Big ups to @poemsingreenink who suggested a Ravinia meet cute while I was ranting at her about these two.
For the three people out there who give a shit about this pairing. Love you, Radskier Nation.

Hello!
I am the author of A Place Amongst the Wolves on AO3 which is a witcher fanfiction. The fic has some Geraskier and an OC named Crow.
The fic deals with a lot of growth and character development towards a neurodiverse, agender individual. It has Geralt, Jaskier, Vesemir, Ciri, Lambert, Coen, and a really tiny bit of Yennefer.
I'm looking for an additional beta reader to look things over in my writing if anyone feels up to it! I'd like to post the next chapter soon but I feel like something is missing.
Hope everyone is having a really cool day!
EDIT: If you are interested, please feel free to DM me or comment!

Hot Seat - oneshot.
My first thought upon starting my interview with Henry Cavill is that I must have got my lines crossed. Instead of the 39-year-old Jersey-born actor, the featureless wall on the screen in front of reveals a woman. She quickly introduces herself and apologises for his absence. "Our puppy got into a multipack of toilet rolls and is still wreaking havoc, but he'll be right with you." This, as it turns out, is his partner Ollie. The 33-year-old financial advisor (she politely asks me not to give her full name as apparently "the people who care already know it"), has been with the actor for the better part of a decade though it's seldom publicised. They're occasionally pictured together but Henry, known for being one of the more private Hollywood actors, has given away few details about the relationship.
This, however, doesn't stop her from graciously chatting with me while we await his arrival. Having a son with her name, I ask if it's short for something else. "No, just Ollie. My parents were fans of Laurel and Hardy," she says with a shrug. So she's not actually Olivia? "Nope, though I suppose it could have been worse, they could have called me Stan," she replies drily. I tell her my wife and I are expecting a girl in the summer. "Oh how lovely - don't give her a boy's name." Duly noted. I then ask after Kal, Henry's longtime canine companion, and she assures me he's still alive and kicking. So what prompted the puppy? "Anniversary gift," she says between sips of water, though she doesn't give a name or clarify who gifted who. Moving on, I ask if she has any tips for interviewing Henry. "Talk slowly," comes her immediate response. It's not difficult to see how he fell for her, big twinkly eyes and a throaty laugh betray a quick wit that's similar to his own. I venture to ask what it's like being in a relationship with him. "Agonising. I mean his looks alone, I'm at a loss," she deadpans before another laugh. And the fame? "Honestly, it's not something I really think about. Our day-to-day life is very normal."
As if on cue, Henry enters the room with a large and very fluffy puppy trying to wriggle free of his arms. His eyes flash briefly with concern but she gives him a reassuring smile, thanks me for my patience, and wishes me well. She then pats Henry on the chest, tells him to behave himself, and disappears with the puppy in tow. The screen now fills with his impressive frame though his demeanour is infinitely milder - if slightly harried. "My apologies John. Akita's - can't live with them, can't live without them." Much has been made of the peaks and troughs of his Hollywood career. At one point in the early aughts, he'd missed out on multiple high-profile roles (Henry Cavill: Hollywood's unluckiest actor?) Finally bagging Superman in 2013 with Zack Snyder's Man of Steel, he proved capable of big returns and even bigger popularity (Henry Cavill: Superman for a new generation).

This makes news of his recent departure from both Netflix's The Witcher (ostensibly because of creative differences), and DC's Superman franchise (due to the recent hiring of James Gunn as the studio's creative leader), all the more stupefying. But whether or not he really is Hollywood's 'unluckiest' actor, this isn't a term that reflects his life outside of the job, something which definitely marks him out from his contemporaries. In addition to a much-protected relationship (neither he nor his publicist confirms the status of it despite appearing to wear a wedding ring), he hails from a loving family and has a close-knit group of friends. He withdrew from a recent project (for reasons unrelated to the project itself), but is now in talks to appear in and produce an adaptation of Warhammer 40, 000 after Amazon recently secured the rights to the popular tabletop game.

It's actually not the first time I've met Henry. Our paths once crossed some years ago in a hotel lobby though this brief encounter was part of a jam-packed press tour. Today's meeting isn't scheduled for a considerably longer time, but there's more than enough to discuss. A colleague did however warn me that despite a more ingenuous nature, he can make for a difficult interviewee. For the first part of our interview, I would be inclined to agree. Though pleasant, his answers border on glib and this is perhaps unsurprising given the recent twists and turns of his career. Happily, he warms up as our fourty minutes go by and on this occasion, is more revealing about life away from the cameras…
J: First thing's first, are you watching the Six Nations (an annual international men's rugby union competition)?
H: Yeah, it's been dismal though (England won just two out of five matches)… doesn't bode well for the World Cup does it?
J: No it doesn't. Now I know you can't say much at the moment about more recent as well as upcoming projects, but I wanted to get your take on the development of IPs for modern audiences. More than ever it seems a rather precarious business…
H: I think that's a fair assessment. There's lots of competition and only a finite amount of resources, so balancing what audiences want against the financial gains is tricky.
J: So what's the solution?
