This scene with Sanji is one of his most important moments in the series, and in my opinion also one of the most difficult passages in the manga to interpret, because to completely understand it you have to look at the manga holistically rather than this scene by itself.
The big question that needs answered is why does Oda let Zoro "win" here by having him be the sacrifice instead of Sanji. Both are equally willing and both are identified much later on as the Wings of the Pirate King, implying that they have similar importance (although vastly different roles) within the Straw Hat crew.
If we go back to Sanji's introduction on the Baratie, his big flaw was that he lacked the "spear of spirit" to pursue his dream. Since he's been a boy he's wanted to find the All Blue, but even when he had the opportunity to go after that dream he chose to stay on the Baratie out of a feeling of obligation to Zeff. Sanji put the continued existence of the restaurant over his own life, something Luffy rightfully called him out for at the time, and even at the end of the arc had to be pushed away by Zeff and the other chefs before he finally set sail for good.
On Drum, Sanji once again almost died protecting Nami and Luffy during the avalanche, resulting in a broken back that required surgury from Dr. Kureha. Luffy again calls him out (note the English translation here isn't entirely accurate, see here for a breakdown), and with his power there's a good chance Luffy could have gotten them all out of trouble without all the dramatics by Sanji.
Something similar happens on Skypiea, when Sanji puts himself in the way of Enel so that Usopp and Nami can be saved. This case is perhaps more justifiable given the extreme situation they were in, but nonetheless he was still quick to throw his life away.
Then on Enies Lobby Nami--while not criticizing his chivalry--calls out Sanji for simply not running away from Kalifa, instead just accepting that he's going to get the shit beat out of him, and possibly die.
So there's a pattern of self-destructive behavior. Sanji repeatedly puts his life on the line when he doesn't need to in order to preserve the lives and dreams of the people he loves. Even him constantly simping over Nami and Robin falls a little into this category, because if either of them told him to take a long walk off a short pier I have no doubt he'd comply. It's that same extreme willingness to sacrifice anything and everything for the people he cares for that we see in Baby 5, except Sanji was fortunate enough to not be surrounded by people that encourage these worst impulses of self-destructive behavior. As he says here in Thriller Bark, he's just the cook. Luffy can always just find someone else.
(The glory of Whole Cake Island being Sanji realizing, no, Luffy can't, and he won't).
And it is finally on WCI that get to the heart of why Sanji is like this with yet another episode of putting his own dreams and happiness aside for the sake of others, and not until Wano that we finally see him take the first steps toward asking others for help instead of passionately throwing his life away when he doesn’t need to.
When Zoro first offered his head to Kuma, the prominence of his dream was first and foremost. Notice that Sanji never mentions the All Blue. One Piece is a series that places the pursuit of one's own ambition above all else, even if that ambition is selfish. Sanji hasn't yet learned to be selfish, so Zoro knocks him out and ends up being the one to accept Luffy's pain. Sacrifice isn't sacrifice if the person doesn't value what they're giving up, and right now Sanji clearly doesn't value his own life compared to the rest of the crew.
Next chapter Oda will speak through Brook to confirm that Sanji's willingness to give himself up wasn't foolish or stupid. It's just that he's missing a piece of the puzzle, and that's not something he'll have for a long time yet.

DMC Questions Anon here!
What characters do you headcanon on the Aromantic Spectrum?
Uhhhhh noone. I just think most of them are not looking for a relationship, or do not allow themselves to entertain the thought of engaging in one, during events in canon. That alone doesn't make them aromantic to me.

a/n- hihi!! thank you sm for requesting! i hope you like it!! :>
Although he refused to tell you what he wanted or needed, it was so painfully obvious. The way he would wipe his palms on his pants, droplets of sweat formed along his hairline, and he would avoid eye contact with you at all costs. He hasn’t really changed since the first day you spoke to him. The interaction wasn’t even natural. Your philosophy teacher had put the students into pairs to watch a movie and compare their interpretations as to what the movie was truly about.
You honestly didn’t even care who you got paired up with as you didn’t know a single person in the lecture hall. But nonetheless, you’re glad that the professor had paired people up.
Kim Doyoung, the boy who sat in the fourth row, not to close to the front, out of fear of constantly being called on and not too far in the back to be considered a slacker. You, however, sat right in the front row and always had the answer to any of the teacher's philosophical questions and you were never scared to let your opinion out.
The two of you were quite different, so much so that when both of your names were called, you had to look around the room to see whose name was also called, but Doyoung knew exactly where to look. He was lucky he was smart since he never paid attention in class, too infatuated with you. With how you were so confident with your answers and your posture was so perfectly straight. He remembers one day when you wore a shirt that showed off your shoulder blades. Doyoung wanted nothing more than to paint your skin with his love, bite marks, purple, red, blue marks from his lips. He didn’t care, he just wanted to show people that you were his…even though you didn’t know that he existed. What was even worse was that during one of your many arguments with a fellow classmate, you took upon an almost degrading attitude and Doyoung looked down to see that his pants had grown tight around his hardening dick.
When it was time to actually meet up and watch the movie, you suggested that you do it in person so commentary could be made, and conversation could be conducted. Your roommate was out of town visiting her boyfriend, so you immediately offered your dorm to be the movie theater of the day. Doyoung gave you a silent nod and the both of you exchanged numbers.
It wasn’t until he was sitting beside you in your dorm on your couch that he came to terms that he was in love with you. You had done most of the talking so he already knew some things about you, but it was enough for him, and the intense smell of your signature perfume floating in the air of the dorm helped as well. It was sweet but subtle and he couldn’t do anything without his nostrils being flooded with the smell of you.
As the movie played on you paused several times to give your input and in return, you asked for his. But of course, as you lead and controlled the topics, the focus didn’t stay on the movie for the entire time. You asked Doyoung things about himself, he blushed but still answered, the heat spreading to his ears whenever a common interest would come up, which was very often.
With finishing the project in one day, the realization that contact wasn’t necessary anymore hit, so as Doyoung was walking down the hallway, you opened your door again and yelled.
“Hey! Would you maybe wanna hang out again?”
“Like a date?”
“Yes, like a date.”
Doyoung just smiled and nodded at you, a bit embarrassingly eager, but he didn’t mind once a smile took over your lips. The two of you went from never speaking to planning a date all in one day.
The date went well and after a few more, you asked if Doyoung wanted to make your relationship a bit more official.
So far in the relationship you had initiated everything, and although the relationship was new, you wanted Doyoung to take charge for once. Holding out was harder than you thought it would be, after all, you were very attracted to Doyoung, you had eyes. But this was the thing you wanted him to start, the two of you taking the next step in your relationship, sex.
However, just because you were going to let him control the situation, that didn’t mean you couldn’t tease him.
It was late when Doyoung arrived, just off from work and you were in pajamas that could easily be confused with lingerie. You also knew how much Doyoung loved the smell of your perfume, so you added a spritz to your wrists, crown of your head, neck, as well as the curve of your breasts that the shirt you were wearing did absolutely nothing to hide.
You opened the door once he knocked, and stepped back, letting him in with a flirty smile. When you turned around, Doyoung allowed his eyes to travel down to your ass, which was covered by your skimpy shorts which exposed the curve of the muscle.
Looking over your shoulder at him, you heard him gulp and watched his Adam’s apple bob. It was obvious that he was already struggling, put you decided to push the situation a bit further. Once you two were nestled on the couch with blankets on top of your laps, you leaned on Doyoung which caused your breasts to press against his arm.
He swallowed loudly again, and of course you had to play innocent. “What’s the matter Doie? Are you warm? Because I’m pretty warm.” With that you crossed your arms over your torso, grabbed onto the lace hem of your shirt, and pulled it up, bearing your perky tits to your boyfriend. “Ugh, that’s so much better.” Pressing against his arm again, he was able to feel your smooth supple skin on his, even better, since your breasts were know exposed to the air, your nipples had hardened, causing Doyoung to feel the taunt pebbles on your mounds.
Trying to suppress your giggle, you looked up at Doyoung, studying his reaction. You saw his jaw clench, the sharp edge of the bone becoming even more prominent.
“Are you okay Doie?” Leaning back, removing your warmth from Doyoung, you needed him to do something now. You knew it wasn’t something he didn’t want, because his dick had already grown hard.
Now that your breasts weren’t against him, if he looked to his right, he’d see your bare chest. And that’s exactly what happened when he looked to his right. Doyoung gulped and fisted his pants.
“Is there something you want Doie?” You traced the curve of your breast, holding eye contact with him. But on his end of the contact, his eyes constantly switched between looking at your eyes, and your chest. He nodded in response to your question when his eyes weren’t on yours.
“Well, if there’s something you want, you’re gonna have to tell me how much you want it.”
Doyoung looked down to his lap, contemplating on what the next words that left his mouth were going to be. The internal fight he was having with himself didn’t last long though.
“You-you don’t understand how much I want to touch you. I’ve always wanted to touch you, you’re just so pretty. And-and I want to make you feel as good on the outside as you make me feel on the inside.”
His face started to heat up at his words, and the more he went on, the more his face burned. Doyoung pushed himself to get the words out, becoming desperate for you to touch him and when you covered your breasts, the words flew out.
“You literally don’t understand. Like even before we started dating, you’d be arguing with someone in class, and I’d get fucking hard. And there’d be times after we got together that I had to stop myself from doing something perverted. I want you so bad, but I just wanted to make sure it was something you wanted as well. You literally always make me so hard.”
His face was bright red at this point, including his ears and neck. He as just that needy.
Uncovering yourself, you wanted Doyoung to beg for you after you knew how he felt now.
“You just wanted me that bad huh?” He swallowed and nodded, not letting his eyes off of your movements.
You leaned forward and lifted yourself up from the couch a bit and removed your panties slowly, letting Doyoung savor the imagination before it became a reality. Your nails tickled your legs as they made their way down, bringing your panties with them, which eventually landed on the floor.
Removing your feet from the leg holes, you leaned back against the armrest on the couch and separated your legs slowly, allowing Doyoung to see you.
Without saying anything, the man in front of you leaned down, chasing the thing he’s been dreaming about. The fiery lust in his eyes was enough to tell you how much he wanted you, his pupil had also taken over his iris. The pools of brown you fell in love with now replaced with a black that held so much heat, you wanted to see how much you could push his shyness. When he was at leg length, you lifted your foot and placed it on his right shoulder. Doyoung had the perfect view of your dripping pussy finally, but even now he was so far.
“Please, let me make you feel good. I need you.” His tone held a whiny edge, and you smiled at him sweetly.
“How do I know that I’ll end up feeling good? You’re so desperate you might lose sight on what matters, me, and focus on your own pleasure. You’re so pathetic, begging just for a taste of your girlfriend’s pussy. And what will you do? Grind on my couch until you cum in your pants like some virgin?”
“I’ll do whatever you want me to, I’ll let you use me, so you feel good. Just please, let me taste you.” His lips were quivering, and he sounded as if he was on the brink of tears.
Removing your foot, you nodded at Doyoung, giving him permission to please you.
He didn’t waste a single second.
“You taste so good.” If you weren’t already wet with arousal, Doyoung’s spit would definitely make up for the lack of lubrication. He was making a mess, one that left its mark on his chin, nose, your thighs, and navel.
Trying to keep your composure you aimed to keep your sounds of pleasure to a minimum, but the few that did manage to slip went unnoticed as the only sound that could be heard throughout the room was the noise Doyoung was making in between your thighs.
As he was lying flat on his stomach, you were able to see his hips, which just as expected were grinding down into the cushions of your couch.
“Seems like I was right, you are humping my couch. How about you put those hips to use and just come fuck me?” His hips stilled, the embarrassment on being caught hit him, hard, but your offer made up for it and soon he was scrambling up to your level.
Doyoung somehow tripped over himself, losing balance and landing on top of you. “Eager, huh?” His clothed dick rubbed against your cunt as he pushed himself even closer to you. Doyoung was drooling, and you felt him place wet kisses along your neck, occasionally sucking.
He kept searching your neck for that specific spot, not stopping until he felt you’re his buck up and a soft moan to leave your parted lips. Doyoung chuckled and you rubbed against his dick harder, causing his laugh to be interrupted by a hoarse moan.
“Don’t get cocky Doie. You haven’t even fucked me yet.” He looked up at you from your neck and pushed himself off of you. He stood up and removed his clothes, baring his body to you, including his cock, which was painfully hard and had pre-cum dribbling out of the red tip.
“Please, let me fuck you. I need to feel you.” Doyoung was lowering himself to be closer to you. “Please Doie, need you inside.” You gave him a smile to encourage him, as well as to help melt the nervousness brewing inside him.
Doyoung looked at your face to decipher if your words were sincere and then looked down to align himself to your awaiting hole.
He pushed in and as soon as your walls constricted around his throbbing cock, his eyes were rolling back. “You feel so good. Been thinking about this for so long.” He dropped his head down to your chest and latched onto your nipple.
Threading your fingers through his hair, you moaned as the multiple sources of pleasure were taking over your body.
You knew that you weren’t going to last much longer and that’s the only thing you feared, Doyoung made you this way. Feral almost.
“Fuck, Doie, I’m gonna cum soon. Please cum with me. Cum in me, please.” His head shot up from your chest and he asked, “Are you sure?”
You nodded and stroked his back, “I wanna feel you even more.” His hips sped up, determined to get the both of you at your releases at the same time.
One of his hands disappeared from by your head and traveled down your body and to your clit. Rubbing the nub caused you to clench even more which pushed Doyoung’s release to hit him. The feeling of the first rope of his cum entering you triggered you to fall over the edge as well.
Throwing your head back, your entire body tensed up as heat took over you and blood reached your ears.
Doyoung’s thrusts slowed down and eventually stopped completely. Barely able to hold himself up anymore, he lowered himself onto you completely and maneuvered the both of you to be on your sides, still facing each other.
“Wow, that was, wow.” He looked at you with nothing, but adoration and you giggled and kissed his lips softly.
You looked at Doyoung and thought about the perfect relationship you had laid out in from of you. The sex you just had was hands down the best, no because it resulted in the strongest orgasm, but because it was the first time you had sex with someone you truly loved.
“Never hesitate to want me Doyoung. I can promise you; I want you too.”

