Reveal - Ch. 11: Control
Tumblr media
Summary: Daisy has a lot to learn about her new powers, but she receives the best help there is from a distinguished guest.
Read on A03
-----------------
Between catching up on classwork and having to watch everyone else train with their new powers while she had to sit and heal, Daisy was depressed. She tried to be happy for Carol, who was learning how to use her rocket powers in a safe, fireproof room where she could train without destroying anything. On the more invisible-powers side, Jemma and Fitz had gained limited telepathic abilities to send each other mental voice memos so they mostly just stared at each other even more than they used to. Joey practiced his metal bending, Kenesha turned water to steam and ice and even a little rainstorm, and others dashed around with superspeed, built up their superstrength, or honed their gymnastics with stunning dexterity and balance. One kid could even walk up walls as long as he used his hands for stability.
She reluctantly applauded along with everyone else as the spider kid completed his first journey across the ceiling.
Jemma plopped down on Daisy’s makeshift sofa made of gym padding.     “Vibrokinesis.”
“Sorry?” Daisy turned and raised an eyebrow.
“It’s what you have. Vibrokinesis.” Jemma let the word hang in the air as a revelation.
“Are you sure it’s not lycanthropy?” Daisy asked sarcastically.
Jemma rolled her eyes. “You’re not a werewolf. No one is afraid you’re going to suddenly cause an earthquake on the night of the full moon.”
“Awooo!” Daisy howled quietly and poked Jemma with her elbow. “Certain about that?”
Jemma laughed a little.
“They are afraid of me, though. I can tell.” Daisy gestured out to the cadets.
Jemma didn’t have patience for Daisy’s dramatics when there was a new scientific discovery to convey. “Would you like to know more about your powers or just wallow?”
Daisy sat up straighter. “I’m listening.”
Before Jemma could launch into her speech, Carol trudged out of her fireproof room and collapsed next to them on the floor with a sigh. She laid her head on Daisy’s lap, and Daisy began stroking Carol’s disheveled hair out of habit.
“I’m exhausted,” Carol whined. Daisy noticed Carol’s training clothes were a little singed, but not nearly as bad as her first time practicing.
“You listen too,” Jemma instructed, tapping Carol’s shoe with her own. “I’m about to tell Daisy what I’ve deducted so far about her powers.”
Carol straightened and turned to Daisy, who was still slouched in discouragement. Carol intertwined her fingers with Daisy’s and squeezed gently before focusing on Jemma.
“Whatcha got, Simmons?” Carol asked.
“Vibrokinesis,” she said a third time, finally eliciting the desired reaction.
“Oooo, impressive!” Carol looked back at Daisy, who was still reticent to cheer up.
Daisy shrugged. “So I make stuff shake and break things, including my own bones. Any way to make it voluntary, and preferably, painless?”
Jemma sighed. “I think you’re missing the—Hold on, I have something to show you. I’ll be right back.” She stood and began walking to her lab, but then turned to further explain. “The global director of the Secret Warriors program, Dr. Jiaying Zabo, wrote about this possibility in her research. It’s so much deeper than you think. I mean, truly fascinating, beyond any physics I’ve studied, but the theories she had…”
Jemma finally noticed in her ramble that everyone in the entire gym had gone silent and was staring just behind her in awe and reverence. Jemma slowly turned and found herself face to face with the global director herself.
“Daisy Johnson?” Dr. Zabo walked up to Daisy, who snapped up to attention. “Your friend is right. Come.” She beckoned.
Unsure of this invitation or where they were going, Daisy looked to Bobbi, who only nodded that she should follow immediately. The Program’s global director outranked them all.
“You too,” Dr. Zabo gestured to Jemma and they left the gym floor for the lab. Carol tried to follow, but Bobbi called her back to discuss Carol’s progress with her powers.
Once they were in the lab, Dr. Zabo nodded to an agent Daisy recognized. On their first night being recruited into the program, Dr. Zabo had been there with her.
“Alisha Whitley,” the agent introduced herself. Jemma and Daisy introduced themselves in return.
Dr. Zabo told Agent Whitley they “wouldn’t be long” and the agent understood it as an order. She stood guard just outside the door, close enough to hear but far enough to keep an eye on anyone approaching.
“Dr. Zabo—” Jemma began after a moment of silence.
“Please, call me Jiaying.” She seemed to wince at her title and last name, unless Daisy imagined it. No ring, but a ring outline tan. Recent divorce was Daisy’s guess.
Jiaying noticed Daisy’s evaluation of her but besides a silent challenge, daring Daisy to ask, she ignored it. Instead of feeling like a spy in training, Daisy realized sheepishly upon being caught that she just felt rude. This spy stuff was going to take more practice for sure.
Jemma started again, also a little flustered, “Jiaying … ma’am … I was just telling Daisy about your work on vibrokineses, but Daisy would like to know if there is a way to control it.”
The corner of Jiaying’s lip turned up in a slight smile, letting them relax a bit. “Of course. So I take it your destruction of property was involuntary then?”
Daisy wasn’t sure if she was being tested or made fun of, but she decided a simple yes was best and tacked on a ma’am for good measure.
Jiaying thought for a moment, considering Daisy inscrutably.
“You don’t just make things shake, Cadet Johnson. You can sense and control the vibrations of everything around you.”
Daisy looked around the lab. “Vibrations of what?”
Jemma stepped in. “At an atomic level.”
Daisy nodded to pretend she understood. “And I can control … the atoms?”
Jemma clarified, “Sense the vibrations and then manipulate them. Like, causing earthquakes, for one example.”
Jiaying rushed in, “But that’s not all. Here.” She walked over to a sink and turned on the faucet. A steady stream of cool water poured out. “Feel the water without touching it.”
Daisy approached the sink, and Jiaying demonstrated, holding her hand to the side of the water. She stepped out of the way, and Daisy copied her. With both of the scientists watching, Daisy felt a bit like an experiment. She closed her eyes and breathed as her mom had her do before. If centering herself could help her stop her powers, maybe she could start them again without bringing the building down.
