(before I start, placing this disclaimer here at the top since I have friends who don't frequent mcyt and might get confused, but when I talk abt this au I'm specifically talking abt the characters, not the content creators themselves. Anyway)

SO IM GONNA GO AHEAD AND SHARE WHOSE WHO FIRST

Jay- Grian, it made the most sense in my head, but I actually flip flopped on this so many times bc he also works so well as Tim or Alex, but at some point I went "wait it's an au, we can see how the story changes with Grian as the protag" so Grian's the protag now

Tim/Masky- Scar, I'm a transparent desert duo enjoyer and had a similar flip flop with him as I did Grian bc he'd also work as Jay but I was halfway through that drawing and had a similar thought process to the one i had abt Grian

Brian/Hoodie- Jimmy, I wanted to keep the cast focused to life series and evo members and he made the most sense to me lore wise, especially with the idea that in this au he was one of the ones with the earliest exposure to The Watcher (bc I love Canary Curse symbolism)

Alex- This one was the toughest choice bc no matter what a fav is going to loose it. Good thing this based on the Life Series! As much as I Love the idea of Joel and Lizzie as Alex and Amy, I actually went with Martyn. Again, the character is pretty involved with the Watcher Lore so it made the most sense as the character that is arguably most effected by it. (Although for a brief moment I considered Mumbo Jumbo bc,,, how fucking funny would that be)

Jessica- Jessica's gotta be Pearl right? It makes the most sense for it to be Pearl, I don't even need reasoning for this it makes sense

Amy- So who's Amy then? Scott actually! He's not Martyn's boyfriend in this, he's just a really good friend of his who was super involved in the production. Also like in mh, he's Pearl's roommate.

Sarah- Ren. Can't have a life series au featuring desert duo and not have some renchanting. Who else would be one of the leading actors in Martyn's short film?

Seth- Big B, again Evo connection made sense to me, and depending on your own personal theory on who the third person running the totheark account is, both Big B and Ren have interesting implications, even if both their rolls are p minor in this au

With the cast out of the way other questions !!!

It's set in a kind of nebulous time frame that's probably a little closer to present day, but it does still start with a student film project. When asked Why Martyn chose to use tapes he says something about wanting a more authentic feel to the film but in reality he just thought using tapes was a cool idea and doesn't want to admit that it's kind of impractical now.

In this au Scar doesn't smoke, but instead I like the headcannon that he just has boxes of candy/bubblegum cigarettes on him at all times. He'll pull one out, pause, and offer one to someone and when they say no he's just like "Okay, your loss" and watch as they get all confused when he starts unwrapping it asdfghkgkdjhfjsh

Is Grian gay in this au? Whose to say. (Real answer tho, I'm a notorious Jam shipper and while I'm not an active shipper when it comes to hermitcraft or the life series, I don't really mind it so the relationship is left kind of ambiguous)

Marble hornets crew but as random things i do on the daily (you cannot stop me from self projecting)

Tim: wiping his nose with his hand even if his nose isnt runny, makes him look like hes on something but its just a stim or something swear. Also mouthing words/ talking to himself without actually saying anything and it makes people give him weird stares

Alex: Biting his nails/ constantly fidgeting with his mouth. Like biting his lip, flipping his tongue, chewing on a toothpick, running his tongue over his teeth, anything. Hes also a clothing fidgeter and runs his fingers across the seams of his clothes or buttons or something (anything easy to get his hands on)

Jay: Flapping his hands/ shaking them or just holding them out all stiff and awkward when hes overwhelmed or upset. Also flips his pencil an unnecessary amount when he switches from writing to erasing, like turning it once to use the eraser then flipping it 5 times before he actually starts writing

Brian: zoning out hard while eating food (hes so adhd coded to me) and constantly zoning out to the point of complete brain deadness. Also i think hes a finger tapper, will tap his fingertips on anything hes resting his hands on (jay also does this)

Jessica: messing with her hair, constantly twirling a strand or running her fingers through it with seemingly no control. Also runs her thumb across the back of her other hand when shes sitting with her hands clasped together

Seth: Cracks his neck a lot, like, a lot. He also messes with his earlobes a lot. Just grabs them between his pointer and his thumb and messes with it constantly. He also 100% puts his hand under his shirt a lot and its entirely subconscious it just happens

