Part 3 of: @justweirddino sending in funny and accurate asks.
As always I have put transcripts in the alt image descriptions.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Gold and Silver twins probs have a massive list of enemies and vengances they want resolve, but they're so absent-minded that they frequently forget just why they dont like that person/what they did. They def find their own names among their "black book" of enemies and are just puzzled.
They haven't unlocked his friendship events yet. Gotta feed and talk to Macaque everyday like a Stardew Valley npc before he unloads his trauma.
MK is willing to use the Staff if it means conflict resolution. He will use it to threaten others to be nice.
Oh gosh, I love the idea of Huntsman having legit rizz, but it completely flies over Sandy's head. FIshman is sweet but damn he bad at responding to obvious romantic signs. X3
Wukong saw glowsticks become a thing and would spend ages trying to figure out How. Why stick glow when cracked/bended? Why no heat? Why did people scream when he tried drinking the yucky liquid inside at the discotech? He did't have his Staff handy for their introduction, so the second the Staff is no longer sealing DBK, Wukong tries cracking the Staff to see if it glows. He breaks his knee instead. Macaque laughed while MK was just puzzled Why.
The second Macaque is gone; Wukong turns into a mega-bachelor again. Hyper impulsive, binge-watching Monkey Cop, eating nothing but peaches and takeout. The second Mac gets back from the moon, its like walking into a house after a frat party. He def yells at Wukong to clean up his mess.
Nudity is canon. Wukong busted out the furnace naked cus it burned his clothes off.
DEFINETELY. Wukong is gotdang short already (apparently less than 1.3m/4.26 ft in the book), and Macaque being just a little taller would get so on his nerves! XD Even if both monkeys (unglamoured) reach about the height of a teenager, Wukong is def wearing lifted shoes. Macaque taunts him about it endlessly.
Oh gosh, I have an idea for TMKATI-au in Chapter 3; where Pigsy and Tang are "whisper-arguing" in the kitchen while Shadowpeach are in the restaurant sheltering from the rain.
Pigsy: "I'm not about to harbor a pair of shady demons just cus they look pathetic in the rain!" Tang, the one who brought them there: "Aww, c'mon Piggy!" *whispers* "They're having a kid and it looks like they got kicked out or something..." Pigsy: *annoyed snort* Macaque, hearing the convo cus ears: "...Wukong do you honestly believe this place is safe?" Wukong: "Uh yeah - I order from here all the time!" Macaque: *judgemental glare* Wukong, laughes nervously: "Haha...Ok. I'm not 100% sure. Honestly I was thinking about how we're gonna get some food... You're in a... vunerable condition and I want to make sure we're at atleast fed and warm before deciding anything major. You know... future-wise." Macaque: *sighs tiredly* Pigsy & Tang, eavesdropping via kitchen counter: *looks at one another* Tang: *gives puppy-dog eyes* Pigsy, conflicted growling: "Grr... OK FINE! They can stay for some dinner and maybe crash on the futon for a bit. But once the rain clears off, I'm kicking them out!"
(Pigsy procedes to not kick them out, and instead over the course of the late-evening meal decides to hire Wukong/let the two monkeys stay in the empty top floor of the building. He's bad at saying no to Tang and bad at turning away sad-looking rain-soaked monkeys.)
I always love these ask-ins, even if I ramble a little off-topic with the ideas they gave me! As always ty @justweirddino !
I put the slightly rauchier ones under read more.
Tumblr media
This one is 100% a line Tang has said aloud and in front of polite company without batting an eye. He has no shame.
Macaque and Wukong too. Gotta make sure anyone within striking distance knows that you're both taken. By eachother. Macaque says it to tease, Wukong says it as a warning.
And finally, an ask @justweirddino actually messaged me about ahead of time due to it being about a rather... spicy topic revovling around the immortal monkeys not understanding modern slang terms. Had to put it in two screenshot to fit.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
XD
Nezha has most modern slang downloaded into his brain by the time he gets to earth. Not to use, but to decipher.
Wukong is def the person to remember a random detail from a movie trailer from years ago and take what the trailer says at face value. Also the thought of him randomly declaring that a movie mom is a MILF, serious-faced as the others look at him like he grew three heads (again), is sending me XD

Ooo, I want to know how you could fix him!! I loved what you did with Macaque. It would be wonderful to see what you would to Pigsy!!
LMFAODAMWLKDAJAOI sorry this made me laugh a little jioadsmakl because of what i did to macaque i was like "oh they mean cursing him??" but THEN i figured out you meant characterization wise LMFKSALDSL
uhm! so for Pigsy, I'd want to write him on the basis of a single parent raising a child unexpectedly with no preparation. The financial strain while owning a restaurant, how that upends a few things, how he has to learn so many things very quickly.
I'd want to level that with some maybe...childhood expectations. Pigsy had a mother who taught him to cook (was it his mother? or father..i don't know my pigsy lore) ONE of his parents he was close to taught him the joy of cooking. He'd want to be close like that with MK. But he's not sure how to go about it. It's hard for him to show affection because he's a hardworker. He's had to maintain things, keep things going, not take crap from nobody. He's had to fight.
so softening those edges is what I'd do. I'd show the attempts Pigsy makes to get close to MK. like sitting down with him before closing up the restaurant one day when MK's like "I'm gonna be Monkey King's successor!" And Pigsy's like, "Kid...are you sure this is what you wanna do?"
MK's like, "Yeah! I love the Monkey King. This is awesome!"
But Pigsy's like, "MK...there's a lot about this we don't understand. Hell, we didn't know magic was real until you went and got that staff. We thought Monkey King was nothing but a legend!"
"But he's real, Pigsy. And he wants to train me! Aren't you proud?"
And Pigsy looks at MK with sad eyes because MK should know Pigsy is proud of him, but he hasn't told him that enough. He hasn't been honest or open enough. So he tries now, even if it's too late. "I've always...uh..." Clears his throat, tries again. "I've always been proud of you, kid. There ain't nothin' you can't do."
MK is touched by this, and he smiles, eyes glowing with a magic he's not fully aware of yet. "Then...you'll let me train with Monkey King?"
"MK, you're an adult. You can do what ya want. But...it can't get in the way of your job, alright? That's how you make a livin'."
"That's fair. Thanks Dadsy!"
And off MK goes, up the stairs to his place. It's his turn to lock up, but Pigsy will handle it this time.
Pigsy just running his hand down his face, trying to figure out what he's going to do now that this is happening. He didn't have the heart to tell MK that this was probably a bad idea. He doesn't want to stomp on MK's dreams.
He just wants to protect him. And he's not sure if the Monkey King will do that. Probably not with how things went with the Demon Bull King.
So Pigsy prepares himself for another unexpected event, but that's just what being a parent is. He'll follow MK into this. He'll make sure he's safe. Because that's what he's been doing since MK showed up on his doorstep twenty-two years ago, and dammit, he's not stopping anytime soon.

Also uh

(which this show is destroying /j)
HERE WE GO HERE WE GO
I’m gonna be killed this is it
MAN THIS THEME SON GAFTER ALL THAT
I am so freaking glad i didn’t watch this all at once, I’m so freaking glad i waited for the english dub THIS SHOW IS FREAKING INSANE RN
FLASHBACK TIME
OH YES LETS FREAKING GO
TRIPITAKA TANG SANZANG VOICED BY TANG YEAH YOU BET HAHA SCREMS
“To split the fire you need to harmonize ur energies” HAHAH THEY COULD NOT BE MORE DIFFERENT I’M WHEEZINGBSFDL;MAWE
TRIPTIAKA’S SHOES ARE INCREDIBLE I’M YELLINGSDBF;LAWME
“this is kinda easier than i thought it would be” MONKEY KING PLEASE
THE FIRE COMING AT HIM
HAHA IT’S ONLY ONE OF THE ONLY THING STHAT EVER HURT HIM AHAHA YEAH OH MAN OH MAN
OH HE TRIPPED
HE TRIPPED
OH MAN
THAT FIRE EFFECTS HIM WAY MORE THAN IT DOES THE OTHERS HE’S MORE PWOERFUL THAN DBK AND THIS
OH MAN
AND THE WAY THEY’RE ALL YELLING AT HIM |;A;/
WUKONG YOU FOOOOOOL
noooo
noooooo
oH NOOOOO
OH NO
THAT IS WHAT
OH NO
BUDDY
YUP
THAT EXPAINS A LOT
THE UH
HAHA
WAY TO COMMUNICATE AO LIE WAY TO LET PEOPLE KNOW UH
OH MAN
THIS EXPLAINS A LOT
YEAH SO
UH
HOW’D HE NOT DIE IS MY QUESTION
HAHAHAHHAHA
SO MEI JUST GREW UP WITH THAT IN HER
SHE REALLY IS THE REINCARNATION OF UH
WOW WE’RE REALLY DOING THIS HUH AHAHAHAHHAHA I’M SCREAMING
I LOVE NEZHA AND WUKONG’S LITTLE DYNAMIC THO
THAT MY FRIENDS HAS THE ENERGY OF LIKE LAID BACK DAD AND HIGH STRUNG TOTALLY NOT ADOPTED SON GB;LAKSDMFWE THEY REALLY ARE JUST BUDDIES I LOVE THEM
Not over the fact Wukong slipped up, everyone yelled at him, and he got hit by the fire, tripped, got hit again (the fire that is the only thing to every hit him) and like, no one even… cared? I mean I know he’s the monkey king, I know he’s immortal x7 but like
dang
Ao Lie Bai Longma tho, he took a brunt of one for sure and Tripitaka’s concerned about him instantly
and the group hug with the jttw crew that’s in the background and Wukong’s just… not in it. He doesn’t even feel like he’s part of the group I’m actually gonna cry, that’s his family and they didn’t even seem to care beyond yelling at him
WOW I’M
YEAH NO WONDER WUKONG DOESN’T LET PEOPLE KNOW HE’S HURT, NO ONE DOES ANYTHING BUT YELL AT HIM FOR IT UH
HAHA
WOW
Like if hhh
MAN
If Wukong were in Bai Longma’s position, and jumped in front of Tripitiaka, no one would have batted an eye because that’s his job, that’s what he’s supposed to do. He could be hurt, hide it and they wouldn’t acknowledge it, and he certainly wouldn’t get praise cause that’s just what’s expected of him. Put him in another position, slips up, peoples lives are at stake, makes sense they’d startle, but like, if he ever slips up, shows he’s hurt, what does he get? Yelling. Scolding, anger. LIKE NO WONDER HE DOESN’T COMMUNICATE NO FREAKING WONDER ALL HE DOES IS TRY TO PROTECT MK, HE’S USED TO PEOPLE YELLING AT HIM FOR ANYTHING ELSE I’M
HECK
OKAY I REALLY NEED TO MOVE ON NOPE PAUSED AGAIN
THE WAY “YOU DID IT MASTER! WE KNEW YOU COULD!” AND THEY HUG HIM AND WUKONG LOOKS AT THEM FROM A DISTANCE, WITH THIS SMILE, THIS STUPID SAD KINDA HAPPY SAD SMILE, THE SMILE IS JUST AAAAAAAAA IT’S HE LOVES HIS LITTLE FAM BUT HE’S NOT EVEN PART OF IT I’M GONNA SCREAM

GOSH DANG
I’M HOLDING THEM BOTH SO GENTLY
WUKONG LOOKIN GSURPRISED
“Lets see if my aim is as good as it used to be”
Wukong: AHA HOW BOUT WE DON’T—
HE DOESN’T TRUST THAT AT ALLGBSDLKFMAWE
MANS LOOKED ACTIVELY NERVOUS

