Michael on the Late Late Show a few years ago talking about how he was almost in a production of Hedwig and the Angry Inch and I cannot overstate how much I wish this had actually happened...
(Bonus: Completely unintentional reference to the beginning of episode 3 of The Way at the end by James Corden, along with Michael's reaction. The noise I made...)

The Magnus Archives
Season One Notes and Speculation
Main Cast
Spoilers for Season One Below the Break!!!
Martin Blackwood- Helper for Jonathan whom he doesn’t like. Speaks Polish and Jonathan has disdain for his Latin. Claustrophobic. “Blessed relief if you ask me.” Jon about Martin being out with a stomach sickness. Martin comes back in MAG 21, Freefall with squishy squelchy stuff that Jon reacts to with “God- Martin!! What the hell is- what are these things?!” Ran into Jane Prentiss in MAG 22, Colony in which he stays holed up in his house for 13 days as Jane and her parasites kept trying to get in. He is invited to stay in the room Jon sleeps in during late nights post his incident. He feels stuck in the web of the archive. Jon thought he was a ghost in Infestation (MAG 39). He writes poetry and thinks tapes have a sort of lofi charm. It’s why he has the extra recorder. He feels incredibly guilty over leaving Tim and Jonathan in the tunnels, starting to tear up over it after apologizing in Human Remains (MAG 40).
Elias Buchard- The head of the Magnus Institute, doesn’t want Jonathan and crew looking into the Lukas family because they fund the institute. He hates Jonathan more than Martin and thought the parasites were an over reaction in Infestation (MAG 39).
Sasha James - Helper for Jonathan whom he doesn’t mind. Sets off the fire alarm to try and survive the worms. She joined as a practical researcher. Wishes she could’ve quit ages ago. She finds the table with the crazy geometric patterns and then the tape recorder glitches. Infestation (MAG 29). A feminine voice says into it afterwards “I see you.” The scream heard on tape is Jane Prentiss dying as seen in Human Remains (MAG 40).
Jonathan Sims- Head of the Magnus Archives, rather detached. This being said in Colony (MAG 22) he is shown to have started turning over a new leaf as he offers Martin his room in the archives. In Skintight (MAG 28) he shows an improvement in people skills as he treats the statement giver with a bit more respect than Naomi. He is adamant about not becoming another mystery, to make sure his successor knows exactly what happened. Infestation (MAG 39). Feels like he’s being watched when he records real statements. He also used to smoke according to Elias.
Tim Stoker - Helper for Jonathan whom he slowly seems to grow a distaste for, remaking he’s thankful for him being out of the office. He’s into Robert Smirke’s architecture as of A Distortion (MAG 26). Found tunnels in the archives and went crazy with gas to kill the worms in Infestation (MAG 39).
Other Characters
Sebastian Adekoya- Friend of Jared Hopsworth who delivers MAG 17, Bone Turner’s Tale. Died 2006, crushed on the road.
Angela- Witch from MAG 14 Piecemeal who slowly devoured the parts of Lee Rentoul and Paul Noriega through cardboard boxes with severed articles of various body parts
Asag- Fire mythos thing from First Aid
Sarah Baldwin- Victim of the Angler Fish (MAG 1) who later reappears in Skintight (MAG 28) being super quiet and also talking with a shadowy figure. She seems to remove her skin and then pull it tight and staple it quite regularly.
Breekon and Hope- The delivery boys from the end of one of the mags that give Jon a spider web lighter. Anatomy Class (MAG 34).
Antonio Blake- The Dreamer from MAG 11 Dreamer who saw a strange version of London and Gertrude dying in TMA FAKE NAME, KEEP EYES OUT
Edwin Burrowes- Catholic priest from Burnt Out. In Confession (MAG 19) he says a prayer in the house and feels heat. Then he starts to pray for himself and a demonic presence says through him “I am not for you. I am marked.” He proceeds to eat a human at the ushering of some unknown figure in Desecrated Host (MAG 20)
Michael Crew- Returned The Bone Turner’s Tale to Chiswick Library in MAG 17, The Bone Turner’s Tale
Harriet Fairchild- Went skydiving with Simon in MAG 21, Freefall. Said Robert was gone for 15 mins.
Simon Fairchild- First shows up in MAG 21, Freefall and tells Robert to “Enjoy sky blue” before sending him to a weird groundless realm. Robert Kelly is then later ate by the sky.
Raymond Fielding- Housed many people on Hilltop Road and was missing his right hand when he died
Trevor Herbert- Killed vampires for a living and died of lung cancer in the lobby in Vampire Killer (MAG 10). Dead as restated in Taken ill (MAG 36)
Naomi Herne- First ever person to make a statement with Jonathan and survived the Lukas’ in her ep, MAG 13 Alone
Timothy Hodge - Man who slept with Harriet Lee and heard her explode. DEAD AS OF A Distortion (MAG 26) for got turned into hive meat.
Jared Hopsworth- Friend of Sebastian Adekoya who assaults him consistently, first mentioned in MAG 17 The Bone Turner’s Tale. He, for instance, turns over an entire cart of returned books. He takes the book and runs out. He comes back later in the episode with more bones. And apparently more limbs
Mary Keay- Gerry Keay’s mother
Gerard (Gerry) Keay- Burns the Lightner books (seen in Page Turner) and was found covered in eyes and burn marks in MAG 12 First Aid. He puts a stop to the invisible flame.
Moira Kelly- Sees her son Robert Kelly get ate by the sky in MAG 21, Freefall
Robert Kelly- Simon Fairchild tells him to enjoy sky blue and then he gets ate by the sky in MAG 21, Freefall
Melanie King- Ghost hunter who sees Sarah Baldwin do her skin tricks in Skintight (MAG 28).
Jergner Leitner- Book maker and has a library, seen in Page Turner. Reseen in MAG 17 The Bone Turner’s Tale. Actually seen as a man in Old Passages (MAG 35) in which he asks people to dig underground.
Evan Lukas- Fell in love with Naomi Herne and then died.
Nathaniel Lukas- Owns the boating company for the Tundra as of Boatswain’s Call (MAG 33).
Peter Lukas- Captain of the Tundra as seen in Boatswain’s Call (MAG 33).
Agnes Montague- Witch lady with the hand tied around her with a chain, died the same day as the tree getting pulled down and apple melted
Julia Montork- Daughter of Robert Montork and witness of MAG 9- A Father’s Love
Jane Prentiss- Red dress lady from Squirm. She seems to be a hive for parasites and is no longer the actual Jane Prentiss as of Colony (MAG 22). She uses Martin’s phone in that episode to pose as him while trying to Squirm him. She says at the end through his phone, “Keep him. We have had our fun. He will want to see it when the archivists crimson fate arrives.” A statement by her exists somewhere in the archives. Hive (MAG 32) has her explaining how she felt itchy all the time and all the holes throughout her. “You can see it, and log it, and still never understand it.” Presumably she becomes what she is today after sticking her arm into the nest and screaming out in pain. She dies due to Elias making the CO2 go off in Human Remains (MAG 40).
Joseph Rainer - The man who survived the shell blast with Wilfrid in The Piper (MAG 7).
Maxwell Rainer- First appearance is MAG 9 in which he is described as the “defrocked pentecostal leader” who became a cult figure for The People’s Church of the Divine Host
Gertrude Robinson - Former Archivist, died, presumably in The Archives. Oh boy! So, in Burnt Offering (MAG 37) it is revealed her hair and image was used in some twisted altar thingy and a dude who smashes a bottle there has all his things go up in flames.
Lesere Saraki- Nurse from MAG 12 First Aid who feels watched after the incident in the hospital
Mikaele Selesa- First appears in Piecemeal (MAG 14) where he tries to sell something to Norigea. Reappears in Lost and Found (MAG 38) as he sells Andre Ramao a vase.
Michael Shelly- “How would a melody describe itself when asked?” He needs help, likes giggling at Sasha. Says that the hive (Jane Prentiss) is rash. Knew Jon, Tim, and Martin’s names. Shows how to kill the worms in A Distortion (MAG 26).
Robert Smirke- An architect. He worked for Jergner Leitner to build an underground club as seen in Old Passages (MAG 35).
Nathaniel Thorp- Immortal being from Cheating Death (MAG 29)
Places, Concepts, and Organizations
Breekon and Hope Deliveries- Company that takes away the coffin from MAG 2 Do Not Open. Also the same company that gives the church the pale yellow stool in MAG 20, Desecrated Host.
Formula of Sacred Geometry- The intricate patterns we’ve been seeing that Jonathan says there are different schools
Hill Top Road- The place where Burnt Out takes place, had the apple underneath the bleeding tree in the intricate pattern box
The Magnus Institute- Founded 1818, has a series of tunnels under its building and seems to slow the horrors when inside its building.
Open Skydiving- An organization that seems to have never existed. Fairchild’s are connected to it
The People’s Church of the Divine Host- A small cult that grew around the defrocked pentecostal minister, Maxwell Rainer, in London during the late 80’s and mid 90’s
St. Thomas Hospital- Had the fire incident from First Aid and the nurse still feels watched there
Speculation
My inclinations about the horrors having certain types seems to be spot on. You have the Leitner Tomes, Sacred Geometry, Prentiss Parasites, Breekon and Hope distinctless entities, the Hands, Strange Music- even if I’m not spot on you can definitely group some of the ongoings together.
As for characters, Jonathan is slowly becoming a better person as he unlocks the skill empathy by being subjected to horrors himself. I believe the Lukas family will play a big part in the upcoming season as Elias seems to becoming more of a big player and with Elias comes more talk of funding and whatnot. Something I’d like to point out is that the institute is most likely not a good organization as all of the tendrils led to the archives and even Michael seems to hint that the Hive of parasites are right in wanting to destroy it.
Speaking of, Michael himself is then drawn into incredibly questionable territory. He used the attack to rid the archives of his recorded files and taught them how to fight Prentiss. He wants the institute around which just confirms to me that it has to be a rotten group.
As for where the plot goes from here I’m not entirely sure beyond more Lukas and Micheal involvement. We now have the added worries of Sasha and her experience with the Not Sasha voice we heard as well as questions as to who killed Gertrude Robinson as WELL as why she was being used in the horrors rituals.
Now for just my fun thoughts- I adore Martin. I think he’s my favorite character. He has so much thought and empathy put into all he does. Like the dude was running scenario after scenario in his mind to make sure everything would be okay when Jane attacked- and it sort of was because they fended her off and saved Tim. Alexander J Newall also kills his voice acting- I love how timid sounding he is and the delivery of his lines to Jon about being sorry for leaving him behind- AAAGGH it literally tore my heart into bits.
Anyways that’s enough rambling. Stay tuned for my season 2 notes and ideas!

