They pointed a gun at Aaron. When there was a self immolation in December, the authorities spoke about it as if it was a form of antisemitism.
I have said it before. I will say it again.
It is an act of despair and feeling like nothing else you can do will be heard. Nobody burns themselves alive out of hatred.
Nobody.
I truly believe it was an act of grief. it was an act of fury. but i want to stress that it was not an act of hopelessness. like i said before, it was not just suicide, it was a calculated political act made by a determined man of sound mind and body who decided to use his death to send a message. he burned himself in front of the embassy in uniform because he knew that in the eyes of the US government, his life was worth more than the lives of Palestinians. His death was a deliberate attempt to call attention to the deaths of the thousands upon thousands of innocent people in Gaza. the point is that every death an inhumane brutal unconscionable horrific end to a real human life. the point is to disturb. the point is to be seen and heard and felt. he died screaming for Palestine.
like i said in another post, I took a class violent and nonviolent protests as an undergrad, and we talked a LOT about self immolation, and the work / thought / motives / grief / anger that goes into something like that. I’m gonna link a few articles if anyone is interested, I know it’s a really heavy subject but I also think its important to understand the role the act of self immolation has played in the history of protest:
this is about religious activists (both quakers and buddhists) who self immolated in protest of the Vietnam War
this is about the terminology we use to talk about self-immolation (specifically about the self immolation of tibetans in Protest of Chinese occupation) and about the objectives of political self immolators
and lastly, i am telling EVERYONE to read Weird John Brown: Divine Violence and the Limits of Ethics by Ted A. Smith. it’s not about self immolation, but it is about the use of violence in systemic oppression and resistance and deals with the question of Who Defines What Violence Is (spoiler alert: the state defines what violence is, and the definition will always stretch to include the actions of the resistance and exclude the actions of the state). it is a really in depth and succinct examinations of the mechanisms of state sanctioned violence, and its HUGELY relevant to everything that’s been happening. PLEASE read it. everybody should read it. i don’t have a link to a pdf but im sure you can find one, or get it from a library or bookstore. it’s worth having, honestly. go read it.

you know that art collab meme where one person does the sketch, one does the lineart, one does colors, shading, etc? it'd be really cool to see artists just. do that and be like "cool I did this part, who wants to take over?"
even if someone already did lines and color and shading, you could still do your own lines. or add color to multiple people's lines. there could be dozens of versions of the same picture, all with different combinations of artists
cause I think sometimes to unwind, artists have a favorite part of the process. some of us just like to do rough messy sketches of an idea. some like to zen out doing lines but don't have the energy to think of a good subject/composition. sometimes adding shadows and glowing light is the fun part!
idk I'm not a big artists able to start trends or anything but I think it'd be cute and fun to have a tag that says "yeah feel free to add to this and pass it on (or finish it)"
like... #opencollab or something? hmm

i keep staying up late like this wondering where it all started for me.
not anything in particular i guess. just the feeling of being perpetually tired. closed off to people and stuck in a loop of trying to reach out, then failing, and trying again. i don’t think i ever really made a conscious effort though, to talk to people. to find my “community”. i think i told myself i was bad at doing it, when really it was that i just didn’t DO it. i think i’m that way with most things honestly. trying it out without actually trying. that has nothing to do with me being consistently tired though. i know that’s just depression. i just think it all kinda adds up into one big exhausting thing. i can’t really point out when it all started though. and that’s the worst part. if i knew how it began, maybe i could come up with a way to fix it. to re-do whatever it is that makes me so damn tired. then maybe i could figure out how to make an effort at things that aren’t work.

Was originally gonna send this as an ask to @skyclan-funny-name-squad but then I ended up ranting too long and decided to make my own post. Have fun with this idea, anyone who sees it.

Hey, first off I want to say thank you for taking time out of your day to answer people's questions. I'm sure you get dozens of asks and I imagine it is draining to deal with (especially the hate and insincerity, but also the many asks that are repeats/ things you don't want to discuss) the effort you give to educate is genuinely helpful and very appreciated ^^
That said, I want to ask if it's okay for white people to reblog your "inshallah Biden died tonight" post in light of you talking about white people using Arabic for a "joke." When I reblog it I don't intend for it to be a joke, I also hope and pray he dies every time I see that post, but regardless of my intent if it bothers you I'll stop/ delete my reblogs
yeah white people are okay to reblog it, dw. as long as the intent of sincerety is there then it's fine. as long as you're not doing it to joke around with the word "inshallah" then i'm okay with white/non muslim people reblogging. thank you for being considerate and asking first :)

