What is this? Pink Onyx AU is a Steven Universe AU focused on interactions between Steven and Jasper and is intended to be read after you have finished Steven Universe Future, as it contains many many spoilers for the series. If you have watched it already, great! Welcome! The goal is to bring you a Jasper redemption arc that we couldn’t get due to time and cooperate restraints on the Crewniverse. I hope you enjoy!

I do not own these characters or their likenesses except for the single fluffy thembo fusion I created for the story. This is just a fan comic.

Comic is PG-13 for some angsty themes, minor blood, violence, and gem-cussing.

When do you post? Typically when you see this post pinned, I’m on a bit of a break, but when Nyx wakes up (this post goes away) the comic is due to be released 1 page at a time at 7am EST most days. I try for a daily release. Sometimes I skip a day if I’m behind. Episode release dates are always announced ahead of time by a few weeks.

Is this a romantic ship AU between Jasper and Steven? Nope, more like an aunt and her nephew trying to figure it all out. No romance between these two here.

What kind of fusion is Pink Onyx? Are they good or bad? Pink Onyx is a fusion of a protagonist and an antagonist, so their alliance is yet unknown, but they have Steven’s good heart and Jasper’s loyal nature. They also have Steven and Jasper’s flaws, so they can be volatile and emotionally explosive at times, too.

What are Pink Onyx’s pronouns? Onyx likes they/them, but also answers to he/him and she/her, especially when Steven or Jasper is dominant over one another. They also seem to take on a fluid role and prefer a she/her when in a caretaker status. They dislike it/its.

What does Pink Onyx sound like? Personally, I hear them as a youthful, masculine tone. Like Steven if a little older. But I also enjoy when people say they hear them as a gruff, Amazonian-type feminine. I enjoy and endorse both.

Do Jasper and Steven enjoy being fused to one another? For now, it is a struggle, but they enjoy what the other brings to the fusion even if they won’t say it.

Does Pink Onyx need to eat and do human things? If so, do they enjoy it? They don’t need to do them, but they do feel the discomfort without them. Things like breathing, eating, and sleeping are optional for Onyx, but they will become quite irritable if not allowed to do them. They greatly enjoy sleeping and trying new foods.

What does Jasper think about having human organs when fused? She’s pretty grossed out by the idea of organic matter going into her mouth and coming out of other places. The heart beating and lungs breathing she can feel for the first time, and it is highly strange for her to experience.

What is Pink Onyx’s favorite food? They adore anything watermelon flavored and Cookie-cat ice cream products

Does Pink Onyx have any special fusion powers? They do, and as they learn about themselves, more powers seem to come out. Each of their base component appears to be enhanced in a unique way. They have Pink Diamond at their core, so the destructive potential is also there.

Why is Steven hiding Pink Onyx from others? This AU occurs directly after the events of "I Am My Monster", so Steven is very emotionally, and mentally, raw. He fears judgement for running back to Jasper, who in the past, was part of so much trauma he already endured.

Pink Onyx seems to know nothing about human culture and gem culture despite being a fusion. What’s going on? Jasper and Steven agreed to fuse, but they have yet to open up to one another about much else. The fusion exists because they agree to do so, but Jasper won’t open up about her emotions, and Steven is so sensitive yet that he is not sharing because he knows Jasper won’t want to hear it. This causes Onyx to be unable to access both of their memories easily, but they can bring it out with enough effort.

Protection VS Destruction

A furiously protective father vs the killer of anomalies

Alrighty, so! As stated about this art shows one of if not The main conflict of Splattertale, with the reveal of our main antagonist, Error!

Because ofc no Ink-Centric story is complete without Error as an antagonistic force of SOME kind.

I kid, there are obviously options where he’s not lol.

But yeah. Also he’s not really a villain here he’s just, opposed to the protagonists. Which makes him an antagonist! Because he… wants to kill Ink’s kid for being a glitch… Okay maybe that’s a BIT villainous, but he’s just doing his job! It’s nothing personal… right Ink? Right… ?

Also I know Ink looks SUPER pissed off and protective here but I wanna make it clear he DOESN’T hate Error in this story. Has some.. complicated feelings about him (None of them romantic, Sorry-not-sorry ErrorInk fans, I’m just not into it), but none of them are Hatred. In fact he’s tried to befriend Error several times in the past! Though that can’t exactly work out now… (trying to hunt down someone’s kid to delete them for being a “mistake” kinda puts a damper on your potential friendship with them :/)

Splatter’s soul is indeed a human soul. How this is possible I will explain later, but for now just know that her creation isn’t exactly natural. It’s devoid of any trait, which is why it’s white like a monster soul, and has very low DETERMINATION for a soul of its type. Still way more than a monster soul can have, but low for a human’s.

Being a “freak of nature” like that has landed her quite on Error’s list of “Things to Destroy”

This drawing also features my personal interpretation of the Doodlesphere! I sorta combined the two canon versions, the Floating Islands and Buckets. The Splattertale-verse Doodlesphere is comprised of floating islands that hold deep lakes of paint as entry points into the respective AUs. Each island is decorated with items that represent the AU it leads to!

With this in mind, try and guess which AU is which ;3

The appearance of the island also reflects the state of the AU, hence why Xtale is cracked and leaking (because of its destruction), and why Dreamtale looks so dull. With its stump of a tree and unbalanced paint-lake (it used to be a beautiful mix of yellow and purple)

So yeah, I think that’s all I have to say abt this piece for now! Don’t worry I’m gonna elaborate on these little lore bits in time! This entire story rotates in my brain like it’s in a microwave on a daily basis lmao

I was scrolling thru some of ur older beanstalked stuff and I think the whole concept of Vine!Jack is hella cool. Could u maybe recap the lore on him? 👉🏾👈🏾

Vine is basically just Jack but from an alternate universe where he didn't take as well to the news he was Bookmarked. He is basically the villain AU version of Jack. I call him Vine because it is a mouthful always saying "Evil Jack" and he has so much to him he also serves as his own character from time to time.

Some deep creation lore is that Vine kind of comes from the concept of the original fairy tale of Jack and the Beanstalk where the OG Jack can be viewed as a good guy or a bad guy. The Jack we have in Beanstalked follows the good guy approach since when I first read the tale as a kid, I always saw the original Jack as a protagonist. However, there's a lot of morally grey ground in that fable so many can easily view the fairy tale character as an antagonist and more of a trickster instead of a "good boy".

Deeper lore under cut

For the in canon lore of this AU, Vine is what happens when Jack is so fed up and angry with suddenly being forced into becoming Bookmarked that he just swallows the beans instead of planting them. This leads to the magic inside of them reacting with his body which nearly kills him. Thankfully, or unfortunately, Nevermore discovers Jack on his last legs and decides to help him under the condition he works for her. She gives him a real good sell on writing his own story and not abiding by the rules of some ancient omnipotent book.

Jack agrees and he is saved, resulting in him gaining vine abilities and even the power to grow beanstalks at will raging from small to massive. His eyes also shift to being his Slayer mode green by default.

With Nevermore acting in sorts as his fairy godmother instead of Oriana, the one we have in canon, Jack is a lot less of the oblivious goof we are used to and is more sly and up to a fight for the fun of it. He is willing to help others but for a price-whether it be gold, goods, or favors.

In this AU-Jack is one of the most dangerous members of Nevermore's little henchmen group because he is very tricky and his ability for controlling vines and giant beanstalks means he can literally change the battle field however he sees fit. He isn't completely heartless though as he still has some of the farm boy we know and love in him. Those he are closes to are the only ones who see his green eyes shift back to gold.

In this AU, his relationship with Nana is full of tension as he is a flirt towards her. She ain't with him being a smart ass but she does feel an allure to him when he is being genuine. She's about the only one who sees his softer golden eyed side the most.

MC Concepts?

ok, so even before the Au I had in mind, I had a couple of ideas upon what would MC would be like or based upon the character and even had some weird plot idea a few years back.

So let's begin upon the first idea concept, the first idea upon how I would imagine Mc in the AU (or even in the main thing) would be of a familiar someone that would kinda makes sense in context, a Disney character rather so underrated that he's rarely seen in Disney.

That is being, this guy...

Basically from what I know at least I haven't seen anyone making a MC or a Oc version of him since there were rather easy clues in Twisted Wonderland that had some deja vu in Epic Mickey (blots, Mickey from the other side of the mirror, rarely has much interractions, and some more evidence that I'll add later) and I would want to have Oswald to have some light and popularity again, even if it's just a minor thing since I had found out he was cancelled out of the content for a kingdom hearts game.

And I would also think it would particularly work since of this rather particularly scenes in Epic Mickey comparison to Twisted Wonderland.

Notice how in Twisted Wonderland, Mickey looks like from the old cartoon of his and not his iconic one.

The image you seen in Twisted Wonderland is not only a reference to a Mickey Short "Thru the Mirror", but also the beginning scene to the Epic Mickey game. And with some evidence I had mentioned, it would mainly make sense there would be referencing to the actual game, but few things particularly had me questioned. What about Oswald? What ever happened to him?

So upon theory that MC can secretly Is a Twst Oswald (even if it's not canon sadly, at least in a headcannon) who needed to fix something that Mickey could not (or is trying to do but failing). Of Why Crowley would particularly needed MC to begin with despite with the possible pretending he's making of him trying to send them home and meeting them for the first time, believing it was another student. Or Rather in Chapter Seven..

Before we continue, I suggest that you may want to move past down or don't read this part cause it has some contain spoilers of part 2. Just know, SPOILERS AHEAD!

Are we good..? ..good!

Anyways, or like in Chapter Seven of where Malleus had said "You will all become the protagonist of this fairytale" after he overblotted and cast everyone, even Yuu/MC to sleep/kidnap them in thorns? Likely how Maleficint comes to Philip's prison cell to taunt him of how he's the valiant hero of a fairytale come true. And I would think upon the theory MC's dreams would be either similar to Oswald's or what would had it been like if Oswald was still with Disney/Mickey never exist, of what shorts and movies that Mickey made would become Oswald's instead.