hao was looking for some more hairclips and found some really cute ones
and he wanted to get your opinion on them
so he grabbed some and went to look for you
but then he saw some other person with you 🤔
he went closer and heard that the person asked for your number so he swooped in
“oh hey, dear. look what i found!”
side-eyes the person but it’s discreet so they don’t notice
shows you the hairclips with the most brightest smile ever 🎀
“aren’t they the cutest? do you want one?”
doesn’t wait for your answer and just pulls you to where he found the hairclips and leaves the person standing there 🧍
“i know i saved you, no need to thank me.”
— sung hanbin
he’s accompanying you
most likely there to help you pick out some clothes
he finds matching shirts and is like
‘omg, i must get these’ 😮
he’s all giddy and stuff to show you the shirts
and then he sees someone talking to you
and he’s like “oh! who’s this?”
at first he thinks that the person you’re talking to is a friend
and then he overhears the bad pickupline and is shook 😀
politely interrupts with a smile and pulls you away
“hi, sorry to interrupt but i just left something that i believe belongs to me.”
— seok matthew
asked you to accompany him
and you’re head over heels for him so you agreed
he needs more of his perfume (cologne?? idk) and starts explaining to you why his perfume scent is the best 👍
and while he’s explaining, he notices someone staring at you
doesn’t really care until they come up to you and start flirting
he steps in the middle of both of you and goes ‘hey buddy.’ 😃
you get a bit worried because matthew is a buff guy
“smell this. good right?”
the person agrees and they talk about the perfume
and you’re just there
they finally finish chatting and you both walk out the store and matthew looks so happy 😭
“they have good taste! too bad, both you and this perfume are mine.”
— shen ricky
mr. young and rich is spoiling you obv 😗
he tells you that you can grab anything you want and he’ll pay for it
you declined at first but he was like ‘i’m being serious, go all out’
so you instantly rushed to grab things (get that bag !)
he was waiting for you at the cash register
and he noticed that you were gone for waaaayy too long and got worried
so he went to find you and saw you conversing with someone else
as soon as he stepped in,
the person was like ‘uh.. i have to go now’
his aura is intimidating, ok. 😃
“what was that about?”
— park gunwook
is there to help you shop
mostly bcuz he likes being w you
he offers to hold all your bags 🫢
then he notices someone staring at you
and he’s staring back
he does not stop staring
he’s like cursing with his eyes cuz he’s too polite to say it directly 👍
you see this and you’re like ‘???’
it actually scares them off
you didn’t know what was going on so you asked why he was staring like that to an innocent person
“innocent? they were literally threatening me!”
— kim taerae
helping you to pick out clothes for an event
cuz he thinks his fashion sense is 100% better than yours 😐
and you disagree
so you both split up, picking out different clothes to compare whose is better
so when taerae was done, he went to find you
and saw you with someone he didn’t recognize
he genuinely thinks it’s an old friend of yours
so he comes in like “oh my god! long time no see!”
they continue to flirt w you and taerae is like
“i hope you know cpr cause you just took my breath away.” “that’s kinda funny, shouldn’t you be dead by now?” 😭
he keeps laughing at their flirting and they get annoyed and leave
“your friend is a funny one!”
— kim gyuvin
you dragged him with you
you insisted it would be fun
and then he was stuck walking around with you for hours and kept complaining his legs hurt 😦
so he just stopped walking for a while
and since he didn’t want to get lost again, he went to look for you
and he did
but he found you with another person !
and he saw the flirtatious winks they gave
and started screaming “STRANGER DANGER!!” ‼️
granted, it scared the guy off
but it also got you both kicked you out of the store
“i’m a lifesaver!”
— kim jiwoong
he’s accompanying you pt. 2
just follows you everywhere and doesn’t say anything
unless you ask for his opinion on something
got distracted by the perfumes and lost you 😭
and then he found you with another guy
overhears the failed flirting
and walks in, putting his arm around your shoulder
eyes the guy up and down and starts interrogating him 😀
“how old are you? where do you work at? what’s your salary?”
the guy thinks that jiwoong is your dad and is trying his best to get his approval
“yeah, no. you failed the test. let’s go, babe.”
— han yujin
you invited him along
and he agreed cuz he likes doing stuff w you
judges your preference in items the whole time 😔
went to go hide somewhere to try and scare you by randomly popping up
until some guy comes up to you and starts flirting
at first he doesn’t know what to do and just kinda stands there 🧍
but he couldn’t take it so he interrupts them
“can we go get icecream? pleaseeee” practically begging
you got weirded out by the guy and wanted to escape so you agreed
while walking away, yujin turns around and sticks his tongue out at the guy
and mouths ‘loser’ while he’s at it 🫵
“good thing i saved him from you.” “aw, than- wait, what?”

