Part 1 Translation
01:05:20
They start answering questions submitted by fans pre-broadcast, and the first question for Ayaka was “what’s was your most memorable line in PGSM?”
As Ayaka worked to answer it, Director Suzumura strikes again and joked “speak like a politician, ‘I don’t remember any of it, my sincere apologies’,” and sets everyone laughing. 😂 😈 🤣
Ayaka answered “苺は最後でしょう!” (strawberry is always the last) from Act 12 and gave the context about eating strawberry shortcake with Usagi! 🍓🍰
Ayaka then mentions that scene is also written into the lyrics of one of the songs she sang, so the dialogue was especially memorable for her.
At 01:06:30 Ayaka starts looking at the tablet to find the specific lyrics, saying she noticed it was shared in the live chat comments. (OP: I posted it asking if Sayonara ~Sweet Days was written specifically with Ayaka in mind. 😳🤭)
Co-host Miyuu makes note its the same context they discussed when someone commented thinking Ayaka doesn’t like strawberry. 🍓
At 01:06:48 Ayaka finds the comment and reads out “少し苦手な生クリームも君の笑顔で食べさせられたね”, and proceeds to explain the context and sentiment behind the lyrics within PGSM. (OP: please take note how happy and warm Ayaka looks and how gentle she sounds when explaining that!) 🧡
At 01:07:03 Co-host Miyuu mentions the comment was made by the viewer from Canada. Ayaka and Director Suzumura were both understandably surprised by that! (OP: Thank you Miyuu, I really can die happy now. 🙏 )
And then Director Suzumura strikes again, saying even though Minako could eat whipped cream with Usagi, it’s impossible for Ayaka even with Sawai Miyuu’s help. 😂😎🤣
Director Suzumura then takes the mood down HILARIOUSLY. He shared that when he heard “Minako” and “Ferris wheel”, all he could think of what when Minako died alone. 🎡😈 (OP note: Director Suzumura directed Act 47 filming, but not Act 12.)
Please proceed to note Ayaka’s reaction, I think she speaks for all PGSM fans here:
Director Suzumura proceeds to explain the filming direction in Act 47, that the idea of filming Minako’s hospital bed being empty was to allude to Minako discharging from the hospital, but the white imagery was intentionally dream-like to then show in fact Minako’s gone, cutting to the letter Minako left behind. (OP: Director-san? DIRECTOR-SAN???? WTF?!!!!!!!!!!!!)
Ayaka then talked about how the film site felt extraordinary for that episode, that she herself had felt numb after filming.
Ayaka and Director Suzumura talked about how they had rehearsed the crying scene in the Secret Senshi Base, and the director recalls how the girls had cried more in the rehearsal than the real thing, especially Mew was crying buckets in the rehearsal, and then couldn’t cry at all in the actual filming. 😭
Director Suzumura said he wished they had filmed the rehearsal scene as well, because it was better, which Ayaka agreed. 😂
At 01:09:16 Ayaka looked and read out the comment that said “ 私は泣いた” (I cried) and both she and Director Suzumura immediately said “thank you very much” together. (OP: *pterodactyl screech* That was my comment!!!)
01:09:25
They transition to the next topic, this time the prompt is asking Ayaka for costume/fashion pointers.(?) Ayaka said make up is more important than extravagant clothes.(?) (OP: Sorry I got lost here.)
Director Suzumura talked about Act 35 when Venus had to fight Zoisite, he had a random stray thought that it’s “gold vs silver” (their hair colour) and that led him to think of 金角 & 銀角, a reference from 孫悟空 (Monkey King), and it set all of them laughing. 😂😎🤣 (OP: Director-san, what’s your brain made of???)
After laughing about it, Director Suzumura apologized for derailing the topic. 😎
01:10:35 (OP: many guessing here, I got lost.)
The next prompt was more for Director Suzumura, and the question submitted referred to him being a father-figure to the cast, but how it was framed made Ayaka and Director Suzumura laugh, but basically it asks what Director Suzumura thought of Ayaka in PGSM are.
