Gustholomule: spoilers for For the Future

So we saw Matty again, got lots of him interacting with Gus and Gus friends, and we learn about three new things about him

Spoilers below

1.) He is actually a real good Leader/planer/strategist when he works at it. Wow. Well the planing thing I guess we did have some proof. His take over of the HAS was really well planed, and adapted, especially for a 13 year old who was in a completely new environment and didn’t know any allies/have friends who he knew for a fact would take his side.

Still on a note. I said in my Gus Appreciation post that the HAS club was Gus (unintentionally) at his worst. That he said he created it so he could “build a place were everybody had a voice” but if you look at the way he ran his club (only he brought things in, only he could touch things, he made himself a crown, and referred to voting as “anarchy’,) it seems more like he wanted to create a place where he was in charge of older kids and they had to listen to him. I also said that I believed leaving the club was necessary for Gus’s maturity, and that Mattholomule would be just as immature and unfair a leader as Gus. Just as surprising to me as Matt having such good ideas and plans for “New Hexsides” refuge camp, is seeing that he crossed out some of Gus’s more unfair rules and made the club more inclusive towards all members. I misjudged you Matty. Your a good club President. But you know Gus better now, you’ve seen that Gus has matured and become more considerate since. Please let him back in as a subordinate member.

2.) Matty is a dramatic AF who used a (easily smudging) marker to draw facial hair on himself, tried to get people to call him Man-Tholomule (buddy no one will ever call you that), and used a bad “dramatic twist “ theater line in the big fight when addressing a robot. HAHAHA

3.) The Big one... His name is actually Matt Tholomule. All those times when the fandom asked “ Why does he have such a weird first name?”, “How did his parents come up with it?”, “His Brother is named Steve. IS Steve short for something weird? How do you get one child with a name like “Steve” and then the next is named “Mattholomule”. Times I have personally searched his name on Tumblr and thought “ at least him having such a made up first name makes searching a character without a last name much easier”. (Note I have the same thoughts on Skara’s name. Is her full name going to turn out to be Skar A?).

But back to the matter at hand, here is one more reason, besides fan’s questions on the difference of the half brothers names, besides this meaning that the ship name Gustholomule is actually Gus’s first name attached to Matt’s last name. Even besides what that one genius poster pointed out about how Matt always calls Gus “Au-Gus-Tus” with the syllables spaced out and suggested that that was Matt trying to give Gus a really cryptic, unhelpful, hint to try putting more space in his name.

No it’s also funny because of this picture on Gus’s wall.

Matt has a party hat, so we know this was a birthday. Matt being the one in front, the one sitting down, and the absence of Willow and Luz implies that this is Matt’s birthday, and Gus is visiting his house to help celebrate it. Let’s think about that for a moment.

Did Matt’s cake not have “Happy Birthday Matt” written on it? Or if it did did Matt say/Gus think that it just said Matt because Mattholomule would take to mch room? There was nowhere in the house where Matt’s name was written out correctly and nothing saying “Tholomule Family” on it? Neither of Matt’s parents introduced themselves to Gus as “Mr./Mrs. Tholomule”? No confusion was expressed by one of them as to why Gus called their son by his full name? If Steve was able to be there he never pulled Gus to the side and said “Hey FYI Tholomule is actually our last name. My brother’s first name is just Matt.”? Going over all of that, I can only assume that Matt told is family about his little prank before inviting Gus over, and they all played along. Which would mean that the entire Tholomule family are devious, prankster, gremlins, not just Matt. This is a fact that I feel needs to be acknowledged.

Oh lastly while we are on the subject of Matt’s family this name thing just makes me think more that Mason, the construction head, is the Steve & Matt’s father and shared parent. Matt was running his father’s booth in “Covention Day” while Mason outfitted new members with construction seals. The only reason I can think of as to why such a young, inexperienced, and unsigled, witch-let would be representing a coven subgroup at such a big event: he was helping his parent. Then Mason came back before the Emperor’s coven show, because Matt wanted to attend and to try and see Steve. The reason Mason’s last name was not on the coven list, was because if we saw Mason Tholomule it would have spoiled the joke to early.

You know what’s really cool? The fact that Matt refers to Steve as just his regular older brother in season 2 ep 5.

Doesn’t call him half-brother or anything. Just “my older brother”

Alright but imagine like. A director’s cut for S2 of TOH, with new episodes inserted between pre-existing ones in order to not disrupt the continuity, while also filling in certain gaps, fleshing things out a bit more, etc. Such as s2e19.5, providing more context to Hunter meeting up with Darius after Labyrinth Runners!