She felt it. Each individual drop, no, even smaller than that. She opened her eyes and moved her hand. The water followed her even as it poured down, manipulating its path at her fingertips’ instruction.
Daisy exhaled in relief. She turned to share the moment with Jemma but lost control and directed the water in her direction.
“Hey!” Jemma squealed, now wet.
“Sorry!” Daisy turned off the water reflexively and Jemma assessed the damage to her outfit. Their eyes met and they couldn’t help the giggles that overtook them.
Finally, Jiaying cleared her throat. “Good start, cadet. Your next exercise will be harder. Come.”
One by one, Daisy learned and conquered the tasks Jiaying set for her, from moving a rock across a table to shifting liquid in a bowl. That is, until they got to a row of water goblets. Daisy was familiar with the party trick, of course. She knew the glass would sing when a finger glided water along the rim. But, of course, the point of all of these exercises was that Daisy wasn’t allowed to touch the items.
They were grateful Jemma had made them put on safety glasses as each goblet shattered. Over and over.
“It’s okay, this is why we have these,” Jemma said each time, picking up a tarp that had served as a table cloth and another off the floor, carefully wrapping up the shards of glass they contained. Each time, Jiaying added more glasses on a fresh tarp as Jemma recycled the old one.
“I’m never going to get this!” Daisy finally cried out. She couldn’t rub her eyes with the safety glasses on, but she could feel the embarrassed tears starting to burn.
“You’ve made progress today. We start again tomorrow in practice room 3.” Jiaying placed an understanding hand on Daisy’s arm before leaving her and Jemma alone.
“She’s right.” Jemma leaned against the table with the fresh goblets, arms folded. “This morning, you hadn’t even used your powers on purpose. Now, look at what you can do.” She gestured to all the completed tables of exercises.
Daisy collected herself and took in her accomplishments for the day. Another realization hit.
“It didn’t hurt.”
“Hm?” Jemma began cleaning up the tables, and Daisy joined her.
“Using my powers.” Daisy looked over her shoulder at Jemma as she poured the water from the unbroken goblets into the sink. “It didn’t hurt this time. I’m ready to fight again.”
Jemma swept up a pile of dust that Daisy had earlier, with great effort, shaped into circles on another table.
“Well, that’s up to the doctor, but I’d certainly mention that to Jiaying tomorrow. Maybe she can  clear you for training.”
-------------------------
Daisy didn’t have time for fighting this week, Jiaying informed her. Once again, Daisy felt sheepish at Jiaying’s unstated correction. This opportunity to hone her powers with the global director was a huge honor for Daisy and incredibly rare for any enhanced person, especially a cadet. Daisy wondered what new high expectations Fury and the higher-ups at Shield had for her if she was receiving this kind of one-on-one instruction with Jiaying.
Occasionally, Agent Whitley would interject with urgent business from the Shield council of directors, and Daisy would be humbled that her teacher was also the leader of the entire Program around the world. Jemma too was taking advantage of the opportunity, gathering as much information from Jiaying and data from Daisy’s training as she could. Fitz was doing the same with the others as they trained, and they would compare notes in the evenings.
“Do you see different patterns to powers in different regions?” Jemma asked one day as Jiaying corrected Daisy’s posture and arm positioning.
“It’s not patterns so much as where the need is,” Jiaying explained. “Each power fulfills a need in the world, rights a balance to the energy of the universe.”
“How did you learn all of this?” Daisy asked. It felt like an intimate question, but they were in close proximity with just the three of them all week; it seemed reasonable to want to know something about her teacher so she dared to let the personal question fly and see how it landed.
Jiaying stayed silent for a moment. “From my mother, and her parents before them, for generations.”
“Your family was Shield agents that far back?” Daisy wondered if it was common to have legacy families like her own, forgetting Shield’s founding date for a moment.
“No,” Jiaying let out a surprised laugh. “Just my parents. They left the haven where our people, powered people, had lived for generations. They were scared of and saddened by what they saw in the world after the war, so much pain and so much evil. They met Agent Carter and her husband working undercover. He wasn’t in all his red, white, and blue.” She gestured to her body to indicate she meant his superhero suit. “If they had seen him in costume, they probably wouldn’t have made such fast friends. But meeting someone else outside their village who had powers and was using them for good changed them. It gave them something to believe in. They helped Carter and Rogers with the early days of Shield, specifically the part for people like us. It wasn’t always easy, even within Shield.”
“That’s why you stay,” Jemma said, putting pieces only she had together. “You don’t just protect the program’s existence. You protect those of us in it.”
Jiaying looked away. “There are those who would use our abilities for their own selfish ends. My parents lived through horrors no one should have to experience. But they did it to serve and shield our community. So we’d never have to go through what they did.”
When she met Daisy’s eyes, Daisy read deep pain there but also deep hope. Jiaying was willing to shoulder the heavy burden of leadership and bureaucracy and legacy to carry on a duty. One she’d inherited as her birthright but also as her responsibility. Daisy felt less alone for a moment. She too knew the weight and honor of Shield family expectations.
“I’m sorry,” Daisy said meekly. It didn’t seem like enough.
“Don’t be.” Jiaying shook her head. “Be willing to protect others, and use what you’ve been given wisely. You have a gift. So do many others, in every corner of the world. Every one of us has a part to play in the balance of the world’s shield.”
Daisy and Jemma understood she didn’t just mean the organization but the metaphorical, symbolic shield of protection that they formed. Enhanced people all around the world were united by this woman and by Programs like this one to train them to use their powers for the benefit of all.