Sarah: constantly readjusting her hair when she puts it up in a ponytail/ claw clip or whatever. Like if one strand feels out of place its the end of the world and give her 3 minutes so she can fix it. Also squeezes her eyes shut really tight randomly, sees those worms you see when you rub your eyes ykwim

Amy: Humming a LOT. Also very fidgety with her shoes, if the tongue of the shoe feels wrong or the back is rubbing her ankle the wrong way she will fix it immediately. You were walking across the street? Damn thats crazy her shoelaces felt slightly uneven so she squatted right then and there and fixed them

I think as a group they all echo off of eachother. Like theyre a real echo chamber and its completely subconscious too. Alex will say a direction then everyone repeats it either as loud or quietly to themselves. Same inflection and tone and everything

They are so neurodivergent. Allofem.

In the Middle (Yandere! Brian Thomas x Reader x Yandere! Tim Wright)

Warnings: Yandere character, yandere behavior, creepy behavior/invasion of personal space, etc.

Anonymous Request: Hiya Devin. Could I request a yandere Tim and Brian from Marble Hornets with a darling that is best friends with Alex please?

“Hey, you two!” You beamed at Tim and Brian as you walked in through the doorway, a skip in your step and a gleam in your eyes. You had just come in from a statistics exam, and while you did not study as thoroughly as you hoped, the test was easier than you had thought. “Have you seen Alex?”

Nerves still thrumming in excitement, you had decided that you wanted to celebrate despite not knowing what your grade was. If you celebrated now, you wouldn’t have to mourn later when you found that your test was marked in red to hell and back. And if it did turn out that you had passed—and with a high score—then you could go out and party all you liked! That meant twice the happiness and twice the fun!

And you knew who you would have liked to hang out with most.

Alex and his girlfriend Amy.

You had met Alex one day while you were walking around the campus without a care in the world. You don’t quite remember why you decided to walk around the hallways, but you glad you did. You happened across a group of students auditioning for a new short film (Marble Hornets, you think it was called) and had ended up watching some of it unfold.

In the midst of the auditions (well, there were only two auditions), you observed how the student filmmaker handled directing and talking to the somewhat shy student who continuously referred back to the script. It was cute and heartwarming, it made you remember that humanity was not always cruel or cold when it mattered most. As soon as the student auditions were over (again, it didn’t take long because… again… only two people came to audition), that’s when you got to know THE Alex Kralie.

You had heard of him in passing. He wasn’t one of the more popular students on campus, but those who frequented the filmography classes and were close to film majors all knew about him. He was an aspiring filmmaker, wide eyed and innocent, and wanting to be as great as Tarantino, Spielberg, or even Hitchcock! Normally, you wouldn’t have thought about talking to him, much less becoming friends, but this was different.

You were intrigued.

The way Alex handled Tim’s more than apparent shyness and worked with Brian’s inherent charm, it was like watching a master at work. Yes, you knew that Alex’s scripts left a lot to be desired and you bore witness to Seth’s and Jay’s attempts to subtly edit the script and the direction before Alex could catch on, but you could not deny that the film—at its core—had its charms.

It would be pretentious, for sure, but what student filmmaker out there didn’t create a movie that wasn’t a little bit pretentious?

Aside from the filmmaking, you also realized that Alex was such a great softy at heart as well! He had a wonderful golden retriever named Rocky, a big fluffy furball who was always eager to leap and kiss you with his long, slobbery tongue. You were charmed when you met the beast, but you were instantly enchanted when you met Amy.

She was beautiful and kind: the entire package that any man could have killed for.

And what better way to realize just how good of a guy Alex was than the quality of his girlfriend? Both of them were great people, creative and mischievous at heart. There were moments when you felt like you were intruding in their personal space, but they always had time for you to hang out and talk about the mundane (school) to the coolest things (Alex’s propensity to make a trainwreck of a film without making too many references to edgy movies) .

You were also great friends with the rest of the group! Sarah always had a quip ready on her lips—she always tried to clean up the scripts so that her “acting” would look more natural but alas. Alex would have none of that.

The cameraman, Seth, was quiet, but he also had a cute dog that liked to play with Rocky whenever he would bring his own little pup along to shoots.