H: Are you trying to get me into trouble (laughs)? It depends. I mean, you can experiment a bit more with big projects. But for niche ventures, I think it's probably better to lean on the source material and fanbases already there.
J: But do you think there's a general fatigue with certain genres at the moment?
H: Perhaps, but that's why it's all the more important to look at the project as a whole. More often than not, if a project sinks it's on the project, not the audience.
J: Surely events such as the pandemic have had a huge impact though?
H: Yeah, definitely. But I don't think it's that difficult to produce big and/or successful entertainment because if anything, the need has never been stronger. It may just require studios to slow down a bit and think harder about each stage of development.
J: Do you feel more at peace with your career these days?
H: I would say so. I mean it's not an industry you ever feel secure in because that's not really the nature of it. But I still feel the same rush and excitement. I think there's a tendency to forget that actors act for the same reason people enjoy consuming our work. We like to escape and have fun as well.
J: What has it taught you about yourself?
H: Well for one it's bettered my patience (laughs). There's also nothing like acting to improve your physique (laughs).
J: Do you still feel the same pressures to look and perform a certain way?
H: I mean to an extent it's just the expectation and I completely respect that - if you're spending millions bringing, say, Superman to life, whoever plays him must at the very least, look like him.
J: And what are your thoughts now that that franchise will be moving ahead without you?
H: Well, for one, I'm not as devastated as everyone seems to think (laughs). I had a blast making those films and I was looking forward to expanding on what was created but the workouts were something else. As were the press tours (laugh).
J: Would you say that's one of the biggest drawbacks now for actors?
H: I suppose. I mean who honestly wants to be hooked up to a lie detector and asked leading questions (laughs)? I find it a bit unfair at times. I'm not suggesting for one minute that actors aren't immensely lucky or privileged. Of course, what we do is comparatively easy. But the amount of exposure will always be a double-edged sword, no question.
J: You've said in the past you're not a huge fan of social media, do you think it's essential to what you do?
H: Perhaps not essential but it's undeniably very useful. And I have no issue in sharing parts of my life with those who find it interesting. But I also don’t see the harm in a bit of mystery, there's no need to upload and share absolutely everything.
J: More male stars are speaking up about the double standards in how they're treated by fans and the wider public. Are those sentiments you share?
H: Yes and no. I mean most of the time it's harmless and of course very flattering, but I think it's always best to put others at ease rather than risk making them uncomfortable. Of course, everyone has different ideas on how to do that (laughs) but as the old saying goes, do unto others…
J: I imagine it's different when that attention is also directed at those closest to you?
H: Oh absolutely. My friends and family didn't sign up for that but luckily they're good-natured about it.
J: It seems the lines are becoming more and more blurred though…
H: Yeah, and that's a shame. But it's also why you need to be prudent about how much of it you elicit and engage in.
J: But do you take issue with the amount of gossip? I imagine it's hard knowing it's out there when there's not much you can do about it.
H: I try and look for the silver linings, I mean if people are that invested it means you at least have some relevance still. Besides, I have a very happy, successful life outside of what I do and that makes all the difference.
J: I am curious to know how you've managed to make that work…
H: Well I don't want to give the impression that it's easy because it's not. Spending so much time away from the people you love is easily the worst thing about this job and it's something I'm always trying to improve.
J: You're also approaching 40, has that caused you to stop and take stock?
H: Thanks for the reminder (laughs). Nah I'm in a good place about it actually. Well, for now… (laughs).
J: Are there any roles, in particular, you still wish to play?
H: Not really. I think most people see me as an action star and I'm happy to remain so. It seems to be what I excel at though I've also enjoyed branching out into more comedic roles. More of those would be nice.
J: So you've no burning desires for the future? What about regrets?
H: I wouldn't say that (laughs). There's some stuff I've yet to get around to, as for regrets I've very few.
J: Such as?
H: Well, some of the films I've made for starters (laughs). Although that's not really fair as there's always something to take away from those experiences.
J: What about personally?
H: Um (pauses), nothing springs to mind. I wish I'd met my better half a lot sooner. But we've been together for over seven years so I can't complain.
J: If I remember rightly you'd just started seeing each other the last time we spoke.
H: That's right! God, where's the time gone?
J: How were the lockdowns for you both?
H: You know, as scary and traumatic as that time was, I can honestly say it reaffirmed to me that I'd made the right choices.
J: Did she feel similarly?
H: Perhaps not at first (laughs).
J: You certainly seem to share the same sense of humour. You know she introduced herself as the maid?
H: (Looks around) I hope you didn't fall for it… (laughs). And she's far more warped, trust me. She's just better at hiding it (laughs).
J: Care to give some examples?
H: Oh God, where do I start (laughs)? To be honest I'm not sure I can without making her look completely mad… though that wouldn't be an unfair assessment (laughs) (slight pause). She's a nightmare to text. Her idea of messaging me usually involves repeating a word until I manage to guess what on earth she's on about (laughs). I was in London a few days back and I messaged her asking how her morning had gone and she just kept responding with the word 'log' (laughs). So there I was, in a meeting with my business manager, trying to figure out at the back of my mind what she meant. Did she want to log a complaint (laughs)? Was I supposed to bring home a chocolate log? Did we need more firewood (laughs)? Turns out she'd just tripped over one while walking the dogs. See? Mad (grins).
