#No Conformation To This World
Costly Adjustment To This World
Firstly, to be happy, adjust to the social norm. Hopefully, that is the popular notion, but it will not hold up under examination. Hence, this norm to which we must adjust, where did it come from? What Moses brought it down from what mount? Where are its credentials? From whence its authority? Nevertheless, since the world insists that I adjust to its beliefs, its moral standards and its…

it is funny that some women will be like 'i have to wear makeup and impractical feminine clothing and shave my legs because of Society' and they will say this to a woman who does not wear makeup or impractical feminine clothing or shave their legs and has clearly somehow survived so like. what now

being “different” is a lifetime of people telling that they hate me without trying to understand me. being “different” is very isolating until i find community with other “different” people and realize my experiences are not that exceptionally strange, that other people can relate to me and i can relate to them. there is power in realizing that we’re not as alone as we think, because we can’t be excluded anymore by those who want us powerless. being “different” is realizing i’m not that different and i’m not alone and i’m not powerless. it’s being arm in arm with someone and telling the world you can hate us all you want, but we’re not going anywhere.

Imagine being 9 years old and asking your dad about the things you're interested in doing when you grow up and he's like "No ❤️! But you can get married, have babies, and then maybe your sons can do those things ☺️🫶 "
#arya stark#one of those /wtf Ned/ moments#then people act like she invented misogyny cause she was like /uuuhhhhh no thanks that's not me/#/Arya is masculine/ and she's literally just a child who has interests outside of her patriarchy-assigned role#the way people read this and then demonize Arya for not silently conforming like people expect her to...#that's the ingrained misogyny from being socialized in a patriarchal society speaking babes 😭#cannot stress enough how Arya is just an average little girl and what makes her behavior stand out is their society's strict gender norms#her life + learning almost entirely revolves around the fact that she is being raised to be a wife and people resent her for wanting more :#she is NINE in AGoT and her parents are discussing her refinement because /In a few years she will be of an age to marry/#the way misogyny is explored in Arya's story is actually so brilliant and well-written (+ underappreciated) though#we feel the full weight of how restrictive their society is through her POV and get the experiences of lower-class women too#which is why it's so significant that George wrote her based on feminists who realized they wanted more than becoming wives/housewives#she's one of his key characters who will /change the world/ but people think he's sticking her on a boat bc she isn't feminine enough 😭#thank god he's writing the books and not any of these reductive hacks who thinks misogyny is subversive 🙏🏾#sidenote: would've loved to see this from her POV to get her feelings when he said this cause I'm sure it doesn't match Ned's perception#considering he views her main issues as being stubborn/difficult while we know about the self-esteem issues she has

i hope ruby gets a well-that’s-alright-then-style notdeath. on the one hand it will make haters mad because oh no not another companion with an impermanent end (and i like to see haters mad) on the other it would require creativity to depict this in a new way + i love all the implications i love the dark fairytale quality of these companion exits i love my un-undead schrodinger’s women

with the way the legend of ruby sunday is titled… legends aren’t usually told about living people. legends are stories of the bygone past, of an age long since over, fictionalised and overgrown with folklore like barnacles sticking to an abandoned shell. there is such a thing as a living legend, but they’re exceedingly rare. the unmistakeable raven’s call in the 73 yards teaser, the trailer’s cut to fifteen crying alone after promising to cherry he’d protect her daughter… the foreshadowing is clear as day…
Tumblr media Tumblr media
and yet. there’s one massive HOWEVER. ruby appears in s15: millie’s been spotted on set filming it. which leads me to believe — the doctor isn’t one to take the time travel route and revisit companions that in his future are genuinely dead. that would hurt too much, it would cause unnecessary trauma and could break the timeline. that must mean ruby stays alive in some way. ish. she’s alive and a legend and a mystery. girl-ballad girl-song girl-paradox

here she is, fading out.
p.s.: thesis statement on moffatgirls from the tags i left on somebody else’s post about charley pollard.. well it belongs here since it’s basically the semiotic hurricane swirling around ruby at the moment :)

