing, I definitely shouldn't say anything. They... They wouldn't kill me on my thirth. I could be hallucinating this maybe, did I drink too much... Weeks pass, my talents I start being the little nerd I am and research, test, see the extent and limits. ❞
❝ I start getting ideas... I... you hear about people trying to be a hero, what if me? I mean... if I have these powers, what if it's real. What if I'm doome to die at thirty by the hands of my family so they can dominate all of mankind. So... I start trying things, little things. Comic book things. I need to start making a plan, because I think it's real, all of it, cause the next time I visit my sister Vivian... ❞
❝ She doesn't just run a fitness empire; it's an empire, it's a cult. She gets her high, commanding people, telling what to do with with their body, with how they look. She's a bad person. It's sick. It's disgusting and... I think she'd kill me when I turned thirty. What about the rest? ❞
❝ So I start digging, into my family, carefully. I've... I've already started trying to solve injustice problems on the West Coast, from San Francisco. Vigilante. Hit the news, or trying not to is the goal. The ability to change my voice has been helpful in protecting who I was. I don't want too much noise around me, but I start digging into my family and they are all bad people. I mean, they are rich, but... but they don't see people as people, they only see them as pawns, toys, dolls, tools, underlings. They are hiding things, definitely not US or UK legal things. ❞
❝ I have to stop them, without them knowing its me. Without... I may have to kill them, if... If I can't work out how to stop them, stop this prophecy. I have to assume they have powers too, or something; that they are dangerous and I am going to have to get good at being outnumbered, at fighting, and solving problems... and preparing myself, stopping them before I turn thirty and... worst happens. ❞

Is the shipper worth watching? I've seen you praise it quite a lot and wanted to know your take on it
hi nonny! many apologies for the late response xx
my general feelings about the shipper can be summarised as: aaaaaaaggghhhh the shipper was such a good show i’m so mad it had so many problematic elements that (understandably) keep people away from it. also, it absolutely fascinates me from a storytelling point of view (my original answer to this turned into a a several-thousand-word essay about why the shipper is actually a piece of metafictional genius, but that took me so far from what you're asking that i started again 😅).
so anyway, here's a list of things I like about the shipper, with a big disclaimer that 1) it's been over a year since i watched it so i might have forgotten some things and b) it isn't going to be everyone's cup of tea (and that's okay!). i'll just summarise the stuff i liked, since you can find enough negative reviews of the shipper in other places if you want to, and i'll try to keep this spoiler free in case you decide to watch <3
THINGS I LIKED ABOUT THE SHIPPER:
1) Four (4) of the seven main characters are female, which is UNHEARD of for a gmmtv show (particularly one with bl themes lmao). imo, the female characters (particularly the human ones) are all really well developed and I would die for all of them.
2) The cast is incredible. It used mostly newer and less experienced young actors (with the exception of Ohm, Jennie and First) and it really allowed them to showcase their skills. Also it gave some of the younger gmmtv actresses a chance to have roles that weren't just sidepieces or jealous girlfriends
3) The characters: I love all the characters so much. The shipper is essentially a character-driven show, and they're all fleshed out so well. They initially appear to be fairly stereotypical figures (the smart and hardworking one, his popular jock love interest, the bl fangirls, the evil jealous girlfriend) but they are SO MUCH MORE than that. In fact, that's the whole point of the show--picking apart these narrative archetypes and humanising these characters. Plus, all the characters are genuinely so precious and by the end I was ready to die for pretty much all of them <33
4) The plot and pacing is really good. There were plot twists every other episode, I could never predict what was coming next, and that ending threw me completely. it also straddled the line between multiple genres--fantasy, slice-of-life, romance, mystery, comedy--in a way that felt incredibly fun and fresh.
5) It's funny! In a way that is so delightful and refreshing. It's so fantastically self-aware, and it pokes fun at itself wonderfully--but it's always such gentle humour. It's never cruel or at the expense of any of the characters.
6) The ships! All of the character dynamics are fantastic, all the actors and characters had amazing chemistry, and none of us had any idea who was going to be endgame till the end. (Again, the narrative is very self-aware in this respect.)
7) The relationships (non-romantic): the shipper spends just as much time on friendships and familial relationships as it does on ships. i really liked the way friendship was explored as an important but complicated and difficult part of adolescent identity
8) Its handling of heavier topics, like death, grief, and the complete emotional wreckage of adolescence. It does largely maintain a lighthearted tone throughout, but possibly for that reason I found the times when it did to be startlingly touching and profound.
Some extra thoughts:
- Don't go into it thinking it's a bl. It's not a bl; it contains mlm characters and relationships but it is not primarily a boys' love romance. That's not the story it's trying to tell and if you judge it by those standards then the narrative beats come out looking all wrong. It's a series about a group of teenagers struggling to figure out who they are when their identities are overshadowed by the expectations and narratives projected onto them. Queer romance and identity is a big part of that, but it's not the only thing the series focuses on.
- Not going to go into this too much, but to me, the shipper is an absolutely fascinating exercise in storytelling and narrative, and it only really works if you don’t take it at face value. it's a lot deeper than it seems at first--it's super self-aware and uses its premise to really interrogate lots of harmful bl tropes, and the whole POINT of the series is that appearances lie. All the time. And this is a lesson taught not only to the characters, but to the audience as well. I also find it interesting how the show itself almost never explcitly condemns any of the characters or their actions. The characters do! The audience does! But the show itself deliberately maintains a sort of moral neutrality, and a very purposeful compassion towards all its characters, that is absolutely fascinating, and i'm not sure i've ever seen it anyway else in quite the same way. And i think it's brilliant because it means you can't be a passive audience. The show does things that force the viewer to undertake the same journey that Pan (the main character) does: to decide where they place the line between fiction and reality, what they are okay with. There are bits that are supposed to make you uncomfortable, or go 'wtf'. But depiction isn't necessarily glorification, and it's up to the viewer to decide how to interpret what they see
So, would I recommend the shipper? My answer is: yes, but if you start it and really don't vibe with it, or if you come across bits that make you legitimately uncomfortable, then it might just not be for you and that's okay!

Tumblr media
Summary: you weren’t really sure how it happened, but an average student who wore glasses and spent all her extra time on bookstores and library managed to date your school’s volleyball club setter. On your 3rd year of law school, your ten years anniversary to be exact, he went home from Argentina and it was a week before he was going back, he broke up with you with the reason of he can't handle long-distance relationship anymore despite being at it for two years. You didn’t cry, you stood there as he was sobbing in front of you, you held his face in your palms and offered him a gentle smile, gentle enough to let him know you’ll support him and will always be watching him, together with the child in your stomach right now, but he doesn’t need to know that.
Chapters: prev// next
Tumblr media
“is model Sato Himari dating Argentina national male volleyball team player Oikawa Tooru?” you read yet another dating rumor from your past lover
you shook your head and mumbled “he never changed” you said clucking your toungue
it’s been almost two years now since your break-up, your son and his twin brother were already ten months old, they grew up to be healthy and happy babies
Your parents helped you take care of your babies whenever you were attending school and doing your part-time jobs
You also tried to avoid some high school friends since almost all of them knew Oikawa and you didn’t think it was time for him to find out about his sons yet
His career is at its peek, he was getting a lot of endorsements inside and outside of Japan, he was always getting linked to a lot of famous people and influencers
You felt so small compared to him and quite frankly, you didn't know if you wanted that life for your sons, i mean Oikawa had paparazzi following him everywhere he's almost like a celebrity
Well with that looks of him, it wasn't a surprise
Besides, you didn't know if he still loved you, he was surrounded by a lot of rumors from celebrities to actresses to models
And you were just a fresh graduate looking for a job to sustain your kids
With all of that out of the way, you decided that you didn't want Oikawa to meet your kids
"hiii babies" you cooed at your sons when you arrived at your parent's house
They all giggled in unison reaching out their tiny hands to you, they were already in their strollers when you arrived ready to go
"hey ma, pa thank you again for today" you hugged your parents, without them, you probably wouldn't manage to pay for yours and your sons' expenses
"y/n please rest for a little bit, we already told you, me and your dad can afford to take care of yours and your sons' needs" your mother pleaded with you one more time
You looked at her with tired eyes but you were hosting a gentle smile on your lips
"mom, its really fine, you guys are already taking care of my kids I cant let you carry all the burden, besides, I already got the job from the law firm" you smiled at them lifting the takeout food they failed to notice when you entered
"I can begin work after a week"
Thus you and your sons left your parent's house a little later than usual as you ate dinner
Tumblr media
"good morning my baby" you greeted Haruto who was always the first one to wake up, you lift him up from his crib as you sat down the rocking chair just in front of their crib feeding him with your breastmilk
"eat up before your brother wakes up" you smiled at him, his small eyes looking at you as he sips milk from your nipples, smiling while doing so
It was moments like this when you felt bad for them, how you wanted them to have a father, but you know it was far for that to happen, their father was at the other side of the world and the chances of you getting back together was next to impossible
You relish the silent peaceful morning
Until it was ruined by the loud ringing of your phone, you reached for it since it was just on top of the table beside your chair
You didn't check the caller
"hello?"
"bessssstiiieee" you moved your phone away from your ear
"Akira, its 7 in the morning here for goodness sake" you scold your bestfriend who is also in Argentina
"ohhh sorry are my godchildren still sleeping?" she asked
"I'm feeding Haruto at the moment, Hayato is still asleep" you said looking down at your son and made a funny face which made him giggle
"anyways bestfriend, i'm going home to attend the high school reunion, are you coming?" she asks
"no-"
"oh no you don't bitch, i'm coming home and WE will attend that party, last year i was alone, Himari was annoying the shit out of me with her stupidly pretty face"
"why did you even ask me in the first place?" you deadpanned
She knew you couldn't say no to her, how could you? When she was there when you were crying your eyes out after the break up, putting up with your intense cravings and rubbing your back during morning sickness heck she even hesitated on going to Argentina to get trained by the photographer she idolizes the most because you were two months away from giving birth
Even in Argentina she was constantly calling her friends if they had jobs available for you, and for that you are forever thankful for her
"But, what if he's there?" you asked, there was a reason why you didn't attend high school reunion last year, you were afraid Oikawa was there
"its not like we're going to bring the boys with us- oh wait I'm about to board my flight I'll call you when I arrive bye love you" and with that she ended the phone abruptly
You sighed and looked at Hayato shuffle awake in his bed

"yes, mum, i'll be fine here. i've been doing fine for the past two and a half months, what's another week without you guys gonna do to me?" you told your mother on the phone, rolling your eyes at her excessive, unnecessary worrying.
"we're so sorry about this, sweetheart," you heard your dad speak and you figured he must've been listening the whole time. your mum must've had it on speaker since the beginning of the phone call.
"you shouldn't have to spend your birthday all alone. i promise we'll make it up to you, honey." your mother spoke again and you groaned. "i keep telling you that it's fine. and what do you take me for, a loner? i've got the others here, mum, i'll be fine." you told her, a smile ghosting over your lips at how concerned she is of you.
your birthday was coming in two days and having a whole movie to film meant that you weren't allowed to leave the country for just a weekend to celebrate it with your family. so, they worked around your schedule and planned a trip to visit. unfortunately, your idiot of a brother managed to get himself into a skating accident and had to be hospitalised, affecting their whole plan of coming to celebrate your 18th birthday with you. well, not on the day of your birthday, at least.
"i'll make sure sarah'll bring you out to celebrate, okay? i'm so sorry about this, y/n." you could practically hear the pout in her voice and you held back the urge to tell her off for profusely apologising, you didn't want to receive a beating when she finally arrives here.
"i'll be fine, mum," you whined. "as i said, i'll be filming on my birthday too so i'll at least be with the cast then. it's never a dull day with them. and i'll be waiting for your gift from sarah on my birthday." you teased her. you knew she had a habit of getting birthday gifts way too early. for once, she was grateful for that because she had given sarah—your manager and also a family friend— your birthday present for her to safe-keep in case anything like this happened and she couldn't give it to you on your birthday.
"i'll give you permission to whack your brother once we come." your dad tells you seriously and you laughed. "thanks, dad. i'll be sure to remember it. anyways, i have to get back on set soon. i'll talk to you guys when i can?"
"of course, honey. have fun on set!" your parents bid you goodbye and you hung up with an adoring smile on your face. you missed your family and having been able to hear your parents' voices for a mere five minutes was enough to cure it for even just a little bit. sure, you were disappointed that you weren't going to get to spend your birthday with them but spending it doing what you love—acting— with the people, aside from your family and friends from home, that you love—the cast— didn't sound so bad.
"i'm so sorry about this, darling." you heard someone say, effectively breaking your train of thoughts. you turned to the source of the voice, meeting the hazel eyes of your manager and long-time family friend, sarah. she pulls you in for a hug that you groaned into but still returned. you rolled your eyes playfully when she let go. "i'm not upset, sarah."
