Ironstrange roles swap idea but not of Tony and Stephen.

Pepper Potts is the owner and CEO of Potts International and Tony is the CTO and head researcher. Rumors of their relationship run rampant. When Pepper was kidnapped in Afganistan it was to threaten Tony into giving them weapons schematics with her life. Multiple videos of her capture are sent with the threats and Tony decides to give his AI the go ahead to do whatever it takes to rescue her. Pepper is rescued and brought back a few days later and Tony builds an arc reactor to keep her alive. Feeling responsible for her condition, he builds the suit to give her the ability to never be put in that situation ever again. Tony doesn't make a suit for himself because that would distract him from making sure Pepper's suit is the best of the best - especially when it seems like everyone and their mother wants to hurt Pepper to get the tech and Pepper is fighting against super-powered assholes.

On the flip side, Christine Palmer has gotten in a car crash that keeps her from ever being a doctor. Her condotion is not necessarily crushed hands. Feeling guilty for distracting her from driving, Stephen Strange hunts down any possible treatments and cures even when she herself is adapting to the situation. Christine turns down most of the surgeries, but Stephen manages to convince her of the one for Nepal. Going along with it for Stephen's sake, Christine agrees to look for Kamar Taj, but mostly thinks of using this as a trip for self discovery and reflection. Her few efforts into asking people about Kamar Taj do bear fruit though, and she can't turn away from magic when there's an entire other field of study to look into. There's even healing magics.

Tony and Stephen meet as the respective friend dates of Pepper and Christine at a party Pepper throws in celebration in the aftermath of a fight (some kind of big one). Stephen, while accepting that magic exists bc Christine wouldn't lie or be easily deceived, rejects using magic himself because he's a pacifist and his introduction to magic was seeing Christine hurt from fighting other sorcerers. He does help with research however, his memory helps with translating.

In my head, they bond from feeling responsible for pushing their friends onto their current paths and the inherent guilt that comes with it. They exchange contact information and call each other (to complain or vent or just find a sympathetic ear) and eventually realize they're basically dating already when having a meal together.

(In the background, Pepper and Christine TOTALLY tried to set these two up. They high five and have a girls day out gossiping about these two losers.)

I try not to get too invested with fiction, but the what...if finale makes me want to puke! I keep telling myself it's fiction, but it feels like an awful nightmare.

If it wasn't for Benedict's incredible acting, I would be done with marvel and Stephen Strange. (I'd just retreat into the beautiful world of fanfic.... which is what I'm gonna do)

Sorry for ranting, I just want to know more of your thoughts.

Ugh. I had a whole reply here, and my PC blue-screened. 2nd time it's done it in 2 weeks; I'm wondering if the poor thing's starting to die. Anyway, sorry it took me a while to get back to you, my RL crap, blah blah blah, energy, blah blah.

Anyway. My points in my original post were:

I was getting Marvel burnout in early 2022 but I figured it'd be revitalized with MoM

It wasn't and I was sorely disappointed with MoM the longer time passed between viewings.

I was also looking forward to Thor 4, and when that turned out to be a total joke, I stopped looking forward to Marvel stuff until I got proof from others that it was actually good stuff. GOTG 3 is the last film I watched since MoM and I haven't watched a full show since Hawkeye. So, yeah, I'm checked out of MCU and I live through fandom instead. I write my own stories and fix its and I worry less and less about post-Snap canon in fanfic.

What got me through that episode in particular were the wonderful Stephen fans at A Strange Server on Discord. We ranted together in the What If thread we had going and just commiserated in our disappointment regarding the episode and how it was presented. I love this community and it's a great place to be for a Stephen Strange fan.

(The community itself is filled with many types of shippers - CleaStrange, IronStrange, ScarletStrange, FrostStrange, as well as non-shippers such as myself, and generally speaking we try to discourage anti-behavior since everyone has their favorites, though naturally there was some snark against Wanda in MoM and Carter with this last What If episode since those were the characters pitted against him. Snark definitely happens from time to time. The only exception to this anti-rule is that there's really no tolerance towards AI art on the server since it's crafted from stolen material, and the artists present are not shy about pointing out this fact).

Tony's bored.

Bored, bored, bored, bored.

He completed all the tasks Pepper assigned him and he wasn't allowed to start a new project. He didn't know what the big deal was. He has fainted from overworking before. JARVIS was just being a bitch and everyone was on the AI's side. He didn't have a training session with the Young Avengers and Stephen wasn't due back until four.

Tony groaned, rolling on his bed down to the floor. Before he hit the ground, he shifted into his badger form. It was a matter of seconds before his furry head popped out of his shirt. Shaking his entire body, he let himself settle in his new form. It always took him a while to adjust from being human to whatever forever he took.