you cannot tell me minerva mcgonagall did not watch draco- son of narcissa black, cousin to sirius black- get sorted first year and think “ah fuck here we go again.” You CANNOT tell me she doesn’t brag about him to snape especially since he’s second in the year. I love that she’s obviously proud of him- especially when he saved harry from falling and said “hat was right”. i genuinely think about that line so often. roughly 85% percent of the harry potter series can be summed up by “hat was right”
oh god, you're tempting me to write a oneshot that's just Minerva's perspective of Draco's Sorting. it would be so good. because yeah, she knows exactly who he is, and as soon as it goes "gryffindor," she's thinking oh god fucking damnit. i didn't get paid enough to raise the first morally stunted under-socialized genius Black heir, and i'm sure as fuck not being paid enough to raise the next one. like, she will, but she's not happy about it. (she is, actually. she's super happy about it. especially since she gets to watch the absolute spit of Lucius Malfoy smirks his way up to the podium stool, sit down, and promptly get it wiped straight off his face. she also gets to see Severus's reaction to all of this. the part of minerva's head that is not flipping over all the furniture in her brain in a silent rage-induced war tantrum wants to kiss the hat full on the mouth.)
and then it WORKS?? and it turns out that this slimy little sonuvabitch falls in with harry FUCKING potter and his crew, and ends up throwing his life on the line MULTIPLE TIMES for his sake, miraculously bullies the Longbottom kid up to snuff in Potions, and spends half of her class muttering and passing notes to her teacher's pet best student, Ms. Granger, a muggle-born, and severus comes into the teacher's lounge like once a week bitching about how he's having to speed up the curriculum because Fucking Malfoy and Goddamn Fucking Granger keep reading ahead, and she gets to gloat for days — oh, i'm sorry, did the class rankings come out this week? hmm? what was that the Nott boy got on his Charms exam? an E, you say? how............. respectable. (and that's before we get started on the Quidditch of it all. when Oliver Wood turns in his 1993 team roster for Head of House approval, the Tower cat doesn't stop purring for days.)
at the end of the day, minerva mcgonagall would never go so far as to describe her relationship to her students as familial — she's far too professional for that. however the students feel about her, she firmly maintains respectful boundaries and urges them to prioritize their own families (knowing that she can't be the mother many of them want.) and yet — and yet — you know what, she sees that little blond bastard take a forty-foot dive for a boy his father would've tried to have killed, right there in front of every gryffindor and slytherin there is, and when she gets close enough to hear his loud whinging about his (self-inflicted) broken arm she swears she hears the ghost of Sirius Black barging into Transfiguration bitching about James Potter's six o'clock quidditch practices.
she writes narcissa malfoy a very long letter that night. she doesn't send it, but she keeps it. just in case.