J: My wife's like that but with GIFs.
H: Yeah, I get those less often but to maximum effect (laughs). Like I remember when I was getting fitted for the suits I wore in The Man from Uncle. I sent her a picture of my favourite and she immediately winged back a gif of Sterling Archer (from FX's 2009 animated sitcom Archer) (laughs).
J: Is she indifferent to what you do?
H: It's not that she's indifferent, she's just not taken in by it and thank God because it helps keep me sane.
J: So she likes to keep you on your toes?
H: Oh yeah, our life's never dull (laugh). The last time I was away filming, I'd stupidly warned her beforehand not to go anywhere near this rare Warhammer figurine that a friend sent me. So cue the photos of it in the dust container of the Dyson, at the edge of Kal's food bowl as his face was in it… she even sent me one of it in the washing machine just as it was filling up with water. That one warranted a phone call (laughs).
J: Oh dear. Did it survive?
H: Annoyingly it was absolutely fine… she's done worse (laughs).
J: Such as?
H: Er, well there was the time I was in New Zealand shooting the helicopter sequence for Mission Impossible: Fallout. I've talked about it before so I'm not going to rehash it but the conditions were extreme so everyone was pretty miserable. What made it worse was that a few weeks before, she'd broken her hand - the story of how she did that is actually funnier than the one I'm about to tell—
J: What happened?
H: … No, I can't say. She'd kill me (laughs). Anyway, being halfway across the world I couldn't get back to her and was in a bit of a state about it. So to cheer me up, one afternoon she sends me a video of her at the physio's office and in it (laughs)… she's wearing one of those old-fashioned prosthetic split hooks (laughs). What's amazing is how she somehow managed to rope the physio in, like as soon as he comes into the room she puts her phone down so as not to film him (laughs).
J: Where on earth did she get a split hook?
H: I know right? She told me Etsy but God knows… apparently the physio provided the arm it was attached to (laughs). So there I was, suspended above the Southern Alps, laughing the hardest I've ever laughed in my life.
J: Did you show it to Tom Cruise?
H: Oh yeah.
J: And what did he say?
H: She's a keeper (laughs). I'd play it for you but it got deleted when I changed phones a little while back.
J: Well, that's disappointing. What happened to the hook?
H: When I finally came home we had some champagne to celebrate and when I went to the drawer, I found she'd chucked it in there with the bottle openers (laughs).
J: Are there any more stories you can share?
H: Yeah, but I think I've said enough (laughs).
J: What makes the two of you such a good match do you think?
H: She's got a long fuse which certainly helps (laughs). We were just meant for each other (shrugs).
J: Did it feel that way quite early on? I know it did with my wife.
H: Oh yeah, almost instantly. When you know, you know.
A week after we meet I receive a gift at the office - a box of homemade cookies (which are heavenly) and a beautiful baby blanket. Accompanied is a note which first apologises for the gift's tardiness 'Henry ate the first batch,' thanks me for a good interview and then encourages some skepticism of the tales told as 'they're only mostly true.' Either way, I concede that he is indeed a lucky man.

“Thor” Speaks Out: We won’t take the hate that you give
First, the She-Hulk TV series’ creators admitted that they made the show with the objective of mocking fans, then Henry Cavill walked out on the Netflix Witcher because he had enough, and now, Chris Hemsworth who is famous for playing Thor in the MCU has had enough and is putting his foot (and hammer) down hard in how he is sick of being ridiculous on purpose.
THIS is what Disney, Netflix and a lot of media have to show making films and series that are not only devoid of love, but openly hate the source material and will create a media based on it just to spite it and its fans. Back when I was growing up, if someone on the set of a movie or show mocked the very piece they were creating and did not take it seriously, they got fired. If you don’t really want to be there and don’t even like what you’re working, then you shouldn’t be there. Now, it looks like insulting the media has become part of the creative process and is even encouraged. And that’s bad.
I admit that even fans laugh at the very fiction they love sometimes because we are not blind to its flaws or silly parts. It is even an art form to sit back and laugh at the silly side of our fandoms hence why we have spoof films like Dracula Dead and Loving it, the famous Naked Gun series, the Lethal Weapon TV series on Netflix, Shaun of the Dead, The Orville, the webcomic 8-Bit Theater and more.
Tumblr media
But even then, it was still obvious that behind these parody pieces was a very obvious love and endearment towards the source material. In other words, we are laughing with them together with no hard feelings and we all still love what we love. The creators did not make these films or series because they wanted to make the original material look bad. They did it because they wanted to make us laugh. And even then, they were put together with care and with intent of making something great that all audiences could enjoy.
