Hey sock babes
I just made a free "tv knitting" level sock pattern compilation. My genius plan is to knit down the list in 2024, marking them as done as I go.
But since it is the season of Yule, Christmas, and general gift giving,
If you would also like 32 sock patterns to go ham on (without spending 2 hrs of work finding patterns) here's the Google Drive.
Merry met, my friends!

I learned so many things making these and I am extremely proud.

These are the slipstream socks if anyone else wants to make them.
I learned to read charts and also do the Kitchener stitch!

gay ass socks (part 4)
hello hello! someone reblogged my last post about these socks earlier and it reminded me to post an update! (thank you to anyone who reads these by the way i appreciate it!!!)
Tumblr media
happy to say that the calf increases worked out very well! my measurements were right on, and the stripes are looking a lot better this time around. i'm also past the point i was at before frogging, it's nice to keep making progress now!
you can't see in this photo but the yarn is just starting to transition from this coral-y shade into the true pink, it'll probably be obvious within the next few stripes! i'm gonna keep going with these until they're over my knee before i start the brioche tops, and that'll probably take a little while, but they're getting there!
not sure yet if i want to decrease back down under the knee, but i'll keep them as they are for now. as long as they're not too loose they should be ok
thanks for reading!

The yarn race is finished, and it's a draw.
Tumblr media
The socks are done, and technically the package came before I got home and finished them
BUT
Tumblr media
This box of yarn is 10, yes 10 skeins short, so really I finished the socks before "the yarn came"

another entry into the endless discussion of how long it takes to knit a sock.
Tumblr media
it's not bound off because i wasn't sure if my kid would want some 1x1 ribbing at the top, but they say no thank you, so this is it done. i bound off just now and it took less than ten minutes.
we watched the extended edition lotr movies over the last few days, and i knit this whole we watched. i started out working on a jumper, but by the time frodo was leaving the shire, i'd realised that i didn't want to be faffing about with underarm stitches when they were, say, in the mines, so i grabbed some sock yarn and cast on for mindless knitting instead.
i was knitting a little intermittently, since i can't knit when crying uncontrollably, and we didn't watch all the credits, and also i started a bit after the movie did. the movies are about 11 hours and 40 minutes, including the credits. so the sock, beginning to end, took less than 11 hours of knitting, and honestly probably closer to ten.
socks are fast and easy, i swear! let 2024 be the year you let handknitting socks into your heart!

So i’ve perfected my personal sock recipe.
I tried something out with smaller needles for the toe area and reinforcing the ball of the foot with a slip stitch and I LOVE how it turned out.
They’re sooo comfy, warm, and a little supportive. It’s only taken knitting like… 15 pairs of socks to get to this point??
Yarns are Patons Classic Wool Worsted in Brown Mustard and Dark Gray Mix.

gay ass socks (part 1)
hey there! first post on this blog! i thought it might be nice to have a more casual place to share my projects (i used to maintain an instagram for this, but who has that kind of time, right?)
so, anyways. The Socks.
Tumblr media
i knit these suckers back in, like, spring 2022? something like that? they were a shockingly fun project for something so big and repetitive, but unfortunately back then i was a terribly tight knitter (i'm still prone to gauge issues, but at least i know how to deal with it now) and they came out way too small to ever be wearable. they've been shamefully shoved in the bottom of my forgotten projects bin since then
but damn do i love the idea of these socks and i still badly went to wear them! so i'm finally frogging them and starting over
Tumblr media
i did most of the frogging the other night while rewatching alien (1979), then last night i reskeined them-
Tumblr media
-which looks pleasantly like ramen noodles, and then dunked them in some cold water and straightened out the fibers. they're hanging up to dry now but i bet i'll be able to rewind them tonight and maybe cast on the toes!
i'm going to redo these in a slightly different pattern - this time i'll try out "Brioche Topped Thigh High Socks" by Lavanya Patricella, because i've been in a brioche mood lately, and i want to try and use up every scrap of the yarn to get these socks as long as possible!
also i need a nice easy project to bring to lectures, and my other project (big cabled cardigan) is not working out for that
anyways, thanks for reading and i can't wait to show more of this project!

This summer I had a sudden desire to dye a bunch of rainbow striped yarn in different ways, and play with the results. So far:
Method 1, i thought it would be a cool challenge to dye a skein of yarn carefully planned so that i could knit a crescent shawl and have stripes the size I want all in one skein. So I picked a pattern, did a swatch, did a bunch of math (yes, there was a spreadsheet), portioned out the yarn by weight and I think it turned out pretty well. Almost all the color changes happened where I wanted them, but I did have to dye more yarn to finish the bindoff.
Tumblr media
Method 2: I wound a longish warp on my warp board, and dyed sections of the warp in sequence. Unfortunately I did it in the evening when I was tired, and put the turquoise not where I actually wanted it, but it still turned out really fun
Sock 1, a herringbone rib
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sock 2, SlipStripeSpiral combined with a plain white yarn
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Method 3: I held the yarn double, and knit a blank in garter stitch on size 15 needles. I then dyed it as a repeating long gradient, using the garter ridges for even spacing. I did it on our somewhat sloped sidewalk, so the dye would run more, and the underside would get an interesting effect.
Tumblr media
Sock 1: standard top down sock with a sailors rib pattern
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sock 2: toe up with a traveling stitch zigzag

I should be able to get probably 3 more pairs of socks out of this, but I haven't decided on what design I want to do yet, so nominate your favorites if you get so moved