xxtc-96xx Callout post
To start I want you to know I didn't want things to have to come to this but after recent developments and discussions from others I cannot ignore what's been going on for years now. This is a problem revolving around the user @xxtc-96xx , the comic Endertale, and the Undertale fandom. I will try to explain what I know and offer proof when I can, but there might be some sloppiness as this is my first real post on Tumblr. If there is any technical issues about this post, please let me know so I can fix it.
Let me start from the beginning. I have been a long time fan of xxtc-96xx since about 2016 (I will refer to them as TC to make it easier). I have enjoyed looking at the art they create for many years, mainly the ones revolving around Endertale.
Endertale is a fan comic that TC made of the game Undertale. It's a very decent story with a pleasant art style. I would recommend it but I cannot and I will get to why. You see TC has suffered from something that just about any creator can relate to, burnout. The most recent comic page being posted in 2021 though there was already a hiatus established before that.
While they made it long clear that they needed to go on break for personal reasons, people wanted to ask for when they will continue it. Some of them calm and reasonable and other's were very much not nice. TC answered them honestly at first.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Then it started to devolve into troll responses or just not answering.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Not just on Tumblr but people kept asking on Deviantart as well. In fact people are still asking today in 2024. It has gotten so frequent that TC felt it necessary to change their profile header to this:
Tumblr media
And it has stayed that way for so long I lost track of when it started. To be fair, even I found the frequent questions to be overwhelming and they just like every artist who makes stuff for free is entitled to take a break from their work. However this post isn't a complaint about how long it takes to finish a comic, it's about something that started because of the wait.
See, their original reason to take a break was because they were too busy with personal matters for them to commit to an actual comic. But as their history up to today has shown that's no longer a valid excuse. As time went on they started to show an interest in the Pokemon fandom. specifically the pokemon known as Mewtwo. To make a long story short, what started as small doodles grew into a whole bunch of fancomics and animations. To compare, they have drawn nearly four times as many Pokemon drawings compared to Undertale. Now, it is perfectly fair and acceptable to find an interest in a different fandom. And while I personally prefer Undertale over Pokemon I completely supported their decision to focus on other fandoms and enjoyed what they made. I also understood their issues with the fandom at the time, some people were rather aggressive, rude, or demanding the comic to be completed, a comic that's completely free that they make no profit out of. I even recall one point they tried to unsuccessfully drag a different content creator into this issue as if it would somehow work.
However I started to notice they had a warped perception on the fandom. Rather than blame the few people that harassed them online with constant asks, they believed that the entire fandom as a whole is to blame as declared it all toxic. Something they insist on repeating to all their fans and making them believe their opinion as fact.
Now for the record I am very aware of how toxic this fandom was and can be at times. I was around since the beginning and have seen just about every drama that has come. From the fans harassing you for not doing the pacifist route in the first time playing, people arguing if either Frisk or Chara is a really bad person, arguing over Frisk's and Chara's gender, is genocide the right choice, is Toriel the bad guy or Asgore, and a controversy revolving around a certain creator of the au Glitchtale (the last one TC coincidentally emulates their "Delay work for one week for every ask" and finds it amusing). I know this fandom is not the best but I love it all the same, it's as much a part of my life as it is for TC. I know I am not perfect at showing my interest for Undertale, as this image of a private ask shows.
Tumblr media
Or this time I made a obviously joke ask and apparently I didn't realize a lot of people don't understand sarcasm.
Tumblr media
Or when I tried to ask this sincere and nonaggressive question, one of the few times TC isn't putting up some kind of attitude.
Tumblr media
Or this other ask from me.
Tumblr media
At the end of the day this is just a comic. No one has any right to demand them to continue it or make death threats, this is completely unacceptable. However, at the same time this doesn't mean the creator should dehumanize the entire fandom or punish the few that are being respectful. They wait and what do they get, people mocking them and bullying them. That's what I realized in the past week when I engaged in the comments of a few posts. TC allow their fans to bully the fandom.
I tried to be as calm and reasonable as I can and yet I get called out as a toxic fan. And in the end did TC scold everyone else, no, they basically told me to shut up. I overestimated the fans intelligence and if they could handle basic logic, read the comments for yourself to see my point. As someone with Asperger and anger issues, it's a god given miracle I am still trying to maintain my composure within this insanity that has been going on for years. I have spoken with several content creators who asked to remain anonymous about this entire fiasco and we have similar conclusions about TC.
TC has been through a lot of painful and hurtful comments over the years that they did not deserve in the slightest. They are entitled to do whatever they want with their comic and works. Saying a fandom is or isn't toxic is unhelpful as you fundamentally miss the mark on how fandom culture works. As a creator, it is not right to hang this hiatus over people's heads and string them along. TC does not respect their Undertale fans in the slightest and mocks those who is still waiting. They indirectly encourage their other fans to bully and dehumanize the rest.
I held back on making a comment about all this for two reasons. One, TC's fandom terrifies me. They are complete smug hypocrites who spend way too much time on the internet that they don't realize that if they use their words in real life they will get punched in the face for it. Two, despite everything I still believe that TC can change. I like to believe the best in everyone and that there is hope that maybe this time TC will realize they have become the very thing they hate. That hope has faded to cinders. I'm done with TC, my only concern is the people remaining to wait for the comic.
To everyone who is waiting for Endertale and/or following TC because you like their Undertale stuff, leave them and never come back. They do not respect you, they look down on you, they laugh watching you wait, you deserve better than them. Even if they do finish the comic eventually it will not be made out of love or passion.
DO NOT harass and bully them because of my words. I will not tolerate any attempt to do so.
My final words are for TC if they even decide to read this:
TC, I know we are not friends, you made that clear long ago but I was hoping we could've been. You were a huge inspiration for me in the past and was what pushed me to attempt learning about art. I looked up to you and tried to support you when you were feeling down. You are no longer that person.
You do not have the right to condemn an entire fandom as toxic and declare it as a fact of life. It's people like you that keep the fandoms so divided to this day. It's because of people like you I am scared for my life if I ever mention Undertale in public. Your fixation on the sins of the past prevents us from moving forward. I do not excuse what happened but the past is in the past, get over it and grow up, you are an adult so act like it.
You say you don't owe us any comic or works, well at the same time if you want to mistreat the fandom I care about then I or anybody don't owe you any respect yet I did for nearly five years.
Why? Because I cared about how this all made you feel. What do you see when you look at me, another obsessed toxic fan who should keep their mouth shut or a PERSON with their own thoughts feelings and beliefs?
One of your problems is that you think nothing ever seems to be your fault, just the fans who keep asking. Well maybe they wouldn't have asked if you didn't leave them hanging for almost five years. To me, it no longer matters if you finish Endertale or not.
Maybe you still think it isn't your fault, then that makes me the idiot for hoping you can be better. You hurt me, really hurt me. I don't think I can ever trust someone like you again.
Do you know what I really want?
Your apology. I want you to make a genuine apology to me and the fandom at your actions over the years. I won't block you because being the idiot I am I hope my words mean something to you and you'll want to chat.
But until you wise up ask yourself this familiar question,
Do you really think you are above consequences?

Love me or hate me, both are in my favor (Miguel O’Hara x Fem! Reader [HS Academic rivals AU])

Hiii! Ya girl is sick 🙃 but it’s okay! I wanted this chapter to be longer but I felt like it was taking too long to put out so I’m gonna just make the next one longer. Hope you enjoy! Not proofread.
(L/Y)- Last name.
Um, Shakespeare? Miguel and reader squabbling, cursing, nothing really tbh.

Chapter 5: And I never dreamed that I'd lose somebody like you
You felt a little delusional, having found yourself growing fond of the masked hero. But how could you not? He was so kind, offering to drop you off back to your room, he was probably just doing his job as the friendly neighborhood Spider-Man, seeing you struggling to make your way across the campus while he was probably watching the streets, and saw you needed some help. But you’re just a girl, who were you to not allow yourself to be a bit delulu and pretend that the spider was in love with you?
Shaking your head, getting rid of the lingering thoughts of your favorite insect, your giddiness started to turn to annoyance when your mind shifted to your lovely (derogatory) English partner. What a jerk, leaving a poor injured girl on campus like that. Without even realizing it you start to compare the two in your head, despite not having interacted with the wall-crawling hero for more than an hour if you added both interactions together time-wise. It’s a bit of a silly comparison the more you sit on it, what would a loser like Miguel have in common with Spider-Man?
You drop the thoughts as you placed your headphones on and begin to listen to music, pulling out your math homework.
Miguel pulled his navy blazer all the way on, making sure the buttons on his white button up were down properly after having missed a button the first time. Half-hazardly making sure he didn’t trip over his untied shoelaces as he turned a corner and almost crashed with another student wandering the halls. Shouting a rushed apology as he adjusted his book bag over his shoulder again, having to make sure it didn’t fall as he went from corridor to corridor.
He didn’t have to be a genius to know that he was gonna get a ear full for abandoning you in the library, he'd be surprised if you even opened the door for him when he shows up to your room unannounced. Praying that him helping you back to it while in his spider persona will help earn him some brownie points if it’s it’s as Spider-Man and not… Miguel. You wouldn’t know the difference, sure but it was most just so he didn’t feel as guilty.
The fact he felt guilt towards you in anyway at all was a bit too much for him to fully process, Miguel wasn’t the type to sympathize with others despite his super alter-ego, so finding himself go out of his way for the girl that has made his academic career a living hell since the 6th grade was… a lot to say the least. Dwelling on it for more than a few seconds was enough to make his temples begin to pulse with tension. So he’ll push it down into the caverns of his mind where he’ll abandon the thoughts until they vanish completely, although that task was difficult to do when he was forced into such close proximity to you due to this stupid, and in his opinion unnecessary assignment. But… no point in tanking either of your grade point averages because of his stubborn pride.
He hadn’t even realized he had arrive in front of your door because of all of his thoughts running rampant, deciding to wait for a second before knocking, telling himself that it’s so he doesn’t look completely out of breath, swinging from downtown to your dorm, then back to his just to ran back to yours, and not to help him prolong the upcoming conversation with you.
He knocked after finally recomposing him, shuffling his weight on his feet as he waited, a tick he’s picked up from his brother. There was no answer, so he knocked again, a bit louder now. He knew you weren’t asleep already, it was too early for you to be asleep. He subconsciously released a breath he didn’t know he was holding when he heard the faint muffled sound of sheets shuffling, before footsteps then being met face-to-face with you. It was obvious it took you a second to register his presence, your small smiling face slowly forming into your usual scowl when you were around him.
“Hey-wait-wait!.” His foot darted out to keep you from fully closing the door in his face, not even so much as flinching when you brought your small one out in an attempt to kick his away with your fluffy bunny slippers. “I know, I know- I should have told you- I couldn’t make it!-“ Despite your smaller stature, you were putting one hell of a fight against his feet, he wouldn’t be surprised if you end up injuring your good foot by the end of this.
“Like hell you should have!” You foot finally came to a halt only for your balled fist to hit his shoulder, he gave no reaction since it didn’t hurt at all, but his jaw did tense a bit, stopping himself from straight up picking you up again like he did last time he came to your dorm unannounced, not wanting to piss you off more. “Your lucky Spiderman spotted me and helped me back to my room, or else I’d be more pissed off from having to do all that walk.”
“Spider-Man huh?” Miguel’s eyebrows shot up as he attempted to act surprised, taking his foot away from It’s makeshift post as a door stopper. “Isn’t he supposed to be stopping crime, not picking up random girls at night time?” The comment slipped from his lips subconsciously, a self criticism, but you for some reason had taken the comment as a personal jab, him noting the lines scattered between your eyebrows deepening as he quickly brought his hand to keep the door from closing again.
“Is there a reason you’re here ooor…” God why did you always have to be so bratty, one of these days he was gonna shut up that pretty fucking mouth of yours. It took all his composure to not turn around and stomp back to his own room, he'd rather deal with Gabriel’s loud-ass gaming sessions with his friends than another sarcastic quip of yours.
“I’m here so we can work on the stupid project.” He groaned with an eyeroll, “so can you just let me in so we can get this over with? The sooner we start the sooner we finish.”
With a sigh you open the door.
“Death, that hath suck'd the honey of thy breath, hath had no power yet upon thy beauty: thou art not conquer'd; beauty's ensign yet Is crimson in thy lips and in thy cheeks, and death's pale flag is not advanced there- I’m sorry, I can’t, I feel like my soul is dying, I’d rather blow my brains out then have to continue to read the rest of this mind-numbing monologue.” Miguel groaned as he tossed his copy of the scene on your coffee table, before crossing his arms over his chest. You let out an exasperated sigh as you allow yourself to fall backwards on your bed that you were both sitting on, the smiths playing quietly in the background from your vinyl record player.
“It’s been 5 minutes O’Hara.”
“And I refuse to read another 5 minutes more.” With a groan you begin to slowly pick yourself back up into a sitting position as he continues to rant. “This whole thing is stupid,” he motioned to the pages he now had scattered on your table, “he barely knew the girl, and he’s gonna just… end it all for her, completely insane.” He shook his head, the bed dipping underneath him as leaned back, resting on his forearms.
“Okay, I admit it is a bit…asinine…but-“ You murmured, before being cut off.
“But?” Miguel shot back up, looking at you as if you had grown a second head.
“Buuut, they were young and in love. Only a few years younger than us, love makes you do foolish things,” You attempt to reason with a shrug, only to be met with a scoff and an eye roll. The dismissive action from the male made you scowl a bit, not like how quickly he can write off the concept, “but you wouldn’t know anything like that, your heart’s made of ice, O’Hara.”
“And yours of glass, (L/N).”

