So that hofas bonus Ember chapter huh.
I wish Tamlin and Nesta built a casual friendship.
It's such a missed opportunity! They were both assigned penance eternal by the IC over their relationships with Feyre with no road to redemption. In acosf they were both on a shame spiral. You'd think this would be a like calls to like moment! Opportunity to recognise that just coz Rhys's friends hate you doesn't make you a bad person!

Lost Bonds pt 2
Tumblr media
Summary - After the second war, an unexpected bond with Y/n Archeron, and repairing all he's lost, Tamlin is shocked with news from the very female Rhys has been protecting from him.
Warnings- cliffhanger because I liked the suspense, angst in a way, unrequited love, one sided fated mates
A/N - I'm going to apologize and ask for forgiveness now. The rest of this is written, but it was uncomfortably long. I broke it into 3 parts, so you all weren't reading a short novella.
Read part one here Pt 3
Tumblr media
Winnowing was the stupidest form of transportation, y/n thinks she has ever used.
She sighed as she walked through the woods she found herself in, praying silently to the void that she was still in the Night Court.
It definitely did not smell like home, though. The sweet scent of flowers and petrichor surrounded her like a warm embrace. Welcoming her, relaxing her. Her finally clue she was lost came from looking up once more. The trees were blooming. It was late winter in Velaris. Yet here, small pink and white buds covered every tree she could see. They swayed in a soft, rain scented breeze that almost seemed to tingle her skin.
She sighed heavily, playing with the wedding ring and band resting on her left ring finger. She didn't know if Azriel would be proud or upset. She had managed to winnow herself from the Illyrian Steppes to Spring.
Even new to the world of the fae, she knew that was not an easy thing to do. It explained her exhaustion, the small trickle of blood running down her nose. She continued walking, hoping she would find someone, anyone who may help her.
Tamlin felt someone enter his court uninvited and shifted to head their way. All the High Lords had just received a message from Rhysand regarding her.
Azriel had evidently been training her with her new powers blooming and suddenly appearing out of nowhere. She had been practicing winnowing, and now they could not find her.
It would have been ridiculous to assume an untrained female had made her way all the way down to the seasonal courts, but after Nesta had shown her hand just a few years ago, and Elain after that, it would not have surprised any of the High Lords at this point. He continued moving closer to the border between his court and the human realm, following where the magic was alerting and then pausing.
You stood before him, illyrian leathers clinging to every beautiful curve. He shifted with a heavy sigh. “Come. Let's get you to The Manor so Rhysand can come get you.” The look of relief washing over your features tugged at his heart. The bond had not snapped for you, but he didn't need to feel your emotions to know you were afraid and very tired.
You took his hand, bracing yourself as he tore through the fabric of the world and landed in a garden outside of his repaired estate. “You need food,” he said casually. “We can either go inside so you can eat while you wait for him, or there's a table out here.”
He wanted to beg you to come inside, to see what he had done, to see what your home should look like. He had imagined for years now a life with you. A life where he heard your laughter every day, where you loved him and he you.
He had rebuilt his home with that life in mind. A grand piano sat centered in a sunroom you'd both use for entertaining. A dais where two thrones sat. Rooms for future children if you want them. He rebuilt the manor with love he had buried away for you. And now he hoped you noticed it, acknowledged it even. You belonged here. You would radiate here.
Aside from showing your body, the black leathers of the Night Court did nothing for you. You needed to be in jewel tones, in light colors. He remembered your skin glowing in the gown at the High Lords meeting. He ignored the pain in his chest as he saw the ring sitting on your finger, the one that matched that dress perfectly.
Blue was a lovely color for you. The silver band was plain as if Azriel had not put much thought into the ring. It was beautiful, but his heart rebroke, knowing it should have been rose gold and diamonds sitting on that finger.
You motioned inside, wordlessly avoiding eye contact with him. He took you to the dining room where dinner had been waiting for him and grabbed another plate and cup.
He served you in silence. The familiarity of the situation almost mocked him. “Thank you,” your voice was so soft it had him almost shivering. It had been 6 years since the war ended, 6 years without seeing or hearing it, and it had his soul burning. He yearned for you. His perfect match.
He nodded. “You're welcome.” He summoned a paper, writing a note to Rhysand and the other High Lords that he had found you and where you had made it to. “Rhys will probably come running, so eat quickly.”
You shook your head. “He's so busy with Nyx lately that he hardly cares what I'm up to. He will send Azriel.” His throat tightened. He'd had to see his mate with her husband.
Your husband, who was probably worried sick, who probably had been searching as far out as he could. “Then you should definitely eat quickly. Mother knows how desperately he probably wants his wife back home.” Tamlin clocked the way your eyes grew sad, the small frown that formed.
“Yeah. I suppose.” He didn't question that sadness, allowing you whatever space you needed to process it alone.
You were so comfortable next to the male who had ruined everything for you that it was almost laughable. Tamlin, to your shock, was warm. He was being kind. He seemed to know what you needed before you even asked. You had pictured Tamlin as this monster for so long. A cruel male with a heart of stone, but his mere presence had something glowing in your chest, sending warmth through your body.  “I thought the manor was destroyed.”
Tamlin's green eyes looked towards you, spoon held halfway to his mouth. “I had a reason to fix it, along with the whole court.”
You nodded. “It's really pretty.” The walls were lined with Vining floral, marble floors dancing with natural stone veining. Soft green curtains veiled the large floor to ceiling windows. "Elain would love all the flowers. She used to make me work in the gardens with her. I miss it sometimes."
He seemed to blush at the words. “Thank you. And if you truly miss working gardens, there are plenty here that would love attention." Your lips twitched up, but you two fell back into silence.
Tamlin was unsure of what to say to his mate. A piece of parchment appeared beside him, elegant script gracing the page. “Rhys will be here in a moment with Azriel.”
You nodded before caving and asking the question that had been on your mind since you first met the male in his beast form, breaking down the door to the rundown shack you all called home. “What was the significance of killing the wolf?”
He turned to you, brows raised. “Feyre didn't tell you?” You shook your head, staring at the tea you were holding. “I was cursed by one of Hyberns former generals. In short, I had to make a mortal who hated fae enough to kill one fall in love with me in order to break her spell and free the lands. That wolf was one of my closest friends.” The last sentence was barely audible. “Feyre killing him made her the only one who could break the curse.”
As your face fell into confusion, darkness appeared in the manor, gathering in the corner like a void until Azriel and Rhysand stepped out. “Tamlin,” Rhysand greeted smoothly. You couldn't help but to laugh at the High Lord, covered in paint, hair ruffled, eyes tired. “y/n, are you okay?”
You stood nodding, and Azriel moved quickly to you, arms around your waist as he picked you up and held you close. Once he set you down, you turned to Tamlin. “Thank you for sheltering and feeding me and for the invitation to play in your gardens."
“Of course,” he and Rhysand were locked into a stare down, one Rhysand clearly had every intention of winning. “She is unharmed, Rhysand. Just tired and needing rest. You're allowing him to push too hard.”
Rhys narrowed his eyes, looking to you then back to Tamlin before nodding. “I will consider your opinion. Let's go, y/n. Nyx was distraught when he heard you were missing.”  Any chance Tamlin may have had of convincing you to stay faded instantly. You moved to Rhysand, letting him take your hand and examine your face for any injuries. “Azriel, let's go.”
The shadowsinger nodded and spoke coldly to Tamlin. “Thank you for caring for my wife.”
Tamlin hid a scoff behind his wine and nodded. “It wasn't for your benefit, spymaster.” The two glared hard towards each other before Azriel smirked and walked towards you.
A feeling of guilt sat in your stomach, lingering there as Rhys began to summon his magic. “Wait,” you pulled your hand away from Rhys and took a step closer to Tamlin. “I'm sorry.”
The Lord of Spring arched a brow feeling the conflict in you from the bond. “For?”
You took a heavy breath, hands shaking as you subconsciously reached for Azriel's hand. You needed his familiarity, possibly his protection. You were about to tell Tamlin something that may have made everything he had gone through feel empty, like his love for your sister had been for nothing. You took a deep breath, looking up and sending a silent prayer to the Mother.
“Feyre didn't kill the wolf," the faces of all three males dropped, the secret finally coming out and being brought to light. “I did."