And perhaps then, maybe, Mickey might have been the one to take Oswald's place. Of where everyone knows and loves Oswald and Mickey became a forgotten toon just like many others.

To have the dream that Oswald never had achieved because of what happened between Universal and Disney years ago that he cannot easily control. That he was once happy before he was then ripped away from Disney's arms. Just like in this video.

(Thinking about it, it's almost a similar backstory to Lotso's from Toy Story 3 but didn't turn evil)

Actually speaking of which, from what I also remember Oswald was supposed to be in the antagonist in the original Epic Mickey game thanks to some concept art of it. Which they had a plan but decided to scrap most of the main idea of him being the villain but would still act a bit mean and jealous over Mickey since he was replaced by him and both Mickey and Oswald technically didn't know each other at the beginning until both warmed up for each other. Despite his flaws, he's still a good person that is helping around the forgotten toons to have a place they feel belonged and is rather devastated after loosing Ortensia to The Blot after sending it away.

Which there is a potential chance that this would be a Overblot version of MC/Yuu if pushed comes to shove.

But thinking throughout upon Twisted Wonderland, Yuu/MC becomes cleared and clever throughout the other chapters of how to attempt to stop the "villian" and save the day though luck and planning. Not to mention in part 1 of chapter seven, Yuu/MC immediately recognized who Maleficint was and headed to the plaza where her statue was where Yuu/MC would be both conflicted upon their dream but also finding clues how to try and prevent another overblot. of course Yuu/MC would have some antagonistics upon them of where they had been stressed and almost died mutiple times (or more likely wanting to kill their/her/his friends after many stupid shenanigans they dragged them in or Crowley gaslights them so he wouldn't be the one in trouble. This is why we prefer Mr. Crewel as a father figure, Crowley.)

Ok..hopefully with Concept idea #1 out of the way, here's Concept idea #2.

So for the other concept of mine is Mc/Yuu being another Disney Character but this time in a obviously well known movie you all probably would know or already watched Encanto. That MC/Yuu being a Twst Mirabel.

Hopefully this will be a lot shorter but I'll try my best to clear some things out. To not be confused, the concept idea is Yuu/MC being twst Mirabel, not Yuu/MC being a part of the Madrigals or Mirabel in Twisted Wonderland thought I like the concept upon those ideas since they were creative.

So upon context that I would believe that Mirabel wanted to belong in the Family Madrigal despite her having no gift and how some of her family members (Mainly Alma and Isabela) sees her as a sort of outcast of the family like her uncle, Bruno, who's painted as the villain but is actually a nice guy. When she suddenly sees the cracks from the house, she's trying to find answers of what is happening and how to save the Miracle. Going onto a adventure and talking to the other family members in hope of any information, luckily thanks to Luisa, she finds out that there was a vision that Bruno left behind that of her having two possible outcomes, either her destroying or saving Casita. That the reason why Bruno left because he wanted to protect her from making Mirabel having more of a worse outcome than it already is with her. Soon Mirabel and Bruno found a way to help the candle by hugging her sister, Isabela which at first doesn't want to and thinks it's pointless to try but needed to given a chance. Also promising that she will help Bruno come back home. Of course Isabela and Mirabel talk it out, shared a moment, hugged and shown how Isabela was forced to become perfect in the daily based until she realized she didn't needed to be perfect, she needed to be herself.

Every seemed fine until Alma came and blames on Mirabel for Bruno leaving, Isabela out of control, the cracks from the house, Luisa losing magic, having no gift when she was litterally five years old person and basically saying that Mirabel is the one who is hurting this family, concidering that she wasn't apart of this family to begin with. Mirabel rightfully lashes out of how neither of the family wouldn't be good enough to Alma's standards and how Alma is the reason why the magic was dying to begin with because of her fear and standards pushed to far upon the family that without their gifts, they are nothing because she expected perfection of everyone and leaving Mirabel out of it as if she's never considered as family. Soon the Cracks got worse, house got destroyed and Mirabel runs off where the others are looking for her. And Alma confronts Mirabel who's apologizing but Alma sits by her, admitting her faults and her actual story, knowing now that it is her fault and Mirabel becomes to understand and forgives her, they hug out and returned home with Bruno to fix the house and having the family repairing, the magic returns with everyone in the family included. (Minor Critique that I would think Mirabel wouldn't completely forgive Alma, but would need a bit of time to forgive her but still does understand like in the deleted scene without the mom dying but I would think in time she and Bruno would eventually forgive Alma. But i think the reason they forgive her immediately or didn't question about it because it's Disney and wanted everyone to have a happy ending and it was almost over.)

While Yuu/MC is isekaied into another world filled with magic, who is magicless and must solve and stop the incidents and overblots that are happening to NRC. Having to involve/dragged themself/herself/himself into this scenarios of life and death from the overblots, some bullying that had been into or had gotten into with either the dormleaders or dorm students, Crowley gaslighting, neglect and blackmail, and which would eventually lead them into PTSD after the shit they had been through and eventually needed a therapist of their own, but does and can relate through the people that Yuu/MC are close to and to learn upon their mistakes to make up what they have done while trying to find a way back home.

of course some of it's similarities between Yuu/MC and Mirabel that both are magicless, needing some therapy and is helping people getting through their problems and their mistakes to become a better person. And I would especially think we would need to get Yuu/MC's Backstory since the Manga's MCs/Yuus are different each time (most likely) and I would think Yuu/MC having a very similar scenerio with Mirabel would probably be a compelling way of a backstory since both with Mirabel and Oswald are overlooked and wanted to be belonged, showing them that they got what it takes to be a somebody to them.

Though of course both of them are vastly different but I would think either of them might work for at least my version (Either Aus or headcannon) of Yuu/MC, regardless of what gender or race they are.

And now, hopefully for the most rather weird plot/backstory idea of what I would think could be interesting but not exactly sure due to how unsure how it's going to work since it would work for another Au where Twisted Wonderland is in a more Fantasy Era.

So to Kinda keep it short as possible, Yuu/MC is cursed by a unfamiliar source that endangers both their/her/his home and Twisted Wonderland where they are "the outcast" upon their family and noticed something was going on due to a black marking on their hand, like a cut that's dripping down a drop of black ink mixed with blood, having the cracks seen as a sign of danger. They talked to their/her/his family to see what's going on, realizing some of them knew about something that they won't tell Yuu/MC.

Eventually some disaster insurance after finding a mysterious spell book, glowing green-glass shards and paintbrush and eventually Yuu/MC in a angered state decided if their/her/his family won't tell them/her/him about the mysterious curse, they'll have to find out themself.

As they were just about to leave their home, they spotted something from the distance that calls to them to follow. They do, leading upto where they see the very thing falling into a rabbit hole that looks like a very deep well. They fell into the well's water before a few spects of magic began surrounding them as they became a shooting star before suddenly falling down to Twisted Wonderland, or at least the gateway towards it.

They are tested to pass through the gate and succeeded, Confronting either some of the RSA or NRC students in the Fantasy AU where they believe Yuu/ MC is the powerful magician that was gifted upon one of the most powerful artifacts that along with it's guardian was lost centuries ago along with the one whom had possessed the very two rare artifacts.

The mysterious spellbook is not only a book full of almost every spell but actually a storybook of all Disney Characters posing a sort of prophecies coming to life into an alternate retelling that can change fate, ending, and how they became to be, that being called The Book of Legacies, and with the Paintbrush of Imaginations, it can create living beings, pathways to worlds, even items that seemed to be lost.

The second being a candle that granted a miracle that can provide or in case help the adventurer upon what they would need to set things right and save the day. And to prove whom is worthy and whom is not, or more likely who can be redeemed and who cannot.

There will be more Lore with the Book and the Candle upon the Pomfiore Arc, which it would possibility merged with the Glorious Mascarade event.

However when the students and Yuu/MC opens the Book to Ambrose the Wizard, (Since he's possibly Merlin from the Sword and the Stone). Where they shown of a story of how their/his/her ancestor who was a student of the eldest sorceror (Yen-Sid) who lives upon the farthest star, the second star to the right, whom locks away a powerful god that was cursed away, never dared to be freed for he's the eternal ruler of evil that brings death and destruction to all, (That being Chernobog from Fantasia)

However Yuu/MC told them that they're/She's/He's not their ancestor and ended up there by accident because they follow something glowing from the distance and showed the marking that they had on their hand. Of course most of them were surprised, afraid and shocked of the very marking.

For it was a marking of a dark prophecy, a curse that would come to Twisted Wonderland and release Chernobog with the Seven Crystals of Darkness alongside "the Great Seven" returning back from the dead and would receive their "gracious gift" to whomever is the one who's with/brings the Cursed Chosen to it's destination and release him from his eternal cage upon the highest mountain. And in order for them find out how to break the cursed is to find their family member that too was in Twisted Wonderland years ago but had been captured into a far kingdom where no one could have or dare to find them because they were the only one who knows how to break it.

And it is up to Yuu/MC to find clues of where their/his/her family member is and rescue them and hopefully save everyone.

As for the Non-Disney School Au, I would think Yuu is particularly a mix of being Non/Disney that is stuck in a world of magic. They would be tricked into staying their for a while because they thought the headmistress would understand and be the one to promise their way back home. Or at least that's the jift of things.

But like I said these are just some concepts of my version of MC/Yuu and probably can eventually figure out the full version of it. But I did not expected to be this long than I wanted to be. So I'm very sorry if it's already too confusing as much but hopefully, hopefully we might have a more clear viewing upon the Au. Of course I'm still looking up a few Non Disney movies to intell and I know I'll add DreamWorks in it, but if you want to tell me any other non disney villians that I can see added in (besides DreamWorks since it's more likely going to be added in). Let me know, but remember it has to be a animated film that isn't Disney so sadly no live-action ones. Until then, hope you guys have a very lucky day! The long-awaited (by me) “Underground Blossom” was released today. I played, enjoyed it and want to write down some of my thoughts regarding everything shown there.

