Have you ever worried that something bad will happen to you or that you would receive karma if you hurt an animal?
There is no such thing as Karma.
But I am well-aware that my risk of being bitten by dog would increase tremendously if I were to spend my free time kicking dogs.
Also, I suspect the majority of people would react in distaste to such a behaviour which would therefore result in social repercussions.
We life in a world were actions have consequences without the need for luck or fate.

my job has a loyalty card program. we sell hemp and thc products. some people dont like the info we take for the program (first name, last name, email, phone, bday) and today the boss told us that zips and gender are now required while signing people up. And i felt so unnaturally enraged.... like... idk man. tf?
what do you get from that? whats the point? the options are male and female. thats it.
im female presenting and dont give a shit what pronouns people use for me. but most people care, right?
i have several customers who go by they/them and i cant in good conscious pick male or female. the thought makes me sick

Still working on Beetrix and her backstory. My main train of thought is what if Solo Movie but different?
So the classic: orphaned on Corellia, grew up scrounging around the junkyards, longingly watching the ships take off. Graffitying the alley walls… (“stormpoopers was a big hit with the other 9 year olds…”)
Ages out of the orphanage. She speculates she stayed there so long because the elderly Twi’lek woman running the place priced her too high (“and she refused to sell to brothels… probably the only good thing you could say about her”).
Then bam, Galactic Civil War. She enlists, but for the Rebellion. She’s young, idealistic and really wants to kick Imperial ass. For the first time in her life, she feels her life has meaning (she has friends and a purpose, who could ask for more?)
Then it ends and all she has to show for it are a medal (“They were handing ‘em out like candy…”) and some nightmares.
More bullet point type things:
-Her first kiss was with a Chiss boy when she was a teen. They barely spoke, but she would steal extra food for him (“he was too big to sneak around.”) and he would help her carry the extra heavy scrap. He was sold to a mining company on Mustafar (“I’m not surprised, he was built like an ox. The night before he left, he asked if I could be his first kiss. I said yes. I never told him he was my first too.”)
-Never actually learned how to fly (“It was wartime! I learned on the fly, ha.”) Is surprisingly good for someone who doesn’t know the names of the switches she’s flipping. (“The Rebellion was held together with gumtack and a whole lotta hope, they weren’t sending any of us to flight school.”)
-Once, during a particularly heated skirmish, she crashed her X-Wing, but came out unscathed. The rival Tie Fighter she shot out of the sky was not so lucky. She pulled the pilot out of the burning wreckage. It haunts the pilot to this day
(“Why’d you save me?”
“You asked for help.”
“But I was your enemy.”
“Not in that moment. You weren’t an Imperial soldier then, you were just… frightened. Like me.”
“I would’ve let you burn.”
“I know.”
“…”
“That’s why I’m better than you. : P”)

you know what boils my blood.
over the last 2 weeks, i've seen countless patients walk into my urgent care center, symptomatic for so many things, refusing to get tested for covid and flu, citing that they don't want to knowingly bring it to their holiday tables. i had a patient tell me, verbatim, "i don't want to test for covid, because i don't want to be the asshole who brings it on a plane."
i understand that - i understand that holidays are times where people look forward to meeting loved ones that they might only see once a year, or where they get a break from the hectic back and forth of their lives.
but here's the thing - whether they get tested or not, they will bring whatever they have to their holiday tables. it's pure recklessness to know that you're sick, and walk into someone else's house spreading the disease.
today, january 2, i saw 91 patients, many of them who have tested positive for covid and flu. many of these patients are the same ones who didn't want testing 3 days ago, until their events were over, and now, they will have to reach out to everyone they know to let them know that they were positive because they were showing symptoms well before their event.
the next week or two? we're going to see many, many more, all people with symptoms that started around christmas. these are the only two viruses we test for rapidly in our office, but they are potent and can be fatal in many people.
so here's why i wrote this post, and maybe it's a little late, but - if you care about your loved ones, please get tested if you know you're sick. it doesn't have to be at a clinic if you don't want it to, because the over-the-counter tests work just fine too (if you test within 5-7 days of symptom onset). just...please don't try to run from the knowledge that you might have covid, because immunocompromised people, elderly people, people with co-morbidities like asthma, pregnancy, diabetes, etc...many of them may not recover. and they may not be sitting at your holiday table in the future because of it.