"i know. but you're disappointed." she says softly, fixing your costume after the hug messed it up a little. "maybe i am, but it doesn't matter. i chose this life so technically i brought all of this upon myself. i signed up to have a normal life stripped away from me." you told her honestly, internally cringing because you hadn't meant to get that deep.
"y/n," her hands rested on both of your shoulders and she looks down at you with that stern mum glare she'd give you whenever you were being a little troublemaker. she was practically your second mum, having promised your own that she'd take care of you whenever you had to travel for filming.
"i know, i know, i'm sorry. i didn't mean it in a bad way. i love my job but it sucks that i have to be far away from family, you know?" you sighed. "i understand, darling. it's hard but hey, i'll be with you the whole day, okay? we'll go out and have a nice girl's day out together, do whatever you want. that sound nice to you?" she places a gentle hand against your skin, careful not to rub the fake dirt and wound makeup on your face.
"that sounds great, sarah. i have only a half day of filming that day, right?" you ask her, knowing she remembers your schedule better than you yourself do. "yup. anyways, they need you on set 3. get out there and make me proud, darling."
-
"and....cut!" the director called out and you dramatically dropped limp against the wire harness attached to your body, the wires holding up your weight so you didn't drop down to the floor but also didn't have to remain standing on your own.
you heard sebastian laughing, him being the closest to you in the scene you had just filmed. "you tired, y/n/n?" evans chuckled as he walked towards where you and seb were standing. "yeah, i just wanna sleep right now." you told them, standing up on your own when a crew member wanted to get your harness off.
"well, at least you get to rest now. you're done for the day right?" seb asked, the three of you now walking to the snack table together. "yeah but sarah wanted to take me out so maybe not rest but i'll get to relax. that's good enough," you say, peeling off a banana and taking a bite while the two men drank some water.
"she's taking you out later today? is there a special occasion?" chris asked and you smiled at him. "nah, nothing much. she just thought i've been stressed lately." you lied. you didn't want to seem attention-seeking for telling chris and sebastian that it was your birthday so you settled on a little lie.
"she's not wrong. you have been working hard and you deserve a relaxing evening off work." seb agreed.
"oh she's walking over here right now. are you going now?" chris asked, eyes trained behind you as he watched sarah coming closer. you turned around, meeting her frown-etched face and you blinked profusely in confusion. "i thought we're going in two hours?"
"y/n, i'm so sorry. some stuff came up and i have last minute errands to run all day," she told you, offering a guilty expression when your face dropped slightly. "oh.. i– um, yeah, it's fine."
"are you sure it's fine? i promised you though," she frowned. "it's fine, i know you have a lot to handle and it's totally fine if we don't go out today. i'll just take a nap and be on netflix all day, i guess." you joked but sarah didn't laugh. "sarah, it's fine. you know i've been wanting to catch up on a list of shows. when else will i be able to do this?" you assured her, trying to mask your disappointment.
"i have to go now. i'll make it up to you, darling, i promise." she gave you a hug before running off somewhere. you felt bad for her because she probably had to be running here and there all day but it didn't change that you were disappointed. maybe you really did deserve this for choosing this life.
"hey kiddo," you felt someone ruffle your hair and you were almost going to go off on them for doing that before remembering you had just finished your last scene for the day. an arm rested over your shoulder and you looked up to see jeremy taking over sarah's previous spot.
"um excuse me? do we not exist?" chris joked when jeremy didn't greet him nor seb. jeremy rolled his eyes at them, turning back to look down at you. "you did great today, kiddo." he complimented and you smiled, thanking him.
"wow okay, i guess we really don't exist, huh? c'mon seb, let's go somewhere else where people appreciate our presence." evans sassed, glaring at you two as both men strutted away.
"good riddance," jeremy said, dropping his arm so that you two were now face to face. "happy birthday, y/n." he says, handing you a little bronze coloured box. you gasped as you took it in your hands.
"how'd you know it was my birthday?" you asked him, eyes wide in surprise. "of course i know your birthday, kiddo. after all, you are my favourite co-star." he grins, gesturing for you to open the box.
you did and your hand immediately flew to cover your mouth in shock. "jeremy! you didn't!" you gently took out the necklace from the box, examining it closely. the charm was in the shape of your favourite animal and the chain was gold. this must've costed him a fortune.
"jeremy, you didn't have to!" you exclaimed, pouting at him to prevent yourself from bursting into tears right then and there. "kiddo, i love you a lot, how could i not?"
playing clint's adopted, eldest daughter in the films, as well as a member of the avengers, you and jeremy worked together a lot. he helped you a lot with practicing your lines and emotions for specific scenes and you bonded over so many things you two had in common. even off set jeremy still acted like your father so practically everyone knew how close you two were. if sarah is considered your second mum, you'd say jeremy is your second dad.
"so i heard sarah bailed on your birthday date today," he says as he helped you put on the necklace, smiling fondly when you looked down at it happily. "thanks a lot, jeremy. you really didn't have to," you hugged him tight, the man chuckling as he hugged you back.
"and sarah didn't bail. she just has errands to run all day. can't blame her, she's a busy woman." you told him. "yeah yeah, anyways, how 'bout i take you out instead? a birthday lunch and a day out with your favourite cast mate?" he wiggles his eyebrows at you, a smirk playing on his lips.
"you don't have anymore scenes to shoot?" you ask. "i do but i have plenty of time before then." he replies. you agreed happily and he tells you to meet him outside the set in an hour so you two could change out of your costumes.
-
"you ready for the best day ever, kiddo?" jeremy asks as you entered the passenger seat. "best day ever? then shouldn't we invite the rest?" you teased, buckling your seatbelt. "hey! i'm pretty fun too!"
you chuckled at his childishness. "i'm kidding, you are fun. now let's go already, i'm starving." you complained and he started the engine, letting you play whatever songs you wanted as background to your small talk.
you had lunch first at your favourite restaurant but not before you two had a debate of whether you were allowed to because you were supposed to be on a diet during the length of the movie shooting and him ultimately going 'to hell with that diet, it's your special day' and then dragging you in. after that, he said he had a surprise for you and told you to just get in the car.
when he finally stopped somewhere, you realised it was a pretty well known hair salon in town and you tilted your head in confusion. why would he bring you here?
"you said you wanted to dye your hair, didn't you? let's do it." he says nonchalantly, unbuckling his seatbelt before you both exited the car. "are you crazy? we're still in the middle of filming!" you exclaim in disbelief. this man was crazy.
"yeah but it's not like they can't just get a wig of your current hair and use that for the rest of the filming. scar and lizzie wear wigs all the time, you can too. now let's go dye that stupid colour you want!" he cheers, tugging you along with him by your wrist, into the salon. you chuckled at his antics, letting him drag you.
the next hour or two was spent with you worrying that your parents would kill you for this, or worse, anthony or joe. you knew it would be a meltdown for them if you came back with your hair a completely different colour.
jeremy assured you that the russos, as well as your parents, would not get mad at this but you were pretty sure you'd get an earful from both pairs. you made him promise that he would talk to both parties that he was the one who convinced you to do this. but once your hair was done, all worries flew out the window as you admired your new hair.
"you look great, kiddo. this colour looks good on you." he looks at you with a fond smile, trying to resist the urge to ruffle your newly done hair but failing. you pouted at him when he did so, reaching up to fix it again. "sorry, y/n/n, couldn't resist," he states, pinching your cheek.
"alright, next stop now, let's go!" he pulls you by the wrist once again and you let him, used to him doing this already. the next time he stopped, you damn right almost had another heart attack because again, this man was crazy.
he did not just bring you to a nail place. surely he isn't about to let you get your nails done, right? the russos would have your head and his too if you were to get them done and casually get back to the studio.
"no." you said firmly, crossing your arms over your chest as you stayed seated in the passenger seat. "c'mon, y/n/n," he whined, throwing a tantrum outside the car door as he tried to get you to leave the car.
"no, jeremy, they'll literally send me back here to get it off because in case you forgot, in all my scenes, i don't have fancy nails." you reasoned, noticing that jeremy has now moved to your side of the car and the passenger seat door has now been opened, the man continuing to make a fuss closer to you now.
"no they will not, i'll make sure they don't. c'mon kiddo, it's your birthday, let's have a little fun!" he says but you were still unsure about the whole thing. "i don't know.."
"okay fine i guess i'll tell you this now. they didn't want to tell you until later today because they wanted it to be your kinda birthday present but your avenger suit has changed. it's not like the one in the last movie, it's got gloves now! and the rest of your scenes excluding the last few ones are all in your superhero suit right?" your eyes widened at this new information, a smile growing on your lips.
"wait, for real? are you sure they're not just fingerless gloves?" he smiles down at you. "yeah. i planned this day well, okay? put some trust in me, geez," he sassed, moving out of your way as you finally exited the car.
"this better not be a joke, renner, because if it is, i'll have your head." you threatened jokingly. "yeah, yeah. oh also, can you just pretend to be shocked when they tell you about your suit upgrade? because i really wasn't supposed to tell you this." he scratched the back of his head awkwardly as you walked two walked into the nail salon.
the entire time, he awkwardly sat at the side, waiting for you to be done. when you were though, he quickly got up, as if he had been restless sitting down the whole time.
"they're pretty," he says as you walked back to his car. "yeah, i really like them. haven't had my nails done in a long time." you replied, getting in the car and waiting for jeremy to get in on his side. once he did, he immediately started the engine and started driving back to the set where he had to continue shooting and where you knew sarah would be waiting for you.
it was after many different topics and finally arriving outside the set did you decide to get a little emotional. "hey, i just wanna say thanks for today. i thought i was gonna spend the day alone watching netflix all day like some loser but you made this day really enjoyable. you have no idea how much this really means to me, thank you so much jeremy. i love you." you pouted at him, trying not to cry. "aw kiddo, of course. you're an important person to me. couldn't let you be a loser on your special day," he teases, bringing you into a hug where he didn't miss his chance to ruffle your hair.
once you let go, he kept an arm around your shoulder as you both walked in. he opened the door for you both and you almost jumped in place.
"HAPPY BIRTHDAY!"
your jaw dropped at the sight in front you. every single one of your co-stars, along with some crew members were wearing party hats holding up a banner that said 'HAPPY BIRTHDAY, Y/N'. sarah was in the middle, holding a huge birthday cake with a smile on her face. you slowly walked towards her, hand over your mouth in shock.
sarah gave the cake over to robert before opening her arms up for you. you gave her a tight hug. "you didn't have to do all this," you say, letting go of her. "jeremy and i planned this right when your mother called beforehand and told me they couldn't come in time." she explained.
you turned to jeremy who had been standing next to you the whole time, giving him another hug which he happily accepted. "you guys didn't have to." you told them, trying not to cry at the thought that these people loved you enough to do this for you.
"but we wanted to. and the rest wanted to join in too. now before you start bawling your eyes out, let's get this party started!" he cheered.
"but before that, make a wish, kiddo." robert tells you after evans finished lighting up all the candles. you closed your eyes, making a wish and blowing them all out. everyone cheered before walking away to grab food or to talk to others. or in your cast mates' cases, fighting over who gets to give you your present first.
"you knew it was my birthday!" you exclaimed when you locked eyes with evans, who was in the middle of a brawl with both mackie and robert. he laughed out loud. "yeah! i did! your lie couldn't fool me, child!" he says dramatically, before being pushed aside by robert.
you laughed as they continued to fight right in front of you about who you love more and therefore getting to be first to give you their gift. they even managed to slip in a few compliments about your new hair, while they were literally fighting. you watched in glee, realising that even if your biological family couldn't make it for your special day, you still had a second one to make it special.

The original was accidentally deleted by my stupid ass but here's me, attempting to recreate it. Requester(is that a word?) is @winterszsoldier , thanks for requesting! Also, blushie baby Oliver to make your day!!
Tumblr media
Oliver sipped some tea as he flipped through the channels on TV, looking for something good. After a while, he decided on The Ellen Show and chuckled when he saw his friend and costar, Y/n L/n in the hot seat.
Y/n seemed uncomfortable in her own skin as she sat in front of Ellen, a live audience staring at her, as well as the camera that recorded her every move. Nevertheless, she put a smile on her face.
"So, Y/N L/N, excited for the release of your newest movie? I heard the actor opposite you is quite the man." Ellen winked.
Y/n chuckled. "Yes, I am quite excited, and yes, Oliver is a delightful man."
"Now, one of your fans recently asked what your favourite TV show is. Would you be so kind as to give them an answer?" Ellen smiled.
She thought for a bit. "Well, it has to be either 911 or Into the Badlands. Why? Both are quite gripping and fascinating." Y/n decided. "I've actually rewatched 911 thrice!" The actress chuckled.