🔴 If it’s not already obvious, achtung: there are spoilers everywhere, so continue to read at our own risk! 🔴

🦜It seems that Harvey actually remained enlightened for much longer than people in fandom previously assumed. UB doesn’t shy away from metaphors, but the fact that Harvey actually replaced Laura’s parent and somehow successfully handled responsibilities of caring for a human child, as well as the fact that other, non-important children also saw the parrot precisely as an anthropomorphic bird in a suit, quite directly illustrates that this guy all this time, throughout the girl’s growing up, really was like that, and not just a normal pet parrot. I believe in this version of a story: Harvey the Hotel worker, Harvey the confidant of Mr. Owl, Harvey the Eilander family killer did not die and was not reborn, descending along the wheel of Samsara to the level of an animal. Enlightened ones simply know how to temporarily change their form to an animal-like one, and this is precisely what he did, perhaps in order to hide from the same embittered escaped corrupt souls or for some other reason. Mr Crow did something similar in “Cube Escape: Paradox,” if my memory serves me right, turning into the more familiar for us form of a crow. This would explain why Vanderboom depicted our anthropomorphic protagonist in one of her drawings as a pet parrot in a cage. And also the fact that he retains his completely human mind in animal form (demonstrated when solving puzzles in “Harvey’s box”) can be explained this way.

💧I still adhere to the idea, that Rose in this game was not really eager to resurrect Albert. This idea is rather based on my personal preferences, because Rose, who renounced her father, appeals to me as a character much more, so here I ask you not to treat this exact point as a full-fledged theory regarding canon events. Let's discard my old partially-hypothesis-partially-AU about “The past within” and “Underground blossom” being different timelines (like something similar that has already been shown before - in the Bob’s fate, where in some games he dies or commits suicide, and in “The White Door” forgets Laura and begins to live a normal life). It is clearly not the case; now it is more than clear that one game is directly connected to the other. However, here's what could happen: Miss Vanderboom receives a letter from recently deceased Albert, along with a mission to bring him back to life. Initially, she is interested in this and actively works on the task, but at some point something clicks in her and the understanding comes that it is better to leave a possibly dangerous person where he cannot harm anyone. Perhaps getting closer to her cousins had an impact. So, Rose no longer wants to carry out this ritual, and this automatically calls everything into question, because even though she in the Past may have completed her part of the work, now, without her desire in the Present, she from the Future may not complete hers. A paradox. Albert's soul, of course, did not appreciate the joke and wants to make sure that his daughter does what she should, whether she wants it or not. When Harvey begins to visit to her, she already understands perfectly well that her father will not give up so easily. She understands that he will most likely try to harm her or her daughter. She understands that she may have to make very serious sacrifices so that Laura, the most precious thing she has left, does not suffer at the hands of her grandfather - and disappears from her life. Afterall, She will be better off with Harvey.

🌳 I'm still sticking to my Naraka theory. Rose somehow managed to preserve her humanity even in this form, and she thanks her old friend for all the help, and by giving her beloved daughter a piece of her soul - the petals - she helps her start living from scratch, now not suffering from psychological problems so much. I don’t know how literally the final level should be taken and how much the girl’s return to life depended on the mother (after all, in “Seasons” everything was presented kind of differently), but I think you can perceive it as you like.

To sum it up, I just want to say that “Undergroung Blossom” left me feeling incredibly warm and.. cozy? An impression that I honestly never expected from a game in this series, full of darkness, suffering and all sorts of devilry. Despite the fact that there are such things too, the theme of family and sincere care for someone dear to you runs like a red thread throughout the entire story. And all this is consolidated with such a bright ending, after which even Rose’s terrible posthumous fate is ultimately not viewed as critically as before, which... I can’t. It’s wholesome. As wholesome as Rusty lake game can be.

20 Questions More

This is a deeper and more detailed version of the 20 questions for AO3 fanfic writers.

I yanked the questions from someone in the supercorp fandom. I forget who. I never get tagged since I'm not really well known writer yet (I'm still a tumblr newbie!), so I'm doing this just for funsies and because I like answering questions.

I will be answering this for the supercorp and korrasami fandoms. My works are here (though I do one-shots on tumblr sometimes).

1) How do you keep getting ideas for your ship / fandom?

By existing, reading, listening, writing, watching things, staring at the sky and watching the clouds drift by. Seriously, my ADHD's superpower is generating ideas. So I have way too many of them, and I have a note in my Scrivener projects with all the ideas. If anyone needs more ideas, I'll spin out so many. lol

2) Which authors inspire you in your fandom, and why are they so freakishly good?

So for the Korrasami fandom, that would be @korrasamibottles for their fantastic oneshots, Progman for one of the best post-series fics I've ever read (seriously, the Asami Sato of RRU is awesome), Shigan for some amazing korrasami oneshots, FuzziFox for an adorable and action-y AU where Asami goes south with Korra, lovedeathcats for the best Indiana Jones AU ever, RainbowRosie for a great AU where bending has vanished, paxbanana's Place in the World is an interesting AU take on Korrasami. @asamiontop's Modern world AU is a must read (she also has some great supercorp one-shots). For supercorp? @jazzfordshire has exquisitely written fics, everything @fazedlight writes is gold, @snowydragonscave's oneshots are adorable, @mycatismyeditor has some great AU's that really dig into the characters, @ekingston has some of the best written AU's I've ever read, @karalovesallthegirls has the most hilarious fics ever (Mime fic), robie's AUs are some of the best slow burn I've read, TheUnforgivingMinute wrote a fantastic spookysupercorp, @coffeeshib floored me with their gorgeous prose, @rustingcat not only does amazing art but the fics are such a great slow burn, @chaotic-super's back to Krypton was absolutely goldmine of fun and digging into the lore of Krypton. I could go on. Let's just say I LOVE Y'all's fics. The above are the people who had the most impact on me personally. Where I learned the art of fanfic writing. Since I'm a science fiction writer, I tend toward creative writing techniques that don't always jive well in the fandom realm, so learning from others helps me refine my writing to use the least amount of words for the biggest impact possible. It's also great practice for my original fiction honestly.

3) Aside from the characters of your main ship, who are the characters you love to write?

I really love writing Sam Arias. Nia is also super fun to write, and writing Brainy and Lena arguing about science is always fun too. Alex is a littler harder for me to write (her snark is hard for me to capture), but she's a blast once I get in the right headspace for it. For Korrasami, I really love writing Jinora and Bolin. Asami considers both of them basically siblings at this point, and Korra does too actually. heh.

4) Are there pairings or tropes you know for sure you'd never write about? Which ones?

I will NEVER EVER writing Makorra - that is a clusterfuck I will never touch. Hell, it's why I didn't rewrite book 1 of TLOK for my Shared Moments series because I really didn't want to touch it at all. lol I just skipped to the six months after and started there. I'll NEVER write Lames or any relationship that features Mon-el. Nope. Not touching it. I prefer to write sapphic pairings for the main protagonists. Sure, side characters can have het pairings (like Brainy and Nia), but I won't write a fic with them as the focus. Other folks can do that.

5) What is your writing process and why is it cursed?

Step 1: Wake up, wash up, and get tea. Step 2. Cuddle the cat to prepare myself. Step 3: Put on my compression gloves and stretch my arms. Step 4: Put on the correct playlist (absolutely essential step otherwise it'll throw off the entire scene and then I have to start over.) Step 5: Try to avoid Tumblr. (Doesn't always work, this place is cursed I swear. lol) Step 6. Open Scrivener project (who am I kidding, these primary projects are always open on m computer). Write while my brain is cooperating. (30 to 40 minutes before I got to rest for 45 minutes then I can start writing again. Chronic illness sucks like that.) Step 7: realize I need to research something and lose two hours to that. Step 8: AO3 emailed me! Who commented this time! Oh noes, now I've fallen down the looking at the Internets.

The other thing I do is carry my journal everywhere to document everything and end up with some weird random poetry, drawings, and dialogue from people I overhear. Oh, and on bad brain days, I'll draw cursed images.

I also use Scrivener and go all haywire on all its features to a ridiculous extent. Like, I try to stuff ALL my outlines, research, scenes, into that Scrivener so it's all in one place, that way I don't forget anything. It makes for large projects. ha.

6) What is your favorite part of your writing process?

Incorporating my research into the story in subtle ways to fill out the world and immerse the reader more fully. It's fun to put some of this research in the end-notes for my fics on AO3. (The power AO3 gave us writers with those end-notes!!)

7) What’s the weirdest thing you’ve had to research for a fic?

Maturation of bird species and the DNA overlap with human beings to see if I can craft an alien species that is at least 90% DNA similar to humans but is more birdlike.

I looked up the absorption of chemicals through skin. (This is why I use duckduck go for anonymity for this sort of stuff. LOL)

8) Is there a particular writing rule you struggle with (grammar, spelling, tense, reality in general)?

Reality in general - ha. Seriously though, the chronic illness makes it really hard to concentrate and have energy for writing or really anything. The second thing I struggle with is I have an annoying habit of adapting my tenses to what I'd last read. So if the story I read was past-tense, I'll jump into my writing using past tense (which most of my stories is that tense, but there's two that aren't so that's when it gets annoying).

9) What was your hardest scene to write so far and why?

The hardest scene was the end of Book 3 for Shared Moments for the Korrasami series. Both Asami and Korra (due to the bond they forged by accident at Harmonic Convergence) are captured by Zaheer, so that was a brutally painful set of scenes. Full of pain, fighting, poisoning, and a struggle to survive. I wept through it honestly. Whew. Yikes. For Supercorp, the hardest scene was when Nia assists Lena with her dreams and memories of her birth mother. Those were so sad and I totally teared up writing them. It was also hard to sort out the best way to reveal details without giving too much away either. Since Nia's powers are a little all over the place too.

10) Have your characters ever done something you didn’t expect, changing your plot completely?

