hi y'all. im sorry ive been off tumblr lately but im here. also i just finished the final ep of stranger things 4 and i have heavily mixed feelings
#HI. IM GONNA RAMBLE IN THE TAGS BECAUSE I CAN.#GOD i have such mixed feelings on the ending!! tbh i have mixed feelings on the season as a whole!!#i know everyone absolutely loves s4 and ppl are calling it the best season and i definitely enjoyed it but like...#i dont feel like it even comes close to being the best season? like dont get me wrong. it was cool. i liked most of the characters they -#- introduced. i liked the concept for the story. the visuals were super cool and the writing was solid.#but it just feels like its kind of beating a dead horse y'know? there were so many plotholes and so many unanswered questions#not in like a cliffhanger kind of way. but just in a We Tried Putting Way Too Much Into One Season And It's Paying The Price#also like. apparently they're planning on doing a season 5?? what???#i love the series as much as the next guy but.. that's just too much. there's only so much you can do with a series like this.#idk. i loved the first ep or two of season one but it kind of dropped off for a while until the final few eps#its hard to type out my thoughts but ive been rambling to myself loudly in the living room bc my mom passed out like half an hour ago and -#- i swear my thoughts are more cohesive irl. i have SO much to talk about but there's not enough room to type it out and i feel really -#- stupid for rambling out when no one cares online but it's no different than rambling to someone who's passed tf out so idk#okay. back to my rambling.#for a lot of the characters it just really felt like they like. went backwards with character development at first.#the character had the exact same growth in season 3 except it made sense then. now they're just doing it over again.#mike goes from being an immature and kinda self centered dude to a caring and mature boyfriend for el.#steve pines over nancy but steps back because he's more mature than he was and doesn't wanna ruin her relationship with jonathan#robin faces her insecurities to help her friends#will ambiguously pines over mike and doesn't want things to change but relents because change is inevitable#lucas wants to fit in with the 'cool kids '' more than his friends do but he still chooses his friends over anyone else#dustin is the nerd with a heart of gold who plays a big part in the success of the team#el tries to fit in and lead a normal life but realizes that that's bullshit. also she saves the day at the end as usual.#jonathan is kinda shitty towards the start but tries to make it up by the end and mostly does that. nancy is conflicted bc of steve so -#- jonathan kind of knows and he can't really make it up entirely to her.#nancy is badass who loves jonathan but also kinda loves steve and she's emotionally shut off so she just lets it sit and it bleeds out -#- into her interactions with others. the trauma doesn't help either. she still comes through tho bc she's a loyal friend who deeply cares#it just feels so similar to s3. idk. they've already gone through this development once before so seeing it again just feels stale.#im about to hit the tag limit but i wanna keep going so i might make more posts i think. idk.#we'll see how it works out tonight! im so sorry y'all for the brainrot

🎁 Recently Read Fics - December 2023 🎁
These are all the amazing fics I read over the past month (from shortest to longest). Don’t forget to leave kudos and comments to show the authors your appreciation if you read any of these! ❤️
🎁 A Green Christmas by @tommokat (871, T)
A short, sweet snapshot of Niall and Shawn’s first holiday season living together.
🎁 to wake up by your side is all I wanna do by @beardyboyzx (1k, G)
Sometimes, Niall still thinks about the way Zayn’s laugh sounds when they watch TV and Niall makes up fake answers for whatever quiz show they’re watching.
🎁 Oh Christmas Three by @tommokat (1k, M)
A birthday surprise goes awry. Louis doesn’t understand. Harry blames the oven.
🎁 make my wish come true by @voulezloux (2k, NR)
the one where all harry wants for christmas is lou
🎁 Baby, please come home by @iysics (2k, T)
Breaking into his neighbour's house wasn't on Harry's Christmas checklist.
🎁 Stuck in Midnight Traffic by @letthemusicmoveyou28 (3k, M)
the one where two broken people meet in an empty tube car on Christmas Eve. Can they find a way to heal each other?
🎁 All The Way Home I’ll Be Warm by @justanothershadeofblue (3k, T)
Harry & Louis jokingly send out holiday cards together as friends, and now everyone is congratulating them for finally getting together. A 5+1 fic, for Christmas.
🎁 Santa Baby (one little thing I really need) by @so-why-let-your-voice-be-tamed (3k, T)
When Louis himself had first heard those words - all the nurses at the A&E have a secret line to Santa’s sleigh on Christmas Eve-, not nearly long enough ago to be considered a child himself, but long enough that he hadn't really felt like an adult all the time, he’d laughed them off. Thought they were sweet, of course, but just a line, something said to appease the kids who ended up having to stay overnight. Something to explain the presents that parents brought to the hospital on Christmas morning, or that were waiting for them at home, if they were lucky not to have to stay any longer.
Something that would allow a little bit of Christmas spirit in the sometimes sterile rooms of the hospital.
But that was before he’d met him.
🎁 A Christmas at Home by @parmahamlarrie (3k, T)
After meeting his boyfriend in the emergency room, not having Louis home for Christmas Eve (and his birthday) was not a big surprise to Harry. What he didn't expect was just how hard that would be on his six year old son, Arlo.
Or, the one where Arlo wants nothing more than to celebrate Louis' birthday with him, and Harry hates having to be the parent who says no.
🎁 I Saw Several Angels in the Self Help Section by @londonfoginacup (3k, G)
Zayn and Louis are soulmates.
They're also missing some soulmates.
For extra flavour, it's Christmas.
🎁 Elf on the Shelf Suprise by @megz1985 (6k, T)
Liam brings home an Elf on the Shelf to surprise his and Zayn's toddler with Christmas magic, but things don't go as planned when she's completely terrified of her new Christmas friend.
🎁 The Busker by @chelsea-frew (7k, T)
A snowstorm has trapped artist Louis at home on his birthday--Christmas Eve--and on Christmas. Louis anticipates a lonely holiday. A mysterious stranger appears on Christmas morning, however, and Louis doesn't have to spend the day alone. But where did the man come from? Why does he seem familiar? It's a Christmas mystery.
🎁 Lonely Cards Club by @hellolovers13 (25k, T)
Harry's life in Cardiff is rather uneventful. Until he receives a strange Christmas postcard.
It gets even stranger when he finds another one the next day.
An Advent story about missed opportunities and second chances.
🎁 You Ain’t Gotta Feel Fear Just Mingle by @londonfoginacup (32k, T)
Harry has been at his dream job for less than three months, and he knows two things for sure; first, his project manager doesn't know what he's doing, and second, someone in the office is apparently pure evil, and no one will tell Harry who it is.
Oh, and the guy who works in conservation at the other end of the building is the most beautiful man Harry's ever seen, even when wielding a hot iron as a weapon.
Happy Christmas, here's to many more.
🎁 Snow In Love by @lululawrence (33k, NR)
Harry and Louis are best friends and have been for basically as long as they can remember. For the first time since middle school, they are both single for the holidays leaving them with the brilliant idea to take each other as their dates to work events. To make things easier they will pretend like they’re dating. But then they learn something funny.
People thought they were already dating. Weird.
An advent fic featuring childhood friends, fake dating turned actual dating, really horrible secret keeping, and a winter weather surprise.
🎁 Heart Beat by @allwaswell16 (33k, E)
Hideaway Haven is the place that Louis has always called home. It's also the place that Harry had tried to leave behind him. When Harry returns to start a music academy in his hometown, he finds himself face to face with his high school crush—and his charming daughter who wants to learn to play the drums.
🎁 I Really Like Your Styles: The Baking Advent-ure by @homosociallyyours (34k, T)
Louis isn't much for frills, and the coffee shop he co-owns with his best friend Liam is evidence of that. Yes, it's got a decent sized, well-kept industrial kitchen, but Louis insists that people come to coffee shops for coffee, not mediocre pastry and plastic wrapped cookies. When Liam's campaign for serving treats turns into watching a few baking accounts on whichever popular app he's on, there's one that really gets on Louis' nerves: "I Like Your Styles." With his chipper demeanor and over the top descriptions of the food he makes, Louis is sure that the (unfortunately cute) baker is full of it. Nothing that adorable could possibly be worth the hype.
It doesn't actually take much for him to eat his words...and some quality baked goods, while he's at it.

Loki Season 2 Ep. 1 Thoughts:
(Heavy Spoilers)
Ok so I have a lot of thoughts and are basically all over the place so I'm gonna be putting in them in somewhat chronological order (Unlike Loki's current situation hehe)
They really HAD to put more of Loki's heartbreak over Mobius not recognizing him? Loki creators probably: "I know we're gonna bring the duo back but let's make 'em suffer just a bit more in the beginning".
I know others have covered this but also want to spread this headcanon/theory: Even though past Mobius doesn't know Loki ,and probably got his memory erased afterwards, It's still an interesting theory that maybe his interactions with Loki then might have somehow stuck with him and made him want to look into Loki a bit later.
Miss Minutes is with Ravonna right? I feel likeMinutes is probably the only tool/weapon that might give the former judge some leverage.
Casey! Casey not just being a comedic guy but actually a massive help is really nice. He (Present Casey) immediately saw Loki in pain/trouble and decided to help him without much question.
So...X-5 and D-90 weren't what I was expecting, they're kinda switched actually from what I was expecting. I thought X-5 would be a friend to Mobius and kinda con-artist and D-90 was a massive jerk who would side with Ravonna...But hey, I'm all for D-90's redemption.
New Judge is great. Screw Ravonna!...Where's Ravonna?
Apparently she was in on HWR's plan from the beginning...Guess she is a big bad after all. Also, why was she so great to HWR? Like in the comics they were couple but things seem to have taken a different turn in the MCU.
Look, I get it if you don't ship Lokius but...You have to admit was really nice to see Loki get some support from Mobius (And B-15, don't forget her stopping Ass-5) and then Mobius trying to calm/ground Loki while the poor dude is really going through it. AND even later, Loki and Mobius trying to make the other calm down and not to worry about their problems.
IF you do ship Lokius. We're either getting fed well or being clowned upon. Either way, let me just enjoy these two for a bit.
Why has no one talked about the weird fact that O.B.'s memory doesn't seem to have been erased but Mobius' has? Also, is O.B. like a TVA secret? Why the hell is no one in the TVA visiting him! How is he able to keep track of time in the TVA?!
Ok so that guidebook O.B. made, Loki still has it right? Like in a trailer clip he is flipping through an orange book, that's the guidebook right?
I love how Mobius is still thinking about whether he'll lose his skin or not till the very last minute lol. We know he's always was gonna pick saving Loki no matter what, but you'd totally still be worried about the skin thing.
I think Loki was pruned by either Future Sylvie or Future Loki. I think Future Loki and Sylvie came up with a plan to make sure Present Loki got pruned and survived. Also...Sylvie growing out her hair to have 50/50 hair colors is making me more of Bi idiot than usual.
While I enjoy the comparison to the Sam/Bucky roll to Lokius I think there is a key difference: FaTWS played this for comedy while this was played for relief that the characters are ok. And Sam immediately told bucky to get off while Loki probably just thought Mobius's suit was too heavy. (Yes, I'm wearing clown makeup, what about it.)
Finally, And I know how controversial this is: I don't think Loki is looking for Sylvie for romantic reason (OR more accurately, not the sole reason). She is literally about to be hunted down and probably killed and was the last one to see what happened in the Citadel. Even if he did feel betrayed by her, he still would probably want to save her.

A Whovian Watches Star Trek for the First Time: Part 116 - Tilly in the Network
Star Trek: Discovery - Season 2 Episode 5 - Saints of Imperfection
Tumblr media
This episode picks up exactly where engineering left off, with May pulling Sylvia Tilly into the Spore Network, and Michael is kinda doing this thing of burying herself into her work to distract from her sadness about the situation. It's very Vulcan of her, and I can't wait to see how it tears her up.
Meanwhile, Discovery has come across Spock's shuttle, however Spock isn't responding, and Discovery are left with no choice but to open fire before the shuttle can enter a nebula through which Discovery can't follow. They successfully immobilise the SHuttle, and bring it aboard, but to everyone's surprise, Spock isn't on Board: Georgiou is.