Tumblr media
Now, pieces that are meant to be part of the official lore feel like hate letters to both the original fans and creators. And what do you really have to show for it when you create something with hate, resentment and with the intent to insult and punish the audience? Nothing. All you did was waste your time and made yourself look bad. Not to mention that when you make bad media on purpose, it becomes permanent on your record. Moreover, when you have a chance to work with something as big as She-Hulk, Star Wars, Superman, He-Man or other iconic figures in fiction, it would be wiser to give it your all and make it into something great like Noelle Stevenson did with She-Ra. Even if you aren’t a die-hard fan of the material, it is still honour to be picked to work on it, so it is better to treat it like an honour instead of a joke. And if you dislike it that much, it is better to kindly turn down the job.
The point is that Hollywood needs to not only remove hate from the equation, but to also put love back into the creative process. Too much of Marvel, Disney, DC and now, Netflix are plagued with meanness and hate, and the material is suffering for it. I also truly believe that deep down, these companies don’t want to be hateful or mean to anyone including themselves. They don’t really want to lose their loyal fans and don’t really want to make half-baked films or shows.
Tumblr media
I believe that things are going to change and while I admit that maybe it will get worse before it gets better, I have faith. After all, DC, Marvel and Disney have been around long before this new wave of media came along. And it had its bad times before yet braved them. The Dark Knight rose once, he can do it again and so will all the other heroes.
After all, love is stronger than hate. If anything, the fact that these actors are taking a stand and speaking out is a sign of positive change. They are finally saying “no” and if there is one thing I have learned as a parent, “no” has love behind it.
Thank you for reading and as always, stay safe.

Please Don’t Watch Season Three Of The Witcher
Look, I understand. The Netflix show, like many people, was the introduction to the Witcher universe, and no matter how bad the show gets there’s always a small part of you that will love the show. I do not regret watching the show. It changed my life and brought me so much joy in the community that I’ve become a part of. It has inspired me to get into the games, read the books, and write so much fan fiction about the characters. That being said, please don’t watch season 3 of the show.
The showrunners had made it clear again and again that they don’t care about the fans or the source material. At every turn, they look for ways to openly express their hatred for the books. Due to this Henry Cavill left the production and now those same showrunners and writers are trying to push lies and rumors about Cavill being a toxic “fanboy” and difficult to work with because he kept trying to make the show more book-accurate and Netflix decided to simply replace him like nothing. And yes, I know that this is Cavill’s last season but watching it (even hate watching) will only encourage those writers and showrunners to keep ruining the amazing world of The Witcher. Please, don’t watch the Netflix show. Read the books, read the fan fiction, play the games, Hell! Watch the Hexer instead but don’t watch the Netflix show.
As someone who loves The Witcher, I can not just sit back anymore and watch as the writers shit all over the wonderful fantasy and get away with it. Not when there are so many other people like Cavill that wanted to honor it. Not when the writers spend their days kb Twitter insulting and laughing at fans that only wanted the show to improve. For the love of Melitele, don’t watch season 3.

no you're absolutely right to question it and i was hoping someone would ask.
so this has to come with a disclaimer because i love the witcher a lot but as far as knowledge goes? i've seen the netflix show, the first season like 3 times and the second season only once, and i've read a good deal of fan fiction. that's it. so you'll have to work with the fact that that's all i've got for canon understanding on the witcher end of things. on the ofmd end of things? i'm. a lot more confident.
anyway! ed and stede are very similar characters when you get down to it. when you think about themes of abandonment and solitude and loneliness and longing and survival, they're extremely similar, so i'm not actually that opposed to flipping the roles. but, what matters to me is looking at where they start versus where they're going.
it's easy to look at geralt as a strong powerful monster hunter who's this famed hero that everyone loves and fears in equal measure: you'd want to slap ed on there.
but that's like. not really who he is. especially not before jaskier. geralt is a loner, he's done things differently his whole life, he's ridiculed and mocked and ostracized from civilization. he's not a powerful mythical figure, he's a weird wet horse guy who sleeps in the swamp. but we can call him to get the rats out of the inn sometimes.
and jaskier's background isn't really shown in the show but i know he went to a top school, he's brilliant and clever, he's a viscount. again, easy to paint stede in that role, right? i get it.
but he's bored and lonely and looking for inspiration and just so happens to come upon something different. something real. for once. so he drops everything and attaches himself to geralt's hip and drags himself through the mud and the muck, walking while geralt gets to ride, just to be a part of his story.
sound like someone we know?
and then there's the little things! the silly small character details that make them who they are.
stede's kind of a cunt! he's kind of selfish sometimes. he doesn't think highly enough of himself to believe people care about him, which gets them hurt in the process. hello?? geralt?
and ed's a poet! hes a theater kid, he sings, he writes lyrics. in canon. he wants to be able to slow down and appreciate life and live a little instead of being bound to duty and stede is just getting started.
and i hate this comparison bc they're both both in my opinion but. it's like stede:autism:geralt and ed:adhd:jaskier.
also! geralt is actually a wicked nice guy. like he cares so much about humanity and about other people and he wants them to be safe and happy and assumes that doesn't include him. he takes on missions no one would dare he doesn't hesitate to go back into the fire if it means saving someone else. very stedelike behavior if i do say so myself.
and jaskier is living on the edge he's got a name to spread an image to build a reputation to uphold. he's a scoundrel and a rapscallion and he's fucked and fucked over more people in this specific village than you could count.