#on a personal level what interests me about these characters is precisely what gets them labeled as being subject to#misogynistic writing by pop-feminist video-essayists. as an autistic girl* (*ish) however; i find female characters that#aren’t quite ‘normal people’; women who represent an idea or concept or are a puzzle to be solved or a manic pixie dream girl to be#more and in a way far more interesting than a girl-next-door-type universally relatable protagonist#they make for more nuanced stories with more symbolism and more layers of interpretation usually. why should there be realism in a#fantastical narrative? similarly i like characters that are haunting the narrative or dead before it began (big locked tomb fan if you#didn’t know) and like. not to be tvtropes but the lost lenore archetype. dead woman who spurs the hero on to recklessness or revenge.#i identify with that dead girl. the laura palmers of the world. set the story in motion without#necessarily having agency. maybe it’s something to do with my#constant background radiation of passive suicidality. in a fun whimsical way :) i would never kill myself but i don’t want to be a real#person. i want to be objectified but not necessarily in a k*nky s*xual way (that too) in a princess in a tower way#the ultimate femme fantasy innit? there’s something about it. hashtag problematic hashtag conforming to gender roles#10000 tags be upon ye#ruby sunday#millie gibson#doctor who#dw#steven moffat#clara oswald#fifteen#fifteenth doctor#twelveclara#amy pond#charley pollard#river song#donna noble#ncuti gatwa#doctor who meta#jamie.txt#haunting

I think JC is such a fascinating character bc he’s incredibly privileged and has power from both his upbringing and title as a sect leader, and yet throughout the story we can still see the way in which the social and political wheel impacts and sometimes censures him to act a specific way.
When he speaks out for WQ and WN, he’s admonished and belittled, to remind him of what the greater political world says he should believe; and he concurs by stepping back and speaking no further because no others step up as allies to add to his dissenting voice. JC begging WWX to give up on the Wen remnants is equally JC trying to protect WWX as it is him attempting to re-establish the status quo in order to protect his own sect, even at the cost of giving up on the more morally good cause (it’s unclear to me how JC personally feels about the wen remnants but not necessarily important since he gives up on any alternative other than their demise to protect his sect and his standing in the world, as humiliating the spot is at that point).
The rumors about JC’s ruthlessness against demonic cultivators, even going so far to state that he drags them back to Lotus Pier to be tortured, both vindicates JC’s work and twists his image into a terrifying individual. And yet the ability for JC to have such a wide scale ability to go after demonic cultivators and kill in them in probably terrible ways is generally allowed, only disapproved through rumors, a tool of the cultivation world to control the narrative surrounding those that live within its system. In fact, the rumors most likely help JC in his work to remind people who to go to for ridding the world of demonic cultivators, even if the rumors are only partially true (I can’t imagine JC bringing the enemy into his home. Does he torture them? Probably. Does he do it at Lotus Pier? Definitely not).
This ruthless reputation is how we as the audience view JC at the very beginning of the story before the plot lets us into the past and a glimpse into JC in a more honest manner. The privileged are not exempt from the tools of cultural hegemony; they are just more likely to benefit from it

I was just thinking about how Erik's death, although very tragic, was important for many plot-related reasons. Not only to Wilhelm's character and Wilhelm and Simon's dynamic, but also because Erik was the Crown Prince everyone wanted.
If Erik would have been alive and became the King, I highly doubt that it would have brought any sort of conflict to the table. He was described as a "perfect" royal by almost everyone (despite S2 giving us insight about him struggling as well). The traditions would have went on as usual, the lies and secrets and toxic high-society solidarity finding a safe abode under Kristina and then Erik's succession. Even if Wille and Simon would have been together, it wouldn't have been much of a deal, Wilhelm was a spare after all, right? Erik was carved straight out of the image the Royal Court wanted him to be, but in reality it would just have been private therapy sessions and secret realizations about your surroundings but too "duty-bound" to act on them.
But Wilhelm is the Crown Prince everyone needs. Even if they don't realize it. Everyone in that damn school and even the Royals need a severe reality check. I agree, everyone is entitled to their worldview and it's not wrong to harbour a certain belief, but they need to realize how stifling they are. They made Wilhelm deny the video even though saying nothing about it was the right option! And then proceeded to offer the throne to the same person who filmed and uploaded that video. How infuriating is that? You are offering power to a person who can commit literal crimes as soon as its intoxication seizes his brain? Just because the current Crown Prince is non-conforming to your toxic systems and would potentially not bear future heirs? DO YOU GUYS EVEN HAVE MORALS?
I actually hope Wilhelm and Simon's relationship rock the foundations of Hillerska and the Royalty's beliefs. I hope Wilhelm's speech make them introspect what is right and what is not. Everyone needs some sort of discomfort in their worldview to grow, and I really hope Wilhelm and Simon's unabashed love makes everyone's centuries-old solidarity with stoic traditions twist and turn in its grave. I hope Wilhelm's growth as a person becomes so tangible that people like Nils and Stella are never afraid to be loudly themselves if they want to.
RIP Erik, you would have been an absolutely charming King. But trust me, your brother is here to start a revolution.

