i've gotten so used to my daily practice of reading french aloud that now when i have to read something boring in english for work i default to reading it aloud. which takes way longer and also i feel like i retain even less information than i would otherwise, somehow. the upside is that my oral reading cadence in english, even of dense scientific articles, is rather excellent nowadays. i could read scientific articles out loud for a living, if that was a thing people needed me to do. which they do not, because screenreaders are a thing. maybe i could read crusty PDFs out loud for a living? but anyway all this is to say shoutout to my man alexandre dumas and also my other man victor hugo for training me to read run-on sentences in my second language. after that, dry journal articles in my first language are easy peasy.

"Herr Uthoff, unser Brainstorming hat eindeutig ergeben, wie wir das machen, dass wir diese Sendung auf ein sicheres Fundament stellen. Und zwar stellen wir uns hin und sagen: 'Die Sicherheit Israels ist deutsche Staatsräson'".

English translation below the cut:
Mr. Uthoff, our brainstorming has clearly shown how we are going to put this show on a safe foundation. In fact we are going to stand here and say: 'Israel's security is German reason of state'."
The Middle East conflict and the German reason of state pt. 1/2 Die Anstalt on the 12th December 2023
GIF1 | MU: "What exactly does 'reason of state' mean?" GIF2 | CvW: "Yes, this is very easy! Reason of state, it's already contained in the word. State- GIF 3 | State, then reason. Many don't know - French for rationality. GIF 4 | Or reason. So state reason. Rationality, therefore... reason-rationality... GIF 5 | ...state." GIF 6 | MU: "You have studied communication science, haven't you?" GIF 7 | CvW: "Yes, why?" MU: "I'm asking myself the same question."

There is a specific brand of transphobia which acts as though trans medicine and by extention trans identity was, like, invented in a lab by Capitalism Itself, and obviously it is ahistorical, but the problem, I think is deeper than dismissing it rightly as a conspiracy theory.
For one, just dismissing it is ignoring the blatant antisemitism rooted in this "theory," because this conspiracy also comes with it the idea that "The Jews" invented transness in order to gain power. Obviously this is incorrect, but I have seen people spread this idea who don't think they're antisemitic. And that's terrifying! It's scary to see the same antisemitism (and transphobia) being touted together to slander both groups. We have seen this before, to a larger degree.
It's interesting people think that if there was no profit incentive for healthcare that trans healthcare wouldn't exist, but you must recognize there is a reason people link jewishness with healthcare (and by extent capitalism) and transgender identity and our healthcare. It isn't just trans people hurt by this. Jewish people are also the intended targets of this conspiracy.