All the time! For the TLOK: Shared Moments series, Asami keeps surprising me, so I often have to sit down and remap her timeline, and it always enriches the entire series. For Supercorp, Nia keeps doing things that surprise me. She's like this chaotic good agent that adds in humor and twists that enrich the tale in subtle ways I think. There's many other surprising moments the characters do. That's half the fun! Seeing where the characters end up and if I need to adjust my plans. :D

11) If you could converse with any of the characters, who would it be and why?

That's a tie between Asami Sato and Lena Luthor honestly. But then I sort of think of them as basically the same person (Lena may be more neutral in temperament while Asami is chaotic good. Also, Asami isn't afraid to fly planes and crash them for Korra. Lena would prefer no flying. lol). I just wanna talk science with them. Oh and ask them about how in-love they are with Korra and Kara respectively. (Lena will try to deny it, but Asami will gush and admit it because she's a little more in touch with her feelings). I just love these two so much. :D

12) What are some of the tropes or themes that you find yourself returning to in your writing?

Healing journeys. I really enjoy writing healing from trauma, because I feel like it's so relevant for our times, and the characters never really get that in their series (well, Supergirl characters don't, and they really need it!).

The theme of chosen family is another theme I come to again and again. Partly due to how my life is -- my bio family is not healthy for me (outright abusive), so my chosen family is my real family. So I like to dig into those dynamics a lot.

I also tend to write the survivor narrative a lot. It's a more interesting narrative structure, but it's also less used so that can startle readers. Sometimes in good ways? A good example of a survivor narrative structure is TLOK actually.

Another good example of the survivor narrative is Sam Arias' journey in Season 3 of Supergirl. Maybe I'll write an essay someday on it.

13) What's your most important resource as a writer?

There's isn't any one most important resource. I'd say fellow writers and artists is a great resource, lore books is another, random research books (yes, I have a guide to weapons for writers, guide for poisons for writers, guide to x or y for writers, because I'm a nerd like that), the Internet, and lots of listening to others.

14) Can you share some of your strategies for editing and revising your work?

For editing/revising, I start with SPAG: spelling, punctuation, and grammar. Once I do a few run-throughs of that, then I look at the dialogue -- Is the dialogue true to the character's personality and quirks? Can I make the dialogue more succinct?

After that, I look at descriptions: Is the description immersive? Do I utilize the five senses in a concise way? Can I pare down the description while still keeping the immersive quality? Is there any description that doesn't add to the scene or character's growth and can that be moved to a different scene or saved for later?

Finally, I do a fresh read-through and check how it impacts my emotions. Do I laugh at the funny parts? Do I tear up at the sad/angst parts? Does it feel too dry or not emotive enough? What words could be used instead to better invoke emotions?

15) Which is worse: making the summary, picking the tags, or the anxiety when you post your fic?

Ugh, summaries are the worst. Sometimes it's easier to just pick an excerpt of a scene and slap that as the summary. Tags are even worse. I never know what to use for tags, especially since people seem to be kind of random with AO3 tags. I mean, I feel like some writers just will write a statement as a tag and it's amusing but also confusing.

16) How do you define success for your fanfic - hits? Kudos? Comments? Bookmarks? Or just if you like it?

I don't really measure success.

If I get comments from folks that say they're enjoying it? That's a source of joy for me but it's not about success. Because I'm writing mostly for my enjoyment, but to hear that others enjoy it too? Damn, that's like the best news ever. It really helps me feel better about myself and my writing. Like I'm valued and not forgotten. That I actually have an impact. So yeah, go leave comments if you like stuff, please. Us writers love it.

17) Do you have a playlist for your favorite character / ship?

YES. I Always make a playlist for each project I do. I craft it based on their personality, their character arcs, the mood of the piece, and I focus on a variety of genres. I think about the lyrics of songs and try to match it all together. I might spend way more time on playlists than I need, but since I have them playing as I write, I need them to fit the mood and atmosphere to increase inspiration.

18) If fan art was going to be made from your work, which fic would you pick and which fan artist would you like to create it?

Um. Huh. This is a hard question. I try to draw my own, but I can't do color (y'all that do color, are freaking WIZARDS). I think Confession fic and the scene where Lena resurrects Kara, and if and when I have money again, I'd ask @rustingcat if commissions are open for them.

For Korrasami, I'd choose Book 3 or 3.5 but I'm not sure on the artist.

19) How many WIPs do you currently have?

UM. If I count just fanfics, probably fifteen. I'm actively working on six. (Three in each fandom. Two are usually shorter, and one is the longer fic) If we include original fiction and fanfiction? Uhhhhh. Hahahah, that's like twenty-five or so. I'm only working on one original fiction piece set on my SF world of Elivera.

20) What's your advice to new fanfic writers?

Pace yourself and take some time to edit and revise before posting. Also, take some time to review the transcripts and how the characters talk. That can give some fun insight into the characters and ways to expand on them in interesting ways.

Ask questions a lot! There's so many nice folks in the fandom, and folks are so kind about answering questions. I know because I still ask questions and talk to folks about this, and more seasoned writers have been so lovely.

Write what you want. Don't write for your readers (unless someone requests and pays you for a fic, then I guess write for them. lol) but otherwise, write what you want. This is supposed to be fun. If you're getting stressed out, take a break otherwise you will get burned out. To avoid burn out, take time to rest. Read a bit, do fun hobbies, do some practice writing, and then dive back into your fic.

Yes, it's important to try to finish things, but don't feel pressured. Remember, having fun is crucial! It's okay to take your time. Readers will stick with you if they like your tale.

Gonna post a sort of story based on a batshit insane Pokémon headcanon I have

And it’s all based on this pic

Yes, you’re reading it right, my brain connected some weird ass dots. And I’ve even made a backstory for them in my brain which I’ll read now!

(just to clarify since some of my moots were confused: Latiaos canonically are a proper species with multiple specimens, there are mentions of them having flocks in the Pokédex and in the Japanese version of the Heroes movie it’s directly shown theres multiple of them. A lot of you probably know but this is just for those who don’t)

So! Pretty much all of my Pokémon stuff is set in the same universe, which I’m calling the Therianverse because a good amount of the protagonists in the stories are shapeshifting Pokemon who take human form

One of the main things in this AU is that pretty much all Pokémon are unambiguously sapient, and also are allowed to be trainers.

Now that I’ve explained how this universe works, I’ll talk about these fellas

In the Sevii Archipelago, there lived a couple, named Melusine and Luster. Sometimes, they would visit towns for a bit before disappearing for a while, then visiting different towns. They were kind folks, so they were a welcome sight whenever they appeared. One could always recognize them by the mysterious orbs they wore on wrist bracelets, but no one could’ve known that these were in fact, the key to their disguises.

The orbs, properly known as Soul Dew, were objects with amazing magical powers, including the ability to shapeshift. The couple were in fact Latiaos, flying from island to island. Of course, this probably wouldn’t have changed most people’s opinions that much, but the couple did have reason to worry…

At one point, they would disappear for a much longer time than usual. In fact, this time was years. People thought that they would have left, of course. But they hadn’t. They still disguised themselves, though, they needed to keep their children safe, after all.

The twins were to stay home, for they didn’t get the grasp of shapeshifting for a while. Their parents were happy to help, though, and soon enough, they would go out to meet the world. The parents would “return”, this time with their children, and the story that they had moved to raise their children elsewhere.

The children were very much adored by the townsfolk, and led happy lives with their parents. So it was a bit of a shock when their parents would have a second pair of babies.

They weren’t particularly excited about this new development, worried that they wouldn’t be as loved anymore. Of course, their parents would assure them that they were okay, but the children wouldn’t accept this.

At some point, the parents would actually leave to meet with their friends far away. The children and the townsfolk knew it wasn’t for long though, especially since they said that they’d only be gone for a few days.

When a few days passed by, they didn’t return.

When a week passed by, they didn’t return.

When a month passed by, they didn’t return.

Of course, the worst was assumed. Their children were especially hurt, not helped by the fact that they would have to raise their siblings. Fortunately, some of their family friends offered to help them raise the new siblings.

Just under a year later, the new children would hatch, and were given the Soul Dews that their parents had made before their birth.

Seven years would pass. The two older children had found their names (AN: in this au, pokemon culture has pokemon name themselves rather than their parents do so): Lucian and Lorelei. They were around 17 years of age, two years after one could legally become a Trainer. Neither was particularly interested in the prospect, as they still had to help raise their little siblings. And their siblings were starting to become clawfulls with their mischief and curiousity.

So at night, the little siblings had begun a routine of flying around at night when people wouldn’t see them. (Their big siblings knew because y’know, psychics, but couldn’t really stop them from that) But one night, they flew all the way into morning, when there were people to see them… Specifically, Team Rocket.

Suddenly, they were struck by something, and fell from the sky. When they realized what had happened, they tried to escape, but one had been hit by a Sticky Web and couldn’t move themself. So their twin would help them get out, leaving themself vulnerable to capture.

One escaped from the web. The other didn’t return home.

The elder siblings had a feeling something like this would happen, but they at least hoped that it would involve both of the twins returning and them getting a lecture. But a lecture would be too cruel now. They had to do something. They knew their little sibling would be safe with their caretakers and understand to be careful. They would set off in the dead of night to rescue their lost sibling.

This, however, was still a cruelty to the sibling who was abandoned, they had thought their siblings hated them so much that they didn’t want to deal with them anymore. And for several years, they would live in guilt… until they received a mysterious vision.

There’s more to the story, but that’s the basic backstory. Fortunately all the siblings have nicer lives now, Lorelei became part of the Kanto-Johto Elite Four and retired, Lucian stayed on the Sinnoh E4, Will escaped kidnapping (though losing two of his eyes in the process) and would become part of the Kanto-Johto E4 once Lorelei retired, and Anabel would reunite with her twin and also make amends with her elder siblings (though it did kinda generally make them bitter) and also joined the Hoenn Battle Frontier, and also is Looker’s assistant with his detective stuff, though that’s more relevant to the Sun/Moon part of this AU.

