If you wouldn’t ship a canon gay (mlm) character with a women, then you shouldn’t ship a canon aroace character with ANYONE

I love Rosie's and Alastor's dynamic.
Rosie 100% knows that Alastor is aroace. Romance is her thing. He doesn't have a single trace of it.
But Alastor doesn't because he simply doesn't know that it's a thing.
He thinks that other people are weird about sex and romance. It's such a simple and, in his opinion, dumb weakness. Easy to use for manipulation.
A guy gets rejected in public
Alastor: HA HA HA, sucks to be him I guess. Not that I care!
Rosie: Now now, Alastor. That must have been quite devastating for that gentleman!
Alastor: It's hell, Rosie! Where the violent, sexually deprived brutes live!
Rosie: Naw, that's not the only kind of people who come here! You know I support your lack of interest for the subject of romance, but I don't appreciate making fun of one of the things I am best at!
Alastor: 😀 What?

The Hazbin Hotel fandom’s issue with accepting aromanticism and asexuality
Now that it is officially Aromantic Spectrum Awareness Week, I want to talk about this!
I find that, as an aroace myself, I am constantly grasping at good representation and coming up empty— it usually ends up in one of two ways.
One: the character is portrayed as emotionless, cold, and robotic in nature. It’s the question aromantic and/or asexual people are often asked: “Are you heartless?” The answer is no, of course, but general media makes it out to be the opposite.
Or two: Their lack of attraction is seen as something to “fix” because they “haven’t found the right one yet”, and they end up with a partner as a “happy ending”.
It frustrates me greatly because of how little people actually see aromanticism or asexuality as a true part of the LGBTQIA+ community.
So when I watched Hazbin Hotel, and I found out about Alastor being aroace, I was over the moon. I was on cloud nine. I also saw how his voice actor has looked up the term as an attempt to learn about aroaces, which makes me OVERJOYED?? Amir is truly a blessing, and I love that he’s proud to embody a character that’s part of our community. It’s so beautiful to finally have a proper character, a fan favorite at that, who just so happens to be aroace— and that’s another thing I love about this.
It’s never explicitly stated in the show (though it is stated in interviews), but it’s rather clear when you’re watching, isn’t it? Alastor’s aversion to any sort of sexual advancement, coupled with Rosie’s blatant “I know you’re an ace in the hole” comment sort of spell out his asexuality pretty clearly, as well as what side of the spectrum he falls upon. In addition, his Valentine’s day card was strictly platonic, which caters to his aromantic side. It feels so validating to finally be represented, to finally have a character in media who shares the same lack of interest in romance and sex as I do.
When I entered the fandom to look for more content, I kind of expected to see the same respect for Alastor’s orientation there too. But that… wasn’t the case? I am fully aware that aromanticism and asexuality are both spectrums— of course, aromantic and/or asexual people can enter those kinds of relationships. I’m not denying that and they belong in the community as much as anyone else on the spectrum.
But, the more I see the same line again and again and again, the more it feels like an excuse to just ship what you want.
Usually I don’t mind shipping? I’m often a firm believer in people shipping what they like as long as it’s harmless and they don’t go crazy over it. I also know for a fact that Viv doesn’t have a problem with people shipping her characters. They are fictional, after all.
But in this case, people are ignoring the very thing that makes Alastor a part of the aroace community! People are ignoring his lack of romantic or sexual attraction!
Is this not the same as changing a gay character’s orientation to suit a straight ship? If not, how so? I’m told that we are a part of this community, so why aren’t we being treated like it? Why is it so hard to accept the people on the end of the spectrum who aren’t interested?
Something I’ve been noticing throughout my life is that society has not exactly progressed very much on the idea of accepting asexual or aromantic identities. Maybe we have, a little, since the old days— but hell, people in “the old days”, which in truth wasn’t very long ago, believed that asexuality was a medical condition to be “fixed” by taking the right medication or having sex. That’s a pretty low bar to clear. And on the romance side, you’re seen as a “late bloomer” or “boring” if you don’t express interest. These days, being friends with someone is treated like a gateway to them possibly becoming a lover. Not getting married, not going on dates, not wanting a partner— it’s all treated like a crime when it’s not.
Maybe I’m selfish, or sensitive, or I’m butthurt over nothing, or I’m making it all about me. Maybe I’m gatekeeping or whatever the term is. But please, please, please, I just want an aroace character like me who simply is not interested in sex or romance.
And I want fandom to respect that. I admire the creations that fans make— the art, the animatics, the writing and the character analysis. And I want people to keep creating because creation is indeed a beautiful thing.
But I really would like people to treat aroace identities like they’re important. Like it’s more than just a spectrum to get wiggle room to wrangle in another ship.

You know how I know media literacy is dead?
Because I know that in if in seasons 2 of Hazbin Hotel, Alastor looked at the camera directly and said "I am Aromantic Asexual, I have no attraction to anyone of any gender, sexual or otherwise. I will literally kill you if you try to hit on me." And people will still somehow say that it's not enough evidence.
Like why does Alastor have to say the words with his mouth for ya'll to believe it?? Ya'll are pretty confident that Angel Dust is gay and he's never said it directly (at least from my knowledge). Were none of ya'll taught context clues in school???
We really need to bring back the "why are the curtains blue" discussion...