Apologies for how he couldnt take you guys out of the freak show and all that jazz

James Patrick March
Genuinely shocked
Didnt even know you and him could have kids since well hes a ghost
But 'miracles' happen
Honestly surprisingly happy to have a little you guy's running around the hotel
"if you need anything i will have someone get it for you my love" he says that and also means that he will have someone that can go outside get you stuff as well
"james im pregnant" "i can procreate?" *Nods* "well, i could never be happier dear"
Kai Anderson
Honestly would probably be nice to you for once like with ally
Happy because there is now a 'messiah'
Wants the kid to lead the cult when he dies
Would be so happy i mean did you see him with ally and their damn kid?
He would start being more gently like he would look at your belly and smile putting his big hand on top of it
I mean he would probably even kiss your head and give you cuddles here and there
I mean how could he not? You're holding the next most precious and important thing in his life or probably the kid is his most precious and important thing
"kai dont get mad but im pregnant, and its yours" *a small smile would come across his face* "really? I honor you as the most loyal in this cult you're holding the next messiah"
Peter Maximoff (wanda vision age)
Honestly shocked
Would be so happy tbh
Would be happy because he would have another probably immature kid that was fast like him
Would probably pull you into a hug and kiss you and would hold you like forever while you guys slept every night
Would go into a frenzy about you needing rest and him stealing your favorite snacks a stuff just to make you happy i mean hes a kleptomaniac
"peter im pregnant" "YES omg were gonna have another speedster here"

RANDOM THOUGHTS: Deep Night ep. 7
The preview for this episode showed that a lot of focus will be on Wela (and, therefore, also Khem). I do hope I get some throuple moments as well. I mean, we just got a Seji and Pan kiss last episode (a kiss Ken saw) so there has to be some reaction to that in this one, right? Please, show, don’t disappoint me on this front!
I knew that girl would come back and bite everyone in the ass (not literally, though that would’ve been more fun to watch…).
The way James is standing between Great’s legs… I’m kind of annoyed we’ve only gotten crumbs of these two.
Seriously, iQIYI. Will you ever sub text messages and social media posts/comments? I won’t hold my breath, though…
Well, look at that! More Great and James crumbs! It’s funny how much I love them compared to the minimal crumbs we’ve been getting.
Fuck me! I’m 11 minutes into the episode, and this series is seriously making me fall in love with Seji and Pan’s relationship. So much so, I (of all people!) am questioning the thruple?! Hey, show, don’t fucking do this to me! I want poly! I need poly! Give me what you’ve been promoting, for fuck’s sake!
I don’t want to sway… *rocking back and forth*. I don’t want to sway… I need to calm down…
Btw, Seji is looking so fucking fine.
The way Seji hesitated before he said Pan was his boyfriend when he talked to Ken…
Poor Wela. His life is falling apart just because he wanted a job that paid well enough to pay off his dad’s debt.
At least he has Khem as emotional support.
Lol, people really have nothing better to do than take sneaky photos of others and whisper behind their backs. That’s so tragic…
Well, if that teacher was still Porsche’s daddy in Playboy, he would frequent the Deep Night Club for sure. As the teacher here, though?
Damn, Seji and Ken’s new routine looked like they were rolling around in the hay.
Hey, mom, where’s your girlfriend?
There she is!
Freya saying she’s old is the most bullshit thing I’ve ever heard in this series. It’s even more bullshit than all the verbal diarrhea coming out of Khem’s aunt’s mouth every time she shows up… Freya is anything but old.
All this talk about Pan and Seji eating each other but not doing it is killing me.
Oh, here goes!
Fuck, they were interrupted…
The way Seji stepped in front of Pan and the way Pan is hiding behind Seji! Why is this series doing this to me?!
Why the fuck are they standing on that table or whatever while the others are standing on the floor questioning them about their relationship? That’s so weird.
James is basically suggesting poly without actually suggesting poly. I love this man. He and I are on the same page (even though this episode is giving me whiplash).
OMFG! Not Khem showing Pan a threesome! (Even though it’s pixilated as hell, it looks like a scene from Playboy, doesn’t it? The one with daddy Aob, Puen, and a client.)
Pan said he didn’t want it, but I swear, he’s thinking about it.
Wait a fucking second! Is he actually thinking about it? As in fantasizing about it?!
OMFG! Yes. Here’s Ken too!
I swear, if Pan ends up doing what I kind of joked about him doing, I’ll go to heaven faster than a fucking rocket.
Shirtless Seji!
Shirtless Ken!
Shirtless Pan!
I fucking love that Pan fantasizes about him being the center of this throuple. It could also be how it actually turns out, though.
Thank every higher power that I’m back on the throuple train again!
What? Freya?! I thought they were girlfriends…
Khem taking care of Wela is my favorite Khem. A little emotional support can go a looooong way.
Come on Khem, teach your mom a thing or two about love.
I get Freya, though. If we ignore that she’s only using lame excuses not to be with Meji… Sometimes it’s easy to be accepting of others (like Freya accepting that Khem likes another boy) but not be as accepting of ourselves (like her own feelings for another woman). It’s a good thing Freya had Khem to reassure her that it’s okay to love, no matter who it is.
All three in the throuple seem to be having a lot on their minds. Is the throuple finally throuple-ing? Are we finally getting some real progress here?
Wait, why is Great sitting on the floor and drinking by himself? Is he afraid to tell James what he wants (considering James’ comment earlier in the episode)?
Khem is Ticketmaster in the flesh, handing out tickets for the club’s re-opening.
They are deliberately hiding the throuple from the preview, right? Showing just a little bit would spoil the whole climax, wouldn’t it? Or am I just being delulu enough to actually expect poly in the next episode?
Honestly, the only thing I remember from this episode right now are the throuple moments. The moments between Pan and Seji in the beginning, James and Khem hinting at poly, and then Pan actually fantasizing about it (and getting a boner). They better fucking make it happen in the next episode (since it’s the last one).
It’s a good thing I think my clown car is pretty and smells much better than a Wunderbaum air freshener…