IN THE FRAME THING
AND HE LOOKS DOWN AT BOTH WRISTS
NOT THE BONE SIDE
BUT BOTH WRISTS WHERE THEY WERE
AND HE COUDL SEE THEY WERE GONE
WHICH MEANS HE COULD CONSTANTLY SEE AND FEEL THEM ON HIM THIS ENTIRE TIME
OH GOSH MEI THO
HERE WE MOTHERFREAKING GO
Ngl
I get the feeling Wukong was gonna try and snatch the fire and use it himself instead of it going to Mei judging from the way he was jumping directly in uh
Fire and monkey don’t mix
that would of uh
hm
interesting Wukong you really were ready to die huh
right we’ll lets see how this goes
WELL ALSO THERE’S NO WAY HE DOESN’T KNOW NOW
THAT MEI IS BAI LONGMA’S REINCARNATION
HAHAHAHAH THAT’S GONNA BE FUN
THEY’RE PROBABLY NOT GONNA ADDRESS IT BUT BOY I WISH THEY WOULD
AW MK
BUDDY
I’M GONNA CRY HE’S SO WORRIED
THE WAY
THEY WAY MK
TRIES REACHING FOR HER ANYWAYS
WUKONG SNATCHING HIM AND GETTING HIM OUT OF THE WAY BECAUSE HEY, FIRE IS STILL MONKEY KING AND BY ASSOCIATION MONKIE KID’S BIG OL WEAKNESS
Nezha really has the worst bedside manner
Nezha: so, bad news. Yyou’re gonna die
Mei: WHAT
I’M CRYGNDSKFAMWOE
MK’S CONCNERN, WUKONG DOES NOT LOOK LIKE HE’S INTERESTED IN LETTING THAT HAPPEN
THE WAY WUKONG ZERO’S IN ON MACAQUE
YOU
AND MACAQUE JUST LIKE AH I NEED TO RUN RIGHT NOW
AND WUKONG REACHING INTO THE
REACHING INTO THE SHADOWS AND TEARING HIM BACK OUT
HAHA
WOW
YEAH
YOU DONE SCREWED UP MACCY BOY
THE WAY THAT MACAQUE TRIES TO RATIONALIZE
HE REALLY IS JUST
REALLY STUPID
HE HAS NO IDEA
HE’S JUST
HE JUST DOES STUFF WITHOUT THINKING
HE HAS NO THOUGHT PROCESS
HE CANNOT SEE WHAT CONSEQUENCES MIGHT COME AND WHEN THEY DO TRIES TO ABSOLVE HIMSELF FROM SAID CONSEQUENCES DESPITE HIS HAND IN MAKING THEM HAPPEN
THIS IS WHY HE BLAMES WUKONG FOR LITERALLY ANYTHING, HE JUST CANNOT RATIONALIZE IN HIS HEAD THAT HE MAKES ANYTHING BAD HAPPEN EVER, HE’S ALWAYS THE VICTUM I SWEAR I’M GONNA DRAG HIM TO THE UNDERWORLD MYSELF BGSDLKFMAWOE
a
ah
THE WHOLE ITS THE
IT’S THE
Dang
Like the whole
shoot man that’s
heck
Wukong goes to punch him, right? And Macaque just, turns his head away, but not to shield his injured eye, but the one he’s got left cause he was genuinely like “ah, he’s going to take my other eye” HOLY CRAP MY GUY
shoulda punched him in the face
COME ON TANG YOU JUST WATCHED THIS GUY HURT BOTH OF YOUR KIDS
STOP BEING SO NICE AAAA
I’m one to talk LOL
MAN THO
ACK
THE WAY TAHT WUKONG ACTUALLY STOPS THE MOMENT HE HEARS TANG’S VOICE THO
MAN
ALSO TANG YOU LITERALLY CANT’ TAKE RESPONCIBLITY FOR THIS PLEASE
I mean Macaque’s been through a lot, i get not wanting to see anyone get hurt but MAN holy crap has he wrecked a lot of stuff YIKES AND REALLY HARMED UR KIDS TANG
OH FREAKING NO
TRIGGER WORD
DESTINY
AND NOW WUKONG’S HORROR, PANIC, PARANOIA OF PLAYING RIGHT INTO HER HANDS RIGHT ON HIS FACE
JUST DROPS HIM LIKE AN EMPTY SODA CAN GBDSLKAFMAWE
Like,
hhhh
MAN I HAVE WAY TOO MANY THOUGHTS RN
You ever think about the fact that Wukong maybe has gotten so used to people yelling at him and telling him he’s wrong that he genuinely can’t tell what action is truly the worst or not right because they respond the same way regardless?
ANYWAY THO UH
THANKS TO MK FOR THE BREATH OF FRESH AIR
THE FACT THAT MEI HASN’T EVEN MOVED YET BGLKDFMAE I AM SO FREAKING CONCERNED
also the fact Macaque hasn’t tried to run away again that’s getting to me
as long as you stay away from Mk i’ll be happy
AH HA
YEAH
THIS IS GOING WELL
THIS IS GOING GREAT
THE WAY THEY’RE ALL SHEILDING EACH OTHER
the way we get a close up on mac’s face while Wukong explains his plan
he really has no idea what’s going on also YEAH WUKONG’S LACK OF SELF-PRESERVATION MAKES AN APPEARANCE
YEAH THAT ISN’T A GOOD PLAN BUT LIKE
UH
IT’S LITERALLY THE ONLY ONE THEY HAD
YES THEY COULD HAVE DISCUSSED IT MORE AND MAYBE COME UP WITH A BETTER ONE
HHH
WUKONG *SHAKES HIM* I DON’T KNOW HOW Y’ALL COULD HAVE MADE THIS WORK BETTER BUT LIKE, IF YOU’D JUST COMMUNICATE YOU COULD HAVE FREAKING AT LEAST BEEN ON THE SAME PAGE BUT HE’S SO FREAKING USED TO FIGURING OUT STUFF ON HIS OWN I’M GONNA SCREAM
The way Mei yells at him
“Time and time again I’ve watched you hurt” yeah wow heck
he really just
gets yelled at every time and you know what
yeah
crap man
no matter what he does it ends in him getting yelled at
understandable sometimes but no wonder he gets it wrong so much
ALSO I KEEP TALKING ABOUT HOW MEI WATCHES WHAT HAPPENES TO MK BUT STEPS BACK A BIT TO LET HIM FIGURE STUFF OUT AND SUPPORT HIM BUT HHH
OH MAN I WASN’T EXPECTING THEM TO ACTAULLY BRING IT UP I’M GONNA SCREAM
WUKONG’S FACE
H
THE WAY MACAQUE HASN’T LEFT THO
HE HASN’T TRIED TO LEAVE
THIS IS
WE HAVEN’T SEEN THIS FROM MACAQUE BEFORE THIS IS THE FIRST TIEM HE HASN’T ACTED OUT OF SELF-INTEREST HE REALLY IS JUST STANDING THERE WATCHING THIS UNFOLD
AND THE WAY MK’S LIKE “NOT A CHANCE GUYS I’M NOT LEAVING MY BEST FRIEND”
AND THEN WUKONG EITHER GLANCES BACK AT MACAQUE OR MK
AND THE WAY MACAQUE LOOKS
I’m telling ya y’alls Wukong and Macaque were just best friends way back in the day I’m calling it now and hh
I’M FINE
“DON’T YOU REALIZE YOU’RE HURTING THE PEOPLE YOU CARE ABOUT THE MOST?”
hooooooo boy
had to go back to that cause uh
yeah
wow
really calling this monkey out on that one, which is rough, because he really is trying his hardest and its just… never right
Except it has the potential to be with this group because they listen
he’s just…
not used to that
dang
heck
okay
I can move on
probably
oh man
and the fact she’s just also basically saying “we care about you” um
we care about you and you’re hurting us
yeah
I’M IN PAIN GUYS
FR
I WAS NOT EXPECTING THEM TO ADDRESS ALL THIS AND HAVE THIS ACTUALLY SAID
IV’E BEEN TALKING ABOTU THIS FOR AGES AND THERE SHE IS SAYING IT ALL
HOLY CRAP
ah tHERE WE GO
FINALLY
BYE MACAQUE
HAHAHAHHAHA
The fact that Mk still actually hoped he’d stay to help even after LITERALLY GETTING THE CRAP BEATEN OUT OF HIM BY HIM and actually looked kinda… hurt about it, but jsut squeezed his eyes shut, cause expected, and turned to do the thing whatever thing he’s about to do haha
oh man
Mk: we’re heroes
Macaque: not me bud PEACE OUT
No fr tho I don’t think Macaque views himself as someone who’s even capable of being a hero. it’s so funny how he’s so mad at Wukong for possibly “abandoning” him and getting all that power without him, but at the same time any time he’s presented with a chance to do something different, to change like wukong did, he nopes out. I don’t think macaque really wants power so much as he just… wants someone?? To care about him?? I dunno my dude, he’s an idiot whatever the case with truama and he needs to stay away from Mk because neither of them are really good for each other right now and get some freaking therapy away from this kid that he uses as a punching bag
AA TOO MANY THOUGHTS LETS KEEP GOING MY BRAIN IS SCATTERED SO NONE OF HTIS IS GONNA MAKE SENSE
EVERYONE TELLING HIM TO LEAVE AND MK REFUSING BECAUSE THIS KID WILL LITERALLY DESTROY HIMSELF BEFORE HE ABANDONS ANYONE
see this is why I’m an Mk kinnie BGLKA;M;OFE BUT ALSO A WUKONG KINNIE BECAUSE I’M GREAT AT COMMUNICATING /J
THE WAY WUKONG REACHES FOR HIM
OH NO THAT’S GONNA HURT HIM
OH NOOOO
OH NOOO BUDDYYYY
MK
HECK IT’S BURNING HIM HIS JACKET IS SINGED
AND HE’S JUST
“I know you’re upset, and that’s okay—“ I’M GONNA START CRYING??
WAIT I JUST REALIZED
I JUST REALIZED
MY POST
THIS IS MY POST THE WHOLE
MEI ALWAYS CATCHES MK AND WALKS HIM THROUGH STUFF UNTIL HE’S READY AND NEVER LEAVES HIM
AND I TALKED ABOUT “I WONDER WHAT WILL HAPPEN IF MK’S PUT IN THE SUPPORT POSITION RATHER THAN MEI” AND HE IS
RIGHT HERE
AND HE’S NOT LEAVING, NOT EVEN BACKING AWAY, HE’S MOVING FORWARD THROUGH LITERAL ACTUAL FIRE AND TALKIGN TO HER YOU GUYS I’M GOING TO FREAKING SOB I SWEAR
THE WAY HIS CLOTHES ARE BURNIGN AWAY
I’M GONNA START CRYING
THE
THEY HUG
THEY DID THE HUG THING
THE YOU ALWAYS HAVE MY BACK
WE WILL FIGURE THIS OUT
I’M GONNA START SOBBING
THE HUG Y’ALL THE HUG TO BRING HER BACK
also this is a sidebar totally messing with the intense moment bUT FINALLY THE LIPSTICK HAS BEEN BURNED AWAY PRAISE THE CELESTIALS WE’RE FREE FROM THE HORRID THING— /hj
MAN GBSDA;LKFMAWOE
I really love the fact that the MK crew is like YEEEAAH WE KNEW YOU COULD DO IT! because through everything they support each other and as long as they do that, things turn out okay (and i mean i know Mei’s gonna push him away and she’s gonna run away for fear of hurting them but like bgdls;kfae) AND THE WAY NEZHA AND WUKONG LOOK SO SURPRISED, SO SHAKEN, LIKE THEY CAN’T IMAGINE WHAT SUPPORTING ANOTHER PERSON REALLY DOES
Wukong’s face
Wukong’s first time really seeing the crew rely on each other, love each other, hug each other, he sees Mk support his friends with everything he has and them support him back and that is what he looks like
You guys this monkey is not okay
I’m gonna start sobbing
HUGS MK BACK
STARTS CRYING
MEI PLEASE
YEAH PUSH
NO
ARGH SHE’S GONNA RUN AWAY
 OHHH
OHH MAN
OH MAN
THE
FIRST OFF, CLASSIC I DON’T WANNA HURT YOU SO I’M GONNA DISTANCE MYSELF FROM YOU *coughs and looks at Wukong* HAPPENIGN THERE IS FIRE (pun intended) AND I LOVE IT WITH MY ENTIRE SOUL THATS ONE OF THE BEST TROPES
AND UH
I STRAIGHT UP AM CLOSE TO CRYING FR RIGHT NOW AT THE WAY MK REACHES FOR HER AND TRIES TO JUMP, BUT CAN’T DO IT CAUSE HE’S BEEN BEATEN INTO THE GROUND AND WALKED THROUGH THE ONE THING THAT CAN ACTUALLY REALLY REALLY HURT SOMEONE WITH MONKEY KING’S POWERS
AND HE CAN’T EVEN
STAND
I’M GONNA CRY Y’ALLS
THE WAY THAT THEY’RE ALL HOLDING HIM
Not a lot of shows are comfortable or even are good at writing the emotional stuff, the comfort, the holding each other, the emotional baggage, i am so happy this show keeps giving me everything i want and more I love this show fr y’alls
Monkey King feeling real bad about this
Guilt’s rough my guy
Wukong’s gonna do something stupid isn’t he
ohhh no
“cant’ you see you’re hurting the people that care about ou the most” great way to not hurt people (except it does hurt them) LEAVE
GUESS WHAT I THINK THE MONKEY’S GONNA DO
LEAVE
HE’S GONNA LEAVE ISN’T HE
HE’S GONNA LEAVE AND POSSIBLY TRY AND GO FACE THE LADY BONE DEMON ON HIS OWN BECAUSE WELCOME BACK TO WUKONG’S MIND, WEHENVER HE’S AROUND SOMEONE HE HURTS THEM, WHY DOES HE EVER LET HIMSELF STAY AROUND PEOPLE WHEN ALL HE DOES IS HURT AND HARM THEM RIGHT? BETTER TO JUST DO IT HIMSELF, ALONE, THAT WAY HE CAN’T HURT ANYONE RIGHT?
I CAN’T BELIEVE THEY’RE LEGIT GONNA DO THIS, IF THEY LEGIT DO THIS I’M GONNA FREAKING FLIP
also vocally out loud realized a minute ago that Red Son has yet to show up which means he’s probably gonna show up to mei and be like “fire powers, am i right?” and then BGALKSMFAWE I’M GONNA BE THRILLED IF THEY DO TAHT IT MEANS POSSIBLE MORE RED SON TIME IN THE NEXT SEASON AND MORE RED SON AND MEI BONDING I’LL LOSE MY MIND
okay now that i’ve dropped my dumb predictions LETS GO
KID CANT’ EVEN STAND
THE FACT NEZHA’S LIKE “WEIRD SHE HASN’T DIED YET”
I think it’d be neat if she has some uh… immunity to the Fire since its literally been part of her for her entire life. That would be freaking epic ngl
“y’know, for people not paying attention” I LOVE THEM ALL SO FREAKING MUCH GBB;LWKEMFOFE
OHHOHO I JUST REALIZED THE
THE PARALLEL OF THE FIRE BURNING AWAY HIS JACKET
TOOK ALL OF MEI
TAHT WAS A GIFT FROM MEI
AND THE FIRE TOOK EVERYTHING OF MEI, HER, HER GIFT TO HIM, HER SUPPORT, HER PRESENCE, EVERYTHING GONE
HAHAHAHA WOW I’M GONNA START SOBBING
WOW
ohhh man
the way Nezha’s talking, even saying “hey, maybe his plan wasn’t completely crazy”
and Wukong doesn’t even respond
he’s just…
standing there
(his tail is gone animation error but I’m choosing to assume he wrapped it around himself)
he is not okay uh
oh boy if you do the thing monkey…
Oh nooo
Wukong
buddy
don’t do this
AH YUP, HE’S DOING THIS
HE’S SHAKING
GUYS
HE DOES NOT
ACTUALLY THINK HE CAN DO THIS YOU GUYS HE’S SCARED OUT OF HIS MIND TO THE POINT OF SHAKING
GRABBING HIS ARM TO STOP IT SO THEY DON’T SEE
GUYS
GUSY HE’S NOT OKAY AT ALL
“If one more of my friends FLYS OFF today I’m gonna LOSE IT” YEAH THAT’S FAIR TWO LEFT CAUSE “I don’t wanna hurt you guys” BASICALLY I’M SHAKING BOTH OF THEM
They really both said “I don’t want to hurt you so I’m gonna leave” HUH, THEY REALLY DID THAT
THE WAY WUKONG SAYS ALL THAT THOUGH
“I need to stop dragging you into my fights” ONLY HE KINDA HASN’T?? LIKE THERE’S THE SUCCESSOR THING, BUT LIKE, HES TRIED SO HARD TO KEEP MK AWAY FROM THE REAL FIGHTS HE KNOWS ARE DANGEROUS AND THAT HE MIGHT NOT BE ABLE TO HANDLE, IT’S THESE VILLIANS THAT KEEP GOING OUT OF THEIR WAY TO PULL MK IN SOLEY BECAUSE HE’S ASSOCIATED WITH WUKONG
LIEK NO WONDER THIS MONKEY HAS ABSOLUTELY NO ONE
I’M
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
MK REALLY SAYING IF ANY OF OU LEAVE I’M GOING TO KILL YOU
THE WAY NEZHA BGL;KSAMFAWE
“Less… slim??” I LOVE HIM HE’S PART OF THE TEAM NOW PLEASE STAY HE’S INCREDIBLE
LOVE THE FACT MK’S JUST “NEZHA TELLS SOMETHING? SURE ACCEPT IT AS FACT HE’S FAM NOW SO WOO”
Mk just adopting dad figures, and siblings left and right HGL;AKMF;OAEW
WELCOME NEW SIB NEZHA, ENJOY UR STAY IN THIS CHAOTIC BUT SO SOMFT AND DEVOTED FAMILY WHO LOVE EACH OTHER SO VERY MUCH
Them truama beans are just drawn to Mk i guess, he’s just so freaking kind and forgiving and understanding regardless i’m going to cry
doesn’t put up with some crap when it crosses a line *looks at the monkeys* but he really is just open to letting anyone close if they’re willing to just try and I’m hh
yeah
its rough to be that person it really is but man
man
lays down
man
going after wukong

