Homestuck Beyond Canon Thoughts
Since I'm in a unique position, for myself at least, to for the first time be really in the trenches alongside everybody else as something like this comes out, and I find myself surprisingly really enjoying it despite the forewarnings I received from my fellow Stuckies as I dipped my toes into the behemoth that is Homestuck for the first time a couple years ago, I figure it's a good idea for my to revive this blog a bit more and actually talk about a piece of media I am consuming for once. And not just consuming, digesting.
My non-spoilery thoughts first:
I actually enjoy the Epilogues and Beyond Canon. They did some things I disliked, but Homestuck proper had the whole Dancestors Game segment that lasted 4000000 hours so no work is without flaws.
I feel like the biggest, most obvious flaws, are explainable within the narrative itself as the consequences of two characters' actions. If you've read it, you know which two. The other issues are pretty neatly cleaned up and explained in ways that I find satisfying enough to resolve my quibbles within the new team's handling of Beyond Canon.
For this next bit: I say this not to EXCUSE the worst of a specific writers' choices, but to give a REASON that makes sense in universe, and thus make it more digestible. Paired with the work the new team did to smooth the wrinkles out, like I said above, it makes it easier to accept for me.
The biggest thing I will state, while still not being spoilery yet, for those on the fence about picking up the Epilogues and Beyond Canon: Remember that this continuity's Jade's story is literally: Grew up alone on an Island for 13 years. Lived for like 5 days max in the Medium, hanging out with Dave a little before killing him, then being stuck in the Yellow Mile ALONE for three years, before being thrown into the final battle. She has zero experience with people and no social skills. That is all.
It should be obvious, but the following containes spoilers for the following:
Homestuck in its entirety
Homestuck Epilogues
Homestuck 2 / Beyond Canon as it is now known, up to Page 601 / the 'March 15th 2024 Update'
So, Analysis One: Alt!Calliope you can't mate with Ult!Dirk
I haven't engaged much with the wider community thus far, something I hope to rectify, but I highly doubt this observation has flown under the radar for everybody else.
Alt!Calliope or 'Al' is projecting a lot of Cherub biology and romance onto Ult!Dirk and it's going horribly, horribly wrong.
For a refresher for people, because gods know this story is too big for anyone but the obsessed to keep track of anymore, Cherub romance is exclusively Black, or Hate based. Unlike in Trolls however, this romance seems to be exclusively toxic, with no room for the tamer 'healthy Kismesitude' such as John and Terezi's to exist. When a 'Guardian' Cherub finds the path of destruction from a 'Conquer' Cherub, the Guardian will begin a relentless Retribution and Vengeance in the name of Justice hunt. As they find more and more of the destruction, their feelings begin to grow into a rivalry, and then a full blown toxic Kismesis crush, until they find the Conquer and fight them. Whoever loses the fight then ears the offspring of the pairing and their territories are ceded to the victor.
The issue now arises in the fact that I think Alt!Calliope is subconsciously viewing the conflict with Ult!Dirk in the same way. She's heavily implied as much on multiple occasions, deeming him a monster worse than even her brother. The origin of the biological/romantic drive for a Cherub to hunt down their opposite is to fill the void left when their opposite sibling half is destroyed in Predomination. So that comparison alone is a RED FLAG that she's doing this.
If you consider Alt!Calliope to be, functionally, the strongest entity in Homestuck aside from Ult!Dirk, Fan Writers, and the actual Authors of Beyond Canon, it makes sense that she's targeting an entity on a similar power scale to her. It's natural for Cherubs.
Her pursuit of Ult!Dirk has also been frames similarly to the Cherub mating hunt a few times by the story as well. She's pursuing him across the universe to end the evil harm he inflicts on all under his domain, the Narrative itself, a domain she seeks to usurp and claim as her own territory. Witnessing the signs of his destruction, the people he's left behind, the changes to the narrative he's caused, and the new universe he's trying to make by starting The Game.
It's pretty much overt at this point that she's seeing this conflict this way. What I am getting at, long-windedly, is that we should all expect 2 things in the final confrontation:
Firstly, Alt!Calliope is going to turn into the giant mating snake and have a Kaiju fight with Ult!Dirk. I just. I feel it.
Secondly, someone, probably Ult!Dirk, is going to make a 'The Baby is You' MPreg joke about the consequences if Ult!Dirk loses. It's going to happen. I HIGHLY doubt they go down that route of her TRYING to actually mate with him, that would be getting into some uh. QUESTIONABLE territory that I doubt they touch at all. But someone, either Ult!Dirk or maybe even Ult!Dave, is gonna make a reference at least. Guaranteed.
That's all I wanted to get to. Even if it's been noticed by others, I like documenting my train of thought as I go through stuff so I can look back in the future and see how wrong, or right, I was in the end.
They already made a reference to the 'Convention Halls' in the last Update. So I do not put another 'The Baby is You' meme coming as an impossibility.

So we went to see the somewhat controversial remake of the Little Mermaid this week. Now surprisingly there wasn't much in the way of collectables for this no cups or buckets they had one lil pushy thing which is pictured below. I didn't get one of course being I didn't want one.
So we went to see this I personally didn't want to form an opinion on it until I seen the actual movie Now I'm a huge fan of the original movie it came out when I was a kid and I remember going to see it and I remember watching the animated series also on Saturday mornings. I had the movie on VHS as a kid and now I have it on Blu-ray and I do have some Little Mermaid merch around the house So I was a little interested in seeing this being I had enjoyed other previous live-action version like The Jungle Book, Lion King and Aladdin, ect.
now did I love it, No. Did I hate it, No.
I would say it was pretty good and I would say it was better then I thought it would be especially better then the internet wants you to think it is.
Now there is some problems with it which I will get into and some of the good things. Now of course they did change some things in the movie of course in regards to story being I think its more about there are certain things you can easily do in animation that you can't do in Live-Action and some scenes were removed and replaced with others. I would honestly say that this follows the original animated movie about 85-90% alot of it will look and sound very familiar.
There is alot of scenes that are peppered in there that are different, but I would say from the start until Ariel gets her legs and arrives on land it is very similar to the original movie They changed a few things around there where she is at the castle and spending time with Eric its still recognizable just slightly different at parts then from the "Kiss the Girl" sequence until the end its very similar to the original again. I would say it is somewhat faithful to the original movie you can kinda tell what the new bits are when you watch it.