Jay, the script supervisor… was a bit of an oddball. He knew that Alex’s script wasn’t the best thing in the world, but he didn’t try to change it too much even if he technically held more power than most of the other crew members and could have easily convinced Alex to tighten and make things more clear if he so wished. He didn’t look like a pushover, so you could only assume that he saw something worth saving in Alex’s vision… which was weird, to say the least, but nothing too concerning.

And finally…

The two main actors who elevated the production from campy to… somewhat emotional and grounded.

Both Brian and Tim were great friends who must have met a bit before the Marble Hornets’ auditions. While they seemed to look like polar opposites (Tim was reserved and snarky while Brian was all smiles and jokes). The both of them had never really acted before, but you wouldn’t have realized that from the few scenes that you managed to watch over Seth’s shoulder as he edited some of the footage to fit Alex’s picky directions.

They bounced off each other well and often hung out together. In fact, while you rarely saw Alex, it was more likely that you’ve seen Brian on campus. Maybe it was the fact that he was a psychology major, but he was a social butterfly. Every time you happened to go out to a party or ate in the cafeteria, you always saw him hanging around a group of people. No matter what, he was always surrounded with laughter and smiles.

Tim, on the other hand, wasn’t as well liked as his peers. That isn’t to say that he was a horrible person, but compared to Brian he was a wallflower who wilted if more than two people looked his way. Up until a few weeks ago, you wondered how Brian convinced Tim to audition before Alex had told you that it was him who gave him the opportunity.

Again, you were floored by how kind and giving Alex was.

Amy was a lucky girl.

“Alex?” Brian looked up at you, an easygoing smile on his handsome features that was somewhat marred by the strange look in his eyes. Honestly, you didn’t pay too much attention to Brian (you were actually really interested in the behind the scenes crew, much to Alex’s and Seth’s delight), but now that you were here… His eyes seemed a little too hard, like an uncut gem that had yet to be polished to gleam. “What do you need him for?”

Beside Brian, Tim paused in the middle of tuning his guitar, his strong, sturdy fingers resting along the strings. Despite him staring at his lap, you could see that his knuckles were a stark white compared to the rest of his skin. He wasn’t tanned, but he was not as pale as Alex or Brian.

Tension lined Tim’s shoulders—had he stopped breathing for a moment?—before he seemingly forced himself to relax.

“Oh, ummm…” You rocked a little on your heels, not willing to divulge your excitement to them. Yes, you were proud of it, but in front of two up and coming actors like these guys? Telling people you actually trusted like Alex and Amy was something to be expected and encouraged! You loved them dearly and you knew that even if it turned out you failed, they would be the first in line to pick up a tub of your favorite ice cream and make you a filling homemade meal to drown out your sorrows.

But telling Brian and Tim?

Yeah, you knew them, but you didn’t know them.

You felt a little awkward waffling in between your decisions, so you decided not to tell them the full truth. It’s not like you needed to tell them anything.

You just wanted to know where Alex was.

“Not important. I figured he’d be here since I think he said that he wanted to go over some lines with the both of you but since I don’t see him—”

You made as if to leave, but before you could—

Brian hopped up from the couch and strode towards you, that easygoing smile on his face causing your stomach to churn and your palms to sweat. There was something… There was something about this situation and you were just now picking up on it. Before you could make an excuse or make a break for it, one of Brian’s arms draped itself over your shoulders before he began guiding—shoving—you towards the couch.

The thing is, instead of forcing you to sit at a comfortable distance so that you were on one side of the couch, you found yourself squished in between Tim, who was now staring at you with a startled, but satisfied look in his eyes, and Brian, who continued to leave his arms on your shoulders. In between the both of them, you felt yourself grow irritated and antsy—it was much to warm in between them! And it felt like you were suffocating from their presence alone.

Squished as you were, you were keenly aware of how Tim’s thigh was pressed up against yours, while Brian leaned in closer, almost as if he couldn’t get enough of your presence.

“Why leave? Who knows, Alex might drop by…”

“Soon?”

Perhaps it was the hope evident in your tone, but you found that Brian was gripping you tighter now and even Tim looked a little less… meek.

