Hey, I'm not sure if you talked about this but do you think Annabeth would take Percy's last name? I have seen plenty of people in the fandom believe she won't (for obvious reasons) but I actually believed she would. The reason is that her experience as a Chase was filled with a lot of ugly memories about her father and stepmother. As a contrast to when she starts dating Percy, the Jacksons not only support her with open arms but they treat her as their own daughter.

Fredrick and Mrs. Chase neglected her for years, let her get attacked by spiders, and resented her for the monster attacks (as if that was her fault). They made her feel so unwanted, she would rather run away and live in danger then go back to them. Annabeth's abandonment issues start with her family's treatment of her. Even if they reconciled in later years, it would never be the same. The damage was already done, it was irreparable. Family dinners with the Chases would probably be awkward and formal, and somewhere in the back of her mind, Annabeth might still feel she does not belong.

However, her experience with the Jacksons is the complete opposite. Percy was the first person in a long time who made her feel loved and didn't leave her, even at the depth of Tartarus. Annabeth, who never had a proper mother figure, because Athena didn't want her and Mrs. Chase saw her as a burden, and was immediately adopted and adored by Sally Jackson. We in COTG how close she is with them. She discusses Shakespeare with Paul. She happily helps Sally around the house. When Sally announces she's pregnant, Annabeth was invited and present because she's family too. Percy even jests in the narration sometimes he thinks Annabeth would agree to marry him just to get Sally as her mother in law. Annabeth's interaction with Sally and Paul were so wholesome and sweet, and she's just so happy around them (+ Percy). And even if we don't see it, I'm sure she would bond with Estelle the same way and become her older sister figure.

My point is the Jacksons become the family to her which her own family failed to give her. Sally Jackson and Paul Blofis' infinite support combined with Percy's love for her makes up for everything she went through because of Fredrick and Mrs. Chase.

And THIS is exactly why I believe she'd take Jackson as her surname.

Even if her relationship with her father got better afterwards but that could never make up for how much he failed her when she needed him the most. And then there's the Jacksons, where all her memories of them are positive, wholesome and filled with love.

The Chases failed her, the Jacksons didn't.

i have talked about this before! i even made a poll lol. basically i go back and forth because she’s known in the demigod world as annabeth chase and is a legend, so she might believe that she brought pride to the name and wants to keep it. but on the other, i agree 1000% with everything you said and that is the reason why i’ve always leaned towards her wanting to take jackson. the jacksons are her real family and she wants to properly become one. i suppose she could hyphenate, that’s what the majority of poll voters said.

but honestly i think she would want to take jackson. even though the prideful and female empowered part of her might tell her to keep her name, i think her heart wants to take percy’s name. deep down she so badly wants to be a jackson

Desperately want Percy to accidentally let it slip that Sadie reminds him of what his and Annabeth’s daughter would be like, and Sadie teasingly calling Annabeth and Percy “mom” and “dad”.

Why Annabeth would change her last name when she marries Percy🥰 even though she is a girl boss that we all know and love. Relying on another human being at times does not mean you're not an independent slaying boss.

1. Yes, I do know that Annabeth is a very independent woman and struggles with permanent things. That being said, let’s look at the away Frederick CHASE has treated Annabeth. He emotionally abused her and neglected her so bad, at such a young age, that she didn’t only wish to run away when she was seven, she DID run away. I know when we were all kids we said we were gonna run away at some point, but who knows for how long Annabeth wanted to, until she COULD when she was seven. No kid, no matter the age, should every want to run away so bad that they actually do. Then when she was twelve she still didn’t WANT to take Percy’s advice to go back home, even after her dad made attempts to reach out to her. That’s how bad her trauma from him alone is. In my opinion, that’s no way to carry on your dad’s last name🤷‍♀️ He doesn’t deserve it. The mortal twins can have it, not the demigod Annabeth😉 I wouldn’t want to be connected to someone that emotionally destroyed me at a young age for the rest of my life.

2. The Jackson family, was a better family to her than the Chase family ever was. Let’s be real. We don’t have to headcannon that Sally loved Annabeth just as much as Percy. We know that’s true. When Percy was missing, Annabeth went over to comfort and share memories of Percy with her. If that wasn’t a bonding experience (along with the Titan’s Curse car ride), I don’t want is. Maybe it’s not the best bonding situation, but they became close none the less. Sally would also be 100% willing to take Annabeth in. At the wedding or any family bonding event, Sally would at first be kind to Frederick, until later when the family has to bond too much that Sally straight up roasts and picks at him with her momma bear instincts every chance she gets. Estelle would grow up in a place where Annabeth was a sister or someone who she always saw. Estelle’s monkey circle has Annabeth in it. And I don’t mean when a sibling gets a significant other kind of like/dislike, I mean sister/parental figure. Annabeth is a constant person in her life with how much she’s mentioned, loved, and around.

3. This is going to sound dumb but because she loves Percy. I know you don’t need to take on someone’s last name because you love them, but it really symbolizes it. Since Annabeth basically lets her little to no relationship with her dad fade away, she likes the idea of taking on the Jackson last name. Why wouldn’t she any way? She loves Percy with all of her heart, her loves his family like it’s her own, and her dad treated her like crap. She deserves to get the last name of the man she loves. Like I mentioned before, I know that Annabeth is a go getter, and a girl who doesn’t need a man, but nearly everyone, and I mean everyone, has tried their name with their crush’s last name. Whether it was as a joke or not, you’ve done it. I’m sure Annabeth is the same. I’m sure she likes the sound of it😉 But yeah, isn’t her love for Percy a good enough reason to change her last name, even if she is a girl boss?

I just realized that the reason I like Percabeth so much is because it’s kind of realistic, simple. There are no grand speeches, love confessions, cheesy lines or anything like that, which we’ve got in almost any other fantasy books with romance. It’s just two people in love, and they don’t need to put it into words because laughing together, caring for each other is enough for them

i can’t decide because on one hand, she is annabeth chase. that’s who she is. she’s become legendary under that name. but on the other, she’s not super proud of the chase part of her, but she absolutely adores the jacksons. she loves and respects their family so much and we literally see her get emotional over sally’s motherly love for her (cotg). so i can also see her wanting to be a full jackson - to be “the jacksons” - so badly. like i feel like the strong independent woman part of her would encourage her to keep chase, but her heart, the part of her that lacked love and affection growing up, would be so healed by becoming a jackson, the name of her family who loves her. i don’t know! maybe she’ll hyphenate? thats what sally did i guess. i don’t knowww 😩

Hot Take- it doesn’t matter if Annabeth is blonde and white or book accurate. it matters if she looks SMART because THAT is the essence of her character. Shes the daughter of ATHENA for Gods sake. The only thing that matters is that she looks smart and sassy. THATS IT

Only dissappointing thing? That she’s going to be shorter than Percy. I hope they give her heels because I LIVE for tall Annabeth