Ellen laughed. "Maybe you can't get enough of a certain character." She joked.
"Well, I am quite fond of Evan Buckley. Oliver is a massively talented actor." She smiled.
"If I'm not wrong, you and Oliver are quite close too, right?" Ellen questioned.
"Well, yeah. I was an extra in Into the Badlands, which was in 2015, we just did a movie this year in 2021 and we've always stayed in contact. I love Oliver a lot and working with him is always an amazing experience. He's a ridiculously talented and attractive man." She blushed a tiny bit.
Oliver blushed. It was always nice to be appreciated, especially by a close colleague.
"Sounds to me like someone has a big fat crush on Oliver Stark!" Ellen laughed.
Oliver spat out his tea in shock.
Y/n spat out her water in shock.
"A crush? On Oliver? Oh, Ellen, don't be so silly! I do adore him, but as a close colleague." Y/n was blushing like crazy now.
"Oh, darling your blushing face says otherwise!" Ellen chuckled.
Y/n buried her face in her hands, hoping and praying Oliver didn't decide to watch the Ellen Show tonight.
Oliver was also blushing like an idiot. He had actually developed a crush on his beautiful costar during the shooting of their new movie.
"Now that the cat's out of the bag, let's talk about your newest movie with said ridiculously talented and attractive young man." Ellen winked.
Oliver picked up his phone, which was buzzing with notifications from Twitter and Instagram.
There were clips and mentions of Y/n's interview all over his feed, as well as posts from their shippers, who had grown to adore the two young actors and their chemistry.
Oliver's eyes widened. He looked up to see the interview wrapping up, so he decided to take a leap of faith and texted Y/n to ask her out.
Oliver: Hey, Y/n, just wondering if you're free for coffee tomorrow morning.
She texted back almost immediately.
Y/n: You saw the interview, didn't you?
Oliver decided to play dumb. Y/n was not having it.
Oliver: Interview? What interview? You had an interview?
Y/n: ...
Oliver: Okay, yes, I saw your Ellen interview. Anyways, coffee?
Y/n blinked. She let herself hope that he was asking her out.
Y/n: Name the time and place, I'll be there.
Oliver: It's a date!
Oliver hastily sent another message.
Oliver: Well, only if you want it to be.....
Y/n chuckled as she got into her car.
Y/n: It's a date ;)

For winter prompts Joan and Eileen(friends), toboggan
For someone who'd come all the way to Wyoming for a skiing weekend, it was a shocking revelation.
"You can't ski?" They were standing - Dick, Joan, Lewis and Eileen, in the front room of the Warren family cabin, three of the party dressed for the slopes and the last of them ...decidedly not.
Eileen looked, for once in her life, a little embarrassed. "The film was all a lot of stunt doubling and clever camera work and they set me up for all of our promo photos and...well, I can't ski. They were all so excited I was going here because it was a bit of free publicity, you know, meeting the train, and I did want to see you, so I just...agreed."
"Eileen!"
"It's not like there was money growing up for it," she reminded, a little sharp. "Anyway, it's too late to learn and the studio would kill me if I broke a leg, so - it's more après than ski for me, I'm afraid. I shall lounge with my magazine and my hot toddy while you all enjoy yourselves."
"I won't have it," Joan declared. "You're here and we've got the best snowfall we've had all season, and you're going outside to enjoy it, Miss Hammond. Meet me outside in fifteen minutes." She took a look at Lew and Dick, standing by the door dressed for the slopes. "You two can run along," she indicated with an imperial wave of her hand. "I'm sure Dick hasn't forgotten how to get to the trailhead."
"Oh, no," Lewis said with a grin. "This I have to see."
When Eileen came back downstairs, slowly beginning to roast in two sweaters and two pairs of socks, she was met on the steps of the lodge with a triumphant expression and a flourish.
"Your chariot, madam," Joan said with a grin, gesturing to an overlarge sled, obviously a few years out of use but hastily dusted off and oiled up for the occasion. Eileen's eyebrows rose. "One Warren family toboggan - a veteran of many such snowfalls."
The skepticism grew. "Joan, I grew up in California. I can't drive that."
"You won't have to, I'll go with you."
Another raised eyebrow. "Will we fit?"
It was a fair question, and Joan looked at the sled for a moment. "Indecently, yes."
The actress snorted. "Well, Mrs. Winters, look at you. Very well, Ice Queen, lead - Now just one moment, Lewis, what is that?"
It was bad enough that she'd put on ten pounds in sweaters alone without someone getting a photograph of the occasion - and yet here was Lewis, snapping away on his Leica.
"Proof," Lewis said with a grin, emerging from behind the viewfinder. "I'm hoping at some point you two look good enough for a pin-up."
Eileen summoned only mock outrage. "Dick, hit him for me, please."
But Dick could only grin. "Come on," Joan said, giving her husband an outraged look of her own. "Maybe if they behave we'll share."

Hey! I'm glad to hear you don't mind me barging into your ask box without preamble, haha.
Amanda is a complicated character and in my opinion her character arc suffered a bit with the switcheroo of show runners. I don't know if you know this, but Warren Leight, the "creator" of Nick, Amanda, Barba and Carisi, directed the show from seasons 13 to 17. Season 18 was handled by Rick Eid, and seasons 19 and 20 by Michael Chernuchin who introduced Peter Stone to SVU. If you ask me one can tell there is a shift in tone in seasons 19 and 20. Chernuchin has a very different style.
Funnier still, Warren Leight returned as show runner in season 21 and has been directing up till now. So you get to see the visions of three different show runners (as well as who they shipped and who they didn't lol). Also, what priorities everyone had. I always thought some things were dropped after season 17 so I was pleasantly surprised to see them resurface in season 21.
On this note, do you have a favorite season so far? And a favorite character?
(Mine is season 17 with Carisi and Rollins tied as my favorites.)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ @@@@ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ No worries. I love talking to other fans who enjoy the same fandoms and ships that I do. :) As for the switching of showrunners, I didn't know. I made it a point starting a few years ago to not look into anything personal about actors/actresses/musicians or any behind the scenes stuff of my favorite shows because I always find out that bad stuff happened and it ruins my enjoyment of the show or characters on the show. For example, I don't know if you were ever in the Glee fandom, but everything with Cory and Mark killed 95% of my enjoyment of the show. Now, any time I think about Glee, the only things I enjoy are Klaine, Kurt, Blaine, as singular characters, Seblaine (the non-canon pairing of Sebastian and Blaine), Quinntana (though given how things ended with Naya, that's now sad, too), and Quinn and Santana as singular characters.
Also, all the behind the scenes stuff on Chicago PD that Sophia Bush spoke about that had to do with Beghe and the others, has really made me hate the Voight character and it's even interfered with my enjoyment of Upstead (Jay/Hailey pairing, if you didn't know) at times, given that Jesse and Sophia used to date, and now we know he didn't stick up for her when she needed it. Anyway, sorry, got off track there a bit. Wow, that's a good bit of showrunners to go through in a few seasons. And I loved Nick and Barba and now miss them. I'm not yet at the eps where Carisi leaves SVU, but dammit, I'll be there soon enough and it's already making me sad. As for Peter Stone, I liked his character. A few months ago I binged Chicago Justice and am now pissed off that they canned the show after just one season. Also... ANTONIO! *Cries* I loved his character and still miss him after all this time.
I can sort of tell that there has been a different direction going on in some seasons. Like, there was the dark episode where Liv beat the shit out of that guy who had kidnapped her. Another dark one was the episode where she was in the prison and almost got raped. A third dark one was the episode with Ellie's Mom/Noah's Crazy kidnapper Grandma.
Also, there have been seasons where Liv has been a total bitch, and then other seasons where she's super nice. So, I didn't know for sure that things had been changing behind the scenes, but I suspected.
I'm about to watch an ep that has a bit of focus on Carisi and his family. I was about to start watching the ep within the last week, but one of my sisters and two of her kids were moving out, so I spent the whole week and weekend packing up their stuff and helping her/them move into the new house and then falling into bed early each night.
However, I DO hope to watch more eps tomorrow after I finish the last 4 episodes of season 3 of another show I'm binging. Hmm. Favorite season? Favorite character? Tough questions. I really like most of the cast, so it's difficult for me to have one favorite. Liv, Barba, Carisi, Amanda, Nick, and Alex Cabot are my top favorite characters of the show. Fin, Elliot, and Dodds Jr. are my second favorites. Favorite season? A tie between season 15 and season 16.
Season 15 because of episode 22: Reasonable Doubt, where it's implied that Nick and Amanda slept together.
Season 16 because it had Carisi's first appearance, episode 1: Girls Disappeared, and I've liked his character from the beginning.
Chapter Five
Tumblr media
Kai II
"Does everyone understand the mission?" Ransom stared hard in Kai's direction.
Kai scoffed. Just because her attention had drifted off a time or four didn't mean that she was going to be totally lost. "Who needs a debriefing? We're going to do the same thing we always do. I'm going to flirt with everyone until they give me information or get distracted. Ark will slice into their systems and get hard copies of the information we need. You'll be here, masterminding the whole thing."
Ransom stared at her hard for a moment, but Kai met her gaze with ease. Eventually, Ransom gave a little sigh and said, "Yeah, that's pretty much it. But be careful. We've got to get this job right. The merchant's guild has paid us a lot of credits for the information we need. Plus we stand to double our profit if we complete the mission on time. Maybe we should go over the plan again."
"Nah, I've got it," Kai assured her.
Ransom's eyes were like a med-scanner as she used her gift. Kai had always said that Ransom could spot a lie from five klicks with strangers and twice that with friends. Eventually, Ransom must have decided that Kai was telling the truth and nodded. "Fine, but be careful. Are you sure these layout schematics are up-to-date?"
"I'm insulted," Kai jokingly scowled. "Are my schematics ever outdated?"
"No," Ransom begrudgingly admitted. "Even I don't know how you find some of that information."
Kai beamed at the rare praise from her boss.
"You know," Ark started. Kai tensed - there was only one subject that could put that tone in Ark's voice. "We could really use you out in the field on this one, Ransom."
In half a heartbeat, Ransom was as on-edge as both of the other women. "You know that's not an option, Ark." She gave a forced-looking smile and shook her head. "Besides, you don't need me. You're both the best in your respective fields. This mission will be a total success."
The drastic change in mission outlook warned Kai that Ransom was ready to snap. All antics should be cut off immediately.
"Ark and I better go get ready, huh?" Kai said. "Sounds like we need to look the part."
"Comm me when you're ready and I'll activate your earpieces," Ransom said. She always could snap back into professionalism as naturally as taking a breath.
"We will," Kai promised, pulling Ark toward the door. "Ark, bring your outfit to my apartment, would you? You're better at doing hair than I am and I could use your help getting mine to look right."
As soon as they were in the turbolift, Kai puffed out a breath, trying to sound as non-judgmental as possible. "I don't know why you bothered asking her. She never reacts well to it."
Ark looked a little embarrassed. "I was going back over some of her old case files and I just- I got carried away. She was a legend. An actual one. There were stories about how good she was, and she didn't need to divide jobs like we do. She could flirt, slice, get everything she needed, and get out before anyone even realized there was a breach."
"I know, I've read the files, too," Kai reminded her friend. Ransom had been incredible back in the day. Granted, she was impressive now, but before she had stopped going out on jobs? She could have easily run Red Squad alone and made ten times what they were earning now... And then she would have no one to split profits with. "But you're starting to be a bit of a legend yourself… Ghost."
Ark's pale cheeks reddened with the compliment. "I don't even know how that one got started. And it's not good that people know about me at all."
Kai huffed out a breath at her friend. Ark was slender, pale in every sense of the word, and silent. She was also one of the fastest slicers Kai had ever seen… the fastest if they weren't counting Ransom. 'Ghost' was a natural nickname for her. Kai was only jealous that the nature of her designated task meant that she could never get notorious enough for a nickname. Being recognized would be the end of Kai's usefulness to Red Squad.
"Enjoy it, Ark!" Kai encouraged, squashing her own jealousy. "It's a compliment. Speaking of compliments, how is your trooper?"
"You mean Thire?" Ark asked, blushing a bit darker.
Kai chuckled. "Do you have another?"
"No!" Ark shook her head, smiling despite her apparent exasperation. "We talk a lot. Thire is a great guy."
"Are you going to see him again?"
"I'd like to," Ark admitted. "What about you and Thorn?"
"Thorn?" Kai asked, a bit taken aback. "No, nothing going on there. I had fun with him - you know, drinking, watching people on the dance floor, so on - but I don't think there's much of a future in it."
"That's disappointing," Ark said with a frown.
"No, 'disappointing' will be when we aren't ready on time and Ransom kills us both."