What was going on? Alex had never indicated that either of his actors were people to look out for. In fact, he spoke highly of them. There had been times when he would complain that they were trying to 'sabotage' his work, being too picky and highly critical of the delivery of some of their lines, and so on. For the most part, you tried to stay out of the drama, but even you knew that Alex wasn't a saint either.

Actually, for the past few weeks... He had been acting weird.

A little standoffish. A little cold.

There was something off about him, but you assumed that it was the stress from trying to juggle his passion with a parttime job and school.

The thing was, Alex being weird could be easily explained.

This... Whatever was happening with Tim and Brian could not.

"Stay a little bit."

Tim glanced at you, his southern accent a little thicker than usual. Carefully, he placed his guitar onto the floor, so that all of his attention was focused solely on you. His dark brown eyes bore into yours and you felt your mouth felt dry.

Alex had been acting weird. Erratic.

This...

Whatever Tim and Brian were up to, you wanted no part in it.

"Ha ha ha." You tried wriggling away, even pushing against the couch so that you could gain leverage, but Brian’s arm would not budge and even Tim’s fingers—the same fingers that had been lackadaisical in plucking his guitar strings— were inching closer towards your arm.

You were trapped.

“Guys, this isn’t funny anymore.” Actually, it hadn’t been funny in the first place. “Come on. Alex isn’t here, so I’ll just leave, okay?”

You were facing Brian at that point, foolishly thinking that since he had been the more outspoken of the two would also correlate to him also being the more dangerous one, but you were mistaken. No sooner did you try reasoning with Brian did Tim lean over your shoulder, his warm breath heavy and hot against the sensitive skin of your throat. His scent enveloped, cloying and almost mesmerizing as you tried to lean away from his intrusion. However, that only led to you unconsciously leaning into Brian.

This situation was confusing. Terrifying.

You didn’t want to get violent, to hurt someone you barely knew, but at the same time, you didn’t like where this was heading.

Already, Tim was hugging you from behind, his thick, muscled arms holding you in pace as he nuzzled the area in between your shoulder blades. Meanwhile, Brian simply leaned back and gestured for you to follow suit. Did he seriously expect you to follow him, so that he could… What? Hold you close to his chest? So that you would be sandwiched in between them?

“Stop. I said stop!”

With strength that you either did not know you had or had been reserving for moments of crisis, you ripped yourself away from Tim’s hold and nearly tripped over yourself as you headed towards the door. Behind you, you could hear both of the young men clamber to their feet, their shoes thudding ominously on the floor.

It didn’t matter to you.

You were going to leave.

You were going to talk to Alex and then—

“Oh, hey.” Alex tiredly wiped a hand down his face, his hazel eyes taking in your harried appearance in a mixture of concern and bemusement before his eyes trailed behind you, presumably observing Tim and Brian stopping only a few steps away. “Um…”

Choosing not to wait for Alex’s inquiries, you took hold of his wrist and began dragging him out of the apartment, making sure that the door was shut behind you.

“We… we need to talk. About them.” You continued to haul him by the wrist. “Please.”

And Alex, kind and generous Alex, simply nodded at you. “Alright then. Hit me.”

Marble Moon AU Explained

note: while this is heavily inspired by the movies Europa Report and The Thing, it doesn't follow their events exactly! in other words, having watched either movie will not spoil this AU for you :3 (also if you haven't, please watch both of those movies theyre so good)

I haven't figured out everything for this AU yet so some stuff might get changed later (which is why i'm not posting 100% of what i have written lol) but this is the synopsis:

A manned mission is sent to Jupiter's moon Europa for the first time. The crew of astronauts consists of the full cast of Marble Hornets. In this AU, they're all research scientists, most of them in graduate school or post grad (yes ik a deep space mission irl wouldnt be grad students but. shh gbhfdjbf)

The objective of the mission is to confirm biological readings taken by a rover stationed on the moon. A base of operations was constructed in advance of their arrival by some little robot dudes, and another is currently in construction under the ice, scheduled to be finished a few months into the crew's arrival.