Now one thing this movie has going for it of course is the visuals and it is very nice visually I would have to say all the underwater scenes are pretty much amazing I think it is pretty much on par with Avatar the way of Water in terms of the underwater sea life and environments it does look all extremely realistic and impressive also the Mermaids/Merpeople effects are amazing as well it is extremely nice. Also Ursula was done amazingly well the testicles and everything were perfect! Now I know alot of people complained about the Live-Action versions of characters like Sebastian and Flounder I had no problems with the Live-Action Sebastian I thought he was really well done and voiced well and everything as for say Flounder I thought the voice work was good on him but at the same time I didn't think he looked like Flounder at all! being in that he is like white with black stripes? but in the original he was Yellow with blue stripes I don't see why they couldn't just color him yellow and give him blue stripes?
Now one thing that that I didn't really like was the voice of Scuttle I don't think Awkwafina was right for that. I don't know why I just feel like it didn't fit. as for the other cast I thought Jonah Hauer-King was great as Eric Art Malik as Grimsby was great and the one that surprised me was Melissa McCarthy I'm not a big fan of Melissa McCarthy I feel in every movie I seen her in it always seems like its just Melissa McCarthy playing Melissa McCarthy like she is just being herself but in this it was completely different she was Ursula she looked the part and she acted the part. She looked just like Ursula and I believe that she was perfectly cast for this role and she played it excellently. While watching it your not thinking about Melissa McCarthy its one 100% Ursula. Now as for the most controversial casting choice Halle Bailey as Ariel I know alot of people are mad about this personally I thought she did a pretty good job but with that said if I were to make a live action Little Mermaid I probably wouldn't cast her as Ariel and that is just my opinion being that everyone would have their own idea of how the character should or shouldn't be but other then that I thought everyone did do a pretty amazing job
as for the music its pretty much all in there! I thought their renditions of the classic songs were great "Part of Your World" "Under the Sea" "Kiss the Girl" and "Poor Unfortunate Souls" were all beautifully done. I loved all that and the audience that we seen it with was totally into the musical moment when they got to them. and of course there was a few new ones too but I didn't think alot of them where needed like the Song that Eric sings was kinda unnecessary and pretty much just a time filler I thought. and the near the end called Scuttlebutt its alright but again I feel that it was kinda unnecessary and it was basically meant to be pretty much background noise for the scene. but other then that everything else was really well done.
so personally I would say it is a good adaptation of the Animated movie they did follow the animated one somewhat closely with not too many changes but like I said it was pretty good its not the best and of course not the worse. I would just recommend if you are curious and want to see it then go see it and make up your own mind and if you don't want to then just don't go see it thats it. Also the only collectable they seemed to have was these lil plush Ariel dolls.

How I rate stuff (because, why not?)
I enjoy fiction a lot. While most of the time I don't strictly put things in categories (also, my tastes and opinions might change over time), I thought it would be fun to make a post about how I rate different series and works of fiction that I like – or don't like.
So here's a couple of examples, on the scale of 0-10:
(Remember this is based on my enjoyment, not objective criticism! Beside I'm a pretty lax critic, I truly start to dislike things only like, 3 and below. So have mercy on me! I'm just being honest)
10/10 - I have very few complaints, nothing more than nitpicks. Otherwise I enjoy everything about it. (Example: Avatar the Last Airbender - love everyhing about it)
9/10 - I have one major issue or a couple minor ones, but apart from that it's similar: I love it (My little Pony: Friendship is Magic - surprisingly, I love most of it)
8/10 - I have some issues which I consider visible, but still liked it a lot (Star Wars series - not all of it, but the best of it)
7/10 - I have a significant amount of issues, but still mostly liked it (Harry Potter series - my favorite bashing series, so many plot holes to tear through, it's hilarious)
6/10 - liked it, but probably wasn't a fan (Pokemon franchise - my childhood, but not nearly on the top of my list)
5/10 - I didn't dislike it, but I wasn't invested either (Star vs Forces of Evil - I liked the Eclipsa plotline at first but otherwise, ehh)
4/10 - something bugged me about this, so I dropped it (Attack on Titan - I'm like, nope, canibalism is a big no no for me, sorry)
3/10 - something bugged me and probably made me mad, definitely dropped it (the Twilight saga - the romance is GROSS, but at least it's so bad it's funny)
2/19 - I really don't like this and I have strong feelings about it! (Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian the movie - it's personal, they completely ruined one of my favorite books ever, why did they make Caspian and Peter into emo jerks??)
1/10 - oh I HATE this (that one Robinson Crusoe movie adaptation I saw once in class when I was 11, where they turned the MC racist for drama: I am still full of rage because that book was pretty cool, so like, whyyyy)
0/10 - I am in denial of its existence and happier that way. (Last Airbender Live Action Movie. There's no movie in Ba Sing Se.)
Other series I enjoyed:
Fullmetal Alchemist (Manga/Brotherhood): 10/10, very well structured, engaging, funny and 100% satisfying. Never gets old.
My Hero Academia: 10/10, love the world and the characters. Can't wait for the conclusion
The Chronicles of Narnia: 10/10, the first book series that wasn't for school that I ever read by myself. Still my favorite series of all time
Lord of the Rings: 9.5/10, I only love it less than max because it's very long and Narnia is my 10/10 fantasy series. Sorry LOTR, there can only be one favorite, even if I admit that LOTR is factually better quality-wise. I'm subjective, you know?
Danny Phantom: 7/10, it has many problems but the premise is GREAT and it has killer aesthetic. It's kinda unforgettable, even.
Some recenty found series:
Trash of the Count's Family: 10/10, recently found it, fell in love pretty fast. The characters alone are enough for me, but the story is honestly great as well
Solo leveling: 8/10, interesting, fun, simple in enjoyment. Not too long either. My biggest pitpick would be that the story was a bit simple, but it's exactly what it's supposed to be.
Suicide Hunter: 7/10, interesting, very funny at places, still too brutal for me (sooo much suicide and mindbreaking stuff... but I get why people like it).
Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint: 5/10, don't kill me for this, I have reasons! It is interesting, and I like most of the characters, but I'm just not a fan of the main plot. There's just something unappealing for me about the whole "gladiator premise" (where a superior power creates the scenario where random people are forced to kill each other). Same reason why I never liked the Hunger Games (which I'd probably rate 4/10) and I'll never watch Squid Game.
