Our contact stances

Anti-contact for nonconsenting and sexual-consent-incapable animated beings (animals, minors, syskids, corpses without prior consent, etc.) and for nonconsensual actions that could cause death or abuse (nonconsensual biastrophilic contact, nonconsensual somnophilic contact, nonconsensual cannibalistic contact, etc) or actions that could warp or inhibit the ability to know when a person's hard limits are being broken (nonconsensual programing, nonconsensual brainwashing, grooming ect.)

Selective contact for paraphilic and fetishistic actions that have the potential to cause injuries and mental trauma, but are possible between informed consenting chrono adults (bdsm, knifeplay, bloodplay, unarmed gunplay, conabuse, cnc, consensual brainwashing, consensual mind control, consensual drugging, consensual programming, consensual somnophilia and autobiastro contact as in cnc, fultplay, etc.) with safety precautions in place for any potential injuries or mental trauma. Also some selective contact for roleplay of dangerous actions executed in harmless ways (erotophono roleplay being done with a collapsible prop knife, faux cannibalism being done with vegan meat substitutes, fauxcest aka found consang being done with mental adults). Also also selective contact for age sliders, transspecies beings and plural folkel (I'd prefer to have a wavership with a plural collective and treat each headmate case by case). Note: It is also highly important to have safewords, pre-care and aftercare due to the potentially triggering nature of these kinds of actions.

Pro contact for actions that do not cause harm (ageplay, petplay, safe roleplay, bondage, fiction, ships, art, etc.) where all parties involved use informed consent and comprehensive sex education as well as psychological preparedness and aftercare.

We also believe that no being is naturally intrinsically able to give sexual consent until they are emotional prepared, psychologically prepared, and prepared with the proper information and use the RACK model as well as precare and aftercare for sexual activity. Its important to establish hard and soft limits and stuff as well as prior consent pacts and time limits for long term activities.

Heya, this is a genuine question but is it okay to be radqueer but "anti-contact" for MAPs and similar? I agree with pretty much all of the radqueer ideals, but whenever I look though the community I unfortunately see a lot of "pro-contact" MAPs... and like, obviously I support MAPs but I cannot agree with the idea that relationships between adults and minors can somehow not be inherently harmful, and that's always made me feel like I'm unwelcome in radqueer or transid spaces

This is absolutely okay, radqueer does not specify a contact stance

Some stances are louder on Tumblr or more talked about, and the community gets labelled as pro-contact all the time, but most I meet are in the complex contact range

I do like that the community is more open to different contact stances now because there was a time where if you even dared to have complicated or nuanced views on the topic then you were heavily disliked, but it's swung a lot in the other direction

You'll still find tons of radqueers with pro-c dni or that are not pro-c!

I think the whole reason contact discourse is as annoying as it is, is because people refuse to communicate with eachother.

Different para circles use contact labels differently. On Twitter, "anti contact" widely means "anti contact for harmful actions" (bestiality, child abuse, grooming, assault, etc). But on Tumblr, especially radblr, a contact stance like that would be widely considered to be "complex contact".

Regardless of how contact labels end up, I think people need to sit down and realise that:

1: Being anti-contact doesn't mean "no contact for all paraphilias" (literally have never seen any anti-c claim that stance please stop acting like people do.)

2: Being complex contact doesn't inherently make someone pro-beastiality (plus all other forms of abuse I mentioned.)

Like this is a community build on trying to understand and empathise with people. Why do y'all forget that the second contact labels come into play.

I don’t really get when anti rq’s crosstag with rq tags like you don’t like them then why do you tag them in your post? You just look dense and a hateful piece of 💩 you must not care for yourself if you are proudly harassing others for something that has no effect on you, it’s coming off very transphobic and homophobic and other phobics 👀💀💀

Me personally I don’t always agree with some rq things but that’s okay because it’s like that in all communities, that’s pretty normal for someone to be apart of a community and not always agree with them. But how you handle it is what is important. 🫨

I’m very open minded, I do have my own set of views and morals and I’ll choose who I want to interact with but I’m pretty lenient. I accept people as they are even if I don’t agree, I’m not gonna harass someone for not agreeing with my views and I’m not gonna make hate posts for it either, there is also a block button and tag filtering. 😲