I had an epiphany about the greige luxe aesthetic disk horse and I’m here to share it:
Aesthetics are (mostly) neutral things, provided the aesthetic itself isn’t evoking/promoting an ideology that’s rooted in bigotry and/or harming other people. You’re allowed to like greige luxe, which is what I am personally going to call it from now on. Basically, an aesthetic on its own is not good/evil, it didn’t kill your sensei, etc.
Trends, however? Oh, my friends in Christ! My Dear Honeys and Bunches of Oats! Here’s where it gets fun, because trends imply a group of instances within a period of time. A trend is something you can chart out using a graph to say, “this style is being used X (how much it’s used) over Y (a period of months/years).”
When people gripe about the greige luxe nightmare, it’s because we’ve been experiencing it in a gradual crescendo for well over a decade. When a person gripes about a trend, it isn’t a personal attack against people who happen to genuinely have that personal taste, though I’m sure it can often feel like one.
The problem in this specific case is that greige luxe has a lot of cultural baggage rooted in classism (this aesthetic has been promoted by companies sponsoring overpriced brands--looking at you Magnolia Home) and the diluting (literally) of other styles into being watered down. It’s taken the sleek and often fun pop of midcentury, Scandi, and midcentury modern and even rustic styles and literally neutralized them, sanding off the “rough” edges to make it all more appealing to a wider audience.
Don’t believe me? Check out this article from the Guardian from 2022, which discusses that “... the origin of this great wave of grey goes back through centuries of western culture to a longstanding prejudice against bright colors, as explored by the artist David Batchelor in his 2000 book Chromophobia.” It goes on to explain, “Goethe’s Theory of Colors, published in 1810, maintained that bright colors were suited to children and animals, not sophisticated adults. ...  Still today, words such as ‘lurid’ and ‘garish’ have negative connotations. ‘Color is often represented as feminine, or Oriental, or primitive, or infantile, rather than grown-up and philosophical and serious … and it’s clearly indexed to issues of race, culture, class and gender,’ says Batchelor.”
The article further elaborates on this by comparing the trend to what is associated with “’refined taste’”-- “’...a desire for the muted, the minimal, the sparse...’ Over the past 15 years, ‘what we have seen is a move from the yellow end of the spectrum to the cooler one – from beige, to greige’, amounting to what Fox calls ‘a desaturating effect’ across culture.” (Context: British art historian James Fox, author of The World According to Colour.)
As for the Sims community? Well... I personally associate the greige trend with permapaywallers and even well-known early access (but contraversial) creators following it excessively, leading popular builders to make lots based almost entirely around this greige luxe nightmare. In addition to cultural baggage, it’s now got community baggage heaped on, and I expect that’s what’s led to the visceral reaction we’re seeing. Basically in the Sims community, greige luxe is a whole thing associated now with appropriated styles that have been watered down, commodified, and associated with “upper class refinement”, especially to the detriment of variety and vitality.
The article does also point out that as society has become more and more polarized, the trend has grown, “...[s]ince the mid-2010s especially, people have sought not to be energized by their homes – but soothed.” And yeah, that tracks-- people want calm, want simple. And that’s okay! I myself genuinely like soothing rooms, color schemes that are softer--neutrals and pastels and washed-out rustica with a soft pop of color here and there. Absolutely lovely.
I also think there’s merit to wanting something more uplifting, and the article references things like recent tentative trends toward more color, like interior designs leaning for warmer tones, red dining rooms coming back into vogue, and even Apple’s more colorful line of products: “It suggests that post-pandemic people are prioritising not serenity in their homes, but joy.”
To bring it all back home: Yeah, like what you like. Just please try to understand that trend fatigue and changing times can and will lead people to yearn for something different, and it never hurts to branch out into new palettes and decor styles. While I understand the “mass appeal” of simple neutral colors and sleek styles, my own personal happiness needs a bit more levity, more vitality, lest I feel washed out and uninspired.
(I do recommend reading the article; it isn’t an actual indictment of greige, but rather a discussion illustrating opinions both for and against and the history of the “neutral” trend.)
Further suggested reading: How Are Color Trends Decided? Article from DraperyStreet in 2017, & Color Trend Predictions for 2023, from LuxeSource in 2022, & Greige, the Color That’s Taking Over Pinterest, from Business Insider in 2015.

Sorry I don't know if you have answered this before, but how you think in a3 the reveal of Spi saving Quaritch is gonna go? Also what Spider gonna do when they find out?
Cause i think its either, he's gonna feel so guilty that he just lets anything coming to him happen (wheter it's getting attacked, insulted, yelled at, exiled...), because he feels like he deserves it.
Or, just get angry and lash out ( like all the neglect and shitty things he's been through at some point have to build some sort of resentment or bitterness inside him)
Because how did they not expect that he was gonna get Stockholm Syndrome with him when he's the first adult to actually care about him ( in Quaritch's own twisted way) and saved him not once but twice, when everybody else just left him to die.
And Spider saying something along the lines of: why did Jake get forgiven when he literally help with the destruction of hometree, and I just commited the crime of existing, its not my fault who my parents are, i cant fucking help it, i dont need to be reminded everyday.
This is a hard question, because it's so hard to predict the exact situation that will go down. Will the entire Sully family be there, will he tell just Kiri or Lo'ak, will he tell Jake, will they find out from Quaritch returning- a ton of options that affect the various reactions in a ton of ways.
My best guess, based just on how I think James structures his scripts, I think that they won't find out until the very end of the movie when confronted with actual Quaritch. That's my guess. I think we'll then find out he already told Kiri offscreen, I don't think they'll show us. It gives us a chance for a new antagonist for Jake to work with for the majority of the film in Vaarang, and it gives Quaritch the time to rebuild (and most likely do character building shit that's gonna make more people simp for him annoyingly) until he comes in at the end and does something really unforgivable that solidifies that choice directly in front of Spider. It's your Anakin massacring the tusken raiders moment.
If these were my scripts, that is where I would kill Neteyam, and I would have Quaritch do it. You build on his possible arc from the previous movie and then it's all the more crushing when he does something he can't come back from in the audience's eyes (child killing and animal abuse being those things audiences don't forgive). But we don't have to talk about how if James consulted me I could have made this shit better. We don't have to kidnap children to force EVERY confrontation, James.
Spider's reactions are hard to predict, because Spider has a lot of confidence in himself in the comics. He stands up for himself. We don't see this as much in the movie, and we've all sort of personified him as guilty and self blaming. I tend to lean towards him feeling incredibly guilty for this. I don't see any world at all where he would compare himself to Jake, these are all things that happened before his time that I assume he has only limited knowledge on. The details of Jake's betrayal CAN'T be talked about widely, especially not with Spider. I don't think he would ever think to bring it up. I can see him getting frustrated at some point and talking about how they left him, but not in reaction to this. I see him only feeling guilty for this, and I think they will want to put his position in question in the film before making it clear at the end via his reaction to whatever terrible shit Quaritch does.
Watch me be wildly off base now.