Now before I continue, if you're not familiar with Jupiter's moons, here's some infodumping background info :D

Jupiter has like. over 90 moons discovered atp? but the 4 largest are named the Galilean moons, since they were discovered by Galileo. Europa is one of these moons, and it is theorized to have a global liquid ocean under a thick layer of ice (i say "theorized" but it's pretty much agreed upon by astronomers lol).

for reference, Earth's ocean is about 11 km deep at its deepest point. Europa is 1/4 the size of Earth, with 1/9th of its gravity. its ice shell is 15-25 km thick, and the ocean under it is anywhere from 60-150 km deep!! aka at the very least almost 6 times deeper than Challenger's Deep!! it also likely has hydrothermal vents (think underwater geysers) and produces its own CO2. because its ocean is so deep, the mission is mostly focusing on the ice shell and the top layer of the open ocean, around 4 km.

so!! here's what each character is on the mission for :D

alex: marine xenobiology, invertebrate xenobiology; he proposed the mission, and is using it as his thesis. he's trying to document the first alien life, and is hoping for it to be equivalent to around the cambrian period on Earth.

amy: paleontology, invertebrate paleontology; she and alex are engaged in this AU, and she was the first crew member to join besides Alex. her thesis is trying to find evidence of preserved remains/fossil life in the ice (and on the seafloor if theyre able to reach it eventually)

jay: geophysics, glacial ice and tectonics; he was friends with alex through undergrad and grad school, and joined the mission because alex asked so he could study the tectonics of the ice shell (it behaves kind of similar to how the Earth's crust floats on the mantle!)

brian: medical grad student, specifically studying the effects of low gravity on astronauts; he and alex have been friends since high school. he was asked personally by alex to join the mission, and alex then suggested inviting tim as well mostly to convince brian

seth: botany, aquatic botany and low-light environments; also a general handyman around the base.

sarah: seismology, marine volcanology; she and jay are also collaborating on tectonics research

tim: astrophysics, radio astronomy and deep-space objects; last minute addition. he was friends with brian in undergrad and grad school, and brian convinced him to join the research mission. also helps seth with base repairs sometimes since he worked construction in undergrad and does the observatory repairs/maintenance himself

jessica: astrophysics, meteorology of Galilean moons and Jupiter's magnetic field; she and tim worked for the same professor as research students in grad school so they're pretty good friends

After landing, the first few months of the mission are fairly normal, but the crew is made aware of an incoming magnetic storm from Jupiter. The storm will be strong enough to block radio signals to Europa and within the moon itself for an unknown amount of time. They're told to carry out the mission as best as possible, and a rescue team will be dispatched "as soon as the storm ends" (aka they're left for dead). The team have nothing to really do besides keep working, so they try to keep going. Around this time, the under-ice base is completed, so Alex and Amy move down to it, followed eventually by Brian, Sarah, and Seth. Jay, Tim, and Jessica are left in the original base on the surface, as their research can't be done under the ice.

The storm prevents communication through the ice, and eventually, Jay gets worried about Alex and the others since he hasn't heard from them in a very long time. Alex, being Alex, recorded himself on a tape recorder rather than taking written notes of his findings, so Jay starts to retrace his steps and get more information rather than immediately go to the underwater base and risk walking into a dangerous situation. He'll still have to go down there eventually, and who knows what he'll find? lol

Opened Tumblr and Red White And Royal Blue is number 1 trending. I remember reading through some of your posts on the book, and i think you mentioned there was going to be an adaptation?? And that you were dissapointed with the casting and scared the adaptation will fall short of the substance of the book–or something like that.

I assume the reason it's trending might be because of some recent update about the series or movies production. So what are your thoughts on it?

Aha. Ahahaha. Hahahahahahaha.

Yeah there's a movie that came out last week. It was not just a royal disappointment, but so racist it was like spending two hours being repeatedly slapped in the face.

*rolls up sleeves* This is going to be a long, spoilery Rant. If you liked the movie, don't look under the cut.

The positives: Nicholas Galitzine was perfectly cast as Prince Henry and did his best with what he was given. He and Taylor Zarkar Perez as Alex had great chemistry and were quite unself-conscious in the love scenes. Some of the scenes in the first half (any time Zahra was on screen, the TV interview, the hot and hilarious Red Room scene) were worth the price of admission. Henry explaining the way he negotiated his role as a prince with his sexuality was unexpectedly moving. Amalgamating Secret Service Agents Cash and Amy into a trans woman of colour was a great choice that moved what would have been a side character into the main cast, and Aneesh Seth ate the scenes with Taylor. Rachel Hilson infused her role as Alex's best friend Nora with naturalistic warmth. Major props also to the intimacy co-ordinator. The whole thing with the hands during the sex scene was intimate and erotic.