The entire radqueer community is filled with different opinions just like every other community, not everyone will agree with the same shit, most people are also incredibly uneducated within those communities, so do your own research and use your intuition and knowledge to determine what works for you, but I don’t stand with people harassing others ffs 🤦🏼 unless you into that lmao (consent first though)

anti contact LEANING? so not fully?

yeah there are certain edge cases where full abstinence may not make total sense and I'd prefer to have a nuanced and in depth breakdown of what I'm comfortable with rather than leaving it as a vague statement about all paraphilias. I don't think chrono minors or animals without sapience and artificial evolution can consent to anything sexual/romantic and I make that very clear. things like transIDs and regression can muddy the waters of consent and I tend to treat it on a case by case basis and use critical thinking whenever I can to take the most ethical course of action. for the most part my contact stance revolves around making informed consent and avoiding cases of abuse or death. I have complex stances around roleplay that could cause harm such as knifeplay but as long as it doesn't severely harm anyone or cause lasting psychological damage I'm ok with it. we take a critharm stance in most cases. we made a post about our contact stance here.

I think my least favorite thing about my ASL professor is she like. Messes up a lot during video tests. She'll rub her nose and cough in the MIDDLE of the sentence we're supposed to write back in English. So I get all confused over whether she's signing or if she's just coughing or sneezing. She also like... doesn't follow the book sometimes??? The book will show us how to do a sign and what it looks like, then she'll do it and it'll have a completely different handshape and such.

It's hard enough for me to understand the language in the book don't add stuff randomly please!!!!!!!!!

also: the contact debate is about paraphilias that cause harm when acted on. no one discusses contact when the para is like, balloons. when you describe yourself as complex/neutral about contact you make yourself look like you have very dangerous ideas about the topic. if there was an easy way to report for that I would.

The Black Butler revival will, of course, in this day and age, be the complete embodiment of pro-ship vs. anti-ship discourse, given the subject matter.

But for those of you who are watching this for the first time in 2024 (which includes myself!), there are certain things about the show you simply must understand, for the sake of media literacy.

The first is that Black Butler is supernatural gothic romanticism at its core. This genre alone should tell you that the relationships integral to the plot will be complex, messy, and toxic, by default. That is not only a huge part of this genre’s appeal, but very much the point of the story.

The themes are dark, the terrible things that happen to the main characters are dark, and therefore the relationships at the forefront (and in the background) will reflect that.

The gothic genre has been alluringly popular for over a century (longer, if you know your history) because audiences are entranced by the macabre, the tainted antiheroes, the monsters who live inside us all. It’s popular for a reason.

That being said, understand that whether you, the viewer, ship Sebastian and Ciel or not is irrelevant. Their bond doesn’t need to be understood as romantic or sexual, but it sure as hell isn’t normal. It isn’t healthy. And the audience knows that. That’s the draw. It’s what makes them compelling to watch.

Ciel and Sebastian’s relationship mirrors many gothic novels, poems, and penny dreadfuls written in the Victorian Era (the very same time period in which Kuroshitsuji takes place). The Victorian folks who read these tales for the first time ate that shit up, because it was tantalizing. It was shocking. It was inappropriate, and monstrous, and violent, and erotic, and went against societal norms. But that was the point.

A huge part of gothic romanticism is the blatant sexualization of the relationship between the “monstrous” characters and their human counterparts in the story. Sex itself doesn’t need to take place for their bond to be sexually charged. The forbidden nature of their relationship—which typically involves layers of social taboos, moral ambiguity, or simple infatuation—is what makes their interactions erotic. Sexual contact rarely ever actually happens in these stories. It’s the taboo nature of their bond that creates the tension.

One of the many reasons audiences love this genre is the constant question of morality in its themes. Who, between them, is the real monster? Could the human character have ever been saved? This genre is often associated with tragedy, because the bond forged between the characters in these stories are destined to end in death and destruction. The reader knows it can’t end any other way. How can it?

But an integral element of these gothic tales is the catharsis that comes with this tragedy. The corrupted human often gets what they want in the end, even if it’s at the cost of their own life. Whether they regret their choice to foster this monstrous relationship varies on the story, but it doesn’t change the trajectory of their descent.

Sebastian and Ciel’s relationship is the whole plot of Black Butler. Their closeness bears a grotesque ick factor, but it is deliberate. It is a constant reminder of how unnatrual their bond truly is. Rationalizing or watering down how abnormal they are about each other misses the point entirely. They will never have a normal, healthy relationship, and that’s what moves the plot forward.

