Ah, yes. Our "I am the only normal one around here" hero, ladies and gentelmen...
He only has over half a dozen Ancient Powers in his body, twice as many stashed around in various items, which include power-ups from two dead Dragons, a team made entirely out of live Dragons for him to command, the artifacts of the Dragon Lord and Dragon Slayer, which he mantually combined becuase that's a thing that can happen, an aura that can make a Dragon kneel in an instant... did I forget anything? I probably forgot something
But suuure, he is "totally completely normal human", no divinity going on around here... 😂
I did this in 30 min. Cale... Cale you are so close to winning why are you asking about the qualifications to become a god in the last update Cale!?

Todays chapter (part 2, 287) was really like...
The green trees we see after the sun rises on a snow covered land, that survived through a blizzard.

For those who don't understand it... that's a shortened version of the long poetic description of Clopeh's "holy" smile given by none other than Super Rock himself 🤣🤣🤣
Seems like Super Rock had a poet hidden in him all along! 🤣

I feel that those answers are slightly out-of-character for Cale Henituse. Allow me to rectify this.
"Happy memories vs 1 billion?" Cale: ...Only 1 billion? That's the change in my pockets right now, who are you trying to scam here??
"If you were to go to a deserted island, what three things would you take with you?" Cale: (D-deserted island? Slacker life??) ...Do I have to bring anyone??
"Being forgotten by everyone vs losing your memory of everyone?" Cale: *thinking of his hero fame* ...Is being forgotten just a hypothetical scenario? Because I can pay you to make it happen
"What do you think is your biggest strength?" Cale: *proudly* None. I am very weak after all
(*Groans of disapproving family in the background*)
So a few days ago Kakaopage released this small interview with Cale on twitter. And I'm bringing it to you (prepare tissues some of these answers hit hard lemme tell you)
Tumblr media
Q1: happy memories vs 1 billion
Cale: Happy memories. I have no choice but to choose this.
Q2: If you were to go to a desert island, what three things would you take with you?
Cale: Ron, Beacrox, Raon. Actually, just Ron is fine.
Tumblr media
Q3. Being forgotten by everyone vs losing my memory of everyone
Cale: To be forgotten by everyone. Of course the former. It is possible to be a slacker in seclusion.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Q4: What do you think is your biggest strength?
Cale: Face. I'm handsome, after all.

Me, wondering: Why do I always get a weird feeling when I'm reading "Alver" instead of "Alberu"? It's not like I care about the specific translation all that much, or have a specific association with the name "Alver" or... anything... ... Wait a minute – "Alver"... "Alvin"... chimpunks... squirrels... ... ... Me: ...No wait that pun doesn't even work that well in English since flying squirrels and chipmunks are different words in this language- My brain: DO THE MEME ANYWAY

