Something I desperately want ppl to know:
LONG COVID CAN LOOK INDISTINGUISHABLE FROM ADULT ADHD
If you are an adult who has never experienced ADHD symptoms until recently: you may have a form of Long COVID
many ppl who have it call ‘brain fog’. Its primary feature is being unable to concentrate & short term memory/working memory issues, which severely impairs executive function.
COVID-induced brain fog’s effect on executive function is essentially indistinguishable from ADHD’s effect on the same.
& brain fog is A VERY COMMON LONG COVID SYMPTOM
as the number of adults with executive dysfunction has shot up, i want people to remember this. Especially if they get an ADHD evaluation and are told they’re not ADHD
Because we are all disabled, and we deserve care and understanding no matter what disabled us

LGBT mems: I grew up in the era of Don't Ask, Don't Tell, a policy that effectively made it illegal to serve in the armed forces if you were LGBT. We were also told never to ask anyone their gender identity or sexual orientation and not to answer truthfully if asked. Tony knew, though. Tony always knew and he accepted me before I had accepted myself. Eventually Pepper figured it out. She never treated me differently for being bi, though. None of my friends did and, to give the devil his due, even Stane, a heartless jackass of a villain, didn't make a comment on it.
Canon lookalikes: I looked a lot like IRL model Salomon Diaz, but with more pronounced eyebrows and a bit more bulky build. And older, obviously, since I lived to be well over twice his current age by any estimate I've come up with. I wasn't nearly as snazzy of a dresser as this guy is, though. That was all Pepper telling me what colors worked best on me and my taking her word for it. She always picked out the right things to make Tony look good, I trusted her to help me out. (Yeah, that's yet another thing Pepper is better at than everyone around her. Just another day ending in y for her.)
Canon interests: Languages. I collect books on languages, I speak three, I'm on year three of studying a fourth, and I've recently gotten into a fifth. My dyslexia and Auditory Processing Disorder will not stop me from pursuing my interests. My ADHD tendency to hyperfixate is fighting my dyslexia and APD and it's winning.

Currently going through an Encanto brain rot and I’m dragging all my followers through it. But I’m going to add my own experience with Encanto.

You may or not have seen some of these but this makes me so happy as a black woman. Growing up, I never got to experience this. I was never able to look at the TV and say “she looks like me” but seeing this makes me so happy that I actually cried.
Growing up as a nuerodivergent black girl in a nuerotypical white dominated society messed me up more than I thought and I think Encanto would’ve been a great movie to have in my childhood. To finally see Mirabel, an awkward girl that doesn’t fit in with the rest of her family would’ve been great for me as I feel the same “out of place” that Mirabel did as I am the only person in my family with ADHD. Luisa, a strong/muscular woman with very sensitive feelings would’ve helped me a lot (showing that big strong girls DO cry); and Isabel, a dark skin woman that’s portrayed as “beautiful.”
(Of course everyone else is important but these three would’ve helped my degrading mental health A LOT)
Something else I haven’t seen anyone else mention is that the animators even made sure they added the lighter palms to the darker skin characters
I know this might sound stupid to some people but I felt self conscious about my lighter palms because in all the animated shows/movies I’ve seen didn’t add this and I thought that it made me look weird or wrong. I even considered wearing gloves to cover them up at some point (considering where I lived it would’ve been weirder to wear them)
POCs are finally being put into the spotlight accurately and now more kids like me are able to look at the screen and say “look, it’s me.”
Essentially, the entire Encanto soundtrack is playing at my funeral or I’m not dying.

Mild aphantasia or mild prosopagnosia?
Is there a thing called a mild aphantasia or mild prosopagnosia? I can imagine a shape in my head when someone says imagine an apple. But the apple I imagine is always the same. An apple that looks like the Apple logo without the bite, red, and 2d. Or when I imagine a sunset just a canvas bottom is one color yellow for sand, there is an ocean in dark blue, and the top there is an orange sky with a half-sunk yellow sun. There are no shadows or contour it’s all just one color in a cartoony way. I can imagine a picture I saw like a dog, for example, Bichon Frise. I can see the picture flashing in the back of my mind. But I can’t bring it in front of me to describe it or just sketch it. It just disappears when I try to focus on it.