A little less than two hours later, both women were ready to go. There was a strange sort of line they had to toe in order to do their job well. Ark had to be dressed to blend in while Kai worked to stand out. All the attention had to be on Kai so that Ark could get in and do her job before anyone noticed what was happening. They had to arrive separately as well. Kai called two different speeders to her apartment, scheduling the second to arrive later than the first.
"So, who hired us again?" Kai asked when she was ensconced in a droid-piloted speeder.
Ransom sighed heavily through the earpiece. "Seriously, Kai? This is why you need to pay attention during briefings."
"The Bespin merchant's guild hired us to find out if the Felucian merchant's guild is spying on them," Ark informed her. Judging by the muted background noise from Ark's earpiece, she was just leaving Kai's apartment.
"They hired spies to see if the other guild hired spies?" Kai asked, chuckling.
"Merchants," Ransom said simply, sounding as if the word had been accompanied by a shrug.
"Arriving at location now," Kai reported. "Estimated entrance: two minutes."
"Two minutes, mark," Ransom replied.
Kai straightened her clothes and took a deep breath before she stepped into the guild hall. It was ornate and overdone, but that was fine: it matched everything she had done with her appearance.
There was a noticeable lull in conversation when Kai stepped inside. She wrestled her smirk into a pleasant smile as she accepted a glass of expensive wine from a serving droid. The form-fitting, low-cut dress floated around her, revealing shapely legs and the most delicate high heels she owned. Her versatile hair was done in a flattering updo. While her makeup was bold, it was tasteful enough that it didn't look overdone.
If Kai was honest, the hardest part of every mission was the pretending. She had to avoid all of the things she actually enjoyed in favor of appealing to onlookers as a sexual fantasy. She had to sip delicately at wine rather than guzzle hard spirits, she could only eat small bits of food that would be sure not to stick in her teeth or ruin her lipstick, and the tightness of her dress meant that she couldn't take a full step… or a full breath.
Being the bait was a nice ego boost, but everything else about it was kind of awful.
Even as Kai mentally tallied the negative aspects of her task, an older, orange-skinned Felucian gentleman sidled up to her. Kai vaguely recognized him as Ollo Set, the head of the Felucian merchant's guild. She continued giving her pasted-on smile.
"Good evening." Considering the height of Kai's towering heels, Set only just reached her chest. Undaunted, the Felucian put on a smile he clearly meant to be charming. "How can such a lovely woman be here alone?"
"Oh, I'm here with someone," she said, doing her best to sound both flirtatious and confused. "He was supposed to meet me here, but I haven't seen him yet."
"Well, whoever the lucky man is, he's a fool to miss even a moment of your radiant company," Set oozed. He took her hand so he could bow - very shallowly - and kiss the back of it.
Kai felt a rush of revulsion. She hated when they touched her. Still, she was a rather incredible actress, if she did say so herself, so she pasted a delicate smile on her lips. "Thank you, sir. It is comforting to find such kindness here, even if my date is later than I would have hoped."
Set patted her hand in a way that managed to be both fatherly and lecherous. "If he does not arrive shortly, I shall show you around myself. Your careless date should not cause you to miss meeting these incredible people."
"I may take you up on that offer! I'm Saro," Kai lied.
"Ollo Set," he returned, adjusting the jeweled cuffs of his jacket. "Leader of the Felucian Merchant's Guild. Pleasure to meet you, Saro. I must leave for a moment, but ask anyone to point you in my direction and you'll have no trouble finding me."
"Oh," she murmured, trying to sound impressed as she fluttered her eyelashes at him. Set watched her for a moment, looking stunned, then turned to meet with a group of well-dressed Felucians. The whole gathering shut themselves in a side room, leaving the party raging on without them.
Under the pretence of adjusting an earring, Kai activated her earpiece. "Meeting of the big guys - metaphorically big, anyway. Ark, what's your ETA?"
"Speeder trouble," Ark said, sounding irritated. "ETA: four minutes."
"Four minutes, mark," Ransom confirmed.
Kai circled through the room, chatting and picking at morsels of food while she kept an eye on the entrance. At least she didn't have to be subtle about it - her cover story allowed her to openly watch the new arrivals without looking suspicious.
"I'm right outside," Ark's voice crackled through the earpiece. "Are they still in the meeting?"
"Yes," Kai breathed, managing to work her answer into the conversation she was having with a drunk Felucian female.
Ark made her entrance seconds later. She wore a mousy brown wig and a tan dress tailored to disguise her slender figure. Carefully applied makeup had lent her colorless skin the appearance of more life. As a result, she didn't stand out overly much from the other humans in the room. Ark glanced at Kai, who subtly tilted her head toward the still-closed door.
With that, Ark made her way toward a hallway. According to the detailed schematics Kai had provided, the hall held both the refreshers and several data access points. At the last moment, a serving droid moved into Ark's way, intending to offer her a glass of wine. Ark, busy double-checking the door, tripped on the droid and flailed to recover her balance. Her small bag fell to the floor, spilling her slicing materials onto the carpet as the service droid beeped around frantically, trying to offer help. Kai watched with more than a little horror as the door to the guild meeting swung open. Ollo Set stepped out first, then paused and frowned over at the commotion caused by the serving droid.
Kai rushed over toward him. "Mr. Set!"
His pale orange gaze swung toward her instead, for which Kai was forever thankful. She had seen Ark starting to gather her tools, any one of which was recognizable as being part of a slicing project. Now, Kai simply had to hold the attention of Set and the other guild members, and she knew exactly how to do it.
Tugging at her dress in apparent distress, Kai revealed a bit more of her chest than she had previously been showing and forced tears to well in her eyes. When she reached Set and the accompanying guild members, she leaned down to speak with him. Her posture allowed the best vantage point for Set to see both the tears and the cleavage.
"What's wrong, my dear?" Set asked, looking first at her chest, then the tears, then her chest again.
"I just received word that my date isn't coming after all. He's stood me up!" she told him, letting one of the tears slip down her cheek. "Is there any chance you're still willing to accompany me this evening?"
"Why, Saro," he oozed, "I would be absolutely delighted. May I introduce the other leaders of the Felucian Merchant's Guild?"
Kai chanced a glance backward as she straightened up once more - leaning down in such a tight dress was killing her spine - and was pleased to watch Ark disappear safely down the hallway. Kai relaxed slightly and put a tearful smile on as she turned to be introduced to the other Felucians.
"Wait, I- I recognize you," one of the Felucians, this one a yellow-skinned female, said haltingly.
The smile slipped from Kai's face, but she had rekindled it a moment later. "Are you sure? I don't think we've ever met."
"I've seen your face somewhere before," the female insisted.
"What are you prattling on about, Ethoda?" Set asked, striving for a tone of boredom and achieving one of irritation.
"She's someone I know, and not in a good way," Ethoda insisted. Kai's stomach gave an odd little twist at the thought that someone had finally recognized her. The Felucian female at last said, "I'm fairly certain she's a prostitute!"
Well, that was unexpected. Kai gaped. "What? I'm not a- I am not a prostitute!"
"That's just what a prostitute would say," one of the other males muttered.
"Which is more likely: a beautiful human woman being interested in Ollo or that she's a prostitute?"
"That makes more sense than anything else I've heard tonight."
"I'll notify the Coruscant Guard," Ethoda offered, rushing away.
And that was that. Admittedly, the mission had been to keep attention away from Ark in whatever way was necessary, but Kai had never expected this to be the outcome. It wasn't the proudest moment of her life, but Kai sat quietly and waited for the Coruscant Guard. The only move she made was to 'fix her hair' and activate the earpiece.
"I can't believe I'm getting arrested for prostitution," she muttered. Ark and Ransom's frantic questions and sounds of outrage provided entertainment until the Coruscant Guard arrived.
A clone trooper in red and white armor marched into the room. "Commander Thorn. What's going on here?"
---
Thorn I
"This woman is a prostitute!"
Thorn was always the first to admit that he wasn't a lighthearted trooper. The laughter and jokes that came easy to his brothers weren't part of his repertoire. Still, even Thorn had gotten a kick out of the accusations that were being thrown Kai's way. It had taken him a minute or so to recognize her - especially with a group of Felucians insisting that her name was Saro - but her look of dread at his entrance had been a solid clue.
He had taken down the eyewitness details of the incident with care. Keeping his voice level was tricky, but no one could hear the mocking he knew was clear in his expression. When the long-winded Felucians finished talking, Thorn closed the document so he could place binders on Kai's wrists and lead her to his cruiser.
"I'll take her to the precinct," he told the Felucians.
He had to shut down the external speakers on his helmet when the leader of the group - an orange-skinned male who had introduced himself as 'Ollo Set', followed them outside. As he fixed Kai with a stern gaze and he said, "Let this be a lesson to you, young lady: there is no substitute for an honest day's work", Thorn laughed aloud.
Rather than risk reactivating his speaking and giving away the game, Thorn had nodded to acknowledge Set's thanks. He steered Kai into the back of the cruiser as soon as he could and settled into the front seat himself. They were in the air waiting to enter traffic when he finally thought it was safe to remove his bucket.
As he reached for the familiar plastoid curves, Kai snapped, "This is ridiculous. You know I'm not a prostitute."
Thorn broke the seal that had formed between his blacks and his helmet before answering. "Of course I know that. Do you think I leave the code to my binders in the backseat with every perp?"
"Oh," she said, ire deflating as she grabbed the scrap of flimsi and awkwardly typed the written code into the binders. "Then why-?"
"If I hadn't brought you in for a false claim like prostitution, they may have come up with something more difficult to fight." He met Kai's eyes in the rearview mirror. "Like industrial espionage."
There was no answer from the backseat and Thorn abruptly found the whole situation less amusing than he had previously. Industrial espionage was a nasty business, and he wasn't thrilled to find that Kai was wrapped up in it.
"Care to explain what you were doing at the headquarters for the Felucian merchant's guild?" he asked.
She sighed, looking conflicted. "What do you want to know?"
"Everything. As long as it's the truth. I don't like listening to lies."
"Hey," she said, leaning forward with an offended look on her face. "I don't lie."
Thorn snorted. "You want to try feeding that line to the crowd of civvies back there who told me all about 'Saro'?"
"I lie at work because it's literally my job," Kai snapped. "I don't have a choice there, but I do everywhere else. I am not a liar."
"So your job is to lie and you wear revealing clothing while you do so," Thorn mused. "Are you sure you're not a prostitute?"
"I'm on an information securities team called Red Squad," she told him irritably. "We were hired to get intelligence from the Felucian merchant's guild."
"And they sent you in alone?" Thorn asked with an unfortunate chuckle.
"No, I wasn't there by myself," Kai admitted. "But I couldn't stay, not after having attracted that much attention. I don't even know if the mission was a success or not."
"Another private sector success, then," he said, sarcasm thick in his voice. "I take it that jobs don't always end this way?"
She snorted. "Believe it or not, this is the first time I've ever been arrested under suspicion of being a prostitute."
"It's a small and glorious club," he said. "It also signals the need for a career change. Ever thought about doing anything else? This espionage thing may not be your strong suit."
She grew quiet and Thorn saw her turn to stare out of the window. His heart skipped a beat. Stars, don't let her start crying... He felt an unusual wave of pity wash over him. Kai's day had clearly gone wrong and here she was being taken away from a formal event in the back of a police cruiser. Plus, Thorn's vode had always told him he could be abrasive, so chances were good that he wasn't helping matters.
"Hey, I'm not going to charge you with anything. Why don't you give me your address and I'll drive you home?"
"You can just drop me off here," she said frostily. "I can find my own way home."
"The kriff you will," he shut down immediately. "It's almost midnight. Coruscant isn't safe for civvies dressed like you are at this time of night."
"Maybe at the next intersection," Kai suggested, pretending she hadn't heard him.
"Maybe I'll take you to the precinct after all," Thorn threatened. "That way, I won't be responsible if you end up attacked or killed for walking through dangerous parts of the planet at night, looking like a-"
He cut himself off and Kai leaned forward, a challenging look on her pretty face. "Like a prostitute?"
Actually, he had been about to say that she looked like royalty, but her tart response knocked some sense back into him. "Yeah," he agreed instead. "Something like that."
"You're impossible," she told him, sounding tired. "Just… take me home."
She gave him the address, but Thorn could hardly hear it over the pounding of his heart. Kai probably hadn't meant for her words to sound inviting - far from it - but they had caused a pang of something long-buried in his memory. The feeling of home hadn't been one emphasized in flash training or any day since, but he had always imagined it would be the way he felt when he had heard Kai's request.
Still, he forced his mind back to his duty and plugged Kai's address into the navicomputer on his cruiser. Shortly afterward, they had arrived at a plain-looking building. Kai still hadn't said another word to him, which frustrated Thorn for some reason. They may not have exchanged comlink info like Thire and his girl had, but Thorn and Kai had gotten along at 79's. He couldn't remember a time he had laughed harder than when she drunkenly told an equally drunken Nikto that he had "scored a perfect 30" on the dance floor.