For some clarification: the parents are probably dead, haven’t quite figured that out yet. Also I had the idea that Latiaos can change their scale color depending on their gender identity, and since Will and Anabel are nonbinary they’re purple :]

No one dared to brave the castle deep in the snowy woods. The legends told obscure tales of lost souls that followed the singing voice through the trees. And yet, you don’t believe it. What awaits inside the palace’s rooms?

Something special I wanted to write based on TRIGGER’s spooky night artworks ! I’m not sure I’ll be able to write one for each of them, but I wanted to at least post one for my dear Tenn 🩷 I hope it’s an enjoyable read for you all <3

Don’t step into the woods in winter.

Those were the words you had grown up hearing, ever since you were a toddler, cuddled up in bed with your stuffed animals, as your mother told you stories.

You had heard the legend countless times, and yet, you couldn’t help the fascination that came with it.

No one knows what lies at the end of the snowy lane.

The trees sing, and those who dance to their wintry song lose themselves, never returning the same.

Why? What hid in that forest that could be so scary?

Despite all the warning signs, the more you heard the tale, the more intent you became on deciphering this enigma.

Theoretically, there was some kind of palace or fortress past the woods.

Or at least, you had been able to infer as much after thorough research on the topic, varying versions of the tale being depicted in the books at the local library.

Still, there were missing pieces to this puzzle…

Something is definitely not adding up.

And so, now here you stand, in front of warnings inscribed in blood red, an attempt to dissuade trespassers or utterly reckless souls.

You take a deep breath.

Then, you step inside, under the decrepit tree canopies that seem to curve into each other, obscuring the soon to be dusk sky.

Nothing seems amiss so far, you think, as your footsteps leave indentations in the pristine snow.

Just… the silence.

It’s a little overwhelming. As if the tortuous branches were holding their breath.

They are too still now that you pay more attention to them…

Your steps suddenly feel too loud. Even your breath forming puffs before you seems to intrude in the silence of the trees.

The calm before the storm.

For, the next thing you know, music fills the gelid grove.

Or rather, a voice.

It’s… gentle, soft… like…

An angel’s.

You feel compelled to follow it, the trees swaying now, a gentle breeze lifting up rivulets of snow, glittering against the twilit sky like starlight.

And yet, you don’t feel cold.

You power forward, keeping your wits about you.

Whoever’s singing must be nearby.

By the time the crescent moon watches from her throne, and flecks of stardust are the only illumination in the woods, you reach the end of the road.

A huge building rises before you.

A castle, its walls of molten moon.

The bricks forming it have a bluish sheen to it. Almost as if…

You put your palm against the stone.

So cold.

Like ice.

You take a couple steps backwards, noticing the big picture.

The gates are open and warm light pours out of the windows.

The voice seems to emanate from them.

You step inside.

Despite the icyness of the exterior, the palace’s hall is warm, as if gentle sunshine was clinging to you.

And that melody.

You believe it’s that voice that’s keeping you warm.

It’s louder here, wrapping around you like your blankets did as a kid, as you listened to the story you’ve decided to become the protagonist of.

You follow the notes, until they stop.

A white door stands before you, a crystal handle shaped like a scaly wing beckoning you to turn it.

You swallow.

Silence again, like in the woods before your guiding song started.

For a moment, you close your eyes, steeling yourself.

You place a hand on the knob.

The door opens.

“Hello, outlander.” A male voice, the same voice that’s led you here, greets. “I’ve been waiting for you.”

Your eyes snap to the end of the room, where a table is set, someone already sitting down.

Maroon eyes meet yours, quartz-like, speckled in rosé in the dim light. The gaze is… harsh, cold, but beneath it you feel unbridled kindness, the sweetness of powdered sugar in chilly wintry dawns.

Framing them, deepest night and stardust seem to converge, the man’s long lashes casting shadows over the pools of sunrises contained in his stare.

Silken moonlight falls lightly around his face, perfectly framing his features.

He’s the prettiest being you’ve ever laid eyes upon.

Almost angelic, were it not for his frown and the tight line of his lips.

“Please, take a seat.” He gestures to the multiple empty chairs gathered around with the cup he’s holding.

Bright cobalt liquid glimmers inside of it, oddly enticing despite its unusual color.

And against your better judgment, you join him.

A crown of pure white hovers above his head, akin to a thorny halo, a spectral glow radiating from it.

A few moments pass in silence, with you trying not to stare at him (and failing).

You just… can’t take your eyes off him.

Who is he? What is he? A prince? But where is the rest of the court?

A fallen angel perhaps?

To live in this frigid plane… It must be so lonely, so desolate…

He graces you with a subtle smile, the melodic lilt of his voice pulling you out of your thoughts.

“All questions will be answered at tonight’s ball.” Your glass magically fills with the same blue liquid as his.

At your fearful expression, he chuckles.

“It’s not poisonous, rest assured.” As if to prove his point, he takes a sip from his own drink.

And that’s when you notice the lack of color on his lips.

Like faded peony blooms, washed out pink is overridden with nightshade.

Does he feel cold? You wonder, your brows furrowing in concern.

“Can I at least…” You begin, before you can stop yourself. “Know your name?”

You aren’t sure what made you ask this question, but something in you broke a little at the sadness and hurt you could see in those kind eyes, burdened by hardship.

“Tenn…” He softly utters. “My name.”

You give him a kind smile, introducing yourself.

“It is my pleasure to meet you, Tenn.”

The rest of the meal goes by in comfortable silence. The food feels homey and warming, regardless of the biting winter ruling these woods.

As for the blue drink… you temptatively take a sip. It’s cool and sweet, not unpleasant in the slightest.

After a while, something frigid touching your hand jolts you up from the tranquility.

You look down to see Tenn’s hand gently grabbing yours.

So cold…

“Come with me. Let us join the ball.”

You wonder if there’s anyone else in this castle, or if what he calls ‘ball’ is some kind of prison cell where he’s going to throw you in until you freeze to death.

However, you don’t feel any kind of animosity from him.

Tenn just seems… very sweet and very lonely too.

A soft symphony can be heard, its ebb and flow coming from somewhere higher; it gets louder as you and your host ascend spiraling stairs.

When you finally reach the top, Tenn pushes open a door.

Behind it, a dim lit room awaits, shadows of the starlight above reflected against its wooden floor, as a music box plays the incessant melancholy song.

You stare at him, wondering.

“Ah… Excuse..” You begin.

But then, the man turns to face you, brushing away a stray strand of hair from your face.

“Oh, yes, how could I forget? You will need a proper dress for the occasion.”

With a snap of his fingers, the corner of his frigid lips rises as he nods in approval.

When you look down, a silvery gown matching his own clothes falls around your waist. The skirt is adorned in flecks of blue glitter, like pieces of the fragmented sky through snowy clouds.

It’s beautiful… But how? Who is he really?

Well, you suppose this is the ball, so you take the chance to ask.

“Who… or what, are you?” You venture, as one of his cold hands laces with yours, the other on the small of your back.

“It’s complicated, and maybe you wouldn’t believe it… But I’m a prince.”

Well, you don’t doubt it with his looks.

“But why are you here? Prince of where?” You press forward, as he spins you around the starlit room.

He smiles, and you think the gesture is a little sad.

“I… left my kingdom. To protect my family. I’m supposed to be the keeper of these woods due to my powers, but…” He trails off, those long lashes fluttering closed as he exhales.

“You were cursed.” You finish the sentence for him.

Tenn’s rosy eyes widen, his movements faltering for a second.

“The ice… all the snow… this…” You stop dancing, holding his freezing hands. “This is your curse, right?” You give him a look of concern. “You protected everyone, but in doing so, all the warmth was stripped from you…”

He offers another woeful smile.

“You’re quite sharp, aren’t you?” He whispers, in the starry centimeters separating you two.

He touches his spiky halo.

“This… crown…” Tenn says, disdain and hurt lacing his voice. “Acts as a tether of sorts… It can’t be removed, it will only break when the curse is dispelled.”

In your breathless silence, you realize the music has halted.

You can’t leave him alone here.

You must find a way to help him.

“How can the curse be broken?” You ask, determined.

“That’s part of it. I can’t know.” The crescent moon illuminates his perfect profile.

How can someone so kind suffer this twisted fate all alone?

You’re not leaving here. Not until you find a way to revert Tenn’s curse.

“I’m staying with you.” You blurt out. “I’m staying here until I find the way to end this curse.”

“I can’t ask you to-“

“You’re not asking me to, I’m staying of my own volition.” You cut him off.

With that, the so called ball comes to an end for tonight.

Tenn shows you to a set of unused chambers, for you to stay in freely for as long as you’d like.

You say your goodnights and pass out without even bothering to change clothes.

Today’s been a long day.

Outside your door, Tenn’s cheeks feel a little warm.

When was the last time that happened?

He no longer recalls.

—

Days merge into weeks spent by the prince’s side.

Even if cold reigns around the palace grounds, you’re either getting used to it or the temperature has begun to rise.

Tenn knows very well it’s the latter.

During this time, you’ve learned more about his powers. Tenn possesses dragon magic. Sometimes he can summon wings and a tail, you’ve observed his flying figure many a time at dawn, the sun glinting off of the iridescent scales of his wings.

He’s beautiful.

And after all this time spent with him, you can’t deny the fact that you don’t want to ever leave this place.

Neither of you has voiced it yet, but it is clear you two share a bond that goes well past platonic.

You knew, since the evening nightmares plagued your dreams and he sang for you; in the way his hands (are they warmer now?) linger for a little longer after you two finish dancing, or when he passes a glass to you.

In this icy world, Tenn makes your heart flutter, impossible heat rising to your chest, to your face, sending tingles to your lips; an ache for him.

Would it be okay, if you revealed that to him?

You don’t want to burden him anymore than he already is… And yet, something inside you urges you to whisper the three magical words into his ear.

Luckily for you, tonight Tenn wants to have another ball with you.

You were notified previously this time, and you didn’t hesitate to don the dress the boy your heart belongs to gifted you on your first night here.

