In price, quality, and spiritually, with a tire iron
Here are some crappy Shein jeans and their prices.
Here are my newest visibly mended jeans
Here’s what they cost to make
LL Bean flannel lined jeans: $3.00, half off at goodwill (I know, lucky find)
Denim Patches: $0.00 taken from a much loved and mended pair of jeans that finally gave up the ghost after many years of loyal service.
Flannel patch to mend a hole in the lining: $0.00 from a lot of free scrap fabric my mom found for me in a buy nothing group.
Sewing supplies: $0.00 inherited/stolen from various female family members
Total: $3.00
Beating shein at:
Cheapness
Quality
Appearance (in my opinion)
Probably comfort
Not doing slavery :)
There’s a narrative that sustainable or ethical fashion is more expensive, and often this is true. But there are affordable ways to have a cool sustainable wardrobe.
To leave you: here are some process shots of how the mending was done, in case it helps someone else.
i feel like the reason mullets are hated is because they're an androgynous hairstyle... but it's not a neutrally androgynous style, the kind of androgyny that's glamorized by some.
it's a mix and match androgyny. the front is seen as masculine, and the back is seen as feminine; the silhouette cant be shoved into one box. people really don't like when people make gender clash. they just want you to conform. and if you wont do that, they at least want you to be as unassuming as possible by simplifying your femininity (but not to the point that you're really masculine).
mix-and-match androgyny - mullets included - doesnt give a fuck about being "too feminine" or "too masculine." it'll mix even the most traditionally gendered traits together, and a lot of people's reaction to that is just disgust.
The Runway 🦇 as I’ve gotten older I’ve realized how much I connect fashion with my ability to express myself through mixing and matching outfits, accessories and feeling beautiful. Yeah, I’m a dude and I feel fucking beautiful. Whether it’s getting dolled up to hit up a batcave and dance in a foggy venue to darkwave, or going to a cemetery to relax I love to put effort into creating outfits that show who the real me is. A ghoul. A bat. A darkling. Some child of the night with morose black lips and darkened eyes. Studs and spikes and everything nice. Southern gothic western chic. Post-punk raver / Deathrock mystique. I love to shop in alternative shops for boots, hats, accessories and supporting friends of mine who make amazing spooky jewelry. Lots of punk and goth flea markets, or a family owned boutique in Mexico City… always ways to dress my corpse up looking like myself again.