By the end of the week, Daisy could not only make water goblets sing but move mountains—or hills, at least. Jiaying and Agent Whitley took the four friends to a state park just outside the city on Saturday, and while Carol practiced flying in the open space and FitzSimmons took notes and formed theories from observing them, Daisy practiced causing small rock slides without earthquake tremors. It was all about precision and control, the breath and the focus. Sometimes it was hard to maintain her concentration with Carol’s flight attempts and Agent Whitley calling out instructions to Carol to test her aerobatic agility, but the distraction was helpful for the training as well. Jiaying reminded Daisy that in the field, there would be many more distractions and she would need to be able to work precisely, whether to dismantle a gun or take out a specific target, without destroying everything else in the area.
It took hours of flattened trees and failure, but Daisy got there. She could push a park table without touching it, even rattling it free first when it was bolted down. She could shake the chains of a basketball hoop in rhythm without cracking the backboard. And she could cause rock slides hundreds of feet away.
At the end of the day, Agent Whitley drove Jiaying and the cadets back to the Secret Warriors building where Bobbi was locking up for the evening.
“I return these cadets to you in full confidence, Agent Morse,” Jiaying said formally. “Keep up the good work with your Program and keep an eye on them.” Daisy could have sworn Jiaying winked in her direction.
Bobbi lit up at the unexpected compliment. “Thank you, Director. I certainly will.”
Seeing Bobbi’s honored reaction, Daisy realized these last few weeks had been a test for Bobbi too. She was an excellent field agent, of course. But she had taken to being an instructor like a duck to water. To have the global director’s approval in her first year was a major milestone and an honor, especially if Bobbi wanted to make it her career.
She caught Daisy observing her. “What?”
“Nothing!”
“So you’re ready to be back in the ring?” Bobbi asked. “No more pain or fractures?”
Daisy beamed and showed Bobbi her clear, healthy arms, no bruises or inflammation. “All better and ready for duty, ma’am.” She gave a quick salute with a wink.
Bobbi pursed her lips and gave a mock scrutinizing inspection to match Daisy’s teasing formality. “Carry on, then, cadets. See you Monday morning, bright and early.”
“Don’t remind us,” Fitz grumbled just as his stomach growled.
She laughed and shook her head as she left.
The four turned to each other, having succeeded at the two most intensive weeks of their training.
“Well.” Fitz clapped his hands. “Time for dinner?”
“Yes!” the girls agreed enthusiastically.
As they walked across campus to the cafeteria for dinner, Carol slung an arm around Daisy’s shoulders.
“Hey babe, have I told you you rock my world?” Carol could hardly get it out, she was already laughing at her superpower humor.
“Aw yeah?” Daisy returned. “Well, you light me on fire.”
“It’s photon energy, actually,” Carol teased.
“Whatever, shut up.” Daisy kissed her on the cheek already conveniently located next to her lips.
Jemma leaned into Fitz. “Is that what we’re like to the outside observer?”
Daisy broke in, “WORSE. You guys don’t even say it out loud anymore.”
Carol added, “Yeah, at least when you bantered out loud we knew what you were talking about. Or, heard what you were talking about, even if we didn’t understand it.”
Fitz tsked. “Nosy and cheeky.”
“You’re cheeky,” Daisy retorted, too hungry and tired to care if it made sense. “God, I could eat a whole pizza.”
“Ugh, me too,” Carol added.
“Mmm I’m thinking about a lovely burger and a pile of chips.” Jemma said it so dreamily the others laughed.
At the end of the day, no matter how much changed or what obstacles they had to conquer, they had each other to lean on, laugh with, and come home to. And after all, that’s what they were fighting for: love, hope, joy, friendship, and family.
----------------------------------
The end! Hope you have enjoyed our three-fic journey! It's been so fun joining the AoS space. I'll have more Daisy and Carol, in other "universes" and deviations from canon, soon. :)

Friends to Lovers Tournament: Round 1, Side B, Match 22
Tumblr media Tumblr media
propaganda under the cut!
Renga:
Submission 1:
bc they gay
Submission 2:
i can go into heavy detail,,, AND I WILL!!!
1. their ship name is literally a form of poetry (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Renga) and it's a type of poem written by multiple poets SO REKI AND LANGA ARE THE POETS WHO WRITE THEIR OWN POETRY TOGETHER
2. they got along almost immediately after they met, and they found their reason for living together with each other via skateboarding!!! and they're best friends because they "get" each other like nobody else does!!! LIKE THE BEST KIND OF LOVE IS THE ONE WHERE YOU'RE BEST FRIENDS WITH EACH OTHER!!!
3. langa literally says "there's no meaning to skating if i can't do it with you" to reki AND IF THAT ISN'T THE SWEETEST THING EVER!!! and reki literally studies langa's way of skating to design a skateboard that fits perfectly to his snowboarder style AND HE GETS SO EXCITED TO SHOW LANGA IT!!!
4. they have their own fist bump that forms an infinity symbol which means that their love lasts forever and it's the loviest of lovey doves ur honor <3
5. they literally have a blue (langa) x red (reki) aesthetic WHICH IS OPPOSITES ATTRACT!!! they're also the cool guy x ray of sunshine,,, cat energy x dog energy tropes. also the "rambles for hours" x "listens happily" trope.
6. THEY WAKE UP AT ASS O' CLOCK IN THE MORNING JUST TO SEE EACH OTHER BEFORE SCHOOL AND SKATE TOGETHER AND THEY SNEAK OUT OF THEIR HOUSES TO STAY OUT LATE INTO THE NIGHT AND SPEND MORE TIME WITH EACH OTHER!!!! WHAT KIND OF TEENAGERS SACRIFICE THEIR SLEEP TIME IF NOT FOR THE ONE THEY LOVE???
anyways yeah. renga. beautiful bois who deserve to be together and were made as canon as could get past the censors.