A full moon greets you tonight when you reach the attic room.

Multicolored starlight dances across the floor, its sheen entwining with the moonbeams that cast you and your beloved in an ethereal glow.

The nightly illumination catches on the silver accessory pinning the prince’s hair to one side, his crown of thorns dimmed.

No music accompanies the scene this time, as if the spinning ballerina from the music box knew that, for tonight, your heartbeats and your sincere words should take the spotlight.

You take the lead this time, one of your hands tenderly grasping Tenn’s, the other one resting on his shoulder, the silk from his clothes warm under your palm.

Warm.

He’s no longer freezing.

You steal a furtive glance towards his lips.

They’re not that dull frozen hue anymore, no.

A subtle pink fills them in, akin to cherry blossoms after long cold nights.

Your heart pounds faster; perhaps there is hope for the curse to break, maybe him not being alone is subduing its effects.

You must tell him.

“Tenn,” You call him, as you sway around the nightlit floor. “I have something to tell you.”

His hold tightens a little on you, as if he was afraid you’d melt away, an ephemeral ice statue, succumbing to the blazing rays of dawn.

“What is it, [Y/n]?” He asks, quartz-like gaze set on you, the sparkles from your dress and the constellations above, reflected in them.

You take a step closer to him, your noses almost touching.

“I think…” You start, then close your eyes for a moment. When you open them, you look at Tenn with resolve. “No, I’m sure.” Both of your hands find his, your thumbs running over the back of them, as if you were attempting to dissolve the remains of ice tainting them.

“I love you, Tenn.” You breathe, to him, to the moon, to the stars.

One moment you’re millimeters apart, and the next his lips caress yours.

The hands you were holding are definitely warm now as they cup your face. Your arms wrap around the dragon prince’s shoulders, pulling him closer and closer to you, until your heartbeats dance as one.

Something wet and cold lands on your cheeks.

Tears.

Tenn’s tears.

They pool at your feet, shattered shards of frost that can’t withstand the unbound affection you hold for each other.

His hands lose in your hair, his searing kiss taking in your every heartbeat, a collection of sunrises he could endlessly sing about.

Eventually, however, you need to pull away for air.

And yet, when you do, you gasp, holding your breath.

The thorned halo that used to rest atop his head is no more.

It lies shattered on the ground.

In its place a silver crown with subtle rose gems sits.

A wide grin curls your lips.

“Tenn… the curse…” You can’t quite finish the sentence before his arms have tightly wrapped around you.

“It’s over.” His forehead rests on yours. “You broke it, my [Y/n]. Thank you so much.” Tenn utters, with a last fleeting kiss.

If you had paid attention to yourself, however, you would have realized your own dress resembles a gentle dawn now; shades of lilac and gold glittering on your skirt.

Beneath the full moon, your gazes cross.

“I love you too.” Are Tenn’s words, as the music starts to play.

Hello! I just discovered your roleswap comic and I'm eating it up, it's so gooooooood. I don't really ship MetaDede personally, but good gods the way you write them bickering and bantering and the near sync when shit gets serious makes me wanna scream in excitement ekdvsiehrhr

Absolutely my favorite part of the swap. It just makes me crave for an actual Bandana Dee boss fight that actually does him justice. (also the Prince of Dreams/Beasts title itches something in my heart really well)

I'm not sure if it was intentional or if you even know who I'm talking about, but giving Bandana Dee a Scythe at some point (plus some wind abilities) really reminds me of General Gong the Hawkeye from Patapon, what with the whole high-ranking, scythe wielding, wind-adjacent thing. Probably just a coincidence tho, but I personally love it!

Hello there!! Oh my goodness, what a wonderful ask, thank you so much for telling me all of this! As a person who thrives on Words of Affirmation, these types of comments mean absolutely everything to me. <3

If I may go on a tangent about the shipping thing because I'm glad you brought that up. It's a huge complement to hear you say that because-

The Roleswap comic is not a story about romance. But it is about love.

While I am a personal lover of metadede and it fueled my initial creation of this story, I want to take the Roleswap AU in a different direction from a story that's focuses on a ship where "the main characters act the way they do because they are in love or a couple." A "partnership" like theirs can possibly be interpreted as a build up to a romance. But it doesn't have to be! So there's no blatantly romantic interactions anywhere in this story like what may be found in my non-Roleswap, specifically metadede labeled content (Like kisses, confessions of love, etc.).

Dedede and Meta do love each other, like the other protagonists of Kirby love each other. Kirby, Bandana Dee, all the other Waddle Dees, the Meta-Knights, and the friends they've made over the years. The love between many of them has developed over the entire series! They've all come a long way from fighting each other to trusting one another and even having fun together!

I see the love between the Kirby protagonists as one where they care about and want the best for each other. They may not always understand the other's thoughts and motivations. But they respect them and learn to complement each other's differences. They protect each other in battle. They grow together and learn to bring out the best in each other.

So how could two very different and powerful authority figures like Dedede and Meta come together to save their friends and family, and navigate a huge world and an unknown conflict together? That's the main question I want to present in this story.

Whatever the interpretation of the King and Knight's relationship a reader may have, I'm most happy about the fact that this comic has readers!!!

Anyway!! Back to your ask! :D

Primal Bandana Dee means a lot to me too! The only reason this comic exists is because I also wanted a cool boss fight for him, and I had just finished playing Forgotten Land for the first time. It all just branched out from there. I wish I could just spill everything I have planned for him, but alas! I have a story with a set order to tell! I will say that if anyone is worried about not seeing him until the Winter Horns area, that he will make appearances before that. Just stay tuned!

And hey. This is an AU of an existing story. We know how the canon ending went already. To keep things interesting I have to include some surprises in my version down the line somewhere, right? ;)

I also haven't heard of Patapon so the resemblance between General Gong and Bandee is a coincidence! I did look it up and General Gong looks cool!! I respect scythe wielders, haha. Thanks for telling me! If this is a game I have the ability to play it could be fun to check it out!

New Roleswap update is coming soon! I feel bad that it's been about a month and I left it on a bit of a cliffhanger. But my personal and work life is slowing down enough for me to make more progress on the next pages! Our heroes will get out of the underground tunnel soon! :O

Thoughts, Headcanons and Comments on Drake Mallard /Darkwing Duck (My AU).

This here is more of a commentary blog and maybe a rant, it can also be considered as a headcanon blog and also for Negaduck fans (which I feel like the majority will curse me A LOT for not agreeing with either group, OG and DT 2017). For those who want to, they can read it as they wish, but I'm already advancing that it's LONG and will have some low-level words (I'll censor it, but it's still worth it). Feel free to leave comments about your opinions... And preferably, the comments should be healthy...

Yeap... From the poll I did... You really want to see me talking about Scarletwing- DARKWING DUCK!... So, ok... The voice of the people is the voice of God. So get ready because today there will be a lot of complaints about Drake from DT 2017.

And finally the day has come to talk about him... Our beloved protagonist, the hero of St. Canarian who flies through the night, the one that many people love... Who is the majority of people who cause a lot of the problems just to get fame and ego and who often goes over his family and friends, and also ends up screwing up the villains more and having a completely self-destructive personality... (IT'S A JOKE, PEOPLE!!! IT'S A JOKE-)

Ok, now let's get serious... By far, Darkwing Duck/Drake Mallard is a character that many people like as a protagonist and that is in some way loved by fans. Besides, even though he is very problematic, you can see that he is a good person deep down in his soul (which is difficult to see with so many bad things he has done...). I think a lot of people like him is because he's not exactly a hero, but rather an ANTI-HERO. This is very evident in his actions and personality, he may also do it for a noble reason, but it is because of his ego in the first place that he became a hero. Being recognized, a famous person... That's it... He's an artist... Against crime, but he's an artist... But that's it... There are people who like to exalt him TOO MUCH... It's the same situation as Negaduck and sometimes it mischaracterizes the character a little... I think it's largely due to his personality change in DT 17, where he it became more "sanitised" for political correctness. I'm going to comment a lot on this... Remember that this is MY opinion on the character, you have the complete right to disagree with me and want to give your opinion.

While we're talking about him, let's talk about the Drake Mallard/Darkwing Duck version from DT 2017.

Okay... Where to start? Maybe saying that his introduction was good and the idea too, but my problem is with the character himself. He is introduced as a fan of the old Darkwing Duck series (from the Ducktales Reboot reality) and is an apparently young actor (I guess 20-23 years old). He is presented as someone who is dreamy, a little slow (very slow, actually...), a little mellow and sentimental. He has certain traits of arrogance and self-centeredness, but they are not that alarming... And that's the problem for me! The original Darkwing Duck is supposed to be VERY selfish, arrogant and self-centered, that's the fun of the character. They softened Drake's personality A LOT, I don't know if it's due to political correctness (which I don't believe because there are some current protagonists who have these arrogant traits) or just so that when his Reboot comes, he'll be more relatable to children. I think it's pretty ridiculous...

But there are things I like about Drake from DT 2017. His look is simple, but interesting. The reason he's resistant is cool. His and LP's relationship is good. Gosalyn's too. The fact that he himself is friends with Fenton, but DOESN'T LIKE Gizmoduck is good (although I think he's too slow for not noticing the obvious-). The fact that he is a newcomer to fighting crime is good, it gives "justification" to his likely mistakes. Ducktales 2017 is good, but there are things that I strongly criticize...

Ok, we've already talked about Darkwing Duck from Ducktales Reboot... Let's talk about the classic Darkwing Duck, the one from the old series.