That said.

I could have made peace with the fact that the characters were obviously much older than the just-out-of-university kids they were in the book. But I wasn't prepared for the character I know and love as Alex to not even be in the movie.

Things that defines my son and personal avatar Alex Claremont-Diaz:

abandonment issues because of parents' divorce

has so much trouble letting people get close to him that his lifelong best friend is his protective, parentified older sister

chaos gremlin

repressed bisexuality

angry intensity and ambition of a burning star

cannot shut up or modulate himself to save his life, puts the offensive in charm offensive

very defensive of his worth as a person of colour in politics and an overachiever because of it

full of swagger and obsessive drive while being five inches away from crashing and burning at all times

Who Alex was in the movie: a laid-back fratty only child with nothing wrong with his life and this one uncharacteristic, inexplicable grudge against this poor white dude.

Said grudge against Henry was made out to be a non-issue that Alex only made into a big deal because he was an immature, petty asshole. Being dismissed by a privileged white person that was handed everything you have to fight for and then being compared to him for years no matter what you did is such a resonant experience for PoC and they just...shat all over it so Henry could make fun of Alex. They even changed what Henry said at their first meeting in the book so that they could make it sound even more ridiculous.

Henry himself was mangled less obviously, mostly because of his actor. But he was made this uwu soft boi out of a Victorian novel who had done nothing wrong in his life ever, instead of an inherently high-strung but hedonistic and fun-loving young guy struggling against institutionalized homophobia and lack of mental health support.

Which, you know, fine. I didn't expect this movie to capture any of the nuances in the book or even accurately portray the characters. I wanted to see two hot guys romance the fuck out of each other and have sexy times.

But producer Greg Berlanti's brand isn't just failing to meet expectations, it's creating new and exciting ways to fuck over women and minorities from wholecloth. Unlike the book, the villain of the movie is not the homophobic, abusive head of the British Royal Family. Nor is it the GOP Presidential candidate who in the book has the boys outed to sabotage Alex's mother's Presidential campaign. Instead, the villain is a queer Latino political journalist motivated by sexual jealousy. This character was created expressly for the movie to replace both Alex's gay best friend from high school as his first same sex encounter and the heroic gay Latino senator who was the key to unravelling the GOP plot in the book.

How do you amalgamate two characters of marginalized identities, one of whom is a heroic figure, and make them the villain instead of the characters that represent cis heteropatriachal white supremacy?? Because as I predicted, the King isnt even a bad guy. He's more a befuddled blustering old dude who even validates the boys' relationship although he's too concerned with appearances to consent to it.

What the fuck. What kind of racist, homophobic, white apologist, spineless CW bullshit is this????

(Also what is with Alex going on about being working class?? Latinos aren't working class by default?? The boy grew up the son of two senators and was captain of the fuckin lacrosse team??? He hasn't been working class a day in his life?? Henry even ribs him about it when he sees Alex's childhood home?? Are they going out of their way to make Alex look stupid??)

Given all of that, plus cutting out the book's principal Latina character (Alex's sister), and refusing to make Alex's mother President Claremont a divorcee with a blended family, an ugly pattern emerges in the treatment of this movie's women and minorities. In the book, Henry's mother is emotionally absent because the death of her husband precipitated a mental health spiral that she finally pulls out of when her son is outed. In the movie, she had left her kids behind after Arthur died and fucked off to Botswana for environmentalism (interesting choice) and never comes back. In the book, Henry's older sister Bea is a leather jacketed rocker rebel child as protective over her brother as a lioness over her cub– a sibling dynamic mirrored in Alex and June's relationship (this book is about parentified older sisters actually). In the movie she was made into his younger sister who had no personality other than flowery dresses and being his girlish confidante. Henry's Nigerian best friend Pez who is canonically a flamboyant, larger-than-life, billionaire genius had like three lines in the movie and might as well have been a cardboard cutout. Alex's best friend and US Second Granddaughter Nora's Jewish identity was completely erased (as was her whole personality). Worse, they cast a non-Jewish Black woman in the role and left her to handle the blowback for it, which is Berlanti's typical M.O. Oh, but the UK prime minister who was in the movie for five seconds was a Black woman! Totally not a token to shield against any accusation of racism and white liberal douchebaggery!

