I broke my dominant index finger a little while back, and though I was making good progress with it, I recently strained it again and set my healing back a fair amount. As such, I've decided to employ the traditional magical operation I know as 'Wresting the Thread'.
The process entails using a cord of undyed black wool to tie 9 enchanted knots, each of which captures the power of a particular healing prayer that is recited 9 times. That cord is then used to wrap and treat the injured extremity, and when the healing is done, the cord is burned.
Along with the basic traditional framework I learned, I also imbued the wool cord with the virtues of Medicus Oil (an empowered oil of sorcerous remediation,) and called upon the auspices of fixed star Rasalhague, which has shown itself, over the course of my work, to be a powerful ally in matters of health and mending.

Hearth Craft: Death in the Household
This past Saturday, December 2nd, my husband and I had to put our dog to sleep. In order to not lose my mind, I'm going to ramble a bit about death in the tradition I practice. I'll go more into the spiritual concept of home later, but suffice to say home is considered a living spiritual-emotional entity comprised of the members of a household, and that we consider pets to be part of that entity.
First and foremost, in my tradition, death is not viewed as something dirty or polluting. While we obviously don't look forward to members of the household dying, we understand that death comes to everyone, so it isn't something to be feared. When someone dies, we don't rush to cleanse the house because that could chase away their spirit. Many spiritual cleansing methods are hostile to spirits of all varieties, and newly incorporeal spirits are especially susceptible.
We also don't physically clean the house until we either have confirmation that their spirit has returned, or until we have their remains back. [It's worth noting that my mom's family, where I learned this, are all cremation people. We don't bury our dead.] We do basic things, like keeping up with the dishes, but we try to leave the house as much like it was when the person died as possible. That way it's familiar to them. We also don't want to accidentally compromise something they're using as a tether. A tether is something that a small, insentient part of their spirit is tied to so that they can find their way home. My dog's tether was easy to figure out: her collars. Other people's tethers may not be immediately obvious, so we don't get rid of anything.
In my experience, after someone dies, their spirit goes away for a while. I mean, if I suddenly lost my Earthly body and got to go wherever I wanted, I would absolutely go exploring. We believe that's a large part of why people feel so exhausted when a member of the household dies - they aren't in the house to receive their offerings, so they're drawing all of their energy from household members. Because of that, it is super important that household members take care of themselves! You need to eat, to rest, to stay hydrated; not just for yourself, but for the loved one who has passed. Your community, if you have one, will bring you food for this very reason.
Some household members return really quickly, and that's especially true for pets. My dog probably doesn't know what the Grand Canyon is, so she doesn't much care about going to see it. She does, however, know exactly what her bed is, and she cares a whole lot about seeing it. My dog returned the very night of her passing - my husband and I both heard the distinctive jingle of her collar tags the next morning while we were waking up. (Her physical collars were on the other side of the house, sitting on a table, with nothing to move them.)
When someone's spirit returns, you need to be ready for them. We left my dog's food and water bowls filled. Her kennel door is open, her bedding is still inside. We left her spot on the couch clear so that she can sit on it. For a human, you may want to put out their favorite book so that they can easily read it, make coffee for them in the morning, keep their slippers on the side of the bed. Anything to make sure they know they are still welcome.
In our practice, someone doesn't stop being a member of the household when they die. They transition to being more on the spiritual side of things, of course, and as time goes on they tend to become less sentient. If someone chooses to fully move on, whatever that means for them/you, then what they leave behind is fully insentient energy that is just tied into the home energy. Their conscious spirit goes on to the next stage, but they usually leave something with you.