Fitzsimmons
They're so so sweet and my favorite characters of this show!!! The show starts with them as the scientists of the team who are inseparable best friends. They're already being referred to as Fitzsimmons and people joke that when hearing that they thought it was one person being referred to.At this point they aren't together yet. They went to the S.H.I.E.L.D. Academy of Science and Technology together and became friends when they were paired in chem lab. In the show there's so many times they show how much they care for each other. In one episode Simmons gets infected with an alien disease and Fitz goes into her containment area to help her find a potential way to cure it. And at the end of the first season they get locked in a medical pod in an airplane which is then dropped into the ocean and there's only one air supply and Fitz confesses his feelings for Simmons and then opens the pod and gives her the air. She pulls him to the surface and both of them live but he had some brain damage from being without oxygen. He does eventually recover and their relationship goes through lots of hardship though various intense situations out of their control like Simmons being stranded on an alien planet and Fitz working desperately to find a way to bring her back. But through all of the crazy scenarios they go through they love each other so so much and they built that love on a strong foundation of friendship. They are the most important people in each others lives even before their romance begins and I love them very much

Jemma: And don't you dare act like these last few months haven't been the highlight of your entire pasty life!
Fitz: Because I'm pretty sure that every minute of every day, you've been stuck in a lab right beside me. At the academy, at sci-ops, this plane. You've been beside me the whole damn time!

What do you mean about fate and FS and Moustead?
Hello! Thank you for falling for my lil trap!
There is so much because I'm longwinded, have fun with this I got too excited getting to put this all into words.
I've been against using "fate" as an argument for FitzSimmons, specifically, since... 2017? Yeah, that's when that half of s4 aired. I'll give you a SparkNotes version, for anyone who didn't watch Agents of SHIELD - Leo Fitz and Jemma Simmons, who I do love as a ship in the early seasons, I have nothing against the ship specifically, just the "they're fated to be together" argument. They met at the SHIELD academy when they were kids, when Jemma sat next to Fitz in a class and they became... friends? They both thought the other hated them and they were gonna be rivals, while secretly admired each other and how smart they were the whole time. Anyway, now they're married and have a daughter, which is cute as shit, good for them, this is not an anti-FitzSimmons post.
I don't think they're fated to be together.
I use the Framework-created alternate reality to make this point every time. In that reality, Ophelia is the one who sat next to Leopold, and that butterfly effects into them being in a relationship down the line. Ophelia specifically set it up to be that way, I get that, I know that's how the Framework arc worked. My username was HoldenDadcliffe across most social media for 4 years, I know what I'm talking about. But the argument could be made that Fitz would have ended up with anyone who sat next to him in class and engaged with him, whether as a friend or a presumed rival or what have you. That's the only point I want to make. It could have been anyone. In the real world, it was Jemma. In the Framework, it was Ophelia. It could have been Matt, my Bruises Verse OC, it could have been anyone. It was the situation that brought them together, not the universe. That doesn't make the relationship any less important or genuine, it's just a fact.
Anyway, I would argue that Moustead is fated to be in each other's lives, especially if we take the possibilities in Bolivia into account. Not necessarily in a romantic way, because soulmates, or whatever you want to call it, don't have to be romantic. I just think they're meant to exist in the world together, and the universe seems to be encouraging that.
For instance, in Afghanistan, Jay did make friends with Knox first. In canon. They were close, they built explosives together, had to rely on each other to survive, the whole nine yards. They were halfway around the world with only their team to count on and trust. They had to be a family to stay alive. And then Knox did everything he did, and that friendship was obviously completely ruined after that, which meant that one of Jay's most important relationships at the time was just... decimated. He had to find someone who he could actually rely on, someone who wouldn't murder civilians because he wasn't taught to handle his emotions in a healthy way.
Mouse wasn't exactly handling his emotions in a healthy way, either, but at least his poor coping mechanisms didn't have a civilian body count, you know? Like, the only person he hurts is himself? It's fine, he gets better, eventually. But the idea of the universe seeing Jay make a friend, and going "wait, no, not that one, come back here" is just so... *chef's kiss* It's just a coincidence, at that point, but there sure are a lot of coincidences, aren't there?
He gets attached to the one other person from Chicago. The one other person who survived that war zone with him. The one person who kept him sane - who he also kept sane - when they got home and had to navigate civilian life again.
They just work, you know? They balance each other out in so many ways. Jay is absolutely driven by his heart - he wants to help people, he wants to put good into the world and take bad out, he wants to fall in love and have a constant presence in his life. On the other hand, Mouse is driven by his head - he's so smart, and he uses that to learn about computers and the world around him, and he has great ideas. They both rely on those opposites so much that it hurts them. Jay holds onto relationships until they tear him apart. Mouse thinks things through so much that he had to turn to drugs to keep himself from unraveling.
They even go so far as to completely reject those opposites in themselves. If Jay used his head, he'd know to let go of relationships and connections long before they hurt him the way the do. If Mouse used his heart, he'd be less untethered, he'd have more connections to his Chicago life than just Jay. Of course, all of my labels for them are just headcanons, but Jay being aspec and Mouse being arospec adds to this so beautifully.
Even if it is all coincidence, that balance is so important to their relationship. If one goes too far, the other can pull them back, and they really make up one fully functional human being together. They share a braincell, for sure, and Mouse usually has it. Jay certainly didn't have it in s5, that's a fact.
I think, with Jay leaving the show - and rehashing the same speech that Mouse gave him with only slightly different wording - the universe might be pushing them together again? Obviously, canon hasn't mentioned Mouse since s4, and we're never going to know if they're actually serving their country together again, but I can pretend. I can pretend that the person Jay called his best friend is still in his life, somehow.
But especially with how s9 went, and that whole year leading up to Jay leaving for Bolivia...
Even just starting with the Knox episode, 9x03, that had to bring up memories that he hasn't thought about in a while. I'm almost certain that he came across a few pictures of Mouse while he was doing his digging, even if we didn't get to seem them on screen.