How the fuck do they expect props for "representation" when they erase, minimize and tokenize literally everyone who isn't a cis white guy?? Not even heterosexual rom coms with all-white casts are this hostile to women and non-white people.

On a purely technical level the movie was terrible too. The sets looked cheap and artificial, there was no crowded, high-energy feeling in any of the election scenes. One of the book's pivotal scenes sees Alex literally storming the castle by standing outside Kensington Palace getting drenched in the rain and shouting for Henry to get his ass down there until he's nearly removed by security. In the movie Alex is quietly let in by the staff and wanders into Henry's room inexplicably wet, like he'd been standing under a showerhead, and begins monologuing at Henry. The late night V&A excursion and slow dance in the book, that was a reflection of Henry's wistful, joyful inner world, is vacant, still and aimless in the movie. Alex made his historic public address to the country about their relationship without Henry, before he could even get to him (and the King wants to claim the emails are fake afterwards??). The fucking emails! Were! Missing! Except for like, one. Waterloo vase where?? Why would we even care about the emails being leaked if we never even got to see the intimacy and aching tenderness and open love in them??

They also kept shoehorning in lines from the book into the dialogue so that key lines like "History, huh?" sounded painfully clunky and awkward. Between Taylor's wooden acting, atrocious pacing and the self-conscious script, all the story's most romantic moments landed with a splat. You couldn't feel the emotional stakes in any of it. I deadass stopped watching twice because I was so bored and had to make myself sit through the last part.

(Maybe it's because I'm asexual and my love of smut, great as it, depends heavily on context, but– what was the point of Taylor's gratuitous bare-ass shot? Was that compensation for having kept the guys' crotches five feet apart at all times? What?)

Look, I was ready and willing to give director Matthew Lopez his flowers but he gave us a box of calcified shite. This is why I keep calling representation politics a white supremacist grift. It's a way of making cosmetic, token changes in exchange for retaining the core status quo with all its bigotry and bias while using our own artists and characters as a shield. It makes our talent both vulnerable to and complicit in the narratives spun by white institutions. No amount of female and queer Black and brown people at the helm will serve us justice if the ship belongs to white colonizers.

The best that can be said about the movie is that it makes the book look brilliant by comparison. And the book itself is a half-assed attempt at QPoC representation and generally middling, but draws in pathological fangirls like myself by having a compelling main couple and main cast, beautifully tender love letters, being peak white USAmerican Brand Hopium, and hitting every fanfic trope with a mallet. Being a mediocre white mess that gets a little worse when you look too closely at it is a prerequisite for me to obsess over something.

But if you want to an actual good book with the same appeal, read Alexis Hall's Boyfriend Material and Husband Material. Those are iconic. Hall's books are less "diverse" (how I hate that word) but a lot more honest and queer. (Queerness is fundamentally leftist* motherfuckers. Neoliberal queerness is just white bourgeois resentment at being marginalized).

*Well, Arden St. Ives trilogy isn't, but sometimes you just wanna get fucked by a billionaire in the fun way.

Anyways these are some funny Headcannons for the cast of marble hornets that popped up into my head sooo hope you enjoy them!

Marble Hornets Head Cannons

Timothy Wright/Masky

Tim:

-he has a limp due to masky not wanting to rest when he is injured

-bookworm

-The mom friend

-gives big bear hugs

-trust issues

-the last thing Tim said to Alex as he stabbed him to death was "This is for everything you took away from us" by 'Us' he mean't Jay,Brian,Seth,Jessica,Amy and his alternate split personality Masky along with Brian's split personality Hoodie.

Yes Masky and Tim are two separate people stuck in the same body. Tim is the man being caught up in a crazy situation and Masky being his crazy murder version, thats why Tim forgets everything that happens when Masky is taken control.

Masky:

-usually pretty chill but when he gets angry, he gets violently angry

-throws tantrums sometimes

-sneaky, but not as sneaky as Hoodie