Now, last season I didn't like a lot of what they did with Georgiou after leaving her universe, they were a few interesting moments towards the end, but I didn't like that she her comeuppance so bringing her into the main universe in the end kinda felt unjustified. I'm still holding out for some villainous downfall this season, and here specifically, putting her right next to Pike who has built up as very much archetype of the paragon Starfleet Captain, when she is very much the prime example of what I imagine most Terran Captains are like (Granted, my sample size is very limited for them), should be a really interesting point of contrast.
Also the music that plays when she enters, is just perfect. I don't feel like I highlight soundtracks enough on these, but I love Evil Georgiou's theme.
Georgiou is still pretending to be our Universe's Georgiou, but Pike apparently has history with her. Georgiou's current mission for Section 31 is to hunt down Spock. Unfortunately Section 31 ties Pike's hands, and Georgiou is allowed to go free.
Last time Section 31 showed up, a few episodes ago, a couple of you pointed out to me they're they shadowy Group Enterprise too, I don't they were given a name back there, but if this is the same group, they seem be at least slightly more publicly known by know, both Michael and Pike recognise the Section 31 Badge that Georgiou has, whereas in Enterprise they seemed to exist entirely outside of Starfleet's knowledge minus a few people. I kinda wanna know what caused that shift.
The Engineering team manage to confirm that Tilly isn't and indeed is in the Spore Network. Sylvia is rightfully pissed at May for bringing her here, however she is willing to listen to her out. Unfortunately she wants her to kill some sort of creature that entered the Spore Network when Discovery started making it's jumps, and is currently destroying the world of the Network.
Meanwhile on Discovery, as Georgiou leaves, Section 31 drops off an official Liaison, in the form of Ash Tyler. Pike confronts Michael about how different Georgiou is acting from how he remembers her, and that conversation gets put off, Michael and Ash have a small catch up, but nothing really happens immediately and Ash leaves to report to the Bridge.
Paul's plan to rescue Tilly is to jump Discovery into the network, essentially use the ship as a gateway between the real world world and mushroom world. There are a few risks involved, it's been previously established that the mycelium in the network eat normal matter, so the crew would only have an hour to find and extract Sylvia, and there is a risk crew members could just end up like the crew of the Glen if they're in the wrong place when the jump happens.
Pike approves of the Plan, and he gives a really good No Man Left Behind speech, and everyone gets ready to go, and the side of the ship sinks into the network, and Paul and Michael get to searching. Sylvia and May board the Discovery too, although she takes a path to the Armoury to deal with the creature, although they quickly meet up, and Tilly explains the situation
I love that the Monster remains completely unseen until just now, when we find out he is Hugh Culbur, somehow corrupted by the something. Which obviously leaves Paul in a state of conflict. He thought he lost his partner, and he's been grieving really hard since midway through last season, and now he has a chance to save him, but May is still desperate to get Sylvia and by extension the others to kill him. Honestly I was expecting the monster somehow be related to the Tartigrade, so the idea that he's Hugh was a shock, and a twist that I love, even if it's undoing the most impactful death of Season 1.
Meanwhile on the bridge, things are going bad, the Mycelium are still eating away at the Hull, and the Bridge is Starting to fall into the Network, meaning the bridge crew have less space to work. Tyler however calls in some assistance from Section 31, with hidden communicator. A section 31 ship, apparently capable of disguising itself as an asteroid appears out of nowhere, and starts physically towing Discovery out of the Network's space
This little sequence with Section 31 is beautiful, it really showcases how much further ahead they are than everyone else tech-wise.
Meanwhile, Paul trying to convince Hugh that he's real is heartbreaking, he pulls through, and Tilly convinces May to stand down. They rush back to the cube and... Heartbreakingly Hugh is unable to crossover. This scene breaks my heart. Paul had so so much hope, and it just got ripped away from him, and AAAA! I am crying. Fortunately, Sylvia manages to think of a plan to use the Cocoon that dragged her in to create a new body for Hugh on the other side. With that, Paul completes the jump out of the Network, and everything is calm. The team spend time watching the cocoon, waiting, until May fufills her side of the promise, and Hugh is saved.
After this Mission, Pike and the Section 31 leader, Leland have a conversation with the Admiral. Who, one forces them to put their differences aside and work together, and two gives us new information about the Signals. The sites with the Signals have something called Tachyon Radiation, which I'm assuming is the Star Trek equivalent of Artron energy because Leland immediately connects it's presence to Time Travel, although Pike also says could indicate a number of other things, namely Cloaking Devices and Transporters. A Mystery to think about, I can think multiple ways all three of these could be involved with whatever the Red Angels are, Spock is still the best lead.
This episode was a fun conclusion to the May and Tilly Arc, I had fun with it, the rescue mission itself was great, and seeing Section 31 in Action. I still have enough to go on to narrow down my theory on the Red Angels are, and the end of this one kinda widened up the possibilities to it could be anything now. This episode was fun!

Galactik Football season 3 rewatch, eps 4 - 6
Episode 4:
Aww Tia and Thran talking about TV shows, I like seeing more interactions between characters we don't see together that often.
Also Tia looking out for D'jok by getting the video checked! We see her check up on him a couple of times in these episodes, I love their friendship. Here it's like a little reversal of when D'jok was looking out for her when the whole Rocket Netherball thing was going down
Hooooow does Thran's filter program somehow let him see what happened before the explosion?? That's not filtering anything out, it's straight up new footage!
Artegor putting his hand on Aarch's shoulder after D'jok's disappearance... they're such a divorced couple with messy history who still care about each other
Clamp: Without D'jok here, we don't have a captain!
A complete non-issue since D'jok only started being the captain because Rocket left, but he's back now so
Tumblr media
THE KINGS, THE LEGENDS!!!
Aw that little moment of the Snow Kids being a little star struck, getting to play against Aarch and Artegor at their prime. Although I still don't know how that works exactly with the holo-trainer and their irl physical fitness but whatever
THEY'RE PLAYING IN PERFECT SYNC AS IF NO TIME HAS PASSED AAAAAAA
Standing all cool as they tell their Snow Kids to take a break and then immediately crumpling with their middle aged bones ajshahaha
Why does Sonny's English dub voice sound so forced now. "It COULD be a TRAP!!"
Aaaaand now D'jok's leaving as well, that was quick
Are they... you know 😳😳😳
No seriously Sonny's delivery just sells this ahahaha
Tumblr media
I love team Paradisia's designs btw, very y2k. We've even got Clover from Totally Spies here!
Ok quick rant about the attempts at portraying "girl power":
Honestly idk about D'jok being annoyed they're all girls, this with the Elektra's comment earlier are examples of S3 being more heavy-handed like, “yeah these players are girls, but ACTUALLY that doesn't mean they're not good players!”. Compare this to the previous seasons where we just... had players that were really good and happened to be girls, and no one needed to comment on it? Like, Kernor is the top goal keeper and Lun-Zaera is the best striker for the Wambas, plus Tia was the Snow Kid's biggest weapon in season 1 so I don't think D'jok would immediately dismiss the girls like that. Maybe he would be disconcerted at being the only boy, but still. It's like in the lego n/in/ja/go movie where they were like “she's a GIRL, but she can still be a NINJA!” which has a weird psychological effect of actually enforcing to kids that there is some sort of disparity between men and women, when instead they could just portray her as an equal and let that do the talking, no need to manufacture sexism so you can call it out like “hey, we're so progressive!” (not that you can't have stories with that too, I just don't think it makes as much sense in this situation and shows a different approach than the first two seasons).
Rant over <3
NIKKI-4 IS TALLER THAN D'JOK YASSS
I like Team Paradisia's football outfits but what's the point of the visor?
They kind of have the Cyclops' style of attacking, lmao
D'jok you're such a bitch
Y'know at this point Aarch is like. Wow don't we have contracts with any of these kids? With notice periods?
I feel like S3 could have been more fun if the player switching had been more planned like, mix up the teams! The Snow Kids knew they'd have to get a player from another team but for some reason did not seem willing to let go one of their own, even though logically they would have to?
Artegor: He was bad for the team and we're better off without him!
Ah nice to see Artegor's no chill side still comes out sometimes
GASP! What a twist!
Episode 5:
Ooooh new name for a Ryker's player! Kinda wish it was the blue hair one just to distinguish easier lol
Nihla!! Although apparently Nihlis in secondary material. Not sure if it's clear what their gender is in the og French but I hc that the Shadows fuck around with gender anyway
Ok what, I remember this All Stars game happening but I thought it was later. I thought I skipped an episode for a second there because what, there was no mention of this mixed all stars game before at all??
also TIA SHOULD BE ON A TEAM
Nikki-4 sounds like the actual name Nikifor. heh
Rocket and Tia's H2O t-shirts! iconic nerds
My reaction to the Mice-delight advert breaks are the same reaction I have to any advert break
Ah ok so they were all contacted by other teams lol, in my mind Tia got contacted for the All Stars game but she turned them down because things were tumultuous for the Snow Kids and she wanted to be there for them <3
Also why are they dismayed that everyone's been contacted by other teams, that's kind of the point of this mixed flux tournament, no? It means they're good players!
Micro-Ice only got contacted by a fan club? WRITERS STOP CLOWNING ON MICE AND ONLY USING HIM FOR COMEDIC RELIEF HE IS A REALLY TALENTED PLAYER! Artie back me up
Ah ironic, Rocket can't make the flux jump and he falls, as opposed to season 2 when he saved Tia from a fall with the flux. Now I'm imagining Tia jumping up to save him and carrying him bridal style. It should have happened, writers
Rocket: Yeah I'm okay! Rocket: Actually, I take that back
We love a self-aware king who knows his limits <3
Christ it's just disaster after disaster for the Snow Kids, huh
Tumblr media
Callie giving Nork the STINK EYE lol DRAG HIM she at least has some journalistic integrity
D'jok's being such an ass with the way he's talking about the Snow Kids, at least Mei showed there were no hard feelings when she left. What did they do to you, man? I can understand him feeling hurt and needing to get away, but now the show's going back to “D'jok only cares about winning” again. Like sure that could definitely be a front, but the show doesn't really look behind it as far as I remember
YAAAASS LUN-ZEARA
Surprised we didn't start this match with D'jok and Sinedd taunting each other
How dare you use the Pirate's soundtrack and not have a Pirate on the field >:(
YES KERNOR! weird to see her tired out though
Tumblr media
The animation 😭😭😭
ooo call back to Netherball with this resonance thing, glad that has consequences. Cool that they show it affecting other players too, Kernor was the Netherball champion before Rocket after all
Does Simbai get dressed in her flux society clothes just to have a zoom call with them?
Ah wish we had more of that all star game
Episode 6:
Tumblr media
Oh come on this is just sloppy now, he says the Shadows vs Rykers but that's the Pirates' logo. They got it right on the previous shot as well!
Is Mice practicing confessing to Yuki? I thought they were already dating lmao, surely they're past this
Tumblr media
Why is Mark drawn with nipples but Micro-Ice isn't? Wait no he has them too in the next shot, what are the rules here 😂
Ah this scene is a classic. But 🅱lease give Micro-Ice some development that's not just comedic relief, even his stuff with Yuki is played for laughs. What about the fact that his best friend, no, brother, just up and left and shits on the Snow Kids on live TV?
Tumblr media
SHARKY THAT. DOES NOT FEEL VERY LEGAL. SEXUAL HARASSMENT, IN FACT.
Kernor enjoying her little treat <3 I love when we get to see tough characters doing mundane things like eating ice cream.
I love this butler guy who hates his job. His wince when Tia says she needs someone to talk to before he reluctantly offers an ear, LOL. An icon.
Awww I'm glad to see Tia and Mei still being good friends. Mei I missed you!
THE SHADOWS WALKING IN UNISON UNDER THE UMBRELLA DSFJKFSSDF I know I shit on the animation but they do try to put in little things like that. They didn't have to animate that, but they did, for us.
Artie and Bennett shenanigans yaaay
Not Ahito and Thran deciding to watch the Shadows match instead of supporting Yuki
Tumblr media
It's so fun watching the Rykers with how intimidating they are. Unfortunately my brain has been ruined and I keep getting reminded of something else when I see this gesture
Tumblr media
He looks so unbothered 🤣😭😭
Again, what's the point of the Elektra's visor? Their flux looks so cool though
THE SHADOWS PLAYER IS SO TALL COMPARED TO THE CYCLOPS LOL
What position is Mei even playing now
Why didn't Kernor use her flux? Honestly goalkeepers should just use their flux for every save considering they don't have to run around as much
Is it just me or is Ahito not falling asleep as much as before
4-0???!!! NOT A SINGLE GOAL FOR THE RYKERS???!! RUDE!!!