I can vaguely remember logos but there are no colors. I always fail at internet quizzes how well do you remember company logos. I know that there’s Google written in sans serif and there’s blue, red, and possibly yellow but I can’t recognize it. I am usually fine at seeing objects like blocks from different angles but if there are more than 5-6 blocks I can’t visualize it. I usually can’t tell if someone has a haircut or dyed their hair unless it’s an unnatural color. I usually can’t answer when someone says, I made some changes to the room do you like it, which usually upsets people. My room is usually messy but everything has stable places so I can tell when something changes.
I don’t have a problem recognizing faces but I can’t visualize them. I can’t visualize my face or any of my family members. I can visualize the faces of actors if I binge-watch a show but it still comes like a flash and goes so it is impossible to draw or describe. Also, there’s no color. When I try to draw something without a reference it is usually stickman or something weird-looking.
I usually mix people that look similar and I am usually the first one to say celebrity lookalikes, which also means I will mix them from now on, or when two songs have similar melodies. I don’t have this problem with sounds or melodies, I can remember them fine.
I also saw some posts on internet aphantasia and prosopagnosia being related to ADHD / ADD. And saw a poll where 40% of aphantasic people were on Aro/Ace spectrum which sounds interesting.
Does anyone have similar experiences?

ADHD’s non-developmental-disorder lookalike: BURNOUT
so you relate to like every ADHD/ADD mood/feel post on your dash!
but when you look up ADHD/ADD diagnosis guidelines, you see things like:
‘symptoms must have started in early childhood/by the age of 3/7/12’
‘symptoms must be disruptive in at least 2 out of 3 life arenas throughout life’
which ... isn’t the case for you.
if you suffer from ADHD/ADD-esque concentration & follow-through issues as a late teen/adult, but you’re pretty sure that you weren’t having those symptoms early on/growing up: you might be dealing with burnout.
An increasingly-common affliction in the American working class, burnout is related to the brain being overworked &/or frequently or constantly flooded with stress hormones.
things that can trigger/lead to burnout:
having a stressful/high-stakes life/job
working long, tedious hours doing something that does not stimulate or relax the brain (such as rote homework)
being bombarded by new information (i.e. social media)
constant anxiety about money/health/basic life necessities
lacking the means for/neglecting necessary self-care (getting enough sleep & eating properly)
having to constantly choose between too many options without meaningful ways of narrowing the choices down (i.e. shopping online)
all of the above w/a minimal or nonexistent support network
in other words: burnout is induced by living the average life of like 90%* of American adults under the age of 40!!!!
(*not a real statistic. I’m just saying a lot of us millennials/gen z ppl are burning out.)
burnout can look a LOT like adult ADHD/ADD because it seriously fucks with executive function. some symptoms ADHD/ADD & burnout have in common:
struggling to concentrate
feeling paralyzed when asked to make decisions
procrastinating on ‘simple’ or ‘nonessential’ tasks
difficulty prioritizing work/errands/tasks
burnout also takes on depression-like symptoms such as:
feeling tired, exhausted, &/or irritated all the time
feeling like nothing matters/everything is ‘the same’
isolating oneself from others
changing appetite
the thing about burnout is: even if it looks like ADHD/ADD (or depression) to you, the treatment for burnout is nothing like the treatment for ADHD/ADD (or depression). it mostly involves getting rest & reducing stress (as if most of us have this option, but that’s a post for a different blog!) this is why it’s important to get the correct diagnosis - so the treatment can be the right one.
of course, that being said:
people with ADHD/ADD can also get burnout. in fact, ADHD/ADD can exacerbate burnout symptoms: it’s already hard enough to make decisions when the brain is healthy, much less when it’s so stressed you can barely think!
tl;dr:
because capitalism is a cruel mistress, a lot of people are just struggling to executive function b/c we’re burnt out by stressful, non-stop lives with no work-life separation and too many too-same buying options every time we try to buy something as simple as dish soap.
if you’re pretty sure you don’t have ADHD/ADD (or cousin developmental disorders such as ASD) but severely struggle with concentration/executive function, or you feel like you have ADHD but lack the developmental history to back it up: you might have burnout.
and your problems are still valid & still deserve treatment & management!