Deciding to make things right once and for all, Thorn shut off the cruiser and got out to open Kai's door.
"Thank you, Commander," she said stiffly. "Drive safe on your way back to the precinct."
"Hold on, let me walk you inside," he offered, injecting enough suffering into his tone that she would think it was a punishment. She didn't say anything to encourage him, but she didn't say he couldn't accompany her, either.
So Thorn found himself following Kai down two flights of narrow stairs to her housing unit. When they arrived at the door, he noted an odd lock keeping it closed. Still, he thought little of it until Kai also frowned and made a confused little sound.
Every instinct Thorn had demanded that he act. In half a second, he had grasped Kai around the waist, spun to place her behind him, and drawn one of his blaster pistols. He ignored Kai's questions and focused on the area, but his HUD wasn't showing any signs of potentially hostile lifeforms. More importantly, the strange lock wasn't bringing up any warnings.
"What's on your door?" he demanded, still scanning their surroundings.
"It's a lock," Kai explained slowly.
"I figured that," Thorn's response was dry. "What kind of lock and who put it there?"
"How do you know I didn't?"
"Body language, tension, and observation, now focus," Thorn commanded. "Who put that lock on your door?"
"Probably Ark," Kai admitted with a sigh. "It's for me to practice slicing."
The answer was so far beyond anything Thorn had been expecting that he actually let the barrel of his blaster drop toward the floor as he turned to face her. He repeated, "Slicing?"
"Yeah, I'm over-" Kai stopped her sentence halfway through. "You know what? I don't want to explain this to you."
"Do it anyway," Thorn advised. "Because I'm not leaving, otherwise."
She crossed her arms, kicking up her chin. Right as Thorn thought he would have to press her again, Kai said quietly, "I'm sick of being the bait. I want to do something useful, like slicing, but I'm not very good at it. Ark is trying to teach me and she's big on practice. She bought me this lock and said it would give me motivation to learn."
"So, she put a practice slicing lock on the door to your apartment. You would have to use your new skill to get inside," Thorn summarized. It sounded like something that his vode would do. He silently supported the endeavor even as he mentally noted the implication that Kai and Ark worked as some kind of team.
Still, Thorn holstered his blaster and gestured at the door. He took a step to the side so she could access the lock. "Well, go ahead. Slice."
Kai looked at him, eyes severe. "I'm not any good at it and I'm tired. Do you know anything about slicing?"
"Not a thing," said Commander Thorn of the GAR, official head of the department overseeing arrests and difficult extractions that often included slicing.
"I could get a hotel room for tonight…" she mused.
Thorn rolled his eyes. She was as dramatic as Hound. "Or you could just try it. Your friend wouldn't put an unsliceable lock on your door, would she?"
"Probably not," Kai agreed with palpable reluctance. She sighed and pulled a small set of tools out from behind a potted plant in the hallway as Thorn watched with growing amusement.
Kai placed the scramble key on the back of the lock, but it was backwards and wouldn't work. "What are you doing?"
"Unlocking the door? I'm pretty sure," Kai told him, poking at the lock. "I don't know why the key isn't registering, though."
"Explain the process to me," he invited.
She turned to stare at him, seeming shocked. "You want me to teach you how to slice?"
"Why not?" Thorn asked. "Teaching a skill is one of the best ways to see if you've learned it."
"Fine," Kai huffed. "First, you attach the scramble key to the back of the lock… oops. That's definitely backwards. Anyway! Once the system has registered the key, it can start running possible combinations. Then your only job is to keep the security systems from booting you out."
Thorn watched the process, trying not to smile as Kai clumsily shut down security checks and shutdown attempts. Her methods weren't pretty, but they were effective, and the lock dropped from the door after a few minutes of work.
He retrieved the lock and the scramble key for her, taking a moment to study the key close-up. Thorn hadn't seen anything like it before. That was impressive, considering how much of his job revolved around slicing attempts. The key was homemade, like all the best scramble keys were, but on a level that told him how well the maker understood the process of slicing.
"Interesting key," he commented, hiding his interest. "Where did you get it?"
Kai glanced at it, unimpressed. "Ark gave it to me. She said it was trustworthy."
So Ark was a slicer. If she had been the one who made that key, she was kriffing good at it, too. Thorn made a mental note to ask Thire about the woman he had been spending so much time talking to. A moment later, that and all other coherent thoughts left his mind as Kai turned back and asked, "Do you want to come inside?"
He stared at her, dark brows furrowed. "You don't like me."
"I don't like when you mock me," she corrected. "But I like you just fine. Plus, you aren't arresting me when we both know you could. I think that's worth a cup of caf. Maybe even a cookie."
"Maybe even two cookies," he joked, following her into the apartment.
Kai gave a teasing scoff over her shoulder. "Let's not get ahead of ourselves."
---
A/N - Poor Kai. That would have to be a pretty hefty blow to your ego! Good thing Thorn was the one to respond - even if he did lie about knowing how to slice. On that note, do you know who knows nothing about slicing? Me. So if anyone is an expert about the process and this reads poorly, I'm sorry! I just started playing Republic Commando and did a lengthy skim on the Wikipedia page about slicing, but that's the extent of my knowledge.
Sorry to put this in your inbox but you're the sanest person around and I need to vent. I just don't understand h*sies at this stage. They talk about rep and how they're fighting so hard to be seen in media but completely ignore finsie at best and hate on them/Finch at worst. Don't they know that makes them look crazy and entitled? "We just want rep!" "But you have some" "that's the wrong rep"???? And isn't this a win anyway? Isn't the end goal of getting queer rep that they can exist and leave without going through a tragedy or dying? Josie got deep love interests as well as her own storyline and was a main character and now the actress wants to leave. Its that simple. The writers were even decent enough to keep Finch alive and not make Josie leave cause she's grieving Finch or worse, kill Josie herself. Idk it just makes no sense and all their raving sounds so dumb. Even if they had been queerbaited (which is also dumb but whatever) this is probably the nicest way I've seen that handled too? They didn't have Josie completely cut off Hope for no real reason or pair her with a man to "stop the allegations" they just had her leave. Ugh okay, that's it. Have a nice day 💛
mflsdflskdmf 'you're the sanest person around' made me laugh'.
anyway, the only thing i'll say in my usual 'to be fair' answers, just because there is rep doesn't mean its good rep. HOWEVER, josie had multiple female love interests in the show. finsie happened quickly, yes, but so did every single relationship ever on legacies. handon happened quickly, raf and lizzie happened quickly, lizzie and sebastian happened quickly, josie and landon happened quickly. i don't think they ever purposely avoided the slow burn to give us bad rep, i just think legacies is a little 'meh' at showing the slow burn, which is fine! what really bothers me is when they compare kaylee leaving out of her own volition to the kill your gays trope — i've already seen them compare hosie to clexa and tara and willow on buffy, which is not even close to being the case.
i once saw someone tag one of my posts with: you weren't queerbaited. you shipped a thing and then an actress left. it's really not that deep. and i agree. what's funny is, they talk about how bad they were queerbaited since s1 and @'d the writers and @'d brett about it, to the point where brett said they would be 'more mindful' about queerbait on the show and then they barely had hope and josie interact for a season and a half. but then that's also queerbait to them apparently. i don't know. i don't get it either. i think the josie sendoff was handled gracefully. they gave her a nice exit and left the possibility of her coming back open-ended, so, you're right.
A/N: Hello! This is the first part of Lay all your love on me. You can find the next parts on my pinned masterlist here.
MASTERLIST
Your last day on set has finally arrived. It's amazing how time flies when you're busy doing things you really love, surrounded by magnificient people. It makes you forget about your every day routine and to have some fun from time to time.
Everybody was getting their make-up done for the last day of filming. As you entered the trailer in order to get yours done, a sweet, delicate voice called you.
"(Y/n)! Are you ready for our last day?" Lucy asked with a bright smile on her face while sitting on her personalized black chair, which had her name written at the back.
You smiled. "To be honest, I'm not doing too well, I'm gonna miss you guys so much." You said with a pouty face. Lucy said she would miss all of you too.
“Oh, nice baby bump!”
You furrowed your brows but then you remembered. You were wearing a fake silicone belly, since your character was going to be pregnant in that scene.
“Yeah, he’s kicking so hard.” You joked.
You sat on your chair as your assistant helped you put your wig.  You laughed at your reflection in the mirror. "I still can't used to this wig." You found it odd to wear a blonde wig.
“At least they didn’t give you a perm!” Joe appeared holding two cups of coffee on each of his hands. “Here you have, my wonderful wife.” he approached you and gave you one of the cups. You laughed at his comments.
“Thank you, Mr. Deacon.” You thanked him and left a kiss on his cheek.
Joe bringing you coffee on set every morning became a habit, one you were very delighted with. He was so kind with you that you swore your heart could just melt for every little thing he did for you.
And while drinking your coffee, you remembered your very first day on set and how you and Joe started talking.
Filming had already started by your first day on set. Today, you would meet the entire cast of the wonderful movie you were going to take part in. You felt an overwhelming joy for being part of such an incredible project, not only because it was a big step in your career as an actress, but also because you were a Queen fan. And it was your very first time in London.
Your very first scene was Freddie’s birthday party. You greeted all of your new cast mates before paying attention to the director’s indications.
You sat between two of your cast mates. One of them was wearing a long-haired blonde wig and the other a long-haired brown one with a strange fringe. You were wearing a wig as well. It was a black-haired one with a fringe and low pony tails falling over your shoulders. Your eyes had a beautiful emerald eye-shadow which you weren’t very comfortable with but you didn’t care, you were another person now, it was your job.
As they started filming, you kept a conversation with the actor that played John Deacon’s role, your husband, of who you didn't remember his name. You smile at each other and them you both joined the conversation that the others were having about Freddie’s life as his mom stood up and looked for family pictures.
The director decided to take some breaks in between the scenes. It was a good opportunity to introduce yourself and to make some new friends.
“Hey, nice to meet you. I’m Ben.” said the blonde one who was next to you and you told him your name. The other actors joined him and all of you started talking. There was something strange in one of them, the one who was next to you and introduced himself as Joe. Why was he talking so weird?
“Why are you doing a bad American accent?” You asked him laughing. He furrowed his eyebrows and opened his mouth but didn’t say anything, he looked as if he was trying to find the words to say. “B-but, t-that’s my voice.” he said confused.
“Oh shit, I’m so sorry.” You said and covered your face with your hands. That’s why you don’t have friends, stupid, you said to yourself.
Your face was burning and you felt absolutely embarrassed. How long have you been on set? Three hours? And you were already causing trouble.
He laughed. “Nevermind. What an awesome compliment. I mean, I’ve been working on it so hard and you thought that I was actually British but...What’s wrong with my voice? I think it’s a pretty convincing American accent. Anyway, thanks for the compliment.”
“I’m really really sorry, I don’t know why I said that.” Your face was still red. You wished the Earth would swallow you, you wanted to disappear from his sight. He put his hand on your shoulder.
“Hey, you don’t need to apologize. I really meant what I’ve said, it was a nice compliment, I’m prouder of myself now!” He assured you and gave you an expression that indicated everything was okay and there wasn’t anything bad at what you had said, he wasn’t mad at that.
You weren’t very convinced but after getting closer to him the following days, you realized that he was telling you the truth and there wasn’t anything you should worry about. After that, you both talked about each other’s lives. You found out he lived in New York, just as you. He was from there but you were from New Jersey. You told him how you ended up moving to New York to study and work on your acting career. Since that day, you both became very good friends. And the same thing happened with Ben, Gwilym, Rami and Lucy, you became close to them because of your new friendship with Joe.
“Let’s take a picture for Instagram.” Joe suggested. You stood next to him, with your right hand covering half of your mouth showing surprise and Joe put one of his hands on your fake belly and the other did the same as yours.
Lucy took the photo.
@Joe_Mazzello: Say hi to the Deacon family! @(y/n)(y/s/n) #BohemianRhapsody #Queen #DeaconFamily
~
The director was giving the last indications for the scene. We will rock you. You were on a sofa next to Joe, having a conversation as Ben did the same with the actress who played his wife and the one who was Gwilym’s wife sat there looking at him, while he was looking at Rami, completely annoyed. The girls were very good actresses but unfortunately, they weren’t very close to the rest of the cast and won’t be joining the future tour press since they have another projects in the pipeline.
“You look so funny in that blonde wig.” Joe teased you, knowing that you hated it.
Actually, Joe wanted to tell you that you looked beautiful, as always, but he wasn't bold enough to do it.
"Shut up or I'll take your wig off." You threatened him, he mocked you and rested his head on your shoulder.