Hi lovely and thank for your sharing and caring in this fandom!
A bit finicky question, I'm here with. Don't know if I managed to mention different perspectives enough and contextualize it the way I wanted to, but anyway, do feel free to ignore or maybe just leave some tags:
What are your thoughts, your two pennies and just today (tomorrow is another day and maybe a new perspective), about the conversation going on about the commenting culture (nowadays in AO3):
the lack and/or decline of it
the urgent need for community, engagement, participation and positive feedback loop for authors
but also the growing and changing audience for fanfic
the growing idea that a fic is not a gift (it most certainly is) but some "factory produced and guaranteed content that keeps on coming and you are entitled to it"
the lack of reading comprehension skills
and the lack of skills to figure out the appropriate time and place for giving critique
but also the small but growing portion of authors who demand only certain kind of praise, worded in a certain kind of way and if not delivered accordingly attack brutally on everything and everyone
the cultural differencies as a player in participating, giving positive feedback and even using foreign language words
and of course the ever growing and spreading comment anxiety on "both sides"
and so on...
So how do you see it? What's your perspective? You are both an author and a reader. But then again, you are a reader who writes, so you actually know, what a writer likes to see in their comment field...
Hi, anon! Whew, well this is a lot, but I'm going to answer as much as I can haha. As you said, this is just my own perspective on things. I'd say I also have a little added perspective of being a writer who reads and writes in more than one popular fanfic fandom. So I can't help but compare my experiences in both.
I don't think the One Direction fandom has ever been overly generous with the kudos and comments to be perfectly honest. I think if you talk to writers who are active in other fic fandoms of similar sizes/popularity, they'd likely agree with that.
I want to be clear to start with here that I feel like readers have been very kind to me over the years. I've been here a long time now though, so I get the benefit of the doubt with some long time readers and those who subscribe to my ao3. But I also think that in part I have encouraged comments in a way that not every writer can or wants to do.
I answer every single comment. I answer them in a way that mirrors back the comment that was made. If you leave a long comment, I answer back in detail. If you send me something shorter, (which is fine and I love any and all comments!) I will answer back in a similar way. I also answer back pretty quickly. There are times I get behind, but I rarely get behind more than a month or so. And the day my fic posts, I try to answer every comment that gets posted on that first day.
Am I saying everyone needs to do what I do? Absolutely not! It takes a lot of time and energy to do that! But I do think there's a correlation to be made there. Readers see all the comments, see they're being answered quickly, and feel comfortable or like it's okay to leave one, too. OH, and also I want to say that me answering back (maybe obsessively) quickly is something that probably isn't possible for people who have a fic explode in popularity. I might have some popular fics but none of them were like overnight explosions in popularity. They've all been slow burners lol.
As for concrit with fic...I think it depends on the fandom. It is not something that is looked upon kindly in ours. There are definitely writers out there who ask for it which is fine, but the etiquette in our fandom is not to offer it unless asked for it. In my opinion, this makes a lot of sense for our fandom. Since writers are not getting the numbers of kudos and comments that are given more freely in other fandoms, it's a bit of a hard pill to swallow that we'd then expect them to also take unsolicited writing critiques.
Just using my own fics as an example, by the time I publish a fic multiple other writers have already read it. It's been proofread and betad by a writer with an MFA in creative writing. I'm not going to be taking concrit seriously from someone whose background in writing I don't know. When I publish the fic, it's done, I'm happy with the result, and I'm not going back to it to make changes. So there's not much point in telling me what I should have done differently with it.
Your point about some writers being perhaps overly sensitive about some comments...I wanted to say a few things about. There are a few common comments that immediately came to mind that writers have differing views on, and I think it's worthwhile for readers to think about.
One is something like I wish this was longer or please write more of this. If you comment this on any of my fics, I'll smile and consider it a compliment that you enjoyed it enough to want more. If you go through my comments, you'll see this is indeed what I've replied back to comments like that. There are other writers that are going to be exasperated by that comment or even offended by it. And even though I'm not one of them, I would say try to see it from their perspective.
What if that writer has spent months on that fic the reader considers "short"? I think readers sometimes forget just how much TIME goes into these fics. Just because a fic is 10k, 5k, whatever doesn't mean it didn't take a long time to write. And someone who spent months of time on something who likely didn't receive a whole lot of comments in the first place, and then one of the few comments they get could be interpreted as this wasn't enough. That's disheartening, you know? I think if you have the urge to leave that comment, maybe think first about the writer you're leaving that comment for. Or even think of a different way to say it like, "I could have lived in this fic forever" which is what I like to think is what most readers are trying to convey with comments like that.
Another one is who tops? Just don't, I'd say for that comment. I simply don't answer ones like that. But I'd say check the tags. If it's not tagged, either choose to move on if you have to know to read it or ctrl+F the fic yourself for the word "cock" or whatever. If the writer doesn't tag it, it means they didn't care about that. Or they got annoyed with their fics being reduced to that too often. PWP eh fine, but my 80k amnesia au I had a nervous breakdown writing that has one sex scene...eff off that's not what the fic is about. I once wrote a fic about grief. GRIEF! (well, and Antarctic scientists) that people argued over whether it was bottom Louis. And I resolved to never tag it again after that.
As for the fic as a gift vs not a gift I agree with you...I don't know what else you'd call something that is given for free. That's the definition of "gift." If someone reads the fic, a kudos is like a verbal thank you and a comment would be like a thank you card.
The comment anxiety thing I don't have an issue with myself, but I know writers who do and can't bring themselves to answer their comments. One of my friends feels so badly for not answering but when she tries she says her replies don't feel like enough. It's too bad that she can't answer due to actually loving her comments TOO much! Anxiety is a bitch for sure. For anyone who wants to leave a comment but is worried about it, I promise that super short ones or even keysmashes or emojis are very welcome! I have a mutual on tumblr who leaves the same comment on every one of my fics that simply says she loved the fic and I promise it makes me happy every single time because now I know she read it and enjoyed it whereas I might have missed whether or not she left a kudos. And when I see her on my dash, I think that's the one who loves my fics! :)
I swear I'm gonna stop rambling, but I want to end with one more thing. I think it would be interesting for readers and writers to experience a different fandom sometime if they're only in this one. It's not always a better/worse thing, but it might make people more open to trying new things like commenting/replying more or in different ways.

Hi Seamus,
I hope the first question doesn't violate you or is too personal, I'm just a follower of you and your art, so I want to know a bit more about the artist himself.
• Do you miss your wife, and if so, what was she like?
• How do you and Kelly even start shootings, is it the idea for the picture that comes first or is it first the scenery and then the idea?
• What camera do you use?
(I myself prefer a Canon eos 450d and a panasonic lumix dc-g9 ii) I hope you have a lovely day/night.

Hello!
Feel free to ask me as many questions as you like; I have no issues speaking of both myself and my work (although, perhaps I may suffer a deplatforming for speaking too freely about my work publicly like this. Only time will tell!). Your curiosity warms me and I continuously seek to connect with like-minded individuals.
Q: Do you miss your wife, and if so, what was she like?
My former wife, Molly, was a brilliant and bright woman; perhaps one of the kindest I have ever known. I dare say that the only enemy she faced in the time she was alive was circumstance. She was quite the romantic and had a distinct way with words; each simile and metaphor which left her mouth was novel and thought-provoking. In a better time for women such as today, or even back when she was alive, I firmly believe she would have made a fine novelist if more people simply believes in her talents.
To answer your question about whether or not I miss her: I think about her frequently, but to say I miss her would do her wrong: I don't believe she would have wanted me to miss her. We both came to understand that we simply were not meant to be, and to act pretend we were would have been dishonest to not only ourselves but to one another. I can only hope she found what she was looking for.
Q: How do you and Kelly even start shootings, is it the idea for the picture that comes first or is it first the scenery and then the idea?
An excellent question. Inspiration is quite the odd thing, and I find that it manifests itself in different fashions for me. What is consistent, however, is that it is always the concept which comes first, and because I most often work in portraits, the subject of the image is the most important thing to work with.
Allow me to elaborate: years ago, I once met a boy and his fascinating entourage. Nathaniel was his name. It was when I laid my eyes upon him that I knew he would make for the most fascinating subject of photography, for in him I could sense the isolation, the undirected anger, the seeking of connection. There was so much to work with, so many facets of his being to slowly peel away at and showcase.
The most important part of photographing a portrait is that your photograph of the subject tells the viewer something about them. This is something I am only able to achieve through getting to know the subject personally.
To recapitulate my answer concisely: what I aim to capture is the sordid beauty of the human state. As such, both the idea and the scene is always found within the person I showcase.
Q: What camera do you use?
Ah, the hardware... Did you know I still do own my first bellows camera? Compared to the devices the modern market has to offer, it is quite the relic, but to this day, it still works! :) I occasionally still make use of it.
I have had to switch cameras a few times due to rapid advancements. Presently, however, I have gravitated towards the Nikon D750. A terrific and reliable camera which also works excellently in lower light. It meets my needs as a photographer and, in my opinion, simply feels correct in my hands.
Thank you for taking the time to ask me questions! I hope I hear from you soon.