of course im talking about that graffiti screenshot im not a fool
so Valve had released three new in game screenshots for Half-Life: Alyx on their twitter. the most important one (aside from the one that features our lord and savior ERROR) is this;
under a bridge, classic blue truck on the edge, headcrab on a stick in the back, and of course, the fucking beautiful graffiti on the sides of the tunnel that are just, glowing in the dim light. for reasons outside of graphics and map structure, this is the most important screenshot we've gotten lore wise. here's a good run down as to why.
first, the graffiti on the far left;
depicted is a large Citadel placed in between a Vortigaunt and a tall skinny human. the interesting thing is that the Vortigaunt and Citadel have their own defining features to them, such as the Vortigaunt's individual small eyes placed above their big one in the center of their head, and the Citadels ropes connected to the ground and the small outward unfinished parts that havent been constructed yet. however, the person on the far left has no defining features to them.
people have speculated that, because what is depicted is a Vortigaunt and the Citadel, the human figure might be Gordon. this could also be because the figure itself is bulky, so you'll see it more as a male figure. however, I have high speculation myself, from analyzing the little details we had on them, that the person is Alyx.
similarities they share is not only what seems to be the crooked belt she has around her hips, which is even crooked in the same angle as her actual belt, but also, the crudely drawn Black Mesa symbol on the chest.
of course, this is only an analyzed assumption, but i believe that since the game is literally going to be about Alyx, it's safe to guess that its her.
as for what the entire image is suppsoee to mean, that can't be made certain just yet. it could be a foreshadowing to the Vorts getting her and Gordon out of the Citadel in the beginning of Episode 1, but then I don't understand why Gordon wouldn't be depicted in the image as well. alternatively, it could just be a general depiction of her reaching the Citadel later in-game once you've seen this graffiti. nothing is concrete, though.
next, is this;
depicted, on the top of the wall is the honeycomb like Antlion's ness, surrounded by Antlions. at the bottom is a group of Vortigaunts reaching towards one that is resting on the ground. behind that resting Vort is what looks like a pile of eyeball spheres. what they actually are is unknown.
the graffiti as a whole is much more important than what it can be first guessed. if you were to remember the Antlion mission in Episode 2, where you are to collect extract from the Antlion's nests with a Vortigaunt on your side, the Vort mentions that their kind used to perform 'husbandry' with the Antlions' larvae. meaning they farmed it for the extract.
what should be noted is that this is an 'ancestral practice', meaning a pre-evolved version of the Vorts commonly farmed the extract, which then got passed down to their more evolved counterparts. they likely couldn't continue the farming due to the Combine invasion of their homeworld.
as well, the Vortigaunt says it 'dissolves false veils that divide the vortessence', and that 'all this you(Gordon) shall witness when-', then is cut off. then, when at the table, the Vort that traveled with you eats the extract, and they, including the others around the table, begin to glow purple and gain blue eyes. the same energy is seen in the beginning of Episode 1. the vortessence that is 'divided' described by the Vortigaunt is that shared energy they use when doing very powerful things, such as bringing people out of a frozen time state, stopping someone like the G-Man (albeit having to use over 10 of them to hold him back), and bringing someone borderline back to life by connected them with a lifelink of another human.
i think it's extremely important that we recognize, as well, that this piece of information is very, very briefly mentioned in Episode 2, and could've been easily forgotten about. but it wasn't. so you can have high hopes that they bring back other briefly mentioned details that you may think they'd forgotten. what this also means, obviously, is that this particular piece of lore to the Vortigaunts' history is going to be very important, more than we thought it was before.
one last detail, if you look above that wall, you can see what looks like eyeballs on that curved part of the under bridge. however, it looks much more different brightened up;
they seem to be relatively flat disks with an iris and pupil lookalike style on the flat part, and they are coming out of the wall by a thin rigid stem to keep them attached. they almost loon like satellite dishes, without the signal spikes. they could also resemble cameras. it seems that they also look similar to the pile of eyes behind the resting Vortigaunt at the bottom of the wall. still, what they fully are is completely unknown to use.
to add some more speculation, i would like to add this screenshot from the trailer in relevance;
me and my bf have soeculated this being a Vortigaunt made base, due to its structure and the eye image on the door.
what it actually is, in terms of the area and who inhabits it, are not confirmed. but, i believe with the graffiti on the wall, which already look to be done by the Vortigaunts due to its telling of their history, this could very well actually be a Vortigaunt base.
finally, as you can see in the whole screenshot, there are orange rhombus shapes around variously placed glowing green large dots, and coming out the wall, in the best way i can describe it, look like vertically squished down mid-eruption volcanos. i, personally, have no clue what this is supposed to mean, let alone what it actually is. so there's nothing i can really say on it other then, artistically, it looks cool.
thats all i can really get out of the image. a reminder that all of the speculations i made are not concrete to what could actually be in the game's story. as well, i don't claim any of those speculation to be fact (even though i probably wrote the sentences in a way that makes it look like i claim them as fact but i'm a big stinky doo doo brained ADHD chick so just bare with me here man i'm trying).
if there's anything that i might've missed or you believe i have speculated incorrectly, or you just have general theories of your own that you believe in strongly, i'm open to reading them.