“Do you want a hug?” with Macaque (*^▽^*)
11. “Do you want a hug?”
Macaque had been hovering around the inside of the noodle shop for a good few hours. Moving from table to table, lingering in corners and shadows. Stepping out into the light whenever MK returned from a delivery, getting closer to the kid as he lightly antagonized him, although any teasing he did was instantly stopped by either a light glare from MK or a disapproving look from Pigsy.
It wasn’t any different than what the shadow monkey usually did most days. It wasn’t unusual to see him hanging around, close, but not quite there, seemingly content to remain on the outskirts of conversations and games.
Still though, Pigsy couldn’t help but feel like today’s hovering was a bit... odd.
He couldn’t quite put a finger on it, but something about the way Macaque had talked, the way he had kept glancing over at Pigsy, Tang, and MK (and Mei, when she’d arrived to chat with MK for a bit before heading to the arcade) throughout the day made Pigsy think that something, something was up.
He wasn’t sure what though. Macaque was notoriously hard to get a read on, and in most cases it was impossible to know what he was thinking, unless you got him deep enough into a conversation that he’d eventually spit out what he was thinking about without realizing it. (This was a fact the others took great advantage of when it came to communicating with him. They weren’t entirely sure if he knew how much he accidentally lets slip when deep in a conversation, but none of them are keen on telling him).
Still though, Pigsy was far too busy still dealing with the day’s customers to start up a conversation with the shadow monkey.
And so, Pigsy decides the logical course of action is to drag Macaque into the kitchen, and let him help out with making the noodles.
When there’s a small break between customers, he steps out from behind the counter, and walks over to where Macaque is currently leaning against the wall.
“Macaque.” He snaps his fingers in front of the monkey’s face to gain his attention, Macaque jumping at the sound. “Come with me.”
Macaque, surprisingly, follows Pigsy obediently into the kitchen. Pigsy wastes no time in handing Macaque a spoon, Macaque tilting his head in confusion.
“You’re gonna help me cook today.” Pigsy explains, and Macaque almost drops the spoon.
“Wh- Oh, no, you uh, don’t want me cooking.” Macaque said, taking a step back. “I may uh, be able to fry an egg or something but- noodles? No, I think that’s a good few levels above my cooking repertoire.”
“Well, you need to do something.” Pigsy said, “You can’t just keep hovering around the shop all day. You’re starting to creep some people out by just standing in the shadows doing nothing.”
“So? A little bit of creepiness isn’t going to harm anyone.” Macaque crosses his arms with a huff, and Pigsy raises a brow as he notices the monkey squeeze his own arms tighter than the nonchalant action required.
“...Do you want a hug?” Pigsy shifts gears, throwing the indirect approach to the side as he focuses on Macaque’s posture, the way he’s hunched over slightly, how low his tail hanging, not in a way that seems relaxed, but in a way that seems almost-
Sad.
Macaque notices Pigsy’s evaluation, if the way he straightens his posture and forces his tail into a happier position is any indication.
“...No.” He sets the spoon down on the counter beside him, and turns to start heading back to his position of leaning against the wall.
Pigsy stops him by placing a hand on his shoulder.
Macaque jumps at the sudden contact, and Pigsy lets out a hum of contemplation as the monkey leans back into the contact-
Which turns out to be a mistake, as Macaque’s ears twitch upon hearing the hum, and almost instantly the shadow monkey is intangible, Pigsy’s hand falling right through the darkness. Macaque proceeds to step forwards, sinking into the shadows below him, and reappearing on the other side of the noodle shop, his back against the wall, and pointedly not looking anywhere near Pigsy’s direction.
A new customer enters the store, stealing up Pigsy’s attention before he can even think of re-approaching the monkey.

Happy Birthday Winter!
Hey @winterpower98 it's your birthday! I really hope you enjoy this, I know I had a ton of fun writing it for you! Actor AU is one of my favorite AUs you've made and coming back to play around with it again was a blast and a half!
Painter MK cackled, taking the brushes filled with bright pink paint into his fists.
“Yes, yes!” He exclaimed, brushing them against his cheeks and bringing another to run up the center of his face. “The art is-OW! OW, THE ART IS IN MY EYE!”
“Cut!” The director yelled, bringing the entire film production to a halt in an instant. “Xiaotian, what happened?”
The young actor dropped the paintbrushes into the hands of a stage worker to rushed over to help him, one hand covering his right eye as he tried to keep himself from laughing. “I think some of it splashed when I waved the brush at my face. I guess the art really IS-”
“Don’t say it,” Heshang said from the other side of the set, doing his best not to join his co-star in laughter.
“-seeping into my pores!”
The entire cast and crew groaned as Xiaotian cackled again, with a few added ows, before another stage hand came by with a bottle of water.
~3…2…1~
“Uh…” Xiaojiao pulled, attempting to pull the prop sword from above her head out of the wall only to be met with… a lot more resistance than should probably be there. “UH…? It’s stuck?”
She stood, attempting to pull it out normally only to be met with just as much resistance.
“It’s stuck!” She laughed, out, bracing a foot on the wall with no change.
“Let me try,” General Ironclad, or rather Red in the costume of General Ironclad for the episode, offered, attempting to do the same with the exact same result as his co-star. “What did you use to hold this in place? Cement!?”
“It should have only been stuck in with force!” A stage hand yelled as Xiaotian and Heshang joined in, both failing to pull the sword out from the false wall and Heshang nearly toppling over backwards with his additional costume pieces.
“Whoever stuck that in there needs to be moved to making sure the safety equipment stays connected!” Xiaotian offered, watching as even more people tried to remove the sword. “That is not coming out.”
~3…2…1~
Heshang held Mo in his arms, waltzing around the set as he waited for places to be called for with the shockingly content feline in his arms.
~3…2…1~
“You are selling beautiful vegetables today?” Pigsy said, leaning over the the display to give an awkward smile to the disguised Spider Queen.
Tang looked over the produce from where he knelt, looking back up at his companion with a concerned and confused look. “Are you… a-are-PFT-FUCK.”
Everyone on set burst into laughter as Tang did, both of his fellow actors holding back from laughing themselves.
“Why is it this line!?” Tang yelled in frustration as he continued laughing. “It’s not a hard line! I wrote this line! Why do I keep laughing at the last word!?”
“Maybe if Ganglie wasn’t making goo-goo eyes at me you’d keep straight face,” Zhi-Zhu Jing managed to get out through her laughter.
“That’d be the only thing straight about me.”
~3…2…1~
Dicky Cheung, or the actual Sun Wukong disguised as a human actor in full costume of himself, took a running leap and jumped onto the counter of Pigsy’s noodles, sliding to a perfect stop with a wink toward the camera.
~3…2…1~
“MK, there’s something I wanted to tell you…” Mei said, looking at MK with sparkles in her eyes before snickering. “Stop looking at me like that, it’s hard enough to keep a straight face during this scene!”
“Sorry!” Xiaotian yelled to the camera. “I can’t help it! How are Jin and Yin this wrong about these two in the show?”
“Himbos!” was the shouted answer from Tang at the other end of the set.
~3…2…1~
“One of the rare talents that no one knew the great Sun Wukong possessed…” Xiaojiao said ominously, camera panning over to Mr. Cheung in full costume. “Surprisingly good peach juggling!”
“Gotta keep myself occupied somehow!” The actor laughed out, catching two peaches in either hand while the last one was caught perfectly in his mouth to the applause of everyone watching.
~3…2…1~
“Thanks for the Key los-AH!”
Red flung his arms wildly, key flying into the air as Tie Shan rushed forward and caught him just before he face planted into the ground.
“Mine!” Mr. Cheung yelled as he caught the key mid air and rushed through the frame.
“YOU’RE NOT EVEN IN THIS EPISODE!”
~3…2…1~
“Thank you… for giving me all o-ooh, whoa!” Lui Er Mihou, or unbeknownst to nearly all Six-Eared Macaque in disguise much the same way as Sun Wukong was, yelped as the cable that was supposed to gently raise him and make him look like he was floating yoinked him as good 4 feet off the ground way too fast. “That’s too much power!”
“SORRY!” The line operator shouted, fiddling with the controls. “Someone loaded the weight setting for Xiaotian into your line instead of yours.”
“I already feel bad enough treating him like garbage and beating him up in this role, this is just rubbing salt in the wound,” Liu Er muttered, leaning back and swinging limply much to the amusement of everyone who couldn’t hear him before raising his voice. “When will my beloved friend Sun Wukong come to rescue me?”
“SPEAK MY NAME AND I SHALL APPEAR!”
Liu Er yelped in surprise as Mr. Cheung rushed in and grabbed him from beneath to hold him bridal style with a shit eating grin. He couldn't help the flush on his cheeks in response.
“HOW DO YOU KEEP SHOWING UP IN SHOTS WHEN YOU AREN’T SUPPOSED TO BE THERE YET!?” The director yelled with more than a little amusement in his voice despite the disruption.
~3…2…1~
“You!” DBK said, rounding on Red Son. “You have brought me nothing but failure! Time and time again! I keep telling you I… shit, I can’t remember the next line when you look that sad, I am so sorry.”
“Nothing but disappointment?” Red offered helpfully, immediately breaking out of his downcast somber gaze to the floor with a wide smile.
“It is scary how fast you get in and out of character sometimes, kid,” Niu Mowang laughed out, clearly resisting the urge to ruffle the younger actor’s hair lest he ruin the styling job that took far too long every time they got dressed.
~3…2…1~
The White Bone Spirit stood at the entrance to the Silken Web Cave, looking at the camera before far too much time passed from when she was supposed to say he line. She moon walked backwards out of the frame without changing her expression one bit as the other actors devolved into cackles.
~3…2…1~
“The Year of the Spider starts tonight!” Spider Queen proclaimed from her high vantage point before she muttered something under her breathe, narrowing her gaze and then looking off to the side. “Or next year ‘cause I don’t remember my line.”
~3…2…1~
Huntsman slowly lowered into frame, upside down and gripping the rigging holding him up like Spiderman.
~3…2…1~
“Oh yeah?” Sun Wukong said, appearing in frame as he walked down the wall MK was embedded in. He grabbed his staff, yanking it out of the wall and jumped down and smacked the wall with it.
… only for it to go through the wall once again and crack it. Or, rather, the false wall that was on a tilted angle to make it look like he was talking down it, rather than a heavily slanted floor.
“I’m sorry!” Mr. Cheung yelled, looking at the damage he caused. “I must have hit at weak spot!”
He hoped no one noticed that when MK offered to get the prop staff for this shot and put it into the wall… he grabbed the real one by accident.
~3…2…1~
Nui Mowang held the little bird that was Wukong’s transformation stand in for one of the final scenes, gently petting the little head with a big goofy smile on his face.
~END~
The entire cast sat around on various travel tables right outside the small Lunar New Year Festival set they had set up, various extras that had answered the open invitation for the shoot going about and getting the free food that was available at the functional stalls provided by the catering they had hired.
It was an odd sight to see Red Son and Spider Queen and Sun Wukong and everyone else sitting around together, but Liu Er Mihou being there outside of his Macaque costume broke the illusion a little bit.
It was the final day of shooting for the season 2 opening special to Monkie Kid, Revenge of the Spider Queen, and everyone was there. Even people who didn’t have to come in wanted to give a temporary farewell to Tie Shan, Nui Mowang, and Red before season 2 proper began shooting. There was still a chance they could bebcalled in for bit roles, the scripts weren’t entirely finished yet, but as far as anyone knew the Demon Bull Family wasn’t going to be returning properly any time soon.
Maybe in season 3, Tang had teased, holding the begun scripts for that in his little tablet away from prying eyes. And they were always welcome to help out in bit roles, background characters or voice over or to use their other talents to work other jobs that were needed around the set.
But even before then it would be a while.
And so that’s how Red found himself sandwiched between Long Xiaojiao and Qi Xiaotian, with the newly added member of their quartet in her full White Bone Spirit costume hanging over his shoulder to watch the compilation that Xiaojiao had expertly edited on her phone for them all.
“The director gave me permission to use whatever I wanted and I though that… maybe we could all have it for ourselves,” Xiaojiao offered, pulling up the wireless transfer option on her phone. “To watch when we miss each other being on set together. I know we’re going to probably be back together with Red Son eventually! But…”
“I’ll miss shooting with you too,” Red said smiling softly as he pulled out his own phone to accept the file. “Hopefully Mr. Tang isn’t just teasing us about season 3.”