When he was younger, he would shift regularly to make his mother smile. She always said he was a lot like his Zio Emilio. But as he grew older, he shifted less and less. His kind was uncommon and being human tended to be safer.

Sniffing, he let his senses reorient with the new body. He was tentative as he moved around, scenting his room. He forgot how overwhelming scent can be whenever he shifted. Immediately, the scent of his and Stephen's mixed cum assaulted his senses, making him sneeze. It wasn't bad, just odd. Knowing that those with a heightened sense of smell would be aware of their sexual activities, even after cleaning up, was quite embarrassing as well.

He made his way to the playroom for when he shifted. The room was a mix of a garden and a playground. It had various plants and trees with which he could hide and climb on. There were toys scattered all over for him to play with so he wouldn't get bored. He had hammocks attached in between trees for when he wanted to nap. He also made sure that the bots had access to his playroom so he could goof off with them. Playing with his bots in his shifted form always brought him joy.

Finally exhausted from playing with his bot children, he took a nap on one of the hammocks. It felt like no time passed when he woke, energized. Glancing at the clock, he could see it was already a quarter past three. Stephen should be home soon and their nonchildren done with training and/or their lessons.

Tony took a peak at the window and saw that the compound grounds were covered in snow. The thought of playing in the snow with their not-kids filled him with excitement. With that thought in mind, he dashed around to gather the kids. He didn't care that some of them had lessons or training until three-thirty. Playtime was more important. All work and no play makes the Young Avengers dull kids. Or something.

Getting Harley was easy. The boy was always up for a little mischief. It helped that his lesson was with Captain America. His protégé never really got over the events surrounding the Sokovia Accords. He was just happy the worst the young man had ever done was prank the original Avengers lineup. Harley was a little shit and Tony adored him for it.

Getting Riri wasn't difficult, either. She was tinkering with her armor and had no lessons for the day. All Tony had to do was jump on her workstation and plop on what she was working on. The young woman blinked, a wide smile forming on her lips and they were off. They knew JARVIS would save her progress and shut everything down. He could be awesome like that.

Looking out the window, he could see America and Kamala already throwing snowballs at Harley. It seemed the young man didn't have much of a hard time getting the girls. He pushed Riri towards the other teens, letting her know he could get Peter himself. The young woman laughed and ran towards a squeaking Harley, gathering a handful of snow herself. When the young man saw the other teen, he seemed to have a moment of relief. That was until Riri dumped her handful of snow on top of his head. Tony snickered as much as his form would allow. Harley should've really known by now not to let his guard down.

When he reached the room Peter was training in he knew it would be difficult to collect him. Bruce was teaching the class and Peter has always been a nerd to the core. Glancing at the clock, he knew the class was about to wrap. He may not be able to get underoos to cut but he can get Bruce to end the lesson early.

Tony barked, as if jumping on the desk didn't get Bruce's attention. He could hear some of the Young Avengers cooing but his attention was on the other scientist. After a short stare-down, the other man rolled his eyes in exasperation.

"Let's end the class today because someone," he chirped at Bruce's pointed stare. He always knew how to get what he wanted. Sort of. "Seems to have other plans."

As the room cleared out, Tony made his way to his spiderling. He jumped on Peter's back, making him lose his balance for a moment. It was a testament to how much the young man had improved when he regained his footing immediately. He chittered nonstop, pushing Peter to move faster. They were missing all the excitement and they still had to pick up Stephen from Kamar-Taj. It was around two in the morning in Nepal, so his sorcerer should be done for the day.

When he and Peter got to Kamar-Taj, Wong simply rolled his eyes and pointed to one of the more obscure sections of the library. At this point, the other man has gotten used to them invading the library.

Tony plopped on the table Stephen was at, watching his partner blink in surprise. In his periphery, he could see Peter cleaning up the scattered books. He knew this was one of the reasons Wong preferred Peter over everyone else.

The other man smiled in exasperation, handing the book to their teenage company. Next thing he knew, his boyfriend was being picked up and cradled in Stephen's strong arms. Tony snuggled the younger man's solid chest, taking in his scent and savoring his warmth. His lover always ran hot and it was perfect for cuddles during winter nights.

When they got back to the compound, Tony jumped out of his lover's arms in time to avoid getting pelted with snow. He cackled and pounced on Harley, making the boy flail before dropping to the ground with a thud. He may be cute as a badger but it didn't mean he wasn't dangerous. When he tried to pounce on America, the girl dodged and hit him with a snowball. Peter was bouncing around, flinging snow at everyone and managing to avoid getting hit. Then Stephen, Riri, and Kamala worked together and dumped a bucket of snow on the boy.