The S Classes That I raised: 6/10, it is interesting, fun and hilarious in many places, but the supporting cast somehow didn't quite click for me just yet. The rating might change in the future, who knows?

Hi there!
I hope you're doing great. Ehm... May I requests Law for either the romantic or the Angst alphabet? I just can't decide that and would like you to choose from it.
I'm really looking forward to your work. Other than that have a nice day/eve. ♡
Fluff Alphabet - Trafalgar Law
Tumblr media
a/n: hi there!!! thank you for requesting and for your kind words 💓 I chose the fluff alphabet because our man has suffered enough and I couldn’t handle writing out angst for him 🙃 ANWAYSSSS pls enjoy x
Tumblr media Tumblr media
A-Activities (what do they like to do with their s/o? How do they spend their free time with them?)
During the little free time he has, Law loves to spend it with you doing anything lowkey. He’s usually pretty exhausted from everything going on, so taking some time to wind down and read a good book with you tucked him next to him reading you’re a book of your own is his ideal way to spend time with you.
That being said, if you are a person who prefers to do something active, Law won’t say no to that (so long as it’s not Luffy level active).
B-Beauty (what do they admire about their s/o? what do they think is beautiful about them?)
Law admires your way of thinking. You always seem to bring a fresh, unique perspective and now he can’t help but ask for your input on everything. This is also what he finds the most beautiful about you. He’s never been one to care that much about what is on the outside. To Law, it’s what is on the inside that counts (who knew law was so cliché;)). Your mind and the way it works is a wonder to behold and Law counts himself very lucky that he is the one that gets to see you in action the most.
C-Comfort (how would they help their s/o when they feel down/have a panic attack etc.?)
Law takes a very pragmatic approach when it comes to comforting his s/o. He’s a doctor, so its only natural for him to think in this way. He asks you directly what’s wrong and how he could help – it’s the most logical thing to do and the quickest way to ensure you are feeling comforted.
D-Dreams (how do they picture the future with their s/o?)
In the future Law wants to live a simple, quiet life with you. Somewhere secluded and far away from all the noise and chaos of the world. You’ll live in a nice house (nothing too fancy), with a child or two running around acting out their parents’ infamous pirate adventures.
E-Equal (are they the dominant one in the relationship or rather passive?)
He tends to take the more dominant role in the relationship. For the sake of your safety and his sanity, he prefers to be the one to take charge with you following his lead. But, he does still value your input in almost all decisions.
F-Fight (would they be easy to forgive their s/o? How are they fighting?)
Your fights tend to be pretty short lived resulting in forgiveness and apologies from both sides relatively quickly. He really doesn’t like to stay mad at you for too long – he’d much rather have you two on the same page.
Most fights are caused by stress and concerns of health and safety, so Law does a lot of eye rolling and using his title as a ‘doctor’ as justification that he knows what he’s doing so you just need to chill – but like I said these fights are very short lived.
G-Gratitude (how grateful are they in general? Are they aware of what their s/o is doing for them?)
Before he met you, Law’s life was very dull. Yes, he has his fair share of adventures and fun with his crew, but there was something missing from his life. But then you came along, bringing a little more colour into his life. Instead of being exhausted and tense from dealing with everything alone, you forced your way in and pried him open, allowing him to share his burdens. For that, Law is eternally grateful.
H-Honesty (do they have secrets they hide from their s/o? Or do they share everything?)
Initially, Law tried to hide quite a lot. He was very selective about the information he shared with you. It’s not that he didn’t trust you, he just struggled to share things with others – his past has made him very closed off. But, before he knew it you managed to weasel your way in, and soon he found himself confiding in you about everything. The only time he ever keeps a secret is if knowing it will jeopardize your safety.
I-Inspiration (did their s/o change them somehow, or the other way around? Like trying out new things or helped them overcome personal problems?)
I touched on this a little bit before, but you were able to teach Law the relief and comfort that comes with trusting and relying on others. Because of you, he was able to learn that its important to not deal with everything on your own.
J-Jealousy (do they get jealous easily? How do they deal with it?).
It’s not often that Law gets jealous. It’s an ugly emotion, plus he feels no need to be jealous since he trust you with his whole heart. However, if he was to get jealous, he is definitely the quiet jealous type. His fists clench a little tighter, his frown deepens ever so slightly, and he just doesn’t speak. He doesn’t ignore you though, rather he chooses to curt replies until he eventually gets over it or if it’s really bothering him he may bring it up with you.
K-Kisses (are they a good kisser? What was the first kiss like?).
He is a very inexperienced kisser, not having (or wanting) many romantic relationships in his past. Even so, he’s surprisingly not horrible (but not great either) at kissing. Maybe it has something to do with his deep knowledge and understanding of the way the human body works. Unfortunately, during your first kiss he tried to rely a little too much on his ‘knowledge’ rather than melting in to it. It wasn’t a horrible first kiss, it just felt a little stiff. The desire was there, but it was as if he were afraid to give in to the emotions he was feeling and reading your signals. However, after a little communication and guidance he’s now an expert.
L-Love confession (how would they confess to their s/o?)
It was in the heat of the moment after you had done something completely and utterly stupid, that almost cost you your life. He wasn’t intending on doing it right then and there, in fact he actually had a whole plan of how and when he was going to tell you how he felt. But seeing you lying in the infirmary after having to operate on you was more than he could handle and before he knew it the words just slipped out.
M-Marriage (do they want to get married? How do they propose? What would the marriage be like?)
Marriage is indeed something Law wants. You wouldn’t expect it but after you two officially got together, it wasn’t more than a month before Law started thinking about marriage. He knows now isn’t the time for marriage, but it’s definitely in his plans for the next few years or so.
His proposal is going to be low key. The two of you would have to be alone with no other people around – maybe while you two are lying in bed one night, he just pops the question. And as with the proposal, your wedding would also be low key. No big party or ceremony, just you two and the people closest to you (bepo definitely officiates).
N-Nicknames (what do they call their s/o?)
‘Babe’ or your name are his usual choices for when you are around other people. But occasionally when he’s on the verge of falling asleep he’ll let out a yawn followed by a sleepy “babyyyy”.