Tumblr media
The look Tia gives Lun-Zia, wtf man, this whole jealousy plot is just ridiculous. SHE WOULD NOT FUCKING DO THAT!
Why ya'll being so mean to Mice, dafuq ToT He just got violated by the paparazzi lmao show some sympathy
Tumblr media
Sidney's reaction to Kernor sfsdfjksfjk good taste sir
OH NO NOT ZOLEEN
Ooooooo Pirates lore!! So they were already a thing before Sonny, he just took control from Magnus Blade and gave them a PR change

Breaking down the comics: Committee of Three (Issue #4)
Moon Knight, Issue #4: A Committee of 5
Written by Doug Moench and drawn by Bill Sienkiewicz
Tumblr media
I’m back! Took a little break to get caught up on some more modern Moon Knight and now I’m ready to jump back into the past!
Now this is an interesting one because “The Committee” was the original group of people that first hired Moon Knight to hunt down Jack Russell (Werewolf by Night). But back then, he and Jack took down the Committee. What could they possibly want with Moon Knight now? Let’s find out!
"Life is seldom easy for the mysterious man called Moon Knight--And it's about to get a whole lot harder! Five seasoned hit-men are out for his blood! They are a committee of:
One: Boom-Boom, explosives expert.
Two: Razor, blade freak.
Three: Ice. Sniper assassin.
Four: Dragon, karate black belt.
and Five: Bull, just plain animal!
All five are professional killers--and they enjoy their work. So it's rather simple really, either they're put out of business--fast--or the shadows will soon run red and echo with ghastly laughter."
I feel like Moon Knight faced a lot of professional assassins in the early runs. The one with them in the snow, then the one with him in Israel...
Also, LOOK AT THIS ART! I love this! Look how they put the words in his cape!
Tumblr media
Also LOL.
We see Moon Knight landing awkwardly next to Rockefeller ice rink while a sniper lines up a shot. He takes aim and fires and we see Moon Knight fall!
He runs down to the rink to check the body. He needs proof of the kill for his bosses. But there is no body!
Moon Knight drops down behind him.
"Still alive--If you believe I have nothing worse than a bullet-hole through my cape... Or still dead--If you prefer to believe that I really AM a ghost. Take your pick, Annie Oakley."
I miss the days when Moon Knight really had a hard time convincing himself that he was alive. He played up the ghost angle so much.
He charges the gunman only to have the gun go off in his face, blinding him! Good job.
The sniper takes the opportunity to smash him in the head with the butt of his rifle. ....Moon Knight sure did take a lot of blows to the head in his early years.
Lucky for him, the gunman is still rattled by the whole ghost thing and flees in a panic, rather than finishing him off.
Recovering, Moon Knight wonders how long the assassin has been stalking him and who sent him.
On the other side of town, The Committee meets to get an update on Moon Knight's status.
Ice, the gunman, tells them that he had him but he's some sort of "spook"!
Ah! It IS the same Committee that hired him to hunt Jack Russel back in his first appearance of Werewolf by Night!!!
One of the guys was apparently on vacation and missed the memos so he asks who they're going after and why.
I love a good excuse for exposition.
"These five gentlemen have been retained to dispose of our personal Frankenstein monster. You DO recall our creation--Moon Knight-- Don't you? He nearly destroyed the original Committee. Now that we've reorganized, we owe it to the committee's honor to settle the score."
The assassins review their plans.
The dynamite guy, Boom-Boom, plans to blow up Moon Kight's vehicle. (Not the cab! Or maybe the Chopper?!) The rest just want to get up and personal.
The guy that was on vacation takes a minute to ask if going after Moon Knight is actually a good idea or not. You know... considering...
The other guy is angry at Moon Knight for taking their money and not delivering the wolf. Also because he turned on them and pretty much nearly wiped them out.
This is just a petty revenge mission.
Back at Grant Mansion!
We find Marlene working out and Moon Knight changing out.
"Well, aren't you the bundle of joy this morning, Mr. Grant? Or is it Mr. Lockley? Spector? Moon Knight--?" She takes playful jabs at him. It's...It's early in the comics so I'm not going to harp on this. Early enough where he himself really doesn't know what's going on and the others are still just him pretending to be someone else.
"Every identity has its place, Marlene, and every identity IN its place. We're in Grant Mansion--Ergo, I've just become Steven Grant." He's a bit snappy about it. He's still trying to compartmentalize and in deep denial.
"Okay, Steven. Bad night?"
"Routine. Seen Frenchie around?"
Frenchie has a place in the committee so he can keep track of their movements. This dates back to WBN.
Frenchie tells him that they've reorganized but he hasn't attended enough meetings since to know what's going on. But he has a feeling that something is going on behind closed doors.
Steven tells him that someone tried to knock off Moon Knight and they weren't an amateur.
The Committee predates Marlene. Or at least they never brought it up to her.
She asks just who these guys are that want him dead so badly.
Frenchie answers for them. "Several years back, Marlene, I learned of a group of international financiers...So I told Marc and we decided to investigate... posing as a French industrialist, I infiltrated them... I told them of a mercenary named Marc Spector who might take zee job, were he provided with anonymity and suitable weapons."
Marc approved the plan and they went back to the committee to introduce Moon Knight, who up to that point hadn't been a household name. Only Bushman had delt with the Moon Knight.
They detail about their efforts fighting the wolf.
"At first it seemed like killing two birds with one stone--Getting to zee bottom of zee committee's crimes while ridding zee world of a monster. But when he saw zee tortured humanity of a young man named Jack Russell locked behind zee horror, he freed zee werewolf and together they destroyed zee committee. This was before Marc became rich as Steven Grant, so he took zee committee's money--ANd left zee werewolf go free to find his own fate."
REALLY?! THAT'S where they got the money from!? What happened to all their money made as mercs? Did they blow it? No wonder Steven's so pissy all the time. He's worked his ass off to make their millions and Marc is just out there blowing through it.
The next day, Jake hits the streets to see if Crawley has any tips.
He does his usual 'gmorning to Gena and asks about her boys.
Then he immediately sides up to Crawley: "Any hitmen in town Crawley?"
Apparently there are five and they all hit the same nightclub in Queens. That's convenient.
He hires Gena's boys to find out the names of all the assassins and if they'll be back at the club.
He loves those kids.
He calls up Marlene and tells her to have Frenchie attend the next committee meeting. He also tells her to "practice your bump and grind, Lady."
Jake's got a way with words.
Oh no. OH NO. I know what issue this is.
The...The night club... It's an airplane. They have a theme.
Gena's sons go to the club to get info.
At the committee meeting, Frenchie busts in pretending to be pissed off not to be included in the previous sessions.
"We were concerned that you might object."
"Why shold I care? I knew zee mercenary Spector, oui, but he was hardly a FRIEND."
Up on the roof, Moon Knight listens in on the meeting as they inform Frenchie of the details.
In the club, the boys get into a bit of trouble but their manage to not only get out of it, but to also get the info they need.
Outside, Marlene is applying for a job in the club.
Yeah... It's...It's this issue.
The meeting over, Moon Knight switches to Lockley to get the info from Gena's boys.
A lot is about to happen here folks. Just…Just get ready for this.
Tumblr media
(early Moon Knight tumblr fandom… If you know you know.)
Here we see Moon Knight startled by some firecrackers. He knows it’s a trap. But we see a cat sniffing at a box while Boom Boom waits.
IN A RARE EVENT. Moon Knight is not left fighting a random animal, but being saved by and saving that animal.
Tumblr media
Boom Boom makes a run for it and Moon Knight stops another dynamite stick from going off with some sharp Crescent dart action! But Boom Boom manages to give him the slip and get away.
Tumblr media
He takes defeat so gracefully.
So next day he heads out as Jake again.
He patrols the streets in his cab looking for news.
I just... I love Jake.
We see Jake come into the mansion to see Marlene heading out to her new job at the club.
Dealing with Marlene, he's instantly Steven. Then the phone rings and it's one of Jake's contacts so he's Jake again. That pose is 100% Jake.
Early issue we see them just cycle through easy peasy but still acting like it's pretend. But it's SO obvious when it's with Marlene. Jake really has no interest in Marlene as anything more than the lady his headmates care about.
It’s something I’ll contend with over and over again. Especially as the much later comics decide that Jake was really the one dating Marlene… But that’s an argument for another day.
Tumblr media
We head over to the Madison Square Garden where Marc and Frenchie attend a boxing match.
They spot some that look like they might be the other assassins and move to follow them. Steven heads to the bathroom to change.
Tumblr media
There's so much going on here that I love so much.
Steven changes in the bathroom. So a tuxedo man walks into the public bathroom... Probably in a stall... ANd changes into Moon Knight...
He left his tux in the bathroom. Probably on the floor or in the trash?
The jab that Grant can afford it. Poor Steven.
The champion boxer being like "Oh man. That's one fast cat. I don't want to tango with that dude."
Also him asking "Wonder if he's got any color under that white mask..." Implying that Moon Knight's so cool that he hopes he's a black man. Which I can respect. He’s got some style.
Then we have Moon Knight jumping into a typical rich person car to tail a cab.
I miss these simple Moon Knight days…
In the next panel we find that he didn't even ride IN the car, but hung onto the side as Frenchie drove.
"Twenty minutes later, North of central park, Moon Knight vaults from the Limo's running board..."
Moon Knight knows that this is another trap. It's a dark and abandoned building.
Yup. As soon as he's inside, he's ambushed by Dragon, the karate guy and the knife guy.
Karate guy pulls out his nunchak. Moon Knight also turns his truncheon into nunchak.
It's the first time we see Moon Knight's new weapon and it remains in the comics for a very long time after this. I love seeing his weapons advance in the comics!
He takes out the knife guy quick then turns to the Dragon.
He comes at Moon Knight, who doges each attack then lands a blow, taking out the blackbelt.
Which is hilarious because he's just a blackbelt in karate. We know at this point that Marc Spector had to learn a lot of different fighting styles in the Special Forces, not to mention his early street Boxing days as a young man. A simple black belt really has nothing on him.
Two down, he gets clocked in the back of the head by the Bull.
Moon Knight lands a few hits but he's still dizzy from the blow to his head. (again with the head).
Frenchie rushes in with a gun and scares off the Bull, who busts through a wall and dissapears.
"I'm getting just a little sick of this, Frenchie--That guy hits like a truck. Why didn't you stay with the limo?"
"I got Board, Marc."
I love Frenchie...
"Now there's a refreshing complaint...But taking there two to the mansion for safekeeping--Blindfolded--Oughtta keep you busy. Then get over to tonight's meeting of the committee."
Back at the club, Marlene has made it in with the head guy of the assassins, Ice, pulling her charms.
Sitting down for a private drink, they are interrupted by a phone call. It's from Bull!
Seems Bull and Boom Boom have decided Moon Knight is more than they really want to deal with.
"We're quittin'. Gonna put the squeeze on the committee instead--easier to just take the money than earn it by tacklin' Moon Knight again. You shoulda seen the way he took out Razor and Dragon!
He's too much, Ice! He's got helpers everywhere--They found Eddie tied up in the back room of Inn Flight--Coupla kids took his gun! They'll pick us off one by one! He's got spies everywhere I tell ya!"
Whoopse. Ice takes note of Marlene who is still sitting right there.
Ice tells them to do what they want. He's still got a job to do.
He tells Marlene he's got a meeting to get to, but she should stay there and wait for him.
Marlene quickly leaves to a payphone (despite a phone being right there in the office. But I guess.) She calls Jake's cab phone to tell him what she just heard.
Ice was waiting and watching the phone. He now knows Marlene is one of the spies.
Back at the main office, Boom Boom and Bull make their play against the committee by rigging the whole building to explode!
Outside, we see Ice climbing the outside of the building next to the warehouse to claim the money for himself!
On the otherside, Moon Knight starts to scale the building itself!