If I were Cale, and was given enough time to save Harris Village... 🤔
I think I would have evacuated everyone ahead of time and arranged it to look like a random monster attack from the Forest of Darkness destroyed the village shortly before the assassin squad arrives. That way Arm wouldn't suspect a "leak in information". Perhaps Cale would take things a step further, and frame someone else – the Stans or the Empire, for example, like Cale does on several occasions – or even prepare a counterattack...? But I don't think Cale would have done that last part with such limited information on Arm and few strong allies so early on. He always aims for overwhelming advantage to avoid casualties. Especially since we know that the White Star was going to show up in the forest, so attacking head-on would have ended in a complete disaster. But evacuating the Harris Village residents without anyone dying would absolutely be doable.
...I suspect that's the exact reason why the God of Death didn't transmigrate him earlier to let Cale save the village. Because of the possibility of having him face the White Star too early. If Cale met him on accident so early on, he 100% would have died. From a cruel, pragmatic standpoint... the risk simply wasn't worth it.
(I'm still throwing shade at Choi Jung Gun for not writing more info on freaking Cale Barrow in his stupid book series, Cale could have absolutely used that info)
Since I've talked about almost all the other important parts during my reread, I didn't want to forget the sealed god's test.
It's just... So good I'm not even sure where to start. Like, this is a moment where Cale really shines.
Cale. Rok Soo, which we're told means 'to always grow green, even in winter'.
And we see that in this test.
The sealed god throws him into one of the worst moments of his life, expressly to make him despair.
Instead, Cale takes that moment and uses it to rewrite the past, and erase all his regrets.
This is where we really get to see what post-apocalyptic Korea was like. And over and over again we learn how badly things went then, even as Cale makes sure it doesn't happen like that again.
We also see some of his years of experience, and maturity. Especially with how he handles Park Jin Tae, who was a bully and a tyrant - and also died in Cale's first life, fighting to save everyone in the shelter.
You can see what we've seen all along. Cale doesn't judge leaders by the petty stuff. He judges them on how well they take care of their people.
This is also where Cale, Choi Han, and Alberu really become an amazing trio.
Choi Han, who bargains a large chunk of his life away (just the time he'd be alone, as he ties the length of his life to Raons) in order to join Cale in his test.
And Alberu, who the Sun God helps possess a monster called the Dark Tiger when his real body is sleeping.
Those three are so tight knit now, it's beautiful. Real ride or die friends.
Especially when you remember where they all started.
It's also, as always, a time where you have to pay attention to the subtleties. This is Cale's past, and he's focused on making sure everyone survives... But Choi Han and especially Alberu can see the desperation, the struggle, and the near starvation of all the survivors. Alberu has a couple of moments when he's out of the test and giving updates to their friends, and you see him struggling. Because Cale asked him not to overly stress them (the kids especially) and basically say it's fine... And Alberu's like 'how can I tell them that?!?'
And then, naturally, there's Choi Jung Soo and Lee Soo Hyuk.
Younger versions, and not the ones Cale knew. But still, we get to learn more about his earlier found family.
We also see things going on back at home. Since his physical body is still there, his friends have to rescue him.
And we see how they're able to perform, even without Cale to call the shots.
We especially see how well Raon has grown, as he makes important decisions on how to find the monster statues.
Even more importantly, we have this at the end.
– Do you really think that this moment is the end of despair? Cale looked down at the rose gold lights burning in his hands. He opened his mouth to speak. ‘Is this moment the end of despair? No. Absolutely not.’ “This is just the beginning of the despair in this world.” It was just the beginning. Despair would reveal itself in many different forms in this world from now on. “But people have hope now.” After about a year since the world had turned into a mess… The people who had always lost, struggled, and barely managed to survive will be victorious for the first time. They would destroy this despair known as an unranked monster. The sealed god who had been silent for a moment asked as if he was sneering at Cale. – Do you have hope as well? It seemed to be implying that Cale was someone who could not have hope. That was how it sounded to Cale. Cale slowly shook his head. “No.” He did not have hope. However… “I have certainty.” Cale needed something more certain than hope. Finally, he had gotten it. “This place will draw a different future than my past. I’m certain of it.” He was certain that more people would survive than in his past. He was certain that they would have better lives. That was not speculation. Although it was a future that was yet to come, Cale believed it to be the truth. In fact, Cale wanted to be the one to finish the first step toward that certainty. The burning rose gold thunderbolts moved away from Cale’s hands. He started to speak again. “This is the first time I’m saying this to a god.” Toward the silent sealed god… To the god who had tried to give him despair… Cale said the following. “Thanks.” He really meant it. “My memories didn’t end in despair thanks to you.”
It's not that he defeated despair. That despair will no longer exist.
But there's hope, and he is certain that the future will be better.
And even more so - he is grateful that he had this chance to change his memories.
He took this thing that was supposed to break him, and used it to fix himself instead.