Comfort & Realization
A gift for @winterpower98 since it’s her birthday! Below is some shadowpeach hurt/comfort for her Mentorswap AU, enjoy!
Content warning for descriptions of a character having a panic attack.
Wukong wasn’t sure when it started happening. This… truce between him and Macaque.
If he had to try and pinpoint it, it would likely be the first time they stumbled upon each other in Mei’s apartment while the mechanic wasn’t there. Where they were both far too exhausted that instead of fighting, they simply just… hung out around each other. Not much talking. Just simply finding quiet comfort in each other, two people who just felt beat down by life. Two people who simply needed rest and peace.
They had silently agreed that they wouldn’t speak of their meeting after waking up snuggled close to one another. That this was a one-time thing and would never happen again.
Or at least, that was the plan.
But they kept running into each other at Mei’s apartment. And every time, they kept coming up with excuses to put the façade that them hanging around each other was only done begrudgingly. And every time, they’d end up falling asleep on Mei’s couch out of sheer exhaustion for her to inevitably find late at night after a long day at the shop. And every single time, Mei would simply smile at the sight of the two and leave them after laying a blanket over the two of them.
Well and perhaps after taking a photo… or several.
She found them adorable, so sue her.
Regardless, while Wukong would only admit it on the threat of death… he had found himself genuinely enjoying Macaque’s company during those quiet moments of truce. Moments where he didn’t have to put on the mask of still being the cocky, energetic young man everyone saw him as and instead could let it drop. Macaque didn’t ask questions or try to prod, he simply gave Wukong a look of concern and didn’t protest if he sat closer to the monkey demon than necessary.
It was… nice. A lot nicer than he wanted to admit.
But, like seemingly everything in Wukong’s life, it had to change. Quickly, suddenly, and uncomfortably.
And what’s worse is that he couldn’t blame anything aside from things he had been holding down, repressing, since the very beginning. When things came crumbling down. Things he couldn’t ignore anymore.
He just couldn’t.
It had started well enough, Wukong allowing himself a breather after defeating another demon that thought they could take the staff for themselves. But they certainly put up a good fight, even giving him a couple of close calls that could have been bad if Bajie hadn’t screamed out a warning to him at just the right moment. That certainly let his heart thundering in his chest, even after the danger was long gone.
And yet Wukong couldn’t help but smile as his friends were quick to rush him into a crushing hug filled with relief. Bajie especially, despite his claims to the contrary.
“Nice to see that you still love me Bagel.”
“Call me that again and I will suplex your skinny ass.”
Tang, Sandy, and Bai Long could only chuckle at the two as they bicker back and forth, the familiar sounds and routine bringing a surprising amount of comfort to Wukong. Things weren’t quite the same as before, of course. But it was enough to slowly start putting his racing heart at ease and he slowly had started to become comfortable.
Until he saw a flash of red hair in his peripheral vision. A shade of red that he knew anywhere.
And his eyes met with Red’s, who was staring at him in shock from across the plaza.
It felt like time had stopped.
Wukong could faintly hear his friends calling his name and yet it only sounded like muffled echoes. All that his mind could register was the jackhammer beat of his heart and how Red seemed to be weighed down by… Wukong didn’t know what. Guilt? Sadness? Self-loathing? He didn’t know.
All the young man knew right in that moment was that he needed to leave. Now.
And that he did. It was all a blur of panic and fear for him. He might have heard Bajie and Tang call out to him as he had the staff take him away, but all Wukong could hear was his skyrocketing pulse and feel the impending nausea curdled his stomach. He just wanted to get away to somewhere safe where nobody would find him. Where Red wouldn’t find him or be able to even see him.
Wukong stumbled into Mei’s apartment, breathing uneven and tears already brimming his eyes. His chest felt tight, as if still in the vice grip of the demon he fought earlier, and his legs wobbly that it was a minor miracle that he was able to make it to the couch. The young man collapsed on to the sofa and curled into a fetal position, unable to hear anything but his heartbeat.
Unable to see anything except the sight of his former father figure for the first time in months.
Not since he lied to Wukong, stole his powers, tried to kill is mentor and nearly killed him in the worst way possible during the process.
Wukong thought with how long it had been that maybe the sight of Red wouldn’t hurt anymore.
He was wrong. It had hurt even worse than before.
In the dark quiet of Mei’s apartment, Wukong was left to quietly sob and spiral back down to the memories of where everything changed. The shock of having his powers ripped from him by someone he thought he trusted. Nearly being buried alive, something that gave still gave him nightmares to remember. The stab of betrayal. It hurt, it hurt, it hurt.
He stopped completely. Breath, thoughts, and all. There was a hand on his shoulder.
Before Wukong could lash out at any possible threat, he caught sight of familiar black fur and ridged ears. It was Macaque, eyes soft with worry despite the poor attempt of a smirk to hide it.
“Hey… you okay there, monkey wannabe? Did something happen?”
That was the needle to Wukong’s metaphorical balloon of anxiety, stress, and heartbreak.
Quiet whimpers became full-on sobs and Macaque stumbled back as Wukong clung to him, desperate for comfort. Countless questions were running through the demon’s head, wondering what could have possibly left someone like Wukong in such a state. But he left them on the backburner of his mind.
Now was definitely not the time to ask questions.
Instead, he silently held Wukong, stroking his back to offer comfort.
Macaque wasn’t sure how long they were there but eventually, Wukong’s sobs died down and yet he still continued to cling to the other. He was tired and cold; Macaque was comforting and warm. His fur was surprisingly soft and smelled faintly of jasmine.
“You… feel better now?”
“…A little. Thanks Macaque.” Wukong’s voice was scratchy from all his crying, eyes red as well, yet he gave the other a weak smile of gratitude.
He froze. He called him Macaque. Wukong never called him by his actual name. It was always ‘Hot Topic reject’ or just ‘Mac’, never his full name.
Macaque liked how it sounded when Wukong said his name.
Oh. Oh no.
“Uh, no problem. Do you want me to-?” He stopped as he felt Wukong squeeze tighter around his shoulders, burying his face in the crook of the demon’s neck.
“Stay. Please.” He had never heard him sound so small.
“Okay, I’ll stay, just stop with the puppy dog eyes,” Macaque grumbled, ignoring the chuckles which rumbled through Wukong’s chest. He huffed, silently wrapping his tail around the other’s waist in hopes it would go unnoticed.
“Sorry if I got your shoulder soggy Macaque,” Wukong mumbled, exhaustion heavy in his voice as he struggled to keep his eyes open. Thankfully, that kept him from noticing the demon’s cheeks turn red as he came to realize just how much he liked the sound of his name when it came from his supposed nemesis. Enough that Macaque was starting to hope that Wukong would continue to call him by that name after all of… this.
“Don’t worry about it… Wukong.”
“Hm… I like how you say my name.” Macaque’s face was now completely red, right to the tips of his ears.
Oh no!
“Well, if you want… I could just keep calling you that instead of ‘monkey wannabe’. But only if you stop calling me a Hot Topic reject. Do we have a deal?”
Wukong yawned, allowing the demon to see the others tiny fangs and while Macaque would carry it to his grave, he found it extremely adorable.
“Deal. I like calling you… Macaque more anyway.” He let out another yawn. “I’m just gonna, rest my eyes for a bit.”
Wukong was immediately out like a light.
And as Macaque stared at the young man’s face, now much more relaxed in the throes of sleep, he knew he was completely gone. And it had only taken him now to realize it. A part of him was tempted to immediately do something about it, start courting Wukong, but he held himself back.
He had plenty of time. For now, he would just enjoy the moment. And maybe… rest his eyes for a moment too.
Macaque was also immediately out after he closed his eyes.

@ghoul--doodle Your art get me an idea (and destroy a part of my block write), and I make this! Hope you will like it and not.. be mad. Hehe...
(Your art is gorgeous.)
~•✦•~
Fight the past, loser.
--
"What- Macaque! No. You're talking nonsense already."
Wukong is trying- that said.. to talk to him, more to get rid of the truth and discussion. He had entered into a small quarrel with Macaque over the past, a painful past between them.
"Be serious Mango, years have passed! Even centuries. I thought you know, you passed." Wukong was still watching him. He expected a reaction from him, but nothing, and that worried him a little. "Mac-"
"Because you LEFT me!" He yells at the golden monkey, who is just looking at him in shock.
"M-macaque..."
"And then you forgot about me." He continues, in a harsh voice, continued by sadness and betrayal. "You got all high and mighty once you got your Powers- then you left without a second thought. And you never apologised." Tears welled up in the corner of his eyes. With the memory of how he stood and waited for Wukong to appear, how he denied with tears in his eyes and smiling that he would not do this, would not do this to Him. Destroyed him even more. "And you expect me NOT to hate You?!"
Wukong watched Macaque's tears roll down his throat as his departureĺ affected him greatly.
Macaque had learned over the years to hate Monkie King, but the truth was that after all that hatred, there was a wounded soul who wanted him back after all he had done to him. Wukong was the only person who stayed with him and he really wanted to be friends. The thought of losing him and being alone again plunged him into a pit of darkness and fear.
A silence had fallen over them, a silence that had been broken by an almost forced laugh that only made Wukong more worried.
"Heh.. hehe.. I was naive, huh?"
"Mango..?"
"I was naive to think you'd want to be friends, to be something. I was naive." His gaze had moved to the sky. "Naive to think I can be equal to the great Sun Wukong. But Monkie King doesn't need anyone, he doesn't need a shadow like me when he has Power, right?"
These words had hit Monkey King hard, realizing or remembering that he had made a mistake.
"Mac-"
"Monkie King!!"
MK's voice calling to him from a distance caught their attention and interrupted King from speaking. Macaque was looking in that direction. He wiped the last of his tears from his face, then looked at Wukong, who turned to see how far/close MK was to them.
"Your successor is called."
"Mac-" Instant turned to him, trying to speak again.
"It would be rude of you to let him wait."
"Wait, Macaque!"
But already Six-Eared Macaque disappeared into the shadows, leaving Sun Wukong in ruins.
"Monkie King! I'm here for training. Sorry I'm late, Mei kept me on a video with kittens. They were cute, I can't deny it." MK said cheerfully. He looked after his mentor, who was sitting with his back to him, without a voice or reaction, as if he hadn't even heard him. "Uh... Monkie King?"
"Oh it's nothing Kid!" Wukong turned to him, smiling as if nothing had happened before. "If you're still there, let's start training, shall we?"
"Yeah!"
MK ran excitedly with the staff in his hand at the training ground. Monkie King smiled sadly at him, then returned to where Macaque had been, and his expression changed.
"I'm really sorry, Mango..."