and if you think about their experiences with violence! stede raised a sword against izzy. he doesn't resort to violence and he doesn't like it but he's not afraid of it anymore when it comes. he's ready and willing to look it in the eye to make things right and protect his crew. geralt.
and ed on the other hand hasn't killed anyone in decades. outsources the final blow. he deceives and tricks to get around it. jaskier.
stede adored plants and animals, he knows all about teas and moths and flowers. ed hates nature. geralt and jaskier.
geralt leaves jaskier on that mountain. jaskier gets depressed and writes a meltdown breakup song (burn butcher burn). i mean. in canon stede leaves ed on that dock and he gets depressed and writes a meltdown breakup song (life's a hard sad death).
i mean i could go on. but basically i think it's fine to do it the other way, i get it. i just think that's a really basic and uninspired reading of both shows. i think if you really dig into the core of the characters, it's much more interesting and pertinent to map stede as geralt and ed as jaskier.

Hi! I'm a big fan of your work! I really love lost and found (so far, I'm 75% done with the first book, so you still have ample time to hurt me with later plots lol) and I especially love your writing style. It feels so human and beautifully contrasts with Jack's most in human moments, which end up standing out and being some of my favorite moments.
I would love to be able to pick around in your brain real quick.
First: What do you read? Since most writers are inspired by what they read and get alot of the foundations of their writing style from it aswell, I was wondering what built those foundations for you. Childhood books? Maybe you read something that sparked your interest in writing?
Second: Could we maybe get a peek into your writing process at some point? How you plan or dont plan chapters? How far ahead do you plan? Do you set any particular goals?
Thank you for any answers you give me and also for inspiring me to take my own writing a little more seriously than I did before! You've really inspired me, and I'm sure I'm not the only one. :)
Hi! Thank you for the ask, and for your patience. This year so far has been a bit chaotic, and I wanted to set aside the time to answer properly. :)
First of all, I'm so glad you've been enjoying Lost and Found! This fic, as well as Rhack in general, have been a huge part of my life for the past few years, and I've been blown away by the reception of what started out as a very personal and niche project. 💛
Now, for the questions.
1. Reading and inspirations / style foundations
I've got an interesting relationship with reading, in that I've read a tremendous amount as a child/teenager, but some time during the past decade (I'm in my 30s), my brain has developed a bit of a block for reading fiction (I blame a combination of neurodivergencies). Every now and then, I'll get stuck in a book or a fic, but these days, I mostly experience stories in other forms than prose, with my favorite options being long-form tv (i.e. netflix series and such) and games (both story-oriented ones that tell you the story as you play or have your choices shape the story (like Stray, Tales, DBH), and open-world ones that combine plot quests and environmental storytelling (like Fallout and Witcher 3)).
Although I have a bit of internalized shame about not reading much prose these days ('you can't be a good writer if you don't read', etc.), I also maintain that Writing and Storytelling are two distinct skill sets. And while reading is obviously important to develop the Writing skill, Storytelling can be learned from so many places! If anything, I strongly believe that every writer can benefit from experiencing stories in every medium available to them, be it movie and tv, video and tabletop games, concept albums, etc.. Heck, the core plot of L&F grew out of a Borderlands-inspired D&D campaign, so...
That said, I do have favorite writers: Terry Pratchett, Neil Gaiman, Chuck Wendig, Andrzej Sapkowski, Becky Chambers. I may be bold enough to claim that all of their influences can be found in my work, be it in writing style or in the way I approach storytelling.
I also would like to credit a writer who went by Rhetor in a fandom that must not be named, whose fic Counting to Five Thousand upended my entire understanding of fanfic some 15 years ago, showing me that fic can be used to tell beautiful and powerful stories. Your mentioning that my work inspired you to take your own writing more seriously reminded me of them. I remember what it's like to be inspired by a writer in a fandom, and I'm honored to have provided some of that for you. 💛
2. Writing process / planning / goals
I normally think of myself as a pantser (or, to use the fancy term 'discovery writer'), but for long works, especially ones published as they're being written, there has to be at least some degree of planning involved. By the time I start writing, I usually know the general shape of the plot, i.e. what are the characters trying to do, how they're going to try and achieve it, whether they will succeed or fail, and some of the stuff that might happen along the way. I should point out, though, that I always let the characters drive the plot, as opposed to wielding my authority to decide 'this should happen next'. Which means that sometimes, when I get to a certain point in the story, things unfold differently from what I'd been expecting.
For the above reason, I've also found it counter-productive to have too-clear plans of future chapters. Almost every time I'd do that, I'd find myself trying to railroad the characters into doing/saying what I had envisaged, instead of what was organic at the time. Almost invariably, the resulting scenes were stilted and disjointed, and I'd have to scrap them and try again.
I think the best analogy for my approach to planning as a writer is planning for a long walk or a road trip. You can map out the route, aim to hit certain waypoints, get a general idea of how long it will take... but you don't know the details of every bit of the journey until you're actually traveling. The only way to really know the road is to travel it - and for me, the only way to know the story is to write it.