Is there a dmbj fandom space of sort that's... Not focused on Liu Chang characters? Or to put a positive angle on it, I'd love to talk about dmbj canon and its characters and their on page/screen interactions or how the books and sites compare but I'm not really sure where to do that? Do you have a discord or tumblr tag or blog suggestions? (Or if that doesn't exist, this is a marker of interest if you make one. I think there's actually if nothing else a lot of people in this fandom who are interested in pingxie who don't know where to go to talk to each other because it seems like most of the fandom spaces apart from the yucun discord are pretty dead)
hi anon! i’m both glad and sad you asked because i get that feeling and i’m sorry to say there’s… not really much of a good answer i can give you 🫠 though i can offer the start of one at least
a lot of the problem is the people you’re talking about, for reasons i don’t fully understand myself, have come to take up most of the visibility in the public fandom spaces to almost the exclusion of anyone and everything else. this is definitely a hot and likely unpopular take, but it’s gotten to the point where ironically (as far as the english speaking fandom goes at least, the chinese fandom is very different) in some respects, pingxie has become something of a “rarer” pair these days by comparison to ships involving more minor characters, particularly ones involving the characters you mentioned, and i find wu xie and xiaoge themselves are less talked about outside of the context of those ships than the characters you mentioned as a whole. and this isn’t a post meant to dunk on those particular interests, just my opinion on what the dmbj fandom is like at this point in time. the issue is, like you said, it leaves the people who aren't interested in that lost and with no one to talk to despite i'm sure there being a lot of us that would love a place to actively engage with each other
as far as places to talk about pingxie and the dmbj canon in general outside of that, in my experience tumblr doesn’t have all that much to offer apart from a few isolated people unfortunately. just checking the main tags tells you as much, but there are a few people. but i also know tumblr isn’t necessarily the best space for genuine conversations as i get the feeling that’s more what you’re looking for (correct me if i’m wrong). there’s a bit more going on on twitter, but it’s also fairly marginal and it also depends on what it is you want to talk about (and also, it’s twitter).
for discord servers, i can suggest 3 options, two of which i’m sure you’ve probably heard of:
the “dmbj (盗墓笔记)” server (https://discord.gg/xjTSVdUP), which was the original server created before the yucun one was and is technically the largest one (the yucun discord server actually broke off from it in part to be a space more dedicated to liu sang and liu chang characters and eventually became the fandom’s most active hub). fair warning, it’s pretty dead in the sense most of the minimal talk that goes on there isn’t really about dmbj at all, and is more generally drama-oriented. it’s also not strictly dedicated to pingxie
the “dmbj book-centric fun times” server (https://discord.com/invite/z7ZNNEbv3P), which as its name suggests, is book-oriented rather than drama-oriented. it’s also pretty dead apart from one or two sporadic posts from time to time, which i see as partly the consequence of a good chunk of the dmbj fandom either not having read the books or not particularly caring about them by comparison to other things. that being said, if enough people went there, i’m sure it could be more active. this one is also not strictly dedicated to pingxie
the “盗墓笔记 - changbai mountain” server, which is going to be my biased suggestion as it’s a tiny server started somewhat recently by myself and a couple of other friends who felt the same and wanted to try and create a safe space to talk about pingxie (and other ships if relevant, though by this i mostly mean heihua for now) and the dmbj canon and its characters as a whole. it’s very small atm and as active as it can be given that, and while it’s open to anyone interested, because of previous experiences with some people in the fandom, i would need you to get off anon and dm me if you (or anyone else reading this) is interested (as long as you’re comfortable with that ofc) as i don’t necessarily feel comfortable posting a public invite. for the record, anyone interested is very welcome to dm, we really do need more alternative fandom spaces
i’m sorry i can’t help more anon, but i hope this is something of an ok answer even if it’s not the best one

don't get me wrong, im enjoying the show for the most part, but why did you say it's not fantasy, it's real? literally like the first 5 minutes of the first episode proved how unrealistic it is when the science guy says there are no treatments/preventatives/cures for fungus. and then the lady in the second episode says the same thing
Alright I guess strap yourself in for this one. You’re gonna learn stuff you didn’t ask about. So, everything the guy says in the opening scene of the first episode is real except that there are no treatments. This was to demonstrate how the story straddles the line between fantasy and (a potential, far off, probably not as apocalyptic) reality. I keep seeing articles pop up all over, so I’m pretty sure most viewers are aware by now that this specific fungus, othiocordyceps, exists in real life. But we’ve also been reassured in those same articles that it can’t survive in human hosts, and if it ever were to it wouldn’t be anytime soon. Instead of humans, we see it in ants and the term “zombie ants” has become quite popular. It takes over the ant’s central nervous system, allowing it to alter the behavior of the ant for the benefit of the fungus, as far as growing and spreading, which is literally it’s only goal and purpose. It manipulates the ant into moving to a more humid and/or wet area which is more conducive for fungal growth. It then kills the ant, continues to grow within it, and eventually grows out of the ants head and ruptures, releasing spores. It’s terrifying but it hasn’t yet evolved to survive in humans. But it’s not impossible for it to, which is why I thought that intro was a smart move. Because then he offers a scenario in which it could be possible. It’s no longer a matter of opinion, but rather an undeniable fact that the earth is warming at an alarming and unprecedented rate. Glaciers melt and once thought to be extinct pathogens are released. Climate changes alter animal migration patterns, forcing them closer to humans, thus causing disease to jump from animal to human like so many already have. Deforestation causes viruses to look for new hosts. This change in the environment that is already happening, is changing all organisms. Look at candida auris.. a relatively new fungus that seemed to come out of nowhere. It inexplicably emerged independently on 3 different continents simultaneously and then quickly spread across the globe. There’s a theory that it’s the first fungal infection to come from climate change. It causes severe illness, is very invasive, and very treatment resistant.
So, back to the show. What the epidemiologist says about there being no treatment is something we know to be false. Antifungal medications exist, but there aren't many of them, especially when compared to the 100+ antibiotics currently in use, there are a much smaller number of approved antifungals. This is because fungus and humans are both eukaryotes (bacteria on the other hand are prokaryotes). Fungus is much more closely related to humans and share the same basic cell structure. Because we are so similar, it's harder to create drugs that target and damage fungus cells without also damaging human cells at the same time. Now what he says about there being no preventative or cure, what the woman in the second episode says about there being no vaccine, this is true. There is currently no approved vaccine for fungal infections.
So to answer your question simply... generally speaking, almost all of what's said is real. To reiterate, they exaggerated it just enough to demonstrate that the story straddles the line between fantasy and (a potential, far off, probably not as apocalyptic) reality, and that's what makes it so compelling and scary. I'm not saying that I think cordyceps will evolve to survive human hosts (not anytime soon at least), and if it did, I definitely don't believe it would turn humans into “zombies," although I do think whatever it would do would probably be pretty bad. But it is possible, and what I do believe is that if climate change continues at this rate, or god forbid an increased rate, it will lead to catastrophic consequences of innumerable kinds, including altering pathogens in a way that would cause them to pose a much greater threat than they currently do. It's fantasy, an exaggeration of truth, but it's also a warning and I'm happy to see people are actually talking about that. Who would've thought? 🤷‍♀️

Thinking about the Thing (1982) vs the Thing (2011) is such an interesting topic to me, especially concerning the titular alien and how each movie chose to represent it and why 1982 is superior in almost every way. The obvious answer here is that the cgi from 2011 didn’t even look that good back then, and no way does it hold up now, meanwhile the practical effects from 1982 will never not look amazing, but to me there’s more to it than that.
I once heard the argument that in the 2011 version the cgi is a benefit because the Thing is allowed to be a much more physical presence/scarier on screen than the much slower 1982 Thing. However, I don’t think this is a benefit at all. Sure, it’s objectively true that with cgi it allows for much more mobile/dynamic designs that a practical costume would struggle to conceptualize as quickly, but that speed and such actively detracts from the Thing’s viability as an organism. In the 1982 version, transformations took time and effort. You could see exactly what the creature was incorporating mixed with the surreal. More than that, the time it took to achieve these transformations makes it more believable as a living thing and not just some monster(tm). From a scientific standpoint, having to create and move around massive amounts of tissues like that would take incredible levels of energy and coordination, so the prolonged time is necessary. Meanwhile 2011 is just a pure movie monster with just teeth and tentacles and anything they think looks more monstrous. Transformations happen in moments, as compared to the (usually) more drawn out transformations of the 1982 version.  It takes away what little believability offered and crushed it in favor of being flashy.
To be fair to the 2011 movie, this trend for flashier monsters isn’t exactly something it invented. It was simply riding off the changing tropes in american horror movies. As the years have gone on monsters have to become more dangerous, more indestructable, more optimized for killing dozens of people. The difference in tone is incredibly apparent across dozens of films taken from different time periods. Which I think is a sad loss for the tension drawn out masterpieces like the thing 1982.
However, on the opposite side, 1982′s version 100% could have benefited from a cgi model specifically for the final scene, where mac is facing against this giant abomination of creatures that is trying to stop him from detonating the bombs. Because this is supposed to be a scene of conflict between mac and the Thing, one on one, the lack of movement in the Thing becomes more apparent, and weakens the effect it has a threat. While the most dangerous aspect of the Thing is the paranoia it inflicts, supported by literally the entire movie, this moment also would have been made even better in my opinion by having the monster lunge and snap and terrorize Mac now that there’s no one left to be suspicious of. But hey, at least it’s not the final Thing from the 2011 version. Now that’s what you call a bad movie monster. Yuck.