O-On cloud nine (what are they like when they are in love? Is it obvious for others? How do they express their feelings?)
When Law is in love he tends to keep his cool and collected façade. But on the inside he’s a babbling, nervous mess. He doesn’t do anything particularly out of the ordinary other than making a bit more of an attempt at conversing with you. He loves hearing you talk and rambling on about things you’re passionate about so he does try to find any excuse to talk to you.
P-PDA (are they upfront about their relationship? Do they brag with their s/o in front of others? Or are they rather shy to kiss etc. when others are watching?)
PDA is something Law isn’t the biggest fan of. He’ll stand next to you and be in close proximity while sharing a few glances, but other than that he won’t engage in PDA. Law considers that sort of thing to be private and intimate so he likes to keep it between the two of you. Occasionally, if you are feeling a little extra needy he may give in to a quick hug or forehead kiss.
Q-Quirk (some random ability they have that is beneficial in a relationship?)
It may not come as that much of a surprise but, Law can make one hell of a cup of coffee (actually any hot drink really). His perfect brew definitely comes in handy.
R-Romance (how romantic are they? What would they do to make their s/o happy? Cliché or rather creative?)
Oh boy, he is way more romantic than anyone would ever realize. He loves doing little things for you just to see that sweet smile on your face. It makes his heart swell with happiness.
S-Support (are they helping their s/o achieve their goals do they believe in them?)
Rather than being the consistently positive support, Law provides you with constructive criticism and things that can actively help you achieve your goals. He’s a realist, so doesn’t think only saying “you can do it” or “it’s only a minor setback” is the way to go. He still says those things because they are true – Law honestly believes you can do whatever you set your mind to, however, constructive criticism is needed in addition to this.
The key take away here is: YES. Law believes you can achieve all your hopes and dreams.
T-Thrill (do they need to try out new things to spice out your relationship or do they prefer certain routine?)
Law needs routine, especially in your relationship. You have continued doing the same things in your relationship since you first got together because it works. Why would he want to change what works? It’s safe, it’s familiar, and it’s comfortable.
That being said, he’s not opposed to the idea of spicing things up. If you ever felt like trying something new (or even if he starts to feel bored about something), he would be open to the idea. Who knows, maybe the new thing you try could even become a part of your routine.
U-Understanding (how good do they know their partner? Are they empathetic?)
It’s no surprise that he is very adept at reading people, he’s on to it and has exceptional observation skills. He uses these skills with you as well.
He knows what it’s like to be consumed by emotions (in fact he knows that too well), and while with most, he’s the type to keep his emotions hidden, when it comes to you he shares his emotions to help you realize that he also knows how it feels and that you are not alone.
V-Value (how important is the relationship to them? What is its worth in comparison to other things in their life?).
Your relationship is a top priority in his life. He’s lost everyone he ever cares about (other than his crew) and there is no way he is going to lose you too. The only thing that may potentially rival your relationship is his goal of taking revenge on Doflamingo.
W-Wild card (a random fluff headcanon?)
There’s nothing he loves more than you running your hands through his hair while his head is on your chest or stomach. He automatically leans into your hand every time. He feels the safest in this position.
X-XOXO (Are they very affectionate? Do they love to kiss and cuddle?)
Like I said before, he is affectionate but it’s mainly when the two of you are alone. Those displays of affection are for the two of you and no one else. But, when the two of you are alone he absolutely loves cuddles (especially lying with his head on your lap or chest).
Y- Yearning (how will they cope when they are missing their partner?)
He gets stressed when you’re not around for more than one reason. Firstly, you can’t help to calm him down and force him to take a breather. Secondly, he’s constantly worried about your safety and wellbeing.
Honestly, the only way he copes with it is by stressing (I know it’s not coping at all but I mean that’s Law for you LMAO).
Z-Zeal (are they willing to go to great lengths for the relationship? If so, what kind?)
Law would put his life on the line for your relationship. He doesn’t want to lose someone he cares about – not again. He can’t handle that sort of pain, so if it was required of him, he would gladly give his life.

hey entirely unprompted and apropos of nothing what are YOUR top 10 movies of 2021?
Omg this is so unexpected thank you for asking :) I included as many 2021 films as I could, but I definitely didn't see 10, and some of them I didn't like very much. So this will be films I saw for the first time during 2021 rules. Also, I have a lot of thoughts about movies so forgive the length.
Honorable mention to: Sully, Spider-Man 2 and 3, The Fog, Big Trouble in Little China, Cast Away, and American Animals, which were all excellent but didn't make the cut.
10. Venom: Let There be Carnage (2021, dir. Andy Serkis)
There was no way this coke high of a film wasn't going to be on my list. I feel like there's a tendency nowadays to exaggerate how weird films are in the service of comedic effect, but believe me when I say this film is absolutely bug fucking nuts. It's funny both on purpose and on accident, all the while letting Tom Hardy crank his already loud Eddie Brock performance up to 11. I can only hope that this directorial vision continues in Venom 3: A Very Venom Wedding
9. F9 (2021, dir. Justin Lin)
Appropriately enough for the ninth spot, the ninth entry in the Fast Franchise is an incredible return to form. I was prepared for a dull slog through through samey-looking action scenes with just enough good character scenes to keep me interested, but boy was I thrilled to be proven wrong. Justin Lin's re-entry to the franchise seems to have re-vitalized it, with the most character focused film since at maybe the second one. The surprisingly grounded nature of this film makes the notoriously silly action scenes that much more enjoyable.
8. Inception (2010, dir. Christopher Nolan)
I haven't seen many of Nolan's other films, but what I have seen haven't really struck me that much, which is why I was so surprised to enjoy Inception as much as I did. An engaging action film that's smart enough to flatter it's audience while dumb enough so as not to be off-puttingly esoteric. Highlights include the reliably brilliant Ken Watanabe and the frighteningly intense Marion Cotillard, who may not have even been acting.
7. The Star Wars Prequel Trilogy (1999-2005, dir. George Lucas)
Listen. I'm not PROUD that they're here but what can I say. I marathoned them on a whim one weekend with my beloved @zaricats and now suddenly Anakin Skywalker resides in my brain forever. They're not good by any definition, but they're such a fascinating trainwreck to watch over and over again. They deserve this high a spot if only for the permanent alterations they've made to my personality.