After that, I want to bring up 9x09. Lovingly, the rushed marriage episode. (I love Upstead, but their romance arc was rushed and if they, the writers, had taken the time to develop the relationship more, they could have navigated the distance much more easily, or at least put off the actual wedding until Jay made his way through his crisis and they were both in a more stable place, but that's just my opinion and not the point of this post, ignore me) I just think about that episode a lot in a Moustead context because of what made Jay panic and rush into it like that. They had to get the FBI off of Voight and Hailey, obviously, but the steps they took had to be personal to him, at least in the context of his friendship with Mouse. A young, queer-coded drug addict, who was the same age that Mouse was when they met, using him and this weakness (that Jay canonically doesn't judge, he literally gave Mouse drug money in s1) and holding that over his brother as leverage, it's... He saw the lowest point of his best friend's life right in front of his face, something that he couldn't fix before and can't fix now, and Jay...
Jay, who just wants to help people, and put some more good into the world, and fix things because he hasn't had much control in his life and now he's older and stronger and he can do something. He used this intimate knowledge he has of people in that situation for his own personal gain, in a way, and doesn't that make him feel so dirty? But he can't think about it too hard, because he's not the one who uses his head. Mouse is his head, the one who would have actually said out loud how stupid and reckless and horrible that idea was and how they shouldn't do it. Because it was exploiting a literal child, who didn't do anything wrong beyond giving into vices. But Jay... Jay is the heart. He finds someone he cares about and he holds on so tight. And he was already engaged to Hailey, so what's the harm in moving the wedding up?
He'd already lost the person he'd been thinking about for months, and it's not like he could just call and ask Mouse to come back to Chicago, not after how things ended. But he could hold onto the people he loved who were close. He could turn an engagement into a marriage. He could insert himself further into Voight's bullshit. He could cement himself in the team and focus on what he had, not what he missed.
Then there was Adam's undercover thing, and the overdose, and even if November 2011, specifically, is from my headcanons, how many times did Jay worry? How many times did he text or call or pop by to make sure that Mouse was high but not in danger? How much did he check in after Mouse's multiple felonies and other petty crimes and make sure he was okay and alive? How many times did Jay have to worry, over their 10+ year friendship, that he'd lost someone he cares about so much?
And then there's s10, with his exit, and that entire episode doing the exact same thing to me, emotionally. 10x03, my beloved, my ride or die, my defining moment... A veteran is doing his best, getting pulled into crime just to pull himself afloat, getting hurt and getting himself killed through that. Isn't that something Jay has seen before? Just with a less tragic finale? Of course he helped clear up the guy's record, so that his family could still get the benefits, and all of that wasn't done for nothing. And then...
He left. He went back to the army, however loosely, basically quoted Mouse's reasons for why - because how else would he explain it? The logic is sound, of course it is, the head handles the logic. Jay just followed the logic laid out for him six years earlier, when his heart finally caught up with it.
And the idea that they somehow ended up in the same area again? Working together and rekindling their friendship now that they're finally on the same page? What else could that be?
It's fate.

Has anyone considered an Agents of SHIELD Old Guard AU?
Proposition :
Quynh as Coulson: they thought they lost her, but then they got her back, only... something isn't quite right.
Andy as May: the grizzled vet with the tragic past, kicks ten kinds of ass, long history with QuynhCoulson that becomes romantic (but it's an AU, so why wait so long if we don't have to)
Nile as Skye aka Daisy: the new kid who turns out to be more capable than anyone expected
Booker as Ward: the mentor, the traitor. Possible to ship with AndyMay and/or NileDaisy depending on your tastes, but neither one will go well because he is so deeply damaged (and a traitor). Could be given a redemption arc, because the point is not to recreate the original storyline exactly.
Nicky and Joe as FitzSimmons: do I even have to explain? Their history at SHIELD Academy can easily be written as rivals or enemies to lovers to make it more kaysanova.
Copley as Nick Fury: hear me out, it's not because they're both Black men, it's because both of them really believed that in spite of whatever moral compromises they were making, ultimately they were doing good. And then they realized they'd been manipulated into doing the work of evil men.
Merrick, Keane, and Kozak are of course all HYDRA.
And what the hell, Lykon as Eric Koenig: minor character, one of the good guys, dies early to establish how high the stakes are (but we've still got Sam and Billy to look forward to...)
This is mostly based on the first season of the show; it could be adapted for later seasons, like having Copley in the Director Mace role instead of Fury. There are lots of options.
I can't imagine ever writing this myself, but if anyone else wants to take it and run with it, you're welcome to.

Summary: Forced to take refuge at her mother's house with the team, Melinda May has to deal with her famous mother and with her colleagues' antics, while finding the secret of healing a broken soul.
Sneak peek:
The world may have seemed to have tilt on its axis lately but Melinda May knew she could always count on her mother to have her back. Not that the older woman would be happy about it, not so soon after asking her to drive hundreds miles to pick her daughter in the middle of nowhere. But she would do it anyway.
That's how the whole 'team Bus', as the younger agents had dubbed the remainder of the original team, was standing in Lian May's living room. Safe hideouts were still rare after the Hydra debacle. Fortunately her mother's paranoia made her house the most secure location they could reach, since the Bus had been damaged during the last mission. The plan was to regroup, make the necessary repairs and plan their next move.
But that probably would have to wait until the rest of the team would stop looking so wide-eyed about everything in the house, her mother included.
And her mother seemed to be the center of everyone's attention. Not only was she interesting because she was Agent Melinda May's mother—thankfully no-one was calling her the Cavalry—but also because, apparently, Agent Lian May, CIA, was a legend even outside of her own agency.
Yes, Melinda was the Phoenix's daughter.
She didn't know when the name had first come up, but it had stuck. However she knew why it had stuck. Agent Lian May had been famous for disappearing during risky missions, so risky she had been supposed dead many times until she would have reappeared suddenly, mostly healthy. Sometimes she would even have faked her death, leaving both her enemies and her colleagues —and even her family— certain that she had been gone for good this time. Until she would have turned up at Langley for debriefing.