You know what??? I try to be civil when I'm discussing ACOTAR, but this fandom is making me lose more brain cells every day. So, I'm about to start getting really mean. Block me if that bothers you.
Tumblr media
This is just part of the post. This might have worked had SJM not brought politics and real world standards into ACOTAR. She made out Tamlin to be the "bad guy" because he locked her in his manor briefly. This is, by real world standards, bad. By fantasy standards, it's soooo vanilla. ESPECIALLY when you consider that Tamlin was trying to keep Feyre from doing something stupid and getting herself hurt. So if this is the standard we’re using, it has to apply to Rhysand’s sexual assault of Feyre too. It has to apply to Rhysand locking Nesta up in a house, of using a hard shield around Feyre. Politics? If you didn’t want to talk about politics, then why bring Tarquin into this? Why the High Lord meeting??? She’s trying to convince us Feyre is a political genius while simultaneously having her do objectively shit that would convince any potential allies to side with Hybern just to get rid of this bitch. She’s made Lucien the connection between Spring, the human lands, and Night. He said they’ll need Spring as an ally when the dust clears. So Rhysand telling Tamlin to kill himself is objectively bad by the narrative. Feyre getting innocent Spring Court citizens killed is objectively bad by the narrative. You can’t apply a different standard to the Inner Circle than you do to Tamlin and the rest.

I'm know I've mentioned it before, but considering that Feyre and Rhys are both two halves made whole, Nesta's and Elain's books essentially mirror ACOMAF split into two. Nesta's journey parallels Feyre's healing from her UTM ordeal, with Rhys's full Illyrian counterpart. Meanwhile, Elain's exploration mirrors Feyre's ascension to reclaiming the High Lady title, with Rhys's full fae counterpart.
While SF may have faced criticism, Nesta had to heal through aspects that had never bothered her before, much like Feyre did, and Cassian has already worked through most of his issues, though he still acknowledges his self-worth issues. Their story seems complete, but ACOMAF hints more towards Elucien's story, especially when dissecting Rhys's chapter 54 alongside Lucien's journey throughout the books.
Though Rhys's and Lucien's experiences differ, there are enough parallels for me to draw connections. SJM loves her patterns, so it wouldn't be surprising if she continues this trend in Elucien's story as well.
Indents are from chapter 54 and orange is Lucien
He paused, swallowing. “I was chained in the mud, forced to watch as they battled. To watch as Jurian took my killing blow. Only—she slaughtered him. I watched her rip out his eye, then rip off his finger, and when he was prone, I watched her drag him back to the camp. Then I listened to her slowly, over days and days, tear him apart. His screaming was endless. She was so focused on torturing him that she didn’t detect my father’s arrival. In the panic, she killed Jurian rather than see him liberated, and fled.
A tight sigh. “His father had her put down. Executed, in front of Lucien, as his two eldest brothers held him and made him watch.”
And that night, when she kept turning her attention to me, I knew what she wanted. I knew it wasn’t about fucking me so much as it was about getting revenge at my father’s ghost. But if that was what she wanted, then that was what she would get. I made her beg, and scream, and used my lingering powers to make it so good for her that she wanted more. Craved more.
He wouldn’t meet my gaze. “She insisted. Tamlin was … Things were bad, Feyre. I went in his stead, and I did my duty to the court. I went of my own free will. And we completed the Rite.” No wonder she’d backed off him. She’d gotten what she wanted. “Please don’t tell Elain,” he said. “When we—when we find her again,” he amended. He might have completed the Great Rite with Ianthe of his own free will, but he certainly hadn’t enjoyed it. Some line had been blurred—badly.
But your final trial came, and … When she started torturing you, something snapped in a way I couldn’t explain, only that seeing you bleeding and screaming undid me. It broke me at last. And I knew as I picked up that knife to kill her … I knew right then what you were. I knew that you were my mate, and you were in love with another male, and had destroyed yourself to save him, and that … that I didn’t care. If you were going to die, I was going to die with you. I couldn’t stop thinking it over and over as you screamed, as I tried to kill her: you were my mate, my mate, my mate.
Lucien staggered a step forward as Elain was gripped between two guards and hoisted up. She began kicking then, weeping while her feet slammed into the sides of the Cauldron as if she’d push off it, as if she’d knock it down— “That is enough.” Lucien surged for Elain, for the Cauldron. And the king’s power leashed him, too. On the ground beside Tamlin, his single eye wide, Lucien had the good sense to look horrified as he glanced between Elain and the High Lord.
So Amarantha died, and I spoke to the High Lords mind to mind, convincing them to come forward, to offer that spark of power. None of them disagreed. I think they were too stunned to think of saying no.
Elain was still shivering on the wet stones, her nightgown shoved up to her thighs, her small breasts fully visible beneath the soaked fabric. Guards snickered. Lucien snarled at the king over the bite of the magic at his throat, “Don’t just leave her on the damned floor—” There was a flare of light, and a scrape, and then Lucien was stalking toward Elain, freed of his restraints. Tamlin remained leashed on the ground, a gag of white, iridescent magic in his mouth now. But his eyes were on Lucien as—As Lucien took off his jacket, kneeling before Elain. She cringed away from the coat, from him
When I went to leave you … I think transforming you into Fae made the bond lock into place permanently. I’d known it existed, but it hit me then—hit me so strong that I panicked. I knew if I stayed a second longer, I’d damn the consequences and take you with me. And you’d hate me forever.
But Elain was staring over Nesta’s shoulder. At Lucien—whose face she had finally taken in. Dark brown eyes met one eye of russet and one of metal. Nesta was still weeping, still raging, still inspecting Elain— Lucien’s hands slackened at his sides. His voice broke as he whispered to Elain, “You’re my mate.”
I heard you were going to marry him, and I told myself you were happy. I should let you be happy, even if it killed me. Even if you were my mate, you’d earned that happiness.
“My mate is engaged to a human male.” He spoke more to himself than to me. “I’m sorry if—” “I want to see her. Just once. Just—to know.” “To know what?” He hitched my damp cloak higher around us. “If she is worth fighting for.” I couldn’t bring myself to say she was, to give him that sort of hope when Elain might very well do everything in her power to hold to her engagement. Even if immortality had already rendered it impossible. Lucien leaned his head back against the rock wall behind us. “And then I’ll ask your mate how he survived it—knowing you were engaged to someone else. Sharing another male’s bed.”
“It killed me, Feyre, to send you back. To see you waste away, month by month.
Too thin. She must not be eating at all. How can she even stand? The thoughts flowed through his head, one after another. His heart was a raging, thunderous beat, and he didn’t dare move from his position a mere five feet away. She hadn’t yet turned toward him, but the ravages of her fasting were evident enough.
But I couldn’t … I couldn’t stop being around you, and loving you, and wanting you. I still can’t stay away.
Cassian’s heart strained at the pain etching deep into Lucien’s face as he tried to hide his disappointment and longing.