Boom Boom and Bull snag the money and move to make a run for it, but Ice has padlocked the exits! The building is set to explode in five minutes!
Moon Knight figures it out and notes that Frenchie is also trapped inside!
Ice makes it to the roof on the other building and spots Moon Knight on the roof, putting him back in his crosshairs.
Bull manages to bust through the door like before, but Frenchie is still deep inside the building.
Just as Ice takes his shot, the building explodes and collapses, sending the bullet right over Moon Knight's head as he falls with the building.
Tumblr media
Gotta love that glider cape. Also gotta love Frenchie’s smarts.
Moon Knight makes a break for Bull.
As he runs, Ice opens fire again.
Moon Knight dives through the bullets, still after Bull.
Yeah he...He takes another blow to the head, knocking him to the floor of the little motor boat.
Moon Knight rolls, trying to knock Bull over. Unfortunately, this puts Bull right into Ice's bullets and he takes one to the chest.
The boat crashes, sending Moon Knight flying. He's having a good night.
Laing stunned on the dock, he's back in the crosshairs. Just before Ice can take his shot....
Marlene kicks the gun away!
And we see Moon Knight again, a sad wet cat crawling on the ground. He does this a lot.
Tumblr media
"Like a ragged creature escaped from hell, he stands on the roof, the precious rifle clenched in granite hands..."
Moon Knight snaps the riffle in two over his knee. Then he knocks Ice out.
The cops later find all the remaining assassins on their door steps with a note "Night deposit" nailed to the door with a crescent dart.
He's got class.
Back at the mansion, Grand invites everyone over for a feast.
Which is funny considering that it's not till a later episode that he reveals himself as Jake and Steven and Marc and Moon Knight and that he's rich. But who's keeping track of continuity?
Grant reveals all the money that was supposed to go to the assassins from the committee. He divides it up among the friends, with a good amount going to charities.
I love this issue. It’s fun, it’s quirky, it’s an early issue that is still trying to establish who everyone is and how the dynamic functions, and you have a LOT of Moon Knight getting hit in the head or having the bad guys get away with him getting frustrated over it.
It’s got so much character! And maybe this is just me coming off of reading…the worst issues ever (Bemis, Aaron, Bendis)... But this was much needed. Really refreshing. Even the art style is so clean and just full of everything I love about Moon Knight.

Rock Paper Scissors
It's been almost six years since bsd started airing, and I decided to go back to season 1 after watching the season 4 premier last night and reading the latest chapter (best Wednesday of 2023 so far).
It's been so long I forgot that Atsushi's entrance exam starts with Kunikida and Dazai playing rock-paper-scissors
Tumblr media
Where Dazai wins every on of the three rounds and sends Kunikida to crawl around on tables and tackle Tanizaki. We don't assume from this point that it's a manipulation, only that it's typical comedy or maybe someone being very good at guessing the other person's body language.
Tumblr media
By chapter 105, we've seen Dazai manipulate his way into impossible situations before, and once again playing a game with a partner in front of a supposed life or death situation.
This arc has exposed a lot more of what is Dazai's more serious and less performative side of his personality than the other arcs before. We know he, through Mori's training, is a master at game theory and pragmatic strategies. Even after working with the ADA for nearly three years by this point* Dazai manipulations in preference to explaining, even distracting his own coworkers from what work he does behind the scenes in order to prevent them from worrying and/or keep his movements free from scrutiny.
*(time gets wishy washy in bsd, but Atsushi has been with the agency for quite a few months by where we are in the manga and all the light novel things apparently take place between what we've seen from the anime and manga so far. With the events of even the Hunting Dog arc to now stretching nearly a month or so, I estimate at least eight to nine** months since Atsushi's recruitment to now, even without much seasonal change, simply because there is otherwise too much going on with the light novel missions included, but that's not necessary for the meta)
**amendment after reviewing events through overthinking, it's more like 5-6 months max given Akutagawa's promise, which I forgot about. The timeline does make Dazai trying so hard to save Atsushi's life in the Guild arc more poignant, it's really a mentor choosing a new apprentice to take care of and it makes how the rest of the agency operates around Atsushi during the cannibalism arc also make more sense)
Tumblr media
It's sort of fun to realize that in the first few chapters, Dazai's hand was hidden. What's maybe even more fun is getting a "glimpse behind the curtain" of Dazai's scheming. We know he plans for a lot of scenarios, he reads the flow of things in Yokohama and predicts likely scenarios from small bits of information.
Even Ranpo says that he's hard to deal with. Ranpo sees a lot more than most people do, he probably has most of the same information Dazai does a lot of the time, even if he doesn't necessarily have the context for it (having not spend time in the city's underworld).
Tumblr media
Which maybe again begs the question of why Ranpo and the Agency have struggled so much against the Decay of the Angel. Fukuchi might have more resources, but so did the Port Mafia and the Guild. Dazai technically beat Dostoevsky during the Corruption arc even if Dostoevsky might have been expecting the scenario.
Fukuchi's sword sort of means he can see a few seconds into the future, but he still has a harder time beating Fukuzawa, who from what we've seen is probably the better swordsman in every sense of the word since Fukuzawa's way of the sword has a lot more to do with lifestyle and Plot Themes than with simple martial capability.
The last few pages of chapter 105 lay out clearly that what Dazai and Dostoevsky do is this illusionist type manipulating and misdirection, practiced and subtle enough that no one around them really realizes they're doing it. At this point, I wonder if they even notice.
In the way that young Ranpo and his genius parents didn't notice that the rest of the world is not lying, they just don't make deductions the way Ranpo does. Dazai and Dostoevsky feel isolated from other people not just because of their abilities but perhaps in part because the redirection is almost second nature. Dazai's power generally distances him from exactly the kinds of people who might be able to understand what it's like to live as an ability user. I suspect Dostoevsky's power has something to do with causing proportional harm to people who want to hurt him, but it's possible he determines what "hurt" means, or that he's unable to control whether his ability reacts to someone wanting to hurt him versus whether they intend to act on it (ie Ango's subordinate who tried to handcuff him and ended up dead? likely dead).
Tumblr media
I don't know why Dazai says this to Sigma, of all people. They've never met before, despite Sigma having some similarity to both of his protege's backgrounds, or maybe because if Dazai gets his hands on the Page, there's every possibility Sigma will just disappear. Or I suppose, there is something I do understand in that Sigma is considered the epitome of the "average human" even though Dazai is right and there is technically no such thing.
This is a story that tells uses the names and backgrounds of story writers. One of my favorite things to read, and which I myself have a difficult time emulating, are short stories about the lives of normal people - how they perceive the successes and failures of their small day to day actions, how they invent or experience grand cause and effect even when there is likely no such thing, how they lie to themselves and how they invent truth.
I think a lot of people who relate to Dazai, both the character and the author, can understand having a fear of people. Humans are unpredictable, and those moments of unpredictability are what make things dangerous.
If you can predict someone's actions or even entice them into going the way you expect, it can make things safer. It can also make them very very lonely. Dazai is also smart enough to see how things might go if he didn't manipulate things, leading him to wonder when is anyone being genuine with him if he can himself alter most situations. It's a self perpetuating problem that others around him can sometimes insert themselves into, but it's not easy. Dazai's level of intelligence, his sense of humor or habitual "clowning", and his depression each have served to isolate him in different ways from "normal" people.
And yet:
"I am not a superhuman beyond the limits of human wisdom."
I think he knows that members of the Agency are starting to see him for who is is, but more importantly, Dazai himself is finally acknowledging that despite the layer upon layer of facade, despite the fact that he may not be understood at every single moment, he's not completely unknowable.
In the context of his ability, his recently killing Chuuya (maybe for real and maybe for good but we hope not, we hope that the water tank is maybe part of the "tension and timing") and a lot of other people, this undeniably dark part of him that we've never seen before, Dazai is somehow more transparent than at any other time. He's a human who likes playing games, who is resentful of this nearly month long imprisonment, whose bandages stop before his elbow, who is angry with other people and what they represent to him, and who is trying to show someone who has only seen how people can use him that maybe there's some way to protect himself, some way to become individual and break out of the meaningless tale Fyodor has tried to write them into, that no person's way of being human can ever be average.
Then again, everything is one hand or the other, so who knows what lies behind this confession yet.

1 + 2 (pre relationship) and 1 + 2 (general) for reid !!! - @dogcodedcatboy :3
hi cricket! thank you for the ask, i love your ship with roman it is very silly to me/pos :]
PRE-RELATIONSHIP:
1. How did they first meet?
Okay, I sort of mentioned this in another ask but I'll go into a little more detail now.
In season 3, episode 9 of CM, it follows the aftermath of the team's technical analyst Penelope getting shot. I basically had already planned on my s/i being a forensic sketch artist but I was having a hard time figuring out when I'd come in so when I got to this episode it was like everything kinda fell into place.
About twelve minutes in, Spencer tells Penelope they have a sketch artist coming in (meee :D) to draw up the guy who hurt her. So I figure Spencer and I met a little bit before this scene to discuss the situation.
I end up befriending Penelope during this time and visit with her in the hospital while the others are off doing their job and tracking down the guy who hurt her, and she basically is the one that convinces me to try and become a profiler for the team. Spencer, of course, recognizes me when we get the chance to properly meet months later.
2 has been answered here.
GENERAL:
1. Who initiated the relationship, and how did it go?
About to go into, like, an insane amount of detail because I was actually daydreaming about this earlier today. Um there will be C.riminal M.inds spoilers for anyone worried about that.
*opens up a timeline of the entire series off-tab*
So, we meet for the first time in season 3, episode 9 (Mid-November 2007). Afterwards, I undergo training at the academy in 2008 January through May, then we meet properly when I graduate and join the team in June.
I'm gonna give myself an aneurysm trying to figure out the exact details to a T, but just trust me, there's an overlap in qualifications needed to be a sketch artist and a special agent (because obviously I wouldn't start off immediately as an SSA- I'm thinking about this way too deeply. Listen if S.eaver can join the team before even graduating from the Academy then I can do something like that too okay. Plus, I have Penelope vouching for me, I'm sure she could pull a few strings where need be).
Anyways uh. Our glorious friendship blossoms over the span of almost a year, coming to a head in season 4, episode 24 (May 2009), where Spencer almost dies due to anthrax poisoning. You know that trope where one person confesses their love because they think they're going to lose the person they love? Yeah, I do that during the ride to hospital, and he remembers but neither of us bring it up again because we are SO DUMB. Woohoo!
Fast forward to season 5, episode 1 (which also takes place in May 2009, if my sources are correct) and Spencer gets shot in the knee, so I end up temporarily moving in with him to make sure he's not all alone with an injury. I become his roommate for about six to seven months to look after him while his knee's healing, and it isn't until after H.otch's wife is killed in season 5, episode 9 (December 2009) that he decides to casually be like "you know I love you too, right?"
We just have this moment where I ask him why he didn't tell me sooner and he says he thought maybe I was just stressed and worried when I'd confessed and didn't want to make me uncomfortable by bringing it up. We kind of just laugh it off and realize we're both dummies for not just talking to each other sooner.
So I guess, in a way, we both took steps to initiate the relationship, but he was the one to finally really bring it up face-to-face. We end up going on an actual date after this and make it official sometime around then.
2. Did they have an official first date? If so, what was it like?
I'm gonna try to answer this in less excruciating detail than the last question. I actually talked about this a bit before here. Although I think I'm gonna retcon the part that says we don't hold hands before dating.
Apparently the squeakquel was in theaters December 2009? Imagine how funny it would be if we saw that on our first date.
No but I imagine our first date probably would've been him taking me to see a foreign movie and whispering the translations in my ear and holding hands. We would both be really nervous because oh my god we're going on a date, but then we relax and remember that it's just us. We're best friends, we hang out all the time. But we spend the entire movie mostly focused on each other and smiling like dorks.
I'm back living in my own apartment by this point (but we live in the same complex so it's cool) so he walked me back to my place like a true gentleman and gave me a nervous kiss on the cheek goodnight and a hug. We were both very giddy afterwards and just glad that we didn't have to hide how we felt anymore.