oh fack.... just had my biweekly reminder that jonathan has only ever wanted to protect will from harm, offer him a safe space, and encourage him to love what he loves without shame, and it's all of that which literally saves will's life and keeps him safe when he's in the upside down and later in the shed scene.... will singing "should i stay or should i go" his favorite song which jonathan first showed him... will hiding out in castle byers which jonathan built with/for him.... the song then helping to give will an opening to take back enough control for him to speak to his family in morse code... the shadow monster + vecna + lonnie all symbolizing forced conformity vs jonathan protecting will from that time and time again by being there for him, seeing him, and loving him as he is... jonathan carries so much guilt because he feels like he's never there when will needs it most, but it's his love for will that kept will alive.... he feels like it's his fault that will was kidnapped, that he should've been there for him that night and onward, but he was there for him! he was with him the whole time, helping and protecting him as he always has!!! when stranded alone in a world so dark and so cold and full of monsters, will used the tools his brother had given him to protect himself... i just... they're so... 🥺 THEY LOVE EACH OTHER SO MUUUUUCH 😭😭😭😭

When I dressed feminine, I got teased for my height, but it was never mean spirited. Since finding myself and embracing the masculine style I've always wanted, I get made fun of for being short. People say things to me or people like me with the intention of putting us down and making us feel bad about ourselves.
Stop acting like butch and masc women under 5'10 are weird and ugly! The average height for women is literally 5'4, and it's perfectly normal to be shorter than that. We look good af.

if (when) byler becomes canon, i feel like (on full rewatch) it'll end up feeling like the core of the stranger things plot with how much of the story can be seen as parallels or double meanings about them; molded to them

"What the fuck is this?" Harrowhark inquired, twisting her hands through the volume usually covered in skin.
"Yeah," Kiriona sighed, "Dad did his best, but-"
"He did a piss poor job, and he 100% fucking knows it." Harrow pulls, and the muscle tears and re-knits to seal over the gaping wound. The skin repeats after a second, and with a quick wipe Harrow clears the remaining blood with her sleeve.
"Wow. You mean?"
"I mean God is an asshole. He could have made this just as clean as I did, but apparently thought you'd gain something from having your torso open to the world."
"Maybe he thought that-"
"Griddle. Do not demean yourself to imply that The Necrolord Prime, God of the Nine Houses would want his daughter to be," Harrow paused.
"Tits first?" Gideon offered, suddenly finding her mouth worryingly full of spit and pus.
"Never suggest that again, Gideon Nav! I will not have you blaspheme our Resurrector!"
"I mean," Gideon continued, scooping the mess from under her tongue, "you've met him, right?"
"YES! I've met our Lord! He's," Harrow thought, trying to find the right phrase, "He's been through a lot."
"From the way Pyrrha tells it-"
"A lot, Nav. Imagine having that power. Holding all life, all of existence, in your hands. You can take one path, which will enable you to keep all you love alive and prosperous, but it dooms others to poverty and suffering. You can turn back, and it all crumbles and everyone dies. How do you choose what level of suffering is acceptable? How do you craft a society that thrives, based on a foundation of dying and death? How does necromancy solve the original problem, when all it can do is watch as life passes, and puppet the remains to fulfill that vacant purpose?"
"How does that dude think boob jokes are funny when they're about his daughter?"
"Fucking yeah. I don't think God is ok, Nav. I think whatever he's done, he's finding hard to justify to himself, and that leads to him sleeping with Sarpedon."
"I mean, if he wants someone his own age-"
"Pyrrha said she'd gladly investigate the next black hole, so he's getting the best he can get, really."
"Sucks that he's such a fucking asshole, and I still feel bad for his dumb ass."
"God's dumb ass is likely heading for some retribution. Or redemption. I don't think A.L. is going to be forgiving of his disarming nature when she awakes. He's wronged her the most, and I don't think jokes and out of date memes are going to calm her down."