"wicked slashing scar"
"brutal scar"
"brutally scarred face"
"cruel beauty"
You know, SJM made no mention of Elain's beauty in ACOTAR outside of her desire to still look lovely despite poverty.
It wasn't until ACOMAF, once she realized Elucien would be mates, that she noted Elain's looks were a defining feature of hers.
And by then, we had already been made aware that Lucien had some insecurities regarding his scar:
Tumblr media
While Elain and Lucien are extremely similar in personality and personal beliefs, the most important reasons for making them mates, I kind of love that SJM took her most scarred character (because a fake eye and scar running down the length of his face, not to mention the scars he has from when Tamlin was forced to whip him, are pretty intense and the first thing someone notices when looking at Lucien) and paired him with someone whose beauty was first described as "soft and lovely" then "devastatingly beautiful" after being made.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Something about that contrast (her soft and lovely beauty with his cruel beauty) gives me the feels.
It's not a contrast that forces them to give up the parts of themselves that matter, for example, Elain being troubled by cruelty but ending up with someone who is extremely violent, but a contrast that shows how appearances are only skin deep.
Personally I really dislike the idea of "the prettiest" Archeron with the "prettiest" batboy because it seems extremely shallow. Like someone expecting that two people must be together because they were rated "most attractive guy and girl" in the yearbook (is that still a thing? It used to be) and that's the vibe I get when Feyre thinks of how handsome Elain and Az would be. The only reasons she could picture them together was because they'd share "peace and quiet" and both possessed certain physical attributes. That is definitely not enough to build a relationship on.
Make no mistake, Lucien is handsome but his is not that of an air brushed perfection and there will always be a stigma that comes along with those who first meet him. Curiosity, shock, maybe a bit of fear.
And it's something I'm sure he's already dealt with many times over, cataloging the very many reactions others have the moment they set eyes on him, their constant stares.
Jesminda knew Lucien before Amarantha forever scarred him and while I think the majority of his closing himself off from emotional connection had to do with loyalty to her, I do think we'll find that he doubts whether anyone else could even want to be with him, knowing that he's basically the only fae around with facial imperfections. Many characters have voiced how attractive he is however once an insecurity takes root, it's difficult to weed out.
Sure Ianthe wanted him but that was for own self serving purposes, a way to get ahead.
So if Elucien were to end up together, it would be powerful for them both.
Everyone is under the impression that Elain is a bit shallow and is only concerned with looking her best, Nesta even remembers her mother saying Elain would marry for "beauty" and love and that she did not dream beyond her "pretty dresses".
So falling for a male who, while truly handsome, has some very major imperfections (which make him all the more perfect to us Lucien stans), would show that Elain cares more about what is inside. Because Lucien is pretty perfect in that department.
And with Lucien's insecurities about his face, imagine what it would feel like to know that the most beautiful female he'd ever seen was the one who chose him regardless of his perceived "imperfections". That she wanted him just as he was.
Not that that would be his reason for wanting her, just as it wasn't Rhys's reason for wanting Feyre. However it would definitely be the cherry on top of it all.

Feel free to ignore if you're tired of hearing about this, but: your tags about SJM injecting real world morals into her stories and then ignoring them. Suddenly I am entirely clicking with where you are and from what point you're making your commentary. SJM is the one who chose to use modern concepts and buzz words for abuse and PTSD, and she is the one who chose to judge some characters by modern moral concepts but not others. That's what makes it so hard to do the usual analysis of characters, so I just don't. But you, if I understand you, are making your analyses to point out the flaws and holes in HER judgments. To show that SHE made it unbalanced and isn't playing by her own rules.
Yes, this is it exactly. I despise hypocrisy, and Sarah's books are unfortunately the pinnacle of such. The same standards that are used to judge Tamlin and Nesta would also render Feysand and co abusive, but the text (read: Sarah's favoritism) refuses to acknowledge that, doing a disservice to her own themes in the first place.
I also want to apologize in advance for the rant this is going to turn into, because man do I have FEELINGS about this.
Part of the reason the ACOTAR fandom is so toxic is because Mrs. Maas applied real world standards to a fantasy series, creating a conundrum where some characters are allowed to exist in and operate within a fantasy-based morality (like Rhysand, the Inner Circle, and Feyre) whilst others are held up to a stricter, real-world morality and are vehemently critiqued in text for failing to meet the moral standards of our world (Tamlin, Nesta, even Lucien), leaving fans of the latter group of characters to call out the hypocrisy in text for their characters being evaluated by standards that the former aren’t held to whilst fans of the former set of characters happily indulge in such hypocritical writing even while promoting this series as an excellent example of handling of real-world themes like abuse (and yes I did copy and paste this entire paragraph from another post of mine lol).
Some weeks back I saw someone on THAT SIDE of the fandom explain that they hated Tamlin because he abused Feyre (valid!) and pull out a picture of Sarah including the National Domestic Violence Hotline at the end of ACOFAS as evidence that liking him was morally wrong or whatever (I'd reblog the post, but OP is, again, on THAT SIDE of the fandom and sadly has me blocked now :( ).
But that same hotline is the one I've used in my analysis of why RHYSAND is abusive here, here, and here. The same source Sarah includes in these books to make a point about Tamlin being abusive also renders Rhysand abusive. But here's what gets me: The person and others like her who were reblogging that pic of the domestic violence hotline were also whining about people judging Rhysand by real world standards. Yes, I'm serious. For a topic like abuse, one deeply personal to me and many others, Sarah (and her fandom) can't pick and choose what characters to apply real world standards to. Not for something like this.
But we don't even have to use real world standards to call out the hypocrisy in how her characters were written--we can use ACOTAR's own morality as well. Case in point: Nesta's treatment in ACOSF. Locking Nesta up is treated as the right thing to do in ACOSF, but ACOMAF goes OUT OF ITS WAY to show that locking someone up is wrong and is a violation of your personal bodily autonomy, NO MATTER THE REASON. This action is often defended in one of two ways: by stans saying that Nesta was embarrassing Feysand when they needed to be keeping up appearances for the court, or, more commonly, because Nesta was an alcoholic. But neither reply holds water. If Nesta embarrassing Feysand in ACOSF was bad because they needed to keep up appearances as the court rebuilt and prepared for war with the mortal queens and Koschei, then... that justifies Tamlin getting upset with Feyre over the tithe several books earlier. That was his logic for being upset that Feyre gave the water wraith her jewelry, and also his logic for (according to fandom) "stuffing her in dresses"--keeping up appearances for the people and preventing Hybern from finding any weakness to exploit (again, this is according to fandom. In the books, the dresses were chosen by Ianthe but we both know no one pays attention and Tamlin is blamed for everything anyway). So either Tamlin was justified in ACOMAF, or Feysand are wrong. Nesta's alcoholism isn't a good excuse either, because if she were truly an alcoholic, Feysand would've put a healer in the House with her to help her through withdrawal and prevent her from having a seizure and dying, which I'll discuss in more detail in my upcoming post about Nesta. Either way, Feysand's treatment of Nesta was inexcusable by ACOTAR's own rules that say locking people up is bad, and in trying to excuse this some stans accidentally justify Tamlin's behavior in ACOMAF as he had the same excuses.
This also applies to the Inner Circle voting on whether or not to keep Nesta's powers a secret from her--didn't ACOMAF also say that that was bad and controlling on Tamlin's part? Why is Tamlin keeping Feyre's magic a secret abusive and controlling, but the Inner Circle deciding to do the same (even if it failed anyway) is fine?
The hypocrisy that began in ACOMAF in which Tamlin was declared abusive but Rhysand wasn't despite Rhysand... also being abusive spiraled out of control in ACOSF and is ultimately what fractured this fandom, and because of said hypocrisy nothing after ACOTAR 1 is enjoyable for me.
So yes. Beyond ACOTAR 1, I'm forced to evaluate the characters with the real-world morals Sarah decided to randomly include, and in doing so can't help but be faced by this series' own hypocrisy, and I'm hoping my analysis will allow others to see that the hypocrisy ultimately causes it to fold in on itself and destroys its own point.