And after that, Gwilym ordered everybody to join him. He came up with the beat of a new song he had been working on. Suddenly, all of you were clapping your hands at the third beat as Rami appeared and apologized for being late. He asked what was going on and Gwilym explained he wanted to give the audience a song they could perform and be part of it and you all began to sing and clap your hands.
"Cut!" The director shouted.
And everything was done. There were no scenes left, nothing else. After that, Rami suggested to go and have coffee. All of you were sat on the floor and drinking your coffee.
"I can't believe it's our last day." You said.
"I still remember the very first time you were on set." Gwilym said. "And the odd American accent." he moved his gaze from you to Joe and laughed.
"Oh no, please, I'm still ashamed of that." You begged him not no bring that back.
Memories from set were mentioned as you took a sip of coffee. You had a big smile on your face as you remembered probably one of the best days of your life and the best memory on set.
"Who's coming over?" You asked Rami, who was taking his crown off and put in on your head, you laughed.
"I don't know, darling. Maybe some fans." He shrugged. He got used to talking like Freddie.
After Freddie's party scene in Garden Lodge, the director suggedted to take a break and said that they had some guests on set that day.
"I thought we were going to film the I want to break free music video now." Gwilym said thoughtful with his hand on his chin.
"Hey mates, look who are here today!" Ben said as he, Joe and Lucy stood next to you, Rami and Gwilym and pointed at the door.
You couldn't believe your eyes when you saw them.
Brian May and Roger Taylor were a few feet away from you. Brian and Roger, from Queen, your favorite band, your idols.
"Hey folks, How are you doing today?" Asked Brian with a charming smile.
Everybody greeted them but you. You were in shock, your face was as white as a sheet and your jaw was slacked. Lucy seemed to notice you and held your hand.
Joe put his hand in your back and rubbed it softly. “Let’s go outside and catch some fresh air.”
“Hey, who’s this pretty lady?” Roger asked. He took off his black glasses.
“(Y/n) are you okay?” Lucy asked worried and the four men next to you turned to look.
Oh God, you were absolutely nervous. Never in your craziest dreams you thought about having this opportunity. You knew that Brian and Roger sometimes visited the set but you didn’t think they would do it a day you were there.
“I-I-I’m (Y/n)...” you extended your shaky hand. “Oh sorry for this, but I’m a big fan of Queen and...Oh God I can’t believe it!” Roger laughed and took your hand and shook it. You thought you were going to faint. You could feel your knees weaken.
“No! I’m okay” You were shaking.
“Wow, it’s nice to meet you. I’ve seen some pictures of you here on set with these amazing people, you’re doing amazing.” He said and Brian nodded.
“We’re finally meeting!” Brian said and you smiled with watery eyes.
Joe wondered what made you deal with so much pain, you'd never said anything about that. He felt his heart broke at the mere thought of you being in pain.
Brian and Roger were absolutely grateful for your words.
“I feel like I’m dreaming.” You laughed nervously. “You guys don’t have an idea of how much I appreciate you, your music helped me to heal so much pain and I will be forever grateful for that. I wanna show you something.” You said as you uncover your left wrist from your sleeve. You had a beautiful butterfly tattooed and under it, a lyric from one of your favorite songs by Queen, Spread your wings. “I’ve had this for over 12 years now and one of my biggest wishes was to show it to both of you someday and to thank you for everything."
“I’m glad our music help you in any possible way.” Brian said “And your tattoo is amazing. John would be very pleased If he saw it” You smiled.
“I love it.” Roger said. “Hey Bri, why don’t we take a photo with her for Instagram?”
“That would be nice.”
Oh my God.
"Let me be your photographer." Rami asked Brian for his phone and took some photos of your tattoo and others of you with them. A few minutes after that, your phone buzzed. Queen has tagged you on a post.
@OfficialQueenMusic: “So glad to meet a fan today that will be part of our upcoming movie. Thank you for sharing your story with us @(y/n)(y/s/n) #BohemianRhapsody”
That was, by far, the best day of your entire life.
“Hey, come back to Earth, where are you?” Ben asked moving a hand in your face. You shook your head.
“I was thinking about the first time I met Brian and Roger.” You blushed and he laughed.
“Oh, the day you almost pass out” Ben joked and you slapped him on his arm. “Hey, Am I telling a lie?”
“Of course I almost pass out, my eyes were lucky to see Brian and Roger in person.” You and Ben giggled.
“I’m going to miss you, do you know that?” Ben asked.
“So do I!” You hugged him. Smiling. "You know I'm going to visit you."
Those weeks on set made you realize how lucky you were to find such incredible people. After years and years of being alone in your misery. After the countless nights you cried yourself to sleep and feeling like a piece of shit for being so alone in this world, everything was making sense now.
You never told them about what you had been through. Being a teenager wasn’t easy. You wanted people to destroy the concept that your teenage years are supposed to be fun and those are the best years of your life because when you hit your late 20s, responsibilities are hard to manage and everything seems to be falling apart. Why couldn’t you be happy now?
Now, that you were 30, that everything was left behind. You wished you could say that you were a happy teenager and you didn’t have to fake a smile and pretend everything was okay. There were days you barely could get out of your house and see other people, or even worse, some days you couldn’t get out of bed and shower because there wasn’t any motivation at all. And no one understood. No one knew how hard it was being you, having such an stressful life that you worried about every little thing and it seemed you would never be at peace. You never felt safe. How hard it was to interact with others without thinking that they just did it to be nice to you or that they were desperately waiting for you to shut your fucking mouth. Isolation didn’t feel right. Loneliness didn’t feel right. Nothing felt right at all. You couldn’t keep pretending to be happy, you needed a reason to keep holding on, something that made you believe that your life was going to change, you wanted to be back on your feet and to know that all of that pain was gone.
Maybe it wasn’t so hard to be you, and eventually, you would find out where you belonged. You felt it was taking forever and you couldn’t wait for things to get better. You knew that someday things would be better and that your day would come. Sometimes you wished someone would save you, but you knew that you had to save yourself. If only you could find what you've been looking for. "How could this happen to me? "was the only thing that was always on your mind. You were sick of this life, you wanted to scream. You felt out of place, you were sick of feeling so left out.
And at that moment, you knew that your 18-year-old-self would be proud of you. Proud of the woman you had become and that now, all of your worries were left behind. You didn’t have to worry about that again, but it was still hard to open your heart and tell people about it. You weren’t embarrassed, it was part of you, part of your story but you didn’t want people to pity you.
You didn’t realize you were almost crying until Joe spoke.
“What’s going on?” He hugged you. Your vision was blurry, it was difficult for you to see clearly. You wiped your tears with your thumb and you chuckled.
“I’m very emotional today. I’m grateful for everything that this movie brought me, especially the five of you.”
There was a broad smile on Joe’s face. “Well, I’m glad you say that because you won’t get rid of me so easily, huh?” He joked. Joe always knew how to make you smile. But he was right, you lived like 30 minutes away from him, you would see each other everyday. “I have a list of places we’re visiting after coming back to New York.”
“That’s why I love you.” You hugged him again. He smiled.
Joe felt something on his chest. He wished that I love you meant something else than being loved as a friend, but at the same time, he didn’t want to feel like this, he didn’t want to be in love again. Since his last girlfriend cheated on him with his friend, he couldn’t feel anything for someone. All of his dates failed and he decided to take some time for himself.
But there was something Joe couldn’t deny, when you were near, everything seemed so easy, he could look into your eyes and forget the world.
“I love you even more.”
Ok, so I haven't been able to comment much on my Riverdale rewatch mostly bc i'm watching it with my boyfriend and we have an agreement of no cell phones when we're watching, otherwise we can't pay proper attention to it. But I wrote down some notes about the episodes I did watch (I watched up until ep 6, which is very ironic bc apparently today is its anniversary, so yay for my perfect timing). I actually remember most of the stuff that happened in s1, so here's mostly a few things I paid more attention to or noticed about the characters and the ships, or things i'm able to look at through a different view now that i've watched all the seasons. Strap in if you want to see my notes, if not just scroll please, no ship or character hate here please. Also, feel free to ignore, this is really just a personal look in some stuff I didn't notice in my first watch.
- Betty's character used to be much happier and lighter in season 1. I know we're introduced to "Dark Betty" right in episode 3, but still, I feel like the way Lili played Betty in season 1 did not hold the same "darkness" as it does in the following seasons. The scene where she is dancing happily in her bedroom because she's going to homecoming with the boy she likes? The scene where she introduces Jughead to the Blue & Gold and gets him to work with her? Her genuine innocent happiness at seeing her sister again after so much time? The way she interacted with Kevin and Veronica? Those were all chef's kiss because she actually feels like a teenager in them. In all her girly glory, she radiates youth energy and it's a thing that was sadly lacking after s1. Btw this is not a critique at Lili's acting at all, I blame it entirely on Ras and his obsession with dark Betty.
- There's actually so many indications of Cheryl being a lgbt character in the first episodes that I have no idea how I missed it the first time. But then again, there were many indications with Veronica as well, and sadly that's not the path Ras chose for her.
- Jughead in s1 is truly so superior in so many ways that it's not hard to see why he quickly became such a fan favorite. I think even if he wasn't played by Cole Sprouse, he still would have conquered many fans' hearts. Sadly, the things that made Jughead such a loving and interesting character for me also fizzled out in s2 when the writing team decided to make him a woke serpent leader instead of allowing him to sticking to his true personality as a passionate mystery lover, a dedicated friend and very nerdy, which was very cute. I feel that we got some of that back for him in s4, which was good, but sadly s1 is where my love for him really stayed to stay. But I still care for him, and s5 has a promising storyline for him which i'm excited about, so let's see if s5 Jughead can become better than s1 Jughead.
- Going back again to Cheryl for a sec, I just noticed that the red lipstick actually wasn't that common for her in s1? At least not in the first five. I wonder when did it start becoming her trademark? Anyways, it's actually a really good look her and allows you to appreciate Madelaine's natural beauty even more.
- Also, did anybody notice how Alice lowkey figured out who killed Jason in ep 2 lmao, like... in episode two she legit says she wouldn't be surprised if the Blossoms themselves had killed Jason, which... is what happened LMAO, considering we know it was his father. And even more hilarious and tragically ironic note, in ep 6 she's laughing at Betty suggesting that Hal killed Jason because "do you think your father has the stomach for it?!"... Ma'am... i'm-.... 😂😂😂😂.
- This rewatch has reminded me of how much I adored and how I much I miss Josie and the Pussycats. The girls were such a nice addition to the cast, and their songs were so beautiful. I truly wish we get to see them again someday, but at the same time I also think the actresses deserve to be at a work place where they're given the treatment they deserve and not completely ignored and treated like extras.
- Archie/Valerie was super cute and is very underrated in the fandom, but i'm glad Valerie stood up for herself and didn't take any of Archie's or Cheryl's sh*t. Still sucks because they were really good together, though.
- Why was Jason not allowed to talk, lmao? Like, i'm sure it's become a running joke in the show at this point, but back when season one was airing what was the excuse for it? He appeared in so many flashbacks and scenes and we still never heard a single word ☠️☠️☠️☠️. I just want to know what was the reason lol.
- I liked s1 Reggie, but I feel like Charles Melton's Reggie is better because he actually feels like a douche with good intentions lol, and he has more of a personality. Most of the time I even forgot about Reggie in s1, but after s2 he definitely made me more aware of him. So for that, I like Charles Melton's Reggie more. But the actor from s1 still did a good job with what he was given.
From now on I will be talking about the ships, so bear with me, and know that I am a multishipper. Yes, I have my preferences. No, my word is not law, it's just an opinion, so please respect it.
- Bughead is still super cute in s1. I feel like from s1 they will always be my otp, even if I no longer feel as strongly about them now and have a different insight as to where I would like their story to go, and now I definitely see the problem others had mentioned before of how they kind of took over the show, which is something I kind of closed my eyes to before... But I really loved them in s1. It felt like a very juvenile teenage relationship, they didn't give much thought on why and if they should be together, they just went for it like teenagers usually do, and they were very very cute together.
- I feel like if you don't count Beronica (because they really were the best no matter what you say or ship), if there's a ship that deserves "best chemistry" award for s1 is probably Varchie. I lost my interest in them years ago, but this rewatch reminded me of why I actually loved them once. They never really became an otp for me, but Kj and Camila's chemistry in s1 was VERY GOOD, and I really liked them. Their kiss in the pilot was electric and the s&xual tension was OOF, and that chemistry carries on through the season. You can easily tell something will happen between them eventually. It makes me sad bc I don't know what happened after s1, but their chemistry from s2 onwards was just... not there for me. Which is ironic bc it's the season they truly started dating and they got a lot of smexy scenes, but I just... didn't feel it. But I'll leave that comment to my s2 rewatch. For now just let me enjoy Varchie's chemistry in s1 while it lasts because it was really good.