When they were all exhausted and done with getting clean, they congregated in Tony and Stephen's shared suite. The fire was roaring in the fireplace and the tech genius was back to his human form. He snuggled up to Stephen while the kids formed some sort of puppy pile.

Snow days were always the best.

Stephen ends up loosing the Cloak for three days. He searches everywhere until Wong tells him to try looking at the Compound. Rhodey tells him to try the mansion. May tells him to check the lab. Also whats with all the small smiles on their faces?

For the past three days, Stephen had been looking for the Cloak. The Cloak of Levitation, a relic that chose him and had become instrumental in saving Stephen’s life many times. The Cloak had mysteriously disappeared causing Stephen to panic a bit, as it had become one of his best companions. The Cloak was very loyal and surprisingly expressive and Stephen had missed its presence. He had searched all over Kamar-Taj and all three Sanctums as discreetly as possible seeing as Wong would have his head for losing it and also lecture him on how important that relics of power must not ever fall into the wrong hands and blah blah blah.

“God fucking damn it!” Stephen cursed as he fell onto the acanthus patterned couch, next to the grand staircase inside the New York Sanctum.

“Huh?” wondered Wong having heard the curse as he passed the stairs and walked down to where Stephen was.

“What have you done, Stephen?” Wong asked reaching the couch that Stephen was at, the look Wong gave Stephen made his already severe looking face even more severe.

“Nothing,” said Stephen sulkily in a slightly terrified voice seeing as he was afraid to tell Wong that he just lost one of the most important relics in all of magical history.

“Seeing as you’re in your tunic and are missing the Cloak, I’d say that you lost the Cloak of Levitation,” stated Wong, a small smile slowly lighting up his severe looking face, “and what have I said about how important it is that relics of power must not fall into the wrong hands?”

“Not to lose it because people can do bad stuff with it and what’s with that smile on your face?” questioned Stephen looking up at Wong, “and I’ve looked everywhere in all three Sanctums.”

“You haven’t tried looking at the Compound or Tony’s mansion yet,” stated Wong.

“No, I haven’t,” revealed Stephen, his face going red as the mention of his husband’s name brought up the feeling of butterflies and warmth in him.

“Well try looking there,” suggested Wong smiling again as he walked back up the stairs.

Stephen sighed as he stood up changing from his tunic to his casual clothes as he went up. Stephen lifted his arms in front of him and made the circular motions that would allow him the open a portal in space in front of him. Orange sparks coming into life as the portal opened giving him the inside view of the Compound in front of him. He walked through thinking that with the Cloak on he would have made an awesome entrance with the Cloak making itself bigger and even grander, but no can do. He looked around the common area of the Compound and saw Rhodes on the pale blue couch, the braces around his legs shining in the sunlight. Stephen was amazed how far Tony’s inventions went from weapons to tech that could help people. He could see Rhodes scrolling through a StarkPad while sipping coffee. Rhodes had looked up seeing the orange golden sparks of the portal closing.

“Hey man, what’s up?” greeted Rhodes putting down the StarkPad on the couch as he stood up, the braces on his legs whirring.

“You wouldn’t happen to have seen my Cloak, have you?” inquired Stephen, “I’ve been looking all over the three Sanctums and Kamar-Taj.”

“You should try the mansion,” Rhodes said, a small smile appearing on his face. Stephen felt that warm fuzzy feeling of butterflies bubbling in him again at the mention of the mansion, knowing that Tony would be there. Tony had a mansion close to the compound, but it was far away enough that people who wanted to visit had to drive or fly to the mansion. The mansion was Tony’s safe haven from all the stresses of the world now that he sold the tower.

“Then I’ll just portal over there then and thank you, Rhodes,” Stephen said, watching Rhodes walk towards the kitchen area.

“See ya, man,”

Stephen opened a portal, picturing the common area of the modern mansion, in his mind. The main entrance leading to the living room lined with small branches in tall glass vases. The living room was open, light coming in through the floor to ceiling windows. The grey velvet couches casting shadows upon the glassy looking floors. The house was extravagant as one would expect of someone with a lot of money, but looking around, Stephen would call the aesthetics of the interior to be simple, Tony only having what needed necessities necessary for living in a house. He looked around and could see the influences of Pepper and May in the house having added trinkets to make the house more lived in. On the couch, he could see a backpack with all its contents on the floor and table and May at one of the tables near the living room working on her laptop. May looked up having seen the sparks of the closing portal.