Star Trek TOS S01E12: The Conscience of the King
Tumblr media
Original Thoughts
"It was fine. Not too much to keep me invested compared to others, but still worth a watch. Learning some more Kirk backstory was nice and performed well by William Shatner. The climax and ending are very much tragic. A tyrant caused genocide, then tried to hide and keep that legacy out of his daughter’s touch. But it failed, and that daughter killed the survivors to keep her father from facing retribution. It’s just… sad. They’re both murderers, but clearly loved each other, and the ending where the girl accidentally kills her father is just heartbreaking (even if her reaction dragged a bit too long). Finding out that Kirk survived a freakin’ genocide was also a pretty big reveal. Not the most interesting watch, but still a good one."
(Original Post)
Rewatch Thoughts
I sometimes wonder what was going on in my head back when I did the first watchthrough. I had originally started watching TOS out of pure boredom, so maybe I wasn't giving it as much attention as I should have. I had a feeling that I would enjoy this one far more than the first time... and ho boy was I right~!
This one is... a lot. Like... a looooot. We're dealing with a Shakespearean company, murder, and past genocide. And in the middle of it is Captain James T. Kirk. We find out that he was one of the people who survived said genocide and one of the few witnesses to have seen the man who ordered it. It certainly wasn't a detail about Kirk that I was expecting when I started this show, haha...
This is such an excellent Kirk episode. This is him dealing with a situation that is incredibly personal. One that he thought that he had moved on from until one of the other witnesses involves him and ends up dead. We see Kirk investigating, changing plans and reassigning one of the other witnesses without giving any explanation to Spock or anyone else, and trying to get close to the suspect's daughter Lenore (who is 19... ugh, at least she's of legal age this time...) to find out more. This is Kirk at some of his most methodical. He is a man on a mission, and the looming question throughout is if Kirk is doing this for justice? Or is it out of vengeance? A question that even he doesn't know the answer to.
This won't be the last time we see this kind of personal conflict pop up with Kirk. Obsession next season will do something similar. But this one is much more... real, for lack of a better word. He's composed for the most part, but you can tell that what happened on Tarsus still haunts Kirk. How when presented with the fact that this dictator may be alive, he doesn't want to believe it at first, but the more he looks into it the more he has to do something. He even snaps at Spock, who has realized what's going on and points out his irrational behavior, for getting involved in his personal business despite how it's affecting the ship, and it's thus Spock's job to pry. Even at the end when he stops Riley from killing Kodos, he also makes no move to save him when Lenore accidentally kills her own father. Say what you want about William Shatner as a person and as an actor, but he did a phenomenal job as Kirk here. It's one of his best performances.
Kodos himself is complicated. I don't think anyone will argue that he's a horrible person. He didn't get the name 'Kodos the Executioner' for nothing. You can argue that he was put in a difficult situation with deciding who on Tarsus got food and who didn't... but the fact that he did it based off eugenics theories causes it to not hold water. And regardless, he killed thousands, caused immense trauma for countless others, and was so much of a coward that he faked his death and started over. A chance that none of his victims had. Twenty years later he's a shell of a man, forever haunted by what he did and the constant threat of being discovered. You know what? Good. He brought all of this onto himself, and him evading justice for so long in and of itself is terrible. And the one person he tried to shield from his horrible legacy? Went insane, murdered, and caused his own death. It's sad in a away, even pitiful. But more because of those that Kodos affected, not for Kodos himself.
And Lenore... oh God Lenore. The girl was born after the Tarsus massacre, but still ended up in her father's bloody legacy. A legacy that even he wanted to keep her out of, probably the only decency he's ever shown. But not only did he fail, but she chose to murder the people her father ruined the lives of to save him. Kirk and Riley are the only ones who survived, and that was just barely. It's clear when she confesses that she's not quite mentally stable, and she loses it completely, living in her own world where her father is able to continue with his performances. There's no justifying what she did, but it's just unfortunate to see this girl ruin her own life as she did. An utter tragedy.
Then we have Spock and McCoy. Ah, we're in that part of S1 where we start getting far more with them, and their scenes are a delight. When alarmed about Kirk's bizarre choices, who does Spock go to? McCoy. Mind you, McCoy doesn't take it seriously at first, but it's still nice to see the two talk about Kirk matters. Then as Spock uncovers more and shares it with McCoy, the latter tries to deny it... but it's clear that he realizes exactly what Spock is. And even despite that, when Kirk snaps at Spock, McCoy outright tells him that it's Spock's job. We're gonna be seeing some more tension rise between the two, especially since Galileo Seven is the next episode, but it's still nice to see McCoy defend Spock.
They're both concerned about what Kirk is doing, though ultimately McCoy has to deal with Riley while he's recovering and Spock actually helps Kirk with identifying Kodos. McCoy's also worried about Kirk's mental state and what his actual motive is. Justice or vengeance? Kirk himself has no answer... and he never does reach an answer, I don't think. He didn't get to. I don't know what's worse, finding out that the tyrant who caused you and others so much torment was alive, or watching them die and not being able to see them get either justice or get your own vengeance. He can't even feel glad that Lenore is stopped, since she both lost her mind, and he grew to at least like her despite using her. You get nothing. All that Kirk can do is have Lenore placed in proper care and go on with the knowledge that he's seen Kodos die before his eyes, but never truly have closure. Even as McCoy tries to talk to him at the end, he just stays in Captain Mode and gives orders to continue on. It says all that you need to know.
Like I said, there's a lot here. This episode is a tragedy, full stop. I don't know enough about Shakespeare to read into any of that, but it certainly feels like a Shakespearean tragedy. It's an excellent episode, and I can't believe that I thought it wasn't much of a watch the first time. There is SO MUCH to read into with Kirk, this tidbit of his history, about Kodos and Lenore, and just how horrible and senseless it all feels. So many lives ruined by one man, including his own flesh and blood, despite trying to prevent it. At least he's dead now, for all that's worth.

AHEM. Spoilers below for Harry Potter book 7 and Artemis Fowl book 8. You have been warned.

-
Another little warning: This is going to be a bit ramble-y. If someone can put this into words better than I can, please do. I may come back and fix this later, but, knowing me… that’s not likely.
I figured out why the Main Character Death tm thing works for Artemis but not for Harry.
Let’s review the similarities between these two, first.
They both know ahead of time that they are getting into something that has a 99.999% chance of killing them.
They both died as a direct result of something The Big Bad did.
They both came back to life as a direct result of something Big Smart Genius Person did.
They both feel that they have no other choice.
(Before we really get into this, I would like to note that I am using both the HP books and movies for this. Since the author worked so closely with the movies, I feel that they are still a viable source of HP lore. I will not, however, be using the AF movie. It is a piece of hot dumpster garbage and I will not be swayed on that.)
So. Why does this Main Character Death tm thing work for Artemis, but not Harry?
For Harry, I always felt that the sacrifice fell flat. He wakes up on the very next page in that weird afterlife-spirity realm with Dumbledore. We KNOW that Wizard Afterlife exists by this. Dumbledore himself confirms it, or at least attempts to. (“Of course it’s all happening in your head, Harry, but why does that mean it’s not real?” yada yada yada) Harry will end up there if he dies. Also, what does he stand to lose by dying? Sure, he loses Ron, Hermione, and all of his friends, but he gains his family back. Even though the Resurrection Stone was likely a sham, we can see by Harry’s reaction that he is genuinely looking forward to seeing James and Lily and Sirius and Remus again.
There are no stakes. Harry wakes back up in the Forbidden Forest, secure in the knowledge that he is going to win. And, frankly, the author (may she rest in peace) set us up for a BIG win. If you’ve been paying attention for the last seven books, you know that Harry’s got this in the bag. It’s obvious from the first chapter. He beats Voldemort as a baby. Why should he NOT survive the Killing Curse a second time?
The other part of Harry’s story that is different from Artemis’s is that he has the knowledge that he is 100% walking into a death trap. He even says (at least in the movie) “I am ready to die”. This is his purpose. He’s fulfilling his last act as The Boy Who Lived. His story is complete, or it would have been had he actually died. The world would truly have been better off with Harry dead, and Harry would have been better for it.
In fact, all of Hogwarts believes he is dead. Neville’s rousing speech in the movie is proof of that.
-
The reason this works for Artemis is that there are still stakes in play. Harry waltzes up to Voldy and basically puts his own head on the chopping block, knowing that it will give the good guys the win they need. We as readers know that he is probably going to live, based on what we know about Harry and the author’s penchant for not killing off Really Important Characters. AND even if he dies, he returns to his family. It’s honestly his best-case scenario at this point.
There are no stakes for Harry.
-
Artemis, however, still has stakes. He’s just barely gotten to live a normal life with his parents and brothers. He has formed a good friendship with Holly and Butler, and he still has so much left to do. (We see this in Atlantis Complex. He has the knowledge, resources, and genius to straight-up fix global warming.) The world would be worse off without Artemis Fowl.
And then he dies.
-
What’s worse is that he has hope.
Harry walks in thinking there’s no way he can walk away from the Killing Curse a second time. He has accepted his death, putting no failsafes in place just in case he may have the option to come back. Artemis walks in thinking that his human DNA could overpower the tiny bit of fairy DNA. He has hope. It’s a slim hope, but he has it. He puts failsafes in place, just in case something does go horribly wrong, in the form of a kiss on Holly’s forehead and keeping the chrysalis operational, as well as a living will. He has accepted the fact that he certainly could die, but he says it himself, “I always thought there would be time for goodbyes.” He’s not ready.
After he seals that will, he thinks, “No going back now.” If anything, he feels trapped in his fate, while Harry accepts his. Directly after that, he nearly throws up. He’s scared as hell. There is, of course, the matter of Artemis’s reaction to Opal’s death: “All this time. All this strife and nobody wins. What a tragedy.” Again, acknowledging the stakes.
He didn’t know what would happen after he put Nopal’s hand in the white handprint. All he knew was that he may die from it, but he didn’t want to. (Yes, he tells Butler not to grab the defibrillator, but Artemis Fowl knows more about magic than most fairies do. He knows he’s screwed. Knowing you’re going to die is not the same as accepting it). There are still stakes in play. He is completely unsure of what he is doing, maybe for the first time in his life.
The other huge difference is that Artemis could still fail. Opal could open the second gate. Harry knows his goal and he knows Voldemort is arrogant enough to go through with killing him. Voldemort is predictable. Opal is… less so.
Finally, Artemis does actually die. There is a six-month period where he is straight-up dead. His parents mourn him. There’s a frickin’ funeral. (Harry has no such period. We know he’s going to come back relatively quickly after he “dies”.)
And yet, his most loyal friend, the man who was like a father to him, doesn’t believe it. Butler doesn’t attend the funeral and he truly believes that Artemis Fowl will come back.
It takes Holly six months to even give Butler that hope, and yet he still clings to nothing. I would wager that Holly believed the same. (e.g. “Yes, well, the barely conceivable is Artemis Fowl’s specialty.) She’s more evidence-driven, however, which makes sense considering she a. got that evidence about a week later and b. kept it to herself and Foaly until she knew they had something to work with. (It was also illegal, to be fair.)
-
Artemis Fowl was not ready to die, AND there were still stakes in play— and that made his death all the more poignant.