you don’t have to answer bc this will probably cause discourse lol
i honestly don’t understand how chrissy can be with someone like jason yet people ship her with eddie. like you can’t argue that she didn’t know about all the names that he was called and probably thought them too, since she was afraid/nervous around him in the woods during the drug deal. it’s a small town and even smaller school, you can’t tell me that she didn’t think the same things as jason did. she just had the chance of seeing that he’s actually nice one time and it was during a drug deal.
imo everyone just wants to see themselves as the only pretty, white, thin girl who is available to ship eddie with. if chrissy was black or asian or fat then she would not have as many fans or people feeling sorry for her (in the show and irl). same with Eddie tbh but that’s a whole other can of worms that people on here aren’t ready for.
i probably would’ve liked her character better if she was woc or fat tbh but then tumblr would shame her or ship eddie with nancy instead lol
I'm answering this because a) discourse is okay as long as it's friendly and respectful, and b) because I'd like to offer my own perspective on Chrissy since she's a character I can very much relate to.
First of all, as I said, that's only my opinion but I would have shipped her with Eddie regardless of her outer appearance, body type, ethnicity or even gender for that matter because I see the potential between those two and because I see Chrissy as a character very differently than you do.
I don't mean that as an offense, but you shouldn't generalize the reasons why people like Chrissy or ship her with Eddie; they don't owe anyone an explanation for that and some people, myself included, relate to her for a whole array of deeply personal reasons (and I mean that with shipping completely aside; let's focus on Chrissy as her own character here in this reply).
What I see when I look at Chrissy is a young girl who's hurting because she's forced into a corset of conformity that suffocates her with every day. Her abusive mother and her surroundings have taught her that perfection is what matters (we clearly see that in her Vecna vision, in the facade she's putting up at the pep rally during Jason's speech - the smile never reaches her eyes, they're hollow and sad) and it's literally killing her long before Vecna strikes. She struggles with an eating disorder. Her thinness is the sign of a severe mental illness that kills people in real life. She's a victim of abuse, and she's killed in one of the most brutal, horrendous ways possible. I'm only talking about Chrissy's specific case here, not the general problems of racism and fatphobia in fandom and irl because that would be far too complex to address correctly in a single post - but we, the audience, were meant to feel sorry for Chrissy, and the reasons why many of us do are, again, varying. Personal experience, relating with her struggle etc.
Chrissy is drowning - and I can assure you, as someone who's walked in her shoes, that in her situation, you're in constant survival mode. And Jason being a narcissist doesn't help her situation, but more on that later.
you can’t argue that she didn’t know about all the names that he was called
Yes, Chrissy knew Eddie was being called a freak. But if we see one thing very clearly in the woods scene, it's that she doesn't think of him as that, and that she doesn't treat him as such - and never did because if she had, you can bet that Eddie would have taken way longer to warm to her. Compared with, for example the talk between Steve and Eddie in the UD where Steve doesn't exactly try to make Eddie comfortable or reciprocate the attempt at finding a common ground but instead subconsciously makes Eddie, once again, feel like a freak for his interest in heavy metal, the woods scene shows that Chrissy doesn't view Eddie as a freak, at least not in a bad way because her reaction to Eddie calling her the Queen of Hawkins High vs a Freak is like day and night:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This whole encounter in the woods, regardless of whether you ship them or not, clearly shows us one thing: Chrissy is deeply unhappy, and I'd even call her desperate because she holds on to Eddie for dear life because...this stranger she doesn't even know is the only one she can open up to knowing he won't judge her because he's already a freak. The situation reminds me a bit of Jack and Rose in Titanic tbh, or Belle and The Beast. This concept is indeed as old as time, storytelling-wise.
You can see her performative fake smile at the rally:
Tumblr media
vs her real smile with Eddie:
Tumblr media
I said it before: Eddie and Jason are the embodiment of two very different values. Jason stands for forced conformity and the very real danger of being bullied or worse if you don't conform; Eddie embodies being yourself and knowing your worth even if others don't see it. You can read about that here.
and probably thought them too, since she was afraid/nervous around him in the woods during the drug deal
She was very clearly nervous/afraid because the second before she met Eddie, she had the second absolutely terrifying hallucination in a single day.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now tell me, after that: wouldn't you be nervous/unsettled as well?
Eddie clearly thinks she's scared to get caught first (and tries to calm her, telling her that it was a safe place and nobody would ever come out there to catch them dealing), then he thinks she's scared of him - that's why he tells her he'd go and that it wasn't a problem. To which Chrissy says: "No, it's not that - I don't want you to go." and then she opens up to him because who else does she have to open up to? Jason? Who doesn't see her fading away further with the mental illness that's slowly killing her?
Chrissy was never scared of Eddie. (else, she would've never come to his trailer, but I digress).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The constant pressure to be perfect Chrissy faces at home, by her mother, the comments on her weight we see her making in the Vecna vision: Chrissy has been raised to believe she needs to be flawless and perfect and (since we're all human) Chrissy knows she can never be flawless and perfect, never be enough. It's constant failure, she feels inadequate and her self-esteem is very low because of it no matter that she's the Queen because she knows it's a mask and it's tied to the terms and conditions of being perfect - and being Queen puts her in a spotlight, a constant danger of people realizing she's not perfect.
It's a constant feeling of losig control, and she gains a sense of security and control in the only way she knows how: controlling her weight and her hunger. That's exactly how EDs are developed. (A widespread, very harmful misconception about EDs such as Bulimia Nervosa and Anorexia Nervosa is that those suffering from it hate people who are overweigh when in reality, it's not about weight, they hate themselves because the unattainable standards of perfectionism they were taught to adhere to cannot be attained by them. I say that as a psychologist. Those suffering from EDs are victims of unattainable standards of beauty and perfectionism as much as people who are overweight (I'm only talking about beauty standards here, not about society's reaction. I'm very much aware that people with overweight face fatphobia - they're both victims of the same system; the difference is that those on the underweight side of the spectrum of it "fit" better with the norm and thus are spared the treatment those on the overweight side of the same spectrum sadly have to face).
And that's why she's with Jason, btw, a study-book narcissist and master-manipulator. When you're struggling, especially with a low self-esteem, you fall prey to people like Jason and the sense of security they give you, their status can give you, or simply because you don't feel you deserve better.
Chrissy is running for her life long before Vecna gets her.
Again, you're perfectly entitled to your opinion on Chrissy, just like everyone else. And just like you did in your ask, I'm offering my own perspective on her as a character.

How do you get people to read your fics?
Hi anon!
Good question, which requires a little interpretation on my part to answer but I’ll give it my best shot from my personal experience.
So first I’m gonna make some assumptions that may be right or wrong:
You’ve started writing in your fandom space.
You’ve got a figure in mind for comments/kudos/interactions of some sort
Those numbers aren’t adding up with your expectations and you’re feeling a bit disheartened by it.
Does that sound about right? Well, in my experience there are a lot of things that play into those factors:
People these days tend to give likes/kudos rather than comments/reblogs
If you’re using Tumblr: when you post compared to the timezone of most of your followers/readers can influence how quickly things get picked up.
Some people prefer reading complete fics over WIPs (when in my opinion reading along with WIPs is half the fun)
People have TBR lists a mile long because life gets in the way (hello that’s me) and so maybe your fic is sitting in one of those.
Anyway, let’s try and answer your original question: how to get people to read your fics.
I’m assuming you have Tumblr? which is a good place to start. The AO3 filtering system can be a little counterintuitive so I know a lot of people get their fics here rather than the search function.
Firstly, are you personally also reading and engaging with other peoples works? Because otherwise you’re probably just shouting to the void and not getting any sort of echo. Fandom is a community space, and we help and feed each other. If you’re only ever expecting stuff for your own work but never doing the same for the content you enjoy… you’re not gonna be having a fun time.
Secondly, timezone reblogs are your friend. Admittedly I’ve never really worked this one out properly. But my timezone is whack and a lot of my followers are in the States/Europe. The point is don’t be afraid to reblog your own post at different times. It increases the chance of someone seeing it.
Personally, I like adding banners to fic posts. A.) because they’re fun to make (and procrastinate writing) and B.) they draw the eye better than a solid wall of text if someone is just having a little scroll.
And now here’s a big one: tag your posts with what’s actually in your story/post. Don’t use every ship and character tag under the sun. That’s not how the tag system works on Tumblr, and by doing that you’re more likely to hide your work rather than elevate it. People block tags to cultivate their online space, and you will annoy people tagging things not actually present.
Okay now I’m gonna offer you a little advice that is probably gonna have you frustrated and rolling your eyes at me but it’s kinda important so hear me out for a second:
Stop comparing yourself to others so much (especially the ones who’ve been around in fandom for decades) and just have fun with it for yourself. <- easier said than done.
I’m guessing you came and gave me this ask because you perceive me as someone who already gets a lot of attention for fics. But the thing is… I still feel quite new to this even though I’ve been doing it for a couple of years now. And I do compare myself… to my past self. You might have noticed the post currently pinned to my blog is a year-in-review post that contains AO3 stats. I started doing it for myself to see how far I’ve come in the space of a year, but also it helpfully offers the ability for others to do the same.
So let’s focus on one thing: all of those stats increased (quite significantly) from last year to the previous. But let’s break down what else happened over the course of that year that might explain WHY:
I was also starting to read a lot more.
I’d started to make some good friends in fandom. Which also meant I trusted people enough to start beta/cheer-reading my works before posting.
I started the whole jilymicros setup (the blog, prompts lists, discord, events etc.)
I did a whole heap of challenges and events.
I was starting to feel more comfortable and welcome in fandom space in general.
Those things all heavily influenced the quality of my writing and the size of my audience. A lot of my followers are because I admin those spaces according to a few ‘why are you following me’ ask games. Taking part in events (like those run by jilychallenge, jilytoberfest, or Ladies of HP, to name a few I do) allows you to get out of your comfort zone, try new things, and get your work out there to a wider audience following those spaces. I honestly can’t recommend doing them more. So my advice to you anon really is this:
If you're gonna compare to anybody, compare yourself to yourself.
Engage with others and their works.
Challenge yourself, try new things.
Have fun with it and find out what style works best for you - if you’re not having fun there’s no point doing it. Some of the best fics are the ridiculously self-indulgent.