Ink Pages pt.1
This is fan fiction that is posted on AO3 by the same name. It features Inkypages/Tintedlenses (Macaque x Tang) Hope you Enjoy!!
https://archiveofourown.org/works/33650371/chapters/83623204
The day was plain, Macaque leaped from roof to roof. It’s been two days since fought with Monkey King and was defeated by Monkie Kid. Furious, he tries to figure out another way to defeat Monkey King. Staying in the dojo wasn’t much help so he decided to get some fresh air.
“Come on, think! What type of weapon is out there that could kill that immortal bastard” - the thought to himself. That’s when he spots Mk running down the streets.
“Now what do we have here.” - he grins, getting a better look at Monkey King’s successor.  Mk stops for while, catching his breath.
“*huffing and puffing* C-Can’t be late … gotta get … the package” - Mk says to himself before running off again.
Macaque decides to follow him, waiting to know why he’s in such a hurry. After a while, Mk stops and enters Outdoor Market Place. Macaque stops and makes his way down an alley. It seems like Mk is looking for someone. He sees an opening to attack Mk without anyone knowing.
‘Your mine now’ - he says to himself, preparing to attack.
He gets startled as someone calls out to Mk. Mk turns, smiles, and runs towards the person who called him. Macaque gets irritated. Who dares interrupt him?!
He peeks at the corner and sees … someone … beautiful. Macaque sees the most beautiful human being he’s ever seen. A man with glasses, a red/white coat, and a scarf.
“There you are, Mk! Where have you been?” - the scholar says.
“Sorry to keep you waiting, Mr. Tang. Pigsy gave me more orders to deliver.” - Mk replies with a weak smile.
“Pigsy, Pigsy. He’s giving you way too much work.” He replies, shaking his head in disappointment. Tang pats Mk’s head.
“I’ll talk to him later about your work. He shouldn’t give you so much work. It’s not healthy for a growing boy.”
“You know I’m 22 right? I’m not a kid anymore”. Mk replies, fixing his hair.
“I know but, you’re my kid.” Tang chuckles and wraps his arm around Mk.
Mk and Tang laugh it off, not knowing the shadow monkey observing them
Macaque’s heart can’t stop beating. He looks at Tang, he looks at his body, up and down. It’s perfect, his body is perfect. His skin… it’s smooth and soft. His eyes are beautiful. So is his smile.
“Well, we better go get Pigsy’s delivery. It’s getting late and the market is starting to close. Let’s not keep Pigsy waiting.” Tang says leading the way.
“Yes, sir.” - Mk replies, following not far behind.
Macaque follows them around the market. After a while, he winds up following them back to Pigsy’s. He sees the pig waiting outside, hands crossed and with a frown. Tang and Mk arrive with the package.
“What took you two so long? Do you know what time it is? I’m about to close the store!” - Pigsy scowls.
“Sorry about that, boss. With all the extra deliveries, I arrived at the market late.” - Mk apologies.
Pigsy gives a heavy hump. Tang looks at Pigsy with a glare.
“Pigsy, you can't be angry with Mk, he works extra hard and is the Monkie Kid, fighting DBK and hanging out with Mei and Sandy. Give the kid a break.” Tang says with a sad expression. Mk joins in, making puppy eyes.
“Ya, like a day off?”
“Don’t push it, young man, now go set the package on the counter.” - Pigsy snaps back.
“Ugh, fine.” - Mk makes his way into the shop with a frown.
“Don’t drop it, or you’re fired!” Pigsy yells out.
“You know you can’t fire your only employee, Pigsy.” - Tang replies with a smirk.
Pigsy sighs. “Must you always be a smartass?”
Tang lightly chuckled. His voice made Macaque’s body numb, he felt a sudden heat run through his body.
‘What … am I feeling?’  He thought to himself. He snaps back when he hears Pigsy yelling at Tang!
Macaque could feel something boiling inside of him. Suddenly Pigsy hits Tang on his head, making the scholar fall back.
“You should think twice before saying anything smart, you freeloader!” - Pigsy shouts.
“Ow, that hurt!”
The boiling turns into a flame as Macaque is triggered by this. The Lamppost nearby light suddenly went dark by Macaque’s sudden anger. It startles Pigsy and Tang, Macaque quickly hides in the shadows, not being seen.
“What was that?” - Tang said, concerned.
“Not sure. The bulb must have popped.” - Pigsy replies, reaching a hand out to tang, helping him up. In a single pull, Tang gets up.
“Wow Pigsy, have you been working out? You seem to have gotten stronger, you could almost lift me with one hand.” - Tang smiles on. Pigsy’s face turns red by the sudden compliment and prays he gets from Tang.  Macaque notices this and gets even angrier, making him kick a garbage can. Pigsy and Tang suddenly turn in the direction where it came from.
“You head inside, I’m gonna go check it ok?” - Pigsy says patting Tang on his shoulder.
“ Ok, be careful.” - Tang says, heading inside.
Pigsy grabs his broom and heads towards the alley. Macaque quickly hides in the shadows.
“Who’s there? Come on out!” - Pigsy demands.
That’s when a raccoon pops out, startling Pigsy. He shoos it off and it runs off. Pigsy turns back heading inside the shop. From inside, Macaque can hear Tang asking what happened. Pigsy tells him that it was just a raccoon. Macaque makes his way out of the alley but runs back in when he sees a green motorcycle park. A girl gets off and runs off, calling out to MK.
“Mk! There you are! I thought you said we were going to meet at the arcade?!” Mei yells, angry from waiting for an hour.
“Sorry about that, Mei. Had a couple more orders plus had to get a delivery for Pigsy.” - Keeping his head down in shame.
“*sighs* I guess I could let this slide.” Mei looks at Pigsy, “You shouldn’t give so much work to Mk. He works so hard, fighting DBK clones plus training with Monkey King.” Tang gives Pigsy a smirk. “Told you so.” Pigsy opens his mouth but closes it knowing he isn’t winning this argument. Everyone starts bursting into laughter. Macaque focuses on Tang’s voice. Hearing him laugh, warms his heart, it makes him smile. He wants to feel this feeling forever, and more. He wanted to do things, he never imaged he would do. But how could he get close to him when his enemy is near him at all times? Unless …  he isn’t his enemy. Not anymore.
“Hey Mk, can I ask you something?”
“Yeah, what’s up?”
“Whatever happened to that weird purple thing that attacked a few days ago?”
“Oh-oh that, um …  well uh … Me and Monkey King took care of it. Don’t worry about it. W-why do you ask?”
“Oh no reason, it just, don’t get me wrong but that thing kinda looked like him?”
“W-What no it doesn’t look like him at him at all.”
“He’s right, it looks more like me. ” - a sudden voice enters the conversation. Standing in the door was Macaque, hands on his hips and a smirk on his face.
Everyone but Mk has confused looks. This guy looks like Monkey King but is very different from him, besides appearance. Macaque looks at Tang and gives a small wave. Mk quickly takes out his staff and stands in front of his friends.
“What are you doing here?!” - Mk yells at him.
“Wow, easy there kid. I just wanted to stop by and say hello to my favorite student.” -Macaque replies with a grin on his face.
“I’m not your student, not get out of here before I knock that smudge clean off your face.” - Mk threatens back. Pigsy can see the look on Mk’’s face, anger, and fear.
“How did you know I was here?” - Mk demands.
“I saw you at the market,” Macaque leans over, looking directly at Tang. “With your cute friend back there.”
Tang feels uncomfortable by the sudden flirting the demon is giving him. Without a second thought, Pigsy stands next to Mk, ready to fight. Mei joins in.
“Leave this place Macaque or else.”
“Ya! Leave you Monkey King Imposter!”
“Easy there. At least here me out-”
“I don’t need to hear anything from you. You just can’t come in and threaten my friend like that.”
“Threaten? Now, why would I threaten a cutie like him.” Macaque winks at Tang, angering Pigsy.
“Get out of my shop, Now!”
“Mk!” A sudden shout comes from behind Macaque. Wukong walks in, looking at the ground, not noticing Macaque.
“You left your-” he sees Macaque. “Jacket…” There was a long silence between them.
“Monkey King! Nice to see you again, ‘bud’. ” - Macaque chuckles. Wukong drops Mk’s jacket and launches himself at Macaque, violently pinning him by the throat on the wall.
“How dare you come back! You didn’t get the memo, to leave us alone.” Wukong takes the staff from Mk.
“Looks like I’ll have to get rid of you myself.”
Tang, not far from the demon monkeys sees what is about to happen. Not a fan of violence plus not wanting Pigsy ‘s shop to end up destroyed, he speaks out.
“Wait!” - Tang yells out, making Wukong and Macaque turn and look at him.
“I’m not sure what exactly happened between you three but clearly violence doesn’t solve anything. If we want him to leave, we should at least hear him out, despite his” Tang gives Macaque a worried glare “odd approach towards us.”
Macaque smiles.
“See, he gets it.” Macaque turns into a shadow, freeing him from Wukong’s grasp. He makes his way to Tang, appearing behind him.
“Tang!” - Pigsy yells out.
“Cutie here knows how to treat an alley.” Macaque places his hands on his shoulders leaning his head on Tang’s shoulders. Wukong quickly grabs Tang, yanking him away from Macaque. Tang gets behind Wukong.
“Keep your filthy hands away from him!”
Macaque snarls at Wukong for taking his price away from him.
Mei interrupts “What do you mean by alley?”
“Ya, spill.”
Macaque looks at Tang, stops, and takes a quick breath. “Ahem, as I was saying.” He looks at Wukong.
“I want to redeem myself.”

Bai He - the Half-Cat Demon
realised I forgot to reply to this comment by @violetjedisylveon:
Tumblr media
And the answer for Bai He in "The Monkey King and the Infant Au" is: Yes.
One of her latent powers is turning herself into a kitten when she's frightened.
In this au version of her; she was orphaned as a baby and was considered "unadoptable" due to her mixed human/demon parentage. She eventually ran away and tried to live on the streets as an alley cat - figuring if the world couldn't see her as a person, she could be an animal.
She is introduced to the family when Pigsy hears banging around the garbage outside one night while closing up the shop. He checks it out thinking its dogs or rats or something and just sees:
Tumblr media
Bai He, still in kitten form: *spit-hisses* >:O! Pigsy, trying his best not to aww: "Oh uh. Are you owned by anybody, kit?" Bai He: *sad mew* Pigsy: "Alright then. Guess you're living here now."
Bai He lives in the shop for a whole weekend, playing with the kids and being fed boiled scraps of meat (Pigsy: "It's not charity! She works here as pest control!"), and just being adored by the patrons. Until one morning Macaque walks down and sees her; "That is an entire baby cat yao. Her shadow is too big."
Bai He (after a lot of soft encouragement) then turned into her "human" form, which still had obvious cat features she couldn't glamour off (ears, pupils, tail, and paw pads). She was underfed, not dressed for the cold, and was too scared to speak. The fam took one look at her and decided immediately "New daughter."
Being the "baby" of the kids, she is frustrated when they make her stay at home or hide during fights. Macaque has been teaching her shadow magic - he jokes that the cat part of her is a natural for it. She has a special interest in animal health and psychology. Her fave place to be is Sandy's boat, helping him take care of his foster kitties and practicing meditation techniques (she's a little impatient but she's getting the hang of it). She likes to give thanks to Li Shou (goddess of cats) on special occassions, especially on her adoption/gotcha day anniversary.
Macaque obviously spoils her rotten despite claiming not to. Wukong will kill anything that even looks at his baby girl wrong. Pigsy is a little more firm, but playfully still calls her his manager of pest control. Tang enjoys infodumping with her about cat mythology and mythological creatures. And ofc Sandy is her absolute fave uncle ever since Cats.
So when she goes missing following the release of Lady Bone Demon, all hell breaks loose amongst the family to find her.
Don't worry about her fate though. She's grown alot since she was a kitten. And she honestly isn't sure what kind of cat her bio parent was...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But that detail isn't important she thinks.