There is certainly a lot to love about that arc – there's a reason why it became one of my favorites. But for me, the most defining moment of it all is when Cale calls all the shelters leaders and starts reciting the numbers of each of their survivors.
You could see this scene as Cale flexing his "unfair" future knowledge, I suppose. He's from another world, a "future" version of it so to spak, so Cale can pass his knowledge as "power of prophecy" and scam everyone into participating in the Unranked Monster hunt. But, I want to focus on a simple question:
...Why does Cale remember each and every number of survivors?
Ignore "Record" for a moment. Impossibly good memory aside, why on Earth would anyone bother to remember such a specific statistic? It would be one thing if he just remembered the total number of all survivors all over Korea. Why did Cale memorize every single leader & their shelter's "performance" during such a critical time?
The first answer that surely comes to mind; those were the people he used to work with. He even states as much in his inner monologue. They were people who were in charge in the future, and he often had to contact them for cooperation (likely with much difficulty on his part, considering the huge egos of all the "big shots" involved). It also explains how Cale knew the best method to convince them; instead trying to invoke sympathy or chivalry or even fear, he promised them "victory" on a silver platter – something they all wished for more than anything else at that point. By understanding how many people each of them managed to save, Cale could also estimate how strong they were, and how effective they were as leaders overall.
But the second reason is a bit more subtle than that.
Cale is, at his core, someone with countless regrets. It's stated as much in the attempted Failure Test in the Sealed God's Temple; he is someone who measures each failure equally, constantly processing & reevaluating data for answers in order to figure out how to prevent disasters the next time they strike. In other word, he was learning all those statistics in order to learn and save more people in the future.
As for the scene itself...
There is something deeply profound, about Cale remembering each and every single number. It is testimony of how much time and effort he must have put into studying such a devastating period of time. Time which became his own personal "Test of Despair", no less.
Most people would have tried their best to forget such trauma, but no. Each number Cale recites is not just something he read once in a report – it's evidence of the countless hours he must have spent mulling over this information, the analysis he put into it, and the conclusions he must have drawn that let him save more lives.
And it's even more amazing to realize that if Cale had been given any more time and resources... he would have headed towards every single one of those shelters to prevent all those deaths. As we have seen with his own shelter, as well as every other shelter he managed to reach later on... He would have managed it, too. He's someone capable of having 0% casualty rate whenever he gets fully involved.
Those numbers of survivors exist in his memory because all the people who died were people Cale wished he could have saved too.
Since I've talked about almost all the other important parts during my reread, I didn't want to forget the sealed god's test.
It's just... So good I'm not even sure where to start. Like, this is a moment where Cale really shines.

How to explain Kim Rok Soo:
Just assume that KRS is Batman, except he actually has some powers, he's delusional about not being rich, has 10 times more tragic backstory, actually murders his bad guys and doesn't get his military-proficient-butler or evil clown nemesis until he transmigrates 😂

So true, so true. "Had every reason to turn evil yet chose not to" really describes Cale to a T. Most people who went through half of what he did would have gone insane. I adore this man.
Tcf part 2 chapter 278
Tumblr media
One thing I have always loved about Cale is that he never does all that "trying to understand the villain, what could their circumstances be, why are they doing all this evil stuff" bullshit.
When he recognises someone as evil than they're evil. When they've done stuff so cruel it literally makes his blood boil than they're evil. No matter what curcumstances they had they're evil.
Because he as Kim Rok Soo had a tough life too, he had misfortune and death follow him throughout his entire life and yet he would never act the same as ex.: White Star or the Hunters. He knows the circumstances don't define the person but their actions do so why the hell does he need to listen to their reasoning.
The few times he has listened to the people he was against it was because he saw good in them or the same anger against their common enemy and used that to his advatage by bringing people on his side.
Cale is very good at noticing the true character of a person through their actions. And when the actions speak louder than words no way in hell is he trying to analyse these villains. They're evil and messed up and that's it!

So... new chapter came out early to celebrate the 6th anniversary of TCF
First of all, yay!
Secondly — so the bad guys keep finding new exciting ways to be absolutely terrible...
…I think the God of Chaos might be the divine equivalent of Shou Tucker from FMA, if this is the kind of stuff his followers are into. Sooo.... I vote to seal him up and throw him into a fiery pit ASAP
Also, I never thought I'd say this; guys I think we should be thankful that Venion was utterly stupid 😐 Because if this is the kind of stuff he could have done to Raon I think we all got lucky