Chemistry Ch. 1 - Franken Stein / Reader
Summary: Your first days as a new teacher in Death Academy doesn't exactly go as planned. Warnings: Injury, Blood
Tumblr media
[Masterlist]
"Is that the true reason you called me back here?"
Since Master Death had informed you that all Death Scythes were to immediately return to Death Academy, it hasn't even been a full week - and yet, for him to drop a bomb like this before you even had a chance to settle in your new role as teacher...
"No no, my dear! You got it all wrong!" Death answered, frantically waving his hands. "...well, that was not the only reason, at least."
You clenched your fists at this sentence, feeling used and deceived to have been summoned here to serve a completely different purpose.
Becoming the weapon of the infamous Franken Stein? What a farce.
"Correct me if I'm wrong" you spoke with the utmost respect, giving it your best to not let your true sentiment shimmer through, "but isn't the professor perfectly capable of fighting on his own?"
While you've never personally met Dr. Stein, his reputation certainly preceded him...
...and the rumors you heard were more than enough for you to never involve yourself with this person any further.
"As always, you're right!" He snapped with his fingers and you instantly crossed your arms in defense.
"However, there have been a lot of concerning incidents lately - like the appearance of the Demon Sword, for example." Sometimes, Death's constant unnaturally cheerful tone creeped you out - especially when he was talking about a serious matter.
"This is the reason I decided for some precautions, and in case of a Kishin incident Stein needs to be at his peek."
You faced the ground, lip trembling as you desperately tried to ignore Spirit's pitying glare on you.
Ultimatively, your objections were meaningless compared with Death's wits and foresight...
...so you bowed down in acceptance of your fate.
"If you think this is necessary, I comply. I'd never refuse an order from you, Master Death."
___
"As you already know, Stein the most capable meister to ever graduate this academy" you repeated Death's lecture to calm down your nerves. "So though I'd personally prefer it, you don't necessarily need to share a bond with him in order to work together."
Nonetheless, you should at least introduce yourself if not getting to know him. It's the least you can do, right?
What kept you from doing so however was the image you had already painted of him in your head.
After all, even though he is basically able to wield any weapon instantly, Stein has been without partner for many years now - and for a reason at that.
As irritating as that douchebag Spirit could be, he had no reason to lie about his past with your soon-to-be partner...
...and the stores he had to offer sure were hard to stomach. Same goes for all the other teachers you desperately asked for advice.
They all had a very solidified opinion about the professor: Basically, while they acknowledged his incredible talent, they simultaneously feared his huge potential for evil.
"That man has no love in him" Naigus words had become a mental echo those past days, just as she hoped when she had hammered that warning into your head. "Be careful - one day he'll definetly succumb to madness."
What exactly was Death expecting of you? Observe him and interfere if necessary? But then he wouldn't have given you the option to ignore Stein for as long as you didn't have to fight.
There had to be a superior motive to this insane forced partnership! And from the way it sounds, becoming the moral support of a narcissistic maniac didn't really sound like a job you'd willingly take.
Not that you had a say in that matter, or any other option at all. Overthinking it would only torture yourself...
...it was better to just wait and see.
"Good morning" you cheered as you entered the medical ward, reminding yourself that there's other things to take care of which need your attention. "Sorry to interrupt, but...shit."
That last word accidentally slipped out loud when you saw not Dr. Medusa, but Stein of all people occupying the computer of the examination room.
"Mhh? Oh." Judging from the tone of his voice, the man was just as pleased to meet as you were - though you weren't sure if it was because of you or just his renowned misanthropy in general.
Maybe it was just your own nerves, but the air suddenly felt too thick to breathe properly. You clearly felt his eyes scanning you behind those glasses that would censor his intensions.
After a while of strained silence, the doc seemed to have enough of you disrupting his work. "Come on in, I won't bite."
It was embarassing, pityful, stupid that you still won't move - and yet your body just didn't listen to your command, being frozen still in the doorframe.
You had no clue whether it was repulsion or sheer fear, but whatever it was you needed to pull it together.
There was no reason to become so flustered by a man you knew from probably way too exaggerated tales only - you were a Death Scythe, damnnit!
A kick of his against the table brought you down to earth again, making you flinch. The momentum it created was enough for his rolling chair to move in your direction, to closer examine the wound on your wrist that had already bled through it's makeshift bandage.
"That's not good" he stated matter-of-factly, a neutral expression decorating his face. "Want me to take a look?"
"...why not" you spoke between gritted teeth, trying to avoid his gaze. "Only if I'm not bothering you, that is."
"Don't worry, that's also part of my job here" Stein shrugged if off, taking one last pull on his cigarette before throwing it away as you hesistantly took place on one of the cots.
"Actually, I've wondered when you'd finally come here." That statement shouldn't let your blood run cold, yet it did. "Didn't think you'd go this far just to have an excuse to meet me, though. A simple 'hello' would've sufficed."
"Not funny" you cut him off harshly, but at the same time couldn't help but laugh as Stein fell over with his stool, facepalming the floor. He didn't seem like the clumsy type at all, so maybe he did it on purpose to help you relax?
Anyway, you concluded this man didn't mean any harm - at least not currently. And in case he tried something funny, you were still in the academy, basically surrounded by three-star-meisters that could come to your aid at any time.
"Looks nasty" he said quite unempathetic, roughly moving your injured arm to proper assess the damage. "But I've seen worse. Can you move your fingers for me?"
"As I expected" the doctor explained as he saw you fail to close your fist, watching in sadistic awe at the way your wound was twitching painfully. "One of the main tendons of your carpus is severed, along with some muscles and blood vessles."
No matter what medical terms he was throwing at you all professional, the fact that he was not even trying to hide his obvious joy for the injury of others like that was certainly unsettling...
...however, if he excels at his craft like everyone says, you'd try and stay calm.
"Nothing I can't fix. There won't be any long-term damage."
"That's good, I guess?" you chuckled awkwardly, still feeling a little unsafe as Stein slipped into sterile gloves and poured disinfectant on the cut.
"So, how did it happen?" That question sure caught you off guard, for it did not fit his profile at all. Someone this self-centered couldn't possibly care about such inferior details, but whatever...anything to distract yourself from the pain. "Stupid accident. One of my students doesn't know how to control their strenght yet. I hope they don't blame themselves..."
"Huh, is that so?" His tone was eccentric and laced with amusement, a predatory glint sparkling in his otherwise cold, dampened green eyes. "If you like to volunteer as a test subject for others, I should invite you over to my laboratory some time."
"I have no clue if that counts as harassment or threat, or both" you spat angrily, that throbbing pain in your wrist being the only thing keeping you from slapping that douche right now. "But you should read the fucking room. Right now, I am your patient. So act accordingly."
"Yeah, yeah" he dismissed your scold with that shiteating grin, happy to already know what buttons to press with you. "But outside this room you're my new partner, am I wrong? Can't be all that bad to get a little familiar with each other."
Sadly, you had no sassy remark to return to this. It was inevitable that you'd have to get along with each other eventually, so you should use this opportunity to your advantage.
While the disinfectant would do it's deed and eventually dry off, Stein used those few seconds to assess the soul of the person in front of him.
Not that he ever gave a crap about soulmates - and honestly, he doubted to have one himself. A person meant to be with him either has to be just as deranged as he was, or they'd deserve all of his pity...
...what was more interesting though were the standarts Death had used to pick out a weapon for Stein, and why he chose you of all people as a fitting candidate to bear with him.
Ah, he sees.
A kind and amicable soul like yours was the most resistant to corruption, opposite to his own. He had felt that calming aura of yours as soon as you first stepped foot into the room, how your soulwaves silenced the madness lingering inside of him.
Good choice one could very well live with. If it came to him, he'd also choose you as an ideal partner.
What involuntarily caught his attention however were the messy-written letters 'F.S.' - almost as if carved into your soul. They were glowing in a menacing crimson red, standing out from your otherwise bright soul. A reliable soul type, linked to a person with raw power, passion and great urge for self-expression...
...yet also defiance, danger and pain.
"Hey!" Noticing his stare, you hugged yourself even if your arms in front of your chest did nothing to hide what's behind. "Stop staring into my soul! That's impolite!"
"Sorry" he halfheartedly apologized, offering you a glass of water and a painkiller to go with it. "It's not poisoned" he added, almost as if insulted by your wary expression.
"The painkiller won't suffice, though. I probably have to anesthesize you, otherwise stitching it would hurt too much-"
"Nope! You just wanna dissect me, don't you?!" you blurted out without thinking first, and immediately felt guilt wash over you when you saw Stein's puzzled expression.
There was no use in asking questions he already knew the answer for. Spirit probably told you what things he was capable of doing if you're defensless in his presence, so it was no wonder you wouldn't trust him.
"Honestly, I didn't plan to ruin that perfect skin of yours today, or any day, but whatever." Ouch, now you felt like an asshole for accusing him just like that. You've met your partner for the first time today, and were already fucking up that badly... "That sounded nasty, you pervert. I-I mean, can't you just numb out my arm or something?"
"It was meant as a compliment, but that's none of my fortes." It wasn't as if he particulary enjoyed the suffering of others - this was just something that went together with the satisfaction of stilling his bizarre interests. "Do you think you can endure the sight? Then hold still."
"Wai-" Before you could even object, you felt Stein's palm on your arm, gentle sparks of electricity spreading through your nerves.
You felt him with every fibre of your being as his soulwaves wandered within your body: They were oddly stoic and unwavering, nothing like you imagined an unstable sociopath's core to be like.
But maybe that's what one's soul is like if they're devoid of any emotion...
...and still, it made you feel content in a weird, inexplicable way.
"Wha-what was that for?"
"Just see" he mumbled and just like that, all of the severed ends of your wrist were connected through glowing threads. "Like this, everything that belongs together stays close while I stitch them with actual sutures. It's easier this way."
"You can make this out of your soul wavelenghts?!" A sole nod was his answer, deeply concentrated as he began to work. "That's just- wow."
"Seriously?" the doc quirked his brow as the greatest vessle had been conjoined again, effectively stopping the bleeding. "Yeah, it's amazing! How does that even work?"
"You actually want me to explain it to you?" Stein sounded unbelieving, doubting whether you were mocking him. "That's not what I usually hear."
"What else do people tell you, then?"
"Shut up."
Now it was your turn to break out into mischievous laughter, even while trying to not move around too much. "That's hilarious, even better medicine than the pills!"
You wiped a tear of joy out of your face, along with several others you had shed due to the pain. "Well, you're kind of an asshole. So no wonder they don't want to give you the satisfaction."
"I have every right to boast, don't you think? After all, I'm a doctor, just-"
"Unlicensed?"
"Better" he harshly corrected yourself, and you could've sworn to hear slight annoyance in his tone.
Seems like he's not the only one able to annoy the hell out of the other...
"By the way" Stein wouldn't look up from the wound, rather tinkering on getting a perfect end result. "What do you really think about being my partner? We're alone in here, so we can talk freely."
"I- uh..." he sure was good at randomly catching you by surprise, that much was sure. "If Death thinks it's needed, then I have nothing to say."
"Really? How boring."
Albeit it may be the truth in some way, this comment hurt your pride nonetheless. "Oh, and what about you? Sitting here in the academy, helping out whenever someone calls you."
"I'm a pretty opportunistic person" he retorted absentmindedly, a truly indifferent tone in his voice. "And being here is entertaining."
That didn't really answer your question, but you had a feeling that prying would be fruitless as well...
"Trying to see my soul, huh?" You were peering quite obvious, squinted eyes widening at being caught. "Wait, I need to step aside a little...you're standing inside of it."
Oh, you just knew he enjoyed himself way too much right now...
...and still, you couldn't keep your mouth from staying agape, shocked by such an intensely powerful human soul.
That man sure was a monster - in more way than one.
The letters imprinted on his soul reminded you of your own handwriting, even being the same as your first- and lastname. Not that it'd matter, though - seriously, how many people in the world had the same initials as you?
Each letter shimmered in a pretty lime green - a healer's soul, known to be calming to other agitated souls. People with that kind of souls were known for their selfless characters, mainly being associated with love, balance and growth.
How unfitting for someone like him, you thought...
...but on the other hand, not all that absurd to have a Soulmate that's the complete opposite of him, able to put his mind at ease.
"Di-idn't we just talk about how no one wants to see you bragging?" you stuttered, trying to keep it together at such an intimidating wavelenght. "Please, continue. I wanna go home already."
"Only if I'm allowed to join you." The tall man winked as he bowed down in front of you again, eagerly giving the wound dressing it's final touch. "For training purposes, of course."
"The only reason I leave that uncommented is that I owe you one, do you hear me?"
"If you want to file for sexual harassment, promise to go after Spirit first."
Just a few minutes and several sassy verbal exchanges later, Stein was done. He clicked his tongue, a bloodied hand turning the massive screw that was quite literally loose in his head. Not very hygienic - but hey, you're even less of a doctor than he was, so who were you to judge?
"Here, good as new."
You took a quick look at his handiwork, pleased that you were able to move all of your fingers smoothly again, without even so much as a dull pain remaining. "If you let it heal well, it won't even leave a scar. Come every second day for a new bandage."
"Thank you so much, Stein!" you exclaimed happily, taking both of his hands out of a whim. "And- I think I need to apologize."
"What for?" Hell, that man either really doesn't care or is to dull for his own good. You rubbed the back of your neck, shyly admitting "I had a lot of prejudices which clouded my judgement. That wasn't fair towards you."
"You'll never know, maybe I'm just being nice to lure you in." Although his words could still made you shudder, after today he didn't seem all that menacing to you anymore.
"Sure thing, tough guy." Feeling bold, you poked his shoulder, just to gently stroke his forearm as you went past him. "Next time, we'll meet at better preconditions, and then you teach me the technique with the soul strings. Deal?"
"Alright. If you insist, how could I possibly decline my new partner's wish?"