An Oddballs rant
Tumblr media
This Toasty image is my reaction when I see the treatment of abused kids in Oddballs
Oddballs has terrible morals for children
I’m saving Toasty for the end of this post because I have so much stuff to say about his arc
first - Max and his parents
Max is already a terrible character
but why is he comfortable with his parents
in episode 1 it’s shown they have abused him and episode 8 shows they won’t hesitate to give him away to a strange lab if he acts feral, like wtf, I hate those 2 (and his sister too)
THAT’S YOUR KID! TREAT HIM LIKE YOUR KID AND PROTECT HIM! WHAT’S WRONG WITH YOU!
Max is also abusive (which I’m going to talk about in the Toasty section)
second - James, Louise and Patrick
As someone who was neglected, I think James’ parents did neglect James (and Louise was also shown to turn her kid into a smart phone despite the fact he was SCREAMING in pain)
Louise doesn’t care about James, the only person close to a parent he has is Mr. Mcfly, HIS TEACHER!
Mr. Mcfly is probably the only character suit to be a parent in this show!
now…the reason why I wrote this…
third - Toasty / Declan
A abused kid portrayed as the VILLAIN?! HUH?!
Why are his abusive fathers (James and Max) A HERO?!?!?! WTF!!!
James is overbearing and strict (and killed his OWN SON!) and tries to justify him throwing his son’s dead body in the trash!
Toasty has been abused and traumatized by James and Max, Max just sees him as an experiment and doesn’t hesitate to make his life a living hell, no wonder why Toasty snapped, BECAUSE MAX AND JAMES ARE ABUSERS!
Max never cared about Toasty, won’t hesitate to kill him (same can be applied to James) and doesn’t care when HIS OWN FUCKING SON DIES! Max should stay the fuck away from kids and never be a parent again! I just want to kick and hit Max, he’s so awful
James did kinda try to care but thanks to the worst character Max, he just wants Toasty for toast (same as Max) and even though he tries to become a better parent, he fails, I hope he doesn’t have the chance to become a father again
Toasty is a victim of abuse and should have been redeemed but nope, they just had to kill him, turn him into a waffle maker and say that he’ll cause destruction again! this isn’t how you write a 13 YEAR OLD TEENAGER WHO HAS BEEN TRAUMATIZED THANKS TO 2 FUCKING IDIOTS
I just wish Toasty had a better arc (and also get away from James and Max)
how about James and Max become the villains and Toasty is a hero who escapes from them and at the end gets adopted by Mr. Mcfly
he’s also isolated from the rest of Dirt, and was never taught morals, which is why I think he went on a rampage, he doesn’t know that what he’s doing is bad, he just thinks he’s doing the right thing, and honestly I just want to give him blankets, hugs and headpats and tell him that it’s not his fault he was abused, and that he deserves better
fuck Max, James, Max’s parents, Louise and Patrick, I hope someone kicks them
This is why Oddballs disgusts me, I’m pissed off and the writing of this show feels like a slap in the face.
I’m ending my vent here, sorry for my anger, I just can’t with this show.