I'm going to explain him in the simplest way possible and that shows the vision I have of him... He's an Anti hero who TRYS to be a real hero, but does it for the wrong reasons. Long story short... Drake may have good reasons to be a hero for the city, the problem is that he is also very egocentric and he was only doing it in the beginning for the fame. He has noble attitudes and you can see that, with the help of Gosalyn and Launchpad, he wants to do good for people. But at the same time he causes SO MUCH PROBLEM that you question whether he really is a hero or an almost villain. And this duality is something I love in characters... It ends up not being black or white, it's grey... Then you ask: "So he's perfect for you?", and my honest answer is... No... There are some moments that make me really angry with him and that I don't like... Moments when he's an @ssh0l& with to Gosalyn, LP, Morgana, Gizmoduck, and the other Justice Ducks. Besides, some villains he creates himself! Example... Liquidator. In fact... Here I'm going to highlight why it wasn't exactly his fault, especially because Bud ends up losing his balance and falling backwards... But the way Drake took his supposed "death" was, like... "GOD, HE DIED!... But we solved the case, so let's go home! - >-"... MAN, A PERSON LITERALLY DIED IN FRONT OF YOU!!! Another would technically be Bugmaster (although I don't remember their episode well so correct me if I'm wrong) and a few others...

Okay... Having said all that... So now it's time to talk about his version in my AU and what I'm going to keep from him.

In my AU, I prefer to use a lot of the classic Darkwing Duck base, because he is this gray character. HOWEVER, the story itself I would base on DT 2017, because it really is interesting. The difference is to put more weight on the character's attitudes, to have real CONSEQUENCES for him. As for his "involution" at certain narrative points and moments when he's a jerk... I have a good justification... And for that, I take two base characters.

Pink Diamond from Steven Universe and Blitzo from Helluva Boss...

For the haters of these characters, I'm sorry... But they are the best examples...

Ok, speaking of these characters... Pink Diamond was a spoiled and tantrum person, but most of all... SELF-DESTRUCTIVE! She hurt people without realizing it, even though she felt weak and defenseless compared to her diamond sisters. She hurt and left many people on the path she walked that she felt they could never change 100%. Blitz, on the other hand, is a completely problematic person because he is also self-destructive and has serious relationship problems. The majority he had always ended up with the person hating him forever and, over time, these ghosts from the past end up coming back to him.

Now combine these two aspects mentioned and put them in Drake... Now you must understand where I'm going and some of you may have heard me say it more than once, but... Drake has serious problems relating to other people , some end up being hurt emotionally or physically. He ends up being a completely self-destructive person and, even though he tries to change, he never feels like he's good or someone's equal. Not even about his family or friends... Which makes him always try to put himself as superior to others to try to hide these insecurities. But he always ends up coming back with problems and questions... And at some point, all of this will end up coming back.

Excellent question that I'm not yet fully qualified to answer bc I still haven't read the entirety of TGCF - but I'm pretty sure that my opinion on this won't change even once I have. I just think that the objectively correct answer here is Bingqiu.

I mean, from what I've gathered from the first 2.5 volumes of TGCF, F/F Hualian is like... partly canon anyways, due to the general gender stuff TGCF gods seem to have going on. And Wangxian would be interesting mostly due to the fact that the MDZS universe seems to be the most sexist one out of MXTX's universes, but I'm personally a little tired of Narratives About Historical Sexism. I'm absolutely deeply in love with fem!Xie Lian and Lan Wangji and I would let both fem!Hua Cheng and the Yiling Matriarch step on me, but the thing is.

Bingqiu.

BINGQIU. F/F Bingqiu fucks so hard! LIKE. OKAY. The thing about Scum Villain is that this story happens on approximately five different layers. You have the actual "reality" of what is happening in Scum Villain, including the emotions and experiences of the characters, but this "reality" is also shaped by the fact that it's a novel, and a particular genre of novel (a stallion novel at first and a danmei novel later on). There is a meta level built into the story. On top of that, you have the additional layer of the original PIDW plot, which again is driven by the conventions of its genre. These are all layers Shen Qingqiu is aware of! But there's ALSO the world Shen Yuan and Airplane are from, and their experiences in that world, including the tropes they know of and the internet they interact with, direct their actions in the world of PIDW as well as the way PIDW itself was written. And then there's obviously the actual meta level, the one that we and MXTX are on, where MXTX writes trope subversions and commentary on webnovel genres and internet culture that we as readers can pick up on. I love Scum Villain.

Anyways, all that means that if you change something as fundamental to the narrative as the gender of its main characters (bc gender dynamics are pretty damn important for a story that is in part about male power fantasies), you have to adjust every single one of those layers. Which I think is dope.

Luo Binghe has a lot of character traits, but on the first meta level, Luo Binghe is primarily the protagonist! So if Luo Binghe is a woman, PIDW can't be a stallion novel. What, then, is PIDW? I think there are a bunch of different options, and every single one creates a slightly different dynamic! Additionally, every single one creates a very slightly different Shen Yuan, AND - and this is vitally important to me - every single one creates different commentary on the second meta level. Subversion and commentary are such a huge part of what Scum Villain is (and what Bingqiu are) that I, at least, want that layer to stay intact in this AU.

I've talked about this before, I think, but I want to talk about it more. Scum Villain is in part about the effects male power fantasies have on men! If PIDW were a reverse harem novel targeted at straight women, for example, Scum Villain might be about the effects female power fantasies have on women! You'd have Luo Binghe, who can have everything she wants bc she's the protagonist, but whose life has to be centred around romances with various men. I'd love to read a deconstruction of the reverse harem genre, bc it's such an alienating type of story for me as a lesbian - like, this type of female power fantasy hinges on the protagonist being attractive and attracted to men; it's unimaginable to have a classic female power fantasy without a romance with a man! On the other hand, PIDW as an erotic novel targeted at men would create so much fun commentary on sapphic sexuality. That's probably my favourite version of F/F Bingqiu, so I'm picking that dynamic to talk about in-depth:

Shen Yuan, in this, hate-reads a bad porn novel where the badass female protagonist - her favourite - is objectified and over-sexualised on every second page and exists to be masturbation material for the primarily straight male audience. I imagine that she writes a lot of rants in the comment section about how sexist PIDW is and how Luo Binghe would be an exceptional female character if she weren't the protagonist of a porn novel.

Luo Binghe, protagonist of a porn novel, after the Abyss starts to utilise her looks and her sexuality to make her way to the top. In the Scum Villain setting, of course, she's however deeply in love with Shen Qingqiu, who unfortunately is the only person her seduction techniques don't work on – because Shen Qingqiu is horribly attracted to Luo Binghe, but can’t detach her perception of Luo Binghe as attractive from the objectifying descriptions she read in the original novel. She already brainwashed herself into believing that she was never affected by Luo Binghe in writing, just disgusted by the fanservice, and now she brainwashes herself even harder bc Luo Binghe is a real person she knows now and not a sex symbol to get off to. (Plus, she’s into the submissive pouty housewife act! That’s even worse! She’s not even close to admitting she’s into women at all, she has to brainwash her way out of that!)

Meanwhile, everyone wants Luo Binghe except for the one person Luo Binghe wants to want her! I imagine that would mess with her head, especially after Shen Qingqiu’s death. Her relationship with her own sexuality is also pretty messed up, because her experience with it is focused on making herself desirable to other people, not on her actual desires. Luo Binghe, who only knows how to perform for the male gaze and gets no satisfaction from that vs. Shen Qingqiu, who can’t deal with the fact that she feels sexual attraction to a woman written for the male gaze. I think that sounds suitably disastrous for Bingqiu, and I feel like these are also extremely common wlw experiences. Layers! I want them to kiss, and I want them to kiss on the meta level! (And I want Luo Binghe to become comfortable with being seductive for the person she actually desires, and Shen Qingqiu to admit that she wants Luo Binghe.)

Finally, I think that there's one aspect of Scum Villain that would work better if Bingqiu were women, and that's Airplane. Like, PIDW is bad because Airplane had to abandon every notion of writing a serious, good story in order to make enough money to eat. In the end, the changes Shen Qingqiu makes to the novel are much closer to the original outline and Shang Qinghua is pretty satisfied with them. But like, danmei is a popular genre. Internationally popular, by now! You can make money with danmei! I think that particular message would be a bit more poignant if PIDW ended up as a baihe - the kind of story you wouldn't tell if you wanted to make money.

My Big List of Fanfiction Clichés

For a start: I’m not writing about #tags here. What I mean are actual tropes.

A tag is something that you write in a fanfiction header to outline the story, and / or to warn your readers.

A cliché is a plot twist the author uses believing it to be original or funny. The problem is that many of these clichés have either been around for so long that they give a rash to their readers, or have never been creative or innovative in the first place. Many fanfics start off well or have an interesting outline, but then they stumble upon one or more than one of these clichés. Read a hundred times, they don’t get more interesting or plausible.

Dear fanfic writers, I know we all write and read for fun, but please have mercy and at least attempt to spare us from these.

“Idiots in Love” They dislike one another / are rivals / are friends but they are not aware of being in love. How do we bring these two together? 1 Jealousy. 2 One of them gets sick or hurt.

“Idiots in Love”, II They’re roommates or childhood friends for at least a decade until it finally dawns on them that they love each other. They’re rivals for years or decades until they realize that they love each other. They’re neighbours / roommates for years… etc. They’re classmates / fellow students for years… etc.

“Idiots in Love”, III They must be brought together by their friends because they’re too stupid to realize it or to make a move on their own. Added bonus: betting pools. Wolf whistles. Innuendos. (For the record, that’s not funny, just crude. Even worse considering that these are supposed to be “friends”.)

The poor / rich person cliché Poor person can hardly get by, rich person has so much luxury that poor person is dazzled, but 1 Rich person is terribly lonely and misunderstood 2 Poor person loves rich person because they have a heart of gold, not because of their money. The money doesn’t hurt, of course. Bonus if the fic keeps emphasizing how wonderful expensive stuff and rich life is.

Quotations or references to Jane Austen. They’re so overdone. I roll my eyes as soon as I stumble upon them. (Alternatively: Romeo and Juliet. Argh.)

Fake It till You Make It For Some Reason they have to pretend that they’re dating or married, or their marriage is arranged. Everything turns out all right in the end.

What’s an Umbrella? Key scene: to make a declaration of love, the love interest (usually male) arrives at the other’s doorstep soaking wet. Inspired by the 2005 film version of the novel-that-must-not be named.