I am at last coming to the conclusion that my school's theatre department is basically the real life version of Newsies and this is gonna be a multi-parter but I'll explain why.
(This is going in no particular order)
Race: Our friendly neighborhood BTC lookalike. Inseparable from our Spot, chaos embodied. Tall bean; he's like a shark- if he stops moving he'll probably die. There's a photo of our theatre group and he's lying on the ground and our Spot has just tackled him. People love him but they love his Chevy even more. Sweet but VEEERY ADHD. Terrified of our Smalls and said once that I "scare him sometimes". (For the record I'm 5'2", have the BMI of a popsicle stick, and cried watching Top Gun.)
Spot: Looks like a very good replica of Tommy Bracco. Ex-football player. Our Race's shorter shadow. Scared the bejesus out of me at first but is actually pretty nice. Scares the hell out of the underclassmen and then immediately befriends them.
Crutchie: My best friend. A literal ray of sunshine, impossible to dislike. I could go on about her forever but I'll settle for saying that she's truly one of the sweetest people I have ever met
Albert: An upperclassman, looks like Sky Flaherty with curly hair. Seems a bit standoffish, but pretty nice, just really serious.
Smalls: Another one of my best friends. She's 4'10" and a third-degree black belt in tae kwon do. Also dangerously smart and would absolutely be my one call if I ever got arrested
Katherine: Another upperclassman. In my homeroom class, has a massive collection of vintage sneakers and cameras. Constantly sassing our Blink, Spot, and Albert. Her dad was on the select board and coaches my skiing team.
Blink: My neighbor. Looks scary as all hell, is scared of firecrackers. The ringleader but works behind the scenes and really deserved better. Incredibly smart, plays guitar, sax, and more. Looks like he could kill you and probably could but probably won't. Had to say the f bomb in a line once and just stopped, broke character and looked absolutely shocked but at the next rehearsal walked in to see some forgotten chaotic scene unfolding, said deadpan, "What the ****?" and walked out. Also one time I said "paper plates aren't good for much but it's satisfying to throw them into a fire" and received the reply "So are little brothers." Is currently going out with his onstage fiancée and we're all rooting for them.

Thinking about how Aubrey has canonical ADHD and now I'm gonna project how bad mine is onto her even though hers is a mild case.
So, imagine if Aubrey had a bad case of hyperfixation on fantasy media. She just loved reading all kinds of fantasy books and what not. She has a weird attachment to elven races. She deffo had a Lord of the Rings phase.
Duck and Dani don't really get her rambles, but they'll sit and lsiten to her. Sometimes when Aubrey finishes a book she'll be sitting with Dani then Dani listen to her ramble on and on about the nuances of the story and the characters and how she loved the novel.
At one point she talked the whole crew into letting her run a DnD campaign for them. The amount of homework she brought in was insane, but they all had fun, And in the end the group understood a bit more why Aubrey was as in love with it was she was.
Also Aubrey having stims!! One of her biggest stims is the snappy flame thumb thing she does, but she has others! One Dani like a lot is one where Aubrey just taps her cheek with her finger repeatedly. Dani thinks its cute.
When Aubrey gets overwhelmed she'll start doing flappy hands as a way to ground herself, she won't look at any one spot for too long and starts rattling off rbadon trivia on randon topics. Duck is always the one who can calm her down when she gets like that. A big dad hug and switching her focus over to one of her interests always calms her right down.
Barclay is the only one with the skill to notice when Aubrey's staring at something intentionally, or when she's totally spaced and is just looking off in the distance as her brain goes all crazy up in her head. He often has to snap her out of a trance if he realizes she's going to deep in a spiral.
Another one of Aubrey's good times is bouncing or jumping. If she gets excited she'll start using bunny hops or just flat out jumping around like a crashed teen girl.
