JJ's tragism

Feminism unrelated again (sorry) The more OBX I'm watching the more I realize the tragism of JJ's character, like he's straight out of Sophocles' drama. JJ causes katharsis (in literature context, no psychology). It seems like whatever he does, he does wrong, like that's just his fate. There's no good option for him.

Idk if any of you have read Oedipus Rex, but in summary, king Oedipus had his written fate written down: he'll kill his father and marry his mother. And he unconciously did it, which then pulled series of consequences behind him, resulting in few deaths. The thing is that Oedipus couldn't do anything about it, at it was the tragism of his character.

JJ has his fate also somehow written down, his introduction in pilot indicates it. He has a badge on him in the way none of the pogues have and he unconsciously confirms it. He just can't seem to get out the spiral of bad decisions and bad events in his life. That's what so tragic yet... humanly about his character.
