Spring Water Collector

Each week or so i look forward to visiting a local spring, where water flows out of an old pipe in the side of a hill, under a road, into a stone basin and out down into the fields. There are many springs in the Malvern Hills area, some flowing fast and clean, some barely dripping, presumably due to not being looked after over the years. But this one is a favourite as it's surrounded by trees that tower over you while collecting water. At night, when there are very few cars it is really quiet and I am often serenaded by owls hooting.

The benefits of local spring water in this area are well documented going back through the years, and i can see why - the taste is clean and pure with no additives. Today i decided to bring along my binaural microphone rig to sit alongside the spring and take in the sounds while i collected water.

Can I be honest? I’m a big fan of the idea that while yes tails is a genius but he still does things that like normal kids his age would do

Like sure the kid can build a plane but sometimes there’s days where he just wants to stay in and draw or play a game

The kid could genuinely take down someone twice his size but at the same time he goes to bed with a stuffed animal and still gets tucked in

The kid makes bombs and weapons but at the same time if he gets overwhelmed he likes to just make bracelets or paperstars or just any of those random kits you get.

He had literally saved the world multiple times but he’ll just want to lay on the couch and watch whatever cartoons are on.

I genuinely wish there was more stuff about tails just being a kid because I LOVE IT when that happens it’s my favourite thing

I dont have time to really do it justice but I had a dream that Sonic The Hedgehog movie 3 came out and Shadow had long quills with green highlights and blue/purple lowlights vaguely like this

#the whole dream was just me watching and every time he was on screen i was like oh fuck yes. oh HELL yes. this owns #i dont remember ANYTHING about the plot #atm i have a very clear image of shadow looming ominously on the Arc in front of a space window so the lighting is all dramatic #with this hair. and like light blue light from the tech below. its a very pretty image in my brain but i dont have time :(#dream journal #sonic

Early May Moorland Field Trip [Dryburn Moor Night sounds]

Day one / Mon 2nd It's early May 2022 and i'm heading due north from the midlands for a few days of recording in and around the North Pennine moors.

I arrive at my location at 2330 after leaving home at 1800ish with one stop at Tebay services for a coffee and some food. The last leg of the journey was from Penrith across and over the North Pennines towards Allendale, and unsurprisingly it was very dark, windy and ascending; although quite spectacular in its increasing remoteness. After setting up kit and prepping the back of van for sleep and food and living in it for a few days it was later than i'd hoped, meaning not a lot of sleep was to be had, but it's often difficult to sleep after focussing on driving for 5 hours, especially with the anticipation of a new location and soundscape to be recorded!

The plan recording wise was to capture wild soundscapes from a binaural dummy head perspective using a pair of DPA 6060 miniature mics. I also had an alternative backup Rycote blimp with a spaced pair of DPA 4060s and a black stealthy wind jammer, to use if the wind picks up... (Which is likely!)

Day Two / Tues 3rd Mornings of recording sessions are like a kind of military routine - I was up at 0300h/3am and on the Moor by half past. Of course, having thoroughly thought through the pattern of tasks required so that I would be fully prepared and ready to record with minimum fuss!

When I arrived just a few hours earlier under darkness with my only knowledge of the area coming from the study of aerial maps, at ground level it was very much new territory and being a bog moorland and very dark I would have to be careful with my footing. Following a solid track, I make my way down a hill from the small road, gradually banking back up until I see the vague silhouette of what I assumed was one of the two old (and tall) lime chimneys. On approach I realised I was correct, thankfully. Although not knowing exactly where to set up my microphones I see the top of the other chimney so carefully and quietly continue on.

The Quiet

Its incredibly quiet, but there is sound starting to build already: the odd gurgle of red grouse and distant descending calls of curlew, was that a Snipe... I know I can't hang about here deliberating, I need to set and go as soon as possible! This is difficult but with what little information on I have gathered on my surroundings in this dark place, I position the mic stand and go hunker down. My presence did not go unnoticed, with the start of curlew alarming... but this thankfully calmed back down quite quickly; back to the sparse quiet of the nighttime moor.