That's on the story/chapter scale, anyway. When it comes to individual scenes, it's a bit like scrying into a crystal ball. I get a glimpse of what the scene is going to look like, or a few lines of dialogue, and use those as a hook to pull myself into the scene. And then the same rule as before applies: the details become clear once I'm writing it down or talking through it with my story accomplices. (I always do need to get it out of my head, though. There are people on here who say they can daydream their entire fics: that's not me. I need to get the story out, otherwise I'll just keep circling the initial 'preview' of the scene and not get any further. )
There are, of course, rare and precious times when plotting and pantsing align just so, and I end up with something that feels organic while cleaving to a structure. My favorite example of that is the L&F chapter The Man Who Isn't Jack, in which AI Jack's existential journey follows his journey through different parts of Opportunity while also tentatively mapping to the five stages of grief as he grapples with human Jack's legacy and his own status as AI programmed to act human. Not gonna lie, I'm damn proud of that one.
...Now you see why I needed to set the time aside to answer. Once again, thank you for reading, and for asking, and feel free to ask more, because I could talk about this stuff forever. And last but not least: I wish you the very best of luck with your own writing! 💛

I was wondering if you would maybe have a book/book series recommendation for a fan of the Witcher series ( the books and Netflix(preferred season 3)) and most high/epic/dark fantasy? I'm looking for another mostly female centric series that's just as dark as the witcher but with at least a slightly happier ending. Something that's tragic but not with a tragic ending. I really liked the emphasis on family in the witcher. I also specifically liked the father daughter duo but it's not required. I completely understand if you don't have any recommendations or simply just don't feel like/want to. Feel free to pls 100% ignore this I just figured I would shoot my shot.
Hey! I'm gonna start by saying I have not read these books, but this is what I'd do for a patron. I'm using a database called NoveList Plus. I have to log in with my library card, link found on my local library's free database resources.
REFERENCE UNDER THE CUT 📚
First I searched for the last wish and clicked the "series read-alike" button. This returned 9 results of fantasy series with short summaries:
Tawny man Hobb, Robin Reason: Though the Witcher novels are fast-paced and the Tawny Man novels are more leisurely, both star dangerous assassins at work in fully realized fantasy worlds. Compelling writing and careful description bring these intricately plotted tales vividly to life.
Shadowdance novels Dalglish, David Reason: These world-building fantasy tales focus on the adventures of deadly assassins where magic, monsters, and bold exploits rule the day. Fast-paced and intricately plotted, they're set in realms where a conscience is as valuable as brute strength.
Vlad Taltos novels Brust, Steven Reason: These world-building tales of fantasy adventure feature amazing magic, the most unusual creatures, and assassins with hearts of gold. Though the Vlad Taltos novels are more offbeat and witty, both series are action-packed, fast-paced, and intricately plotted.
Wizard king trilogy Corrie, Chad Reason: These series have the themes "sword and sorcery" and "scum and villainy"; the genre "fantasy fiction"; and the subjects "wizards," "assassins," and "magic."
Elric Saga Reason: These series are world-building, and they have the theme "sword and sorcery"; the genres "fantasy fiction" and "epic fantasy"; and the subjects "wizards," "magic," and "imaginary kingdoms."
Book of Swords Saberhagen, Fred Reason: These series are action-packed and world-building, and they have the theme "sword and sorcery"; the genre "fantasy fiction"; and the subjects "wizards," "magic," and "magic swords."
Riyria revelations Sullivan, Michael J. Reason: These series are world-building, and they have the themes "sword and sorcery," "scum and villainy," and "rightful heir"; and the subjects "wizards," "assassins," and "mercenaries."
Reborn Empire Madson, Devin Reason: These series are compelling, gritty, and world-building, and they have the genres "fantasy fiction" and "epic fantasy"; and the subjects "assassins" and "imaginary empires."
Sword of the south Weber, David Reason: These series are world-building, and they have the themes "sword and sorcery" and "dark lord"; the genre "fantasy fiction"; and the subjects "wizards," "magic," and "imaginary kingdoms."
The cool thing about NoveList is how it can filter results. So let's look at the last wish's catalog entry to see how it's described:
Genre: fantasy fiction, short stories, translations, page to screen Themes: Sword and sorcery Storyline: action-packed, world-building Pace: fast-paced Writing style: compelling Subject headings: assassins, monsters, wizards, magic, duty, imaginary creatures, imaginary kingdoms, swordplay
Next, I went to advanced search. I can do a ton of things here, like look up books mentioned only on NPR, books only by a female author, only award-winning books. I typed in search terms "strong female protagonist" and "happy ending" then filtered for fantasy only in the sidebar. All of the results here are for teens, but hey, YA has come a long way in the last 20 yrs it's pretty decent these days! You'll notice they're pretty heavy on fairytales, but if you're looking for happier endings don't write off YA. We have 7 results:
Mechanica Cornwell, Betsy "A retelling of Cinderella about an indomitable inventor-mechanic who finds her prince but realizes she doesn't want a fairy tale happy ending after all"
Bitterblue Cashore, Kristin Eighteen-year-old Bitterblue, queen of Monsea, realizes her heavy responsibility and the futility of relying on advisors who surround her with lies as she tries to help her people to heal from the thirty-five-year spell cast by her father, a violent psychopath with mind-altering abilities.
