So i’ve perfected my personal sock recipe.
I tried something out with smaller needles for the toe area and reinforcing the ball of the foot with a slip stitch and I LOVE how it turned out.
They’re sooo comfy, warm, and a little supportive. It’s only taken knitting like… 15 pairs of socks to get to this point??
Yarns are Patons Classic Wool Worsted in Brown Mustard and Dark Gray Mix.

I need to find a group of old people and join in on the gossip like they used to when people would do chores- because watching TV while knitting is boring, my mouth and ears want to be engaged.

My thought process for knitting
Me: I want to knit a sweater!
Logical brain: Great! There’s more than enough leftover worsted weight yarn in your stash to safely make a baby sweater! It’ll be good practice!
Me: *casts on for baby sweater*
Me: *finishes baby sweater in two days with enough yarn to possibly make another one*
Logical brain: You have a better understanding of the construction now! Since that pattern was top down, maybe we can find one tha—
Me (dumbass, signed up to many knitting related promotional emails): I want to knit a sweater!
Logical brain: Cool! Maybe we can find a new pattern to—
Me (dumbass supreme, pointing at an email): I want to knit this sweater!
Logical brain: Um—
Me (vibrating with an excitement that can only be felt by true fools): It’ll be my size! And made with lace weight!
Logical brain:
Me: Hehehehe knitting is fun!

beginning a new knitted project is a miserable experience. like you painstakingly make about three thousand preparatory swatches, then still have to frog your work 10+ times because the fuck it i don’t care about mistakes mindset hasn’t set in yet

Wanted to post something I'm knitting, I can only make scarves because it's honestly a good stimming for my hands with ADHD a very nice repetitive motion. I want to learn to knit other things at some point or crochet but for now I'm happy making scarves
Granted I've only finished like two cause I just buy new yarn and needles I think I have like.....three in progress somewhere

“For a knitter with ADHD, it’s not unusual to believe that we simply don’t deserve to start a new knitting project. Our ADHD neurology seemingly predisposes us to a bleak, no win scenario. There is a long list of familiar, recurring ADHD tendencies that lead to racked up UFOs, a stash with which we’ve largely lost interest, and a lot of bad feelings about how and why those exciting projects fizzled.…But listen here, this entire shame-based outlook is considered very outdated by mental health professionals. Are you ready to choose a more enjoyable path forward?”

A bit random but I've been getting into knitting lately. And I love it but the problem is that my adhd brain cannot focus on knitting some big chunks of project for too long. It quickly becomes boring, you know? I loose all the fun of it and it feels like a chore.
What I found working for me is using this multicoloured beautiful yarn. It changes patterns and colours every several rows and it makes my brain happy.

I know it might sound weird for experienced knitters who already know everything but I'm kinda a total beginner and just figuring it all out so it seems like such a big deal hah (If anyone's got any tips like this for how to make knitting less intimidating smts I'd really love to hear them)

Neurodiversity and learning new crafts
Learning crochet:
Remember when I asked for good crochet resources for beginners a while ago? You've all been amazing! I found a lot of good tutorials thanks to all of your replies.
I've been slowly working my way through the basic crochet stitches. I had a hard time turning off my knitter's brain at first, but I think I've finally gotten around to how crochet works and am now making steady progress.
Neurodiversity and new skills:
Neurodiversity can make picking up skills like these a difficult progress for me. I'll get hyperfixated on learning something new thanks to my ADHD, but when my dyspraxia makes things difficult I'll drop it like a brick. I'll then feel like a failure for having dropped it, but can't get myself to try again because my executive functioning regarding the skill I was trying to learn just gets worse the longer I wait.
I wanted to share these difficulties because I know how isolating it can be when you're trying to learn something new and your experiences don't match up with those of others. This can be a huge barrier to picking up new skills, and deserves more attention. If any of this sounds familiar, know that you're not alone.
After years of repeating this cycle, I know how to recognise it and how to deal with it when it happens. I take things slow and put my project aside when it gets frustrating, but make sure to pick it up again later once I've calmed down. I try to learn from my mistakes, but also celebrate my successes no matter how small. I switch learning methods when something doesn't work for me, make sure to use sensory-friendly materials, and keep reminders around of how far I've come for when I feel down about my progress. I also constantly remind myself of the fact that being able to see the mistakes I've made is not a sign of failure but one of progress. Spotting mistakes used to drain my motivation but has become something that makes me feel good about myself over time, because being able to identify them means my skills have improved.
Most of my practice samples up until recently were tangled messes. I frogged them so I could reuse the yarn to try again. I've now gotten to a point where I can take some pride in the fact that I've got the bare basics of crochet down. I've kept my most recent samples instead of frogging them: they're far from perfect, but that's exactly why I want to keep them. I will store them in a box so I can look at them in the future, cringe a little, feel pride over the fact that I stuck with it, and appreciate the progress I've made since.

[ID: seven wonky crochet samples made in red yarn. Four samples were made in single crochet, half double crochet, double crochet, and treble crochet. The other samples are a flower, a granny square, and a square consisting of filet stitches.]

Fellow Crocheters/Knitters,
do you guys watch shows while you crochet (or knit)? I almost always need a show or podcast to get in the zone, possibly due to the ADHD. However, quite a few people have mentioned that they find it too distracting. So do you watch shows/another form of multitasking while crochet, or nah?

They’ve talked about Stede’s past enough that Ed knows that his parents and his ex-wife never made any kind of fuss over his birthday. Ed is going to change all that—he’s going to make a big fuss! Not a huge fuss, though. It’s early in their relationship, and he doesn’t want to scare Stede off. He’s pretty sure it’s too soon to propose or ask to move in together, even though he knows he’s all in on this beautiful, bitchy lunatic of a man. Fortunately, Ed now knows just the gift to get for Stede. Something that will show that Ed cares for and listens to him. It’s perfect. ~~~~~ Ed plans the perfect birthday for Stede. He makes a list and everything! But things do not go as planned....

Bluebell is all cozy in her sweater made of hand spun yarn!
I’m slowly working on a pattern e-book for knitting furby clothes bc I wish there was one I could’ve followed >:(
It’ll most likely be free/ pay what you want bc this is so niche and silly. I want furby enjoyers to try out knitting and maybe find a new hobby. But maybe I can also persuade some knitters to get into furbies !
Idk if I’ll stop at clothing for 2005s or if I’ll do a tutorial type thing for needle felting / sculpting replacement feet? I do really want to also make/adapt some patterns for 98s as well.
If this is something you want please let me know or give input on this.
right now I’m less motivated bc it really would just be me writing a book for myself and idk I can’t hold myself accountable when it’s just for me (ADHD got my ass there)