Nesta Archeron // Pallas Athene
Tumblr media
Nesta Archeron as the Goddess Athena
While I'm not the biggest fan of warrior Nesta
I think Athena fits her in a perfect way as she's not the goddess of the physical art of war but of strategic warfare. In the same way, Nesta's first and greatest weapon was always her mind.
Athena is the goddess of wisdom, warfare, handicraft and is a protector of the city of Athens. In acomaf and acowar Nesta is largely motivated to work with the IC in hopes of saving as many humans (and Fae) as is possible. She also calculates the amount of boats needed to evacuate the populace.
Athena took the name Pallas after her friend who died when Zeus interfered in their sparring match, which distracted Pallas and caused Athena to fatally harm her. In a way this parallels the death of Clare Beddor, Nesta's friend who died when her name was given in place of Feyre's.
Athena is a bearer of the aegis, a powerful item capable of mythical levels of magic. In the same way Nesta uses the Dread Trove.
In many accepted versions, Athena is a result of parthenogenesis and has no mother, having been birthed fully-grown from Zeus's forehead. This can be paralleled by the absence and namelessness of Mama Archeron. As well as Nesta's emergence from the Cauldron, not just surviving its attempts to kill her but taking from the primordial power pool of the world itself.
In other versions, however, Athena is the child of Metis; Zeus's first wife and advisor and the personification of wisdom and council. Zeus fearfully swallows the pregnant Metis after it is predicted she will bear a son who is wiser than his mother and more powerful than his father.
Nesta, in many respects, is exactly that. Even able to rebuild the family fortune in less than a year by investing the money Tamlin offers. Paired with the knowledge and skill needed to calculate the evacuation plans. She also defies a High Lords' glamour as a human, advises Feyre to follow her heart and return to Prythian, sways the tide in the meeting of the High Lords etc.
Athena is often represented by snakes (medicine) and owls (protection and victory) many soldiers would be comforted by the sight of an owl over the battlefield. While Nesta is referred to as a viper and tied very closely to the winged people of Illyria, even saving a squad from the blast of the Cauldron.
Athena is also often associated with olive trees. In popular culture, olive branches are symbolic of reconciliation which is a prevalent theme for Nesta, especially with Feyre.
But Nesta and Athena also contrast in many ways. Athena is always aligned with Patriarchy and men.
She is Zeus's favourite child and allowed to bear his most powerful weapons including the aegis and lightning bolts despite the prophecy of her birth because she is not seen as a threat because she is a woman.
But in contrast Nesta is the most openly hostile towards her father, rooting him at the centre of her fear, anger and frustration despite his disability and circumstances.
Nesta is also very defiant and dismissive of the male authority and male figures around her with far less leniency than others grant to "nice guys" like Lucien, Cassian and Rhysand.
Nesta aligns herself more often with women and traditionally feminine but not "submissive" or performative traits. Her modesty is a choice and a shield more than a performance set to attract male attention or respect. Even her participation in the Rite ultimately boils down to her choosing to protect her friends more than to achieve something which would gain her love and respect from Cassian and other Illyrian males.
SJM's inconsistency and poor handling aside
Athena is Zeus's favourite child and patron goddess of the city of Athens not despite the ancient Greeks misogyny, but because she conforms to male ideals.
Nesta on the other hand, takes the power of the Cauldron for and by herself, she is often described as a queen and offered great power and titles associated with powerful men but rejects these not out of love for another but out of personal principle.

When did you go from loving Feysand and ACOMAF to hating everything after ACOTAR? I'm genuinely curious
Thanks for your question!
It was sometime after I had finished ACOMAF, maybe about midway through ACOWAR when I fully realized my feelings and acknowledged them.
I read ACOMAF in two days, which is wicked fast for any reading experience. So I was riding the highs the book was giving me without fully thinking them through. I remember being so excited that the characters I was shipping in book 1, Feyre and Rhysand, were actually becoming a real thing that I was ignoring all the things wrong with it. (Note: I shipped and enjoyed Feyre and Tamlin in the first book, too, along with Nesta and Lucien. It's not hard for me to ship things if I think it could be fun.) When I finished the book, I sat there, thinking over everything and kept asking myself, "They're together. So why am I so... unsatisfied?"
I didn't have these answers until ACOWAR, when Feyre was being so vengeful against a whole court because of her hatred for one person and treated Lucien like a toy after what he did for her UtM. When Feysand attended the war meeting with the other High Lords, a scene I had been waiting for for a loooong time in excitement, and it was like watching a middle school production of Mean Girls. Everything was so much... cheaper and poorly written than I wanted it to be. And SJM ripped off the Troy line: "The sun was shining when your wife left you." I came completely out of it at that moment because it felt like I was reading someone's OOC fanfiction, but nope. This was penned by the author in utter seriousness.
But subconsciously, the moment I began to hate ACOMAF, Feysand, the Night Court, the whole thing wasn't because of the sacrifice to Tamlin and Lucien's characters or even Feysand's characters. It wasn't the retconning and over-reliance on sexism and empty girl power as "themes." It was when SJM used Rhysand to say with her whole chest that the Night Court isn't actually a court that lives in perpetual night because he can't control the arc of the sun. That their nights are just somehow better than everyone else's, and I remember being so... disappointed by that. How weak sauce. How unimaginative. Because she has him say this, while fully ignoring that the Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter courts each maintain their respective seasons despite the tilt of the earth. If they can maintain their court state because of ~magical reasons, why couldn't the Night, Dawn, and Day courts do the same?
I know it sounds like a small thing, but it is a perfect example of SJM's laziness as a writer but also a failure of characterization and world-building, which are all problems that plague the series from the second book on. And the fans wouldn't be dealing with so many of these problems were it not for that second book. ACOTAR sparked my imagination in incredible ways because of how full of possibility it was, not just for Feysand but for all characters and the world. ACOMAF killed that imagination because everything was flattened down and compressed into Feysand and Velaris, which were... boring.
It snowballed from there.
I hated how the Suriel's prophecy was changed from Feyre needing to stay with Tamlin to avoid UtM from happening to Feyre staying with Rhysand to... ??? Because the narrative impact just isn't there like it is for the first book. I hated how the Children of the Blessed became nothing. I hated how Calanmai, one of the few things in the book that made these characters fae-like, became irrelevant. I hated how Rhysand went from being a frightening and formidable villain whose motives you couldn’t quite read to being an uwu soft boi who’d been secretly in love with Feyre the whole time. I hated how the story went from Rhysand doing truly heinous shit (twisting the bone in Feyre’s arm, the body paint, the forced kiss) to suddenly Doing No Wrong (except sssh, he is, we’re just never going to address it as wrong ever. Quick, brush it under the rug, it never happened).
I hated that it felt like I was reading about 15-year-old elves, and not at least the badly-behaving Silmarillion kind. I hated that Amarantha and Hybern had agents secretly infiltrate every court, and then that information totally vanished. I hated how humans didn't matter. I hated how "be glad of your human heart, Feyre" became utterly meaningless because Feyre became indistinguishable from Rhys and his Inner Circle. And to date, I hate the 500+ pages of trauma dumping for a measly 100 pages of action, if you’re lucky. I hate how none of the characters do what would actually be in character for them, but instead do what SJM wants them to do.
That's simply not engaging writing to me and why I walked away.