Note
the racism was uncomforable in the headless horror my other problem with it was how the guy just took his wife putting him in the hositpal as no big dea.... it just felt so unbelievable..
relationships in this show are very..strange to me... we got velma abusing shaggy/ velma the smart one being jealous of scooby/ fred showing zero interest in daphne until the plot demands it/ daphne/velma alone come off too pushy that it gets uncomfortable/ and thats just season 1
season 2 i wont spoil much cause im not sure how far ya are. im only about 5-6 eps in but i ididnt want to see a jealous fred act like a crazed ex but they decided woo its comedy to kidnap your ex girlfriend/ and again we have a women being weird to shaggy but an old women so its 100 times worse and just played off as a joke.. this show is just mean to shaggy
so how this show was recommended after velma is beyond me.. at best the background animation is good and we got the voice of kronk/ and frank welker is having fun i think tis amazing he can still do him so well at 70 / but they can only do so much to make it bearable with all the romance drama/ plot twists it reminds me of a cw show but animated
yeah like that's what i mean when i say this show really just isn't written well. there are some really cool concepts, but rarely are they executed to their fullest potential. characters make choices not based on their own personality and goals, but for the convenience of the plot and creation of conflict, which often leads to some really unfortunate side effects when you actually think about what's happening. as an example i wanna break down the fred and daphne thing, but this kind of writing is present throughout the whole first season (which is all i've seen so far, though i've heard a decent amount of things about season 2, but i'll try to stick to what i've personally watched for the most part)
like, at first fred shows no interest in daphne beyond friendship, but is a pretty good friend to her, while daphne is head over heels for fred to the point that she has basically no personality outside of that. yet, there isn't anything about fred that she actually likes. in the first episode she says that he's like one of those geniuses that's isn't appreciated in their time, but it's clear from later episodes that her and the rest of the gang think that he's stupid. beyond that, everything he says is annoying or boring to her unless it's him showing her romantic affection, and even then, only in certain ways.
later in season 1, fred suddenly switches from having no romantic interest in daphne to being in love with her, for no discernible reason. we know he didn't just secretly have a crush on her before, because we know that when he shows interest in someone he becomes incredibly jealous and possessive, and in episode 3 (before he liked her) he was totally supportive of her going on the date with rung. she ends gets so upset about him not reciprocating her feelings in the way she wants (as if she's owed that or something) and for having the audacity to like things that aren't her, that she writes a diss track about him and rejects him when he actually DOES reciprocate her feelings.
then there's that whole thing where he asks her on a date to the trap museum, and she gets really mad about it… for some reason? it's apparently because he makes everything about traps instead of her? she then gets all googly-eyed over a teacher, fred gets jealous, and then daphne says that she has the teacher's phone number and that they're planning on going on a date… at the trap museum. which either means: 1. she doesn't actually mind learning about traps and she's just annoyed that he's continuing to have an interest in the thing he's interested in for no reason, or 2. she's lying about having a date with the teacher, and is just saying that to hurt him. also, side note, the show never addresses or even implies that there's anything wrong with the teacher/student relationship aspect of all this. like, at all. the issue being presented here is that daphne's making fred jealous, because they liiiike each other~. at the end of the episode he calls her his girlfriend, and suddenly she's totally not mad at him anymore and is like "oh i would LOVE to go to the trap museum with you"… even though he was LITERALLY asking her out on a date at the beginning of the episode! which means he thinks of her as his girlfriend! nothing changed! she just changed her mind because it was time for that conflict to be over.
then fred and daphne are together and it's pretty much fine for a while, but then fred starts acting really controlling about her, almost verging on stalker territory. he starts making a list of all her habits and whereabouts, keeping track of her schedule and trying to control her and their relationship. she becomes (rightfully) uncomfortable with this, and says to velma it's giving her trust issues. she doesn't really talk about it to him directly, instead she asks a spirit board about the issue in front of him and he notices. later they actually DO talk about it, he apologizes for his behavior and it's chalked up to him being overprotective because of his issues over his absent mom. the one that scooby said was hot. that part's not relevant but i think it bears mentioning. anyway i actually felt like the way this conflict between them was handled fairly decently for this show. fred has an obsessive personality so this being a character flaw makes sense, daphne not talking to him about it right away and being a little immature about addressing it makes sense fits because she's a teenager, and they did talk about it and work it out. the problem doesn't come from this specific episode but the fact that fred… doesn't actually stop being controlling about daphne in later episodes (like i know about the kidnapping thing and doll with her real hair and the getting mad at/bullying marcie for not being daphne… ugh. don't even get me started on the way the gang treats marcie.)
then fred ends up proposing to daphne out of nowhere (they're still in high school btw), saying he wants her to solve mysteries with her forever, and she's over the moon about it. she gets really into it and starts planning right away, wanting to one-up her sisters and all that. when she tries to talk to fred about wedding stuff though, he's totally disinterested, and she continues to be disinterested in anything about him that doesn't revolve around her. great basis for a future marriage /s. they end up telling their parents who don't approve, velma and shaggy get mad at them for not telling them about the engagement, yada yada, whatever. at the end of season finale when the truth comes out about fred's past, he calls the engagement off completely because he wants to find his real parents, alone. the guy who is supposedly all about the team and wanted them to all move in together after high school and to solve mysteries together with daphne forever… wants to solve the mystery of locating his parents on his own. why??? well obviously because the writers want to separate them all for the dramatic ending, of course! and they didn't bother to set up any real justification for that beforehand that would actually make sense.
what's worse though is if you think about that ending from a totally in-universe perspective, it makes fred look REALLY bad. like, he proposed to daphne to keep her bound to him forever, but the second it felt more convenient to not have her around, he throws her in the garbage? AND continues to be obsessive and controlling about her later?
i think fred being controlling can be a good character flaw to have, in fact be cool scooby-doo did that really well in my opinion, but when you apply that character flaw to a romantic relationship, i think you have to be REALLY careful about how you portray that, and the show doesn't exactly have the best track record when it comes to condemning toxic behavior like that. plus, the level of control can only go up to a certain point severity and persist for a certain amount of time before it stops being an innocent mistake.
and this is just. how the show is written. in general. characters do nonsensical things for the convenience of the writers, which often paints them as being petty, fickle, and shallow. they often do mean or selfish things purely for the purpose of creating conflict and nothing else, which makes them come off as being bad people. im not opposed to shows where the characters are deeply flawed or even the villains, but it really doesn't feel like it's on purpose with the main 5. their bad behavior is often justified or left uncriticized or unpunished
when velma's hitting shaggy (and doing so hard enough to hurt him) for talking the way he talks, fred and daphne completely ignore it. the only one who cares about it is shaggy, who's later villainized for breaking up with the girl who abused him, demeaned him, and tried control him, after she gave him an ultimatum to get rid of his best friend! a member of their team! do fred or daphne ever tell her, "hey, scooby's our pal, and asking shaggy to get rid of him is really selfish of you"? nope! she continues to go on and on about how "he left her for a dog" for the whole rest of the season, and plenty of other characters throughout the show sympathize with her or mock shaggy for his (correct) choice. nobody ever stands up for him or defends him at all.
there's not even any discernible reason why any of them are interested in each other romantically. hell, there's no discernible reason why any of them are friends at all! well, besides velma and daphne bonding over their shared entitlement to the boys they're into, and similar shallow romance drama and other stereotypical ~girl things~. i wouldn't even say they all share a love for mystery solving-- shaggy and daphne don't seem like they could care less about that, and even fred and velma don't feel like they like it as much as every other iteration of those characters i've come across. fred mostly just cares about setting traps and nine times out of ten velma would rather angst over shaggy or get a pedicure with daphne than focus on the mystery. they solve mysteries together because that's what's dictated by the show they're in. that's it. they're not even very good at it! in the first half of season 1 mr. e is holding their hands, guiding them through some of the most obvious and clear-cut mysteries i've seen from this franchise. the writers try to make them look smarter by deliberately not showing key clues to the audience (who can probably figure it out anyway by ruling out the obvious red herrings and paying attention to the basic structure, even if they're given 0 clues or motives that actually incriminate the character), and this just makes the reveals feel cheap, and further highlights how ridiculous some of the explanations are.
and i could just keep going, really, but i won't because this is already getting really long.
like i said, there's some cool concepts and ideas here, and every once in a while there will be an episode or scene or line that's pretty good. the backgrounds are nice, same with the designs of a lot of the monsters. i liked the episode with the orc biker gang, i thought the frighthound was really creepy, i like there being an overarching plot and getting to see the gang's school and home lives, i like there being an old mystery incorporated, i like fred being autistic (even if the representation there is flawed), i love fred jones sr (i guess since they make all the characters selfish assholes, it turns out that when that's what they're supposed to do, they do a pretty good job), etc. if this show had different writers, ones that think things through, can write women, that don't perpetuate toxic relationship dynamics or sexualize teenagers, that know how to craft mysteries with proper pacing and intrigue, that have a grasp on humor beyond cynical mean-spiritedness (which sometimes bleeds into outright bigotry), it probably WOULD be the best scooby-doo show.
and yeah, it's really ironic that this was the show everyone was recommending as an alternative to hbo's velma, because it seems like they share a lot of the same problems, velma's just a lot less subtle about it.

I know it's not technically spooky time yet since it's only September but we got Spirit of Halloween so i think it's fair to ask: do you have like a...top 5 songs that give you the creeps?
As far as I'm concerned September is the true beginning of Halloween season, and this is a great question!
Fair warning that several of these songs are very disturbing. Listener's discretion is advised 🎧
Well to start with perhaps an obvious pick, "My Heaven" from Silent Hill 1's OST still freaks me out to this day. Honestly the entire sound design of SH is top notch when it comes to scaring the hell out of me while playing, but this track manages to unnerve me even when I'm not experiencing the moment this plays in-game. It's those damn dentist drills! What a brilliant and terrifying idea!
Speaking of instrumentals, while I'm not nearly as disturbed by Ruth White's music as I used to be when I first discovered her (though that's largely due to me obsessively listening to Flowers of Evil until I grew numb to the horrors), this ONE track of hers called "Love Gives Wings (With Wings)" still freaks me out. It starts off relatively calming, only to descend into a chaos of electronic noise in a way that makes me feel like I'm witnessing a horrific crime unfold before my very eyes. I can't even imagine what this must've been like for people to listen to when it came out in the late 60's o_0
"Frankie Teardrop" by Suicide remains the most overtly disturbing song I've ever listened to. Fair warning, the song is a story about a man shooting his infant child and wife before killing himself (and descending into hell), so if that triggers you DON'T listen to this! The droning music and clear-cut, nervous delivery of each and every lyric makes the story so engaging that I basically force myself to listen to it in full, and even still every blood curdling scream still jumpscares me each time despite roughly knowing when they're coming, and those last 5 minutes of this 10-minute mental breakdown of a song genuinely makes me feel like my soul is traveling down to hell with Frankie to listen to him suffer. Also apparently Bruce Springsteen was inspired by this song when he wrote his album Nebraska...
I'd also add "Hamburger Lady" by Throbbing Gristle onto my list here, mostly in regards to how this song actually manages to sound so sonically disgusting to my eardrums. Can't name many songs that do that to me. Though I must confess compared to all these other songs I honestly find it less creepy and more just plain sad, since the song is about a burn victim dying from their horrific wounds (another huge trigger I should warn about).
Out of all of these creepy songs, my absolute favorite of them has to be "I Have a Special Plan for This World" by Current 93. This one is an entire 22 minutes of spoken word poetry set to a subtle, haunting ambient track that's essentially a disturbing mental exodus on one man's hatred and morbid fascination with the daily darkness of humanity. The themes I personally get from it are nihilism, intrusive thoughts of death, and a downward spiral of depression. I'd say compared to all the others this one has the most subtly to its disturbing aspects; no loud noises, no freaky uses of sound (besides the garbled speech between the verses), just a series of dark poetry spoken plainly against a sad, dreamlike backdrop of electronic music. Absolute masterclass.

A Whovian Watches Star Trek for the First Time: Part 079 - Attack on the Medical Storage Station
Star Trek: Enterprise - Season 4 Episode 5 - Cold Station 12
Tumblr media
The cold open to this one was great. It was a simple history lesson between Arik Soong and the Augments as children, but it did wonders in establishing Soong's ideology and how he indoctrinated to him. It's really good because what he said is technically the truth, humans apparently do fear genetic modification, but the way he twists that to his own cause is just great writing.