6. In the Mouth of Madness (1994, dir. John Carpenter)
Have you ever wanted to see Sam Neil just foaming at the mouth, going stark raving fucking mad? Are you interested in seeing the scariest sequence with a bicycle at night you'll ever see in your life? Have you ever thought "Man, wouldn't it be fucked up if Stephen King had reality-bending powers?" Then BOY do I have a movie for you!
5. Near Dark (1987, dir. Kathryn Bigelow)
If a movie were custom made to appeal to me, it would probably end up looking something like this. As much as I love the campy glitz and glam of The Lost Boys, Near Dark lets its vampires be unapologetically disgusting. The grit and grime in every scene of this movie charmed me immensely, and the cast of vampires turn in frankly stunning performances all around, but especially Bill Paxton as Severin, who I did dress up as for Halloween.
4. Last Night in Soho (2021, dir. Edgar Wright)
I'm a big Edgar Wright fan, so I had really high expectations for this film, and I can honestly say it did not disappoint. As it's not a comedy, the film's editing is not quite as flashy as some of his other films, but it's still quite stylish and the soundtrack is seamless. Eloise struggling not to lose herself in the big city after living on her own for the first time, as well as her fears about coming to terms with her adult sexuality really spoke to me and left me speechless after I left the theater. Anya Taylor Joy (whomst I will watch in almost anything) turns in one of the best performances of her career here.
3. Little Shop of Horrors (1986, dir. Frank Oz)
But Rachel! You might say, you technically watched this movie for the first time last October! You would be correct, but I would ignore you, because my Little Shop hyperfixation did not start until the end of the summer of this year. Can I explain the delay? No, but let me tell you, every single song on the film soundtrack was in my spotify wrapped. This movie rules so hard. There's nothing I don't like about it. I'll probably watch it at least 5 times in 2022.
2. Inside (2021, dir. Bo Burnham)
The discourse moved at light fucking speed for this movie and became unbearable so quickly, but luckily I'm pretty good at ignoring other people's brain dead takes. What to say about Inside. It made me dry wracking sob on my couch at 2:30 in the afternoon, which is always fun. What Burnham shares of his personal struggles with mental health and being a Creative (tm) on the internet during a pandemic resonated so hard with me that I still haven't been able to muster up the strength to rewatch it.
1. The Thing (1982, dir. John Carpenter)
It’s crazy that I had not seen what is arguably one of the greatest horror films of all time before this year, but Blank Check was doing a Carpenter mini series and I was determined to watch all of his films in order. The thing is simply immaculate- the effects are absolutely crazy and the story of people in isolation ruthlessly turning on each other to figure out who’s infected really resonated with me for some reason. This is also why there's so much Carpenter on this list. I do not watch new films easily.

Part 2 of this ask! It is the Undateables' version of this post.
Enjoy~
~
Diavolo:
MC was, surprisingly enough, attacked outside the Demon Lord's castle.
Diavolo had invited them over to have tea and tell him more about the Human realm and their experiences. The two did this every now and then.
The human was stalked the entire way though and when the minor demon realized where they were headed, they panicked and decided to attack them before they made it through the gates.
Lord Diavolo was in his office, trying to do his paperwork as he waited for them, but was bored. He just happened to look out his window and see his exchange student getting attack outside his home.
The demon was brave, he'd give him that. Sadly, he was also a fool and needed to die.
Diavolo rushed out to MC's aid and just his presence alone was enough to stop the attacker.
MC passed out right as the prince started dismembering the lower demon.
The human later woke up in a guest bed in the castle. All of their previous deep cuts from getting mauled by the lesser demon were gone, as were most of her bruises. However, they also felt exhausted and extremely sore all over.
It took her a minute to realize that the prince was sleeping at the foot of her bed. He sat in a chair and was leaned forward so his arms and head were against the bed.
He... he saved them and now stayed by their side as they slept? Why?
The man suddenly yawned and stretched his arms. He turned his head and noticed the human was awake.
"Ah, I'm glad you're alright." He gave them his usual grin for a moment before letting it fall in favor of a more serious look. "I'm sorry for the actions of my citizen, but he has been taken care of."
"Oh... it's fine." MC mumbled. "But... wasn't I hurt?"
He smiled again. "I had Barbatos heal you up. We didn't have many human-safe options, but we had a potion in stock that boosted your body's ability to heal itself, but it took a lot of energy from you. I'm afraid you've been out for about a day and a half."
Ends up calling Barbatos in for some food for MC and the prince changes the subject in favor of asking questions about their life in the Human realm, the reason they came all this way to begin with.
Despite the attack and being sore, MC still enjoyed her time with Diavolo, as usual
And honestly, they were touched that he seemed to care for them.
Yes, he's the prince and has to make sure his exchange students are safe, but if that was all it was, they wouldn't have woken up to the man at the foot of their bed, seeming as if he had waited awhile for them.
Lord Diavolo was a good man. A good friend.
Barbatos:
The butler was out shopping for some specific ingredients he needed for Lord Diavolo's dinner.
Didn't expect to bump into MC or find them in such a predicament, but didn't hesitate to step to step in.
Without giving any reaction at all, the man walked up behind the attacking demon and snapped his neck.
"Sorry for the intrusion, but I believe you were in the need of assistance." He told the human, reaching out a hand to help them up. "Are you alright?"
"B-Barbatos?" The human's gaze seemed empty. "I can't see anything..."
The demon frowned, now noticing the burn marks around their eyes. Looks like they were hit with the minor demon's poison shot.
"It'll be fine now." He gently wrapped an arm around them and helped the bruised human up before stepping back and simply taking their hand. "I shall take you back to castle to heal you."
And so he did. MC kept a tight hold of the butler's hand, scared of the emptiness and little patches of light that was now left of their sight.
At the castle, Barb guided them to a couch in one of the parlor rooms and dismissed himself to go retrieve the medicine. MC waited patiently, albeit uneasily, and couldn't help but sigh in relief when they heard the door open.
"Please lay your head back and close your eyes."
The human hesitated, but did as they were told.
Suddenly, they felt some kind of paste be wiped over their eye lids. The human gasped and bit their lip.
"Forgive me, I know the cream burns." He explained. "Please just give it a moment--"
The human reached out and, after a few misses, grabbed onto the demon's hand. He raised an eyebrow.
"I see. Very well, squeeze my hand if you need to."