interestingly the only mention i can find of a monastery loquarium is (rendered "loquorium") in "the california padres and their mission" by charles francis saunders and joseph smeaton chase, a book in the public domain:
The Mission relics at Santa Inés are many and interesting. Besides those used in the present-day church services, and the beautiful old vestments that are in the sacristy, there is a considerable collection arranged for interested visitors in an interior room of the convento — a room formerly used as the loquorium, where daily, after dinner and after supper, the friars were at liberty to come to rest for an hour from their laboring and praying, and relax in human chat.
the next paragraph also mentions this room now housing relics "patiently got together from all sorts of places," including "from the earth of the surrounding fields as the plough turns it up"
#originally the search yielded archive.org's text version which seems to have been like that autogenerated version from (their own) scan#where it clearly results in a lot of typos as it's ''misread'' like ''inés'' becoming ''in6s''#so it made it difficult to cross reference w/the pdf scan lol...''convento'' had become ''comento'' like i figured that was wrong but had t#actually see the original text to know what had gone wrong there#speaking of limited information recorded in specific places....#how that santa inés is i believe from saint agnes; the portuguese form being inez#akd's character in ''the outside story'' being called ''inez'' in some articles but in the movie they're only called/credited as ''izzy''#a potential nickname; i could believe that this jumped off from them being named inez but thus far it remains apocrypha lol....#pentiment#it's also ofc like; how many resources on olden monastery rooms that aren't scanned / converted to text / public domain available thusly...#but you can somewhat expect Monastic Trivia to potentially show up in other sites or even via like online dictionaries....#checked as much by looking up another [term for Special Room in a monastery] and getting various results defining it#oh now i'm remembering some fun research moment learning that some like Christian Order was defined by standing during prayers instead of#kneeling...and the definition is available and they're all exactly the same b/c they all come from One Resource offering that definition#this came from that ''i'm drawing winston's Standing Posture a certain way'' moment where i read the wikipedia page for [standing] lol#which stemmed from reading the wikipedia page for contrapposto in an effort to learn other Artistic Terms For Standing Certain Ways#orthostasis....yep there it is in the ''see also'' section of the wikipedia Standing article: agonoclita / the agonoclites#7th century christian sect who Never Kneeled...name from greek for like ''i do not bend the knee''...One Citation = everyone's sole citatio#oh also noticing that a loquarium was probably all the more relevant when piero seems to note The Rule frowns on too much conversing for fu#like i've been to Dinner With Benedictines In Their Monastery multiple times lol no such pressure modern day to not chitchat#but that when Rule manifestations were thusly; a room that was like ''exempt'' from that would be unsurprising....fun chitchat hq#monasteries of w/e various orders having zones dedicated to being more chill than is supposedly required outside it....#hmm wikipedia's saying benedictines maintain silence As Much As Possible outside bonus silent hrs / social convos are Limited#news to me. also says ''but such details'' abt the day to day life is technically left by The Rule up to whatever Superior of an abbey#evidently the way of doing things at the one i was familiar with / around were not so pressed about silence / rare/limited socializing

If somehow you haven’t seen by now, while the Super Bowl is being aired, Israel is striking Rafah.
The people of Palestine had been told to go there, they were promised it was safe.
And while this is happening, even though earlier several tags on Palestine were trending, only one or two are now.
I haven’t written any posts personally on Palestine myself. I didn’t feel I had anything to add here aside from reblogging and boosting whatever I can but please. We can’t forget Palestine or its people especially now.
This has gone on too long and gone much much too far MANY times and now is when we need to push harder.
Many of the heads of Western countries are either beating around the bush and wasting time, or outright denying the things the Palestinian people don’t have the privilege to ignore. They don’t have the choice to look away from their pain, or the pain of friends, family, neighbors, their country. And even through all of this they’re still trying their damn hardest just to live. And we all need to listen.
So now, especially if you live in a western country like I do, now we step it up a notch. Now is the time if you haven’t already to read up on Palestinian history. Listen to what the people of Palestine are saying. Hold firm on the boycott like never before. Any and every way you can donate, do it. eSIMs, aid, anything that will reach. Save as much evidence as you can. Videos, articles. Don’t let Zionists pretend all of this never happened.
Even if you think there’s nothing you can do, I’m telling you, keep going. Even if you feel you can only give a little, if we all give a little together it becomes much more.
Hit imperialism where it hurts. In the wallet. Follow the BDS instructions, find protests in your area if you can, boost as much information about Palestine as you can find, call your reps, and do not lose hope. The people of Palestine are not dead. They are holding on even through all this and we all owe it to them to do the same.
A Free Palestine will happen in our lifetimes. But it will be hard fought. So go out there and fight hard! The governments can’t hide from their own people forever. The companies can’t bleed cash forever. The people will win. So push until we do. Do not look away. Free Palestine

the way alice dyer has such a hold on me I'm still thinking about different headcanons for her ahhh
I've doodled her a lot too trying to figure out her design, when i finally have free time I'll unleash my different oiar crew designs because i have many ideas for them all
i do hope this time there's no "locked in" designs for the characters because seeing peoples widely differing designs is a lot of fun!