After that, it was no wonder that people had started comparing her to a mythical creature able to be reborn from its ashes, again and again.
Fitzsimmons were babbling stories they had heard at the Academy, a wide-eyed Skye was listening with rapt attention, her mother was muttering in Mandarin about how the stories became more and more ridiculous with time, and Coulson—well, Coulson had a twinkle in his eyes that meant trouble. He waited until there was a lull in the conversation to address Lian directly.
Melinda didn't know how her best friend could be such an incredible, talented agent and somehow would end up putting his foot in his mouth when talking to her mother.
"You know, I'm kind of a phoenix too now."
Lian looked him up and down critically. "You look more like a zombie."

bus kids / fitzskimmons headcanons :) !
im avoiding my work so 🫡
daisy
she/they ; nonbinary & bisexual
ocd, adhd, ptsd
because of how frequently she moved around different foster homes and neglect from st. agnes, she didn’t get any formal diagnoses until she joined shield
she and matt were friends at st. agnes, and they still keep in touch; she even stayed at his apartment for a day or two after lincoln’s death
she has extreme trypanophobia (phobia of needles) after repeated trauma involving them (getting nearly-fatal amounts of her blood drawn for hive, the devil complex, getting her blood drawn again by kasius; that’s all i remember off the top of my head but there’s probably more)
she also doesn’t do well in medical settings for those reasons, and especially after the devil complex or malick kidnapping her
jemma
she/her ; bisexual ; trans woman bc t4t fitzsimmons is soooo <3333 (and even better, t4t4t fitzskimmons bc my transgenderification beam knows no bounds)
she has ptsd and ocd & is autistic
jemma got a ptsd diagnosis from andrew after maveth
illness became a huge ocd trigger for her after the whole situation with the chitauri virus
she can’t handle anything with swimming after having to save fitz from the atlantic
she had a HUGE crush on skye in s1, and her, daisy, and fitz all bonded over their collective crush on bobbi in s2
fitz
he/him ; bisexual ; trans man
(besides his canon disabilities) he has adhd and he’s autistic. sooo real of him
him and jemma swapped wardrobes at the academy bc they transitioned around the same time (not my hc!! got it from a fic but i adopted it into my brain bc i love it sm :D)
he has a collection of rubix cubes, and can solve basically any of them in under 30 seconds. he tried to teach jemma but it just didn’t stick, but he was very successful in teaching daisy
feel free to reblog with additions!! :)

Hello friends, in honor of the 3 year anniversary of these precious souls getting their happily ever after and us as a fandom collectively screaming
Tumblr media
I've decided to share some FS head cannons as a both an ode to my ultimate OTP, and something to slowly ease my way back into Tumblr chaos posts, because and I'm sorry mutuals, I've been in some unhinged pits these past few months as so enamored I forgot to share it with you.
So, with our further ado, Jemma's ultimate Fitzsimmons head cannons! The best 3 for 3 Fitzsimmons endgame celebrated years!
Fitzsimmons now own a castle they bought with Deke's billions, oh right, they also have Deke's billions because fuck you I said so. If you are wondering where this will be, well Perthshire of course, and if you're wondering, is there a castle in Perthshire Scotland? Well yes, yes there are. Many, I've been to three and stayed at a hotel in the fourth, Perthshire is a county of castles, and Fitzsimmons will own one for their children.
That brings me to head cannon two, yes they have more than just our pride and joy the princess of all love and happiness, Alya names-after-the-star-she-was-born-in Fitzsimmons herself. I like to think Fitzsimmons have two more children, a son and a second daughter. The son will be named Lincoln Deke Fitzsimmons (Let's not dwell on naming the grandchild's uncle after the grandchild). And the daughter will be names Sky Melinda Fitzsimmons. Oh and Alya's full name is Alya Daisy Fitzsimmons, yes they name both heir daughters after Daisy, no it's not too much. And also, yes the children will have the last name Fitzsimmons, and every fucking member of the team, will gush over it every time they visit.
Now finally, for the third and most chaotic head cannon. Fitzsimmons are chaotic visiting faculty at the New SHIELD Academy. That's right these darlings teach the bright young future of SHIELD, and they do it Fitzsimmons style with unhinged story time, impromptu visits from Bobbi and Hunter, and of course, their genius children popping from time to time to show up the twenty something PHD graduates, because yes, I swear Alya at six could probably stare down Tony Stark in a mental battle and tie (I have some limits). This teaching style is extremely popular and the entire SHIELD Academy loves them.
There we have it folks my three favorite Fitzsimmons head cannons in honor of the 3 year anniversary of our internal joy as Fitzsimmons shippers. Have fun celebrating this glorious day my lovely fellow Fitzsimmons worshippers!

Reveal - Ch. 8: Shift
Tumblr media
Summary: An unexpected visitor starts Daisy and her friends on the path to their future. But first, they have to earn it.
Read on Ao3
Just as Phil got out the ice cream, the doorbell rang. It sat there on the counter, melting, as the Johnson family’s lives turned upside down.
------
“Not yet,” Phil said steadily to the agents at the door. “We were supposed to have more time.”
“We don’t have more time.” Bobbi Morse stepped into the porch light. “Hey, Daisy.”
Daisy waved from behind her parents. “What’s up?”
Bobbi exchanged wordless communication with Melinda. Something was going on and Daisy didn’t like how nervous it made her parents.
Melinda settled her shoulders, putting on a calm but serious demeanor. “It’s time. Remember your training. Whatever happens, remember everything we’ve said tonight.”
Daisy’s heart raced. She looked to her dad for assurance that this was just a normal school thing. His eyes were too full of emotion, however, and he had to swallow it down before speaking.
“You’ve always been special, my sky, and so strong. No matter what, we love you so much. And we believe in you. You’ve got this.” He gave her a little hint of a smile.