“Hey, Stephen, if you’re looking for the Cloak, it’s in the lab with Tony and Peter,” May said, Stephen sighed in relief, that feeling of the panic of losing the Cloak having dissipated, “Thank you so much!!!”

Stephen walked to the entrance of the stairs that would lead him to Tony’s lab, the walls going from silver grey to clear bulletproof glass as he kept walking down. F.R.I.D.A.Y. having opened the glass door to the lab alerting Peter and Tony to Stephen’s presence. Stephen could see Tony and Peter looking up in the air, the holograms glowing blue lighting up their faces. As he walked into the lab, he expected to find the Cloak, but he found no trace of the Cloak anywhere.

“Hey there, babe,” cooed Tony walking over to Stephen and pulling him into a hug and Stephen melted.

“Hiya Doctor Dad!!!!” yelled Peter also walking, well he looked like a newborn foal learning to walk, it was surprising how as Spider-man, Peter was graceful and so sure of himself, but just being himself, a high school student, he was so unsure of where to place his feet. Peter joined in the hugfest.

“Where’ve you been for the past three days?” asked Peter his eyes big and bright as all three of them broke out of the hug, with Peter bouncing on the balls of his feet.

Stephen decided to go with the truth, “I’ve been at Kamar-Taj and all three Sanctums looking for the Cloak,” his face going pink as he saw the small smiles that appeared on both Tony’s and Peter’s faces, “okay seriously, everyone I’ve talked from Wong to May today all had that same small smile on that’s on your face right now. What is happening?”

Peter and Tony both looked at each other and it looked like Peter was trying to contain all of his excitement at wanting to tell Stephen. He was hopping up and down switching from one leg to another. Tony fondly watching Peter bubbling with excitement, the small smile on his getting bigger making his face light up along, his honey whiskey eyes shimmering with happiness.

“This way,” said Peter leading Stephen to an area near the back of the lab, with Tony following them. Stephen finally saw the Cloak and was about to call for it when he saw what the Cloak was doing. The Cloak seemed to be playing with Tony’s bots Dum-E, U, and Butterfingers. It looked like they were playing some version of catch the ball, but instead of a ball, it was a hologram, a hologram of F.R.I.D.A.Y. The hologram giving F.R.I.D.A.Y. a humanoid form, the form of a 19-year-old with red auburn hair and pale skin in a simple v-neck shirt and jean shorts. The hologram of F.R.I.D.A.Y. seemed to smile with glee, the sound of her laugh actually matching up with the hologram, as she moved to avoid the arms of the bots and the Cloak.

“The Cloak has been here the whole time playing the bots and F.R.I.D.A.Y,” informed Tony smiling once again, Peter had joined the bots and the Cloak in trying to catch F.R.I.D.A.Y. Tony seemed to have finally figure out how to make the hologram more solid and allowing F.R.I.D.A.Y. to have some sense of touch to feel as the Cloak finally caught F.R.I.D.A.Y. causing the two to hit the ground, laughing as Peter grabbed her hand allowing her to get up.

“Hey Doc, Boss,” voiced F.R.I.D.A.Y. her Irish lilt ringing with laughter walking over to them. The hologram of F.R.I.D.A.Y. shimmering along with the laughter. When standing next to Tony the height of hologram F.R.I.D.A.Y. was up to Tony’s chin. Stephen heard the whirring of the bots moving closer to the three of them, the swoosh of the Cloak following close behind.

“You had me worried you know,” told Stephen to the Cloak, the Cloak somehow giving him a sheepish look. The Cloak swept over to the bots to somehow tell Stephen that it wanted to play with the bots, “just tell me where you’ll be next time.”

F.R.I.D.A.Y. having walked to Stephen gave him tap on his arm, he stood there amazed having felt the tap, “Can I hug you, Doc?” questioned F.R.I.D.A.Y. giving him her version of puppy dogs eyes.

“Peter, did you teach her the puppy dog eyes already?” groaned Stephen, as he was not immune to Peter’s puppy dog eyes like Tony and May seemed to be.

“Probably,” said Peter his face shining bright with mischievous happiness. Stephen opened his arms allowing F.R.I.D.A.Y. to step into them wrapping her slim arms around him.

“Group hug,” yelled Peter and everyone including the bots the Cloak joined in. Tony hugged Stephen from the back, and Stephen felt his arms wrap around him, Peter joined from his left side and the bots all in the front with the Cloak covering them too.

“Fry, call May down here to join the group hug,” asked Tony, his voice a bit muffled as his face was close to Stephen’s neck allowing him to feel Tony’s hot breath.