Each of these ‘lost episodes’ introduces one of the four coven heads who never got named onscreen; Vitimir, Hettie Cutburn, Osran, and Mason (the characters done most dirty by the shortening imo, they didn’t even get names or voices). The scenes with the Coven Heads in King’s Tide are extended to include more dialogue and input from all of them, so it feels more like a natural culmination of the nine characters coming together, rather than just the five. If the Snyder cut of Justice League can exist...!

And we can throw in other plot threads, character arcs and interactions, and lore bits that the show had to leave out, too! So stuff like Steve and Mattholomule being half-brothers, the Galdorstones, the Bat Queen’s past, etc. Provide additional buildup and foreshadowing for stuff that might not have necessarily needed it, but it’s still nice; Like for example, Steve realizing he’s unhappy after seeing the strain in his relationship with Mattholomule, prompting his moment of self-discovery with King; Or an Emira arc, with a brief scene where she considers cutting her hair to embrace her own chosen identity, something she eventually does at the end of the show!

hello! i am currently in progress of writing an empires owl house au fic, and i am currently in the planning stage! ive decided to show this off to the hellsite because why not

spoilers to the owl house under the cut so dont read this if u havent finished

the plot will be similar to the main series, with some tweaks and extra adventures to add something to it and not just make it a nameswap fic

the characters!

shelby - luz - 15, lives with her gran (camila noceda character)

katherine - amity - 15 and in the plant track at hexside,

gem - eda - the deer lady

sausage - basically just king but he can speak spanish because gem has some spanish books from the human realm

jimmy - willow - healing track, younger but more mature brother to lizzie, romantic interest is scott

lizzie - gus - oracle (and later potions) track, jimmy's older yet less mature sister, tries scamming people occasionally

mattholomule - joel - construction, rivals with jimmy, tries to help with new hexside during the collector's reign, but joey shuts him down.

emperor xornoth - belos - formerly a full human, now half demonic with the palisman curse, who was transported to the boiling isles with his older twin brother, scott. scott found love in a witch in the isles and xornoth murdered scott after finding out

the golden guard, scott - a grimwalker of the original older twin of xornoth, about the age of 16

fwhip - lilith - the older twin brother to gem, cursed her when they were children so he could enter the emperors coven. is the head of the emperors coven. attains half of gem's curse at the end of arc 1, where he becomes a

pearl - raine - beastkeeping coven head, gem's (former) best friend

joey - boscha - oracle (and later beastkeeping) track, katherine's friend(?)

pix - oracle coven head - a part of the rebellion

false - construction coven head - a part of the rebellion

(false and pix take the place of darius and eber, but would have vastly different personalities and motives from the original characters)

oli - steve - bard oriented emperors coven member who doesnt care anymore, is tasked with scott a lot on missions

i have another post in which i am asking for some help on the cast, but if any of yall have ideas, i will gladly take suggestions for chapters in this series! hopefully i can fully flesh out the story, otherwise i might just do one shots, but nonetheless i hope you enjoyed the idea!

(also all of my posts will have the "owl house empires au" tag so hopefully you can find them easily)

edit: new idea from @litteralflower17: gonna have the original xornoth and scott go by cohnal and alinar when they originally come to the boiling isles (like how philip went by belos and named caleb's clones hunter) so the original brothers would be cohnal major (sounds silly but whatever) and alinar major

Yeah, I guess he is. Man. They don't have as big an age gap as Evelyn and the other coven heads, since Matt and Gus are a few years younger than the other coven heads. But yeah.

Palisman headcannons 2: Because I still Think about These Little Guys

There are 8 palismans in this picture. Only one of them (Flapjack) found a good home in hunting Palismans. They all deserve good homes. Staring at them now though I can think of 7 good witches who don’t have palismans yet and who I could see bonding to these little guys

the little bell sprout thing: Pre-”Hunting Palisman” I was sure that this was going to be Willow’s palisman, simply because it was a plant. But when the Bat Queen explained how palisman bond to witches, and we saw Clover go to Willow, and it made a lot of sense. So who would connect with this little plant? Darius! He doesn’t have a palisman, and might not want an animal one since animals like to run around, tear up things, and make a mess. But a plant palisman wouldn’t do that. This little plant probably just wants a nice sunny place to relax and look beautiful; just like Darius

Bell Goose: Originally thought this would be Gus’s (silly and loud) but his little Chameleon is a much better fit for him, an birds are a Clawthorne thing. So who is a Clawthorne (or will be one once they marry their love) who does not have a plaisman? Also, who cares about music and being heard enough to form a tight bond with a bird that carries around a musical instrument. I cannot think of a better bird for Raine Whispers.