After the intro, we cut to Enterprise in the modern day, and the crew have touched down at that same location from the flashback. Of course, since the augments and soong are going to "liberate" more Augments, they're not here.
Archer finds some old recordings of Soong raising the Augments, particularly a birthday party, which confirms his parental love for them is real, and I'm still really excited to see how that dynamic plays out. Later we cut to Soong on the stolen klingon ship, and he deerly misses Raakin, and is genuinely saddened by his death. The way Malik also manipulates the way he tells the story, to make it seem like an accident is beautifully sinister.
The Crew also encounter one person who was apparently left behind in the colony. They over power him quickly after he attacks, and take him aboard enterprise. Phlox does some analysis, and apparently he doesn't have any of the other Augment's enhancements.
The augments and soong are heading to Cold Station 12, a Human and Denobulan run facility where the Augment embryo's are stored. Apparently, we're finally going to meet Phlox's friend Dr Lucas who's the director of the facility, and Phlox also has briefly worked there before, and he requests to be part of the boarding crew. While these preparations are being done, however, the augments arrive at the facility and easily overtake it.
Smike, the non-augmented augment is an interesting character. Him coming to terms with the fact that everything he was told about earth is wrong is an interesting character arc. And phlox's personal concern over his friend is also excellent.
We also get some more insight into Archer's father, who was briefly brought up in the previous episode, who died of a disease that could have been cured by the kind of genetic engineering that Soong is fighting for. Putting the conflict so close the archer personally is really interesting. I'm excited to see where he lies on the topic by the end of this arc.
Malik and Soong are still fantastic as villains. I'm still loving Soong's energy, and I'm starting to see lines drawn between where the two stand on certain issues. The methods of torture he uses to get the codes for the Embryo's out of Doctor Lucas are genuinely terrifying. Throughout the episode, Malik and Soong's disagreements push closer and closer to boiling over and I just can't wait to see who wins out when that happens
The Enterprise crew that gets transported onto the station are very quickly captured, and Soong's reunion with Smike is really touching. I like that Soong is playing the cognitive dissonance game over the other Augments treatment of Smike, and not seeing it as the obvious flaw in his ideology that it is. His genuine parental love is still there, and it's just a really interesting trait to have Soong happily support Smike's decision to work with the Enterprise crew, even if it's going against his own goals. Soong is a really fascinating character. Malik however, has other plans for smike, and kills him while Soong is in the Embryo storage.
At the end of the episode, Soong gets away with all of the Embryos, and Malik also decides to take some alien pathogens with them to use as a weapon, and we're left on another cliff-hanger as they escape and all the pathogens on the station are also set to release and kill everyone on the station.
This episode was another excellent one. A lot my conclusion here is gonna be exactly the same as yesterdays, I'm just loving this arc's themes and particularly it's villains. Soong and Malik are just really fascinating characters.

JLB Miraculous Reviews: S5E1 Evolution
(Obvious Spoilers for Miraculous Season 5)
Tumblr media
Well, this is my first time doing this. For those who aren't familiar with my blog (that being the case, a warm welcome to you), I'm that one guy who makes Miraculous characters realistic using Artbreeder lately. And I'm planning to do other things at the moment. Since the first episode of the fifth season of Miraculous has already been released about almost a week ago, I figured that I should make a review about this episode. I might also make reviews of the other episodes this season if I have the time to do so. I would probably make a review of "Multiplication" since it has already been released earlier today.
This episode follows the events of the Season 4 finale. After having almost all of the Miraculouses in his reach, Gabriel turns into Monarch (we'll talk about his... design later). He uses the Rabbit Miraculous to return to a moment in past Ladybug and Cat Noir's time to capture their Miraculous. Unfortunately, he somehow screws up even though he has literally EVERY MIRACULOUS IN HIS REACH (plotholes at it's finest, isn't it?)
And with that, let's dive into Evolution: the first episode of Miraculous Season 5.
The episode starts off where the Season 4 finale ended, with Ladybug and Cat Noir observing as the people of Paris cheer for them and preparing to face the new villain, Monarch. Monarch threatens to attack Paris ruthlessly unless they give Ladybug and Cat Noir's Miraculouses. Despite this, the Parisians still supports them and boos at Monarch while throwing stones at him, even though according to the show itself, she's to blame for Gabriel's supposed victory and not you know, the one who betrayed her? Because it's apparently one of the show's rules that Marinette makes a mistake in each episode, no matter how unrelated it is to her.
Tumblr media
Huh, I wonder what "mistake" she will make in this episode.
Ladybug and Cat Noir destroys the shield containing the illusion message retriever with ease. Funny, I thought there would be some kind of intense fight between the duo and Monarch that would show how powerful he is now. But I guess they're still as strong as ever seeing how easily they got rid of his illusion.
Ladybug thanks Cat Noir and he reiterates how it's just the two of them now.
We then go to Gabriel doing his usual thing, talking to his about to be dead wife. The next scene goes back and forth between Gabriel and the heroes. When Gabriel tells her that their victory is almost complete as he has got almost all the miraculouses, Ladybug assures the people of Paris that Monarch's victory will never be complete. When Gabriel silences Sass, Ladybug and Cat Noir says they'll never be silenced. When Ladybug and Cat Noir says they won't be prisoners of Monarch, Gabriel makes it clear to the Kwamis that they're his slaves.
Gabriel then makes a great plan using the Rabbit Miraculous to go back in time and defeat the heroes at their more vulnerable state. He fuses it with the Butterfly Miraculous to transform himself into Monarch.
Tumblr media
I... have no words. What the hell is this supposed to be? Just when I thought that I would get over Shadow Moth and Shadow Noir's horrible designs, the animators decided to bring me this. What were they thinking! Why does he look like he's naked without that vest thing on his chest? Why do his weapons change color when his Miraculouses don't? Why is his hair white? Why is his skin purple? He can't even pull of unnatural skin colors, unlike Mayura, as his looks hideous! He looks like as if Thanos joined the biker gang and suffered from sleep deprivation. Keep in mind, this is supposedly Gabriel at his strongest form. The only good thing that I can say about his costume is that the mosaic thing on his vest looks cool. But other than that, this is definitely not an improvement from the atrocious designs he had last season! Seriously though, how is this guy a so-called fashion designer?
Just when Ladybug starts to tell Cat Noir the possible reason of the loss of the Miraculouses, Monarch stumbles through a time portal. They notice the portal opening, from which Rabbit Noir and Ladybug from a few minutes to the future are chasing Monarch who is seemingly getting weaker using multiple miraculouses at the same time. Another portal opens from which Bunnyx, the Rabbit Miraculous holder of the future, warns Ladybug and Cat Noir of the present about Monarch possibly ruining the spacetime continuum. Trust me, it gets a lot more confusing as the episode goes on. Bear with me on this.
Seriously though, as soon as Monarch is inside the Burrow, he literally enters in the events of Lady Wifi without even having a second thought! He didn't even try to be elusive and use the Miraculouses as a way to avoid corrupting time itself (Fox Miraculous, Rooster Miraculous). Doesn't he know that just a minutes change in the past can have drastic effects in the future? And this is folks, why time travel should've never been introduced in this show at the first place!
The heroes are even worse! I'm not even joking when I say that literally everyone was dumbed down so that the plot wouldn't end in one episode! Instead of taking them back to the time were Félix was about to fetch Ladybug's yo-yo, she takes them to stop Monarch from taking Ladybug's Miraculous in Lady Wifi's time. Ladybug ties up Monarch with her yo-yo but instead of taking all the Miraculouses back, they... explain to him how Bunnyx's powers work and say that they're going to defeat him... Which gives Monarch the opportunity to unify the Fox, Bee and Turtle Miraculous to escape, conjure Mirage of Monarch clones to distract the heroes, paralyze Bunnyx with Venom and trap her in a Shell-ter. God, can you imagine how STUPID this scene sounds?
Tumblr media
Not trying to salt on them though, this is the result of ridiculous plot armor. Thank you, writers.
Cat Noir uses Cataclysm to break Shell-ter while Ladybug ties up Monarch again, but Monarch uses Wind Dragon to escape through a portal.
Since future Alix is suffering a magical stroke at the moment, Cat Noir takes the Rabbit Miraculous from her and gives it to Ladybug for her to fuse. Instead of using it herself, Ladybug offers it to him.
It is an admittedly nice scene showcasing Ladybug's trust in Cat Noir. I like the idea of her trusting him something as big as this. It's definitely a far cry from her UNINTENTIONALLY keeping him in the dark last season. Granted, it does kinda give a weird feeling how Ladybug's first step in putting trust in Cat Noir is through entrusting him the most powerful and dangerous Miraculous in such a dire situation where she herself can use it. With that said, I still love that Ladybug is starting to let Cat Noir in with the much bigger responsibilities.
Cat Noir then fuses himself with the Rabbit Miraculous, transforming into Rabbit Noir.
Tumblr media
Rabbit Noir has a very cute and adorable unification design I'm happy that he isn't bald again. The teal lightings in his costume goes perfectly with the black bodysuit. The rabbit ears and tail fits well with the costume. While I think that they could've added more flare fluff to his look, I'm fine with the simple aesthetic as it doesn't feel like there's too many things happening at once. In other words, Rabbit Noir is amazing and isn't like the atrocity that is Pennybug (she has a good hairstyle though).
Rabbit Noir uses his powers to follow Monarch to the Riposte timeline. Monarch plans to ambush a vulnerable past Cat Noir but fails because he is suffering from wearing too much Miraculouses. Ladybug and Rabbit Noir catches up but Monarch jumps into the Heroes Day timeline. It's funny how past Ladybug, Cat Noir and Riposte didn't see what's happening behind them. Monarch tries to surprise attack a de-transformed past Ladybug and Cat Noir in the sewers, but present Ladybug and Rabbit Noir prevents him. They knock him down the Animan timeline, where Alya and Nino had their possible first kiss.
Tumblr media
Interesting.
Anyway, Monarch stumbles through the events of the start of the episode. Rabbit Noir and Ladybug catch up and chase Monarch who is seemingly getting weaker using multiple miraculouses at the same time. Deja vu, am I right?
Monarch travels to the Nazi occupation of Paris in World War II while Rabbit Noir and Ladybug catch up. Monarch unifies the Dog Miraculous and tags his Rabbit Miraculous with his ball in an attempt to Fetch it if the heroes ever got hold of it. But because he's been wearing too many Miraculouses, he collapses to the ground.
And instead of doing the obvious and you know, taking the chance and get all the Miraculouses back while he's still unconscious, they managed to do something even dumber. THEY STOOD THEIR SHOCKED FOR A FEW SECONDS, TOOK ONLY THE RABBIT FROM HIM AND GOT DISTRACTED BY PAST FU AND MARIANNE RUNNING AWAY FROM THE NAZIS, GIVING MONARCH THE CHANCE TO GAIN CONSCIOUSNESS AGAIN TO FETCH THE RABBIT MIRACULOUS AND ESCAPE.
Just... why. This is the one of the problems I have with this episode. Ladybug and Cat Noir have been represented with so many opportunities where they could've gotten the Miraculouses back as Monarch gets weaker and weaker and guess what? They still manage to screw up those chances! If this is the way the writers are trying to show that Monarch is so powerful and formidable, then they're clearly not doing their job very well. This is not the way in making a villain formidable! This is just adding more plot armor to the already heavy plot armored show. Dumbing down characters won't make other characters shine. This is just Lila Rossi all over again. God, imagine the salt fics that would transpire from this. Stop giving them ammo, Marinette and Adrien!
Ladybug then used her Lucky Charm, gaining a box that is used for storing one Miraculous. This is the same Lucky Charm that was failed to be utilized in the Season 2 finale. Ladybug then spots the Miracle Box past Fu has.
On the other hand, Monarch travels down to the Reverser timeline and sees past Ladybug and Cat Noir at the Eiffel Tower getting of a taxi while under the effects of the akumatized villain. Monarch tries to ambush them but is forced to de-transform due to his weakened state. Sass warns him that Kwamis need to eat or otherwise they and their powers become weak. If he destroys the Kwamis in the process, he will destroy himself too. So Monarch has no choice but to travel back to the time where he is about to start his plan and walks up to Nathalie, while still on the train with Lila. He asks her to give the Kwamis food.