Soul anon here, stalking your blog
I hard agree with you. I dislike so much of how the fandom treats the LMK characters. I don't understand how the fandom loves the show so much and doesn't seem to be able to grasp the characters at all.
Mk isn't written hardly with respect. He's so often reduced to empty air head adhd silly guy when he does have a lot of serious moments or otherwise when it's shown that he is intuitive, intelligent, and has a lot of good instincts.
Macaque is either constantly character bashed or woobified by the fandom, and so many fucking people in the audience fall for the facade he puts up. Like holy shit it's so bad. He's such an interesting character and a joy to watch and people just...seem like they hate him or love him and there's hardly any room for analysis on his motivations and behavior in a way that makes any sense when given full context.
Wukong is like...so loved by the fandom but ALSO is treated with zero respect somehow? Like they think he can't read? And the whole fandom sometimes feels like he can do no wrong when it's shown that he's still making mistakes but he is learning and growing (still! Even after his journey!) And that's a lot of the point to his character too! He's a silly little guy yes, but he's not a baby that the fandom makes him out to be who never does anything wrong. I don't get how he's so beloved by fandom and yet so many fan depictions are so...bad.
And Mei? Oh my god she has such good characterization in the show and so many good moments and yet I can't think of a comic, character analysis or fic where anyone gets her? She's shown to be strong, compassionate and analytical and yet so many people don't bother to let her be any of those things.
(I could keep going. Red Son. Pigsy. Tang. Etc.)
The fandom is small and there's great fanmade art and fic, but it always feels like so many people will get a couple of characters right and then just. Shit on the rest of the characters they don't like. I think it's partially due to that it's a small fandom and lack of people who can view any media with any level of nuance. All that said, it's why I love your fic so much, it feels like you nailed the monkey boys so well.
ohh yeah. there's a lot of younger people in the fandom (not that that's a bad thing but uh) so they're kind of lacking that critical thinking and life experience. not trying to be mean, but that's. literally how growing up works. and y'know, not being able to see the complexity to characters, thinking things are very black and white, etc. It's very frustrating!
MK will always be a great example of this, because the hints of deeper character he has in the show are just outright ignored for funnies and silly haha's for the fandom to enjoy. And Macaque isn't seen for who he truly is. like MK called him out explicitly in the show, and it's like everyone forgot about that. Like all it took for Macaque to drop his facade was someone looking at him for who he is and understanding him. and saying that...who he is okay.
it's just really sad because. you know it's a writing technique/literary device to put these sprinkles of character in, especially when you're working on a show that runs so short. that means every instance of dialogue matters. it's intentional. if they had more time, they could be more forthcoming with this stuff, but that's why there's a lot of things built into the background, too. they're literally using every trick in the book to tell a story BEHIND the story to make up for the small amount of time they have. and dealing with constraints and mandates. like "there has to be a big bad so we can sell sets with the mechs and weapons each season" and they writers are like "okay let's come up with a seasonal villain and everything. again."
But getting back to it -- yeah, Mei, too, is mischaracterized and it's such a shame. she's SO COOL. I love how out there and bright and funny she is! I love that she's so protective and determined. and she CARES about MK, they are best friends they get into some stupid shit together. i'd love to write their friendship, i wanna do that SO BAD PLEASE.
how the fandom treats wukong is part of what inspired me to write this big long fic in the first place. if they're not grossly misinterpreting something he's said/done, they're diluting him down to his cuteness and sweetness and ignoring everything else. and it SUCKS because I LOVE how the show demonstrates that he's not perfect and still needs to develop. Like he IS NOT a good mentor and is actually terrible LMFAO but he's trying!! he's trying. that's why there's so many sunburst duo moments in my fic because, after season 3, i really just see wukong going "okay, i have to take this seriously. for real this time. I don't like how I've been doing things and I need to do better"
and you know, a lot of the time in fandom, people don't know how to respectfully tackle these subjects? so they just focus on the good and ignore the bad -- much easier to handle the good. but straight up ignoring it isn't the way to go, either. ignoring a character's flaws is ignoring half of the character. take away wukong's flaws and that's not wukong anymore. people don't get that. they see flaws as this purely negative thing when they're essential to making characters be characters.
and there's also this tendency to just. take what one person says and parade it around as fact. that's how we got that "wukong can't read" thing going on. when i first saw that, i was so confused because it went against canon. we've seen him read...in the show...he has a laptop i don't. how did we get here LMFAO
and yeah, it extends to every character. it takes time to get characters right. you really have to like. study them. that's why roleplaying is a good way to like develop those characterization skills, but it only works if you're roleplaying with someone who has a good grasp of the show. or just being able to discern a good interpretation from a bad one. discernment is so pivotal. it's just like how, in film and television, you watch bad shows to learn what NOT to do. same thing here. you look at bad interpretations, you look at good ones. then you decide what's good.
not to say that's not what's happening, because that's how we get variance in interpretations. and you know, some people may not care about characterization and are having fun with their dolls. because that's also what fandom is. and it can be a good thing! but it can also be an aggravating thing.
I actually don't think the fandom is small at all. listen -- i know what a small fandom is. on my main, it's a small fandom, because it's me and 9 other people regularly making content for this pairing. like, every day in LMK land, there are new fics. like there are multiple artists making fanart! not so in where i came from
on main i think i'm one of ... five fic authors making content atm LMFAIJOWLMKA
thank you for saying you enjoy my fic! i'm doing my best, and i mostly wrote it out of spite LMFAO but i'll get into that more during my podcast whatever thingy. but thank you for sending this. it's nice to feel seen, i'm glad you agree! that's why you gotta follow/support people who do make content that suits you and makes sense, because then THEY feel encouraged to continue and do greater things!

Vines and Moss
@ninja-knox-ur-sox-off i bet you thought i forgot about the Rock Garden AU huh
this somehow became more comedy than hurt/comfort but yknow what. im fine with that
Word Count: 2.4k
Read on Ao3
Wukong was laughing.
This wasn't anything unusual. Macaque had seen the other monkey laugh many, many times before.
What was different were the flowers.
Or, well, to be more specific, the notable lack of them.
As far as he remembers, when they were younger, whenever Wukong experienced any kind of intense emotion, from happiness to sadness, the other would begin to sprout flowers.
He'd thought, spitefully, when he'd first seen him again, after all these years, that the lack of flowers had meant that the Monkey King was doing well.
Now though, as Macaque watched Wukong scratch at his elbow, laughing whilst picking at something the others couldn't see, the shadow monkey couldn't help but think there was something wrong.
But it wasn't like there was anything he could do about it. Sure, he could announce his concerns to one of the others, but they definitely had far more things on their plates to worry about. And he couldn't just confront Wukong by himself, oh no, Macaque knew for a fact that if he made even one wrong move he'd be set for getting yeeted off the ship in a mere 3 seconds flat.
So, really, since there was nothing he could do about the situation, he should just ignore it, let it resolve itself.
...Didn't mean he wouldn't take an opportunity to investigate if a chance ever sprung up though.
-
Wukong was injured.
That much was obvious, as he limped back onto the ship after their latest fight with one of the Lady Bone Demon's henchmen. He looked fine, but well.
Looks could very easily be deceiving.
"I keep telling you guys, I'm fine!" Wukong said, dodging Sandy's attempt to grab him by the back of his scarf. "That guy barely left a scratch on me, I'm perfectly fine!"
"Monkey King, you're limping." No one was believing the monkey's act, least of all MK, who had been the one Wukong had taken the hit for. "I saw you get hit, I know you're injured, now just let Sandy and Tang treat you-"
"I'm fine." Wukong repeated, backing up, trying to put a bit of distance between himself and the others.
And Macaque saw an opportunity, in the way Wukong's magic fluttered, unstable from the pain the Monkey King was clearly feeling, despite his repeated denials. Quietly, without anyone noticing, he slipped into the shadows, reappearing behind Wukong.
"Seriously, there's nothing that you need to worry about-" Wukong cut himself off by biting on his own tongue to swallow down a yelp of surprise and pain, as Macaque tripped him. Wukong fell backwards, landing hard, letting out a grunt as the impact jostled his focus, the magic glamour slipping away.
There was blood dripping from the Monkey King's leg.
But that wasn't what caught everyone's attention.
No, what caught their attention was the vines wrapping around Wukong's chest, spreading out to weave their ways around his whole body, and the small, drooping flowers that clang to his fur like they were on their last days of life.
Groaning, Wukong rolled over, pushing himself up off the floor- and in doing so, caught sight of the thick vine wrapping around his wrist that connected to the thinner vine running up his arm, like a cuff attached to a chain. For a second he just stared, before registering that oh. His glamour was down. They could see, the others could all see-
When he looked up at them, the others couldn't contain their wince at the distraught look on the Monkey King's cracked face.
"Uh." MK was the first to break the silence. "So. What's all this?"
Not the best thing to start with, but he'd take it.
"...Provisions?" Wukong offered as a response, picking a piece of the moss on his elbow off.
"What?" MK asked, blinking as though he wasn't sure he'd heard right.
"It's supplies." Wukong said, putting the piece of moss in his mouth and actually eating it-
Macaque glance at the others and was glad to see that his look of faint disgust was mirrored on their faces. At least he wasn't the only sensible one here.
"Should. Should I get the weed killer?" Mei asked, and Macaque immediately retracted his thought of the others being sensible.
"No." He said, walking forward and grabbing hold of Wukong's arm, pulling him up so that the Monkey King was once again standing, albeit he was leaning on Macaque for support. "Wukong, you better tell the truth, because I will only ask this of you once. What the fuck happened to you?"
"It's nothing."
"Nothing my ass. I just told you not to lie." Macaque said, shifting so that Sandy could approach and pick up the Monkey King, as the group started to head down towards the ship's infirmary, Wukong no longer protesting the notion of being treated. Macaque watched with a careful eye as Wukong stiffened in Sandy's grip, fur bristling and tail swishing- and the vines and moss slowly retreated, just the slightest amount. Really only noticeable to one that was looking for it, which was, in fact, what Macaque had been doing. Interesting, but it didn't tell him why. "What made your little happy flowers become... this?"
"I thought you said you were only going to ask me once."
"Don't try and dodge around the question on me."
Wukong didn't give another response, instead going silent. Macaque sighed, having expected that Wukong wouldn't admit as to what had happened to him right from the get-go.
The shadow monkey felt a slight tug on the back of his scarf, and stopped, turning around, letting Sandy continue to bring the Monkey King down to the infirmary on their own.
"What's up, kid?" He asked, meeting MK's confused and worried gaze.
"What's... what's wrong with Monkey King?" MK asked, and Macaque shrugged.
"Couldn't tell ya bud. He used to be all cheery, covered in a few healthy flowers and dropping flower crowns at the drop of a hat. That, on the other hand-" Macaque pointed over his shoulder in the direction that Wukong had been carried in. "I have no idea about. I've never seen that many vines on him, even when he was upset."
"Growing flowers was....normal for him?" MK's face was twisted in confusion, and expression Macaque quickly mirrored.
"Uh... yeah? Certainly not to the extent of how he looks now but- are you seriously telling me the stories never mentioned this?" Upon receiving MK's nod of confirmation, Macaque sighed. "Well, whatever. Something must've happened to him for it to have gotten this bad, and I fully intend to find out what."
-
Figuring out what had caused the vines, it would seem, was a lot harder than simply getting Wukong to permanently drop his glamours. (And even that had been a struggle. It was only when Pigsy had threatened to throw all of the monkey's peach chips over board that Wukong had hastily agreed).
The Monkey King never tried to dodge around the questions, which would've been a good thing, if he didn't choose the alternative of instead becoming absolutely silent whenever the subject was brought up. Initially, Macaque had thought that it was just because he was the one doing the asking, but that thought was quickly dashed when not even Sandy could get an answer out of the stubborn monkey.
At this point, (although Macaque would never admit to it), everyone was worried.
Eventually, after a day or so, MK ended up channeling this worry into hugging the Monkey King, every night, before he went to bed.
And soon enough, the other's all joined in.
Macaque didn't really join in on the impromptu group hugs as much as everyone else did, but, quietly, he had to admit that they were, in fact, rather nice, so he did join in on one or two of them.
It was around that time that he and the others noticed that the vines and moss that covered Wukong was getting thinner, in some places vanishing, and the wisterias and other flowers that drooped off of him started to perk up slightly, almost looking healthier.
Despite this, the Monkey King actively protested the nightly group hugs. Constantly saying that he was "fine" and that the others "didn't need to bother". Still though, he never actually struggled to get out of the group hugs, so his protests weren't very believed.
And then, one night, he just wasn't there.
Wukong had, seemingly, just vanished from the ship.
There wasn't any sign of a struggle, but that didn't convince the others that the Monkey King hadn't been kidnapped.
"We would've heard it though, right?" Mei had asked, turning to Macaque. "You would've heard it, right?"
And Macaque hated to admit that he didn't know.
They didn't dare to leave the ship, or to split up to search in teams. If Wukong had been taken, they couldn't dare to risk anyone else.
It was a sleepless night on the ship.
Everyone was stressed, tired, and anxious the next morning.
Which was probably why, when Wukong pulled himself over the railing and onto the deck, his glamours back on, saying that he had been out doing some impromptu re-con, Tang's first instinct was to kick the Monkey King in the shin.
Wukong yelped, Tang's kick clearly having a lot more power behind it than expected, as he fell to one knee, his glamours melting away, revealing that, in the time that he'd been gone, the vines and moss had returned to their original thickness, he flowers drooping even more than before.
"Oh." Macaque had breathed, finally putting two and two together as he stared at how the vines were the thickest around the Monkey King's heart. "It's because you're lonely."
-
The realization that the reason why Wukong was covered in moss and vines was because he was lonely had practically hit the group like a truck.
All of a sudden, it was like everyone was hanging out around Wukong, whenever they could.
The evening group hugs started happening throughout the day too, to the point where they were literally scheduled.
Wukong, honestly, couldn't truthfully say that he hated it.
Even if it didn't fully soothe the ache in his chest.
He leaned against the rail of the ship, staring down at the water that lapped at the metal. They'd currently landed in the middle of a river, letting Sandy refill the ship's water supply. Watching the water flow in a steady rhythm was... relaxing.
Which was he tensed up as Mei walked up beside him, a slight threatening aura radiating off of her. She didn't do anything immediately, instead leaning against the railing beside him, simply listening to the water for a few minutes.
Wukong's tail swished back and forth, revealing his anxiety.
"...So." Mei eventually started, "You can grow flowers and the like because you're made out of magic stone, right?"
Wukong took a minute to respond, carefully thinking though where this conversation could be going before he opened his mouth.
"....Yes?" He phrased his answer like a question, watching Mei out of the corner of his eye nervously.
"So if you're actually made out of stone. Does that mean if I throw you at the water at just the right angle you'll skip like a pebble?"
Wukong slowly took his hands off the ship's railing.
"Do not throw me into the river." He said, giving Mei a glare.
Mei rolled up her sleeves.
-
Macaque jumped upright as he heard a yell, followed by a splash. He'd been lounging on top of a few crates on the deck, for the most part tuning out the world around him.
Looking over, he stared at where Mei leaned against the railing, looking down at the water.
"That's what you get for avoiding last night's group hug!" She yelled, "You know it's good for you!"
Oh. Oh no.
Macaque quietly snuck down the side of the crate, landing silently on his feet, starting to slowly make his way towards the door that led to the inside of the ship.
He had, in fact, also avoided the group hug last night.
He wasn't exactly keen on getting thrown into the river, but at least Mei hadn't seemed to notice-
"And where do you think you're going?"
Macaque jumped, spinning around to find MK casually leaning against the crate he had just climbed down from.
"Uh- inside?" The shadow monkey asked, nervously. MK smirked.
"Don't think we forgot about you."
The next thing Macaque knew, he was spitting water out of his mouth, glaring up at where Mei and MK high-five on the deck.
"Hey, check on Monkey King for me would ya?" Mei requested, despite Macaque's purple glare. "He hasn't come up yet."
"Uh yeah, cause he sinks." Macaque rolled his eyes, but still complied, ducking down under the water. After a few seconds, he popped back up again. Just like he'd thought- "He's pouting. I doubt he'll be coming back to shore anytime soon."
"Oh please. I'll go get him. MK, hold my jacket." Mei shrugged her jacket off of her shoulders, placing it into MK's waiting hands, before jumping over the railing, diving down under the water. Sighing, Macaque pulled himself back up over the railing of the ship, shaking like a dog in an attempt to get the water off of himself- before quickly giving up on it and turning into semi-shadow instead, going intangible to let the water simply fall off of him.
"You know, maybe I'll just stay like this for the rest of the day." He said, stepping to the side to avoid Mei and Wukong falling through him as the dragon forcibly pulled the waterlogged monkey back onto the ship. "You can't hug what you can't touch."
In response, MK whipped out a small flashlight, flicking it on and shining it in Macaque's direction.
Almost immediately, Macaque was tangible again, and MK wasted no time in tossing Mei's jacket at her as he stepped forwards and wrapped the shadow monkey into a hug.
Whatever shocked expression was on Macaque's face must've been somewhat comedic, as Wukong immediately burst into laughter.
"Oh yeah, sure, laugh it up you- you walking boulder." Macaque hissed.
"Is that the best insult you can come up with?" Mei asked, wringing water out of her hair.
"What, did you expect me to read a manual on how to insult rocks?" Macaque asked.
"Yes, actually?" MK said, leaning away from Macaque to answer, but not letting go of him.
That comment actually made Wukong start laughing harder, and the three others watched with faint happiness as a small flower crown formed around the Monkey King's head.