Director Suzumura mentioned it seems Ayaka was a bit more “my pace”, and Ayaka pointed out it’s probably because she found it hard to interact with others.
Director Suzumura proceeded to say Ayaka gave an impression of strength to do things alone.
Co-host Miyuu prompted that Ayaka didn’t have that many scenes at the start of the series because of Minako’s idol and Venus’s setting, and Director Suzumura responded that it’s not only because of story setup reasons, but there’s also some scheduling reasons involved when specific characters are not in some episodes, since Ayaka and the girls were also all students and so their work had to scheduled around school schedules too.
Ayaka affirms that their individual school life made the five Senshi’s filming schedule hard to match.
01:13:45
Co-host Miyuu asked what was the age range for the Senshi cast audition, and the director remembered even actresses' in their twenties could enter them.
Funny enough the director had to ask Ayaka how old the characters were supposed to be in story, if they were high school or middle school student, which Ayaka correctly responds middle school.
They counted off Ayaka, Mew and Keiko being the same age, and then Miyuu was younger and Rika the youngest, but all in the same age range.
Director Suzumura shared the casting for Usagi/Moon was the last to be confirmed because they couldn’t find the right person, until they met Miyuu in the audition and felt they finally found their “Usagi-chan”!
Cohost Miyuu then asked if Sawai Miyuu seems Usagi-like in real life or not, and Ayaka confirms Miyuu is indeed very Usagi-like. (OP: dear lord, the two Miyuus are confusing...)
Director Suzumura chimes in saying including Miyuu’s silliness/craziness. (His exact words were “頭おかしい”)😂
Ayaka shared that Miyuu’s also very energetic, positive, full of smiles like Usagi.
Director Suzumura recalls when the girls were doing their photoshoot for the Visual Book, it was really cold, and Miyuu cheered everyone up with a “minna, ganbarou!” (Let's all do our best!), and saying the work won’t end even if it’s cold if they don’t do their best. 😂
Ayaka also noted that Sawai Miyuu had the most experience among the Senshi in the industry when they filmed PGSM, and co-host Miyuu was shocked to learn Sawai Miyuu was in キッズ・ウォー (Kids’ War).
Ayaka shared that Miyuu’s usually the one that reminds everyone if they are getting sloppy at work.
Despite the good sentiment, Director Suzumura strikes again and closes that despite all that, Sawai Miyuu’s silly/crazy. 😂😎🤣
Director Suzumura also mentions that out of everyone, Miyuu was the biggest Sailor Moon fan and really understood and put a lot of work into Usagi’s character portrayal.
01:17:05
Co-host Miyuu asked what Ayaka’s exposure to Sailor Moon was before PGSM was, and Ayaka confirms she had zero exposure to Sailor Moon at all.
Ayaka shared that because of her lack of knowledge, she initially had no clue which role she wanted to audition for when asked. Director Suzumura then cuts in and says “Queen Beryl”... 😂😎🤣
Ayaka shared that she has two older brothers, so growing up she had limited exposure to the more typical feminine things at home.
She knew of Sailor Moon, but the most she had was the transformation roleplays she would do with other girls in kindergarten.
Director Suzumura then rambles about being scared that Ayaka was going into a tangent exposing some deep dark history about herself, and thank god it was not the case. 😂😎🤣
Ayaka clarified she played with her older brothers more as a kid, and Director Suzumura followed that she probably got a different exposure of the transformation roleplays (as a Kamen Rider instead of a Sailor Senshi). He even makes a pose for Kamen Rider transformation:
Co-host Miyuu then responded, but accidentally said “男兄弟” (male brothers), and got deadpanned by Director Suzumura for saying it weird since “males” are implied in “brothers” and the three had a bit of back and forth teasing Miyuu. 😂😎😅
01:18:35
The next question is from a fan Ayaka’s familiar with, but the name sounded so real Director Suzumura was worried it was someone’s real name because it sounded real yet weird at the same time and they laughed about that.