My families 14 year old doberman, Coconut, is being put down today 😥, so here she is in her cool industrial goth leg braces
This is a very recent photo btw like last week, look how well she aged, she's such a supermodel!
She had hip dysplasia for years and it finally caught up with her, she's a tough, sweet old girl, strongest dog I've ever met

Now, I'm already a pretty liberal blocker all round, but I think I've gotten to the point in this fandom where I block people over stuff I usually didn't before. Like say:
"Wei Wuxian is stupid" Blocked
"Wei Wuxian is annoying" Blocked
"Wei Wuxian is selfish" Blocked
"Wei Wuxian is lazy" Blocked
Or stuff that's just textually or factually wrong like:
Wei Wuxian actually can't play the dizi/is terrible at music. (I just....why??? Multiple times the story tells us that he's good. The only time it was bad was because he was using a reed and intentionally playing it wrong. It literally says, point blank, that he's doing it like that on purpose.)
Everyone found Wei Wuxian annoying, childish, etc. (You're starting to sound like Jin Zixun. They hate him but sometimes people would outright defend him and his skills/character.)
Wei Wuxian was using Lan Wangji. (asgfghlkjin HUH!?)
Everyone knew Wei Wuxian had come back immediately. (They didn't. It literally took half a year for the cultivation sects to find out he had returned, and they only found out cause Jin Guangyao used information that Wei Wuxian couldn't possibly have known- Subian sealing itself. Lan Wangji found out because Wei Wuxian played the song that he didn't know Lan Wangji wrote. Jiang Cheng found out because he happened to be there when Wei Wuxian's cynophobia caused him to panic. Lan Xichen sort of knew because Lan Wangji would only bring Wei Wuxian to the Cloud Recesses. And Nie Hauisang is the reason he's back in the first place. Literally everyone found out by chance/a headshaker's planning.)

Gentle reminder - reblog!
Hi everyone!
Not sure if you've been keeping up with all the changes that keep happening on tumblr, but every single time this website and company is acquired by someone new, they try their best to turn it into another facebook, or instagram, or tiktok, or whatever the cool new social media platform is. It's a fundamental misunderstanding of how this platform works and the benefit of the anonymity and workings of the unique algorithm. But every single time, they've tried. First when yahoo got it, then when it went to verizon, and then when they sold it to automattic. Now with the death of tumblr live, they're trying to do another rebrand.
Tumblr is one of the few remaining online spaces where we get the opportunity to truly curate our online space, and share and experience things in a way that can't be capitalised on. The concept of a tumblr influencer doesn't exist, because there's no advantage of it, there's no benefit of being an 'influencer'. But the only way we can keep this website around, is to keep using it as the way it was originally intended, in the way that other websites have not worked.
Likes on tumblr are not the same as likes on instagram or youtube, they don't really do anything! They don't help the creator, they don't help promote the post itself in any meaningful way, it's just a way to safekeep it for yourself later. And while that's a totally valid reason to want to like something, just as a reminder of something and a way to revisit a post later in the future, I would highly encourage everyone to try and reblog things as well!! Whether it's art of your favourite ship, whether it's a gifset of your favourite onscreen couple, whether it's a meta around a certain show, or whether it's discussions of the latest major current news event, the only way to truly circulate it and create a positive impact is by reblogging! The more people that get to see any given post, the better.
As an example, KOSA is becoming a thing again, and we're all being encouraged to act against it. I wouldn't have found out about KOSA if someone I follow hadn't reblogged it first, and then i reblogged it again. KOSA is one thing that could impact our online experience DRASTICALLY, and it's imperative that we spread the word about it - forewarned is forearmed, and only when we know about it can we take action against it, right?
I'm not saying this to try and promote this blog at all. I won't lie and say a few more reblogs on this blog here and there wouldn't be nice, but frankly at the end of the day my blog contributes little to nothing to the larger fandom discourse in the grand scheme of things. I'm saying this for everyone else out there. If you want tumblr to survive and thrive as our internet experience continues to evolve in the coming decade, keep using it as much as you can! Reblog anything and everything you can! Your one singular reblog can have a butterfly effect on a post. When you just like, the movement of the post stops there.
And tying into my blog (sorry lads, i'm only human and have to make it a little relevant for me as well 😭), if there's one type of post on the website you encounter anywhere that I strongly recommend you reblog, it's a poll. A poll only serves it's function if it reaches people who can actually vote on it, and we can only get a true reflection of the views of the masses when the most number of people get to participate in it. That's democracy, babey!
Anyways, that's my biannual rant. Back to your regularly scheduled programming, and see you in 6 months for the next big rant!