Tumblr Messed Up Fill #1
Tumblr media
So Tumblr did a BIG OLD OOPS and published a bunch of my unfinished drafts that I left in my queue at 1 PM... when I set it to 1 AM and intended to finish a couple and then change the time again.
LUCKILY I DIDN’T HAVE THE ENTIRE FILLS IN THE QUEUE AND JUST BITS I ADDED IN TO HOLD SPACE. So... I guess this is how we’re doing this! @winterpower98 here’s some Mentor Swap AU Shadowpeach!
How did you get that scar?/That is not a good hiding spot.
It had been scheduled far in advance and Wukong should have remembered that this was going to happen. The Weather Station needed to let it rain sometimes! It was good for the environment! Good for nature! But Wukong was Wukong and when he trained with Xiaotian for as long as he did he had a tendency to forget the unimportant things like “scheduled downpours” and “when training is actually supposed to end”.
So by the time he managed to crash land a foot away from Mei’s front door after pogo sticking his way off of Mount Huaguo he looked like he’d been dropped into the ocean.
“Cold-cold, cold and wet!” He yelped, shoving the staff back into his ear and trying to hold his jacket over his head as best he could, which did just as much good as it did during the ride. Which was “barely anything”. “Ah shit, it’s cold why can’t they make the rain not COLD!?”
He continued into the building, shuddering as he felt rain water seeping through every bit of fabric he wore, even his shoes the traitors. He immediately started ripping off his shirt, at the very least wanting to get some of the drenched clothing off him, and he froze when he heard a yelp from the other side of what should have been a very empty entry way given Mei was supposed to be out of the house.
A very familiar yelp.
“Why aren’t you are your own house!?” The voice yelled, and as Wukong pulled his shirt over his head he found the voice’s own staring at him with wide eyes alight with a mix of confusion and horror.
“UH, I think I should ask you that, Macaque!” He accused, turning sideways and walking backwards into the building with a raised eyebrow. “Why are you in Mei’s house? Are you hiding in Mei's house!? That is not a good hiding spot!"
“Wouldn’t you like to know, Monkey Boy?” Macaque said snarkily with a smirk.
“Monkie KID, and yeah, that’s why I asked,” Wukong snarked right back, holding his shirt and jacket out in front of him with a frown. “Also, you’re a monkey so...”
“Oh shut up.”
"And you look like you nearly drowned," Wukong chuckled, ringing his shirt out and pointedly not mentioning the blush he saw forming on the other's face. Yet. "It's raining cats and dogs and I’m pretty bad to, but you shouldn't be that bad."
"... don't laugh," Macaque grumbled, doing much the same to his scarf. "I was trying to get here when the rain was getting really bad and I... fell. Off the docks."
Wukong immediately burst into cackles.
“I told you not to laugh you asshole!” Macaque snapped, baring his teeth and trying to puff up his fur in annoyance but failing miserably with the sheer amount of water weighing him down. If anything it probably just made him look... adorably sad. Like a puppy. But a human sized monkey.
“I-I’m sorry!” Wukong held his sides, trying his very best to stop laughing. He also failed miserably, if not even more so than Macaque. “It’s just imagining you, YOU, falling off the docks? Just! You’re practically an acrobat! You’re usually way cooler than that!”
As Wukong continued to fail Macaque’s face softened as he stopped barring his teeth in warning and stared at the other young man.
“... you think I’m cool?” He asked softly, attempting to smooth down his fur and brush the water out of it.
“Kinda?” Wukong said with a half snicker, finally having himself under control. “Cool enough I guess.”
Macaque hummed, giving up on his attempts to dry off with a sigh. It was pointless to try to dry off with his fur like this, not without some kind of towel or brush. And he would be damned if he let Wukong let himself shake dry! That was not going to happen.
So instead he turned to the other, watching as he laid out his tip layers on his arm and turned around.
And something caught his eye.
Multiple somethings.
“How did you get that scar?”
Wukong tensed, not enough for him to stop moving but more than enough for Macaque to notice that he was walking away much slower than he needed to.
"Depends on which one you mean," he answered eventually. He reached up to pull on his hair, frowning as it dripped more water on him.  "Hold that thought until I come back."
And so he did. Macaque watched the other leave and stood in the open room, awkward and dripping sea and rain water all over Mei's floor.
He debated leaving. Just walking out the door and avoiding the awkward conversation that was sure to be leveled in his direction when the human returned, but before he could even make the decision to decide on an option something brought and green was lobbed at his head and wrapped around his face.
“WHAT IN THE-”
“Towel off before Mei gets angry we both tracked in water,” Wukong said, mischievous chuckle resounding through the air before Macaque managed to unwrap the towel from his face. “I’ve got something else that’ll help out after.”
Macaque was going to ask what that something was before the words died in his throat, the sight before him making him pause in confusion and barely held back amusement.
“You have Monkey King themed PJs?” He asked, toweling off his head first. “At Mei’s?”
“Sometimes I stay over.” Was all Wukong said, shrugging as if it was nothing. “Considering you’re here and I don’t see signs of a break in I assume those plum PJs in the same closet are yours.”
“I DON’T HAVE PAJAMAS HERE I DON’T STAY THAT OFTEN!” Macaque snapped, and his face flushed a deep red in embarrassment before he saw Wukong’s victory smirk. “... you made that up to make me slip that I’ve been here before.”
“And you took it hook, line, and sinker,” Wukong said playfully, grabbing the monkey demon’s arm and using a second towel he had to dry it off. “I wasn’t kidding about the PJs though.”
“O-oh...” was all Macaque could reply with as the information slowly sunk in before he ripped his arm away. “I can do that myself!”
“Then do it and come inside!”
~
Macaque was... mostly dry after a couple minutes, enough for Wukong to drag him into the bathroom and instruct him to change and use the blow dryer he has shoved into his hands while he mopped the floor. And as much as Macaque disliked the noise... he couldn’t argue that the warm air of the device was a welcome change from the icy seawater against him.
He may have looked like an extra puffed up fur ball when he was done and refused to come out until he at least had the PJs (short sleeved and indeed covered in plums) on to hide the worst of it.
Didn’t stop Wukong from devolving into cackles at his expense once again.
“Hold on, let me do something,” Wukong offered, and guided him to sit down on the couch sideways, situating behind him with the other pulled against his chest and a comb in hand. “At least I can help with your hair... if it counts as hair.”
“... I don’t know if it does,” Macaque replied, finding himself at a loss for what to do and say in this situation.
They were enemies, right?
Shouldn’t Wukong... be chasing him out of the building?
Now sitting him down to- OH NO!
“ACTUALLY WA-”
Macaque froze as Wukong’s fingers brushed against his scalp and the teeth of the comb brushed through his hair, far more gentle than Macaque could remember anyone touching his hair before, and he went limp in Wukong’s arms like putty.
“Knew that’d get ya,” he felt Wukong say as much as he heard him say it, and the hands and comb continued through his hair and fur and he couldn’t even muster up any coherent words to snark back at him. Just a frustrated grumble. “Xiaotian does this to me a lot. And to his monkeys. So I figured this would be... ya know, nice for you.”
They stayed like that for a good while, Wukong brushing his fingers and the comb through puffed up fur and pulling out tangles Macaque didn’t even know he had on the back of his neck. It felt... strange. To trust someone that you spent so much of your time fighting against, flirting with awkwardly in the midst of battle, never thinking that the two of you would just sit and do anything calmly together.
But here they were. On Mei’s couch. Macaque feeling a purr rumble up in his chest as Wukong groomed through his hair and fur in a gesture he clearly admitted he knew the implications of.
“They’re from before,” Wukong said after a while, after he rested his head on Macaque’s shoulder and started working through the fur on his arms. “Before Red took me in... back before I had the staff to fight with.”
And as much as Macaque wanted to ask, and if he really tried he knew he probably could, he chose not to push it when he heard the way Wukong’s tone changed. Something equally nostalgic and melancholy.
“I think they make you look cool too,” was what he said instead.
“... We’re both pretty cool.”