Spider Pig: Spider Pig is an unusual animal, part livestock part creepy crawly, and also they appear to be the most beat up of these poor palisman. So they might need special care for their scars and helping them trust again. Livestock, Creepy crawlies, and animals that have been scarred are all animal types we have seen Eberwolf work with. Plus Eberwolf is small and so is Spider Pig so that works because Eber would have an easier time carrying and running around with the little critter.

Mew Cat: So I was right in my guess that Amity’s palisman would be a cat. Wrong in that instead of her adopting Mew Cat she either adopted or carved Ghost at a later time. Ghost and her get along well though, and given Mew Cat’s injuries they probably need someone with a bit more experience taking care of frightened people, and is a little more used to mystery and unpredictability, becaue those elements will inevitably come with it. That can still be a Blight though. Emira Blight doesn’t have a palisman yet. Emira come get Mew Cat

Spiky Porcupine Dog thing (updated): When I first saw this thing I thought of Mattholomule, but I have been thinking about it more and more and I think he might be better match for Edric Blight. My reasons are 1.) I am kinda giving the Blight children bigger paliceman because they seem to deal with some...pretty high-maintenance magic. This will be particlarly true for Edric who is now taking 3 complicayed track tracks. 2.) The more I look at spikes the more I see the same hyper curiosity I see in Ed. Imagine Spike having roles in illusionary shows, hearding other beasts, and running to get potion ingrediance or Emia and Amity when Ed gets a really foolish idea. In conclusion Spike goes to Ed because they could make a dream team.

little hermit crab thing (updated): At first I was going to give this funny little guy to Edric... But after 1.) Learning a bit more about Hermit crabs, and 2.) thinking more about bonds and metaphors I have decided this little guy would actually be better for Mattholomule. Mattholomule’s whole arc is how his magic wasn’t strong at first, he was treated badly for that at his old school, then he came to Hexside and tried to do the same to others, only to realize becoming his bullies didn’t work and finally deciding to be better. Something like that on the Physical scale probably happened to this little Hermit crab. I could see Matty fining it, lettting it crawl on his arm and saying to it “You were a loser in your old life weren’t you? It’s okay so was I, but I am improving”. Then a bond is struck.... Also Hermy would make a really cute playmate for Emmy and the next one.

I have no idea what the purple thing is: I am going to headcannon that Steve adopts it. Steve gets sad when he recounts how Belos confiscated palisman from recruits for the Emperor’s coven. Some people picked up on this and pointed out how it sounds like he may have once had a palisman buddy before, but he was tricked/forced to give it to Belos who later killed it. Steve has been changing though (he is great now) and would no doubt do a better job of keeping a new one safe this time around.

Look I know we are probably do not have time to see any of these witches get palisman, and will most likely never see any of these orphan palisman again. But these little palisman deserve good homes and if Disney cutting the owl house short means Dana won’t have time to do it, then I am going to here. She has said she likes how creative and fun fans ideas can be, so I am going to take that as permission. All these parings happen until the show proves me other wise

For some angsty reason, Steve becomes the legal guardian of his half-brother Mattholomule.

“Your parents are gone.”

The words cut into Steve’s bones. He was supposed to be in class, studying for his upcoming exam. Instead, he sat in Principal Bump’s office, with the principal’s eyes full of pity. “How?” he creaked out.

An accident. His stepmother had slipped and lost control of her spell, deadly when it came to Construction witches, and had been buried. The dominos fell and his mama and several others died too.

“Steve?” Mattholomule was poking his head in. His baby brother looked confused, which ached. He was supposed to be with the other little kids, learning runes. He walked in, grabbing his hand and giving it a squeeze. “What happened?”

Bump sighed, eyes welling up with tears. Steve’s throat ached with a question. “Do you two have any family?” He grabbed a raven. “I can call-”

Steve shook his head. “I- I got it.” he managed out. “May we-?”

“Of course.”

That night was rough.

