Because the thing about Helen Magnus, right, is she does not "hang out." She explicitly says as much in one episode; it's just not her personality. (Except in the pilot it's clearly established that she 'hangs out with'/has lunch with her friends, but the stuff ignored from the pilot is. A whole other conversation.)

So what you're describing is a scenario where I'm about to crawl into bed and a woman who literally only shows up when there are Monsters Beyond My Comprehension in the area.

.... Honestly, though, I feel like I'd be down to jump in for the Monster-Rescuing. Maybe. Honestly that's probably wishful thinking, but hey, that's what fandom is for, right? So, yeah, we find the creature together, I get a glimpse into the world of the impossible, I offer her tea as thanks and she accepts, then realizes I make it in the microwave and is Offended In British.

OH. But also I really, really want to get her to try a pumpkin spice latte, because the woman "hates coffee," but she probably hasn't had it since the 1800s the FIRST time she was there, and, yknow, we've made a few improvements.

This was very fun to do, and i love how much i improved from the last time i did this. Honestly, i love it alot!

Me:okay I have to stop posting and go to bed

Also me: but why isn't there a reunion fic where once stede gets back on the revenge Ed is just like "you know what? Fine. This is technically your ship, I'm not going to try and kill you, whatever. Im taking this shit to the republic of pirates, deboarding, and you'll never see me again." And basically acts like everything's fine, cold shouldering the hell out of stede. Stede, on the other hand, is RELENTLESS in his efforts to talk to Ed despite only ever being met with "nah, mate. I'm good." Until realizing that he needs to work to regain Ed's trust before anything else, and so he does just that -- taking on responsibilities, looking out for Ed, showing himself to be reliable and caring in the ways he wasnt before. Bonus points for a pride and prejudice esque scene where he tells Ed the ways he realized he was flawed and the steps he's taken to be better, regardless of whether Ed takes him back. And it's from there that Ed softens a bit, and by the time they reach land he's maybe ready to talk about it. And it's only because of that rebuilt trust that Ed can be vulnerable about how shit the whole thing was, and it's only because of the ways he's grown that stede can be accountable to that in ways that are open and true. And its only for the ways they have changed together that they can see each other more clearly than before, and only for who they've become can they choose to love each other with the sort of depth and nuance needed to survive love in the first place.

Oh, also, the whole time Izzy is trying and failing to kill stede in increasingly comical scenarios