Hey 👋
I've seen some recent anti posts where they're like "Dacre did SUCH a good job making us hate Billy" which is... just so wrong lmao.
They act like Dacre didn't put his heart, body, and mind into making Billy a sympathetic character (in contrast to the Duffers wanting another Henry Bowers).
Also... saying Billy is like Bowers is laughable tbh.
Henry targeted each and every kid in the losers club. He didn't have a sister that his father made him watch, like Billy did.
If anything, Bowers is closer to Jason Carver than any other character.
Well, Troy from s1 (and his pal, I think his name was James), too.
But I guess they were forgotten as well *sigh*
I saw someone say that Billy saying "it'll all be over soon" felt r*pish. He was possessed, and that same person also said that he'd told this to Max.
Seems to be a common theme in which some antis haven't actually watched the show.
Some die hard Steve fans who are antis, have even told me they either haven't watched s1, or they just straight up ignore s1 Steve.
As a survivor myself, I really wish antis would stop throwing around words like r*pe and abuse.
When they mention abuse, all they ever mention is Billy being the abuser. They don't talk about Neil, they don't talk about Lonnie, and they don't talk about Brenner (or Vecna).
Another thing I've noticed is that outside of our corner, the only other time this fandom mentions abuse is really just to further prove that a certain ship is canon.
Hey 👋🏻
It is funny, because Dacre has been very vocal about Billy having “flaws” but not being inherently bad or evil. He advocates so hard for imperfect victims, which is what I love about him. Billy would be nothing without Dacre, and I wish more actors had the guts to fight for better writing lol. The Duffers keep making shallow references to Stephen King’s work, and it makes me really wonder if they understood any of the major themes in his books. Granted, King was doing a lot of drugs when he wrote IT, but the story is still solidly inspired by real homophobic and racist violence in a small town as well as the general disregard for children and their safety. Stranger Things is based on conspiracy theories and government experimentation on people. Why they act like these two medias are comparable or need the same kinds of antagonists is just weird to me.
Henry Bowers was abused, too. Like, his father was a racist cop who antagonized Mike’s family for years and he was also violent towards his own son. Obviously, that had an impact on Henry who developed antisocial behavior. On the very surface, that seems similar to Billy. However, there is a big difference between them in terms of agency and the degree of harm. Billy’s violence was mostly reactive. There was a clear trigger (usually his dad). Henry sought out his victims to antagonize and he was very much addicted to the violence. IT was able to weaponize Henry because Henry wanted that power. He ended up killing his father without remorse. In order for the Mindflayer to weaponize Billy, it had to take over his mind and his body completely leaving Billy with little to no agency. Billy was consumed by guilt over what the Mindflayer made him do. His personality and reaction to trauma is nothing like Henry Bowers.
Henry is representative of the fear and hate prevalent in his small town, which is similar to Jason’s role last season in that regard. Their respective roles expose the prejudices of their communities. Billy’s role didn’t really do that. I don’t think the Duffers really thought about his purpose beyond being a “human antagonist” and a source of conflict for Max and Lucas (which…why was this necessary if they were never going to address it again?). There are obviously bigger bads whose entire shtick is Remorseless Abuser, and I’ve said before that this show *could* be about systematic abuse and fighting against it (including government/institutional abuse) but the Duffers hate survivors too much to explore that with any authenticity. So, we end up having to do that for them. This show and its fandom at large really are so shallow. All spectacle and trauma as decoration without critical thought.

Thoughts about ROTB
I expected an action blockbuster and I got an action blockbuster. I am neither dissapointed nor pleasantly surprised. It's not something I would have bothered to watch much less drag my friends if it weren't Transformers, but under those expectations, it's a perfectly enjoyable movie.
Well, let's talk about what I care about most: Optimus. I was expecting him to be angry and jaded from the trailers and he was. I do kinda like that since he was given a reason to and he became his more gentle self by the end. I mean people looked at the camera to explain his deal which is eeeh, but I don't expect subtle characterization from these thigns, so it's fine. At least he was given something compared to mostly everyone else who didn't get much in terms of character so I can't complain. I do like that he blames himself for everything and externalizes that, reminds me of IDW1. What was a bit jarring for me is his disregard for humans, I don't mind an OP that's violent or angry, but an OP that doesn't care for all life is eeeeh? Well, I guess they needed to give him an arc and he gets over it, he was having a rough time. I liked him pleading to Noah instead of blasting him. Also him being like "I'm going to do extreme acts on violence on Scourge" due to him killing Bee. When he rips off Scourge's head spine included that was sexy. His seriousness was effectively used for comedy so that was nice. I feel I still would have liked something different but eh, what did I expect, really. It's fine.
Noah was good too, again no subtle characterization here, but he wasn't an annoying protagonist or anything. He was fun to follow and I like how he inmediately volunteers to go look for the transwarp key.
Mirage really was the highlight of the movie, he was so fun. Oh I love him. His interactions with Nova were great. My friends were shipping them.
Primal was nice. So was Elena.
Wish Arcee had gotten more, and I wish Rhinox had gotten actual lines, but ah, the movie barely had time to do all it wanted to do. Sucks because I feel like if we had gotten more of Bee and Optimus, his death and Optimus reaction to it would have been more effective, there really weren't particulary interesting dynamics. But I mean, at least they cared to try to endear you to the characters. I'm told by my friends that this was was better tahn Bayverse and Sam Witwicky. But I feel Bumblebee with its more contained story did better in this regard.
Ironically, even tho I was the one who cares about Transformers and asked my friends to comes, they are the ones who watched the Bay movies while I haven't.
Bee should have stayed dead. I mean, I knew he was coming back because trailer, but he should have stayed dead. It did make me sad that he died and reviving characters feels so cheap to me. Also, it would have confirmed that this isn't the same universe as Bayverse.
Like seriously, what's the status on that, this is very important, how do I tag this movie in my continuity tags???
Nice that they bothered to say the aliens aren't the cause of all the things pre-colonial did. I mean, the bar is on the fucking floor for this sort of thing, but yeah
Friends asked if the Inti Raymi was legit or if this was a James Bond Día de Muertos sort of deal. It seems part of the Inti Raymi celebration takes places in the Sacsayhuamán ruins were the Autobots arrive and were completely empty.
Anyway, I likes the action!! I loved the transformations so much, they were extremely sexy. Friends say that they likes these designs better, but the action wasn't as bombastic as the Bay movies and the CG wasn't as well integrated at times. But honestly it was all good enough for me. I have no complaints. That time Mirage transformerd to turn around while on the car chase, ah, so good. I really would watch this again just to see the robots move.
I.... was not expecting G. I. Joe