Mattholomule had run upstairs the moment Steve told him. Steve had ordered food to be delivered, but his half-brother hadn’t come out when he gone and knocked. Steve was alone at the kitchen table, staring at the sudden vastness.

He was alone. They both were.

Their parents had completely finished paying the mortgage and had a huge nest egg in the bank, which was a relief. But sooner or later, that money would begin to run out. Steve was only thirteen. He shouldn’t have been dealing with this so soon.

...there was a option.

He pulled the brochure close, opened it, and began to read about the benefits of joining the Emperor’s Coven.

The only way I can explain the owl house family tree to my friends is like this:

Eda has a sister named Lilith.

Lilith doesn’t have kids but she is the cool aunt

Eda has three kids King the titan, Luz the human, and Hooty the house worm.

Eda is in a relationship with Raine.

King, Luz, and Hooty aren’t Raine’s kids but Raine and Eda have kids that they call formerly the batts now the catts.

That does not include Steve he is the uncle but Steve does have a half brother named Mattholomule who might end up with Gus but idk.

Luz has a brother named Hunter and a sister named Vee.

Now Vee isn’t Raine or Eda’s kids Vee is Luz’s other mom Camila’s adopted daughter.

Hunter isn’t Raine, Eda, or Camila’s kids his dad is Darius.

Darius also has Eberwolf that is more like another parental figure to Hunter.

Luz and Hunter also have friends named Gus and Willow.

Amity is Luz’s girlfriend and Amity’s dad Alador might be Darius’s new husband.

Hunter’s ex parental figure is also dead-ish.

King has a new “buddy” named the collector but the collector isn’t related to anyone.

Amity also has two older twin siblings named Edric and Emira.

Amity, Edric, and Emira’s mom and dad aren’t together anymore because she is abusive and she is the worst.

I think that’s all I don’t know if I missed anyone.

Just an itty bitty Steve angst HC for y’all because like…

We know he has a younger half brother, right? And we know that brother happens to be Mattholomule.

So I (and @sound-under-the-sea ) were thinking, wouldn’t it just be plain awful if their parents didn’t survive the Day of Unity*?

Imagine poor, broken Matt being led out of Hexside with the rest of the students (where they’d been taken to watch the proceedings) after the DOU ends. All his classmates are clinging to their friends and Matt looks around for Gus but oh Titan, he can’t find him. He can’t find him anywhere. Witches rush in from the palace to meet them, take them somewhere far away and hidden from the reach of this new child-god.

There, his classmates are reunited with their families. One by one, parents and grandparents and siblings alike all rush to embrace their loved ones. And Mattholomule waits and waits, but no parents come to find him.

Eventually, he slips away and makes his way to Titan’s Head, where he finds hundreds of witches doing their best to pick up the pieces. He wanders around, demanding to know what’s happened and who’s in charge, until someone finally points him towards the ruins of the palace and tells him that the rebel group who’d tried to stop the Day Of Unity has taken the lead.

He runs up and bursts onto the dais, where a group of witches about the age of his parents are huddled around a table, deep in discussion over maps and charts depicting distribution of resources. A dark-haired woman who he vaguely recognizes from various posters and propaganda glances up and starts at the sight of him. It’s obvious that she knows his face. She runs to him, checks him over, then grabs him by the hand and drags him off, weaving in and out of the crowd until-

He spots a young man crouching in the distance,with reddish-brown hair and a singular horn poking up from his forehead. The woman shouts his brother’s name, but Mattholomule doesn’t bother. Instead, he wrenches his arm free of the woman’s grasp and sprints to Steve, who catches him in a bone-crushing hug. Matt buries his face in his jacket and sobs, and Steve squeezes him even tighter in a protective embrace.

He feels a tear slip down his brother’s cheek into his hair and looks up. To his surprise, Steve’s eyes are red-rimmed from crying, clearly having been doing so long before Matt arrived.

There’s a sinking feeling in the pit of his stomach as he realizes. His parents hadn’t come to get him. Why hadn’t they come to get him?

He tries to tilt his head to see around his brother, but Steve shakes his head and pulls him back against him. “Don’t,” he whispers, cradling Matt’s head against him. “Don’t look, Matty. Don’t look.”

*I’m going off the assumption that some, like Eda with her curse, simply didn’t survive the Day Of Unity due to preexisting health conditions or age, which made them just not strong enough to make it through the draining spell. Also, the Collector caused a lot of chaos, which probably caused some destruction and injuries/fatalities.