rank the characters in order of their thoughts on furries LMAOOOOOOO
STOP IT- okay fine.
17. Tarquin- Sweet, seahorse Tarquin. He's not AGAINST it...but when he learns about what's happening in Autumn and Spring, he's confused and concerned and maybe upset? Shape of DOLPHIN, Tarquin can't participate
16. Rhysand- Darling, I don't NEED to take an animal form and why would you want me to when I'm so magnificent OKAY ALRIGHT RHYS JESUS CHRIST WE GET IT. Tone it down. You're just okay.
15. Amren- Has written more than one twitter thread on the problems with these Fae and their animal/furry fucking ways. They've lost the PAGENTRY of what it means to be Fae. Says this unironically while sipping human blood.
14. Mor- Just not for her. Trying not to judge but like, she is DEFINITELY judging people for what they do in the privacy of their own bedroom. Join Calanmai? Uh no thank you. Not even curious.
13. Nesta- Arched eyebrow, curled lip when she learns about Lucien. I mean...if you're into that sort of thing I GUESS. You'll never catch Nesta with her cheek in the fucking dirt. She does the fucking, not the other way around.
12. Emerie- You'll never catch her DEAD with one of those half bat ding-dongs. No amount of Cassian explaining that wings do not equal furries will ever convince her. She knows what those men are like.
11. Gwyn- Respectful of what the rest of this list is up to, but would prefer a regular man. Ignores the man she routinely has sex with is half bat. Cognitive dissonance, we know her well.
10. Azriel- Half bat. Furry curious when he's punching Eris in the face at the High Lords meeting. Definitely listening a little TOO closely when he's spying on Spring. WHAT NO HES NOT INTERESTED THIS IS JUST FOR INFORMATION. Don't look at him like that.
9. Cassian- Disappointed he doesn't have an animal form. "Touch my wings, Nesta" he demands one night. "Look I bought this headband with ears-" No okay, yeah I'll put that away. Cassian would GO to Calanmai and fuck someone in a cave as a beast. Wishes he was a dragon (secret)
8. Feyre- Looking too hard and Helion and Rhys in beast form. I saw those descriptions Miss Ma'am. A thing of nightmares? A thing of daylight? Okay, alright. I'm sure you NEVER thought about yourself between them. OG furry fucker, given her time in Spring.
7. Helion- Look my man is liberated. He'll do anything once. Beast form, a fursuit, whatever. Cassian wants to wear little cat ears? Quick, Helion, this is your chance! Man is in love with an Autumn Court resident, he's too used to their strangeness.
6. Eris- Genuinely surprised people think it's weird. "We're MALE- practically animals already" he drawls. "FRENZY IS FOR ANIMALS" and he should say it. Everyone forgets that, but SJM should have taken the mate/frenzy trope to its natural conclusion
5. Jurian- Wife is a goddamn bird 12 hours of the day. He's sitting in this conversation like, what a bunch of pussies.
4. Vassa- Is a bird for 12 hours of the day. Husband does not seem to mind. No, technically theyve never DONE anything while she was a bird, but sometimes the humans stare when she's perched on his shoulder rubbing her head against his cheek.
3. Elain- Fox tail butt plug, a whole drawer of little headbands, my girl is a secret FREAK and I stand by that. Has nothing to add to this conversation, flaming cheeks when Lucien makes some small comment about it. Drags him home and lets him put her on his knees anyway.
2. Lucien- Helions son, former resident of the Spring Court orgy, pretend son of Autumn Lucien Vanserra Spell-Cleaver Archeron is a big fucking fan of furries.
TAMLIN- YOU ALREADY KNEW. FURSONA? YOU MEAN MY BEAST FORM RIGHT? Roaming the woods with claw and fur and talons doesn't mean he stopped having needs.

Lollipop
Azriel x innocent Vanserra OC
Tumblr media
Summary - after being silenced during the High Lord's meeting with her favorite candy. Seraphina finds herself the center of a certain shadowsingers attention
Warnings - implied smut, implied corruption kink, Beron being Beron (so mentions/signs of abuse), implied swapping, Nesta implying she'd go down on OC, age gap, messing with canon a little bit
A/N -I got bored and the whole corruption kink side of me came out. I also think I'm developing a Nesta kink, and it's probably going to get pretty smutty between her and an oc or reader here soon.... oooo or the valkyries x reader.... might have to do something for my girlies who love other girlies...
Part 2
Tumblr media
Azriel was going to fucking faint.
Beron, in an effort to stop his daughter from continuing to egg on the Princess of the Summer court, had pulled out some form of an candy on a stick and put it in her mouth much to the laughter and delight of everyone around.
Now all the shadowsinger could do was watch out of the corners of his eyes as his mate sucked and licked on the candy innocently while reading the book Eris had brought for her.
Doing okay there, brother? Rhysand's purr in his mind before the High Lord looked over at the daughter of Autumn had Azriel suppressing a growl. Well, doesn't little Seraphina just look so pretty with her lips wrapped around something.
Azriel shot him a glare before peeking over again. She had the candy so just the tip of it was in her mouth, lips wrapped perfectly around it. Cauldron fucking boil me. Rhysand sent him a wave of agreement as Feyre also looked over and smirked.
Feyre thinks the 3 of us should take her, and oh fuck-
Azriel and Rhys quickly snapped their eyes back to the meeting when the daughter of Autumn looked their way before looking at her older brother and tapping his shoulder.
Her breasts were on display, small hands delicating holding the stick of the candy as she leaned forward in the exquisite dress she was in to whisper in her older brother's ear.
The male heir of Autumn looked over to the Night Court glaring at the shadowsinger and the high lord. He growled softly before taking the candy from a clearly uncomfortable female.
"Excuse my interruption," Tamlin stopped talking as soon as Eris spoke and demanded the attention of the room, "Do you have something you'd like to say to my sister, Spymaster? You've been staring at her for the past 10 minutes."
The room had gone silent. Tamlin leaned forward with a smirk, as did Tarquin and Thesan. The daughter of Autumn was an unspoken set boundary. No one looked at or touched Beron's girl, not even Amarantha. Too much power radiated in that small body. Power anyone would have given Beron their left arm to have access to. They just had to follow his rules to get the chance to play for her hand, and right now, Azriel's silence was risking his own family's shot at it.
Might want to say something there, brother. Az shot Rhysand a glare before clearing his throat and saying the one thing he knew he shouldn't.
"How can I not stare at such a beautiful creature? Especially when your father so willing put something in her mouth for the entertainment of every male here?" Rhys froze and immediately sent a look Azriel's way.
That wasn't what I had in mind. Being her mate does not promise you her hand, Az. Beron could sell her off before Eris gets the chance to bring her to us. Tread carefully.
Beron laughed darkly before turning to the Night Court, "I didn't realize silencing my 55 year old daughter with candy would be such a problem for you, Azriel. No one else here seems to think anything of it. Must just be that Illyrian Bastard blood in you." The reminder of her young age was a slap in the face to the shadowsinger. A reminder that she hardly understood the world yet and that she had spent the majority of her life trapped in that mountain.
Azriel caught the way Seraphina's eyes shut slowly at her father's insults, "It's not a big deal, daddy. I-." Her father held a hand up to silence her. No one missed the flinch from the young girl. Helion, Azriel, Cassian, and Rhys all looked towards each other.
Helion was now staring at the young female too, his eyes softening at her fear. Beron glared at Helion before continuing, "If you continue to look at my daughter, you'll find yourself wingless, boy."
Sera even knew that was too far. Azriel watched the way her chest stilled as she stared wide eyed at her father before switching her gaze to Helion who shook his head softly at her in warning.
Rhysand growled this time, "Do not threaten MY family over your choice not to educate your daughter on sexual matters."
Sera was confused. How was a caramel apple sucker sexual? She made eye contact with the Spring lord, who simply motioned for her to come over to him, and she did.
She walked in a way that reminded Azriel of water. Flowing, smooth, gently. He barely suppressed the growl in his throat as Tamlin pulled the girl into his lap, his mouth close to her delicately pointed and jewel adorned ear.
The room filled with laughter as her eyes grew wide and a red flush hit her chest and cheeks. "Really," she whispered softly to Tamlin, who nodded and then continued whispering in her ear. Soft nodding came from her as Tamlin stroked her upper thigh and whispered to her, eyes locked on Azriel in a clear message. He knew. He could somehow sense the bond. "What's a," Tamlin covered her mouth, laughing slightly as he explained something else to her. "So people don't use the proper terms during sex?" Tamlin was smirking at this point. Whatever he had just said made the young girl gasp, and her eyes go wide.
Beron growled this time and tried to break the field of neutrality in anger but couldn't. "Enough, Tamlin!" Seraphina shifted in Tamlin's lap after he finished speaking to her. She stood and walked back over to the Autumn Court in shock and embarrassment.
"I apologize for the distraction, Shadowsinger. Forgive me," she began playing with her long red curls as Azriel scented her anxiety. "Thank you for the…. Educational lesson, high lord." The daughter of Autumn sat back down slowly and made a fatal error. Her and Nesta Archeron made eye contact and the oldest Cauldron made said one simple thing.
"In case he didn't tell you because he's a selfish male, there's males out there who'd return that favor. And females, if youd be interested in that." The daughter of Autumn grew more red and opened her book to hide her face in the crisp pages, "If you'd like to learn, let me know."
An audible squeak came from the young fae female, "Eris." She was desperate for help. Her brother shot a look Nesta's way, and she returned it with a hate fueled glare.
Tamlin had painted a mental image for her in pretty words chosen specifically to make the young female feel warm. Truly though, She didn't mind the idea. The thought of her on her knees as Azriel tangled his large scarred hands through her long red curls, tongue running along his cock as he made a mess of her made her feel warmth growing in her stomach she'd never felt before.
She had heard rumors from other females about the size of an Illyrian's wings having something to do with the size of their cock, and Seraphina was just trying to imagine how exactly that would work if rumors were true. How exactly would she fit all of him into her mouth if given a chance? The handsome spymaster had huge wings. The largest wings she'd ever seen on a winged fae. If wing size related to endowment size, his cock was huge. And if Nesta was involved?  Cauldron boil her. Would Cassian also be involved?
A hand gently clawed at her mind, causing her to freeze. It wasn't trying to get in her head. It was already there. Her honey eyes met violet ones as Rhysand leaned back in his chair and sipped his wine.
No, love, keep going. I was enjoying the delicious thoughts you were having. My brothers and I love sharing our toys. You could have Cassian and Nesta, myself and Feyre- His voice was purr that made her shiver with chills as she slammed him back out and watched as he looked at Azriel.
The winged male's only response was one side of his mouth twitching into a smile before he became unreadable again.
"Now that Seraphina has been educated on some of the finer matters of life, can we continue?" Kal asked coldly as he leaned back into his chair.
Eris discretely handed his sister back her candy. He shot her one look that said, "Be good," before focusing solely on Tamlin and Rhysand restarting their lovers spat.
Seraphina made eye contact with Azriel again as she slowly put the sucker back in her mouth. Azriel pulled his lower lip into his mouth and tugged the mating bond, praying Rhysand had been right when he said he had found it in her mind, but the female just didn't know what it was. Another way to keep her in the dark and innocent, Azriel thought bitterly.
She made a confused face as she looked down at her chest. Then followed the string to Azriel, lollipop now back in the same trapped position of her lips, If you continue looking at me like that with those pretty lips wrapped around that thing, I am not responsible for what happens next little bunny.
Is what Nesta said true? Azriel felt his leathers growing tight at her curious nature. He could feel desire radiating in their bond.
Of course. Only, I eat pussy for my pleasure, not yours. And I will eat pussy because I want to. Not because you've wrapped your pretty little mouth on my cock. He had her. He felt her arousal spike as she shifted. I imagine you'll also be the type who sucks cock for your pleasure instead of mine, little mate.
I'd like to learn. He almost came right then and there as he watched her put the candy in her mouth, eyes wide like a doe.
Keep doing that, baby, and I'll be stealing you to teach you much, much more than just whatever bullshit Tamlin told you. Fucking ruin you for anyone else.
Seraphina turned her attention back to the book she had with a small smile, I'm doing emissary work in the Dawn Court all week this week. I'll be alone tonight.
I'll find you.
I look forward to it.