- Now we get to Barchie, who I made clear was the reason for my rewatch, so let's get to it. I LOVED the way Barchie was written in s1. I remember when I first watched Riverdale, I was curious about their dynamic but didn't put much thought into it because I loved Bughead too much and wanted them to be together, and I thought Barchie would be the traditional "first og ship" thing and wouldn't have a big follow up, but boy was I WRONG and am I GLAD for it. I'll talk more about their development in the next seasons when I get there, so for now let's focus a bit on s1. Just in like the first two episodes, there is so much Barchie foreshadowing, like, it's legit insane how it was right there in my face and I missed it the first time! "I have never felt what i'm supposed to feel with betty", "it's not my fault he doesn't like you", "I can't give you the answer you want"... Omg, those are obvious eyebrow raising "this will come back to bite you in the a$$" moments and it's incredible how they actually DO! I would call it clever writing, but like... it's Riverdale lol. So I really am just glad that the ship was done this way, i'm glad Barchie has the back story that they do, they've really come a LONG way and i'm happy I get to experience their whole growing storyline. It's also especially good because s1 actually provides you with scenes that show you their friendship and how they're so close, you see them hanging out, talking, their pictures together, everything was just really done well with them. Still have a bit of critique with the way Archie contradicted himself sometimes regardinf his feelings for Betty, but let's be honest, we've watched enough Riverdale to know that's just a problem with the writing.
- Kevin/Joaquin is still my favorite Kevin ship, i'm sad it's completely impossible to go back to them someday so for now i'll just be really glad it existed and that I got to see them even if it was short-lived. They had great chemistry and their kiss scenes always outsold.
- Beronica... sigh. Beronica. The most wasted chemistry i've ever seen on CW and I've watched a LOT of CW shows. There was so much potential there, s1 was practically overflowing with them and it's one of the reasons it became some popular. I remember when the Beronica fandom was the biggest one, ah, good times. Veronica and Betty were easily the best part of season 1, their friendship, their lowkey romantic moments, they were just superior in every way. This ship deserved better, not even just as a ship, but as a friendship.
- Veronica's s1 hair >>> Veronica's hair in seasons 2-4. I loved the side part and I am glad it's back in season 5, it looks so much better like that.
- Cheryl, as always, deserves better. Can't wait for her to meet Toni so I can watch again Cheryl finally get to love someone and be loved back, which is exactly what she deserves.
For now, that is all! I will probably make another post soon when i'm done with season one and from season two on I will be live-blogging the episodes since I will be watching it alone. Once again, pls, no hate, my thoughts are my thoughts. Peace.
Part 15 Part 17
Part 16
Liam cooked us a chicken stir-fry with Asian vegetables for dinner. I was mildly surprised that he was such a good cook and told him so. He said he had to learn pretty quickly in the early days of his career when he would go months without a paying job.
"I was lucky. My parents were supportive, so I knew I wouldn't starve, and they would give me money if I asked. I didn't want to, though. I felt like if I had to ask for money, then I was a failure. It motivated me to go to more auditions, prepare better, take some classes to get more skills, perfect my accents."
I admired him for that. From what I knew about his family, they seemed to be wealthy. It would have been easy for him to rely on them while trying to make it.
Liam had told me a lot about his family. He was very close to his two brothers. It seemed like he was a bit of a mummies boy, and I supposed that comes from being the youngest. He seemed to credit his Dad for his love of stories and his desire to act.
"Have you told them about me? Your family, I mean." I asked a bit hesitantly, unsure how I'd feel if he said no.
I shouldn't have worried though, his huge smile said it all. "I told Mum about you over a month ago."
"We hadn't even met yet."
"I know," Liam sounded a bit bashful as he continued. "My Mum kept saying how happy I sounded. I kept dropping hints that she thought I was seeing someone. She's very good at reading me. She hounded me until I told her."
"What did she say?"
"She was surprised we hadn't met. I spoke to her during the week a few times and told her we'd met, and it went well, and we'd seen each other the whole weekend. It was a bit awkward like I said. She knows me too well. She said, 'You mean you spent the weekend shagging.'"
"Oh, my God!" I was so embarrassed. "What did you say? She's going to think I'm the town bike."
"She wasn't judging, by the way. She was worried about how you would react to me. She was happy because she felt like I shouldn't have used Simons photos."
"She's not wrong," I said.
"I know, I know. Do I have to apologise again?"
"No, just don't do it again."
He briefly grinned but then looked at me, his face and tone serious. "Hopefully, I'll never have to."
I didn't know how to respond to that. What did he even mean by that? I didn't ask. I wasn't sure if I wanted to know. I cleared my throat. "Is that all she said?" I asked, instead.
Liam opened his mouth and was about to say something before closing his mouth and trying again. "Well, then she saw the photos and stories about us. I tell her not to read that stuff because most of it is rubbish. But she does. Anyway, she said we looked lovely together and..." he paused before continuing. "And she can't wait to meet you in a few months. She's coming for a visit in late June early July for my two-week hiatus."
I almost asked what he was going to say, but I changed my mind. "What about your brothers? Your Dad?"
"Well, my Dad isn't much of a talker when it comes to relationships. But he did say Mum had shown him your picture and that you seemed like a nice girl. Other than that, he didn't comment. He rarely does unless he thinks someone isn't good for me."
"Is he coming with your mum?"
"Only for one week. My mum will stay for nearly three. My brothers well..." he grinned. "You know what brothers are like. We are rarely serious together. Also, we rarely call each other. We mostly keep in contact through group chats." His lip twitched as he said, 'there were a lot of ginger jokes this week."
I could only imagine what those chat logs contain. I rolled my eyes at the thought. "The bastards," I said.
Liam laughed then asked, "what about your family?"
"I haven't told them much. Dave knows a bit. I haven't told Mum anything." I shifted in my seat. "Dave knew I was seeing someone after I asked him to watch Perrin. But he didn't ask questions. Then on Friday, he found out it was you. He seemed ok with it." I brightened and said, "they will know all about you next week anyway."
Liam returned my smile.
After dinner, we went to bed. We both read for a while. Liam sat up with his back against the headboard while I laid on my back, using his chest as a pillow. I read until I fell asleep.
I grew to hate Sundays.
Sunday's meant my time with Liam was coming to a close. This Sunday had a silver lining because I would only have to wait until Thursday to see him again. This only partially comforted me because it was also the premiere. As the time drew closer, I knew I'd regret saying yes.
I sat with my head in my hands in the store's dressing room. Just picking which dresses to try on had been an ordeal. I had done a quick google search that morning to see what kind of dresses people wore to premieres, and it was almost no help. The range was too extensive. It seemed nearly anything was acceptable, from cocktail dresses to full-on evening wear.
Some articles made me feel sick, especially the articles about the actresses. So many articles talked about how many women found it hard to find dresses in their size because they were size 6 and too big to fit into most designers dresses. I checked out a size conversion chart and found that size 6 was a size 10 here. I was usually a size 10, but sometimes my arse needs a size 12.
I started thinking I was too fat. I kept thinking about my huge arse and thighs, which got me spiralling into thinking my breasts were too small, my hair was too frizzy, I had too many freckles, and I was too pale. The list of my faults just grew in my head until I was sure I'd end up at the premiere looking like a bush pig in a dress.
I started to breathe deeply, in through my nose, hold it, out through my mouth. After several breaths, I opened my eyes. I could do this. I picked up the first dress the assistant had helped me pick. She knew it wasn't going to wor. It was a loose short black lace dress with puffy sleeves that would make me look like the only shape I had was round. The other picks she made were dresses that looked like they were for the bride's grandmother. She also looked at Liam too many times for my liking. She was very helpful if you call taking us to dresses sold out in my size useful. Or if directing all her questions at Liam was helpful. I'll bet she's out there right now being helpful...
Fuck me dead! I think I'm jealous.
That was an emotion I hadn't felt in a while, and I didn't like it. Fuck that. I don't need to be jealous. I picked through the dresses until I found the one I already knew would be the winner.
It was from Australian designer Maticevski. The gown was black with a high neckline, and the beautiful fabric gathered on the left shoulder. The dress was pulled from the hips and cinched in the waist. It had a thigh-high split, revealing just enough skin to be sexy and a small but elegant train. I loved it the moment I saw it and knew I wanted it. But it was $2,500. I loved it so much I almost didn't care. I mean, I knew I wasn't the one people cared about. They wanted to see Liam. This time was different because it would be our first official event together, and the story right now was who was he dating. This time I would get attention. But I still thought it was too much money. I had almost put it back, but the assistant smirked. Liam, bless him, took it out of my hands and said he would love to see it on me.
I wriggled my way into the dress and looked into the mirror. It was the winner for sure. I had brought my heels from Friday night to try the dress on with, and though they weren't quite right for the dress, they gave a good idea of what I would look like. It was slightly too tight around the hips and too a little big on the top. I could get it altered, though. It wouldn't take much. Maybe even a bra with a bit of padding would fix it. I flipped my hair to give it some bounce and a sexy 'just been fucked' look and stepped out.
I was right. She was hitting on Liam hard. I wanted to punch her in the face. But then Liam saw me, and the way he looked at me made me forgot about her. I took a few steps over to him and posed in an over the top way.
"What do you think?" I asked Liam.
He didn't say anything, but his eyes did. He had the same look when he approached me on Friday night. This is definitely the dress.
"It's not too dressed up? I could try something else if you think it's too much." I said to Liam.
"It doesn't quite fit. Perhaps the..." the assistant didn't get time to finish before Liam spoke.
"No." He said firmly, cutting her off. He cleared his throat and approached me. "It's absolutely perfect." He kissed me, and his lips were so soft. He ran his hands over my waist and stood back, looking me up and down. "Perfect. We will take it."
"You don't want to try..." the assistant tried again.
Liam didn't even look at her. "I said we would take it. The other dresses can go back. Thank you for your help." I loved it when he spoke in that authoritative tone, which made me weak.
She went into the dressing room and took away the ten other dresses I was going to try. I wasn't sad to see them go, none of them would be as good as this, but I still wasn't sure.
"I can try another dress. I mean, this one is stupid expensive."
"I don't care if it was a hundred thousand dollars, you look amazing, and you like it, so you will have it."
"I just don't know if I can afford to spend money like this for one night."
"I invited you. I'm paying."
"Fuck. I should have said I need matching earrings." I joked.
"Do you?" He asked, sincere.
"No, don't be silly. Shoes and a handbag will do. I'll buy the shoes you buy the bag. Deal?"
"Nope." He was shaking his head, "I want to get everything for you. Think of it as an Easter present."
"I can afford to buy things for myself, you know. I make pretty good money considering I own my house, and I only have to take care of myself and Perrin."
"I know." Liam ran his fingers through his hair. "Call me a misogynist if you want, but I want to buy you things, pretty things, things you'd never buy yourself. I want to take care of you."
I decided to let it go. I didn't think it's misogynistic to want to buy your girlfriend a present. It's misogynistic if you think you own her because you chose to buy her things. And it did feel nice to have him want to buy me pretty things.
"Ok, Liam," I said.
His smile came back. "Good. Get changed, and let's buy you some shoes." His lip twitched. "Do you need help taking it off?"
"Get out of it." I laughed and got changed.
When I had come out, he wasn't waiting for me. I looked around and couldn't find him in the shoes or the bags. A thought came to me. I hated that I thought it, but I wondered if the shop assistants come on had worked. I didn't believe it, not really, but once the thought was there, it wouldn't leave.
I didn't want to, but I looked for the shop assistant. As I looked, I felt sick from fear and disgust with myself. I found her putting away the dresses from the dressing room, and I breathed a sigh of relief. I hated myself. I wasn't usually like this. It wasn't fair on Liam either. He had given me no reason to suspect him at all.
Then I started to panic. My breath came out shallow and rapid. I felt smothered. There were no windows, and I needed to get out. There were too many people.
I felt warm hands slide under my t-shirt and rest on my belly.
I jumped and spun around. It was Liam. "Ready for shoes, Sweetheart?" He asked.
"Where were you? I looked everywhere."
"I went down to menswear real quick," Liam said. "Now that I know what you're going to wear, I know what I'm going to wear, and I needed a new shirt. It took longer than I thought."
"No worries. I just, I didn't know, it's ok."
"You ok?"
I nodded. "Let's go."
When she had first returned to Brigid, she had acted as a translator for her friend, who despite pleading to join her, knew nothing of the language.
Now, years later, Dorothea could speak the common language of Brigid as easily as she could Fodlan's.
"It's because you're such a good teacher, Petra," she teased, after Petra had praised her skills.
Despite her grandfather's approval, the people of Brigid had been skeptical of their marriage at first. Dorothea's Fodlanese heritage didn't help. Nonetheless, they didn't argue. Their new queen was happy, and that was what mattered.
Now, years later, the people praised them as one of the best pairs of rulers they had.
