Flufftober 3: Thick as Thieves

Harry liked to think that he wasn't a jealous person. He liked to believe that he was level headed, that he wasn't suspicious, and that he had reasonable boundaries when it came to his boyfriend.

Unfortunately, this was patently untrue.

His mind healer would tell him that his possessive streak and jealous nature were a result of trauma. Not having his needs met as a child, not having enough of anything, manifested in his desire to keep his things to himself.

And Draco was a person, not a thing. A person whom he loved and respected, a person who he knew had bodily autonomy, which made it all the harder for him to wrap his brain around his possessiveness.

Perhaps Harry could have gone right on believing that he wasn't a jealous person, if not for the fact that Ron and Draco had started hanging out constantly, always whispering to each other.

When Harry had owled to invite Draco to lunch this afternoon, he received a short apology note back and Draco let him know that he already had plans with Ron.

In a fit of pique, Harry flooed to the Ministry and marched himself to Hermione's office for lunch. Stomping inside of her office, he set out the containers of Chicken Tikka Masala, jasmine rice, na'an, samosas, and Dal soup that he'd started preparing last night and finished this morning.

Hermione raised an eyebrow at the food, "not that I'm complaining, but what's this all about?"

"Well," Harry said as he opened the containers, "I made it for lunch with Draco but your husband is eating lunch with him so someone had to eat it."

She laughed, "It's fairly normal for them to eat together, you know," she said. "They've been Auror partners for six years."

"I know," he groaned, biting into a samosa with great satisfaction, "you're right. But I just," he shrugged miserably. "They see each other all day and I only get to see him occasionally in the evenings and when he deigns to have lunch with me."

"I think it's more than occasionally," she said, holding back an eye roll that Harry could still hear in her voice.

He huffed, "Fine," he conceded. "But he still spends all day with him."

She hummed, "Well, I'm glad for the opportunity to have lunch with you. I always enjoy your cooking."

"Good," he grumbled, "Tell Draco how good it was so he realizes what he's missing."

Hermione reached across the desk and covered Harry's hand with her own, "He loves you."

"I love him too," Harry sighed.

Harry decided that he was going to talk to Draco that evening. It seemed only fair to have a conversation with him about what was bothering him.

So when the invitation for dinner arrived, Harry wrote back right away, agreeing.

After knocking, he waited nervously on the doorstep, tapping his fingers against his thigh. And when the door opened he almost forgot what he'd wanted to say. Draco was standing illuminated by the light of his entryway, feet bare, wearing Harry's favorite cardigan.

"Hi," he said.

"Hi yourself," Draco replied, smiling brightly at him, "come in," he added, stealing a quick kiss as Harry walked past.

Harry wandered into the living room, "Listen, before we eat, could we talk?" he asked.

"Sure," he said amiably. "I had something I wanted to ask, too," he added. "Can I go first?"

And Harry wanted to say no, wanted to just blurt and tell him that it was burning him up that he was spending so much of their free time with Ron, but he took a deep breath and nodded. "Yeah," he said. "Of course."

Draco grinned at him, then sat down on the footstool in front of Harry, "Harry," he said.

"Yeah?" he asked, heart beating just a little bit harder in his chest.

"We've been together for almost two years now-"

"Are you breaking up with me?" he asked, heart roaring in his ears, breath coming a little too short. "I can change-"

"Harry," Draco said, laying a hand on Harry's, "of course not. Just," he shook his head, "let me finish."

He nodded and waited, fidgeting a bit.

"We've been together for almost two years now, and I have been in love with you for far longer. You are the kindest, most genuine person I know. You make my life better, you make me better and I love you. I want to spend the rest of my life with you," he continued, pulling a small box out of his pocket and dropping to his knees on the floor. "Would you marry me?" he asked, opening the box and showing Harry a gold ring with little diamonds all around.

"What?" he whispered, eyes filling with tears, "What? I thought you were getting sick of me. I thought you were tired of spending time with me-"

"No," Draco said, brow furrowing. "Why-"

Harry wiped at his eyes, "You've been spending so much time with Ron lately-"

"Because he was helping me plan this," he said.

"Plan what?"

Draco laughed, "Say yes and I'll show you."

"Yes," he said, "Circe, Draco, of course. Yes."

And as if he'd said a spell, people started pouring into the room, all of their friends and family ready to congratulate them.

Harry kissed him, accepting the ring and sniffling as he tried to pull himself together.

"I'm sorry," Draco murmured through all of the cheering a ruckus. "I love you. I didn't mean-"

"It doesn't matter," he said, kissing Draco again. "I love you, I'm sorry I was jealous."

"I won't keep you in the dark anymore," he said. "I won't keep secrets."

And Harry's eyes welled up with tears once more. They spilled down his cheeks and he nodded, grateful for Draco's love and understanding.

"We've people to greet," Draco commented, nodding toward the room.

"Yes," he agreed. "Stay with me?"