“Bitch” wow! I don’t see the reason for getting so heated over these characters. They don’t actually exist you know? You’re not defending anyone’s honour or being some saint here. I didn’t mean anything in a bad way, I was trying to have a rational conversation because I’ve never come across an IC hater and wanted to know why you didn’t like them. But obviously having a rational conversation is out of your zone of abilities since it didn’t take a lot for you to get down to name calling. My only suggestion to you because I truly wish the best for you is control that anger and learn to listen to other people before someone shows you your place. It won’t be nice. Good luck bbg 💜💜
You're the one coming in anon and shitting on characters that I like. What did you expect??? I'm going to defend my characters, obviously. You want my dissertation on why I hate each member of the Inner Circle? Let's start with captain asshole Rhysand: Rhysand: Sexually assaulted Feyre, did not apologize, licked Amarantha's boots for fifty years to "protect" no one since he only rules 1/3 of his court. He claims to be uber powerful yet he can't control misogyny within 2/3 of his court. But it's totally fine to go into Tarquin's house, steal an important possession, then act superior later when his wife's antics in Spring caused Summer to be invaded. Pretends to give his wife a "choice" while not giving her crucial information, i.e. that he wouldn't be helping her out with the Weaver at all. Locked Lucien in a house, made rape jokes about his mother, altogether treated him like shit for no reason. Then the Inner Circle acts all shocked and furious that their "masks" as "bad guys" fooled everyone and act violent towards literally everyone not Inner Circle there. Rhysand forcibly shut Tamlin's mouth, Feyre burned Lucien and Eris's innocent mother, Azriel nearly choked Eris to death. Ironically, Cassian acted the most sane here. After Tamlin saved Feyre and Rhysand's lives multiple times, Rhysand has the gall to tell Tamlin to kill himself despite knowing they'll need him as an ally, which is a terrible thing to do and also made Lucien's life harder. ACOSF he locks Nesta in a house and hides the malignant nature of his wife's pregnancy from her. That's just the gist of it. Cassian: Rhysand's dog. He need to grow a fucking spine. He never defends Nesta in front of Rhysand, and constantly abuses her physically and mentally. Won't let her eat sugar, forces her to train, tells her everyone hates her, makes her hike a fucking mountain for having the nerve to disobey rhysand and tell feyre the truth she deserved to hear. Then again in HOFAS not defending Nesta in front of Rhysand when he was screaming at her for giving away the trove and telling her she should've killed Bryce instead. THAT. IS. YOUR. MATE. He treats all the women in his life better than her, like mor and feyre. Azriel: A fucking weirdo violent creep. He needs to man tf up and admit Lucien is the superior man. His creeping on Mor for 500 years when she's clearly not interested is not cute. Nor is choking Eris to death in an important political meeting. Nor is treating Elain like a helpless object and masturbating to a gag gift he gave her. I'lL dEfEaT hIm WiTh LiTtLe EfFoRt boi stfu no you can't and Lucien has done NOTHING to you. I have absolutely ZERO respect for a character who treats the nicest guy in the series like that. Elain is not a child to be fought over. He's so pathetically jealous that Lucien is a good dude and has a mate and is better than him at everything. He needs to admit his homoerotic desire for Lucien and get it over with. Or let Eris humble him. Either way. Mor: the biggest hypocrite of all time. I aM a DrEaMeR aNd I gOt OuT so did it ever occur to you that maybe you're not the only dreamer? You're not even going to try to save good people stuck under the Court of Nightmares or ask your High Lord to? You just write them off because you're the only good one? And you want to throw Nesta into the court of nightmares? You don't do shit when Cassian is harassing Nesta? You're a bitch and not a girl's girl at all. If there's ANYTHING women should be united on, it's creepy dudes. ESPECIALLY if one of them is your best friend. Amren: this bitch should've stayed dead after ACOWAR. How dare she talk to Nesta the way she did in ACOSF? She KNEW how much Nesta was hurting and she did it anyway. She's over 15 thousand years old. What a bitch. They're all part of an elitist establishment and the epitome of modern politics that needs to be destroyed. Oh, I'm sorry? Should I apologize for saying "bitch" when you're the one coming in hot on my anons? How about you get a life besides harassing people who disagree with you first?