The prompt you wrote with baby MK was extremely cute, but it also gave me an idea that wouldn't leave my brain: Imagine that same situation, but with Mei and Macaque. This is an open prompt, you can do with this whatever you like!
MK isn’t the only one who gets to have this kind of curse/ailment anymore! And I can’t resist putting this in the Cursed AU specifically, simply because I love the idea of this Macaque being confronted face first with the fact he actually cares. Even if it happens 200 times.
"What in the absolute hell are we supposed to do now?" Macaque groaned out, looking around the both of them for any indication of an escape that didn't involve him leaving Mei behind. Which was looking slimmer and slimmer if he didn’t want her to be in more physical danger than she already was. So. Stranded it was.
"I can still help!" Mei insisted, crossing her arms and standing her ground with a wide smirk. "I'm not powerless you know!"
"Never said you were, Jade," Macaque acknowledged instantly, tensing for a half moment when he realized how much he had to be attached to say something like that so fast. He forced himself to relax once again, no point in adding more fuel to the fire of worry that laid between them. "This just makes things complicated."
Oh yeah... complicated, that was one way to put it, definitely. If Macaque was being generous. And ignoring the fact that Mei wasn’t even 4 feet tall... and 4 years old. Physically.
Macaque was supposed to be on official mystic monkey business alone. Or at least that’s what he told Mei and MK to hopefully keep them out of his fur, but apparently Mei had other ideas. Like sneaking onto the private boat he had paid for to be taken to this secluded island far out into the ocean undetected, much farther than Mount Huaguo was. How she managed to sneak past security he may never know, now would he know how she managed to stay hidden for their 7 hour journey, and he would never admit that he was genuinely impressed.
He genuinely had not known she joined him until after the boat left, leaving them both stranded for at least the next 24 hours.
Horray.
Things had actually been going pretty ok, for the most part, after she had made herself known. In actuality Macaque was here to hunt down a specific item of his he had left behind on the island years ago, nothing really world shattering just... important to him. He knew that it would be safe here when he left it, the island as uninhabited and out of the way for humans to come to as it was.
But he also knew many powerful demons occasionally used this island as a hiding ground for when they were injured or planning something, against the owner’s wishes. And unfortunately one such demon just happened to be there on the one day of the while year he planned on coming.
That demon was deader than anything else on this island at the moment. Macaque hadn’t tried to kill him, not really, but they had lobbed something at him that Mei jumped in front of and he reacted on instinct.
If the thing had hit him in the first place they would probably be just fine. A decade and a half off his life span was nothing, unless it was set to a specific age in which... well, he was already able to do most of what he could do as a child so they still probably would have been ok. And hopefully she would be, if his memory served this particular demon was talented only in making temporary cursed and potions... mostly.
He hoped.
“Are you certain using your powers won’t hurt you?” Macaque asked, staring down at the short girl before him.
“I don’t think so?” Mei said with a shrug. “I mean, I’ve kinda had them for as long as I remember so... probably not.”
“Let’s not take that chance,” Macaque said with a sigh, looking around the beach. There was nothing for him to use, no emergency radio or boat. The best they had found on their entire search was a dinky little shelter. “It looks like our best bet would be to hunker down in that building and wait until mid day tomorrow for the boat to return. Provided there aren’t any more demons around we should be fine...”
“I can build a fire!” Mei proclaimed, running off before Macaque could even hope to catch her.
Something pulled in his chest, a protective thrum that he hadn’t felt since... since his journey with MK, but was becoming increasingly common the more time he spent training Mei. And he hadn’t felt that for so long he had forgotten what it felt like when it happened then, so unfamiliar with the desire to protect his old home and monkey friends of Mount Huaguo.
He would never admit even to himself that that feeling was “caring”. At least not yet.
“Jade, get back here!” Macaque yelled, moving to rush off after her before she came barreling back herself with armfuls of sticks and pine cones.
“I got everything we need!” She laughed and threw everything down in front of the building, looking around. “Did you see any rocks?”
“I know how to build a fire,” Macaque said softly, crossing his arms and shaking his head. “We probably don’t even need one.”
“Aw, but this is like a camping trip now!” Mei said, flailing her arms in the direction of the sticks. “I’ve even got marshmallows in my backpack!”
“Why did you bring m-never mind,” Macaque groaned, rubbing his face and sighing deeply. “OK. We’ll build a fire.”
~
It had gone better than hoped, actually. Macaque was able to start the fire with ease and Mei had apparently thought ahead enough that she’s brought the ingredients to make something called s’mores. Macaque had never seen them before, either they were new or they were a foreign treat, but MK had mentioned them to him on their journey and he had to admit... they were nice.
He just wished the gooey marshmallow didn’t stick to his fur so bad.
“And then MK did something that made the clone glow gold and explode into a bazillion pieces of hair!” Mei said, sweeping her arms out as she finisher her story. “And that’s how MK created and saved me from Porty Clone.”
“Sound like MK’s clones had quite the variety to them,” Macaque said with a smile. He’d relaxed over the evening, the normal sounds of the island confirming to him that it was just the two of them now and that at the very least they were safe from attack for the moment. “No wonder he’s careful not to overuse them.”
“Yeah, but Porty was pretty fun until he went overboard,” Mei replied, words cutting off with a yawn and a shiver as the wind picked up. “What time is it?”
Macaque looked up, watching the moon and the stars. “Late enough that it would be best to get some rest. We don’t want to miss the boat after all.”
“Hey, you only paid them half so they better come looking for you if you don’t show up!” She laughed out, making her way into the building as Macaque dumped sand on the fire to douse it. Just in case, don’t need the island catching fire with the wind. “ So uh... what are you going to tell them about... me?”
“That I came here looking for you,” he said plainly, shutting the door behind them. The moonlight shone through the windows of the shelter, giving them just enough light to see the one sad little cot it housed, right next to the massive stock of canned food they had also raided for dinner. He pulled the blanket on the cot back, grimacing at the dust on the blanket but satisfied with the condition of everything under it. He went outside to shake it out and make it usable again. “They know I was looking for something and that’s all they need to know.”
“What were you looking for anyway, Hot Topic?” Mei asked after a moment, watching Macaque make the bed again. “And how do you... know about this place?”
“... it’s mine, actually,” he said quietly, looking around the sad shelter. Unfurnished, cold and empty, with only the island itself and non-perishable food for survival. “I haven’t been back in a long time and most know to stay away, but sometimes demons don’t care. I was looking for something... unimportant.”
“It must have been important if you came all this way to find it,” Mei said, yawning again and rubbing her eyes.
“Ok, that’s enough of that!” Macaque exclaimed, hoping his glamor was hiding the embarrassed flush of his ears at her accusation. “Time for sleep!”
Without giving her a second to protest Macaque grabbed her around the waist with his tail and deposited her under the now clean enough blanket before forcibly tucking her in.
“Hey!” She protested, scowling at him once her arms were free. “I can’t sleep yet!”
“Why not?” Macaque chanced, wondering if he was going to regret this.
“You never told me a story.”
“... huh?”
“At the camp fire!” Mei insisted, leaning over the bed to grab her backpack and hold it to herself like it was a stuffed animal (which wasn’t hard since it was... basically a hollow stuffed dragon anyway). “I told you a bunch of stories about me and MK and Piggy and Tangy and Sandy and you didn’t tell me anything about you and the Monkey King! So spill one, I’m not going to sleep until you do!”
Macaque wanted to say no, wanted to glare at Mei until she just went to sleep through sheer exhaustion, wanted to walk out of the building and just stand guard at the door instead... but he kept looking into her teeny tiny 4 year old glower and he couldn’t help but sigh in defeat.
“Fine...” He said after a moment, moving to sit at the head of the bed. He watched as Mei smiled widely, making herself comfortable. “Let’s see... where should we begin... How about the time Wukong thought it would be a good idea to challenge the whole island to 1 on 1 combat for the title of king because he was bored, long before his proper training?”
“That sounds like him,” Mei said, smiling into her backpack with another yawn as she closed her eyes. “Yeah... tell that one.”
“OK, so this was only a little while after he jumped through the waterfall...”
And Macaque went on and on, giving much more detail than necessary, watching as Mei slowly relaxed until she eventually nodded off before the story even got close to the ending.
Which was... probably good for Macaque, to be honest.
He reached into his pocket, pulling out the item he had come here to find. It was simple, all things considered. A little carved crown, made from wood and preserved carefully through the years, far too small for his head and more of a bracelet. Wukong had made it for him when their own duel, the final one of the whole island, ended in a draw all those centuries ago. A show of how they could, maybe, rule the mountain together one day. He’d left it here so long ago that he worried it would have been destroyed or fallen apart over time.
Apparently Wukong knew a little something about what he was doing back then after all.
Macaque smiled, slipping it back into his pocket as he slid off the bed to sit against it, all six ears fluttering out to listen to the island around them. Just in case.
Mei slept mostly soundly behind him and if she started to whine in the beginnings of a nightmare and he turned around to soothe her and whisper that he was there and she was alright well... that would be something to talk about if she remembered it.

I Love the idea of your OC Aeolian getting this big luck to finding out about someone's Secrets by accident. And Idk if he could do that but maybe some soft with prompt 21 "thats it, you getting a hug, now" bc he would hear pretty sad Secret? Or something like that.
21. “That’s it, you’re getting a hug, now.”
Aeolian laughed as he poked Macaque repeatedly on the shoulder, keeping in time with the other monkey’s pace, walking through the back alleys of town. (Macaque always stuck to alleys. Aeolian figured it had something to do with there being more shadows there, bu he wasn’t entirely sure).
“Aw c’mon.” Aeolian said, “It’s just ten dollars.”
“I’m not giving you ten dollars just because you’re my cousin.” Macaque hissed, trying his best to ignore him. Well, Aeolian wasn’t gonna let him.
“But having to deal with you is exhausting.” He said, “I should at least receive payment for the misfortune of being related to you.”
“You-” Macaque started, then cut himself off, stopping mid-step, his ears twitching. Before Aeolian’s eye’s, the other vanished into shadows, teleporting away.
“Oh c’mon- that’s not fair-” Aeolian froze, his own ears twitching as hushed voices made their way into his own ears. In seconds, he used the wind to boost himself up onto the closest fire escape.
Just in time for MK and Mei to walk into the alley.
Aeolian held his breath as the two of them stopped underneath of him, suddenly wishing he had his cousin’s ability to just fade into the shadows. Counting in his head, he waited for them to leave.
1....
“It’s just, it’s hard y’know?”
2....
“Sometimes I don’t feel worthy to hold this staff.”
3...
“I can get that. I don’t really feel worthy of holding this sword either, since I barely ever use it...”
4....
“Monkey King says he chose me, but he’s hardly ever serious about training, and I have to wonder if he doesn’t think I’m worthy either.”
5...
“I don’t think my parents think I’m worthy of this sword, I’ve seen their disappointed looks when I tell them I’m going to a race instead of some big heroic adventure.”
Okay, that’s enough.
“Alright, that’s it.” Aeolian stood up, making Mei and MK jump as they looked up at him, clearly having not noticed that he was there. “Yeah, hi, I’m here too, surprise.”
“...Fanfare? What are you doing here?” Mei questioned, and Aeolian paused, glancing down at himself. He’d shifted into his phantom thief glamour without having realized it. He shrugged it off.
“Was on my way back from a heist.” He lied. MK shifted back and forth, nervous.
“And uh... how much of me and Mei’s conversation did you hear?” He asked, an anxious laugh forcing it’s way out of his mouth.
“I heard enough.” Aeolian crossed his arms, looking at the two of them in disapproval. When they both avoided eye contact, he sighed. “That’s it. You two are getting a hug, now.”
“Wh-” Before Mei could finish her protest, Aeolian waved his hand, the wind shoving at Mei and MK’s backs, pushing them into Aeolian’s arms. The two of them stiffened, but did nothing to fight off the monkey’s grip.
“I know I’m not the right person to be telling you this.” Aeolian whispered, “And you two should really talk about this to other people. But you will always be worthy enough. And those who can’t recognize that aren’t worth it.”
With that said, Aeolian let them both go, patting them on the shoulders, ignoring their shocked expressions.
“Right. Okay. Anyways I have to be on my way now-” Before he could finish his sentence, there was a bright flash, and he blinked, disoriented for a second before registering the phone held in Mei’s hands.
“Oh- weird.” She said, “You like, don’t show up in the picture at all.”
“Uh-”
“Huh, she’s right.” MK said, looking at the picture over Mei’s shoulder. “That’s weird- are you like, cursed or something?”
“I.....um, no?” Aeolian winced at their twin looks of disbelief, before laughing, throwing on an over confident look. “I have to go now, so I’ll be seeing you two around!”
“Hey, wait- you can’t just comfort us then not let us help y-”
Before MK could finish his sentence, Aeolian had already stepped up onto the wind, letting it carry him to the top of a neighbouring building, where he took off running, crossing at least 10 rooftops before he looked back to check if he was being followed.
He let out a sigh of relief when he saw that he wasn’t.
“Well that was riveting.”
Aeolian jumped as Macaque stepped out of his shadow, standing beside him.
“I- you left me behind you JERK!”
“So?”
“So- so now- you owe me 30 dollars now-”
“I am NOT giving you money-”