Ladybug and Rabbit Noir pull Past Fu to an alleyway after he and Marianne separates ways. They explain to him why they're here and that they need a Miraculous. Past Fu surprisingly goes along with this and gives her the Dog Miraculous, even though he explains to Marianne that he doesn't want to fight the Nazis using the Miraculouses in Backwarder. She promises that she'll return it to him as soon as possible so that the timeline won't go bananas.
Back in the present, Alix, who is surprisingly absent last season, and her father Alim have an interesting conversation about her future (it is revealed that Alix wants to take engineering after she graduates). Ladybug and Rabbit Noir then show up to give Alix the Dog Miraculous meaning Sabrina got replaced again. She also says that once Alix gets the Rabbit Miraculous back, she will have to leave her family and friends behind to watch over the timeline (meaning she'll probably be absent again for most of the season). Alim is actually okay with this because future Alix wrote letters for him to not get worried. After a wholesome moment between the father and the daughter that Adrien would probably not get to experience with his own father, Alix takes the Dog Miraculous and transforms into Canigirl.
Tumblr media
And...OH MY GOD I LOVE THIS DESIGN. It's absolutely better than what we got from Miss Hound and Flairmidable. The color scheme is appealing to look at. The cap she is wearing is cute and definitely suits her better than Miss Hound. The mask is also quite adorable and makes her blue eyes pop. And to be honest, Canigirl fits Alix's personality more than Bunnyx.
The three then go inside the Burrow, with Canigirl saying her farewells to her father. Rabbit Noir opens a portal to the past for Canigirl to tag Monarch's Rabbit Miraculous before he himself does. Ladybug leaves the Miraculous box in the burrow as a trap for Monarch. They then go into the frozen Eiffel Tower scene in the Heroes Day timeline discreetly.
While Nathalie is feeding the Kwamis, she advices Gabriel that there is another obvious way to use the Rabbit Miraculous. He can go back in time and prevent Emilie from ever getting sick from using the broken Peacock Miraculous in the first place by giving his past self a flash drive with the information needed to repair it.
Gabriel transforms into Monarch again and plans to travel back to the night he gave Emilie the Peacock Miraculous. Unfortunately, he gets distracted by Ladybug's trap box, because this show's plot armor is as thick as the mantle of the Earth. The only reason he didn't put the flash drive on the picnic blanket is because if he did, then the show would be over then.
Because his IQ is that of a brick, he falls for Ladybug's trap and travels to the Heroes Day timeline, planning to ambush their past selves. Unluckily for him, Canigirl uses Fetch and takes his Rabbit Miraculous, unifying the two Miraculouses she has.
Tumblr media
And just like Rabbit Noir, [Insert Alix Dog+Rabbit Unification Name]'s design is also cute and adorable. Though I kinda wish they gave her more fluff. Petition To Give Rabbit Miraculous Holders Fluffier Costumes.
Monarch uses Fetch as well but Alix uses Burrow to escape. And even though he doesn't have time travelling powers now, Rabbit Noir and Ladybug still do nothing! They don't even try to fight him nor take any of the Miraculouses. They literally just... left him there, unaware of the major things that he could do in the past (yes, they brought him back but that still doesn't explain why they would even abandon him there in the first place).
Ladybug uses Miraculous Ladybug, healing Future Alix. Rabbit Noir gives to Future Alix her Future Rabbit Miraculous while Present Alix plans of giving Ladybug back the Present Rabbit Miraculous. But, Ladybug tells Present Alix that it's her time. She then transforms into Bunnyx.
Tumblr media
Like Future Bunnyx, Present Bunnyx looks great. I like that her reddish pink hair contrasts well with the arctic blue and white costume. Although like I said, Canigirl definitely fits her personality more than Bunnyx. Also lack of fluff :(
Present Bunnyx gives Past Fu back the Dog Miraculous and takes a selfie with him while Future Bunnyx brings Monarch back to the present. Ladybug ties him up again and guess what? They fail to get the Miraculouses and Monarch escapes again through Wind Dragon. Ladybug is obviously unhappy that they managed to let Monarch escape again. Cat Noir reassures Ladybug by saying that they still got the Rabbit Miraculous but she says at what cost.
Look, just how incompetent can you two be? You literally have Monarch at your mercy and still manage to screw things up? For the love of God, AT NO COST! SINCE HE SAYS THAT YOU GOT THE RABBIT NOW, WHAT'S STOPPING YOU TWO FROM GOING BACK IN TIME TO PREVENT ALL OF THIS?! ARE THE WRITERS REALLY TRYING TO DIG UP THE DEEPEST PLOTHOLE IN HISTORY?!?!
And as usual, Garbage- I mean Gabriel talks to his wife again about how he lost and how it's all Ladybug's fault even though the both of them are so incompetent with what they're doing. Even Nathalie is fed up with his bullshit and tells him that he is crazy and that he doesn't deserve her help.
Tumblr media
YEAH TELL HIM NATHALIE! You can’t imagine the huge smile I had on my face watching this scene unfold. Hearing Nathalie chewing out Gabriel for his incompetence is unironically one of the best parts of the episode for me.
Admittedly, once the satisfaction went away, I did have some major problems with this scene. While Nathalie has every right to call Gabriel out, it's also pretty hypocritical of her since she is just as bad as him. The whole reason she can't even walk properly is because she kept on using the broken Peacock Miraculous even though Gabriel forbade her to. She's one of the people who's willing to help him without question. She really isn't the bigger person between the both of them. But I just hope that unlike Chloé's "redemption" arc and Adrien's promise to let go of his feelings for Ladybug, this moment sticks.
Lila notices Nathalie in a sickly state and approaches her. She just offers to help Nathalie back to her seat, and that’s probably her only appearance in this episode. So much for the lack of Lila screentime last season.
After that, the episode ends, with Gabriel screaming like a baby.
If you ask me, this episode was just okay. I mean, it is good as a season premiere since it offers a lot of action and Alix definitely got the well-deserved screentime she didn't get last season, but the amount of plotholes and plot armor that Monarch has took it lower for me. As much as the execution was horrendous, removing the Rabbit Miraculous from the plot first was definitely a good idea to avoid the future plot contrivances that it can cause. Ladynoir also got some development in this episode and Ladybug is on the start of trusting Cat Noir more, which is good. Nathalie, as much hypocritical her scene was, definitely offers more opportunities in the future now that she isn't onboard with Gabriel's nonsense. RIP to the Gabenath fandom though.
The biggest problem of the episode for me was how Ladybug and Cat Noir were constantly dumbed down so that Monarch couldn't lose in this episode. Even Monarch was dumbed down (bro you literally have the Rooster Miraculous on you) so that he couldn't win either. If this is how things go this season, then it'll probably end with a bitter taste. I just hope the writers resort to better writing and not... create more plotholes and plot armor. This is literally the last season of the current storyline, so they better step up their game!
The time travel shenanigans was also a big part of why the episode is lower for me. A race around time is a good concept but the fact that Monarch and Ladybug didn't even consider to use their respective Rabbit Miraculouses to prevent the events that put them where they are now irks me.
Also, why the heck is Félix not mentioned in this episode, especially since he's the one who caused all of this? And why is Nathalie and Lila still on the train even though Gabriel cancelled the commercial? I guess those questions would be answered in the next episode. I just hope so.
So yeah, I'll rate Evolution about 6.5/10. It's definitely not perfect and has its flaws, but it's not a bad season premiere. I just hope that they improve their writing this season, especially for Garbage- I mean Gabriel Agreste.

Yall I’m new to stanning football. I came here straight from the world cup and I’m not gonna lie this shit is beating my ass. Is it always in the mud like this? I chose psg because that seems like the best option because they got messi, neymar, and mbappe who are literally the three players that caught my attention during the tournament! Yall I really thought this was going to be fun. 😭 What’s going on? Why does everything feel so confused and chaotic (not in a good energetic way, more like headless chicken running kind of way) but also weirdly sluggish and slow? Yall I don’t understandddddddd. It’s like the team has four different personalities all at once? It’s so… unpleasing to watch yall it was not like this during the world cup. 😭
I hope they get better. But I’ve been reading the psg girlies on tumble and … it seems like nobody has hope it’s going to get better? I mean surely it will? Right? I feel like everybody has given up on the season and I’m scared. 😭 I hope Kylian feels better soon. I was thinking maybe we can do trades with other teams but apparently business hours is already closed and will next open in the summer? The fuck? But we dont got anyone? And almost everyone is dropping like flies? What happens if the big guy on the fishnet gets a flue or just gets sick in general? We just dont get anyone?
Also the coach looks like he should be in a martin scorsese film with robert de niro and joe pesci. The fuck is he doing on the pitch tho?
We need to bounce back QUICK! We need positive vibes! Energy! We need God to be honest but I feel like I’ve spent all my credit with him praying for Messi to win the world cup. My account with God is all maxed out. Yall. I cant sleep until I figure this shit out. Somebody do something!
Do we have a secret weapon? Like what is the plan here? What is plan b? Oh my goddddd. This parasocial relationship is with these players really do beating my ass. I’m out here worried for them!
hi anon! wow this is a doozy. ill try to break down my response but idk if it'll do ur rant justice LOL
1) Welcome newcomer! as u may have seen in the world cup, if there's one thing someone should tell u before u enter the football world is that ABSOLUTELY NOTHING is guaranteed. you could have the strongest defense, the best goalie, gamemaster midfielders, and strikers w amazing finishes and you'll still lose to an underdog team who has better teamwork and chemistry. or just one player decides "uk what? imma earn my paycheck today" and demolishes the other team.
2) psg is a joke. ill tell u right now. lose any and all expectations. we clown on them bc even if they played shit before but at least they were winning. now they're playing shit and LOSING! and thats the problem we have. the 4 personalities at once thing is absolutely correct. you have 3 well seasoned forwards who are used to being the "it" strikers of their team. on top of that we have NO MIDFIELD AND A SHIT MANAGER WHO CANT GET A TACTIC OUT OF HIS ASS EVEN IF I SHOVED IT IN THERE MYSELF!!!... sorry i lost it a bit there lol.
3) as yes transfer window closing. see that's also Galtier and that fuckin toad incharge of players who DIDN'T MAKE A TRANSFER UNTIL LAST MINUTE AND LET CHELSEA FUCK THEM OVER. and sorry to burst ur bubble but there's a chance key players might leave/retire by that summer so lets hope they promise them to bring in an actual proper midfield by then.
4) So another thing to consider if one of the reasons u chose psg was for messi... i wouldnt. This isn't his club. this is his retirement club. ramos too actually. they've finished their careers. they actually have absolutely nothing to lose LOL. messi's heart will always be in barcelona. as in he literally knows nothing else except barça
Tumblr media
5) injuries suck. but they are a part of the game. if u play any contact sport u know the feeling. even non-contcact sports there r still big injuries. everyone is hoping kylian gets better soon. he needs all the rest he can get 🤲🏼.
6) Our secret weapon? BHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! prayers i guess. nah im kidding. but there really isn't any secret weapon unless u count galtier deciding to pick up a tactic book? or leaving and getting replaced by pep or zidane. to use ur weapon analogy we have a dented shield that still works (defense) and a bunch of bullets (forwards) but no gun (midfield) to load them.
7) ik u were joking about that last part but the parasocial relationship?? do ur absolute best to minimize it. like as someone who's been watching the beautiful game since i was a kid its okay and fun to joke about it and worry/send love to ur faves but u have to remember: those are grown ass men getting payed hundreds of millions to kick a ball around while those in their cities that pay to watch them are in heating/housing crisis. so when we eat the rich ill be cutting them up w tears uk?
hope this helped LOL.

Any Duchess Will Do. By Tessa Dare. Avon, 2013.
Rating: 4/5 stars
Genre: historical romance
Part of a Series? Yes, Spindle Cove #4
Summary: Griffin York, the Duke of Halford, has no desire to wed this season—or any season—but his diabolical mother abducts him to “Spinster Cove” and insists he select a bride from the ladies in residence. Griff decides to teach her a lesson that will end the marriage debate forever. He chooses the serving girl.