That’s why you’re watching it.

i see a lot of mentions of stances that the flags are against and it's often hard to find archives of those would you consider making an archive of anti-radqueer or otherwise bad or problematic terms for informational purposes? you don't have to include emojis for them this might sound like an anti-rq post but i can assure you that it's not and that i am asking this in good faith, i just want to know the context of things and i keep seeing words and phrases that are not in the archive

it will say something like "this term is anti-dogqueer anti-bananaqueer" and it just starts mentioning words and please i need to know what this is talking about or what the words mean /gen

as much as we'd like to do this for education, we know that there are anti-radqueer beings who have made blankqueer terms don't wish for radqueers to engage with their posts or elsewise.

additionally, we also don't want to inadvertently make a harassment list... since we're well aware that some beings in the community who can and will harass antis, especially those who have created anti-radqueer terms.

i'm well aware that anon here isn't compiling a list of anti blogs to harass. but considering we are on the internet, we are gonna take precautions to protect others and ourselves from harassment or harm.

we do know some two neutral blankqueer archives, though we won't publicly share it. however, we are open to sharing the links privately if it's made clear the intent isn't malicious in any means.

I just want to say I love how you do your lineart, it looks so good! ahhhhhhhh!!

I'm gathering a lot of advice about the topic of lineart and I just wanna know how you get it to look like that? My line weight is getting better but the drawing itself just comes out a bit.. weird.

Thank you so much! Lineart is probably the thing I've been working hardest on as I am not a lineartist (and still struggle a lot) but it's something I really need to get better at for my job. UM there's honestly so much that could be said on the topic of lineart. Big things for me are:

Weight -> Use line weight (aka thickness) to describe form, lighting, contact and scale. Thick lines imply shadow, contact and nearness-to-camera. Thin lines imply tension, recession and light.

Straights vs Curves -> Use straight lines against curved ones for maximum interest. This is partly a character design thing but as we're using lines to describe our characters it's worth mentioning :)

Complex vx Simple -> Use complex lines against simple. Faces are always complex so therefore the backs of heads should always be simple. Chests are quite complex so backs should be simple. Dorsal sides of the arms are complex (Delt, tricep, bicep) whilst the ventral side is more simple (tricep...mainly) etc.

'Think in Ink' -> Lower your sketch layer almost to 0% opacity so you're not getting hung up on how nice/energetic your sketch look and instead are approaching the piece from an ink mindset. BUT it's digital! So if there's something in your sketch that you like just bring it forward (copy and paste) into your ink layer. I sketch and ink with the same brush so I can use this workflow

'Confidence' -> small hesitant feathery lines will look nervous compared to big swooping lines. Less is always more. I'll redraw arms/limbs until I can get the appearance that it was done in one brush stroke. Again it's digital so you can erase to cheat this look : )

MISC 01: I always hear 'draw from the shoulder'........meh............it's digital so draw from your wrist...it's fine honestly. If we were working at A1 in a life drawing class then we could get some shoulder action going but most of us are hunched over 16inch tablets. I think this advice aims to pull people away from feathery-nervous lineart honestly which you can improve on without relearning how to draw from your shoulder.

MISC 02: For a 'smoother' look do your lineart at a larger canvas size than you need. Once I'm happy with a sketch I usually double the canvas size and do my lineart then.

MISC 03: In PS (at least) anti-aliasing goes funny at any zoom level that isn't in the 5 times table. So try not to look at your canvas when you're zoomed in to 87% or 71.39% or something crazy. Just stick to 25%, 50%, 75% and 100% if possible.

UNFORTUNATE TRUTH: Lineart is incredibly based on raw draughtmanship I've discovered. When you're working with colour you can hide a lot in rendering (shadows, highlights) or post-processing (depth of field) but in lineart all your mistakes are just...there for people to see. There's ways round this...which I use A LOT. 'Flourishes' (I use 'flourishes' to mean over-confident lineart where it veers particuarly thick or particuarly thin in contrast to your approach in the rest of the image) can sort of trick people into thinking you're more confident about an area than you actually are.

As well as leaving 'breathing room' within your lineart instead of actually...resolving the area. I do this the most around the face and hands.