Shovelwarewolf Season 2 Review
Shovelwarewolf Season 2 Electric boogaloo, or the season where stuff finally goes down. I love that the story and production value jump in quality with each other in this season.
Sonic 06: Great episode to open with, we meet Susan (who definitely knows more than they're letting on), a cool season theme, acknowledgement (however brief) of the whole arm thing, and an Escape From the City parody, what's not to love.
Goldeneye: Solid episode, I think it has some of SWW's best one liners (Hell's Angels, The Mafia, GAMESTOP!). I learned to never insult Judy Dench, and that I should probably watch a James Bond movie.
Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Another fine episode, Ivan mimicking the glitch was pretty funny. I don't have a whole lot to say about this episode so I'll just write here that Ivan and Susan have a great banter, and that Susan was just a great addition to begin with, but I'll get to that later. Oh and Test Your Patience was a good capper on the episode.
Duke Nukem: Just getting this out of the way, this game is pure trash but SWW's reactions are too funny. I also like the character development at the beginning with Ivan and Susan, she really was just the only one who was nice to him. Also I don't know why this occurs to me, but the company described the next game as, "A console with a Zelda game" I just remembered that the Switch came out with Breath of the Wild in the same year as this season, I don't know how that's relevant, I just thought it was cool.
Legend of Zelda Wand of Gamelon: Oho what an episode, great gameplay, great story, and great one liners. Susan got to be really cool in this episode, which leads me to believe that she definitely planned this in advance and the therapist bit was an act (she went from running from the room during a transformation to bursting in and rescuing Ivan/SWW without batting an eye in the same day, no way that just happened). I also just love this game's stupid clips and the SWW one liners to go with them: "(Recorder noise) THANKS, (same recorder noise) THANKS...FOR NOTHING" "You've killed me, GOOD. Dang, that's savage, who knew Zelda was such an OG" and "Link gave them to me. GASP! YOU KNOW LINK, LIKE OMG" such good writing. and The Shovelwarewolf's a Running is amazing.
Home Alone: Finally we've reached the finale, pretty great all things considered. First I just want to acknowledge this little scene from Death's narration, "With the help of his therapist" while panning on cool bada** Susan, just funny to me. I'd also like to acknowledge Ivan's TV playing AJ and Nate's weird Spider-Man and Batman Save Christmas Movie, wish they'd finish that someday it looked cool. I love the Home Alone parody for the cool ways it adapts the theme, like the Gamecube trap. Santa just having 180 in terms of character and going on a full fledged villain arc is so hilarious. The game itself is weirdly a cool take on a Home Alone game, like most licensed games at the time would take tons of liberties with the source material but this one was pretty accurate, even if it still sucked. Susan got to be cool again, but at the cost of a very forlorn scene. Oh boy now we get to meet our dude Biffalo Bub, simultaneously RE's most stupid but also most realistically scary villain. That silent clip montage at the end still unsettles me.
Music Rating:
Season 2 Opening: One of the best, that opening bass riff is still so mesmerizing. And the violins, and the soft piano, and the synth, oh so good. This opening feels a lot like a triumphant return for the character.
Season 2 Transformation: Conversely this variation of the transformation doesn't really do it for me. I like the way it closes I guess, but I just don't love it. It also has this weird repeating note that just bores into my skull.
SHOVELWAREWOLF! (Test Your Patience): Pretty good parody, I love the recap of the games he's played so far (except Goldeneye for some reason).
Shovelwarewolf's a-Runnin': Great parody, it introduced me to the Werewolves of London. I love it's use in the show and the vocals.
This is My Safehouse: Great composition for the Home Alone episode. Seriously AJ really flexed his composing powers here. The synth is really great, I love the little incorporation of the transformation theme.
Sleigh-Riding Sleazebag: Not much to say on the song other than the title, and it's use of random Christmas carols, but evil.
Couch Gag: I love this gag, Ivan dubbing over game footage is so funny. Like the last one it makes me think of him being so bored he just does stuff like this to pass the time. This time I'm happy he didn't have one for Wand of Gamelon, I feel like the dialogue in that game stand on its own.
The season is so good. It gave us a great SWW mask, a great character in the form of Susan, and excellent story development. And it only gets better from here. In addition, while others have described it better than me, this season has interesting symbolism in obsession and trauma.

Thoughts on Chain of Thorns
I've had a few days to process now and I think the word to sum up my thoughts on the book is simply underwhelmed
A lot of this has been said already by others, but my own two cents:
I think Cassie should have either 1) taken more time to write or 2) kept her original ending
There was SO much to tie up and I feel like it was done in the most inefficient way possible. She spent half the book resolving Jordelia in the most painfully drawn-out way, then the other half actually defeating Belial.
Not to say it was all bad though, which is most frustrating because that means it was possible for the rushed parts to have been better! Matthew dealing with his alcoholism, Matthew and James getting back in sync, the clever way Lucie and Cordelia got rid of the Cordelia-is-Lilith's-paladin problem - all really good!
But there was just so much I was unhappy with.
1)Too many things felt rushed:
the 'Charles was with Alastair' reveal - I expected something dramatic but Matthew just casually drops "oh I knew about everything" in like the 5th chapter, even though there was no sign of him knowing before? We did get that hilarious scene with the four guys all together, but then later on it's just 'oh and Charles told the Clave everything and it's fine'
Thomastair getting together - they had like 2 conversations and suddenly Alastair was over all of his reservations?? Cassie should've saved some of the tension she used on Jordelia and put it towards Thomastair
Arianna getting together - same as with Thomastair! Ari leaves home, has like one conversation with Anna, and boom they're together
Matthew telling James and then later his parents about what he did - this is a devastating secret! It has separated Matthew from his loved ones for years and driven him to alcoholism!! Yet all we get is a page of him telling James and James giving him a quick reassurance, then a short paragraph about telling Charlotte and Henry and they're just like, 'oh glad we know, we forgive you, also we're having another baby surprise'. Where is the emotion? The catharsis?!?
Lucie and Cordelia becoming parabatai - we just don't get even a paragraph of the ceremony? Just a mention in the last chapter that they're parabatai now
2) Christopher dying
One of my biggest grievances is Christopher's death. I thought maybe I was just biased because he's one of my faves but after looking at other posts, I see it's not just me! It feels like Cassie killed him off solely because she thought 'well someone has to die' - and that's just not a compelling reason! What was the purpose? To show that Tatiana was evil beyond redemption? To show that the stakes were high? We already knew both those things!
Also to my point #1, the reactions to his death felt rushed. We got one short scene with Thomas and one short scene with Anna that were actually emotional, then a moment with Grace. Other than that it was like - 'wow I can't believe Kit is dead, I miss him'. Where's the emotional weight??
3) Then there were the things that just didn't make sense to me
Grace and Jesse. Oh Grace my poor girl. Again, she's one of my faves so I recognize I'm biased but - she deserved so much better, especially from her own freaking brother. This post and this post put it way more eloquently I can.
Cordelia killing Tatiana - I feel like it was mainly to explain the "paladins blade can heal wounds made by it" plot point but - it just didn't make sense?? Literally the second Tatiana has done all the plot-related things she needs to, poof she's taken out of the equation. Also. One of Cordelia's strengths, something we see over and over, is her kindness. I mean, despite being wronged the most besides James by the gracelet, she is one of the kindest to Grace after the fact. I expected some moral crisis for her after killing Tatiana. Yes, it was forced by Lilith and yes, there was a lot happening at the same time - but she still killed someone! And there's no exploration of those feelings!
Lucie and Cordelia's friendship - if they need prompting from a demon in the latter half of a final book to truly reconcile? Then they're NOT besties, I'm sorry. Not that they aren't friends, but I was not convinced they were on the level of friendship that would make them good parabatai
Overall I think my issue is at that too many points, it felt like Cassie ticking off the boxes of events that needed to happen, rather than letting us experience things through the characters.

HOWL YOU ARE KILLING ME HERE.
it’s not fair bc i’m the one emant to cause pain ehre NOT BE THE SUFFERER OF PAIN!!! also the way i was shocked, flabbergasted, bamboozled by the inclusion of tess??? MY HEART.
also idc i’m gonna say it ehre and link it to the part 3 anyway. THE READER AND ELLIE CONFRONTATION ONE IS SO SO GOOD. i’ve seen some people not happy with ellie for her reaction and i just want to say SHE IS VALID!!! READER IS VALID!!!
lets think of everything ellie went through on that journey after leaving jackson. she has been through SO much. and she gets back to jackson, to this actual town, to find the reader there. and the reader is angry? angry for being left in this slice of heaven? for missing out on events that ellie WISHES she could forget? she’s angry and she’s hurting and so is the reader and they’re not understanding each other. they’re not seeing the other’s side of the story.
the first lot of lyrics fit r’s perspective SO WELL in my view too, because to her, ellie hasn’t felt the pain of all those deaths before jackson like she has. especially with tess. it’s not the same. BUT THEN, they also fit so well for ellie, especially in the second half of their journey. I CANT CONTAIN MYSELF WITH THAT SPECIFIC CHOICE. ITS SO INCREDIBLY PERFECT.