It's difficult to describe the level of quiet that these moorland areas possess. Hours can pass with no human derived sounds being heard, so no engines or signs of nearby life. There are people living around here, but there's a lot of wild space. This, in theory makes it ideal for wildlife soundscape recording. I say in theory because the moorland terrain is extremely exposed, there are no trees and so nothing to block the winds and often brutal weather systems bellowing over the Pennines. All I can do is hope the wind doesn't pick up too much during my short visit...

After sitting and listening for a few hours the dark of night surrenders to the early morning light allowing for an incredible clear sunrise. And while the recording conditions may not have been perfect, moments like this are special.

Sonic Frontiers: The Review

I normally fucking hate sonic, in fact I have a sonic plushie that I regularly attack and shred with my many teeth when my wife gives me diarrhea from her shitass cooking. However, upon booting up Sonic Frontiers, it took approximately 4.3 seconds longer than usual before I snapped and lunged at my already heavily damaged plush sonic, delighting at the fear in his quivering little eyes as I gripped him around the neck with both hands until my knuckles turned white, breathing wetly through my gritted teeth until flecks of saliva were being propelled at his pitiful face, absorbing into the fabric like his many stockpiled traumas.

an additional delay of 4.3 seconds between booting up the game and attacking my Sonic introduces a very crucial concept: This game does something right.

After calming down and guzzling my many medicated calm-down-capsules, I sat back to drink in more of Sonic Team's """hard work""", revelling in the art team's bold decision to make the game look frighteningly like real life. The first area, Kronos island, with its almost disgusting resemblance to the grassy alpine plains of the planet we walk on, broke my perception of reality to such a degree that I tore the disc from the console with my bare hands and crushed it into dust from some sort of primal fear awoken in me.

After purchasing another copy of the game, I gradually grew to accept its visual style. Before long, I had trained myself to violently squeeze my sonic plush instead of destroying the game disc whenever the realism of the grass really started to upset me. The enormous robots Sonic has to fight to progress through the game almost pushed me to my breaking point, as my ceaseless nightmares about a robot uprising occurring within our near future immediately forced themselves to the forefront of my mind. 8 panic attacks and 79 bottles of hard liquor later, I was ready to continue playing.

The boss you will eventually run into, Andrew the Hedgehog, only appears after collecting all 446 eggman statues. (Eggman is absent in the game aside from these collectible statues.)

In order to damage him, you need to target each of his 4 large quills and yank them until he has a mental breakdown, weeping silently on the grass and begging to be left alone. This reminded me of all the times I've kicked people's dogs REALLY HARD with studded doc Martens on my peaceful afternoon walks whenever the smell of the breeze really begins to max out my anger stat. (video game reference)

After that, The credits began to roll.

This is the shortest Sonic the hedgehog game in recent memory, taking only 900 hours to beat. (7509 hours if you're going for all the collectibles). most of your time with this game will be spent gathering Eggman Statues, or watching the now iconic (and incredibly memeworthy ) 34 hour long cutscene where Sonic struggles to butter a piece of toast in his decaying apartment shortly after divorcing tails. I woulve managed to absorb the emotional weight of this scene, if at the 14 hour mark my wife hadn't brought me an abhorrent bowl of soup that caused me to vomit my guts out and weep on the carpet, semi-paralysed from the abdominal pain. I barely had the energy to throw our cat at her head like I normally do.

I was totally overloaded with emotions as the credits washed over me. I glanced over at my sonic plush, his stuffing spilling out onto the floor. He had a look in his eyes that seemed like "please... no more..." Which I of course took as an invitation to skewer his head on the iron fence outside and incinerate him with a blowtorch for all my neighbours to watch.

FINAL SCORE: 9.9/10

Is your style based on anything else in particular? What inspired you to draw? (big fan btw!!!)

I can't say I had a particular style in mind when i first started drawing digitally! I think I could have been like subconsciously influenced by the Call of Duty emblem editors since they involve a similar process of layering colored shapes.. I was bad at line art so i tried lineless! And my wife inspired me to draw! She started off posting art here on Tumblr and I saw how cool it was to share art and have a little community of people who like it.. I also used to be a big fan of Vinny Vinesauce back in 2014-2017 or so, so my first art post was a Vineshroom and Korok in sort of an angular lineless style.. Wanted to be a part of a community of people who enjoy the same content and show my appreciation, just like today and the furry community i have been adopted into! Kind of a long answer but thanks for asking! There's probably more to it than that but that's what i managed to word for now !