No one questions her jumping, and no one really questions what'll trigger the jumping stim. When Duck told her he and Minerva were together? She did bunny hops!! When it finally set in Dani was gonna be her girlfriend? Bunny hops!! Finding out they would have a new link between the worlds? Bunny hops!! When Dani said yes to her wedding proposal? BUNNY HOPS!!
Mama thinks the bunny hops are the cutest thing, always encouraged Aubrey when she starts bouncing. Mama always encouraged Aubrey's stims, because she doesnt want her to surprise that kind of stuff cause its important! Unless its one of the harmful ones, likes her nail biting or scratching. Mama is like a hawk when it comes to those. If she's in the room,can Aubrey even goes to bring her nails to her mouth before anyone else notices, Mama's on it.
"Aubrey Little, you chew on those nails and I will not hesitate to beat your ass." She threatens, and empty threat, but Mama certainly would chew Aubrey out for the nail biting if she does it.
Mama suggestions Aubrey gets some shellac polish on her nails, its keeps them harder to chew on plus discourages the habit. Aubrey uses the excuse of Dani and the bedroom to not get her nails done. Which, Mama promptly smacks her upside the head for. A playful smack, but still.
Most people don't see the darker side of Aubrey's neurodivergence. The only people who have sense how bad it truly gets are Mama and Dani. Not even Duck has seen Aubrey when it gets bad.
No one sees the weeks Aubrey can only eat spaghetti-o's and Pepsi because anything besides those comfort foods tastes like literal trash. Or when Dani has to stand jn the bathroom and make sure she gets her hair managed, face washed, and make up before bed because other wise Aubrey will get three seconds into the process and properly forget what she's doing and go off elsewhere. Or when Mama comes in after Aubrey's been at work for at least six hours and Aubrey still hasn't even gotten out of bed because the feeling if carpet on her feet is making her flip out today and she doesn't keep socks or slippers next to the bed.
The rest of the crew doesn't see when Dani accidentally scraps some ceramic dishes on each other getting them out of her cabinet and Aubrey flinches away and covers her ears. Or when the silverware will scrape on the plates and Aubrey nearly shrieks cause that sound is so bad to her.
Mama thinks the worse she's ever seen Aubrey was when she came in one day after her dads funeral. She was curled up in the bathroom floor with a podcast playing, the giant cartoon of goldfish she had purchased yesterday was open and empty on the ground next to her, and she had a can of spaghetti-o's she was eating. There was no hair dye, luckily. Aubrey always stripped her hair color out and absolutely murdered her hair when she felt really out of control of everything. But this just seemed to be grief and a crave of comfort. Mama doesn't even think twice, she grabs Aubrey's favorite blanket and the massive turtle stuffed animal. Not to mention the lookalike doll that,Aubrey had since age six. Comfort items. She burritoed Aubrey up in her blanket and laid her head on the plush, tucking the doll in her arms and giving the women, who at this point *was* Mama's daughter the biggest hug she could.
When Mama tried to pull away, Aubrey grabbed her hand and pulled her back in. "Don't go yet." The podcast was still playing, it was one Aubrey had already listened to at least three times. But,,Mama was just here to comfort her baby. She laid on the ground behind Aubrey, pulling her in to be little spoon for a good long cuddle session until Dani got home. It took two hours, but Aubrey feel asleep for what Mama could guess to be the first time in days. She turns off the podcast and scoops her up into her arms.
Dani comes in as Mama's carrying Aubrey to their bedroom to tuck her into a cozy bed. The message is clear of how that day has been sjpent. So, Dani goes into the bathroom and picks up Aubrey's dishes and throws away the Goldfish carton. Gets the turtle plush and follows Mama to the bedroom and notices just how many blankets they've piled on this bed to comfort Aubrey. Two ten pound afghans Barclay had crocheted, a big fleece, two comforters on top, and another cheap knot blanket. Aubrey liked to drown in blankets and her girlfriends hair when she slept, that much was very very obvious.
Dani thanked Mama for taking care of her girlfriend, already changing out of her work uniform and into some pajamas. Mama said it was nothing, and slipped on her shoes, giving Dani a hug and heading out to her own home.
The vampire climbed into bed next to Aubrey, pulling her close and smiling a little as she cuddled even closer. There wasn't an inch of distance between the two. They were one, holding onto each other and willing to stay like that till morning.