Hello, today I had a talk with someone who told me about how Elaine's powers are similar to CC's the mystics. How powers are necessary, darkness and light diminishes them. I must admit that I have only read the Acotar saga, but since I think you may have read the other sagas, you can answer my question. Because if her powers of vision needs the darkness how it could influence Elain to begin to renounce the light and move more into the darkness
Hello! I'm a bit shaky with CC as it is, but I'll try to recall what I can. I don't think Elain is a mystic at all, at least canonically. She hasn't shown that side of powers to the full extent that CC does. CC has separated all the psychic powers into different categories. The Oracle has a gift for foresight and seems like a different race, described as being Sphinxes. Witches are known to have seers and necromancers, while mystics travel from world to world.
Mystics need a fire sprite with them to help navigate when they go into Hel, as another form of protection. They have not shown they have the gift of foresight, considering they spent a lot of time trying to search for where Bryce is.
We have seen Elain locate the suriel, so it might be another Mandela-like effect where it's similar but different, since ACOTAR and CC are different worlds. But what I do find interesting is that her mate's father seems to possess a similar ability.
Rhys’s eyes had gone distant for a moment, and I knew Amren was on her way, the Book in tow. To help Nesta track that Cauldron—or try to. He could explain to Mor. He’d only known I was gone after the battle stopped—when he realized Mor had been fighting. And that I was not at the camp anymore. He’d just reached Elain’s tent when Helion sent word he’d found me. Using whatever gift he possessed that allowed him to sense such things. And was bringing me back. Vague, brief details.
Also, considering that Elain immediately had a vision after her mate, who happens to be the heir of the Day Court, felt her through their bond, tells me that she needs the opposite for her powers.
Elain's powers go dormant when Lucien stopped coming around, mirroring Nessian. Nesta knows she still has her powers but has not been able to properly channel them until she was with Cassian.
She didn't Make her apartment into a home, but she did Make the House of Wind as a friend. Nesta also Made her weapons when Cassian brought her to a blacksmith, and Cassian oversaw her training to where her silver flames become part of the attack. It wasn't until after her bond snapped that she Made the charms of the bracelets.
Feyre too needed Rhysand to help navigate her daemati powers, as that seems to be a closely guarded secret that only those who are aware of them can guard themselves against.
Is it also much of a coincidence that Elain expressed that she wishes to get reacquainted with her powers when we know Lucien does come up to Velaris to meet with Rhys privately regarding Tamlin?
So, saying that her visions need darkness is canonically false, considering that her powers started getting more coherent and stronger whenever her Day Court heir mate is around. They became so strong that Azriel picked up on what they were after it happened, even though Feyre figured out what they were but didn't know their name.
When he isn't there, her mind resembles a garden in need of sunlight. When it became time that she needed it, she said she needed to get acquainted with her powers. A shadowsinger did nothing but deter her from helping, even getting her powers back. And she still cried and was scared when Feyre was close to dying, when she could have foreseen an outcome.
On top of that, Lucien has shown to be just as psychically inclined as she is. Instances include him warning Feyre not to stab him in the back in ACOTAR, which played out in ACOWAR. He knew when and where the big battle would occur, allowing them to come in last minute with two armies. He also told Tamlin that he'll be expecting Rhys in ACOSAF, and he even opened the door before Cassian knocked in ACOSF.
Az likes to help with things he knows, such as teaching Feyre how to fly while understanding the mental blocks she may face from learning too late, and helping Gwyn learn more about daggers and what she is doing wrong with cutting the ribbon.
His shadows do tend to disappear when Elain is around, so I guess he can't help her when his main source of those powers, which people love to connect them together with, doesn't want to be around her.

My eyes were bleeding after putting together the above post yesterday, staring at the screen so long, so I didn't add any thoughts to it all.
But that man......
Every single line with Lucien is categorized in one of a few ways.
He's either sarcastic, sassy or witty.
He speaks up in bravery when others can't / won't do it for themselves. There are multiple examples of this in ACOTAR where he tells the Attor to burn in Hell for Tamlin (it literally says "Lucien replied for Tamlin). He spits at the feet of the most powerful High Lord in the history of Prythian and tells him to watch his mouth when he threatens his mother. He stood up to Amarantha on multiple occasions and was punished every single time. He tried to stand up for Feyre even though Tamlin punished him for it.
However, he knows when to keep his mouth shut in order to show respect when it's necessary. Think about it. Tamlin, Rhys, Amarantha, knowing what they had done or could do to him, he still stood his ground and spoke his mind as much as possible.
Yet with Amren, Nesta, Az, and Graysen, he kept his mouth shut. Nesta probably deserved to be told off for the way she treated Lucien around Elain yet he never said anything to her. I'm guessing Lucien suspects something is going on with Az especially because Az can't seem to stop himself from acting moody whenever Lucien's name is mentioned (I doubt he's any better when they're face to face) yet Lucien hasn't called him out. He's never done anything to Graysen even knowing his identity versus Cassian who wants Tomas's name to hunt him down.
He's willing to let go of old prejudices. How quickly, after learning the NC wasn't his enemy, was he going out of his way to make himself useful to the IC? Asking if he might offer advice in the upcoming High Lords meeting, offering to do research, offering to look over the maps, offering to find Vassa.
He's loving to his friends. Even knowing Feyre was hiding something, he still went out of his way to comfort her when he thought she was having a nightmare. Knowing she just destroyed the court that was his home, he still ensured she was warm by giving her his jacket while he was left shivering. He speaks highly of his friend at Dawn Court. He speaks highly of Vassa. He speaks highly of Jurian, expressing gratitude for him. Tamlin abused him yet he's still going out of his way to be there for him, as Tamlin once did for him.
People love trying to spin it as if he's got a thing for Vassa but the truth is, he' just openly expresses affection for those that are important to him. He wasn't blushing over his feelings for Vassa but blushing because Feyre was making it out to be something it wasn't while in front of his mate.
He embodies the "brave, strong, protector / provider" type: he hunts, he fishes, he camps, he rides horses, he can be a warrior when it's necessary, he talks sports with the group. But he's also a distinguished gentlemen: he's well dressed, well spoken, polite, refined, appreciates quality, etc.
And he is intelligent. Feyre is constantly noting how he's always observing, calculating, watching, thinking. Rhys even shows approval for Lucien's plans and ideas. Rhys, the king of schemes, acknowledges Lucien to be clever like a fox. Finally getting his POV is going to be the most exciting thing ever.
He is the son of a powerful mother from Autumn and the son of a High Lord from a different court.
He is nothing but respectful to Elain. He's a bit awkward around her which I find to be adorable because he's so uncertain as to how to approach this female he's so drawn to, who almost makes him lose control every time he's near, and who he's sure doesn't want him because she was in love with another man. He's giving her distance to figure out what she wants while subtly making it known that he's not given up. He brings her beautiful gifts and tries so hard to hide his longing and disappointment though it's evident to anyone looking.
SJM broke the mold with this one.

Just to make it clear for anyone reading this, although bookish made it perfectly clear already: arc and plot are not the same.
A character in a fantasy novel and a character in a contemporary novel can have the same arcs. ex. Both need to overcome (or at the very least learn how to healthily manage) their anxiety.
But their plots are going to be vastly different. The fantasy character would need to take their rightful place as ruler to defeat the bad guy and free their people while the contemporary character searches for their birth mother.
So yeah, Feyre’s romantic arc in ACOTAR2 was with Tamlin. Which means the trauma from UTM really affected their relationship to the point where it needed to be built up again. Throw in that she intended for a love triangle with villain!Rhys and the fact that the series was supposed to be A Tam Lane/Beauty and the Beast retelling all the way through, the arc stays the same, but the triangle ends with Feyre picking Tamlin. This only works if the plot she originally thought of stayed the same. It didn’t. She changed the plot to make it easier to change the endgame.
She did this with TOG. She admitted it. She literally said verbatim she kept trying to find a way to change the endgame, but it wasn’t working with the original story so she had to change the plot in order to do it. And if you read everything pre-Queen of Shadows (the first three books, the novellas, the short stories she released), the plot hinges on Dorian and Aelin together. In power, both politically and magically, which obviously leads to their romance (which started in the first book and was slowly developing from then). All the threads are there. Until she had to change the story to change the endgame. So then QOS, much like ACOMAF, and then EOS completely reset almost everything before it.
Hi anon! I'm not sure if you're the same anon who mentioned Sarah saying she added Rhys in or not but either way: welcome!
Yes, thank you. Arc=/= plot.
Again while I do have receipts for the changes in Throne of Glass, I am merely speculating that this means the original ACOTAR endgame was Feylin. And from what little we have, that makes sense: as I said in my other post, NestaxLucien was the original ship, not Nessian. Given Sarah has said Nessian was not a thing until she wrote the scene at the dinner table, this suggests that A) Cassian and Nesta meeting was not a part of the original plot of ACOTAR 2, indicating that ACOTAR 2 wasn't originally as heavily involved with the Night Court or the Inner Circle as ACOMAF was B) more of the plot was concentrated in the Spring Court, with enough of the plot occurring in the Spring Court for at least one Archeron sister to fall in love with a member of that court (Lucien).
But yes, the knowledge that Sarah changed the plot of ACOTAR 2 and wrote ACOMAF instead, along with the bits and pieces we know of ACOTAR 2 (such as Nesta and Lucien being endgame) do point towards it being more likely that Feyre was predominantly in the Spring Court in the original trilogy. If the romantic arc stayed the same, but Feyre spent more of her time in the Spring Court, then putting two and two together it seems more likely that her romantic arc was with Tamlin.