Do you think it’s possible both the Black and Potter families were Desi? The Desi and MENA Black family posts, Desi Potter family posts, and East Asian Black family posts have been living in my head rent free for a long time, and after reading some of your own posts (and the one you linked to), I’m wondering what geographic regions, ethnicities, or cultures best suit the Potters? Especially in the context of MENA or Desi House of Black, and MENA or Desi Sirius and Regulus, existing in the same canon/timeline/world/whatever. I guess I just really want to pick your brain, if you’re up for the conversation. Which. If you don’t want to discuss it, it’s totally fine! I would just rather ask someone who knows what they’re talking about than me just make a bunch of dumbass assumptions or read Wikipedia with 0 actual cultural context. In particular because the Potters and Blacks have such different stances on things like marrying Muggles or Muggleborns (or, hell, halfbloods) or even just how they interact with them in general. Based on some of the Potter history, they’ve always been more…lenient, I suppose, about mixing and social interactions, but based on your post some Desi communities would be very strict like the Black family. Are there the same sort of polarizing stances concerning caste and class? I’m just asking because the way Bellatrix in particular acts was compared in three separate posts to parts of overarching shared MENA and Desi cultural traits. I know not all families are exactly the same, but I wasn’t sure if there were such extreme disparities between families from similar backgrounds within Desi and MENA spaces, or how that applies to the Potters (or makes it more or less likely they’re Desi) in your opinion. I’m really sorry to bother you about this. Feel free to ignore it if it’s too much. If you have the time and energy, though, I would appreciate any insight you have to offer. (I’m also sorry if this is worded poorly). I don’t mean anything offensive by asking. I just don’t know how to find out without just…asking? I don’t want to put any pressure on you, so only answer if you’re comfortable. It’s just, I’m African American Diaspora so I can’t really claim any cultural competence, to know what it feels like to actually be Desi or MENA. If I’m honest, I’ve pictured James as black before and don’t know what it means or feels like to be someone I’m not, so a fresh perspective is refreshing. Plus, I want to write the Potters as non-white (I’ve never seen Harry as white), non-black POC with respect, care, and courtesy, and the best way to do that is to speak to real people. So again, I’m sorry for taking up your time. I hope this finds you well, and thank you for your consideration/for reading, even if you don’t want to, or can’t, reply.
I think it's very possible that both the Black and Potter families were Desi. And they can be any Desi culture you like. The way the Black Family can be maharashtrian, it can also be Bihari, or Uttar Pradeshi or any other regional culture you want to associate them with. Its entirely up to you and your imagination and the amount of information you have about the regional culture you want to tie them to.
For me, the Potters will always be Maharashtrian, mostly because I am a Maharashtrian and that is the culture I am most familiar with. Even in Maharashtra, which is the third largest province in India, the culture differs literally every 30 km or so.
Now about the Blacks' and Potters' differences in stances about blood purism: yes, there is exactly the same polarization in views about the castes and classes. There are many people who still follow the caste system even though it is "abolished" (I put this in double apostrophe because there has been a lot of political unrest in the north east Indian provinces about this over the past couple of months, search up recent events in Manipur if you want to know), and there are just as many people who are liberal and lenient. There are the same extreme disparities as you put it, and they are violent and if anyone tries to deny it they're an ignoramus and you shouldn't pay attention to them. The difference in... opinion, shall we say, of the people of India has been around for decades. There is a saying here "Unity in Diversity", and it is an excellent representation of the fact that India is diverse and it is going to stay diverse, and that is a good thing. There will be differences in culture, food, clothing, social cues, political stances, languages and dialects, religion and belief. These differences are what make India India. The likelihood of the Potters and/or Blacks being Desi is neither increased nor decreased by their stances in socio-politics, or any other habits/traditions that they follow or things that they say.
Re: you point about not knowing how to find out without asking— that is the only way to find out. If you don't ask questions, how will you get the answers? Pop into my inbox either here or on @amrut-ofthegods any time of the day and I'll make sure to answer. It might be a bit late but I will answer, I promise.
I'm so glad there are people actively wanting to learn about cultures and traditions apart from their own in a respectful manner, and anyone and everyone is always welcome to ask questions. Hope this helped!

hello. i saw your tags about dan x matt x neil as a trouple and i am now so curious about your thoughts. because i feel like that part of the ec is like. never touched with a ten foot pole. and im just curious what your opinions them as a ship are! if you have any that is
i am so sorry it took me ages to reply to your great message. i have been sitting with this ask for two reasons: firstly i simply did not find the time to answer it; secondly i had to stop and really sit with that ship to figure out what my opinions even are. and i still came up kind of empty because yeah what do i think about a dan/matt/neil throuple? and the answer is it is something that i would love to see explored and that i think would be a wonderful thing to happen to a neil in a universe in which andrew does not exist. but what exactly would that even look like, right?would neil even meet dan and matt in a universe like that????? like. would neil have been a fox in that universe? and if so, would exy and the foxes (specifically dan & matt) have been enough to make neil stay the moment riko figured out who he was? would he have wanted to stay knowing that he didn’t need to protect dan and matt because they had others and each other to look out for them? the answer to all of these could very easily be a clear yes as it could be a resounding no.
although frankly i think if neil had ended up with anyone other than andrew it would have had been in a throuple or other poly constellation. andrew is able to give neil the stability & safety & bone-deep understanding he craves because that’s just who he is as a person: an unmoving object for neil to lean on and draw strength from; someone who sees him in his entirety and doesn’t shy away the darkest parts he finds because these parts are a familiar reflection. of course dan & matt are strong people as well—they went through a lot and can sympathise with neil, but only to a certain degree. they’d need their combined strength to hold neil up in the moments he’d really need it the most. they are a little to removed from that sort of darkness to offer the kind of unquestioning & all-encompassing understanding & loyalty that andrew can offer. and of course over the years he’d spend with them and learn from them, neil would definitely change and grow into the warm and casual kind of affection dan & matt offer and they, in turn, would get better at supporting him. but i think, compared with the level of intimacy that neil and andrew share, it would take much more time for dan, matt, and neil to find their way to each other in that way. and neil would have that time without andrew around. their friendship would have the opportunity to evolve into romance & probably even a much more conventional romantic relationship than what we get with andreil. and i’d also love that for neil—for all three of them really!! because i think neil would flourish with them too ((btw if it wasn’t clear already none of this is meant to make or imply any moral judgment. not saying one relationship dynamic is better/worth more/etc. than the other.))
but with andrew around it’s very much impossible for me to see a version of this story that ends with neil choosing dan & matt over andrew. a lot would have to go down differently. and for that to happen not only the story but the characters would have to be very different from the versions we have, which would also make it a completely different book series. and who knows how we would see the ship dynamics then! and in my opinion if you had andrew dying at any point after tfc neil simply would be too preoccupied with that to have any space in his head for anything sooooooo…. idk idk
basically what i am saying is that the dan/matt/neil dynamic appeals to me A Lot in theory but it is not something i can see happening in the story we got with the characters we got, if that makes sense????? that’s barely an opinion but it sure is a thought and i don’t think i can do much better than that i am so sorry 😭