Bobbi held out her hand to Daisy but spoke to Melinda and Phil. “We’ll call you in when it’s time.”
Daisy stepped out onto the porch and followed Bobbi, trusting her mentor wholeheartedly. Still, it unsettled her that no one was telling her what was going on. She turned back to her parents, but they urged her forward. Bobbi’s hand lightly touched her back, steering her toward a familiar black standard-issue Shield SUV.
As ominous as this was, being practically abducted at night with no information, she lit up when she climbed inside.
Carol was there with a manic grin. “It’s finally happening!”
“What’s happening?!” Daisy demanded. “No one’s telling me anything!”
Carol rolled her eyes. “You’ve said it all along and now falling short at the finish, Johnson? Powers! We’re getting our powers!” She grabbed Daisy’s hands and squeezed like they were going on a surprise trip to Disney World.
“Mooorse!” Daisy shouted to the front seat. Bobbi was giving instructions to a transportation agent Daisy didn’t recognize. “Are you serious?”
Bobbi turned around and grinned to match Carol’s. “You’re not supposed to know that. It ruins the fun. This is an initiation ritual, kid. You’re supposed to be confused, in embarrassing pajamas, and praying that we’re not about to make you swim an icy river or steal an academy heirloom.”
“You’ve been watching too many sorority movies.” Daisy folded her arms.
“Uh no, I lived it. I got a normal biology degree before coming to Carter, remember?” The SUV pulled out of the Johnsons’ driveway, and Bobbi faced the road again. “Compared to sorority initiation, getting superpowers will be a walk in the park.”
Carol raised her eyebrows. “See?”
Daisy relaxed into her seat but held tightly to Carol’s hand. They had seen the machine. She’d held it in her hands. But no one would say what it was really like to use or what it did exactly to a person. She decided to wait with her barrage of questions. Presumptively, getting those answers was the point of this little hazing bit.
Carol changed the subject before they arrived at the next cadet’s house.
“So, how did it go tonight?” she squeezed Daisy’s hand.
Daisy relaxed a bit at the foundation Carol provided her and at the memory of her parents’ acceptance. “Really, really well. I’ll tell you more later, but they’ve basically adopted you. Hope that’s okay.”
Carol laughed. “More than. But besides me, they were totally cool with you…?”
“Yeah,” Daisy hesitated, trying to say it in a way that wouldn’t rub it in. “They not only understood but apparently had been waiting for me to tell them for a long time. And for us to get together. It was painfully obvious, according to them and they were, and I quote, glad they didn’t have to keep it a secret anymore.” Daisy raised an eyebrow and Carol returned it.
“We’re not very good spies yet,” Carol confirmed.
“Nope.” Daisy laughed and then added softly. “And did you text yours?”
Carol rolled her eyes. “Uh, yes, and they hope I find a nice man someday.”
“Hold on! You told them I’m your girlfriend and they said…”
“Yup.” Carol popped the “p” and shrugged.
“Damn, that’s messed up. I’m so sorry.” Daisy resisted the urge to take Carol’s phone and yell at her mom. Instead, she stroked her thumb over Carol’s.
“Hey,” Carol brightened, “on the bright side, at least we don’t have to fight over whose house to go to for Thanksgiving!”
Daisy couldn’t help but bark out a laugh at the unexpected humor, though she knew Carol was playing it way too cool. When they had a moment to themselves next, whenever that would be, they could unpack it more fully. For now, she let it go and focused on the road ahead, literally and figuratively.
They picked up more cadets along the way, all from the Secret Warriors program. As the cadets and Bobbi disembarked from one SUV and the Program’s often-absent executive director, Agent Gordon, and his cadets disembarked from another, and another agent, Gordon’s assistant, with more cadets from another, Daisy noted that Jemma and Fitz, however, were nowhere to be found.
“Hey.” Daisy caught up with Bobbi as they walked from the parking garage to the Secret Warriors building. “FitzSimmons were at a conference. Are they back?”
“Not yet,” Bobbi answered cryptically. Knowing that Daisy wasn’t going to back down that easily, she added. “They are on a slightly different path. The conference is part of their initiation into their roles in the Program. Don’t worry. They’ll be back for the main event.”
Bobbi unlocked the door once they were all assembled and handed them each a VR headset as they went in. “Don’t put these on until you’re seated.”
Giant bean bags sat in the middle of the gym along with papasan chairs and a few small sofas and chairs.
“What you’re about to feel with these connected…” Bobbi held up a headset “...is going to hurt. It’s training, but on a level you’ve never experienced before. My job is to get you mentally ready for a transformation in your life. Every cell in your body will be altered. That includes how you think and feel and perceive the world around you. If that’s too vague for you, sorry. That’s all we can know until you emerge on the other side.”
A hesitant cadet began to raise a hand but quickly lowered it when Bobbi stopped in front of him.
“When I say we can’t know, I mean it’s impossible. No one knows your powers until you show or tell them. They might change your appearance. They might be difficult to control. But there’s no test to determine it beforehand. If you choose to become a Secret Warrior, you do so no matter the outcome.”
The giddy excitement faded as the seriousness of this decision sunk in. They’d been warned all along the way. But now it felt more real.

My Fitzsimmons headcanons that nobody asked for
Okay, I would just like to state that this is my first time writing long posts like this, so it’s definitely not aesthetic and stuff, but I tried alright 😭 These headcanons are mostly about Alya tbh (and her relationship with Owen) because she’s definitely one of my favourite characters.
1. Jemma is a horrible driver. She got her license after moving to Perthshire by some miracle, but she only drives when it’s an emergency and Alya isn’t with her. The last time she borrowed Fitz’s car, she got three speeding tickets in one day.
2. They don’t want Alya to skip too many grades so that she can have some sort of social life, but they agree to let her skip two years after a lot of begging from the little girl.
3. Alya gets an offer to study at Coulson academy when she’s only 13, despite not having any PHDs or degrees, but it’s an easy offer to pass.