“Already did Boss,” F.R.I.D.A.Y. told them, Stephen turned his head to find May already in the lab and joining in the group hug, taking the only space left which was the right side. Stephen was happy that he had found a man to love, gaining a bigger family in the form of the bots, F.R.I.D.A.Y. and the Parkers. The warm fuzzy feeling he had for Tony now included everyone in the group hug

“F.R.I.D.A.Y. please take a picture of this moment,” requested Stephen, and he knew that he would cherish this moment forever.

Decided to do a little fic rec list, since I’m reaching the rereading phase of my ironstrange obsession.

This list consists of ironstrange fics, where they go into the past and try to fix things. Several are unfinished and may never be completed and while that can be disheartening, I can’t say that I regret reading them.

(these are not in any particular order. They’re all ridiculously amazing. Also providing my own summaries so y’all can give them more of a chance. Be sure to read all the tags and ratings)

The Futurist by shadowscribe (unfinished)

After Tony’s funeral, Stephen uses some of the stones to travel to a parallel universe where he dies in the car crash. He saves Tony in Siberia and tells him his goal is for Tony to be happy.

De Novo by MagiQueen (unfinished)

Tony dies in Siberia. Stephen from a future lost to Thanos, travels back in time to save Tony, knowing he is key to victory. Something goes wrong and they are both sent back in time to before the first Avengers movie. (this one got me on board with Friday being more than just an AI)

for a hundred visions and revisions by aventria, iluxia (unfinished)

Stephen is unsatisfied with the state of the world after the defeat of Thanos. An encounter with Morgan Stark, has him drowning in guilt. He finds a way to go back in time. First to after the first snap and picks up Tony when Pepper is pregnant, then they go further back and pick up Loki from the beginning of Infinity War. The three return back to just before Iron Man 2 and make changes to avoid the future Stephen came from. (this is one that really hurts that it will likely never be completed. It’s just so good! Especially the beautifully growing bond between Stephen and Tony)

A Blast to the Past by SassyAngel (unfinished)

Tony snaps in Endgame to get rid of Thanos. He’s somehow thrown back into the past, just before Civil War. Stephen shows up, sensing the infinity stones which are still in the gauntlet and demands an explanation. Tony is vague with his answers, intent on doing everything on his own but eventually let’s Stephen in(he’s pretty persistent). Tony builds a new team and gains the family he’s wanted and builds a better future for himself.

Anew. by IViv (complete)

Tony dies in Siberia. He wakes up in the past during Iron Man 2, due to a future intervention. Tony is determined to do things right this time and seamlessly pulls Stephen into his chaotic life. (this is the fic series that got me hooked on time travel fix it fics. It’s so good and so intricate and their are four parts and they are all complete!!!)

Back to the Future Rules Apply by atypicalsnowman (complete)

Tony comes to Stephen for help with the civil war. Stephen reluctantly refuses and comes to regret it. Using a spell to save Tony, things continue up to Infinity Way, ending up with them losing in a very different way and the infinity stones intervene, giving them a chance to redo Infinity War. On the flying donut, headed towards Titan, Stephen ends up jumping back and forth through time, learning more and more about Tony. (this one was so interesting and such a different way of having Stephen fall in love with Tony. most use the 14 mil futures for his love but I gotta say this was a great and fresh take on that concept.)

We Can Do Better by Zeethulhu (ongoing. updated weekly)

Infinity War ends up being the losing timeline and not giving up, Stephen manages to send himself and Tony to the past to the moments of their births. The two grow up separately and together and make changes along the way, making sure that they will win against Thanos next time. ( man, this fic. this fic right here. i have no words for how amazing this story is. Usually, i can’t stand pre-canon fics but this one has made me want to go back to all the college and high school aus i skipped. this story is super long and it just now reached the first Iron Man but it is worth it. the journey is amazing!)

After Tony’s funeral, guilt-ridden Stephen makes a bitter Friday a body and sends her into the past before Age of Ultron. As Tony Stark’s daughter, she works to change the future and make sure her Boss doesn’t die this time around. (i had skipped this one before because, i couldn’t wrap my head around Friday being a main character but De Novo changed that for me. I really liked the development she went through, especially with how she regards Stephen and it was a nice change of pace to see things from an AI’s perceptive and how Tony having a daughter shifts things.)

Well, that’s pretty much it for the time travel ones. I may have missed some but these really stood out to me.

I many do another rec list for fics that have Stephen present in Tony’s life from the beginning(Iron Man). There are some really good ones for that plot point.

Off the top of my head definitions of indefinable things by w_space is one of the really good ones. (frustratingly unfinished though)
