“The First Lady Of Physics”- Dr.Chien-Shiung Wu
Born on May 31,1912 to parents Wu Zhong-Yi and Fan Fu-Hua as their second child, Chien-Shiung Wu would become a significant figure in the history due to her notable contributions in field of physics.
Her works include The Manhattan Project at Columbia University where she helped develop the process for separating uranium into uranium-235 and uranium-238 isotopes by gaseous diffusion.
She is best known for conducting the Wu experiment, which proved that parity is not conserved. Despite the experiment being named after and designed by her, she was not awarded the Noble Prize for Physics in 1957 while her male colleagues did.
Wu became the first person selected to receive Wolf Prize in Physics.
Wu was also the first woman with an honourary doctorate from Princeton University.
In 1958, her research helped answer important biological questions about blood and sickle cell anemia.
She was the first woman to serve as President of the American Physical Society.
She became the first woman to be honoured with the National Medal of Science in Physics, which is the highest presidential honor for American scientists.