Tales from the Hinterland Albert, Melissa Journey into the Hinterland, a brutal and beautiful world where a young woman spends a night with Death, brides are wed to a mysterious house in the trees, and an enchantress is killed twice—and still lives.
The queen will betray you Henning, Sarah After a thousand years of political stability, the realm of The Sand and Sky is up for grabs. Four kingdoms, four rulers vying for the ultimate prize, sovereignty over the entire continent: A ruthless old king spinning webs, whose schemes encompass generations. A widowed queen whose only credo is all kings must die. A runaway queen whose unexpected return upends everyone’s plans. And a prince-in-waiting determined to wait no more. Standing against them are a dispossessed princess and her stable boy love with a surprising claim of his own.
Circle of shadows Skye, Evelyn Eager to prove themselves in a peaceful kingdom, two magic apprentice warriors on the brink of graduating infiltrate a camp of mysterious soldiers who lead one of them on a transformative mission of deception.
Beast: a tale of love and revenge Jensen, Lisa Granted her wish to see her handsome but cruel master suffer, a servant girl is astonished when her employer is transformed into a gentle beast who patiently tends roses, writes poetry and regrets his past actions, until an innocent beauty arrives to break the spell.
Unchosen Blair, Katharyn A horrifying curse, swoon-worthy sea captains, and the power of one girl to choose her own fate.
"Strong female protagonist" "epic fantasy" and "hopeful" brought a couple new ones:
Half the world Abercrombie, Joe Seeking to avenge her dead father, fifteen-year-old girl soldier Thorn learns harsh lessons in the ways of war in the king's army while falling in love for the first time.
The wolf of Oren-yaro Villoso, K. S. A queen of a divided land must unite her people, even if they hate her, even if it means stopping a ruin that she helped create.
"Strong female character" and "fantasy" refined by "adult" and "time period: medieval" gave me several more results:
Winternight trilogy Arden, Katherine Spirited, fierce Vasya, daughter of a wealthy boyar, inherited her grandmothers' magical gifts, dangerous amongst religious intolerance, fierce politics, and rival magics. As her powers grow, so do their consequences, along with her need to right wrongs. These emotionally stirring and lush literary historical fantasies are riddled with fairy tales and folklore, bringing 14th century Russia vividly to life.
Armed in her fashion Heartfield, Kate A historical fantasy set in fourteenth-century Bruges about a widow who leads a raid on a Hellmouth to save her daughter.
Dark earth Stott, Rebecca After their father, a legendary blacksmith accused of infusing his swords with dark magic, suddenly dies, his daughters are faced with enslavement and must escape to the Ghost City where they find an underworld of rebel women living in secret.
Divine heretic Moyer, Jaime Lee The voices whispering to Jeanne d'Arc that she is fated to put a king upon his throne claim to be sainted angels. Jeanne knows they're lying.
The golden wolf Hartsuyker, Linnea After Freydis is kidnapped, Ragnvald and his sister Svanhild each grapple with a difficult decision as they peruse their destinies and honor their ancient gods in the conclusion to the trilogy, following The Sea Queen.
The lost queen Pike, Signe Reveals the untold story of Languoreth--a forgotten queen of sixth-century Scotland and twin sister of the man who inspired the legend of Merlin--as her family fights for the survival of their kingdom against the encroaching forces of Christianity and the Anglo-Saxons.
So! Hopefully that helps. If your library has this database or a similar one it's really fun to play around with. And if I didn't help any, go visit your local librarians, they don't bite! If you don't already have a card, get one, and you can probably read ebooks & audiobooks for free!

Fiona Leask was in a world not of her own, misplaced into a realm full of monsters and magic, something deemed impossible. After two years of searching for a way home, she had to accept that she would never see her loved ones again, and teaming up with Jaskier may not have been her most brilliant move since coming to The Continent, nor would the events that followed.

Writeblr (re)introduction
Hello! My name's Mara. I've been a part of writeblr on & off for the past few years, but I'd like to be more active with the community by dipping my toes back in, starting with a (hopefully) quick reintroduction post.
Edit: this has turned out a bit long, so I'll add a read more link after the "What I write".
About Me:
I'm 21 years old, bisexual, and my pronouns are she/her.
I'm from the Pacific NW of the US.
My ao3: Maralee.
Other than writing, I like playing video games, dabbling in landscape photography, crocheting, and spending a fair amount of time on tumblr.
I also have a site for my photography. If you'd like to browse or buy, check out my portfolio, or you can pop by my ko-fi.
I'm an Independent Consultant for Scentsy. My site is here, or you can click the link in my bio if you're interested. I'll occasionally post about current bundles/ specials, but it won't dominate my blog.
While I'm not currently in college, I wouldn't mind studying archaeology or anthropology; I love learning about ancient civilizations, and their cultures. It really gets you thinking about your life on earth, and what future historians might find.
Little bit of a disclaimer: while this blog started out as a writeblr, it's also a blog for various fandom-related posts, as well as writing resources and advice.
