I know absolutely no one is gonna give a shit about this, but I'm listening to the audio books for the Matched trilogy, which I haven't read since middle school.
I remember liking the books, but I don't remember much from them. What I DO remember is picturing Ky NOT being white. After all, he's described as having darker skin and black hair. So, listening to this, this is who I envisioned:

So imagine my surprise when I look Ky Markham up to see how other people see him AND ALL I SEE ARE WHITE MEN 😭
Like, even as a middle schooler, Ky was NEVER white in my head. So, looking at the picture used on fandom wiki:

Was honeslty a big shock for me. Now don't get it twisted, I'm not saying there's anything wrong with Ky being widely believed to be white, I'm just saying that I was so surprised that it seems I was the only one who pictured him that way.
Anyhow, in my head all I can see is Micheal Cimino as Ky, and Maitreyi Ramakrishnan as Cassia now.

Okay, Not As Bad As That First Time
Years ago when dystopian was the it genre, I tried reading Matched only to go into a reading slump so I had to put off reading it. However, I knew deep down I always wanted to know what the deal with this trilogy was about, so it remained on my TBR despite me DNF-ing it. Let me just tell you, if you read Matched along with the other better dystopian novels, you are going to dislike this book. But, if you haven't read a dystopian novel in a long time, giving Matched a chance might just surprise you. Like me, I thought I was going to hate this book based on my first experience with it. Shockingly, it wasn't as bad as I remembered it to be.
Back when Matched was first published, the hype around it was the genre and it was constantly being promoted as a dystopian romance novel. If you've read the synopsis, you would see that it has always been promoted as a romance novel. I'm just saying, don't be fooled by it. Although romance is a big part of what's driving the plot for Matched, but there's so much more behind all the romance marketing going on. I mean, this is firstly a dystopian book before it's a romance book.
That being said, I could care less about the romance here. It's your very typical earlier 2010 love triangle, very, very typical. Really, it was the history of the world in Matched that was truly enticing. I still have many questions regarding this book but like every other dystopian book published during the genre's hype, do we get much questions answered if the book is not a standalone novel? They mostly only get deeper into the world building (or its history) in the sequel, so I am hoping they get answered as I go into the other two books.

Matched by Ally Condie is a book (and series) that a friend recommended to me several years ago. I remember her stopping by the circulation desk at the university library to chat with me and she had just finished the trilogy and said it was one she thought I would like.
Well, here we are, almost seven years later, and I finally started the trilogy!
In this first book, we’re introduced to The Society and it’s various citizens, focusing on Cassia Reyes, Ky Markham, and Xander Carrow, a trio of seventeen-year-olds who are getting ready to enter the adult world. Cassia and Xander are matched together for marriage, something that will not take place until they turn twenty-one, but Cassia is also matched with Ky as a government experiment to see how someone who is an Abberation will pair up and fall in love with someone “normal.” Cassia is torn between her best friend who will keep her in the confines of her comfort zone and the boy she truly falls in love with and wishes she could be with instead.
This book was a nice, airy read for me, something I don’t usually say about futuristic books like this. But, compared to some of the books I’ve been reading the last several months, it was a nice change of pace. It did leave off with a little bit of a cliff-hanger, enough to get me to want to read the next book (which will most likely happen later this month).

Okay hear me out
Ive been truly obsessed with the Matched trilogy and while of course I ship Ky & Cassia I think my OTP is Indie & Xander even though they haven't even met but she is in love with him??? She was never allowed to fall in love and she has fallen in love with her friend's match, truly believing that if she weren't an Aberration she would've been matched with him like. Thats so cute?? I feel like Im going to be sadly disappointed by the end of Reached (what im currently reading) but holy shit ky or cassia has to introduce them at some point so she can get all fLUSTERY AND NERVOUS AND STUFF AND XANDER WOULD BE SO LOST AND CONFUSED AND I THINK IW OULD JUST BAWL