Overworked and struggling, Pauline Simms doesn’t dream about dukes. All she wants is to hang up her barmaid apron and open a bookshop. That dream becomes a possibility when an arrogant, sinfully attractive duke offers her a small fortune for a week’s employment. Her duties are simple: submit to his mother’s “duchess training"... and fail miserably.
But in London, Pauline isn’t a miserable failure. She’s a brave, quick-witted, beguiling failure—a woman who ignites Griff’s desire and soothes the darkness in his soul. Keeping Pauline by his side won’t be easy. Even if Society could accept a serving girl duchess—can a roguish duke convince a serving girl to trust him with her heart?
***Full review below.***
Content Warnings: graphic sexual content, physical abuse, ableism, child death
Overview: I'm continuing on with Tessa Dare's Spindle Cove series. They're fun. What else is there to say?
Writing: Dare's prose in this book is about the same as in the previous installments. It's quick, clear, balanced, and humorous in ways that I find genuinely charming. I don't have anything to add that I haven't already said in previous reviews.
Plot: The non-romance plot of this book follows Griffin York, the Duke of Halford ("Griff"), as he is pressured by his mother to marry in order to produce an heir. After putting off marriage for so long, the Duchess demands that Griff choose a bride - any bride - from among the residents of Spindle Cove. To annoy her, Griff chooses Pauline Simms, a poor woman working at a server at the local tavern/tea shop. Refusing to buckle, the Duchess and her son make a bargain: after one week, the Duchess will make Pauline the toast of the ton. If she fails, she will never pressure Griff to marry again.
Pauline, for her part, longs to save up enough money to open her own circulating library in Spindle Cove and escape her abusive father. She and Griff also strike a secret bargain: if she thwarts the Duchess's efforts, after one week, Griff will give Pauline one thousand pounds. The plan seems to work at first, but over time, it is apparent that Pauline is just too clever and charming, and Griff finds himself falling for her.
I had a fun experience reading this story because of the competing interests at play. The Duchess wanted the family line to continue, Griff didn't, and Pauline is stuck in the middle with her own ambitions that have nothing to do with London Society. All those interests meant that for any given scene, I was eager to find out whose efforts would pay off and how it riled everyone up for the next challenge.
The only thing I didn't quite like was the end, and I only disliked it because it felt rushed. I think Dare has a tendency (at least in this series) to wrap things up too quickly, and given all the heavy emotions, I would have liked to see the last few chapters given the same delicate treatment as the first or middle few.
Romance: The romance between Pauline and Griff was sweet and charming, and I loved that it included silly mishaps, points of self-realization, and emotional intimacy. A large part of their growth as a couple involves trusting each other with their hearts and overcoming class barriers, and I think these were both done quite well. There were some moments when I thought Dare could have explored class more, but given the genre of this book, I think the end result is just fine.
Characters: Pauline, our heroine, is sympathetic in that she's a working class woman with a deep love for her sister. I admired her ambition to own her own business and to turn her love of books into a service she can provide, and I liked that she didn't compromise on her values to get there. Pauline's memory was also an interesting character quirk, and I wish it had been used a bit more in the plot, but as it stands, I think Dare did a good job showing Pauline's evolution from ignored serving girl to confident, open-hearted businesswoman.
Griff, our hero, was intriguing in that he showed up in previous books as a depraved libertine but is characterized in this book as something of a recluse. We get a clue early on that something has happened to change his behavior, and most of his arc is about opening up to other people and learning to share that burden. The only times I didn't like him were when he was being violent; I'm a little over romance heroes showing their emotions through violence, and though Griff only has one moment like this, I wish it wasn't there.
The Duchess, Griff's mother, at first appeared like she's be something of an antagonist, but it was also quickly apparent that she cared deeply for her son. I loved the relationship she has with Pauline and the little secrets they share, and it was genuinely refreshing to have them be friends and allies rather than opponents.
TL;DR: Any Duchess Will Do is an endearing romance that features competing interests between protagonists, a hero learning to share the burdens of his past, and a heroine with a big heart and admirable ambition. While the ending feels a little rushed and class could have been explored more fully, this book is a fairly light read that is sure to charm readers with its shenanigans.

Okeydoke. CM 16x09 "Memento Mori". What delights and disappointments do you have in store for me...
Spoilers etc etc etc under the cut.
I've been rewatching season 3. It feels like such a different show. I think the impact of the shake up of producers and cast that happened in season 5/6 cannot be overestimated. And of course with this new season they've actively tried to make it a different iteration. But yeah...the creative vision or whatever shifted a lot over its original run.
Anyway.....back to the matter at hand...
oh no...Rossi flashback. :/ oh buddy. ngl hearing Rossi break up like that makes me very sad.
(Emily you look fabulous in your funeral dress)
I do appreciate the time they've given to Rossi & Emily's relationship
also it just makes me uncomfy that Rossi's doing his canvassing all alone. Even the Mormons don't do that.
OH SHIT is going down!
Emily is your blazer sparkly? no no it's like some kinda tufted wool pattern. (Cute)
JJ your hair looks great
Tara you must be right, "it's hard to be a new dad and a psychopath at the same time" (also you look great bb)
OH SNAP he walked right in??!! with a lil smirk??!!
Okay okay okay TARA / REBECCA FLASHBACK. Aw, Tara that look on your gorgeous face. 🥰 I am not intimately familiar with Al-Anon but I can see how Rebecca's history might influence her tendency to go scorched earth/go to extremes in her reactions.
I wish the flashbacks were in color though. The black & white photography is pretty I suppose, but I wanna see their beautiful faces in full color.
Urgency!! Rebecca coming thru!! (in her fire burgundy suit btw)
this Sacramento offer is all she's got?? I know she's under review, whatever that entails, and presumably thus no longer in line for an associate atty general job (is that actually a thing??) but she's... still actively working in the DOJ in Washington DC hence why she's even plausibly (lol) in this room. Why would this Sacramento job be the only option left to her? This does not make sense.
Tara looks so beautiful, GOD. but also too sad.
Ugh back to this bitch (Elias)
This little tete-a-tete w/ Rossi is...intruiging. Ooh twist that knife sir.
LOL the very subtle sound cue/background music they put on Rossi's grin after he says "Almost." God that was perfect. Like the cartoon sparkle on a smile. Like the Schitt's Creek chime.
Wow this guy has plans on plans on cojones. I like him. He's bad news.
Side note: it annoys me that they keep calling Sicarius the "most prolific" killer they've ever seen. Didn't they estimate Frank's body count in the 80s or 90s?
Oh....our favorite asshole Tyler Green. Oh and our other favorite ah Will - here in an official non-husband capacity. Neato.
The question remains....is Tyler Green a bad guy? He's clearly taking PG for a ride, but what that fully means I don't know.
OOooooh big drama betw Tyler & Luke. That stare down!
Does PG see it now? She might.
F U C K. Suspicions (Apparently!) confirmed ! !
Rossi you in danger girl.
this could still be a vigilante type situation...but they're leaning hard on making Green seem sus and at the very least he's an uncontrolled quantity. He's gonna get in the way.
ok another flashback. this one im categorizing as dumb bc it's about Tyler. Honestly I'd rather have an Emily flashback. Even if it's just her like...loading her dishwasher. God, what I wouldn't give.
cute baby tho. Tyler has baby-related ptsd
This angst filled grocery shopping RULES!!!!! Rolling Stones babey!!!
Rossi, stalking people while they are grocery shopping is not nice. I get it, you have a job to do blah blah. But coming up on ladies in the cereal aisle is just annoying as hell.
OH MY GAWD. Rossi talking serial killer with the wife in the CEREAL AISLE?!?!?!!!!! only god above and people I'll never speak to know if this was by design but I am LOSING it over this stupid visual pun.
Sydney! You left your toilet paper! Don't you remember how hard it was to get toilet paper just a few short years ago?!
LMAO Rossi you got played buddy.
It does feel odd given recent episodes that Bailey isn't in the middle of this fray, but I'm so not mad he's not there.
Emily's "yes ma'am" reminds me of her very flat "ma'am" to Strauss in "100". Very different (this one contains no venom), but I just have not been able to get Strauss out of my head while watching Prentiss this season.
ZOMG LUKE & PENELOPE. Pen, why are you oversharing with him???!!!! Oh honey. You really think he's just your friend. Can't talk to Prentiss bc you already fucked that up, can't talk to JJ bc JJ will call you out on your shit, can't talk to Tara bc she's in her own world of hurt... you friend zoned Luke and are about to find Out!
Oh GOd PG! Like... I know you sometimes lack a filter but c'mon. 😬
FUCK Rossi WHAT are you DOING. This man who has been marinating in grief for years is about to lose it all
The only one who we know knows where he is is Tyler Green (awful sentence so sorry)
I'm getting tense
The Two Devolvers
AAAGH I just LOVE when an intense moment goes straight to psoriasis drug commercials!!! Fuck!
Is the Dan & Sheila thing a reference to a real podcast of some sort? Who are Dan and Sheila.
I do like when the show seems to acknowledge the shortcomings of profiling as an endeavor
Rossi rounding out the Brown Jacket Brigade
Oh. Emily.
Oh. GARCIA. Chickens....roosting....etc
i am just dying, Dying for Emily to completely Lose Her Shit. i doubt she will get the opportunity. But I want it.
JJ getting the lay of the land watching Emily's reaction. Tara getting the lay of the land watching Penelope.
I want Rossi to pee in the car, and then say "it's just a rental".
A favor from DC Metro? For when they are in the field in SEATTLE? I know this is just to get Will into the mix but it's annoying.
Garcia! Um, the implication that you think avoidant-attachment style folks are like...better at or predisposed to lying? Fucked up. I think you have not been getting an A+ in therapy (thing that's normal to want, etc...). All this "Penelope has thrived during the pando / been getting so great at self care etc" seems to be revealing itself as a front of sorts. Kinda feels like a third, smaller, devolution.
The Will stans of the world will rejoice - he's on the jet
For the record, I think Emily made a calculated risk/decision to send PG into the field with the rest. Perhaps thinking she would be uniquely situated to convince/keep Tyler out of the way. Meta-wise, it was necessary to then place JJ/Will and Luke/Garcia in the same frame on the jet. I'm sure that was no accident.
Ugh. Do we think Rossi's out? Is he gonna be dead when this is all said and done? I hope not. He's still got lots of grandparenting to do. But he really should fucken retire.
OOOOHHHHH. THE GARVEZ DATE. Again...I wish they gave us these flashbacks in color.
Oh, handholding!!!!!!!!!!!! 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 it's not the specific handholding I wished for, but it's the handholding I absolutely needed!!!!!!
Luke, my man. I love ya. I feel for ya. God. I'm sorry things went this way. Honestly, PG, if you have trouble conversing in a non-dunking way with someone you consider a friend...like maybe I'm being judgmental here but that sounds like a you problem that you might want to figure out babe.
Thinking about Luke compared with Derek. Derek would have pushed back on a statement like that from PG. Luke, bless him, does not push back because he's got more at stake emotionally / is wounded by it. But a statement like that from PG needs pushback, especially if you're trying to redefine the relationship.
I feel so bad for Emily. She has to keep it together but you know she's furious and deeply worried about her kidnapped work wife
Now we've come back around to Rossi's flashback pain. He didn't want to watch his wife be closed up underground. I see.
Zomg. I wonder if they are gonna cliffhanger the season with Rossi still trapped underground.
AAAAAAAAAAAH
I quite enjoyed this episode. I liked the directing, though I would have preferred the flashbacks in color. There were some really nice shots in there. A lot of backstory snippets. I wanna know more about Tara. What prompted her to go to Al-Anon, years after her marriage broke up? Does that have anything to do with the toning down/disappearance of her swagger? As for Garvez - I don't feel the same level of upset over how this has played out, but I think we're headed toward a reveal of Luke's deeper feelings and some kind of reckoning. And while it's not necessarily *fun* to watch Garcia make these choices, I am not convinced this was a completely bad decision storytelling-wise. I know, I'm in the minority there. Let her fuck up! Let her be unlikable, selfish, blind. I guess what would disappoint me the most is if there's no turn in this story, no real consequences or accountability. We'll see.
Favorite scene hands down was the angsty grocery shopping. What can I say, it gave me life.