Beginner Class - Personal Values & Moral Compass
Personal Values & Moral Compass
___
By KB
Tumblr media
Introduction
Hello again everyone! ♡ It’s so nice to be able to meet with you all again! Today starts the second chapter for the Beginner Study Class! We’re going to start getting to all of the stuff I know you’re eager to learn, but first, there’s a few fundamentals we have to cover. Today’s lesson will bust a few myths and misconceptions, as well as give you a bit of insight on what - and what not - to do when practicing your craft! You may be surprised what’s in store for you! Let’s get to it, shall we?
Building Your Ethical & Moral Compass
Ethics are VERY important to me, and if I am going to be teaching anybody, I would like to lay down a few stepping stones towards a very ethical practice. Now, this post may be a bit more biased than the rest, so please take everything here with a grain of salt. Everyone’s personal values & moral compass will look different, and that’s perfectly okay!
While I am not Wiccan by ANY means, I do favor the term “do as ye will ''. It is YOUR practice. You get to decide how you interact with your energy and the energy around you. However, it is important to be conscious of those around us in the process. This basically boils down to respect. You must respect other’s craft as you do your own. You don’t take your own practice lightly, why should you with anyone else? We all know what it feels like to have someone screaming “YOU’RE WRONG” all while shoving their personal beliefs down your throat. That’s not cool, and it wouldn’t be very cool if you were to act out in that manner either.
You must always strive for the truth. Witchcraft & science go hand in hand. You must dissect information & attempt experiments in order to find any fragment of the truth. You must be willing to shed the layers of your mind in order to grow. Are you prepared? Let’s go through a few together.
Myths & Misconceptions
♡ The Three-Fold Law/Rule of 3
We’ve all been warned, “whatever you put out into the universe comes back to you times three”, or something along those lines at the least. While yes, this may very well be true for some of you, it is NOT a universal law. This is typically coming from a Wiccan, Christian, (or other indoctrinated religion), or a fear-ruled thought process. While there is nothing wrong with believing in this, the problem shows when you try to push these beliefs on others. I, personally, don’t believe in the three-fold as bad things happen to very good people all the time, and vice versa. Believe what you wish, but understand not everyone shares those same beliefs.
♡ You Need To Buy Witchcraft Supplies
Aht! Aht! Aht! Negatory, comrade. All you need to perform magic is an energy source. Your backyard can most likely supply you with everything you’d need to perform ritual work. While the tools are nice to have, they are only that - tools. You don’t need to spend money on crystals, or herbs, or anything like that, especially when just starting out. Don’t fall into people’s traps of spending a bunch of money on stuff you don’t even really know how to use or work with. If you DO decide to purchase items for your craft, find a reputable seller. Most of these won’t charge you an arm & a leg for basic supplies.
♡ “Good” Magic vs “Bad” Magic
White/Black, Light/Dark, Benevolent/Malicious - whatever you call it, throw it away. A very fundamental thing to understand when building a respectable moral compass in your craft is that there is NO such thing as this! “Good” and “bad” are very subjectable terms and everyone’s definition will MOST likely differ. I could turn this into an entire ethical lesson, but I’d rather let you feel it out for yourself. Reject these labels and know in your heart that magic, at its fundamental, is neutral. It is the practitioner that molds that magic.
♡ Smudging Isn’t Witchcraft
Smudging is not a witchcraft thing at all. It is a CLOSED indigenous practice. Why is it closed? Read here. I’m going to bring my medical analogy back up - would you really want just a random Joe performing open heart surgery on you? Yeah… I didn’t think so. But - what about all the herb burning and wafting you see portrayed in ANYTHING witchcraft related? Well, it goes back to an ancient Gaelic tradition called “saining” which in Old Gaelic means “blessing” or “consecrating”. We can infer that this is an old tradition of smoke cleansing, which has been confused with the term smudging for far too long. It is important to your ethics to understand where & why these traditions and terms come about. This is just one example, but the list goes on. Research is important! Always ask why!
♡ You Can’t Work Against Free Will
You absolutely can! While it may not align with your personal ethics & values, you can altar free will. While everyone is different, and some are divinely protected so it would essentially be impossible to altar them, there are a lot of misconceptions to this. Don’t allow fear mongering to limit you. Again, pushing beliefs on others is wrong.

Finally fulfilled my months long guinea pig magic hyperfixation (plus learning Spanish) and ordered some guinea pig charms online.

Tried translating the soap and it protects against all problems in your life. Can help your depression, bad luck, bad spirits, all forms of sadness. Fights against black magic, evil spells and witchcraft.
The powder I'm not sure what it does but seems to help with cranky kids and adults? I'm still learning so can't really tell.
I can finally bless myself with these guinea pig items

Chicken Foot & How There Really Used.
Tumblr media
Chickens are often seen scraping, kicking, scratching at the ground which appear to be that their sweeping or cleaning. In the traditional magic a chicken is a powerful symbol of purification. In Vodou it is use to cleanse a person, and can be used to heal.
For centuries, dried chicken feet have been used as a charm for protection against evil. When hung in a doorway, to protect your home, or hung on the car mirror. Just seeing the foot hanging from a mirror of your car would stop someone from steeling it.
But the truth it's does not protect you from evil may that be malicious spirits or even demonic. It doesn't bring good luck either I mean was it good luck for the rabbit when we take it's foot. NO.. so why would it be good for the chicken. Chickens are gentle creature in nurture. They protect, they defend against those who try to hurt it, and that's what it would do for you protect.. it's a symbol of spirit work. It will help you fight back.
So what it does this mean, protection for you from negative energy, negative influences that a spirit my leave behind or send towards you.
It can also protect you from a hotfoot spell sent to you because hot foot is just bad energy right similar to the evil eye. Now I'm mentioning hexing also because the foot can be used with a doll to scratch back at your enemies. The chicken foot I use is this one.
Tumblr media
It is purple and black with same colored feathers with the evil eye on it. Now you don't need to have a colored one or even a decorated one if you don't want to but there still cool to look at.
Start: once you have your foot you need to activate it. I use cigar smoke and sage to cleanse the negative energies from it a little Holy water and a prayer to St Michael. Then some holy oil or protection oil on it.
Use: To spiritually cleanse your body, take your chicken foot and make a scratching motion about one inch from your skin, starting at the top of your head, working your way down to your feet. Give your feet extra attention by working the chicken foot back and forth from heel to toe.
If you prefer to do or add you can also try the egg cleansing useing the same motion from top to bottom.. that's a old tradition that works.
When working with anything in nature like animals you must understand what it can do.
Contact me for any questions you may have..

Some scholars believe horns symbolized great spiritual wisdom and divinity. Even Moses, most likely due to a mistranslation, was once depicted with horns.

Hey, uh... Pennsylvania Dutch magical traditions are closed, and anyone who isn't explicitly connected to them through family/initiation should NOT be claiming to be practitioners of Braucherei or any associated Germanic Pow-wow tradition.
You are literally breaking cultural and spiritual taboos by identifying with the Pennsylvania Dutch for any reason other than being directly connected to those traditions.