As the paste was absorbed through their eye lids, it detoxified the eyeballs beneath, causing a strange pink steam to come from their face. The human let a few whimpers slip and squeezed the butler's hand till the burning had stopped and the steam had disappeared.
"You may open your eyes now; slowly please."
The human carefully open their eyes, which were now watery and red, but could see the world around them once more.
Barbato handed them a handkerchief.
"Thank you..." The human said softly before wiping their eyes.
"No need for such thanks." He smiled at them before rising. "Now if you'll excuse me, I'll have to update my lord about this incident. Please wait, as I assume he'll want to speak with you and apologize on behalf of his people."
Like you'd expect, Barbatos was calm throughout the entire process. He made taking care of the blinded human seem effortless.
What MC wasn't aware of, however, was how his heart sank when he saw them get attack or how his eyes widen just a bit when he found out they were blinded.
He couldn't allow himself to actually show his concern because he had to keep his professional facade up
However... he was grateful that it all ended well.
Solomon:
The three of them had gone to a party together: Solomon, Asmo, and MC.
The three of them did this occasionally, enough so that the sorcerer knew Asmo didn't keep an eye on MC as well his older brother had stressed that he should.
In order to keep the nights relatively drama-free, the sorcerer silently took up babysitting duty with the other human.
Solomon still drank and talked with the demons around him, but he always made sure he knew where MC was at all times.
At one point, however, the sorcerer realized he hadn't checked up on the other human in a while.
He scans the room the room for them, only to barely catch them stumbling up the stairs with another demon.
Okay, that was enough. He excused himself from the succubus who had started chatting him up and went up the stairs to check on MC.
The demon was trying to drag them into a room while they kicked and tried fighting them.
Solomon snapped his fingers. Suddenly, the demon's ass was on fire. Screaming, the lower demon ran off, likely trying to find a solution to his new predicament.
The sorcerer kneeled down on the floor, where MC had found themselves after being thrown forward by the burning demon.
"Are you alright?"
The human, a bit teary eyed but somewhat calmer than he suspected, nodded. He frowned when he noticed bruises on their arm from the lowly demon's grip.
"I believe this has been enough for one night." He gave them a light smile. "I'll take you home."
Solomon helped his friend up and sent a quick text to Asmo, explaining their current departure, before guiding the other human down the stairs and teleporting them to House of Lamentation.
The sorcerer wasn't a fan of MC joining them at parties anymore, but never tried stopping them. Instead, he kept an even closer eye on them to the point where the other human often complained it was a bit creepy. He'd smile and apologize, but keep his eyes on them anyway.
There will not be a second incident. Not with him there.
Simeon (with Luke):
The two were coming back from shopping for baking ingredients since MC was coming over to Purgatory Hall to bake with Luke.
On their way back, about half a block from their dorm, was when they found the human, being held up by their neck by a lesser demon.
Luke screamed their name as Simeon ran up, transformed into his full angel form and radiating holy light.
The demon, screeching as the light burned him, dropped MC and ran.
The human passed out just in time to see both angels' faces above them.
When they woke up about an hour later, they were laying on the couch in Purgatory Hall, all bruises gone from their body.
"You're okay!" The little angel sprung up from where he sat on the floor while he waited for them to awake.
Hearing his words, Simeon came in from the other room and smiled at the human.
"Thank goodness. You really gave Luke a scare."
"Hey! You were scared too!"
The older angel just gave a small laugh.
"Regardless, it's nice that you are awake now."
The three talked and the angels found out that MC left early to visit them, but was attacked during the walk. It was basically what Simeon had expected.
The older angel had also healed them of their wounds as soon as he carried them inside the dorm, explaining the lack of marks on the human's body.
Since the human was still a bit sore from the attack however, Simeon decided it was best to take a raincheck on the baking; he gave Lucifer a call, updating him about the incident, and ten minutes later, Mammon was at the door, ready to walk MC home.
The incident really worried the two angels; they really started to wonder if MC staying at House of Lamentation was the best thing.
Luke insisted that the two of them could protect MC better than the Brothers.
Simeon didn't really speak his opinion on the matter to the boy, but told him that the human's living arrangements likely wouldn't change, even if the two spoke up about it.
Instead, the older angel kept an eye on MC while they were with him and Luke and when they had to part, he made sure they were leaving with one of the brothers or that they stayed till one came for them.
Honestly, Simeon felt that was all he could do for them to prevent it from happening again.

Joshua kept on looking towards the retreating car till it was out of his sight, he sighed tiredly, why was he feeling so nostalgic and empty?
He shook his head, knowing all too well where his feelings were trying to lead him but he couldn't allow himself to go through them, you were just one of his fans, he wasn't allowed to be committed to anything other than his work.
He made his way towards the hotel room but before he could reach his room he felt someone tap his shoulder. He turned around gulping to see his manager with a not so pleasant look on his face.
"I want to have some talk with you."
"Yes, come in."
He opened his room door inviting his manager hyung with him and made himself comfortable in his bed whereas the manager sat in one of the chairs near it.
"You do realize that there can be numerous disadvantages of your irresponsible shenanigans right? I left you alone because I thought you were responsible enough."
"Im sorry Hyung."
The manager just looked at him knowing him all too well that he won't say anything and just listen to him blabbering till he quit and leave and he had known Joshua since their debut.
"Joshua, I didn't inform PDnim about this."
The confession made Joshua look up to his masher with a complete shock, he had been making up his mind and practicing his sorry speech to face PDnim only for him to realize that they didn't tell him.
"W-what?"
"Joshua, I know you since a long time ago and I know you are responsible enough to never put your group's image in danger and I know how much you've been dying to have a day where you could be you, you had the chance you took it, I'm not angry at you but just a little bit frustrated. I know you but not the fan, I wouldn't mind you running off alone but what if that fan posts something on social media or uses it against you?"
Joshua laughed feeling somewhat relieved that he was surrounded by people who understood him well.
"She didn't even ask me for my autograph let alone a selca together hyung, she even paid for this cap and neck scarf to help me disguise and she didn't take me to any of the crowded places, she just showed me some of the most beautiful places I've been and let me enjoy my peace alone."
The manager gave him a confused look.
"She didn't even ask for your selca? What in the world was she thinking while being with you the entire day?"
"I don't know, maybe her prime goal was to see me happy."