4. Daisy visits them ALL the time. Coulson sometimes jokes that she only returns to Earth to see Alya. She always rolls her eyes, and goes to stay with him and May for a while after.
5. Owen Shaw turns out to be Bobbi and Hunter’s kid. They change their names after the Romanian police puts them on the most wanted list, and move to Scotland- because they know Fitzsimmons live there.
-Fitz facepalms when he finds out. But he’s less devastated once he agrees that atleast it’s Hunter and Bobbi’s kid that his little star ends up with.
-They obviously introduce her to Owen when she’s still very young, and Jemma tries to ‘give them hints’ countless times throughout the course of their friendship. Alya’s smart, though, and figures out that something is up. Her parents tell her the truth not too long after that.
6. Alya and Owen turn out to be best friends, and when they’re young- they decide to ignore everything their parents said about their future altogether, pretending they never even heard.
7. When she was 13, Alya once put hot pink streaks in her hair after looking at old photos of her Aunt Daisy. It looked so bad that she had to cut off a part of her hair only two days in. That’s the last time she ever experiments with her hair.
8. Daisy and Jemma call each other sisters barely a year after their last mission, with Jemma often saying that her sibling is out of town when Daisy’s back in space.
9. When Alya is 16, Daisy finally convinces her to cut herself some bangs- after the younger girl confides to her that it’s something she’s always wanted to do. Fitz almost bans her from visiting Alya completely, but Daisy just coolly replies that she has to ‘be the cool aunt somehow, Fitzy! Honestly!’
10. Alya goes through countless relationships in the course of her high school years, even going through a ‘heartbreaker' phase when she’s around 15. Her and Owen become distant too after some time, but they find their way back to each other.
11. Jemma starts working as a biology teacher in a school nearby when Alya also starts going to school regularly. Fitz joins as a consultant for S.H.I.E.L.D. 4 years after, agreeing to go by a fake name and after assurance that there would be no stored records of his help.
12. Alya and Owen finally decide to try dating each other when she’s 22, and he’s a little over 21. They date each other for five years... after that; they get married.
-They have a son after two years of marriage, and name him Deke after Alya’s parents convince her that he was an old friend who helped them out during their S.H.I.E.L.D. days.
-Alya, to this day, doesn’t know what her mother meant when she told her father ‘now you’ll have to deal with him all over again’ when Deke was born, to which her father only groaned (but she could see him smiling).

Fandom Mama! Long time no ask. I am seeing stuff on Twitter about Chloe/Daisy being in Secret Invasion that I thought you would be best to ask you. Is she in it?
Hi Anon,
To my knowledge, NO, Chloe/Daisy will not be in Secret Invasion, she said as much in a recently interview. And before anyone yells at me, yes I know very well Marvel has NDA's, actors have lied, and and hides things all the time. But I still don't think we will see here, there is just no indication that the story or the MCU is going into Inhumans/Secret Warriors right now. And usually there is something, somewhere, that has leaked from set, just a little to hint of that surprise. I have heard none of those rumblings.
I wholly own I could be wrong on this one. I know there are people out there that are very confident she will show up. I've been on that I will die on this hill confident about a theory over the years too. I've hit and missed over the years, but like my overall track record on the whole theorizing and predicting things. For me the fun was in the predicting, research, discussions, asks, and metas.
I am not on the die on this hill with Daisy being in Secret Invasion.
Will I enjoy it if she doesn't show up, you bet! I'm so excited for this one.
Will I enjoy it if she does show up, you bet! I'm so excited for this one.
It will be really nice to watch a who can you trust kind of show and not be petrified about it and its fallout like I was during AOS.
If IF, Daisy does appear in Secret Invasion I can not emphasize enough that IT WILL NOT BE THE SAME DAISY WE KNOW AND LOVE FROM AOS.
I've well established in many asks that thanks to the time loop AOS is off in a whole other branch of the timeline about a forest away from where the MCU is now. And the show was running years behind where Endgame would up. So our, Deke's and whatever many time streams they spun off via the loops and making waves in the Season 7 timeline is off in their own happy little worlds. Fitzsimmons have HEA in Perthshire (they will pry that from my cold dead hands), Robo Coulson is off seeing the world, May is running the Academy, Mack is the Director, Elena is the top Agent with Piper and Robo Davis, and Daisy is an Astro Ambassador with Sousa and Kora (again you will take that from my cold dead hands).
If Daisy shows up she will have a completely new backstory that will fit with what the writers of Secret Invasion needed. No team family, different origin story, no Sousa, different attitude and personality, heck a different take on her powers could happen. We saw in Season 7 how changes to the timeline, big and small, could impact things down the line. Then there was the fresh take we got on Ghost Rider on the show, completely different than the one we'd seen on screen years ago. Robbie's story was adjusted to fit the AOS 4a storyline.
Robbie is also proof AOS is way off in its own timeline thanks to the Darkhold.
At this point I think its best for everyone to just settle in for the ride. Unless we get an ABC intern level of finale photo leak, rip rando intern we love you, we are likely not to get any confirmation either way until the show actually airs.
Its totally cool to hope for it if you want it. While its totally cool to be against it if you don't. And its fine to be in the middle and just be along for the ride like I am. As usual have fun with the theorizing and Manage Expectations. Please...don't make me dig through my blog for that post again.

(let me know if you want to hear more about this au!! i’m not a fanfic writer, but if anyone wants to try to write something feel free with credit!!)

the academy of royalty is attended my many royals across many kingdoms. the school is strictly for royalty until the academy’s headmaster philip coulson held a contest among the villagers across all kingdoms to see if anyone could past the difficult entrance exam. only one child passed, jemma simmons, a young villager from the kingdom of the highlands. for passing, jemma is invited to attend the academy of royalty as a student. she will then have to navigate being the first non-royal student the academy has ever had.