The prompt was for Director Suzumura to share any behind the scene or embarrassing things he recall working with Ayaka, and if possible, share the ideal role he would want Ayaka to be cast for if she works with him again in the future.
Just as Director Suzumura started answering, he got derailed by hearing co-host Miyuu refilling her drink and called her out. 😂 😎 😅 🍶 (OP: you can even hear the staff laughing in the background! hahaha)
Director Suzumura said he wants to see Ayaka take a role that is opposite to herself, such as an assassins that kills in cold blood, but not in a way that means she can’t be kind, but to show a ruthless side of Ayaka no one has seen.
Ayaka says she wants to do it, and Director Suzumura said it’ll be especially cool to see Ayaka act “cold”, but it would be amazing to see Ayaka act cold blooded while maintaining an exterior of her normal self, like killing someone while showing her usual kind smile.
Co-host Miyuu ask if Ayaka herself have a role she wants to do, and Ayaka shared she kind wants to take a role that’s more carefree, silly or slow, almost-Usagi like, surprising that she’s never done that before.
Co-host Miyuu then reads a comment that mentions while not an assassin, Ayaka had played a role of a murderer before, where her character pretended to be the victim and accusing others as the murderer, which Ayaka confirms she did acted in a role like that.
Director Suzumura goes back to then say as an assassin, he wants to see Ayaka act like a professional with control over emotions and actions. (OP: this makes me think of Killing Eve.)
There are also comments that says would like to see Ayaka act in the role of a psychopath, and Ayaka said she wants to do it, and Director Suzumura said she’d be fit for such a role.
01:24:30
Director Suzumura mentioned Ayaka’s most recent tokusatsu appearance in Ryusoulger (episode 39), where she played a kindergarten teacher and RyusoulBlack’s love interest, and that Ayaka’s got to show a warm and protective side in her acting again.
They talked about how Sawai Miyuu, Jouji (Mamoru) and Masaya (Motoki) were also all in Ryusoulger, it felt like it was just PGSM casting overall.
Ayaka talked about how at the film site she was surprised to find Nako Nako in the Christmas tree. 🦄🎄
Director Suzumura explained Nako Nako as an “一角獣” (one horned beast) and then immediately backtracted to calling it an unicorn in Katakana so it sounds more appropriately cute. 😂🦄
Ayaka shared the filming experience was very nostalgic, especially seeing Toei staff that she worked with from PGSM.
Director Suzumura wondered if any PGSM fan would have thought Minako showed up in Ryusoulger, changing careers as a kindergarten teacher, and wondering if she hasn’t gotten married yet. 😂😎🤣 (OP: Director-san?? WTF???)
Ayaka re-clarifies her role was “Akari-sensei” in Ryusoulger, and Director Suzumura followed that the characterization was very Minako like. (OP: *cough* not to mention being the love interest to the brooding, grumpy warrior of the show. *cough*)
01:27:00
The next question is from a staff on site, which prompted some laughter, and Director Suzumura and co-host Miyuu shared this is the first time in their guest talk a fellow staff entered a submission.
The question is for Director Suzumura, and his response was “for me? he could have just asked me on LINE and I’d respond.” 😂😎🤣
The prompt was if the director has seen the movie 大怪獣の始末 (released on Feb 4th) already, to please share his thoughts, and Ayaka and co-host Miyuu are invited to do the same if they’ve seen it.
When Ayaka shared she hasn’t seen the movie yet, Director Suzumura mumbled a snarky comment that he had to take back, blaming it on the alcohol and it got everyone, including the staff laughing in the background. 🥴🍺
Director Suzumura gave his overall thoughts, and then Ayaka asked him to talk about the content of the movie, and Director Suzumura’s snarky response to being manipulated by Ayaka sets them laughing.