Open to tag and ask games!
What I Write:
My favorite genre, by far, is fantasy. Give me dragons, magic, elves, and epic battles—there's a good chance it'll be a favorite read. I also enjoy science fiction, romance, adventure, and mystery.
I tend to write what I read, so most of what I write is high fantasy or urban fantasy; though I do add elements from other genres, like romance, mystery, action, etc.
Common tropes I tend to lean toward: enemies to lovers, friends to lovers, mutual pining, coming of age. (Not necessarily in that order.)
I write both original fiction and fan fiction.
Current Works
Original:
The Guiding Star. Intergalactic mercenary Halley Gould is hired to protect the LSS, a lighthouse space station from pirates. Sci-fi short story. WIP page. Second Draft.
Descendant. Eirian, a mage in an anti-magic land, is framed for murder and must prove her innocence by rooting out a deep and far-reaching conspiracy. High fantasy short story. WIP page. First Draft.
Kosma. 19-year-old superpowered Evie Sharp discovers a company named Psibernetics is secretly developing weapons. Fantasy novel. WIP Page. First Draft.
Fanfiction:
A Healer's Lament. Alleilyn Willowwing fights against the forces of Molag Bal, making new friends and allies—and facing old foes. ESO fic. In est. 3rd draft, but you can read it on ao3. [wip page coming soon]
Forged in Fire. Artemis Oakenfire discovers she is the Last Dragonborn, but she has other foes to face—such as the assassins who killed her mother. Skyrim fic. Currently, in brainstorm << current details may be revised. [wip page coming soon].
[Untitled]. Imyili Ulvvas, an aspiring mage, plans to study at the College of Winterhold; unfortunately, with the return of dragons and a fool-hardy, adventure-hungry new friend, that will have to wait. Skyrim fic. Currently in brainstorming/ early concept stage. [wip page coming soon.]

MAN OF THE DAY #56 : HENRY CAVILL
I shouldn't have any specific reason to talk about Henry Cavill, famous British actor who - as you know if you've read my TOP 10 MOST HANDSOME MALES CELEBS - is for me the most handsome man in the world on a par with Chris Hemsworth.
So I've blogged about Henry Cavill before, and even written a personal fictional story about him. Here, I admire him, he seems arrogant and humble, gentle and dominating, seductive and a great fucker... In short, he is more complex than he looks. He has evolved physically, mentally and also in his acting and his choice of roles.
Tumblr media
The news has arrived: he will not be reprising his role as Clark Kent / Superman in the DCEU (DC Extended Universe, i.e. the DC Cinematic Universe). For those who have seen the movie Black Adam (2022) - which I reviewed on my blog - this news is surprising. I wouldn't say more. Let's just say stay until the end of the credits.
Either way, it seemed obvious that Henry Cavill was going to return, but nothing was official. It was then formalized but now that James Gunn (director of the Guardians of the Galaxy saga in the MCU) has become artistic director of the DCEU, plans have changed. In addition to Wonder Woman 3 which will not take place (to my great regret), Superman will no longer be played by Henry Cavill, but that does not mean that there will not be a Superman film, or even that he could one day appear if we create a DC multiverse.
Tumblr media
Well, I'll stop with the details of cinema and I advise you to read an article to which I put the link, and which explains the situation.
So here it is, if I regret this decision it's because Henry Cavill is my Superman. Yeah, that's the version I would have known growing up. There is also the interpretation of Superman in the Lois and Clark television series, but that is something else. We are talking about movies here.
And honestly, Henry Cavill was perfect. In addition to the fact that he is physically perfect (very tall, very muscular, harmonious face, dreamy smile, as handsome in Clark as in Kal-El), he had a perfect conquering look. I loved his couple with Lois Lane who is excellently played by Amy Adams.
It was already planned that Amy Adams would not resume her role as Lois Lane (under the pretext that she is too old when honestly she is sublime for her age), but this is really too bad for Superman, who is a fantasy as much as a model.
Tumblr media
Superman is a hero who is admired for his kindness and courage, but he is the one who defends the weak and fights against powerful villains. It seems naive said like that, but he is a model and also a living god whom we admire for his complexity. Especially since he has a turbulent private life.
As far as I'm concerned, it's always his physique that I imagined when I wrote about Superman several times.
Films and television series where Henry Cavill are always successful, and I understand better the frustration of fans of the series The Witcher (Netflix). I'm not one of them, but I understand their regret at no longer seeing Henry Cavill.
Tumblr media
For my part, I think that a character is more important than an actor, however the way a person plays a character influences our view of the character. So Henry Cavill was a real fan of the character he played, like those who had the privilege of playing Peter Parker / Spiderman.
Well, the fact that an actor no longer plays his role is not the most serious news in the world, but that does not mean that we cannot regret that an actor as handsome and charismatic as Henry Cavill can no longer play a character as admirable and brave as Superman.
Tumblr media
Do not hesitate to react to my article and tell me your position on its dismissal: are you satisfied with the artistic revival of the DCEU or would you have preferred Henry Cavill to remain Superman?