Queen Petra worked tirelessly to improve their relationship with Fodlan after declaring independence. Her wife, the Lady Dorothea, used her connections with the Opera to help. It was hard work, but they succeeded eventually.
Now, Petra lived her life working tirelessly to help her citizens. Everyday she could be found holding public hearings to address their problems, or in her room, signing paperwork, and on some occasions in a meeting, dealing with the other nobles. It was tiring work, but she would endure it for her kingdom.
Dorothea had built an Opera house in the capital city of Brigid, after extensively studying the nature of Brigid's fine arts and music. She ran the place on her own, wrote their plays, and held weekly singing practices that were open to all, where people could gather and and sing together. Her troupe became famous throughout not only Brigid, but Fodlan as well, eventually even receiving audiences from Dagda and Almyra.
Today in particular had been a hard day.
The queen had visitors not only from Fodlan, but from Almyra and Dagda as well. The meeting had been… tiring, to say the least. Seeing an old classmate again after so long on strictly professional terms had been… difficult, the man from Almyra was beefy, and loud, which was a stark contrast to the noble from Dadga, who was posh and professional.
Petra had collapsed into her desk chair after the meeting.
Dorothea had been laying on their bed, humming. Her day had been rough as well, having to deal not only with racist participants in the day's open singing practice, but also guide visitors from the foreign countries in the song. Though she had seen one familiar face, it had still been… difficult.
She jumped up when Petra entered though, before her face fell. The queen had sat down at her desk, and immediately reached for her paperwork.
"Petra…" the singer stood up with a small sigh, walking over, "Come on, you need to get some rest."
"I don't have time for rest," Petra replied, "I must get this work done…"
"Love, you're exhausted…" Dorothea sighed, resting her hands on the queens shoulders and  beginning to rub slowly, "Why don't you take a break? Let me sing for you."
She hesitated, "Are… you sure? I must get this paperwork done…"
"You can do it later," the songstress insisted, "Take a break, love. You need one."
Petra frowned at her, shifting to face her wife. Dorothea smiled reassuringly at her, and smiled wider when the queen began to relax, "I have a day off tomorrow…"
"You can finish the paperwork first thing tomorrow, and then we can go out together."
It was quiet for a moment.
Petra sighed, and stood up as she gave in, "Okay… Will you sing for me, Thea?"
"Of course," Dorothea smiled even brighter in response, and pulled her wife over to the bed. The two laid next to each other, as she hummed softly.
"What song would you like me to sing?"
"No preference."
"Hmm… okay," Dorothea sat up, and began humming. The humming went on for a few moments, changing pitch and tune to match a song, and then…
"Reach for my hand," she began to sing softly, "I'll soar away. Into the dawn, oh, I wish I could stay."
Petra rolled over and smiled at her.
"In cherished halls, in peaceful days, I fear the edge of dawn… knowing time betrays."
Her voice was soft, soothing, and before long… the queen had fallen asleep.
And when she had finished the song, as she was never one to leave something half done, Dorothea fell asleep too.
As promised, Petra finished her paperwork early, and Dorothea had dragged her off to see the town shortly afterward.
People waved as they passed by, and the pair waved back happily. Brigid's capital really was a lively and friendly place.
Just after noon had come, Dorothea brought her wife to the opera house. There was a public singing session today, and even half an hour before it started, people were beginning to gather.
A certain indigo haired woman was there already, looking around. Dorothea smiled.
"Shamir!"
Shamir looked up, and grinned, "Well well. We meet again, kid. Your Majesty," she bowed to Petra, "To what do I owe this pleasure?"
Petra fumbled for words. She still wasn't the best at Fodlanese…
"This day- er, Today, is my free day. I am not having work to do."
"Lucky you," Shamir replied, "It's good to see you both again."
"Am I assuming you came with the Dagda noble?" Petra asked.
"Fodlan actually," she shrugged, "Mercenary life gets me plenty of jobs. Just so happened I was in town, and the lord was looking for a suitable guard."
"Interesting," the queen hummed.
"Are you here for choir?" Dorothea asked, tilting her head to the side with a happy smile.
"I guess so. Lord Aegir wanted to come and I'm kind of obligated to follow him everywhere unless he specifically says so," Shamir shrugged, "He's talking to some of the singers, along with that guy from Almyra. Nader or something."
"You didn't tell me Ferdie was the visiting noble!" Dorothea turned to pout at Petra.
"It never came up," Petra admitted, laughing a little.
"Anyway, I'm going to go find something to do… singing isn't my thing."
"You joined yesterday," Dorothea blinked at Shamir.
"I was exploring town and got caught up in it somehow," Shamir sighed, "Lord Aegir's over there if you want to talk to him."
"Alright then… bye!" The songstress waved. Petra waved as well.
The pair turned, and walked over to the ginger haired noble.
"Ferdie!"
Ferdinand turned, and broke into a huge smile, "Dorothea! The ugly maiden!"
Everyone paused to stare at him.
Someone in the back began snickering.
"Uhh…"
"Ferdie," Dorothea frowned, "Um… Do you know what 'aklos' means Brigid?"
"Why, I was told it meant lovely!" Ferdinand replied, smiling brightly, "Impressive, right?"
Dorothea began giggling, as Petra sighed.
"Ah, Ferdinand… The Brigidian word for 'lovely', is 'akLAS'. Aklos is our word for ugly."
The noble blinked.
His face turned pink.
"B-by the goddess! Please, accept my sincerest apologies!" He bowed, "I have been tricked it seems…"
"Don't worry about it," Dorothea laughed, "Are you here for choir?"
"Why yes! I heard from Manuela that you run your own opera house here! She misses you by the way, and is hoping to one day collaborate with your opera."
"Oh, I would love to! I'll have to send a letter to her!" Dorothea exclaimed happily, "Thank you Ferdie!"
"But of course! It is my duty to assist!"
One of the actresses, a young woman, called over, "Miss Dorothea! We're ready to begin!"
"Oh! That's my cue," Dorothea smiled, and giggled slightly, "Have fun Love," she pecked Petra on the cheek, and waved at Ferdinand, before running up to join the singers at the podium.
Choir was always a joy for Petra to attend. Not only did she get to hear her wife's beautiful voice, but the act made her feel… closer to others, not only to her Dorothea, but to her citizens as well. The same citizens loved it when she would join them as well.
Ferdinand sang loudly, and he sounded well enough. Nader on the other hand, sounded like a dying bird. The look Dorothea gave him at the end of the first song would've scared the pants off of even the most fiercest soldier.
He ended up being asked to sing... quietly, so that the others could be heard over him.
Even Shamir participated, though at the request of Ferdinand. She seemed to enjoy herself though, if only for one song.
It seemed like only a few minutes later when choir ended, though it had been at least an hour.
"You were great Petra!" The songstress quickly began gushing, "Even better than before!"
"You're making me blush Thea," Petra laughed in embarrassment, "You sounded much better than I did."
"Even so," she giggled, "Well, what would you like to do now?"
"Why don't we visit the orphanage?"
"Sounds like a wonderful idea," Dorothea replied, "Let's head there now, and then we can be home in time for dinner."
"Right," the queen nodded, and after saying goodbye to Ferdinand and Shamir, they began walking to the orphanage.
The orphanage was as lively as ever.
Though the place was small, and the only residents were a few children and their caretaker, it was always lively. The children were often running around and playing together, making noise and sometimes causing chaos. The 4 of them were quite the handful for their caretaker, but they managed.
A jingle sounded as they entered.
"Just a moment!" Came a call from the back. A few seconds later, the caretaker appeared, carrying a box.
"Oh!" She gasped, "Your Majesty, Lady Dorothea! What a pleasant surprise!"
"Hello Chey," Petra smiled, "We came to visit."
"The children were just wondering when they would be able to see you again," Chey laughed, smiling, "Children! You have a visitor!"
Light footsteps were heard immediately. The quick pitter patter of small feet echoed in the building, as a group came tumbling out of the bedrooms.
First came Fiona, a 7 year old. She was quickly followed by the 8 year old, Darrell, who stumbled and tripped onto her. Fiona squealed.
Lily came next, the oldest at age 11, "Hey! Be careful, I'm holding Harry!"
Harry let out a "Bubba!" and burst into giggles. He was the youngest of the four, being just barely a year in age. Fiona and Darrell fumed at each other.
"Now now,' Chey frowned, walking over to them, "Don't get into a fight. Look who came to visit!"
"Kween Petwa! Dorufea!' Harry babbled excitedly, "Petwa and Dorufea! Yay!"
"Q-Queen Petra! Lady Dorothea!" Lily gasped, and did a quick bow still holding the toddler, "It's a pleasure to see you again!"
"Petra! Dorothea! Hi!' Fiona brightened up quickly and waved.
"Idiot, it's QUEEN Petra and LADY Dorothea! Don't forget your manners!" Darrell hissed at her.
"What do titles matter?" She crossed her arms with a huff.
"A lot!"
"How?"
"Because-"
"That's enough," Chey sighed, "No fighting. Apologize to Her Majesty and Lady Dorothea."
The pair glared at each other. She nudged them.
Darrell was first.
"I'm sorry Queen Petra, Lady Dorothea…"
"Sorry…" Fiona mumbled quickly just after him.
Harry babbled something that nobody understood. Dorothea laughed, and took him from Lily. He squealed happily, and pulled her hair. She winced, but laughed.
"Your apology is accepted, little ones," Petra knelt down to smile at Fiona and Darrell, "It is a pleasure to see you again."
The two smiled brightly at her in response.
"What do you say?" Chey prompted.
"Thank you Queen Petra!" The two chorused, before running off into the back playfully shoving each other.
"Ah…" the caretaker watched them run off, "I'll have to scold them later… I'm sorry."
"Don't worry about it," Dorothea laughed, "You seem to be handling them well."
"Ah, well… I'm not quite sure how I ended up with four of them. I picked up Lily off the streets and since then… Well I haven't been able to say no to them like that," the caretaker laughed softly, "Will you be staying for a visit your Majesty? Lady Dorothea?"
"Please?" Lily added with a smile.
Harry babbled and giggled happily.
"I'm sure we can stay for a little bit," Petra nodded.
"Of course," Dorothea smiled brightly, "It would be a pleasure."
Lily cheered, and Harry babbled. The royal pair followed her into the backroom with a laugh.
The meeting room was silent.
Dorothea suppressed a sigh. Shamir glanced at her from across the room.
"...and that is why I believe we should cut off trade entirely. I don't mean to be accusing, but recent affairs have proven my suspicions."
The noble from Dagda would not shut up. He kept going on and on about how Fodlan's recent battles proved them unstable, and their rocky relationship with surrounding areas didn't help.
"Lord Hanth, please," Ferdinand sighed, "I can assure you with 100% positivity that Fodlan is unified in all ways. I ask that you please refrain from this incessant blabbering about us being unstable, when it is not backed up by factual evidence."
Hanth scowled, "Of course you would say that, Lord Aegir. You're FROM Fodlan-"
Petra sighed, "Lord Hanth, with all due respect, I can fully support Lord Aegir's claims as witness. Dorothea and I were present for the unification of Fodlan."
"That is not the only issue!" Hanth snapped, "Her, for example!" He pointed at Shamir, "Why is a citizen of Dagda-"
"I'm from Dagda, yeah," Shamir crossed her arms, "I came to Fodlan as a mercenary. Lord Aegir hired me."
Ferdinand raised an eyebrow at the Dadga lord.
"We were invaded once-"
"You started that fight," Dorothea pointed out.
He scowled, "I refuse to do trade until both Fodlan and Brigid have proven their stability. With that, I believe this meeting is over."
He turned and stomped out.
"...Geez," Nader sighed, "What a guy."
Dorothea jumped. She had forgotten about the Almyran general.
"General Nader, thoughts?" Petra looked over.
"I got no problem with trade, long as Fodlan doesn't interfere with our merchants," the general shrugged, "Might have to double check with the king on that though."
"I see. In that case, do what you must," she nodded.
"...Shamir, are all the nobles from Dagda like that?" Ferdinand asked.
"Dunno," Shamir shrugged, "I haven't been there in years."
"Well," Dorothea sighed, "I suppose not trading with Dagda isn't too much of a loss…"
"I am sure we can manage," Petra nodded, "Ferdinand? Are you confirming a trade with Brigid?"
"But of course!" Ferdinand smiled, "And I hope we can establish trade with Almyra as well!"
"Hah! Sounds good!" Nader laughed.
"Shall we shake on it then?" The nobleman asked.
"Yes," Petra nodded, and held out her hand. She shook with Ferdinand, then Nader, and then the two shook hands with each other.
It was agreed.
Ruling a country that once was a vassal to another wasn't easy. Especially not when there were relationships she had to repair with other kingdoms, but maybe… just maybe, she could do it.
As long as she had Dorothea, the person whom she is said to have loved the most, standing at her side.