He smiled at the manager who gave him a suspicious look in return.
"You gave her your number or asked her hers?"
"Neither, she doesn't have any physical memory of being alone with me but a mental one aside from these things she bought for me of course."
He chuckled biding his manager goodbye immediately feeling the heaviness of his heart return, he didn't understand why he was missing you so much.
He was about to close the door when a hand stopped it and he looked up to see Seungcheol, Jihoon, Wonwoo and Jeonghan standing in front of his door with a pointed look.
"Come in."
He sighed as others pushed passed him and plopped upon his bed or the chair.
"What was going on inside that head on yours?"
Jeonghan flicked his forehead as soon as he laid down beside him and he winced in pain.
"Joshua, I didn't expect this from you, do you realize how worried the manager hyung was?"
"You were never so spontaneous Hyung."
Joshua sighed as the four just looked at him, wanting to hear a clarification. He laid back down on his back, arms and legs spread widely as he looked up at the ceiling with a faraway look.
"I don't even know what I was doing, I was just talking with her and then she suggested me the idea playfully when I told her I sometimes wish to live as a normal person just for a day and then I just led her on not having a single care, but I really enjoyed it, it was one of the best day of my life."
The four just exchanged a look before Jihoon continued.
"Hyung, she was the same girl you gave the flowers too right? I saw you giving her and then you chose her for the dance competition too and then you win and you got to have a date with her and then you ran away with her for a day, what's all of this?"
"I don't know, I seriously don't know what I am doing, she's just a fan and I would probably never see her but she made me take so many actions which I never thought would take and I surprisingly didn't feel bad I actually liked it."
There was a long pause after he said that, none of the boys said anything as Wonwoo's eyes suddenly widened in realization.
"Hyung…"
Everyone looked at him in anticipation by the look on his face and his dumbstruck smile.
"What?"
"You have a crush on that fan isn't it? You like her, I can see it in your face Hyung, I was the same before I realized I was in love with Mina too and I still have that look even when she's with me."
All of the eyes were now on Joshua but he just looked at Wonwoo with a blank expression not being able to digest the fact, did he really have a crush on a fan that he wasn't going to see anytime in the near future?
"Her name is Y/N right?'
Jeonghan asked as Joshua nodded his head slowly.
"Beware Joshua, I don't trust her, you never know she is doing all of this to get closer to you, she could be a really sly sasaeng fan for all we know."
Joshua looked at Seungcheol, he did have a point but Joshua was sure you weren't someone like that, he wasn't going to argue with his leader for a fan who he wouldn't probably see anyway.
▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️
You reached your apartment and as soon as you did a really excited Miu tackled you in a mind crashing hug. You groan in pain pushing her off you, taking your coat and showing off you made your way towards the couch and sit on it feeling your body ache due to exhaustion.
"How was the date?"
Miu asked, handing you the water bottle which you gladly accepted.
"It was great, much better than I thought, I was nervous about it for a bit but I got the hang of it but I miss him already."
Your voice was low as you leaned sideways on the armrest of the sofa which gave Miu an access to see your face clearly.
"Did you cry?"
She grabbed your face with her hands to make you look up at her, she was worried about you.
"I miss him Miu, why is my heart feeling so heavy?"
You hugged her as you let out another sob.
"I'm just his fan, but why do I feel as if I've lost someone who was so dear to me."
Miu just stroked your hair as you let out your feelings, feeling bad for you. Of course you were going to feel sad about biding him goodbye, she understood because she would have felt the same if she was in your place.
"Everything will get back to normal, wanna have some food with me? I'm hungry."
You nodded your head slowly walking to your bedroom to get fresh as Miu prepared dinner.

My Top 18 Favorite Movies, TV Shows and/or Cartoons of 2018 (in no particular order) Part Dos
10. She-Ra and the Princesses of Power
Tumblr media
Ignore the neckbeards who have nothing better to do, so they complain about reboots of cartoons from the quote on quote "golden age of animation, the 80's". She-Ra and the Princesses of Power is a really great show, that yes, is better than the original 80's show. It's able to create a more fun and engaging story, while also having a lot of memorable and likable characters. It also has a theme that I found very interesting, where the villains aren't born evil, they are just misled in the wrong direction and don't truly know wrong from right. It's quite a bold theme for the show. If there is a kind of big flaw, the animation is a little wonky. Some shots and scenes look great, while others are very easy to see where the animation mistakes are. That said, it's still a great show that takes advantage of all of it's fun and interesting characters, and brings them together in a new show that blows its predecessor out of the water. And yes, LGBT fans. It's very, very gay.
11. Spider-Man Into the Spider verse
Tumblr media
What a comeback story. Who would have thought that the studio that made the whole world of animation cry last year would end up making the best animated film of the year? But anyways, Spider-Man into the Spiderverse is not only able to live up to all the hype it's been getting for the past year, but it also blew our expectations away. First of all, it looks GORGEOUS. It's able to make a visual style that's not only very beautiful and interesting, but it also happens to create a loving tribute to the original medium of comic books. Second, they put just as much effort in the story as they did with the visuals, which is not only a very fun superhero film, but also manages to be a very engaging emotional story as well, with lots of fun, interesting and memorable characters as well. If there is something to say isn't perfect, I did notice at least one plot hole that left me a bit confused, and they kind of blew the wad for putting in a few too many characters, where, while fun and memorable, don't have that much screen time and don't leave as big of an impression as the main characters. But still, it's one of the year's best movies, so go watch it NOW!
12. Flcl Progressive and Alternative
The first anime I ever saw was FLCL. It was insane, had gorgeous animation, memorable characters and I loved every minute of it. Do its sequel series' live up to the original's legacy. Well, let me put it this way. I very much enjoyed both shows, equally too. I thought they were very fun shows, and their themes, while sometimes a little hit-and-miss, still got their points across, the new characters were very fun and memorable, and the action scenes were also animated very well. With all that said, they still don't hold a candle to the original show. But that's okay, because I imagine it'd be very hard to. I still think that both of these new shows were very good, and although not as great as the original FLCL, was still lots of fun, and somewhat worthy successors to one of the greatest animas of all time. I still recommend both, since they still were good in my opinion.