Critical Reread - ACOTAR Chapter 4
Join me on a reread of A Court of Thorns and Roses
Chapter 4
Feyre meets a beast.
“The beast had to be as large as a horse, and while his body was somewhat feline, his head was distinctly wolfish. I didn’t know what to make of the curled, elk-like horns that protruded from his head. But lion or hound or elk, there was no doubting the damage his black, daggerlike claws and yellow fangs could inflict.”
I'll be honest I just kind of pictured a blur of beast-like features for Tamlin's beast form, but now that I'm looking at some fan art I get the idea of what she was going for much better. Do we get better descriptions later?
“But it was another word that echoed through me: Faerie.”
I'm curious why she thinks this when she didn't note anything about Andras? Maybe Tamlin's unleashed his power and she can just feel it? Is there a distinction between faeries and other magical creatures or is Faerie shorthand for all of magical kind?
“I had vague memories of being read the Treaty during my childhood lessons, but could recall nothing about wolves.”
I just think the humans would have this treaty top of mind if they live on the border and are terrified of the fae. Wouldn't it be really important that everyone uphold the treaty, so the fae don't have reason to retaliate?
“He blinked and glanced at my sisters, then back at me, at my thinness—no doubt seeing only frailness instead. “Surely you lie to save them.”
Come on Tim Tam. Of course it's the girl who just tried to stab you and is now bargaining with you. Not one of the three people huddled in the corner crying.
“Not me, because Nesta had always known and hated that she and I were two sides of the same coin, and that I could fight my own battles.”
I think this line gives us another hint that Feyre doesn't see herself as a perfect angel that can do no wrong, even if that's what the narrative is more or less telling us. She believes she has the same capacity for awfulness that her sister does. I would like to see more of that though.
“Most of you mortals have chosen to forget that part of the Treaty,” he said, “which makes punishing you far more enjoyable.”
Why are mortals in this world so dumb?!? You should definitely remember the parts of the treaty that can get you killed.
“You murdered my friend,” the beast snarled. “Murdered him, skinned his corpse, sold it at the market, and then said he deserved it, and yet you have the nerve to question my generosity?” How typically human, he seemed to silently add.”
I don't think kidnapping someone is particularly generous.
“Faeries couldn’t lie, but they could omit information.”
Literally the third time this chapter that we are told faeries can't lie. That definitely means it's true, right?
“But in going with him, I would be breaking the most important promise I’d ever made. Surely it trumped an ancient treaty that I hadn’t even signed.”
Come on Feyre, that's not how political treaties work.
“Whatever you do,” I said quietly, “don’t marry Tomas Mandray. His father beats his wife, and none of his sons do anything to stop it.” Nesta’s eyes widened, but I added, “Bruises are harder to conceal than poverty.”
She really could have told Nesta that sooner.
“You were always too good for here, Feyre. Too good for us, too good for everyone.” He squeezed my hands. “If you ever escape, ever convince them that you’ve paid the debt, don’t return.”
She's certainly too good for her family, but it's interesting that he says she's too good "for here" when she seems to fit in there best of all of them and likely would not be happy with a high society lifestyle.
“You go somewhere new—and you make a name for yourself.”
And she really fucking does.

thoughts while/after reading a court of wings and ruin for the first time
I sped through this book so I didn't really write much down as I was reading so these are thoughts after I read the first half and then once I finished the rest
first half, chapters 1-32
italics is stuff I've added after finishing the book
I love lucien so much I feel bad that feyre was using him for her schemes but also I love her liike she's so sneaky. even if it didn't work out as planned
'he's a different breed' made me laugh
so a faerie's mate being a human is a thing? that's weird/interesting/idk
ianthe die challenge (I won)
I was wondering why tf feyre's power was so low bc she's supposed to be strong as fuck. I was like um ?
lucien and feyre leaving together!! I kinda knew it was gonna happen bc in the recap vid of mist and fury that i watched she was like 'lucien would get on well with rhys' group wink wink' but also like, it was obvious anyways - elain is his mate, lucien has clearly been a bit iffy about the way tamlin has done things
made me sad that feyre wasn't just straight up like yeah lucien you should come with me like I get it but also :(
lucien and feyre travelling together for a bit was cool I love their dynamic a lot
lucien and nesta's first dinner with everyone is my fave like both of them slowly realising that the vibes are fun and being kinda surprised
amren being stuck teaching nesta is funny, I feel like they're a good duo
are we gonna get an eris is actually a good guy story bc I am here for it idk, I'm very intrigued
so everyone knows that cassian and nesta are mates right they just for whatever reason won't just say it? or is this vibe purely bc he broke his promise or whatever? surely not
azriel being all soft with elain is so cute wait. but also her and lucien would be cute too and idk UGH
nesta and elain had the potential to really irritate me but they haven't been too bad actually. I'm intrigued by whatever is going on with nesta. elain being a seer is a bit less fun bc that's not massively my vibe but it's fine. also I feel like the second she starting being cryptic like she was having visions it was kinda obvious she was some kind of psychic
it's almost comical how non-evil rhys is like wdym he has a library for abused women like okay sarah we get it he's actually very nice under that bad boy exterior
current ranking? lucien > amren > rhys > azriel > cassian > feyre > mor > nesta > elain
second half, chapter 33-end
I teared up way too many times and lowkey can't remember them all but this some - feyre being like that's why luciens mum loves him so much, them all holding hands before the final battle, the bone carver looking at freyre before dying, tamlin telling feyre to be happy, amren leaving
I wish lucien wasn't gone for like half the book
very mixed feelings about tamlin like fuck him fr he's clearly got Issues but also him being there to help and help bring rhys back was very sweet
and also I feel bad for tamlin but I struggle to feel THAT bad in terms of like am I supposed to care that feyre ruined the trust he had with his ppl bc I don't. also he was so twatty during the meeting like omg how embarrassing
kinda need to know more about eris idk like am I supposed to like him or not I still don't really know
tbh I thought lucien was just more tan than his brothers bc the spring court gets a bit more sun than the autumn one 😭
I was worried that all the battling going on in the book would bore the shit out of me but for the most part I was really into it
what is the deal with lucien, elain and azriel like is elain gonna say fuck the bond and get with az? I could be swayed to root for either one of them tbh. azriel seems to be better for her so far tho, like he knows how to be there for her
I stg after the last book I was like damn where are the gay ppl and this book was like HERE are the gay ppl. not that this is like rep central but yknow
kinda don't know how I feel about mor not telling at least azriel idk bc part of me is like if you just tell him and be open I'm sure it'll be a bit awkward (especailly since you waited 500 years to do it instead of telling him ages ago) at first but in the long run it'll be way better and maybe he'll even understand why it was hard for her to tell him. and also everyone else would obvs be supportive of her. but also maybe az is the weird one for not just getting the hint and leaving her alone like if it was gonna happen by now it would have happened and the fact he's soooo protective of her still, in a way that shows how he truly feels, is like okay bro maybe leave her alone
new ranking? rhys > lucien > azriel > cassian > feyre > mor > nesta > elain? idfk
there was a lot of names to remember and idk I defo got most of them down but some of them I'm like idk who you are I'm gonna be real. and miryam etc, I'm still not 100% clear on their story but honeslty it's fine, I understood it enough to not get too confused. I'll pay more attention if/when I reread
low-key feel like either rhys or amren (preferably amren) stayed gone like idk, both of them leaving/dying only to be brought back kinda takes something out of it I want STAKES sarah kill someone