Co-host Miyuu cuts in reading a comment from the live chat that says “ ワル村全開”, basically saying Director Suzumura is in full foul-mouth mode, which sets the ladies laughing while Director Suzumura tries to plea innocence to the viewers. 🤣
And then Director Suzumura responds to Ayaka’s request for movie content very vaguely that it made Ayaka confused:
Director Suzumura gave some further response about the movie, and then Ayaka tried to help him wrap the conversation up nicely by justifying the surface level response is to avoid spoilers for her and viewers, Director Suzumura then comments on how Ayaka’s suddenly very “angel-like”, when not long ago she was the one who tricked and put him into the tough position like a devil, and described her to be acting like her shirt, half white half black! 😇😈 (OP: Honestly I think they’re just drunk and having too much fun at this point.)
01:32:25
Co-host Miyuu asked if Ayaka had any specific favourite movies, and Ayaka shared she liked darker toned movies, like horror or mystery films, which happens to be the same for co-host Miyuu.
When Ayaka mentions also liking zombie films, Director Suzumura cuts in to say Ayaka’s done one herself - Miss Zombie.
Director Suzumura mentions that Matsumoto Hiroyuki (PGSM Nephrite) played the late husband of Ayaka’s Zombie character in Miss Zombie (OP: OMG?!)
Director Suzumura teases how Ayaka sounds so open and positive in having acted a zombie role, as most people wouldn’t be happy about the fact.
When asked if it was hard to act as a zombie, Ayaka shared that the zombie couldn’t talk, and Director Suzumura immediately pointed out zombies aren’t supposed to be able to talk, and it was only then Ayaka realized the fact... 😂 (OP: OMG Ayaka LOL)
Co-host Miyuu then tapped Director Suzumura on the shoulder and shared, “now I get it. She’s 天然,” which Director Suzumura affirms the assessment. (OP: I’m dying from laughter watching this.) 😂😂😂😂😂
Once they calmed down from the laughing and Ayaka processed the fact that zombies don’t talk, she shares that acting as a zombie was tough because it fully relies on action and behavioral cues.
They started laughing again, Ayaka sharing she does like watching zombie movie, but it just never clicked for her the zombies never talk. 😂
Director Suzumura was relentless and mentioned if a zombie can talk, humans would have hesitated from shooting them on sight. 😂😎🤣
The conversation topic shifted to co-host Miyuu, and Director Suzumura teased Miyuu for being super reactive and easily to cry no matter what she’s watching. Miyuu self-disclosed she started crying in the 15minute mark watching Weathering With You.
Director Suzumura ask Miyuu when she stopped crying if she had cried through out the film, Miyuu’s response of “at the end” set Ayaka and Director Suzumura off because typically you’re expected to cry at the end of the movie. 😂😂😂 (OP: these three are too chaotic. lol)
Director Suzumura then also interjects on not understanding what co-host Miyuu meant, that Miyuu’s description is too hard to interpret, and that sets Ayaka off once again. (OP: Director-san is just fully embracing playing the straight man in a comedy...)
01:37:35
Co-host Miyuu transitioned the topic back to PGSM and ask if there’s a way to watch PGSM besides DVD, which director Suzumura confirmed it’s not on the Toei Tokusatsu fanclub website.
Miyuu pointed out that she tried to search it up and couldn’t find it as well, but Director Suzumura confirmed DVDs are still being produced and available.
Director Suzumura started flipping through the Memorial Book and landed on the Act 46 and pointed to Ayaka she was sporting a “得意顔” (triumphant expression), and it set Ayaka and Miyuu off.
Director Suzumura than points out how the other three looked all beaten up, and Ayaka looked shocked for a moment wondering as well, then said Venus must’ve arrived afterwards to save the others, and Director Suzumura joking responded she should have been there from the start. (OP: I can’t tell if they are being serious or not, does Ayaka remember the episode??? lol)
Director Suzumura than brings up Act 47 again and he points out the photo where Minako’s dies, please observe Ayaka and Miyuu’s face while this man laughs. 😓😈😩 (OP: God dammit, Director-san, ISTG!)