RANT!!
i hate that the one time aro/ace stuff is being recognized as an orientation is to excuse aro/ace erasure by saying that aroace ppl can still date and what not
like… yeah we can… but the character is clearly repulsed 😭 whenever something is implied for a characters sexuality, everyone immediately says it’s canon unless the implication is that the character is aromantic/ asexual repulsed istg
usually ppl say that talking abt this sorta stuff is pointless because the fandom will just do whatever they want anyway, and you’re right, but that doesn’t mean that i’m not allowed to feel upset?? like let me speak my truth girl
i can literally go on a whole tangent with how i feel abt everything just in relation to this. aro/ace ppl have had such bad and minimal representation for like ever so it just feels so invalidating seeing a once in a life time occurrence of an aro/ace character being a thing just to be dwindled down into an allonormative character all under the guise of “aro/ace ppl can still date / have sex!” like, obviously, but you’re missing the point.
tbh, i feel like we just need more aro/ace repulsed characters in general just because romantic and sexual relationships are so normalized and just EVERYWHERE.
like i would love demi, grey, aego characters and so on but the world is just not ready for characters lacking/ not feeling romance and sexual feelings yet so baby steps i suppose
also before anyone comes at me for “invalidating” aspec ppl im literally asexual and cupioromantic myself sooo 🤓

Hi Hazbin Hotel fandom 👋 it would be really cool of you all to stop shipping Alastor with every single other character possible. I’ve been getting a lot of hate for trying to explain this in the comments of a billion radioapple ship art posts and i’m sorta close to losing my mind.
He is canonically aroace. Yes aroace people can be in relationships. Absolutely they can. They can be in sexual AND romantic relationships. 100%. But PLEASE for the love of all that is holy and unholy- if you are not on the aspec, arospec, or aroaspec spectrums- do not publicly post content where he’s making out with Lucifer. Or Angel dust. Or- well- you get the point.
We get ONE character. ONE that is CANONICALLY AROACE. And I am getting absolutely torn to shreds every time I try to hold my little poor orphan boy hands out asking for little scraps of aroace representation. “Please sir, can I have some aroace?” I’m practically Oliver Twist at this point.
People are completely erasing his sexual and romantic identity and it’s really disheartening for me and I’m sure for a lot of other aroace people. This has been stated before and has been stated many times, but, IF YOU WOULD NOT SHIP A CANON GAY CHARACTER WITH THE OPPOSITE GENDER YOU SHOULDN’T SHIP A CANON AROACE CHARACTER WITHOUT PROPERLY PORTRAYING THEIR ARO OR ACE IDENTITY AS WELL.
It’s not even about the ship art it’s about the complete erasure of his aroaceness. Could people pretty please stop yelling at me for pointing that out? No I am not a hater. No Vivzipop did not say you can ship Alastor with whoever you want (as somebody told me, but has yet to show proof she said this specifically). No it is not ok to do this. I am BEGGING. You guys have an entire massive cast of characters who are of age and have interesting dynamics to ship. Leave Alastor alone unless you include his identity and an explanation as to why you think the portrayal benefits the aroace community.
It’s really simple.

I find it funny how weird people are with the alastor shipping debate. Some people (with a very condescending tone) are stating that fandoms cannot be controlled and will ship whoever they want (true but I doubt people who are on the fandom website aren't aware of the porn rule), or people on the other side telling those who ship alastor that they are purposefully being ignorant douchebags. I think alastor is of course being side lined in his sexuality. I don't believe thats a crazy concept considering it happened to gay characters getting shipped with women, happened to lesbian characters bring shipped with men. I think at the end of the day that argument ended on "you're not a morally bankrupt person for shipping a gay man with a woman, you're just probably lacking creativity and an imagination that exceeds your personal lived experience, as well as possible prejudice/bias that you can self reflect on," (again you're not a Stupid Bigot for needing to do this. We all have our subconscious biases we need to work and reflect on). Aro/ace people have a right to their feelings lmao even if you're partially right in that alastor will still be shipped. We can feel like the fandom is ignoring Alastor's core of who he is, his richness of characteristics, and his depth to pidgin hole him into a common archetype. Which i think is a fair opinion to have. Ones sexuality is a fundamental part of who they are, and ignoring Al being aro/ace strips him partially of his canon characteristics. You don't have to defend you're entire existence if you ship alastor tho. I was in the voltron fandom when keith and shiro were being shipped, ive been in the discourse trenches and couldn't care less about fake people kissing. But i can see how, you know, when you're excluded it can get annoying, and ones blog is a place to let go when the patience well has dried up. The character aren't real, but you're fellow queer members are. And they see how easily it is for you to forgot to engage with aromantiscm. A lack of interest and compassion in understanding our views and way of navigating the world. Its not as simple as "fandoms will ship whoever they want its not important" or "anyone who ships alastor should be harassed and shamed". Its a hard knock life for all of us. Lets see other's perspectives before judging? And maybe have some understanding for those in your community who are forgotten, who are just trying to make some noise, whether is be angry, sad, or desperate, just to be heard

Okay can we just talk about how the Hazbin Hotel fandom does not give a shit about Alastor being aroace? Cause like everybody always has a ship for him and it’s just like… no dude he’s just some radio demon guy💀 And I will admit I used to be like this too. I use to ship Charlie x Alastor. And honestly little cringe me didn’t really understand the concept of being aroace. But as someone who has been on both spectrums I do think aroace needs more GOOD representation in media.

I wanna see a flashback of Alastor where he thinks that he might be gay for a bit because he knows that he's not attracted to women and he has a whole crisis about it.
But he doesn't have a crisis because of homophobia he has one because he's basically a misandrist. 🤣