Maybe This Time Definition of madness: “doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result”. Protagonist has affairs / one-night stands galore, searching for a mate. And then after months or even years, bang!, one of them stays overnight. Nothing went differently, except that miraculously, it’s their One True Love.

Those? That? Smut ensues, and every over sentence describes “those fingers”, “that cock”, “those lips” etc. Nobody uses the word “those”. Ever. Except for smut scenes.

Love Hurts If you love someone: stalk them. Offend them. Humiliate them. Invade their personal space for no reason. Make them dependent on you. At worst, kidnap and or rape them. For the record, it’s called “trauma bonding”. It’s not romantic or erotic.

Love Conquers All One person does something mean, hurtful and uncalled for to the other. Of course, they will be forgiven. That’s from where you recognize true love, don’t you? Who needs self-esteem.

It Smells of April and May They meet at a wedding. Or they broke up and meet again at a wedding. Nothing more romantic to (re)kindle feelings.

Just Kiss Already You’re sitting or standing underneath a mistletoe. What are you waiting for? Funny how branches of a parasite plant are supposed to mean good luck. Funnier how they are always conveniently at hand when They Just Have to Kiss Already. Another reference to mistletoe in a Christmas fic and I’ll riot.

I’m Not a Martyr, I’m a Victim Protagonist is convinced that “everyone they love leaves them or dies”. Lover has to convince them that they won’t ever leave them. Yes, abandonment issues are real and they can be a bitch. But this trope has been around for as long as Rapunzel’s braid. In real life: if someone says everybody leaves them, don’t take pity too quickly. There might be a reason for that. Just saying.

The Knowing Best Friend They’ve done their utmost to hide their feelings, but there is always some friend or sibling who Just Saw Right Through Them. And won’t hold back making fun of their feelings. Nice friend, really.

Forbidden Love One of them is married. Engaged. In a relationship with the other’s best friend. Or both of them are. They’re on opposite sides of a war, of a business, or a class. They’re stepparent and stepchild. Adopted siblings. First cousins. One of them is underage. One of them is a priest or a nun. Even better, some of these elements are mixed together. The more desperately they cling to one another, the more you can rest assured: Their Love is True.

They Hate Each Other; it Must Be Love When two people constantly clash, it must be a proof of True Love. Or isn’t it? For the record, sometimes people genuinely dislike each other. And if someone likes the other but instead of confessing it is constantly rude to them in order to “win their attention”, it’s not a proof of love but of deep immaturity.

Parlor Games Truth or Dare. Spin the Bottle. Never Have I Ever. You name it. Nothing better to win the heart of your One True Love than by embarrassing the s*** out of them in front of everyone they know and care about. Bonus if they make fun of someone's love life. In public.

Fifty Shades of Something He’s rich and kinky, that’s all. (Or maybe he has some other terrible characteristics.) But she Loves Him, because She Sees Something in Him That Others Don’t. She’s not in it for the money of course. Neither is she incredibly naïve. It’s Love.

People Will Say We’re in Love Someone starts a rumour that A and B are a couple. Of course they aren’t. Until they are. Someone just had to give them a hint.

True Love Doesn’t Wait Protagonist has copious amounts of casual sex in order to: a) make their love interest jealous b) “exercise” for when they will be with their love interest c) “get their love interest out of their system” because they’re not reciprocated. At least, apparently not. (They just don’t know yet.) But of course: their heart always belongs only to The One.

Praise Kink They’re having sex. Like, hot sex. And one is calling the other a “good boy”. What is he, a dog?

Anything But Love They’ve been through everything together. Everything. Known one another for years. Lived together, worked together, travelled together. Talked about the most difficult topics. Been there for one another for better or worse. Had sex countless times and explored all kind of crazy kinks. But the moment one of them - or both - realize that this could actually be Love, they go into panic modus.

I’ve read to many fanfics. Sue me. 😊

@catilinas I am reading this tag analysis on the Oedipus post like 👀👀👀 and wANT TO HEAR MORE because

1.) The discrepancies between the version of events in CQL that we see unfold as viewers in real time and the version we get from NMJ during the Empathy sequence are a constant subject of rumination for me, and they're yet another example of seeing JGY through not one but two sets of filters, and NMJ's version of events is the last we see, and thus forms our lasting impression, but it's so far removed from the originals you don't even realize how much they've omitted unless you watch them back-to-back. Meanwhile, Tiresias's account is one of the first things we hear, but it colors everything that comes after it because We All Know The Story, the characters themselves fixate on it, and everything unfolds more or less in real time so we the viewers don't have time to forget anything and never got to see Oedipus or Jocasta or Laius outside of this moment.

2.) something something JGY claims that someone tried/ is trying to harm him every time he's confronted, and Oedipus accuses Creon of plotting to overthrow him

3.) what if "JGY lives" AU in the style of Oedipus at Colonus

My version of the Poppy Playtime protagonist. They’re based on Aliens Ripley but if older. They couldn’t remember a whole bunch from the week or so around the Hour of Joy; they were attacked by Huggy and managed to make it right outside the front doors with the help of one of the other employees, who, valiantly (read *stupidly*) ran back inside to try to help. He never came back out. Anyway, Protag was found by paramedics, but the inside was empty of bodies by the time they got there. There was a shit load of blood, and after a brief scan by the cops, they just shut that shit down. They lost a couple cops and paramedics, but mostly used their instincts and ran. Like smart people who survive a horror movie.

So the protagonist ends up in a couple month long coma and comes out of it with a severed nerve that connects to their larynx. Now they haven’t been able to properly talk for 30 years (ignore my math, I’m still unsure how I fucked it up so bad)

I can’t decide if they’re late 50s or 60s. They’re farsighted, but their reading glasses have broke, so it’s really hard to see all the small faded text (which is why you can’t just read any ole file while playing)

They feel guilty bc they had been so proud to be a part of something with so much benefit and joy to kids, and now they’re finding out the actual *EVIL* that was happening to those with connection to the place. They feel guilty bc they feel like they should’ve known; *how could they have let this all happen right underneath their very nose*;etc. etc. they also have a burning hatred for the other managerial heads in the company (they themselves being head of toy production; their name is destroyed bc the prototype was enraged that one of the five main evils of the company got away or some shit like that)

It took them a while to figure out how to live and function without speech; and after a few years of slogging through a comphet (compulsory heteronormative) marriage, they finally went through a nasty divorce. Shortly after they figured out their own gender identity (or at least started the awkward process of) and their own sexuality.

Thirty years later (almost on the dot) they got the message and tape that cried for help from the factory and nearly shit themselves. Proto definitely assumed that the company had just shut down, cuz you know that the cops were paid to keep a building with almost 500 (or so) employees, that went missing and were presumably dead, under wraps from the public. They’re definitely super grateful they’ve been doing tumbling and martial arts classes, so they have been in incredible shape and can do all the crazy shit required to stay alive.

Edit: this is what I’m gonna call the Survivor AU cuz I realize that the game takes place in 2005 and not, like, 2025. And we apparently played hooky during the “hour of joy” in canon lore. Oh well

God this chapter fucked me up, in a good way. It was spooky as fuck, tense and terrifying; they’ve super upped the quality. But now I have just enough brain rot and characters to attach to to actually go through and draw up the design that’s been banging around in my head for ever.

12. Are there any tropes you used to dislike but have grown on you?

I still don't read it widely, because most of it hits my "but what's the point then?" pickiness for AUs, but a friend recently explained her time travel fix-it AU as a version of an isekai and that sort of made the appeal of it click in my head in a way it'd never had before. I still think the trope itself is not something I'd go as my first choice, because my vibe is more either miscommunication or mystery, and having a POV character that knows everything - and very often has no reason to not share/use that knowledge - makes it very conflict-free for me. The thing that clicked for me is the same way that my favorite isekai stories are ones that either the OP protagonist doesn't know they're OP or their OPness is gated behind world knowledge that they have to acquire first before making use of said OPness. So I think I like time travel fic in theory now, I just haven't read one that hits the spot because it's not a trope I seek out often. But I kinda get it now! I think!

13. Are there any tropes you used to like but don’t anymore?

Modern renditions of enemies-to-lovers are so fucking exhausting in how hard people are trying to sand down any bit of objectionable, problematic aspect of that kind of relationship. I love me a good, brutal actual!enemies to actual!lovers story that wrestles with the history and baggage of that kind of thing. But post!Reylo fandom is more worried about "not romanticizing abuse" than telling a good, compelling story. E2L are supposed to be messy, problematic, dark romance stories full of questionable tropes. That's what makes it fun! But the way any whiff of conflict is constantly smothered away because "We Do Not Condone That Here" messaging is more important than a coherent, IC story is just. Blah. One day, my favorite toxic love trope will come home from the war. One day.

17. What highly specific AU do you want to read or write even though you might be the only person to appreciate it?

Witcher 3 fusion AUs are my personal catnip. I specify Witcher 3 because I understand the Netflix trainwreck was the entry point for a lot of the fandom and that's great, but the writing of the Netflix show is infinitely subpar to the actual books and even the Witcher 3 version of the characters. The Witcher 3 softens a lot of the harsher edges of characters in the books (hi Emhyr, my forever problematique baby girl, how are you today, your imperial colonialist dipshit incestuous majesty?) but it still maintains the tone in a way that makes it so the harsher, more shocking aspects of it don't read like "for shock value" and have actual consequences. It's a rough world with rough edges and it's a setting rife for stories of all sorts, to scratch that nice medieval pseudo-realistic fantasy setting itch, while still allowing space for some hilarious comedy and nuanced politics.

However, somehow, people who played the game somehow come out with the urge to write unironic, mindless colonialism apologia - we all know why - or quirky funny romance because Netflix!Jaskier is so memeable.

Look, I have almost 3K hours in the Witcher 3, I understand I am not the target audience for Witcher fandom which is why I don't really wade into it often, but I want people to write more Witcher 3 fusion stories because it's a fantastic setting to grab your favorite characters and plop them into and see what they do. It's great.