01:41:00
(OP note: Director Suzumura directed Act 36, 43, 44, 47 and 48, which certainly meant he’d have to have a really good understanding of Rei and Minako’s relationship in the later half of the series and Rei’s reaction to Minako’s health condition for him to direct the filming.)
The next question prompt was basically for Ayaka and Director Suzumura to share anything memorable from PGSM.
Director Suzumura talked about Minako and Rei’s relationship in PGSM, especially on how Rei’s very strong-willed and possibly aggressive in some cases, and kept wanting to do something about Minako’s illness, but Minako kept rebuffing that her health condition isn’t important, left him a strong impression, that Ayaka portrayed Minako to be a with a lot of strength.
Director Suzumura further comments having the strongest impression on how Rei and Minako’s relationship started, where Mars was trying to protect “the Princess” that Venus was pretending to be, and was perturbed by Minako’s instruction to leave her alone.
At 1:43:30 - Director Suzumura than further shared, prefacing it’s his personal opinion, that while it wasn’t initially planned, he thinks Ayaka and Keiko’s real life friendship and dynamic had bled into their character portrayal in PGSM, that created a complex and strong relationship between Rei and Minako in the series.
When Ayaka proceeded to respond that she and "Kei-chan” were really close during filming, Director Suzumura interrupted to tell her to be careful, that she made it sound like she and Keiko are no longer close, when they are still very close right now. LOL
Ayaka laughed and clarified that the 5 Senshi are all very close, but when filming PGSM she was closest with Keiko (as opposed to she is closest with Miyuu nowadays), especially because she and Keiko had the most partner scenes, which led to her spending the most time practicing her lines and just chatting with Keiko the most.
Ayaka agreed that Rei and Minako had a special relationship in the show, and Director Suzumura further complimented that Rei and Minako’s friendship was refreshing that it felt, that it’s frank and straightforward (“サバサバ”), which is more typically seen in friendship between males than females, which he thinks is really cool to see.
Co-host Miyuu mentioned even in the anime, Rei seems more boyish.
1:45:35
Director Suzumura asked co-host Miyuu about watching PGSM, and Miyuu shared she had watched it, but then proceed to remain Director Suzumura that she borrowed his PGSM collection and got the first DVD to watch after learning Ayaka’s going to be a guest on the talk show.
She shared she watched it all, and immediately Ayaka knew what’s going on, and she and co-host Miyuu made fun of Director Suzumura that it’s his fault for misleading Miyuu, because Ayaka was barely in the early episodes.
Director Suzumura defended himself that Sailor V was in the early episodes and Minako’s C’est La Vie was also often heard in the early episodes.
Director Suzumura admitted he should have given a different disc as Miyuu complained she didn’t see much of Ayaka.
Director Suzumura than said co-host Miyuu should buy the discs herself and watch it all, and Miyuu said she now does want to watch everything.
Co-host Miyuu then said even though she didn’t watch all of PGSM, she did do a lot of research, such as look up Venus’s transformation scene on Youtube.
Director Suzumura said Venus’s transformation scene was especially really cool, especially where Minako’s hair transformation.
He further commented on how the 4 other Senshi’s transformation were all done in quick succession, but Venus’s transformation was especially graceful, and Ayaka laughed that it seemed especially long.
Director Suzumura then somehow ties it all together really well and shared the director that worked on the CG for the transformation is the same director that overlooked the CG production for 大怪獣のあとしまつ - the movie they were talking about earlier.
Ayaka and co-host Miyuu clapped for Director’s Suzumura’s expert promo (OP: Seriously though, that segue was really well done?)
1:49:00
They try to then move on to the next topic but got sidetracked as Director Suzumura teased co-host Miyuu’s “そうっすね” expression and she was reading the prompts make it sound like she’s reading the morning news, and think she’s had too much alcohol to drink.
Director Suzumura had a bit of fun teasing how the next submission included irrelevant information, but the next prompt essentially asked Ayaka to share a work experience that made her feel “it’s great she could contribute/give back to her hometown.”