"Always," Draco murmured, sliding his fingers through Harry's as they started around the room. "Always."

Currently reading: Percy Jackson and The Olympians Series by Rick Riordan. Uncle Rick always has me coming back to these books. Only books I have ever found I can focus on long enough to read and the font is actually inoffensive to dyslexia.

Confession: I like Nurse Chapel as a character but I'm not overly fond of her characterization in Strange New Worlds.

The OG Chapel was seen as someone who just pined after Spock, but she was mature, calm, and thoughtful. There was a softness to her that was so different from all the other characters at the time.

SNW Chapel feels like she's written to be every dynamic female star trek character all at once. There's no distinctiveness to her at this point.

A show with Una, Erica, Uhura, and Na'an all having unique characteristics and Christine is over there being "I'm every woman."

Tragic.

oh god anon you can't ask me something like that how am i supposed to choose

PASTA and NOODLES for reasons of how often i consume them. dressed up fancy ramen packs are my mainstay lunch. they carry this family.

ROOT VEGETABLES, namely POTATOES for reasons of versatility. those lil bitches love a maillard reaction, get crispycrunchy idiot.

bread is so broad a category so i'll just list my favorites. BEAUTIFUL FLUFFY FRENCH BREAD. NA'AN BREAD. BRIOCHE. CHALLAH. that is all. tragically i don't get to eat delicious lovely breads often, otherwise they'd be higher on this list.

RICE is a dutiful workhorse, supporting and assisting such items as chicken and stirfry veggies. we love a rice, but she is more function than form.

1. Mnyah: A "Goddess", for lack of a better term. Mnyah is big, tall, and very chill. She rarely speaks, but would go anywhere and do (just about) anything with you if it meant being in your wonderful company. If you decide to stay indoors and have brunch or take a walk somewhere private and secluded, Mnyah can tell you stories from her past adventures, and you can tell her your own stories. However, seeing this woman go white water rafting in a ball gown is also one hell of a sight, and she WILL be good at paddling.

2. Meldria: A honorable mercenary who fights more for the good for the world than for the money. Strong, tough, and loves to have fun. Meldria tries to act chivalrous, but if she thinks you're hot, it just turns into fancy-worded flirting. She loves to eat, drink, and will accept near any challenge offered to her. Staying indoors isn't much her thing unless its with a big group of friends.

3. Novox: The most powerful Dark Mage in Adrinirda. He is a member of the Council of Magic, acting as the head for Dark Magic. He is smart, calculated, and cares deeply for animals, his heritage as a Dark Mage, and his loved ones (including you!). Novox prefers staying inside, either reading or practicing magic, but he also loves to dance. With a little coaxing, you could get him to go out somewhere.

4. Na'an: A thief with no name, Na'an named herself after her favorite bread. She's excitable, laughs loud, loves going on adventures big and small, and is down for pretty much anything as long as its fun. She does suffer from anxiety, so she might do a 180 here and there and get cold feet, but if you're really into into the activity you two are doing, she'll feed off your energy and keep going.

5. Current: Jordancia's resident technophile, Current loves two things: technology and music. During the day he tinkers in his shop, and at night he's the head DJ at the Arcade Cabinet Club in Jordancia's Arcade Disctrict. If you're a night owl, Current will gladly put a robot in his place at the turntable to go hit the town with you. Hit the dancefloor, hit up bars, hit up the 24/7 shops and museums, or just hit the road on his hover-scooter and watch the city lights blaze by. Whatever you choose to do, the two of you will have painted the town red by dawn.

6. Loelle: Ranked the #1 pastry baker in Jordancia and a skilled Nature Mage, Loelle mixes her two passions to breathe new life into her cooking. Literally. Stay in and make some yummy cupcakes as the cookies dance along the countertop, or spend some time out in the gardens, smelling the flowers, picking fruits, or toiling in the vegetable garden. The compost bin might try to follow you guys though. Loelle likes to take it slow, and prefers to spend time with few friends rather than large groups.

7. Valorn: A Summer Fairy cast out of the Eternal Forest, Valorn's magical capabilities encompass all of the elements, and she has the skills to prove it. She may be struggling with her depression and have self-doubts because of it, but a nice day spent window shopping, visiting the park, or just wandering the streets in the warm sunlight is good enough for her. If its raining or you just don't want to go out, Valorn has a nice sunroom just for those days, where you two can sit on plush beanbag chairs and just hang out until the sun sets and you have to play games by the light of the fairy lights lining the room.

8. The Reckon King: A Dark Mage with great and terrible potential, The Reckon King suffers from a lot of insecuries and depression. He won't tell you the details though, unless you two are very, very close, and even then you'd have to wrestle it out of him. He loves the night, and you two can burn moonlight taking walks by the river, stargazing, going to the movies, playing games at the boardwalk, or attending a concert. If you ask nicely, he'll even show you a few of his favorite dark magic parlor tricks.