Hopefully some of this helps? Honestly there's a lot of deep dives that could be done into indivudal things and there's also the massive caveat that all of these are 'guidelines' and not strict rules. I also favour a more...concept-arty? animation-y? storyboard-y? look to my lineart which favours flourishes and breathing room for a incomplete/work-in-progress feel which would make methodical colouring (ie: for a comic or something) a pain.

Keep up pratice is the main thing and doing studies of artists who you like that have great lineart - you'll pick up draughtmanship skills along with the lineart studies. Here's some of my lineart from a year or two ago...it varies between very 'standardised' (which makes it difficult to read volumes and to be honest, it's boring) and 'TOO EXCITING' (which...also makes it difficult to read volumes and for the eye to rest).

I'd like to share my brushes at some point as I've found 3 that I really like and use for everything more or less. I discovered that a shocking low amount of people use PS on tumblr (shocking to me I guess as i'm so used to PS being the standard) and everyone seems to use Procreate or Clip Studio Pro...so I want to check that the brushes are Procreate compatible at least before I share!

A show about Self-hatred, Love, & Connection

Carmy's self-hatred is a big part of his character and it's his biggest hurdle in getting past his trauma. His self-loathing becomes apparent in the first season, particularly in the episode "Hands," where he tolerates verbal abuse. This inner critic is rooted in familial and complex trauma, existing long before his experiences in NYC.

The Familial Pattern

Those experiencing self-hatred may or may not, be in a situation that requires them to be in contact with someone from their painful past, causing distress and a tendency to withdraw to avoid experiencing painful memories and emotions...

The Berzatto family has a history of self-loathing, with Donna's mental barriers and emotional and verbal abuse, not just from her but from extended family members, who made an impression on the Berzatto siblings.

The episode Fishes dives into Donna's inner critic that's similar to Carmy's, she says no one would care or miss her, we see the reasoning for self-hatred from the berating of Carmy, to Uncle Lee vehemently telling Mikey he's nothing, to the unforgiving nickname for Natalie, such abuse and extreme criticism is to the point that it becomes ingrained in their thoughts.

Mikey unfortunately succumbs to the pattern, but Natalie breaks the curse by attending Al-Anon meetings and loving those who instills confidence in her.

Her own actions in seeking comfort lessen the impact of Donna's self-loathing influences, as she asks for an embrace from Steven. I believe that this moment shows us how connection can help calm down our extreme inner critic.

Also Natalie's connection with Pete helps her own self compassion and feeling deserving of the good things in life. Pete tells her how great the restaurant is. He easily gives compliments to Carmy. This treatment is foreign to the Berzattos but is embraced by Natalie as she breaks the cycle.

Connecting to those who make you feel good is also foreigner to Carmy, he struggles with Pete's compliments and receiving it, he pushes those away from fear of the unknown territory of feeling good.

Feeling undeserving is one of the reasons he avoids emotional intimacy with Claire. Not only does she remind him of a past filled with ridicule from Richie and Mikey but he can't understand why someone could love him. If he could open up and allow intimacy, he would be on the path towards acceptance.

Solace in Sydney

Theres one significant moment of self-acceptance and that happens in 2x09. Carmy's character growth is clear as he chooses to listen to Sydney's words and affirmation instead of ignoring them.

I want to note that it frustrates me when people comment that Sydney's voice only contributed to Carm's work-life when his self-hatred shows up in his personal life.

From "Let It Rip" to "You Were the Most Excellent CDC," we take a look in Carmy's potential to overcome anxiety and self-loathing. The difference between "Let It Rip" is that Sydney's voice and his bond with her and it gives Carmy moments of feeling good about himself like Natalie feels with Pete. That moment of acceptance is a big step in his relationship with himself and Sydney's love for him serves as one of the remedies for his self-hatred.

I want to emphasize that Sydney can't fix Carmy, but her company, talents, and aspirations help him feel good and encourage self-compassion and confidence. Sometimes, loving someone helps you fall in love with yourself more, as long as this person also supports you in the same way.

To beat loneliness and self-loathing, Carmy needs to open his heart and contribute to filling his own cup, then he could receive love when someone pours into him.

But it's funny because he's already doing this with Sydney. He allows her love to wash over him, and even through mistakes, he tries to believe in her the way she believes in him.

Carmy will experience true love for himself and others when he moves forward and strives toward a genuine connection (forgiveness, compassion, etc.). When Carmy receives that love, he will finally feel deserving of something good happening in his life.