Tumblr media
13. Hilda
Tumblr media
Miss Gravity Falls and Over the Garden Wall? Then have I got the show for you. Hilda is a great show from Netflix that manages to capture the spirits of  both those shows, but also having its own identity and voice. One thing I appreciate about the show is that not only can it be calm and laid back in more character and establishing moments, but it also can be equally as exciting and fun for its more adventurous and action scenes. The characters are all very charming. Hilda is a free-spirited and adventurous young girl, but she's not a pushover or overly cheery either. Her friends both regular and supernatural, can sometimes fall into familiar tropes, but also are very fun and enjoyable to watch. (Alfie's my favorite). It's a great show to watch, especially on days you want to cozy up with a cup of hot liquids of some kind, and take it all in. It's a great show, and I highly recommend giving it a watch.
14. Christopher Robin
I missed Winnie the Pooh. Yes, an 18-year old male misses the adventures of a talking teddy bear. Deal with it. But anyways, for a while it seemed that Disney had somewhat given up on the bear with little brains, but they've given him another chance with this new film, but this time, mainly focusing on his human friend, Christopher Robin. One thing this movie gets right is the feeling of Winnie the Pooh. Pooh has never been known for incredibly convoluted stories, just mainly simple tales that it's colorful cast of characters can bounce off of, and this movie nails that feeling down. It's also close to the original cast of characters, since deviating away from their personalities would be considered a form of blasphemy. Also, the performances here are great too. Evan McGregor makes a surprisingly good Christopher Robin, Hayley Atwell is charming as his wife, the girl who played their daughter was pretty good too, and of course, our friends from the 100 Acre Woods are played very well by the new cast, especially the one and only Jim Cummings, the only modern voice for both Pooh and Tigger. Now it does have flaws, like the story is kind of the typical "Dad's too busy for the kids", and although I've grown to like it over time, but sometimes it got a little too dramatic for some scenes, and at time Christopher Robin himself came off a bit as whiny and unlikable in some scenes. With that said, it's very easy to see that the whole film is a big love letter to Winnie the Pooh. No, it's not the best movie of the year, Or anything like that, but if you want a nice, enjoyable and cute movie to watch, then Christopher Robin is the perfect film to watch.
Tumblr media
15. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
Tumblr media
I'll break my rule just this once to include a video game here. Super Smash Bros Ultimate was the biggest game from Nintendo this holiday season, and boy did it deliver. The last Smash Bros. game, was lots of fun, with it bringing all of our favorite (popular) video game characters together for a huge brawl. This next one, takes it up to 11. One thing I walkways admired from the games is that it's not the world's most complicated fighter game, while also still being oodles of fun. Only one big flaw: no Waluigi. Nah, just kidding. It's a great game, and a great farewell to the world of Smash from it's director, Masahiro Sakurai.
16. The Dragon Prince
Tumblr media
Here's another show that didn't get that much attention on Netflix, The Dragon Prince. Made by the head writer from Avatar: The Last Airbender, and the creator of the Uncharted games, comes a massive fantasy epic focusing on the Battle between humans and fantasy creatures like elves and dragons. One thing I really love about this show is just how complex the characters and their morals are. It's a show that takes a lot of advantage from this theme. It's also filled with lots of fun, yet also very interesting characters. You will probably get attached to them by the end of the show, which may break some hearts too... But yeah, might as well address the elephant in the room, the animation. In fact, I do think that maybe the reason it didn't immediately catch on was because a lot of people were turned off by the animation style. But I still recommend it and ask that you give it a chance, because not only was it lots of fun, and very interesting, but the story and characters help redeem the animation, plus it does improve itself over time. Please, please, please give The Dragon Prince a chance, it's a great show.
17. Ralph Breaks the Internet
Don't worry. It's not another Emoji Movie. Ralph Breaks the Internet is not only a worthy successor to the original film, but it also manages to expand a lot on the heart from the original. This time, instead of arcade games, it plucks our characters into the Internet, and unlike the Emoji Movie, manages to make more clever and creative ideas while being on the Internet. And yeah, maybe the scene when Vanellope visits the Disney website might be Disney patting themselves on the back a little too hard, but it's still a very funny and enjoyable scene that also helps move the plot forward. But one thing the movie was amazing at was expanding on its characters and their development. It even manages to avoid the typical happy ending, which, without spoiling anything, actually makes a change in the characters lives. If there is a flaw, like I said, it's 10 times better than the Emoji Movie, but I will admit, between the cameos from Youtubers and the one scene where Ralph becomes a meme, did kind of make me roll my eyes, but thankfully, unlike the Emoji movie, it doesn't dwell too much on these scenes all that much, and knows when to move the plot forward in the right direction. I still say it's a worthy sequel that's worth your time.
Tumblr media
Also, Yesss is my new waifu.
18. Mary Poppins Returns
Tumblr media
Here's one of the few live-action Disney films in recent years, I feel are very worthy to the legacy of their original film. Mary Poppins Returns is just a complete and utter joy of a film, not unlike the original classic. The performance of Emily Blunt as the titular nanny is a worthy successor the original by Julie Andrews, and character in general. Lin Manuel-Miranda not only does a great job in continuing the spirit of Dick Van Dyke from the first film, but also in writing a plethora of great songs that are amazingly performed and choreographed by the cast, while also giving tribute to the Sherman Brother's original songs. Even the kids, who I kind expected to get on my nerves, are actually pretty likable and fun, and are given, eh passable performances by their actors and actress. The animation sequence brought a tear to my eye, not only because it was lots of fun, but because I'm just happy to beautiful 2D Disney animation on the big screen again. If there is some flaws, yeah, the story is yet another Dad needs to spend more time with kids plot again, and it does bring some more action/suspenseful moments that I don't feel are completely in spirit to the original film's more laid back tone. But regardless, it's an overall great and very charming new film from Disney, and although I would like them to try doing some more original stuff with their live-action movies, I hope can keep the spirit of both this film, and a lot of the classic live-action Disney movies (like the original Mary Poppins, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, Treasure Island, Darby O' Gill, Swiss Family Robinson and some others you guys probably never heard of).
So that's about it. Thank you all for sticking around listening to me talk about all these Movies and TV shows are worth remembering from this year, and there's a lot I'm excited for next year, and I hope that this next year can be an improvement, with more kindness and joy from the world and from people. Yeah, it's wishful thinking, but it's not a bad wish to have. Thank you all for supporting this page for the last year, and I'LL see ya in 2019!
