So I started another letter and wanted to give y'all an update that it's not going so well. If you don't know what I'm talking about please refer to this post.
Gerald Kaufman (1930-2017🙏🏼🌹🕊️), British MP, speaking from the rostrum of Parliament in 2009.
Gerald Kaufman was the son of Polish Jewish immigrants. Born in the UK, Kaufman was one of the country's most famous Jewish politicians. He was also a fervent critic of Israel, calling for sanctions against the Jewish state for its policies towards the Palestinians, and comparing Israeli soldiers to Nazis.
For years, Kaufman has been one of Britain's most outspoken critics of Israel.
In April 2002, at the start of Israel's Operation Rampart to halt the wave of suicide bombings in the country's cities, Kaufman declared Israel an "international pariah" and accused then-Prime Minister Ariel Sharon of ordering "his troops to use barbaric methods against the Palestinians", according to the BBC.
Kaufman, who was Foreign Secretary between 1987 and 1992, told the House of Commons in 2002 that it was "time to remind Sharon that the Star of David belongs to all Jews and not to his repulsive government. His actions sully the Star of David with blood."
In 2004, in an editorial published in the Guardian, he called for economic sanctions against Israel similar to those used against South Africa.
In 2009, during the war between Israel and Hamas, Operation Cast Lead, he accused Israel of exploiting Holocaust guilt to justify its actions in the Gaza Strip.
"The current Israeli government ruthlessly and cynically exploits the guilt of gentiles [non-Jews] after the murder of Jews during the Holocaust as justification for its murders of Palestinians," Kaufman had declared before Parliament.
Speaking of his personal history as the son of Jewish refugees from Poland, he had said that "my grandmother was in bed, sick, when the Nazis came to her town. A German soldier shot her in her bed. My grandmother did not die to provide cover for Israeli soldiers murdering Palestinian grandmothers in Gaza."
Kaufman had compared Hamas fighters to Jewish resistance fighters in the Second World War, claiming that "Israeli army spokesman Major Leibovich was asked about Israeli murders of, at the time, 800 Palestinians. The total is now 1,000. She replied instantly that '500 of them were militants'. That's the response of a Nazi. I suppose the Jews fighting for their lives in the Warsaw ghetto could have been considered militants."
His opposition to Israel has persisted with age. In 2012, he had written an editorial published by the Huffington Post claiming that Israel was a "rogue state", and that the fact that Israel is a democracy "means that the Israeli electorate is complicit in its government's war crimes."
In 2015, he had told the Palestine Return Centre, a Hamas-affiliated association, that "Jewish money" was the reason why British Conservatives were pro-Israel.
My mother had abdominal surgery the same week as Catherine and for an enlarged organ, like Charles. She took 6 weeks off work and even now still isn’t 100%. I can’t imagine her being abused by people on the internet, the media, anyone close to her trying to violate her private medical information and invalidate her as a respectable human being.
When I got the notification on my phone that said Catherine had cancer, I already felt bad because of what she’s had to endure while recovering from a surgery—and with so much stress that surely hasn’t made recovering any easier—but also now more than ever because she also has to deal with this. And with 3 young children. My mother has 3 children: a 24-year-old and 2 teenagers, and it’s bad enough to lose your mother at those young ages but at 5, 8, and 10 is just the one of the worst positions you can be put in. I can’t even fathom how hard it must have been to find the right time and words to break it down for them gently with such limited time and ways to share this news to children this young.
And for William, my heart is really breaking for him too. He lost his mother at such a young age and has seen so many people around him suffer and cause him to suffer by burdening him with so much, he must be feeling so much pain and guilt right now. And with an older father, your only living parent, that also has cancer is just hell. I know they’re rich and live in a palace and all that but he is in a very unfortunate position right now and I applaud how good of an attitude and great sense of dignity he has had since the day he was born despite all he’s endured. I know I crap on him a lot for things like his work ethic but I do admire how strong he is and always has been, his family has all my support.
And to the people backtracking all the conspiracy theories and hate now that we all know she has cancer, y’all are some two-faced motherfuckers and even if she didn’t have cancer it was never ok to act how you all did before. Someone else’s pain should not be entertained, you should all be ashamed of yourselves, able to have your own privacy and peace when it comes to your health while being vultures to a recovering mother going through chemotherapy.
br*tish "people" really popped off with the word grey. i will give you that! grEy looks so pretty! she's so cutesy! she's my wife. grAy????? i don't know her!
Btw if you come on holidays and stay at an AirBnb instead of an actual registered hotel I hate you personally. Not "I hate the gentrification and touristic massification and the way we can't live in our homes and are forced to move away because of tourism" in an abstract way- No, not just that. I hate you.
It's so hard being English on the internet because Americans oversaturate the platform like 100:1 (love you guys im joking)
But srsly, I'll begin reading one of the best fanfics ever and then the word 'panties' pops up and something in my soul dies and my visceral reaction is absolute horror
(this is a poorly veiled excuse to say sorry for the wait the Alastor forced proximity teaser will be posted SOON)
absolutely wild to me that your whole life is defined by exams you took when you were seventeen. their brains are not even fully developed yet. please pick a lane, adults. you dismiss their words. you call young people stupid and unable or not old enough to have good opinions or make choices or participate in the choosing of their own futures and yet you define their futures by one little test. well guess what an exam has a fuckton of choices and if they can't be trusted to have an opinion on their own lives then maybe they can't be trusted to make academic choices on a test either. either you give us a voice or you will not hear until it's too late
controversial, but: jack being irish is a very common headcanon and i honestly just can’t see it. in chapter 2, jack says “we’re english, and the english are best at everything.” if lotf takes place in the 40s-50s like many assume, the irish war of independence had only happened about 20 years prior and ireland was freshly liberated. i’m sure we all know the atrocities the english committed against the irish, and i just don’t think an irish kid would say “the english are best at everything,” especially so soon after ireland gained independence. i don’t mean to bash anyone by the way, this is only my opinion
also i understand pierre gasly completely. i too would let lance stroll get away with anything and fully blame a third party for any crimes lance definitely didn’t commit bc he could never do anything wrong