Ayaka shared that recently she did a photoshoot for a ramen restaurant in Iwate, and Director Suzumura commented that Ayaka doesn’t seem like someone who likes ramen, which Ayaka then shared ramen’s her favourite.
Director Suzumura was shocked when Ayaka shared she could eat a lot of ramen, commenting even though Ayaka’s so thin.
When Ayaka claimed she’s not thin, Director Suzumura and co-host Miyuu IMMEDIATELY start rejecting her claim. lol
Ayaka then shared that because she’s wearing her brand’s oversized shirt so it’s hard to tell, but she shared she’s been eating too much ramen recently she does think it’s becoming a problem.
Co-host Miyuu and Director Suzumura then once again refutes Ayaka’s claim, and Director Suzumura even said Ayaka’s face is as small and lean as his fist. lol
When Director Suzumura brings up his fist again, Ayaka teased him for cheating because of course his fist looks bigger when he brings it forward to the camera. lol
Co-host Miyuu then asked about recommendation for Japanese liquor in Iwate, making Ayaka laugh and Director Suzumura making a helpless retort. Ayaka recommended 南部美人, and co-host Miyuu asked a staff for that for her next drink while Director Suzumura teased Miyuu for drinking too much.
Ayaka laughed that she thought the conversation would lead to her being asked about Iwate’s famous tour spot or the likes, not expecting to be asked about japanese liquor. lol
Director Suzumura then asks Ayaka for some places to visit in Iwate, which then lead to some conversation about food. (Which is beyond OP’s ability and knowledge to translate.)
They got so off topic Ayaka laughed while commented “what the hell is this conversation?” lol
Apparently it takes “only” 2.5 hours on the train to go from Iwate and Tokyo, and vice versa.
They talked more about traveling preferences and all the stuff, and ended up realizing that Ayaka and co-Miyuu seem to have a lot of similar perspective and interest. The two exchanged words of greeting as a way to formally acknowledge they’d like to get to know each other better outside of work setting.
They then talked about Miyuu being interested in purchasing 502Easy, and Miyuu shared she’s interested but probably will buy a different one than the one Ayaka’s wearing to avoid clashing.
Director Suzumura joked that she might not end up matching with Ayaka, but it would be hilarious if he also buys one and he and Miyuu showed up matching.
They talked about how that would be hilarious, and mentioned that even for today they actually didn’t plan or talk about dress code to match, that it’s a miracle they both wore blue, even though today should have worn Venus’s colour, not Mercury’s.
Director Suzumura then joked that next time when Jupiter shows up, they’ll all just been invisible because of the green screen. (OP: LOL, but also, make it happen!!!!) 😂😎🤣
2:00:00
They started closing the guest talk here, including letting Ayaka promo her calendar and apparel brand again. She cracked the joke about her calendar’s shipping time being very fast again. lol
Director Suzumura then also said it would be nice to invite the other Senshi like Sawai Miyuu or Kitagawa Keiko to be a guest. (OP: jfc, if they get Keiko here, it’ll definitely be a lot of laughter on set, as Keiko’s hilarious on talk shows! Also there’s be so many, MANY people watching.)
Ayaka then also promoted her Youtube channel, which she calls “Komactube”. They also shared that Ayaka does talk about PGSM in her videos on Youtube. (OP: she has two of them! I just don’t know enough to translate them fully back then. Maybe it’ll be my next project.)
Then Director Suzumura gone into his own promos, and there was so many Ayaka commented “there’s still more?! It’s longer than mine!” And it made them laugh.
As final closing, Ayaka shared she had fun and would love to do this again, which Director Suzumura and co-host Miyuu they’d love for that to happen and next time they’ll plan to wear orange instead.
Ayaka thought she’d had trouble chatting for 2 hours, but the 2 hours finished in a blink of an eye. (OP: you bet if they invite Ayaka again, I’ll be up at 3am to liveblog again. lol)
FIN.
